i was burned last season by the randomly changing outfits but lets go round 2 on analyzing some of the stuff we've got
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first, we've got this still which we can firmly place as maybe the/one of the opening scenes for the season. it takes place right as brooklynn flies off with soyona. their positions are slightly switched around which is a little weird, but i'm currently taking that as indicating a conversation of some sort will happen on the dock.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'd place this + the clip with barry as firmly in the first 1-2 episodes. this is them traveling to catch up to brooklynn and soyona in malta. and i say malta because at this point they'd have no intention of going to italy because, well, no one knows biosyn is evil yet. except they end up in italy first and THEN i think they're going to malta
Tumblr media
but because speckles hatches when they're staying with gia and nonna, i'm currently theorizing that the most logical place for this shot would be them trying to hide the egg from barry. since they don't trust him yet, of course they're not gonna let on that they have an EGG.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so they stick it out with gia and nonna for a bit in italy. ben is in his loverboy era while they regroup and try to figure out the next move.
Tumblr media
but speckles hatches while they're here!! oh my god they're grandparents now. i can read yaz gasp as either "oh my god the baby was born" or "where is the baby?!" depending on how they cut it in context.
Tumblr media
but based on darius having an egg at malta, i'm wondering if they purposely put this out of order. maybe speckles hatches much later than we're being lead to believe. or maybe that's a different egg entirely. the lighting and motion blur makes it hard to tell the colors of it.
Tumblr media
unlike them, brooklynn has a strong reason to be in italy first. i think it also makes the most sense for her to start at biosyn trying to unravel the mystery then go... oh... holy shit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'd bet that brooklynn is definitely going to be the first of the MCs to see the market. probably a little after meeting with dodgson for the first time. this is soyona showing her what kind of POWER this guy has.
Tumblr media
based on what we know of the malta market being a kind of tunnel system type build, i'd firmly place the scenes we see in the tunnels there. while biosyn also has tunnels, they have a completely different visually more clean design.
and the MAIN REASON i'm building my timeline like this is well... i'd guess that the events of the malta market will take up the bulk of the season finale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it just makes no sense for me for there to be TWO different chaotic events at this market in the span of, what, 2 weeks? without it making ANY big waves.
Tumblr media
and as i mentioned before, we see two dinosaurs we've seen before. now, we also see LEONARD aka kayla's pet little guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and we also have a dimorphodon fly off with what i'm pretty sure is scooter guy's scooter
Tumblr media
and in that same vein as "there's no way an event like this could be covered up", i have absolutely no idea what to do with this shot. it makes no sense for it to be after dominon but it also makes absolutely no sense for it to happen before. there's no way an untrained feral pyro raptor could get lose in the city and NOBODY would talk about it. it has to happen after dominion... right?? but it logically can't if malta is the season finale. which means either malta isn't a finale or we're screwing up my sense of disbelief massively
Tumblr media
if i had to pick out a final episode, i'd so firmly pick this one. this also supports my theory of ending in malta because yeah that background is the city.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm grouping these shots together because they all give the same vibe as possibly being connected, but i'm not firm in saying they ARE connected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there also seems to be two different excursions to the snow biome hosting the pyro. we see one with a red car (gia's) featuring darius and kenji alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but we ALSO see kenji and sammy alone with a white van. my guess is the darius/kenji probably happens first then kenji goes to check it out with sammy but who even knows. the pyroraptor frustrates me the more i try to analyze her appearances.
but i will note that i'm pretty sure we only see darius and yaz at the market during the malta sequence suggesting a possible split up?

Title: You can take them out of the mafia (but that doesn't make them civilians)
Author: Raven_Silversea
Rating: T
Pairing: Hibari Kyoya/Kurokawa Hana/Sasagawa Ryohei
Prompt: Rain Day: Retired Assassins AU / Opposites Attract
Tags/Warnings: Post-Canon, Retired Assassins AU, Established Relationship, Attempted Break-In, Fights, Attempt at Humor
Summary: In their defense, the guy chose the wrong house to break into.
Ao3
There's a moment where they're all looking at each other. Ryohei holding a plate that he's in the middle of drying, Kyoya elbow-deep in the kitchen sink washing dishes, and the man dressed in black who just broke the window in the breakfast nook and is currently perched on the windowsill.
“Wao,” Kyoya says. A bloodthirsty smile slowly spreads across his face as he turns off the water and reaches a hand towards Ryohei.
Ryohei hands Kyoya the towel and sets the plate on the counter. It's one of the nice plates with a yellow flower design along the edges, and Hana would be very disappointed with them if they broke yet another piece of the set. He cracks his knuckles, grinning broadly at the man still frozen in the window. “You EXTREMELY chose the wrong house,” Ryohei says.
In the intruder’s defense, he very quickly attempts to back out of the window and run. Unfortunately for him, Ryohei is much faster and grabs him by the shirt collar, yanking him out of the window and sending him skidding across the floor.
Before the man can stand, Kyoya slams a tonfa into his face. There’s a crack! and bright red blood spurts from the man’s nose. He reaches up to staunch the blood with one hand, the other reaching for the countertop as he begins to stand.
This time it’s Ryohei sending a left hook directly to the man’s ribcage, and he falls flat on his face with an “Oof!”
The pattern continues. Intruder attempts to stand and escape, maybe retaliate against the unending attacks. Kyoya and Ryohei smack him back down with increasingly strong attacks. At some point, the yellow flowered plate is thrown at Kyoya, who dodges, and the fight stops long enough for them all to watch as the plate shatters against the wall.
The man attempts to inch his way across the floor to the broken window while Ryohei and Kyoya examine the plate shards. Then Kyoya turns. “For your crimes,” he says slowly, “you will be bitten to death.”
Before the man can do more than whimper, Kyoya slams a tonfa down on his head. The man slumps.
Kyoya and Ryohei stare down at the broken, bleeding man unconscious on their kitchen tile. The wind blows in through the broken window, lilac curtains billowing out. Throwing knives stick out from the lemon wallpaper, a blood trail spans across much of the floor, and the yellow flowered plate is only one of the piles of glass shards needing to be swept up. Not even the cabinets escaped the fight with one door hanging on by a single screw and squeaking in the wind.
A key turns in the lock, and the front door opens. There’s a moment when they’re all looking at each other. Ryohei holding a frying pan ready to swing, Kyoya with his tonfa held loosely in his hand, and Hana, who had just come home from a business trip to Italy, still carrying her suitcase.
“You. Are. RETIRED!” Hana yells, slamming the door shut behind her. “Why can I not leave the two of you home by yourselves for a week?!”
The intruder groans, and Ryohei smacks him back into silence with the frying pan. Hana pinches her nose with a heavy sigh. “Take him out the back and drop him in front of the police station,” she says. “I’ll make sure there’s a warrant for him in their system.”
Kyoya hums appreciably and picks the man up by his shoulders while Ryohei gives Hana a thumbs up. “Right on! You can tells us all about your EXTREME trip when we get back! Welcome home!” He picks up the man’s legs and together they shuffle towards the back door.
Hana waves a hand dismissively as she pulls her laptop out and settles down on the couch. “Yeah yeah, good to be back. Hurry home, menaces, I want some cuddle time before bed.” The shuffling sounds increase as her partners pick up their pace. She shakes her head with a soft smile, preparing the warrant as promised.
The back door slams shut, and Hana props her feet up on the coffee table. Ah, it’s good to be home, even if she has to deal with her menaces’ mess. Again.

On The Realm and National Identity [Exalted 3e]
I think 3e’s version of the Blessed Isle is much more playable than in past editions, but one thing that’s bugged me since I read it is "The Realm" is lack of strong regional identities and ethnic groups.   The Blessed Isle is enormous, and its united cultural identity has existed for less than 700 years, as the Scarlet Empress’s conquest wasn't instant. With the Realm Civil War being a central focus in 3e—one of the few truly world-spanning events—it’s frustrating that the focus is largely on the Great Houses themselves, rather than also focusing on the regional cultures they rule.   It seems unrealistic that the Realm would have such a strong national identity or be so culturally homogenous. I can see many people identifying as Imperial subjects first, but it’s strange that the book doesn’t delve into the existence of regional breakaway movements or distinct local identities.   There’s a saying that the first empire the Third Reich conquered was itself. While I’m not making a moral comparison between regimes, I think this serves as a practical analogy. Empires are not monoliths and often fracture along the lines of cultural identity, not just because of noble infighting. Even in relatively small regions of imperial control, like Great Britain, there's very distinct regional identities(e.g., Scottish or Welsh cultures). Similarly, we see this in Catalonia or the divide between Southern and Northern Italy.
The Blessed Isle’s depiction feels at odds with history. Despite the Empress enduring multiple civil wars (e.g., the Islesi coup, the Seven Tigers Revolt, and others), the Realm is portrayed as basically culturally hegemonic. This doesn’t feel grounded, particularly given the size of the Isle, and the speed that cultures "travel."   I wonder if this bothers anyone else or if anyone has explored this at their own table? The idea of regions remaining loyal to fallen houses, retaining insular traditions, having conflict between regional cultures, and patronizing local gods in secret or maintaining proto-Immaculate beliefs that diverge from official doctrine is something I'd love see more words spent on, and I think would make the Civil War infinitely deeper. I’m also curious about "stressors” in different prefectures and how the peasantry perceives their identity.

The career of Bertha, daughter of Lothar II, reveals that women were not simply passive bystanders in the politics of the period. As the transmitter of legitimacy through blood, she was in fact a key player. [...] She was considered a major force in Italian politics, and her political aspirations may have extended much further than the Tuscan region or even the kingdom of Italy.
— Patricia Skinner, "Women in Medieval Italian Society, 500-1200" / Daniel G. König, "Bertha of Tuscany's Correspondence with al-Muktafī bi-llāh in the Version of Ibn al-Zubayr."
Bertha was an ambitious and politically successful female member of the Carolingian elite. The daughter of Lothair II of Lotharingia, she was born around 860 or 865. Married before 880 to count Theobald of Lorraine, she shared her husband’s exile in Arles, where he had sought refuge with Boso, the King of Provence (r. 879–887) after the latter’s brother Hugo had attempted to conquer Lorraine. She bore him four children who were to attain influential positions in a region spanning southern France and northern Italy.
When Theobald died around 887, Bertha married the margrave Adalbert II of Tuscany (r. 885–915). Adalbert’s family had much property in Provence, carried the epithet dives and led a lavish court life in Lucca. […] Theo Kölzer described Adalbert’s policy as
“characterised by a skilful manoeuvring between the individual candidates for the royal and imperial crowns, which he played off against each other for the sake of his own advantage, always taking care that the autonomy of his margraviate and his quasi-royal position did not suffer any damage in the turmoil of the time.”
Adalbert’s policy involved reacting to the ambitions of margrave Guido II of Spoleto, his son Lambert, margrave Berengar of Ivrea, duke Arnulf of Bavaria, and King Louis of Provence, all of whom aspired to the crown of Italy between the end of the ninth and the beginning of the tenth century. Adalbert II and Bertha first sided with Guido II and his son Lambert against Berengar, thus ensuring that Guido was crowned King of Italy in 889 and emperor in 891, his son Lambert becoming royal and imperial co-regent in 891 and 892 respectively. The couple’s support for Guido and Lambert expressed itself in the fact that their two sons were christened Guido and Lambert between 891 and 894. Adalbert tried to impede Arnulf of Bavaria from interfering in Italian affairs in 894, but then turned against Lambert by cooperating with Berengar of Ivrea between 896 and 898. If we believe Liutprand of Cremona, it was around 898 that Adalbert tried to become king of Italy himself.
Around 900, Adalbert and Bertha supported the aspirations of King Louis of Provence to become emperor, possibly in the hope that Bertha’s son Hugo would thus be able to become King of Provence instead. When Hugo’s promotion failed to materialise, the couple turned against Louis, first by not impeding, then by actively supporting Berengar in his conflict with Louis. In this period, the couple already exerted enormous influence in Italy: the anti-pope Sergius III (sed. 898 and 904–911) had sought refuge with Adalbert and, according to Liutprand of Cremona, was “made pope by Adalbert” (papa per Adalbertum constituitur) in 904. In this year, the couple felt strong and independent enough to begin dating their documents according to their own regnal years. When Louis was eventually captured and blinded by Berengar in 905, he entrusted Bertha’s son Hugo—count of Vienne and Arles, duke and margrave of Provence—with the government of Provence.
[During this time, Bertha has been identified the royal woman who most likely sent a letter with an embassy in c.906 to the Caliph of Baghdad, al-Muktafi, where she described herself rather grandiosely as "queen of all the Franks". First brought to light by Muhammad Ḥamīdullāh , it has been rigorously studied and re-examined by historians. According to Daniel G. König: '...it becomes impossible to presume with Ḥamīdullāh that Bertha was a woman without political ambition who offered her hand in marriage to the caliph to escape her allegedly weak and unsuccessful husband [...] Rather, it becomes conceivable that Bertha could have developed a foreign policy strategy that looked beyond Italy and Byzantium and as far as Aġlabid North Africa. When she eventually understood that the Aġlabids were nominally subjected to the ʿAbbāsid caliphate, she looked eastwards to ʿAbbāsid Iraq. If there was a marriage proposal at all, she may have wanted to offer one of her daughters to the caliph, as François Bougard suggested [...] Bertha’s son Hugo (r. 903–947) certainly pursued a Mediterranean strategy as soon as he became king of Italy in 926. His intensive relations with Byzantium are recorded by the emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus, his complex relations with the “raider colony” of Fraxinetum by Liutprand of Cremona. According to Ibn Ḥayyān (d. 468/1076), he approached the caliph ʿAbd al-Raḥmān III of Córdoba in 328/939–940 with the demand of a “security guarantee for merchants of his territory that travel back and forth between there and al- Andalus.” It does not seem far-fetched to assume that Hugo’s mother had already begun to think in the same lines of securing the Tyrrhenian Sea for Tuscany and of expanding the region’s security and economic purview.']
In 906, the year in which Bertha is said to have sent her letter to the ʿAbbāsid caliph, Louis of Provence had retired from the competition for the imperial throne, whereas Adalbert and his wife were confronted with the imperial ambitions of Berengar of Ivrea, which they opposed by blocking the Apennine pass leading him to Rome. Bertha seems to have been strongly involved in containing Berengar. That she wielded power at the side of her husband is evident from her correspondence with the archbishop of Ravenna. Germana. Gandino proposed that, in the contest with Berengar, Bertha was able and willing to present herself as a descendant of Charlemagne, as heiress of the Carolingian dynasty in Italy, and thus as a legitimate alternative candidate to the imperial throne. While this may seem unconceivable at first sight, we should consider that her husband Adalbert II did not have an equally prestigious pedigree and, by 906, had receded into the background politcally. Bertha’s quest for power also seems to have prompted contemporaries such as Liutprand of Cremona to harshly polemicize against her in particular and against women striving for power in general. Gandino believes that Berta may have even called herself “basilissa” (Βασίλισσα) in her letter to al-Muktafī bi-llāh, thus seeking imperial recognition from a foreign leader in a time, in which she—not her husband—formulated a claim to the imperial throne.
Bertha’s activities in the period after writing the letter demonstrate that she occupied an important political position in a region spanning the Provence in the west, Ivrea in the north, and Tuscany in the south. Still confronted with the imperial ambitions of Berengar when her husband died in 915, she installed her son Guido as margrave of Tuscany with herself acting as regent and married her daughter to the margrave Adalbert of Ivrea after his wife’s death. When Berengar chased Adalbert from Ivrea and arrested Bertha and Guido in Mantua between 919 and 920, she still managed to prepare the ground for her son Hugo. He was to become King of Italy in 926, shortly after Berengar’s assassination in 924 and Bertha’s death in 925.

I thought for a while about making this post, because I do think praising male footballers for doing the bare minimum - supporting women and wnts in this world cup - is definitely not necessary today. But the reason I'm writing this is because, being a diaspora kid, I can compare two different situations (morocco, my country, and italy, my other country) and let me tell you, I'm quite surprised by the difference. Or maybe I'm not.
I guess if you follow the morocco nt you've seen a lot of moroccan players celebrating the wnt historical achievement today. In the span of 10 minutes - from hakim to romain to amine to jawad etc etc - they all started posting about it. To be fair, the support has been there since the start of the tournament. I love it but I'm not praising them for it: I do however think it's necessary to see. Because living in Italy I'm also familiar with the italian football scene, and I can guarantee the support for the italian wnt was like, 0. Some very timid sign of support by a few players from the old guard (less than a few, to be honest). I don't think I've seen anyone from the current nt posting about it. [I'd be happy to correct myself if I missed something, but I really don't think so, and I follow many of them too].
It's ironic, because then you go online and all you see is italians making fun of Nouhaila for being an hijabi and they act like sudden feminists and supporters of their idea of women's emancipation. They are also the ones who make fun of the italian wnt all the time, though. They insulted them since the very first day. Here you go the so called progressive white men. Italy only bought the rights for a bunch of games to be aired on tv. The media coverage is close to 0. Male players don't care either. The federation don't promote shit. And it's ironic how different it is from Morocco, and how much safer, as a woman who loves this sport, I feel in following my country's football (Morocco, only Morocco). The fact that our boys are supporting our girls is not a coincidence but a product of a clearly different way of thinking, it's a strong idea of pride and community that clearly transcend genders, other than real investments and a strong projects from which both male and female football can benefit from.
So, while I do respect all of you praising Morocco for being, once again, the "cinderella" of the tournament, I also ask you to take into accounts we're definitely way ahead some of the other european countries here. Don't think of Morocco as a less progressed country in this, because I can tell you we aren't.

Overview
The fundamental concern as we look to reform health in America is the known reality that most chronic diseases that afflict Americans are predominantly lifestyle induced; and the belief is that the vast majority of heart attacks and strokes could be prevented if people were willing to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors. In addition, healthy lifestyles would impact a significant number of cancers which are also believed to be related to lifestyle exposures, especially to obesity, cigarettes, and other toxins.
Over the past 50 years, the health of Americans has gotten worse, and now 71% of Americans are overweight or obese—not 66%, which was reported 5 years ago.1 That means a staggering 100 million people in America are obese. Today, eating processed foods and fast foods may kill more people prematurely than cigarette smoking.2
Authorities determined the 71% figure by classifying people with a body mass index (BMI) over 25 kg/m2 as overweight or obese. Yet in long-lived societies such as in the “Blue Zones” (Ikaria, Greece; Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica; and Loma, Linda California) and wherever we find groups of centenarians, we observe a healthy BMI below 23 kg/m2, not 25 kg/m2. If we use above 23 kg/m2 as the demarcation for overweight or obesity, then we find that 88% of Americans are overweight. And out of the approximately 10% that are of normal weight, the majority of those so-called “normal weight individuals” are either cigarette smokers, or suffer from alcoholism, drug addiction or dependency, autoimmune disease, occult cancers, inflammatory disorders, autoimmune conditions, digestive disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, and other illnesses that lower their body weight. Therefore, perhaps that only about 5% of the American population is at a normal weight as a result of eating healthy and living a healthy life. A recent study documented that only 2.7% of Americans adopt a relatively healthy lifestyle by combining exercise with healthy eating.3 The Standard American Diet (SAD) is clearly not a healthy diet.
I use the term “Fast Food Genocide” because most don’t understand the depth and breadth of the harm as a large segment of our society eats a diet worse than the dangerous SAD. Many people recognize that junk food, fast food, processed food, white flour, sugar, maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, and all the junk people are eating contribute to in obesity, diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, dementia and cancer, but many don’t realize the strong causative role an unhealthy diet may have in mental illness. Currently, 1 in 5 Americans suffers from a psychiatric disorder. And many people don’t realize the harm that processed foods have on Americans living in urban areas where they don’t have easy access to whole, fresh foods.
These unfortunate folks live in what we call “food deserts,” with reduced availability to fresh fruits and vegetables. Because of the limited access to supermarkets, they eat more unhealthy fast and processed foods and end up having 7 times the risk of early-life stroke (before age 45), putting people in nursing homes in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.4-7
The vulnerable poor in these areas also have double the risk of heart attack, double the risk of diabetes, and 4 times the risk of renal failure8-10; Unfortunately, the decrease in life span due to food inequality is shocking but rarely discussed. A substantial proportion of people in these urban environments are overweight, prediabetic, or fully diabetic. Researchers determined that compared with other areas in America with easy access to supermarket food, that the YPLL (Years of Potential Life Lost) for an overweight diabetic living in a zone classified as a food desert was a shocking 45 years!11,12
A link may even exist between fast food, processed food, commercial baked goods, and sweets and destruction of brain cell and a lowering of intelligence. Candy and sweetened baked goods may even stimulate the brain in an addictive fashion, which can lead to more serious illnesses.
The nutritional fundamentals accepted by the World Health Organization and most nutritional authorities today include vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds, and fruit as healthy foods; and salt, saturated fat, and excess sugar as disease causing. Excessive amounts of animal products may lead to premature aging, increased risk of chronic disease and higher all-cause mortality. Multiple studies have been published on hundreds of thousands of people, followed for decades showing that the objective endpoint of death is increased with higher amounts of animal product consumption.13-17 Furthermore, refined carbohydrates may not just lead to being overweight and diabetic but also contribute to dementia, mental illness, and cancer.18-21 There is considerable evidence today that heart disease is not only promoted by saturated fat and increased animal products but also by refined carbohydrates, including white rice, white bread, sugar, honey, maple syrup, and agave nectar.22-25
Research has shown that excess calories shorten lifespan, whereas moderate caloric restriction slows the aging process and protects the body and brain. Americans consume more calories than any other population; and they consume foods, many of which have minimal or no nutritional value (soda and alcohol as examples). So let’s consider the individual who is consuming 50 excess calories per day. What will be the short- and long-term result? Fifty excess calories per day, over and above your basic metabolic needs, over a 10-year period, adds about 50 pounds of extra body weight. The excess weight increases the risk of multiple chronic illnesses, cancers, and also takes many years of life away from the individual simply as a result of consuming only 50 calories a day too many.
Conversely, if an individual consumed 50 calories a day less that their metabolic requirements what would happen then? Would he or she become too thin, anorexic, and unhealthy? Would their bones fall apart? Obviously not! When you moderately caloric-restrict, even a small amount such as 50 to 100 calories a day, weight remains about the same, the person is slim, not too thin, and healthy. He or she will have a lower body fat percentage, and the skeletal mass, bones, and muscle mass are strong. In this scenario, the metabolic rate would slow down accordingly. The respiratory quotient, (the number of calories lost through respiration) would decrease, the body temperature would lower, and thyroid function would decrease slightly, all lowering the metabolic rate, which overall may result in a slowing of the aging process. The secret to a long life and freedom from chronic disease may be simply to moderately reduce calories in order to slow down our metabolic rate. The only behavior proven scientifically to dramatically increase life span in every species of animals, including primates, is to lower caloric intake while maintaining an environment of micronutrient adequacy, assuring that we have exposure to every micronutrient humans need. The American diet is also deficient in antioxidants and phytochemicals that are needed for normal immune function, for maximizing brain health, protecting against dementia, chronic illness, cancer, and premature aging.

If you had to give nationalities to your twst ocs, what would they be?
Well, keep in mind, TW doesn't exist in the exact same world as ours. There are obvious regions that are analogous to places in our world, but they're always a little different and typically have different names. A lot of my OCs come from places that don't canonically exist in the world of the game, and nearly all of them are Caucasian. Also, most of them don't have strong accents in my imagination.
Elias comes from the same hometown as Vil and Jack, somewhere in the Shaftlands. That's about all I can give at the moment. Billy comes from a place called "the Kingdom Above the Clouds," which is literally a land entirely populated by giants. I kind of see them as almost their own world or country, and there are probably giants of mixed races and dialects up there. Billy's home and family lineage I think would most likely be recognized as Caucasian American; hard to give an exact region. Maelstrom is from the ocean. I personally like to imagine Maelstrom swims far distances in a "territory" that can reach a large number of countries; so you could run into him off the coasts or in-between various places. However, in terms of where he SPECIFICALLY lives - like, where he and his mother call home - most likely either in the Mediterranean Sea, or some part of the North Atlantic Ocean. So nearby countries would include Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Ireland, and the UK. In terms of his voice, however, he'd have a sort of basic American accent, sooooo nationality doesn't mean much. :P Speaking of those last two places, James and Smitty are both from whatever equivalent to the UK exists in this world. Smitty's parents are actually from Ireland, but he's lived in the UK-esque-place all his life, and doesn't have much of an Irish accent. (His parents are another story.) He and James both have English dialects. Reno I think comes from a region akin to the Southwestern USA. (Which is actually my area of the country.) He'd most likely live in a state similar to Nevada. His accent is a strong southern American dialect. Theodore comes from a place I haven't determined a name for, which is sort of a cross between the Land of Oz and the Midwestern USA. I haven't fully figured out the details on his homeland yet, in terms of where one ends and the other begins. Grit...KIND OF comes from the same place, but kind of not. Just like Billy and Maelstrom, his origins are more fantastical in nature. He lives in the Nome Kingdom, a country under the earth that spans across the same basic region. However, the Nome Kingdom is totally separate from the "Overworld" of the surface-dwellers, with its own laws, areas, and so on.
Nakoda is the only non-Caucasian member of my gallery, I believe, and his homeland is analogous to India. He doesn't have a noticeable accent, but I think that's because he's worked it out of himself; when he was younger, it was probably very strong. I think for a brief time either Reno's family lived in this country that resembled India, or perhaps Nako's family lived in the US-analogous-country for a while; that's how the two met, but when one side's family returned to their home, they sort of lost contact until they re-encountered one another at NRC. I've never decided which option I like more, in terms of which family went where.

09: Something Pretty Amazing
Hey all!
After a week-long break, I am back with another blog post. This week we were all asked to reflect upon the most amazing thing we know about nature. Having experienced the two extremes of hours basking under the hot sun in the Greek Islands and being bundled in layers in strong windstorms up north, I recognize the great amount of diversity we have in natural landscapes across the world. Not only did the species and climate differ in each location I have travelled to, but the people did as well.
What has inspired me about the natural world throughout my travels and experiences is how through the evolution of humanity, our relationship with the natural world has changed.
The Western world is motivated by production. Developers compete with other companies and expand their businesses via surface area or internal connections. Large oil companies in western Canada extract thousands of litres of oil daily and plant a few trees in efforts to reconcile the damage they have done. Our ancestors recognized the natural world has some of the purest remedies and resources one could need and readily foraged for them (Geniusz & Geniusz, 2015). It has been noted that Sphagnum moss (peat moss) was regularly used by the Annishabee peoples are diaper lining for the incredible absorbent quality of the moss species (Geniusz & Geniusz, 2015). Our Arboretum has several berry species and weed species such as Dandelions that can be sourced as a pasta alternative (Ontario Nature, 2017). Some of the greatest teachings from our ancestors describe how fulfilled their life is when they become one with nature.
Tumblr media
While travelling Europe, I appreciated the value of nature that several countries still hold. Italy is industrialized, without doubt, but even through industry, I was astonished by how many home gardens I saw. People see the value in producing their own food, spending time outdoors, and have the appreciation that much of the Western world is lacking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As someone who lives in the Ontarian consumer driven society like many of you, we often look for efficiency, regardless of the impact it has on our environment. I have noticed our society is growing increasingly impatient with far shorter attention spans as time goes on. This transfers into the lack of acknowledgement and respect of our natural world. Nature interpretation is the bridge to providing the knowledge and exposure to the natural world and the value it holds (Hooykaas, 2024).
Tumblr media
I am extremely passionate about sourcing from local markets and sourcing my food from nature. I have the utmost respect for our ancestors and the teachings they have provided us. Rather than seeing my walk to the grocery store as simply moving from point A to B, I appreciate the time spent in the outdoors. To summarize, the ability for humans to connect with the natural world both physically and emotionally is what has always amazed me most. This is a connection I will continue to cherish as I continue to learn about nature interpretation.

Niko Munz
"My research interests lie in late medieval and early modern art, spanning Germany, the Low Countries, France, Italy and England. My current research project, entitled 'Image Rights', looks at the legal resonances of late medieval facial representation. It seeks to prove that pre-modern ‘representation’ had a double meaning largely forgotten by modern scholarship: the classic symbolic operation of one thing replacing another (in writing, pictures, etc.); but also the juridical dimension of substitution binding the exchanged components together legally.
Images of individuals have had a long history of lawful significance, dating to the Roman ‘right to representations’. Painted portraits, however, emerged only c. 1350 and were used initially for subjects with legitimate claims to portrayals (like monarchs). My focus is on the relatively neglected early instances of painted facial representation in German-speaking regions. The new portrait genre prospered in German free imperial cities with perhaps greater intensity than in any other urban environment. From the late 1300s, German law also underwent dramatic transformations which reshaped the individual’s legal autonomy. For the image-commissioning population—often educated or actively involved in law—and for artists alike, the new portrait genre established itself within a web of rights, controls, and official capacities. My research therefore takes into consideration the various active legal-visual dimensions across material culture (seals, letters, coins) to conceptualise the early portrait as a complex visual sign, uniting text, insignia and figure.
My PhD thesis, 'From Shrine to Room: An Interpretation of the House Interior in Early Netherlandish Panel Painting c.1400-1450' (2021), looks at the introduction of the 'realistic' domestic interior into northern painting. Closely analysing composition and form, reception, media, material culture, and the motivations and influences of various religious and social contexts, it interrogates the moment painters gave the religious image an earthly setting. My case studies range from late medieval pre-Eyckian painting’s ‘micro-architectural’ tendencies to the mid-15th-century emergence of the ‘milieu portrait’ in Petrus Christus’ oeuvre; when pictorial background was converted into social background. These developments help us to understand the emergence of the interior scene, that significant genre, which continues to serve multiple purposes in image-making right up to the present day.
As well as continuing to publish 17th-century primary materials relating to the history of the royal collection––most recently, on Artemisia Gentileschi's time in England––I work on a long-term collaborative digital project on Charles I, cited below. It provides a 3D reconstruction of several rooms at Whitehall Palace c. 1639 and republishes the collection inventories online, tracing the locations of many significant early modern paintings previously thought lost. I also have a strong interest in the historical theory and historiography of art and am currently preparing a publication on early Renaissance pictorial space."

London, San Marino, Toronto - October 2023
Just back from fabulous art viewing experiences abroad and in Toronto. Stopovers included: Frieze London, Frieze Masters and the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London as well as the Philip Guston exhibit at the Tate Modern; La Galleria Nazionale in the Republic of San Marino; and Art Toronto in Hogtown. The whole, for the most part, was enjoyed in the context of a three week stay in Italy where the hilltop medieval village of Petritoli, located in Le Marche, served as home base, and offered spectacular vistas of land, sea and mountains, all longstanding muses throughout history. Without looking too hard, traces of Ellsworth Kelly’s curves, Jasper Johns’ crosshatches and Frank Stella’s grids could all be seen in the roofscapes and landscapes, providing a breathtaking backdrop to daily activities, whether art related or other.
London
The transition from bucolic and sunny Petritoli to chaotic and rainy London was drastic but exhilarating. Frieze Week in mid-October is the global launching pad for the all-important fall season in the art world. With summer days in the rear-view mirror, an intense focus radiated from the London art scene with the convergence of exhibit openings, important contemporary and modern auctions, and preeminent art fairs. While the weightiness of a challenged economy and ongoing wars was perhaps most evident in the squishy auction results, elsewhere, the mood and excitement were upbeat as fair venues and exhibits were flooded by art fans and aficionados.
Frieze London and Frieze Masters art fairs ran concurrently under the stars, so to speak, in separate tents in the wonderful greenspace of Regent’s Park. Frieze London’s defining focus is on living artists and contemporary art. This year’s edition, the 20th, included over 160 participating galleries with a strong contingent of 40 or so international exhibitors. Noteworthy was the caliber of presenting galleries and works on display. While remaining very faithful to the contemporary focus, large well-established mega galleries were ever so present along with their roster of anointed stars, perhaps at the expense of the more experimental flair historically more synonymous with Frieze. A walking distance away through a maze of outdoor sculptures, Frieze Masters hosted over 130 galleries that showcased an eclectic mix of art works ranging from archaeological finds dating to thousands of years BC to 20th century masterpieces. Fair highlights included:  Tabboo!’s “Desert Moon”, 2021, acrylic on canvas (60 x 50 in.); Simone Leigh’s “Untitled”, 2022, stoneware, 25.75 x 11.75 x 16.5 in.); and Anna Mark’s “R 1002”, 1968, synthetic resin, sand, pigment on canvas, mounted on wooden frame (20 x 20.25 in.).
Elsewhere in the city at Somerset House, the 11th edition of 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair was in full swing with a line-up of over 60 galleries showcasing more than 170 artists. There, the excitement of discovery and seeing new things being done by emerging talents was palpable. Highlights included: Godwin Champs Namuyimba’s “Fathering spirit”, 2023, acrylic on canvas (90.5 x 78.75 in.); Emmie Nume’s “When we use to”, 2021, mixed media on paper (55.5 x 41.75 in.); and a pair of works by Theresa-Anne Mackintosh, “Walking with my body conscious” and “Comfortably dazed”, 2023, oil and acrylic on canvas (each, 34.25 x 39.5 in.).
Also in London, a captivating Philip Guston retrospective was being held at the Tate Modern. Spanning a 50-year career, the comprehensive survey included everything from the artist’s more classical early works to pieces depicting his fiery brand of abstraction and, most prominently, paintings and drawings featuring his iconic comic-like figures and imagery that captured the anxious and turbulent world around him. The whole made for an intense and sometimes unsettling experience. While the museum walls were bursting with large scale masterworks that chronicled the Guston story, it was a small self-portrait that was most memorable - “Untitled”, 1968, acrylic on board. Barely noticeable behind the artist’s gaze painted in the foreground were the remnants of an earlier work of a hooded figure. The effect hauntingly captured Guston’s lifelong nightmarish preoccupation with racism.
San Marino
The next art stop was an unplanned pleasant surprise that surfaced during a day trip to San Marino. Located on the northeastern side of the Apennine Mountains and surrounded by Italy, San Marino is the fifth smallest country in the world, and it boasts a historic center high up on Monte Titano at approximately 2500 feet above sea level that features three medieval towers dating back to the 11th century. There was almost a Vegas-like surrealness to the place with throngs of tourists making the pilgrimage to take in the spectacular views and medieval setting. Nestled in one of the few quiet corners of the historic city and a bit isolated from the many churches, palazzos and eateries was La Galleria Nazionale di San Marino, the country’s center of modern and contemporary art.Housed in the renovated Logge dei Volontari, the museum is dedicated to showcasing its collection of post war art which was amassed from international art biennials held in San Marino beginning in the mid-50s. It was totally surprising to come across fantastic works by lesser-known American artists, including: James Brown’s “Opera Contro Natura”, 2003, mixed media and collage on folded linen (59 x 98.75 in.); and David Row’s “B.N.I.”, 1992, oil on canvas (in three parts, overall, 66 x 85.75 in.).
Toronto
Returning back from the old world with only one viewing day left at Art Toronto, the opportunity was seized to cap off the art adventure with a visit to Canada’s premiere contemporary and modern art fair. While the corridors were filled with rumblings of challenging times, the viewing experience was fantastic. Over 100 galleries took to the floor of the Toronto Metro Convention Center and offered up works from over 1000 artists. As a bonus, the launching of Jack Bush’s catalogue raisonné drew out many of his works that were scattered throughout the fair, including two favorites: “Untitled”, 1962, gouache on paper (35.25 x 23 in.); and “Red, Orange, Green”, 1965, serigraph, edition 67 of 100 (25.5 x 20 in.). Other fair highlights included: Emma Kohlmann’s “Tulip”, 2023, oil on linen with cherry frame (14.25 x 12.25 x 1.25); Catherine Desroches’ “Déliason du corps contre le ciel”, 2023, bronze, pine, plywood, lost wax casting dust, foundry kiln ashes, graphite powder, charcoal on newsprint and on panel (84 x 49 in.); Marcel Barbeau’s “Iris”, 1962, acrylic on canvas (76.4 x 51.2 in.); and Jean-Paul Riopelle’s “Sans titre (1958.006P)”, 1958, oil on paper (25.5 x 19.75 in.).
Meanwhile, the sports scene in North America was frenetic with activity as all major sports leagues were in some state of play. In Dinoland, emotions were cautiously optimistic following a perfect pre-season and a home opener win. After that celebratory moment, however, reality set in for rookie Head Coach Darko Rajaković. Three losses later, the new system was being questioned, and all the ghosts of last year’s disappointing season were surfacing. A win against a star-laden Bucks team provided some glimmer of hope, but that too was soon quashed with a thumping courtesy of ex-Dino Head Honcho Nick Nurse and his 76ers. Can a Fredless team be so different? It’s got to be the system. It’s early, I know, but it doesn’t bode well. Up next, Wemby-mania in the Lone Star State. Ugh.
For more information on any of the artists or works mentioned, the fairs, exhibits, Petritoli and Coach Darko’s system, “Just Google It”.

Asian Sea Bass Market, centered around the cultivation and distribution of Lates calcarifer, is thriving amid a global wave of health-conscious consumerism. Known for its rich taste and high nutritional value, Asian sea bass is increasingly in demand across both domestic and international markets. In 2024, the market volume is estimated at 380 thousand metric tons, with projections aiming for 600 thousand metric tons by 2028, driven by rising appetite for premium seafood. The industry spans aquaculture, wild capture, hatchery development, feed production, and advanced processing, with sustainability at its core. Coastal economies are benefiting significantly from this growing industry, positioning Asian sea bass as both a culinary favorite and an economic driver.

Who will win FIFA 2026? Favorites, latest odds and betting for finals in North America
With the UEFA Nations League completed and settled, all focus now shifts towards the FIFA 2026, with qualification campaigns in progress and the event now merely a year away. It pledges to be a World Cup unlike any before, as it will be the initial instance that 48 nations will take part and matches will occur across three separate countries — the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Tumblr media
Argentina are the reigning titleholders, having overcome France on penalties in arguably the most remarkable final ever, and both sides are once again among the present favorites to win next year. But who will claim the 2026 World Cup? The Sporting News presents you with all the current betting odds via Parimatch.
Winner betting odds for FIFA 2026
Here’s the most recent odds for the nations tipped to secure the FIFA World Cup 2026, with values for all those listed at 101.0 or lower. Odds are accurate at the time of release but are liable to modification. Stay updated with the revised values as the market changes.
Tumblr media
As the anticipation grows for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, the latest odds provide a glimpse into how sportsbooks assess the top competitors. Spain currently tops the field with odds of 6.50, closely tailed by France at 7.50 and Brazil at 7.0. England continues as a strong contender as well, positioned at 8.0, while title holders Argentina follow at 9.0.
Germany and Portugal are likewise among the contenders with odds of 11.0 and 13.0, respectively. The Netherlands and Italy come next at 21.0 and 26.0, with Uruguay, Belgium, and Colombia ranging between 34.0 and 51.0. The USA and Norway both carry 51.0 odds, signifying moderate outlooks, while Mexico, Denmark, and Croatia each stand at 67.0.
Meanwhile, Japan and Morocco are considered underdogs at 101.0, and Canada places further down the rankings with odds of 151.0. These numbers not only emphasize the intense rivalry among footballing nations but also provide a perspective into how each squad is presently evaluated on the international level.
Favorites and top candidates for the FIFA World Cup 2026 gaming
France. Holding arguably the most ability of any nation in global football at present and having reached the previous two finals, Les Bleus are predictably ranked high on this list. Kylian Mbappe and Ballon d’Or frontrunner Ousmane Dembele headline a star-studded lineup that also includes the most exciting new prospects in French football: Desire Doue, Michael Olise, Bradley Barcola and Rayan Cherki.
Accommodating all of them will be nearly unmanageable, but Didier Deschamps must release the brakes on his squad this time, unlike during Euro 2024. It might be the factor between capturing a third World Cup or enduring yet another narrow disappointment.
Spain. La Roja’s ranking as favorites is entirely justified, considering they captured Euro 2024 and were only defeated via penalties in the Nations League final. They also overcame France in both tournaments, demonstrating they have the measure of a team they could very likely encounter in North America next summer.
Lamine Yamal is the clear standout, but Luis de la Fuente can also count on Euro final scorers Nico Williams and the vastly underrated Mikel Oyarzabal for goals. Spain also possesses unquestionably the most dominant midfield in global football at the moment, with Pedri, Fabian Ruiz and Martin Zubimendi starting the Nations League final while current Ballon d’Or holder Rodri steadily returns from a major knee injury.
Brazil and England Confront Legacy and Pressure Ahead of Football World Cup 2026
Brazil. The Seleção has lifted the World Cup a record five times, yet it will mark a 24-year gap when they take the field next summer. They haven’t reached a final in that span either, having been eliminated by European opponents in each of the past five competitions.
Tumblr media
Their loss at the quarter-final phase last time around could very likely have marked Neymar’s final World Cup outing for the Selecao. But they still possess an exceptional range of skill spearheaded by Vinicius Jr, Raphinha and Matheus Cunha. Can Carlo Ancelotti achieve what he has managed with Real Madrid and make all the components function in unison?
It will be 60 years of disappointment by the moment the Three Lions head across the Atlantic. Gareth Southgate came closest to breaking the notorious drought with two Euros final defeats, but now the responsibility of rescuer has been transferred to Thomas Tuchel.
Germany and Argentina Direct Improbability Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026
The German possesses an impressive competition résumé at club level, but this marks his first international post, and he has had a rather underwhelming beginning. Nonetheless, there is still ample time to rectify things, and England boasts a new Golden Generation to develop.
Argentina. It might be somewhat unexpected to witness the World Cup and Copa America title-holders positioned so low at the moment, but this is an ageing squad that may have seen its prime by next summer. Lionel Messi will continue to lead the charge at the age of 39. But he will need the support of Julian Alvarez, Alexis Mac Allister Enzo and Fernandez to increase more.
If Argentina is to own a genuine chance to protect its title. They have done consequently in succeeding, with La Albiceleste 10 points ahead at the summit of the South American requirement group, and with their ticket taken for North America. Might they pull it off once more?
Germany. They have endured a decade to forget since lifting their fourth World Cup in 2014. With first-round exits in both of the past two editions, and without even a final appearance in any of the three European Championships during that era, either.
Germany Rebounds and Portugal Eyes Historic Glory in FIFA 2026 Campaign
However, circumstances have improved under the leadership of Julian Nagelsmann. With narrow eliminations at Euro 2024 and the 2025 Nations League to eventual winners, Spain and Portugal. With some promising young prospects, namely Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, and their status as a historic footballing powerhouse, you simply can’t dismiss them.
Tumblr media
Include talents like Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and the electrifying Francisco Conceicao. And Roberto Martinez commands a roster capable of matching any rival. Not to mention Cristiano Ronaldo, who astonishingly seems set to compete in his sixth and likely final World Cup at the age of 41. What a sendoff it would be to cap a flawless career.
