tbh last post just reminds me how i find it an INSANE argument when people act like dean in dabb era is uniquely awful. he literally acts the same….

i think its just that people suddenly start recognising abusive behavior when its directed at a kid?? vs before when it was p much exclusively directed at sam…….. like for seasons dean consistently berates sam for mistakes theyve both made or things that arent sams fault, gaslights him to sooo many varying degrees, and generally wrecks his ability to be like. independent from dean. dean doesnt suddenly evolve into a hashtag Angry Man in s13. and his behavior certainly isnt out of character. hes been one for a fucking age

montresor is such a fascinating villain to me I need to study him in a lab. he is deep seated fear, coated in self loathing and insecurity, coated in rage and bravado, and he's a monster and he doesn't know how to be anything else. he was told he was worthless and despicable his whole life and he decided if he would never be good enough he may as well be the devil they told him he was. he needs to pick fights he needs to be hated he hates being ignored he needs to control people but hates being genuinely loved he can't show weakness he is deeply insecure in his masculinity he took his religious trauma and started dressing as a preacher to fleece people at cards and seduce random women he killed a man on instinct to protect a dog he often laughs uncontrollably and I am blowing him up 1 million billion times with my mind

dean absolutely has a lil planner. he will tell u its not color coded & he just uses whatever color he has but he absolutely has it color coded

he joined debate club bc cherry told him to bc “she can’t handle him 24/7 with football season done” and also “he argues like he will fucking die if he doesn’t win”

and she is so right because bro goes blue in the face about things he believes in. actually was one of the “her sister was a WITCH. THE WICKED WITCH OF THE EAST BRO” dudes

he wears hoodies & jeans most of the time but as college goes on he develops more of a style (varsity jackets & stanford t-shirts, his debate club sweater vest, season three he’s gonna go thru a leather jacket phase just a heads up!)

speaking of developing as the seasons go, he loosens up too, becoming more like the dean we all know n love :’)

he’s just a little extra shy and uncertain right now because being a functioning member of a new society =/= traveling to new places and immersing into the communities there for hunting trips. bro has literally never let himself have friends this long or even open up to it

his favorite color is forest green & its shade variations. he found a muted green in the library once and did ☝️ permanently borrow it

he’s actually a decent cook! had to teach hismelf so he didn’t get himself or sammy or both killed growing up

when he moves out and onto off campus living, everyones at his place because his stuff is 100 times better than cafeteria food. he has a tip jar on his counter so people can fund his ungodly grocery bills bc of them rotating out of his house

i just feel like looking at precanon dynamics going ‘oh the main reason sam and john clash is because they’re sooooo similar’ is ignoring actual canon and implication in favour of taking a specific comment about a specific arc of sam’s that dean makes and running with it.

for one it’s missing all the context which is. this isn’t two random people who clash for unknown reasons, this is a father and the son he’s actively abusing and neglecting. sam has a right to be angry!! it’d be more concerning if he Wasnt angry (a la dean)!!

also just what we do see in canon is like. totally the opposite. john’s always hated the fact that sam’s different from him… that sam wants different things, doesn’t want to hunt, a different life…. DEAN’S the one who tries to be identical to his father. whether he succeeds is another story (i don’t think he’s innately very like john but i do think he leans into the same coping mechanisms and behavioural patterns, wholly for the worse!) but john seems to mostly believe him. even going by the journal which like. i know people don’t take as canon but i like it <3. john thinks dean’s practically a mini him (ofc he Isn’t but) and that sam reminds him of mary. 🤷‍♂️ ofc you can still see sam and john as being similar in some ways. i can certainly see it and i’m sure i’ve written it. kids r often like their parents. but 1 that’s not, like, the Secret Reason they’ve always fought so badly and 2 sam is like john sometimes but he’s also like mary who’s like dean who’s also still like john. and sam and dean are often like each other. i already went on about this in my last post so i’m repeating myself but. reject the false binary inside your head where a sibling like. picks a parent and grows up to identically be them.
