Hey there!! I just wanted to say i absolutely LOVE your writing style and found you a little bit ago and I just like- your stuff is absolutely AMAZING!!!
I don’t know if this is improper to ask, but I’ve been thinking about writing rottmnt fics as well, but don’t really know the best way to start and I wanted to ask if you had any specific tips for either character studies or writing tips! Thank you so much and it’s so nice to see an update (IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!)
-🪻💕
hello hello!! thank you so much!!
it's not improper at all! i get a good number of asks where people ask questions like that and i'm always happy to give my personal opinion on things like that. it's how creative communities grow after all! sharing tips and techniques!
anywho, here are some tips for you:
consume the source material. the more you can hear the show in your head, the more you can hear the way the characters speak and interact with one another, the more you can manipulate those voices into believable dialogue and actions. donnie sounds different from leo who sounds different from mikey, etc. that should be reflected in your writing!
write character blurbs. when i'm first learning how to write a character, i'll write a few little drabbles or the like to pin them down. it can be something like. "their crush walks in the room." then you write that. how would leo react? how would donnie react? raph? splinter? do that lots and lots and lots, and you start to build your confidence with scenarios and stuff.
read. this one is one i tend to do more when i'm first learning a character, since i often get too wrapped up in writing to read as much, but it's super useful in the beginning. read what other people are writing, but not as a reader--as a writer. deconstruct things. what do you like? why? what didn't you like? why? what would you have done differently? if given that same premise, how would you handle it? this can help you find the tropes you like (and thus can gravitate towards writing) and those you don't like (and thus the ones you don't want to lean into). for example, i don't like fics where there's a love triangle, so i very rarely write that. i'm a sucker for that "true love" kind of romance where "this is the only one i have eyes for," so that's what i write. not to say that those fics are bad, i just don't like them as much. find your tropes you like!
practice practice practice. this one is probably the most important. my number one advice to you is WRITE! open up a blank page and just go. don't worry about finding the perfect plot, the right words, if people are going to like it, if you're going to be popular, or how to get the right characterization. none of that!! just write. start. get the words out. use a random word generator to find your first word if you're stuck. use a prompt starter. whatever it takes! start writing and then don't stop until you finish it. then do that again, again, again, over and over and over. eventually you'll be much, much more comfortable with writing in general. get this down, and literally everything else will come with time.
those are just a couple tips. i hope you find them helpful, and good luck and have fun!!

Under the cut: a snippet from another random Jily oneshot I started a while back and have never been arsed to finish.
There are terrible venues at which to stage a first date, and then there's a noodle canteen.
Admittedly, a noodle canteen is not the worst place for a first date—his mate Peter once brought a girl to a family funeral—but it is the worst kind of restaurant.
Reason one of two: James can't even order the fucking noodles that the aforementioned noodle canteen is known for. He is not particularly skilled in the art of using chopsticks, and even on a fork, noodles have a pesky habit of sliding off and spattering sauce everywhere, which is a first date Don't. A first date faux pas. A first date tragedy. James only ever goes to this place for its teriyaki salmon soba, but the risk to his shirt and his dignity is too great.
He orders the spicy miso mackerel instead, which comes with brown rice and is tasty, but decidedly not salmon-esque.
Reason two of two: it's a noodle canteen. He and his date aren't sequestered away at a private table, where any other major mistake on his part might go unnoticed by all but the woman he's with, but jammed right at the end of a busy public bench. To James's left sits a man who could easily be found walking calmly away from an explosion in a major Hollywood blockbuster, manoeuvring chopsticks through his own noodles with silky expertise while he listens to his stunning girlfriend talk about some prick from her work, who sounds like a right sort; not that James is eavesdropping, or at least, he'll deny it if anyone asks.
Point is, he's a little off his game.
All right, he's a lot off his game. He's several miles off his game. He'll need to take the Eurostar if he ever hopes to reach the vicinity of his game, but that would leave him in France, which is the only scenario that could make this evening worse.
At the very least, it's warm here in the restaurant. It's colder than his vegetable crisper outside.
"Is your food good?" he asks Chloë from Hinge.
Chloë from Hinge, who suggested the noodle canteen in the first place, pops a generous forkful of kimchee into her mouth and shrugs. "Yeah, it's alright."
James tries not to be put off by the fact that she's speaking to him through a wide-open mouthful of fermented cabbage. Or that they both promised to wear Christmas jumpers on this date and she turned up in a silver halter dress instead.
He wonders if she's spoken through a wide-open mouthful of fermented cabbage because she wants to put him off.
It's not beyond reason to think it. Chloë's interest in James appears to have waned since she asked him for his astrological sign over their gyoza starters and replied, "Wow, huge red flag" upon learning that he is Aries, and with such blunt distaste that he's still not sure if she was joking, because she did not clarify her position during the awkward silence that followed. Everything has been weird since then, with James feeling forced by circumstance to supply most of the conversation while she's stared at him with glazed-over eyes, has not asked to see a single picture of his cat, and winced when she learned that he shares a flat with his brother.
Is that a bad thing, sharing a flat with one's brother at his age?
James is only twenty-five, which is practically the first flush of youth and not nearly old enough to cross the roommate-having threshold that separates "pushing it" from "downright embarrassing." The downright embarrassing age is forty, which he thought everyone knew.
Besides, Sirius hasn't yet learned to function properly without him. He'd forget to take his vitamins and wouldn't set up standing orders to pay his bills, if he didn't live with James. He wouldn't know to separate whites from darks when he laundered his clothes—or maybe he wouldn't launder his clothes, just purchase more clothes whenever they grew dirty. James has had to learn to handle all of that stuff because he lives with Sirius. In many ways, it has been excellent practice for fatherhood, which should count as a plus in his favour. Chloë's profile says she wants to have kids.
And while James is hard-wired to believe that, when it comes to women, he must be the one to blame when things go wrong… he's starting to think that Chloë might be the problem.
He's really not sure what's happened. She called him fit a bunch of times on Hinge, where they got along quite well.
Now she seems annoyed to be here.
If he could, he'd ask the too-attractive and intelligent-seeming couple next to him for their thoughts on the matter, but they're happily enjoying their cherry blossom lemonades and the woman (who is eating teriyaki salmon soba, an extra rub of salt in the wound) has already slanted one-too-many pitying half-smiles in his direction. So she probably thinks the fault all lies with him.
"It's bloody cold out there, isn't it?" he offers, which is just pathetic, really. The weather was the first topic they touched on when they sat down, but she's not been buying anything else he's selling, so here they are again.
His other option is to explain the work that goes into taking care of the adult toddler he lives with, but he doubts that she'll be interested.
"Freezing," Chloë replies, addressing her cabbage.
"Makes me wish I was on a beach somewhere."
"Yeah. That'd be nice."
"Last time I was on holiday I was with my family in Greece. One day it was so hot my mum said you could fry an egg on the ground, so we tried it—my brother and I—but it barely wound up partially cooked," he starts to ramble. "She was all grouchy when we told her about it, said we shouldn't take her words so literally, but she's a chef, so I personally think she was mad that we'd found a chink in her knowledge."
"Mmm," his date agrees. Then she drops her chopstick on the table with an ungainly clatter. "D'you mind if I go to the toilet?"
Freedom! his mind sings. Whole MINUTES of sweet freedom from this torture! "Go right ahead."
Chloë doesn't need telling twice. She slides off the edge of the bench and unfurls at speed, rising to her high-heeled feet with the slightest wobble and shouldering her purse. James watches her retreating back as she hurries away, thankfully (or tragically) in the direction of the toilets, rather than the exit.
He's not sure how he feels about that.
As humiliating as it would be to get ditched in a noodle canteen, the relief of ending this night early would almost be worth the trouble.
With a laboured sigh, he pushes both hands through his rumpled hair once, then bows his head over the long table in a move reminiscent of a lonely Ken, one elbow on either side of his plate, cradling his forehead with the tips of his fingers.
The sooner he gets out of here…
"Sounds like your mother wound up with egg on her face," quips the beefcake.
James lifts his head from his hands at once.
"Oh god, Kingley," the beefcake's stunningly pretty girlfriend (James can only assume she's his girlfriend, like calls to like and all that) groans, regarding him with disgust. "That was too cheesy to stomach, I'm leaving right now."
The beefcake ignores her and twists in his seat to face James. "You know that your date's not interested, yeah?"
"I'd gleaned that."
"I mean it's been painful to witness. Hasn't it?" The beefcake (Kingsley?) turns back around to solicit his companion's opinion, but she merely (kindly?) rolls her eyes and tosses a lock of red hair behind her shoulder with great delicacy and grace. "Just awkward as arse. I'm almost queasy thinking about it."

█▓▒░𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲!░▒▓█
← previous chapter next chapter →

After overthinking Belle's messages for the whole night, you came over to the 'Random Play' to return tape you rented. And also to do what you were asked to... or more like forced...
Upon entering you immidietly gained attention of two owners and the lovely bangboo behind the counter! But upon seeing you, Belle immidietly fleed without another word, leaving Wise just as confused as you.
Y/N▹"Well uh... I came to return the tape?"
W▹"Yeah of course. If you need anything more, let me know."
He said while taking the 'Oh~ Sweetie' videotape from you and putting it under counter for now as he bangboo was saving changes in the system.
Meanwhile you were standing there awkwardly and thinking how you should even ask a boy you know for barely few days out for a coffee! Which made him ask you what HE had in mind...
W▹"So... I know Belle got your number sneakily last night and... first of all I'm sorry for that. But secondly... did she said anything... I dunno.. weird?"
Y/N▹"Uh- No, not anything too weird I guess..."
W▹"If you say so..."
But you kept thinking about that one question of her... maybe this was actually the right opportunity to bring it and not make it weird?
Y/N▹"Actually she may've said some... interesting stuff?"
W▹"Oh?"
He hummed but said no more, not wanting to force you into saying anything you possibly may not want to reveal.
Y/N▹"She said something about you finding it awkward to ask me out so-"
W▹"Oh god- Please ignore that... I- I'm not awkward I swear.."
But you didn't hear him decline he wanted to ask you out... and that's what fueled your self confidence! So seeing as you could always leave this shop in a hurry... youdecided to just go for it.
Y/N▹"Did you perhaps want to go for a coffee?"
W▹"Well- Sure... But right now I'm a bit busy..."
B▹"I can take over the shop!! You two go!"
Suddenly Belle appeared from who knows where... but it seemed to shatter whatever Wise could use for an excuse... not that he wanted to avoid you, he was just... maybe he WAS awkward after all...
W▹"Alright then... Thanks Belle... Let's go. I know a shop nearby, maybe you even already know it."
He left the counter and came over to front door, opening it and waiting for you to go through first, and of course you did~
The walk to the cafe so nearby was a little bit awkward... not quiet, but the topics he chose were kind of basic conversation starters like 'what you think of the weather' and so. But.. he was trying! And that's what conts, no?
Eventually, when the two of you found a nice spot to sit at and ordered your coffee from the kind bot running it, his face turned more genuine.
W▹"Thank you for actually coming with me. I know we barely know each other..."
Y/N▹"Yeah but... I treat it as a way to get to know each other! Y'know?"
W▹"That's good~ Guess I really should start the 'get to know' conversation then!"
You could see his mood immidietly lightning up at your words and his confidence slightly rising.
W▹"What do you like, Y/N?"
This may seem like a basic starter but... he said it with such a charming smile and interest in his eyes that you didn't see it as that at all!!
Y/N▹"I like to write! Oh, and I also like video games~"
W▹"Heh~ Well... did I help you finish your project in the end?"
Y/N▹"Yeah, actually. I'm on my last chapter and will probably release the final project by the end of next month~"
W▹"That's good to hear. What's the title? I'll make sure to be on the lookout for it."
You were surprised to actually find someone with who the time felt like nothing. That with the blink of an eye it was suddenly dark outside.
He cared a lot about each of your words... maybe it was hard for him to make up a conversation at first, but he was definitely amazing listener~ So even when your time together was ending...
Y/N▹"Hey, Welt, why won't we repeat it one day, hm?"
W▹"With pleasure. When are you free?"
Y/N▹"Hm... how about in 3 days?"
W▹"Sounds perfect for me. I can show you to arcade, it's nice there, I swear."
You chuckled gently at his reassuring, even tho both of you knew you'll DEFINITELY enjoy playing at arcade! Especially with company like him~
Y/N▹"Of course! See you then?"
W▹"Yes... see you."
He waved back to you, as you got up from your seat to return home. Hopefully it wouldn't get too dark before you get there...

Random but do you have any Eustass Kid fics that you like? I struggle to find ones where he's not written like an asshole (nsfw is okay too btw!) I also like kidkiller/kidlaw or character study/coming of age type ones or modern au...just anything please<3
Oh man, okay!!! :"D I know tryin to find stories where he's not written as like some kind of abusive shithead is like. hard as fuck. I feel very lucky to have stumbled on the little Kid Enjoyers community that I have, and I'll try to give you some good recs. Just as a disclaimer, a lot of what I read and engage with tends to be like nsft stuff, so that's going to be a lot of what's on the list. Also there is the possibility for spoilers for the current arc, I'm not sure where you are in your one piece journey alsedkjfasld
Okay, so:
@quinloki : Has pretty much my favorite characterization set for Kid of all time. They write mostly smut and op x reader stuff in both shortform and longform formats, and have a variety of faves, so if you like their style and have faves other than Kid there's more stuff in there too. c:
Some of my fave pieces of theirs are shorter ones, so they're good starters, I'll link em here, here and here . (the links are gonna open to punks-never-die205, that's one of their sideblogs)
@swampstew : Writes STUNNING work both short and longform, absolutely loves Kid, and if you like her writing she has a huge backlog of stories both on her blog and on her wattpad. A++++ 10/10, she also runs a blog and is writing a longer series for Killer, KillerCook, which is SO splendid.
She also does headcanon lists, a TON of events, and x reader things, I'll link some starter ones here, here, and here. (the last one is to an anthology of short stories and drabbles on her wattpad that is a ton of fun)
@standfucker : good GRACIOUS me, okay listen. Standfucker does it all. A+++ Kid characterization. Hot, well-balanced, well-written stories. They write for a bunch of characters and also do like, multiple people in a pairing/scenario stuff, and it's all phenomenal.
First one is one of my personal favorites, which involves all the Kid Pirate officers here. This is also one of my fave pieces, you get Kid all to yourself in this one here.
@wyvernslovecake : If you'd like something a little more crew-oriented and a little less x reader smut oriented, PLEASE I am begging you look into their Kid Pirates and Cross Guild little drabble posts with their character Shriek (who is the cutest little bat mink on the Grand Line), and the named characters Gabriel and Gryphon who are [spoiler characters for current arc] and adopted by the Cross Guild. Everything they write (and draw!!) is so delightful and fun, it will brighten up your day by AT LEAST tenfold.
Here, here, and here are some good examples <3.
@eustasssimp : She has a lot of like shorter form x reader and headcanon posts, and write Kid like the gruff secret softie he is. <3
Some examples here, here, and here.
@cyborg-franky : Again, he has a truly prodigious backlog of writing, so if you enjoy his Kid stuff and have other faves, you could truly spend hours and days enjoying some excellently written fun stuff here.
here, here, and here are some examples.
**
I am absolutely certain I'm forgetting people lmfao, my working memory is very bad and I'm nursing a concussion, but hopefully this gives you at least a bit of a start!! Everyone listed, and really everyone in this little section of the community, is lovely, sweet, and wildly talented. There's a lot of friendly open sharing 'round these parts, and I hope you find somewhere to land and enjoy the big guy too. If none of these does it for you, or if you'd like additional recs, just let me know and we'll figure something out.
Thank you so much for your lovely ask!!
#av answers#ask#answered#anonymous#OP#Eustass Kid#fic recs#I don't actually read a ton of canon x canon fics surprisingly#there are a couple of pairings I read for sometimes but like#the (also wildly talented) people that write for them usually write like#longer pieces than my exhausted brain can parse#so I don't know a ton of specifically like kidlaw or kidkiller writers#a buddy of mine HAS mentioned doing a kidlaw fic#so when that drops I'll be reblogging the hell out of it so#keep your eyes peeled there

hi heard you were doing some match ups and i was wondering if u could do me one
For starters, im a demisexual girl, still debating if im bi or simply a straight ally(in that case i'd kindly ask for a male counterpart), i don't want to be shipped with mk, mei, sandy, tang, pigsy bc i only see them as friends, and ao lie bc i already got him two times
i struggle with anxiety, abandonment, self worth and attachment issues and am currently working on my insomnia
Im a really sensitive person(tho not to the point of crying)my familly calls me a litteral drama queen
I sometimes feel like a useless third wheel, i rarely get angry at anything and always get along with anyone, my friends to confuse my goofy, friendly and open minded behavior for naivety and stupidety and i really hate it
For my aesthetic: i guess im a bit of everything depending on my mood, i like it when it matches, tho i do prefer hardcore colors like fushia, purple and dark blue, i also wear some moon and star themed jewelry i make myself
Im an ambivert, i socialize pretty well but prefer alone times
My love languages is physical affection(im not too clingy since i value personal space and boundaries more), words of affirmation, flirting lots of flirting and quality time and for me communication is the key, i don't really have a type but i am looking for someone loyal, who will love me and my insecurities and will accept that im badly crazy sometimes
i like drawing, mythology, reading, writing poems, painting, listening to music depending on my mood, studying dark entities(wich freaks my parents out), walking in the city(during night time),and i have a weird habit of collecting bird skull
I match you with
Macaque
The good thing is he knows first hand what its like to deal with anxiety, abandonment, self worth, attachment issues and feeling like a useless third wheel. Which means he has special knowledge of how to help you through it and/or do what he can to make sure he's never the cause of those feelings
With everything that's happened in his past, he actually views your demeanor as strong and intelligent. In his mind it takes no effort or intelligence to be cynical and mean, it's easy to do- but being friendly and kind shows your strength of character. ( Don't let him hear your friends putting you down for it or protective mode is ACTIVATED)
It simultaneously makes his heart swell with pride and makes him super flustered to see you wearing moon-themed anything because he compares himself to the Moon and Wukong to the Sun. (Please make him some matching ones he would love it😭)
Poor Monkey is honestly affection starved so he's not used to any of it. He's so thankful that you want to give him affection even though it makes him flustered. Its so cute though, his face gets so red with any kind of affection its adorable
Person B: what is this?
Person A: affection
Person B: disgusting
Person B:
Person B: do it again
This has actually happened before 😂😂
He never imagined he'd be lucky enough to be with you, so trust me once he is he's never leaving
He loves going on walks with you at night, he also finds the skull thing interesting
If you’re having trouble getting to sleep he’ll do whatever you want to help, just talking about random stuff or humming or just generally being there for you

Unfortunately, Bakool Ja Ja is no longer with us. He started off really good, kicked ass effortlessly and got to level 8 in no time flat. But he managed to die in the Rust Wells of all places, because for some reason there was a Slumberling down there, and for some reason he woke up, charged me, and killed me in one hit. My theory: the Social Repugnance defect is so repugnant that it woke up the Slumberling! Maybe I just smell real bad?
Anyway, after that, I've spent the entire day with the next Qoomer pilgrim, and look! Qoomer XIV has made it to Grit Gate! He's the first pilgrim to get this far, but he's not the fourteenth pilgrim overall, that was just what number I was up to when I finally saved the build. I made a lot more after that, most of which died at level one, and I stopped bothering changing the name. He's probably the fortieth or so. But, this guy got real lucky! I started in a random village, and the starter quests were to go to another village and find their thing—this second village also had a quest to go find their thing... back in my first village—and to go discover a salt weep somewhere in the desert. I managed to do this on accident while being lost.
All this gave him a couple levels, and the first Unstable Genome procced. The options were, I don't remember, but I took Teleportation, so I'd have an escape button if things got hairy, which I knew they would many, many times. When I went to the Stilt and turned in all the books that I, um, "found," that got me to level 7, and another mutation: this time I took Precognition, since that would open the door to both shenanigans and saving my highly endangered bacon.
After that it was just exploring, getting lost, fighting stuff in forgotten ruins, fighting stuff in lairs, accidentally teleporting myself—yep, Quantum Jitters, my favorite—fourteen strata deep who knows where, trying to use the Recoiler only to find they gave me one with a dead battery, so on and so forth. I gained more levels, and more Unstable Genomes stabilized: next up, I had a pick between Stunning Force and Domination. I felt like Domination would be more in tune with my mind-powers Esper, and lead to some shenanigans; but I also really like Stunning Force. I had to yield to practicality, though, and I took the third option: Manipulate Light. Yeah. Can't-miss lasers that make me self-luminescent, so I could dual wield hammers? (I was hoping to be a mysterious swordsman, but, when it came time that I needed to spend points on some way to fight, the best weapon I had was a steel hammer.) And later I added Pyrokinesis to the mix.
So far, going good! I know, I always die right after I say that, but, consider: I die all the time, anyway. I'm not going to Golgotha until my final Unstable Genome procs—this will be the first time I successfully get all five to go. I'm only using my mutation points to power up the ones I've got, too, I'm not buying any new ones until the Unstable things are done. So far, my build has been to the tune of "How can I most effectively run away?" But, it's been working! I'm level 14 now... must be my lucky number... So, we'll have to go find a nice cave to explore and see if we can find any goodies. I've got a Recoiler with batteries, Teleportation, Precognition, and also a relic shield with a 6% chance to teleport me away whenever I take damage. So, if things look bad—which they usually do—I should have plenty of means to bail the entire hell out of there.
Anyway, see you in five minutes when I'm dead lol :p

My asks are currently off!
I'm currently not accepting requests!
Hello beautiful online people! This is a side blog of @questingbeastofaveyron, @floofgryph, @thesilliestrovingalive, and @beautyinafruitfulworld. This blog is dedicated to moodboards for only OCs, personas, and AU versions of canon characters, including the ones that belong to me! I also accept aesthetic moodboards. For those who are interested in knowing me and my work, go read my introductory post.
A very serious notice!
In regards to asks...
If you want to send a RP starter or a question and/or something for my characters to answer and react to, please send them to @beautyinafruitfulworld.
If you want to start a random conversation with me or send random stuff like personal questions and memes, please send them to @floofgryph.
If you want to send questions about Metal Slug or my Metal Slug AU, please send them to @thesilliestrovingalive.
If you want to send questions about my work overall or send me a little something that won't spark much discussion like a positive message, please send them at @questingbeastofaveyron.
If you want a moodboard, please send your request here.
Rules
Before submitting a moodboard request, please read the rules. I must inform you that these rules may change as necessary.
Before making a request, please thoroughly look through my rules and the linked intro post. If you fail to follow any of the rules, I'll deny your request and maybe kindly tell you off.
Please refrain from submitting moodboard requests for pre-existing fictional characters because this blog is not centred around them, and I would like to maintain that focus. However, I'm more than happy to create moodboards inspired by the aesthetic of those characters.
Please specify which OC you are referring to and provide enough information for me to work with.
If your OC moodboard request includes a canon character that I'm not familiar with, please provide me with the necessary information to understand them! I'm not a very media-literate person, and I only know some stuff many aren't familiar with.
If you have any specific colours, images, aesthetics, etc., that you would like me to use, please let me know!
I won't always assign songs to moodboards; however, I'll do so if I find the perfect fit. If I don't include a song and you would like one, please let me know and feel free to suggest a song you prefer!
If I'm not satisfied with a moodboard and I ask for your opinion on the final product I created for your request, please respond ASAP or I may decide to scrap it.
If there’s something about the final product that bothers you and you would like me to change it, please kindly let me know.
Please refrain from being rude if you don't like the final result as it'll lead you to being ignored, told off or blocked.
I won't create moodboards that include any inappropriate or offensive content such as incest and racism. However, I don't mind making moodboards for very specific sensitive content, such as gore.
If I accidentally use AI images, please kindly let me know and I'll redo the moodboard.
If you submit a request that's incompatible with what I feel comfortable doing, I'll politely let you know that I won't do it.
I'll sometimes skip adding emojis to the title of each moodboard, especially if I forget, can't find anything good or I'm in a rush. However, you're entirely free to suggest any emojis you would like me to use.
When I'm nearly finished creating a moodboard and you suddenly mention additional preferences that weren't specified in your initial request, I'll only provide what I've already completed. I'm not going to waste my precious time redoing the entire project at that point.
Don't make your request too open-ended or I'll be creatively stuck.
Don't spam requests!
Please be patient!

inspired by the manchester anon haha but do you have any tips and suggestions for visiting leeds? 🩷
I've lived here for 2 years now (!!!) but somehow I still don't really know my way around and just go to the same 5 places and use google maps to get anywhere else. it's sad. but here's some shit I love:
Grindhouse - cheap drinks, loads and loads of seats, never too full, music a reasonable volume, and they project 80s movies on the back wall. we once sat in here for 2 hours cos Stand By Me was on. one time we watched the bar staff earnestly tell a group of women on a hen do that the bar was closed and they weren't serving any more drinks, at 7:45pm. 10/10.
Rudy's - only 9 cities* in this fair nation have a Rudy's, so I'm going to keep reccing it for everyone else. perfect Neapolitan pizza. *Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Nottingham, Durham, London, York, Liverpool - if you live in one of these places and haven't been to Rudy's yet, sort it out.
Neon Cactus - go here on a Wednesday and order wings, and you'll get half price margs. lots of great Mexican scran. don't take anyone too picky or over 50, because the price for the great food and vibes is that at least one thing you order will be incorrect. but roll with it. half price margs, man.
Empire Cafe - book in advance if you want to sample the delights of Empire Cafe, cos there's like 6 tables max. everything is seasonal, changes on the daily, and is insanely delicious. if you want to experience heaven, order the steak and chips with salsa verde. there is NOTHING like it.
Stuzzi - another seasonal, small plate sort of place, but Italian. amazing food and a gorgeous restaurant. go with a big group and order one of everything.
Eat Your Greens - ANOTHER seasonal restaurant! this one is farm-to-fork and organic. I can’t speak to the quality as I haven’t actually been, but I am a frequenter of their GREENGROCER, which is MEGA. last time I think I left with natty wine, pâté, some insane tinned fish, a jar of harissa and a bag of sunset potatoes. if you like food, go here.
SARTO - fresh, handmade pasta and picky bits. another great place to go with a group and order all the starters. I had a celeriac pasta there last year that I think about on a fairly regular basis; I picked it cos it was the weirdest sounding thing on the menu and it was fucking mouthwatering. good quality and good people! and it's next door to The Wardrobe, so perfect for a pre-gig tea.
Santiago Bar - like Grindhouse (alternative, casual) but the music is louder and you'll find yourself doing tequila shots at 1am and screaming along to, like, Don Broco. it's the best.
Blue Collar Boys - as a rule I hate 'vintage' clothes shops (overpriced, ugly, everything is XXS), but this place seems to specialise solely in American t-shirts and sweatshirts from the 90s in exactly my size, and everything is £10. this is amazing and a huge bargain if you find something like vintage Wranglers and a Playboy bomber jacket (£20, my wife) but not so amazing or a bargain if you find 3 t-shirts with holes in (£30, me). we've never been without finding shit we love. they only open on random weekends, and they always seem to have more stuff than they could possibly ever sell. it's a freaky vintage alternate universe.
The Corn Exchange - a big gorgeous ol' building full of little businesses. vintage, handmade, tattoos, coffee, jewellery, independent brands, yarn, shoes, a barbers, a bookshop, they've got it all. very easy to spend £100 and 6 hours. every so often they have a market on the bottom floor. perfect tiny representation of Leeds: quirky, independent, delicious, cool.
Silver's Deli - this is a 9-minute train ride away in Bramley (my ends!) but has become THEE buzzy foodie spot recently. go on a sunny saturday morning (cos you will probably have to sit outside) and order the everything sandwich. thank me later. if they have scotch eggs or sausage rolls on, I beseech you, order both. and if you want the sunday special prepare to get there at 11 and fight.
Against the Grain - if you've come to Bramley for Silver's, you may as well trundle 10 minutes up the road and visit the best bar in Leeds. cosy, casual, full of locals, hidden in Swinnow Mills. it's a sit-around-and-chat-to-people sort of place, with bonus charcuterie boards AND a pizza van on weekends. we are here A LOT, because Gray's Salon and Rose and Thorn Tattoo are both in the Mill, and we give them all our money. oh! and dog friendly. sooo many dogs.
Project House/Galleria - if you've gotten the train out to Bramley for Silver's and ATG, jump on the 72 back to town and get off at Project House to eat MORE food. Galleria is a great place to get breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Project House has EVERYTHING (depending on the day). yoga! gigs! vintage fairs! a bi-annual tattoo convention meets makers market with food vendors called Hand of Glory! check what's on and head on down to support local!
Kirkstall Bridge Inn - another one local(ish) to me, but worth travelling out of town for; a PROPER pub (i.e. no tv, no sports, no shite) that does roasts upstairs and lets dogs in downstairs. outdoor seating right by the canal, and every so often they put something on and the car park turns into a tiny festival. Kirkstallpalooza is a highlight. great place to finish a nice canal walk (who am I?!).
tl;dr sorry that this is obnoxiously long, I love Leeds

Hey, I've got a trick for you that destroys writer's block. I'm not exaggerating when I say this works 100% of the time for me.
Couple things first. One thing about writer's block people don't understand: it's not real. I mean, it has a reality, like money or ideas, but you deal with illusions different from how you deal with real things. It's important to understand that there's a distinction between it and real world problems. We have this unfortunate idea that something is "all in your head," and the problem is that that makes it sound like something is wrong with you or "you're just imagining it," but the truth is the problem can have a powerful effect on you despite the fact that it is, in fact, all in your head, that you're just imagining it. Ideas have a power over us and we have to fight them, but we have to do it differently from the techniques we use to fight real things, like Lewey body disease or hunger.
Okay, I'm going to give you a metaphor. Let's say you have a lawn mower that's very hard to start. Maybe you have water in the fuel. And you're just sick of pulling on the pull cord. One thing you can do is take the cover off and modify the starter coil very slightly with a bolthead. That way you can take a cordless drill, find the right bit, and spin the motor with the drill instead of having to pull it with the cord. That's a lot easier. No matter what the problem is with the mower, if it's too cold or it's got water in it that needs to be blown through or whatever, everything is going to be a lot easier if you just use an electric starter and you have all the battery you need, because you can just keep cranking and cranking it until it start. Once it starts, it'll warm up and the bad fuel will work its way through and you're going to be fine, but it's really hard to get to that point by yanking the pull string. That's why we cheat by using an electric drill instead. (This is a real thing that people actually do. You can look it up on YouTube If you want, but I'm just using it as a metaphor here.)
Anyway, here's the actual physical activity that you indulge in to break through writer's block like The Incredible Hulk:
First, buy some cheap tools. I would go to the dollar store. Whatever you're doing, if you're painting or sculpting or whatever, buy some cheap tools. Since you're writing I would just get some of those pens that are 10 for a dollar, a $1 notebook, and that's all you need. The point is this stuff is essentially disposable. I write using documents in my phone, so what I do is just open a new document that is essentially disposable and I won't mind if I delete it. Maybe you're right on a laptop. Start a new document. Call it brainstorm document one or something. Don't go to a lot of trouble.
Sit down somewhere where you're not being disturbed. This doesn't work for me in public places because I get distracted, but if you write in coffee shops all the time that might work for you. It's up to you. Just do whatever you normally do. I tried rain noise for a while for writing but it doesn't do anything for me so I don't use it anymore. Put yourself in your normal conditions for writing because you're going to write.
Now. I don't know if you've ever tried mindfulness meditation, but one thing you learn very quickly is that it's almost impossible to stop yourself from thinking. You're constantly being distracted by things all the time. That's kind of what mindfulness meditation is: you think about one thing, like your breath, you concentrate on that, you get distracted and your mind wanders, you go back to thinking about your breath. You'll think oh, my mind wanders, I'm bad at this, but that's just another thought. It's okay. Go back to thinking about your breath.
What we're going to do is kind of like that, but we want the thoughts; we're going to harness those random thoughts. At this point you have to let go of the idea that you're trying to do good writing. The task is not to turn out quality prose. You're about to write some garbage, and in the end you'll look at it and think wow, this is garbage, but (and I can't stress this enough) THAT'S PART OF THE ASSIGNMENT. If you discover that what you've written is crap, congratulations, you did the thing you set out to do. You should feel good. You should feel proud of yourself.
So start writing. You're not trying to write a finished product, you're trying to write the thought that you're currently having. And yes, you are having a thought. Could be "well this is stupid and won't work". That's perfectly fine. Articulated poorly? Bad spelling? Bad penmanship? Doesn't matter. Just get it down. Get it out of your head on to the page. That will lead to another thought. This is very abstract and stream of consciousness, kind of like "this is stupid. Oh well ... at least I'm writing something. Yeah but it's crap that nobody will want to read. But at least I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing." Nobody wants to read that. But THAT'S OKAY. You're not writing in the sense of your usual writing, this is an exercise intended to defeat writer's block.
Literally just write down whatever comes into your head all the time. Do your best to write as fast as you can and keep up with your own thoughts. If you want to go back and change something, go ahead, but if you get an idea about making that change, stick it at the end and keep writing. ("Shouldn't have put in that bit about [thing]; that was completely extraneous.") It's not about creating a final product, it's about the process. When you lift weights, you don't need those weights to be higher up in the air, you just need to lift them over and over again, and that's what we're doing here. When you run, you aren't going somewhere, you're trying to make yourself more physically fit. You're trying to be a better runner. That's what we're doing, but for writing.
Anyway, just keep doing this. Do it for like an hour without stopping. I know that seems crazy, but go ahead. Write crap. Try to think about whatever you're trying to write about, but it's not essential and can be counterproductive. If you're stuck on what this one character would really do, maybe think about it and write about how you're stuck on what they would do. Then write about the character, whatever. Whatever your normal thought process is. You're literally writing down your thoughts here, not the final end stage product of what you're writing will look like. This is super important! It's a massive distinction.
At 1 hour, or some predetermined period of time, or whenever you just feel like stopping after you've gone for "a really long time," stop and take a break. Get a cup of tea or do a shot or whatever it is that you do. Fix yourself a glass of organic free-range water, whatever "a break" is for you.
Then sit back down with your cup of coffee or whatever it is and just read what you wrote. "Wow, this is garbage." Congratulations! You have fulfilled the assignment and written exactly what you were supposed to write! Good job.
Not just anybody can write, but you know what anybody can do? Anybody can criticize. Anybody can edit.
So comb through those turds looking for diamonds. Review everything you wrote and see if there are any sentences that grab your eye, any basic ideas about future work, any decision that you've made about something that you want to take on board. Go ahead and extract everything you can; don't worry if there's not much there. Edit, fix, move sentences around, correct grammar and punctuation if you want, like if it's worth it for whatever piece of prose you're looking at, copy stuff out of this brainstorming document and put it in a real document if that's what you want to do. Up to you.
Quick note: if you suddenly stop being blocked, and you decide to switch over to one of your real documents and keep writing there, that's perfectly fine. That's the whole point we're after here, after all.
Anyway, if you do that first hour or period of time or whatever and it worked, great; if it didn't work, just keep doing it. This is the power drill that's spinning the motor trying to get it started.
I have a theory as to how this works: some human beings, namely writers, literally just have exported some of their thought process onto the page. You think by writing, to some degree. That way, by writing, you will help your own thoughts move forward.
Anyway, this always works 100% of the time for me, although I haven't tried it with sketching or painting or whatever, only writing, because that's what I do. Even if you don't write anything for publication ever in your entire life, this is an incredibly rewarding process which I would recommend to anybody who is interested in being creative.
Good luck, and I hope it works out and you can get out of your writer's block this way. I can't guarantee this will work in 1 hour or even today, but it always works for me eventually. Just keep spinning that motor and it will start eventually.
Happy writing
thank you so much for this note and taking your time writing this. this actually motivated me to write almost a chapter today when I haven't written for over a year (my characters are weeping in thanks). if ever in the future I'm in desperate need of motivation I'm going to come back to this. happy writing to you, as well ₊˚✩彡

Jb and reader's relationship steps. Like moving together or something. Thank you x
thank you so much for the request!!
moving in together
You looked at your tiny apartment. It looked sad all empty and desolate, probably because it was sad. You had lived in that apartment for two years and fortunately had been able to save a good amount of money as the rent wasn’t that high. It had been an okay starter apartment as you really got roots down in Nashville and got going with your career. It had also caused soooo many little nuisances like when the whole apartment building got infested with rats. You shuddered at the thought and then jumped again when you felt arms around your waist.
“You sayin your goodbyes?” Your girlfriend, Julien teased.
You reciprocated the teasing “yeah I’m having second thoughts I love this place too much.”
She laughed and grabbed your final box for you with one hand and grabbed your hand with her other. “I’m so happy.” She says simply, the short words were enough, what else could either of you say, there would never be enough words to describe the feeling of contentness you felt right now. You two after having a conversation on your 2.5 year anniversary had decided to start the process of moving in together.
Immediately the option of you guys moving into your old apartment was quickly struck down by you both. Julien also felt like moving into her apartment wouldn’t make you feel like it was completely “yours” too and she didn’t want that. So the decision was decided you two would hunt for a place and eventually as if a sign from the universe a cute, spacious place on music row opened up. You saw the look in your girlfriend’s eyes when she saw it and you knew you were saying yes. You two both had been working hard, saving etc etc and finally the day came when it was time to move in. You throw the last box into her red pick up truck. “Alright baby” she grins opening the passenger door.
She drives to the apartment both of you with massive grins on your faces. When you finally get there she pulls into a parking garage and you two meet the realtor who had sold it to you.
“Hi you guys I’m happy to see you two on such a big day for you guys.” The realtor smiles holding the keys among a couple other things.
You two get the remaining paper work all finished outside the building because Julien “didn’t want the first time we walk into the apartment when it’s truly ours to be spoiled by paperwork.”
Finally the realtor left with a wave and you two sprinted up the steps of the building, up two flights of stairs and down the hallway.
Of course you had visited the apartment but it was different now.
“3,2,1” you swung open the door.
You guys walked around it as if you had never been in there before.
“Wow the shower’s more perfect than I remember it.” You mention, truthfully you had no clue what made a shower good or bad but it was like the one piece of “furniture” In the apartment so it was perfect.
“Our shower is perfect” Julien modifies with a smirk.
The next hour was spent with you guys just sitting on the floor of the apartment talking. Talking about plans and ideas for the place, admiring eachother.
“Oh shit the stuff” you laugh realizing it was 5 pm and you probably shouldn’t leave a pickup truck with your guys’s stuff outside like that.
You guys bring a couple boxes up. You bite your lip whenever you catch her lifting the heavy boxes up the stairs.
“Hm see somethin you like?” She teases.
“Yeah that box is so sexy.” You laugh.
You both are exhausted when most of the things are up. You find a box with your clothes and change into more comfy ones.
“We gotta go to CVS” you mention with a smile.
“Why?” She says confused.
“To get like an air mattress and dinner.” You yawn resting your head on her.
She kisses your temple “you’re right. Want me to go and you can chill here?”
“No no I want to go with you.”
You guys go to the CVS that’s pretty close by and buy a pump, air mattress, some random pillows and the most random things for dinner.
As you take turns pumping it up, and then collapse down on it also using it as your guy’s table, you had never felt happier.
“I’m beyond lucky.” You say “I love you so much Julien you are the perfect partner for me.”
“im the lucky one, you’ve filled something inside of me I had thought was dead years ago.”
You guys both are exhausted and just collapse down onto the mattress.
You cuddle up to her and she rests her face in the crook of your neck.
“Some furniture shopping tomorrow?” You ask.
“Yes definitely.” She responds into your skin leaving a soft kiss there.
She then looks more directly at you with a shit eating grin “wanna know what else we can do tomorrow.”
“What?” You say groggily.
“Christen this place.”
“Ewww baby” you laugh hitting her with one of the pillows.
She smiles and cuddles back up to you “there’s no one else I’d rather start this chapter of life with I love you.”
“I love you too.”

My asks are currently on!
My anonymous asks are currently turned off!
Currently on hiatus? No
Salutations! Welcome to the RP blog of @questingbeastofaveyron, @floofgryph, @thesilliestrovingalive, and @odysseyofmoods! After taking a break from roleplaying due to a personal conflict with a former friend and RP partner, I've decided to return. When I was active, all of my past roleplays felt dull and uninspiring. During that time, stepping away from something I was originally passionate about was the best decision I made. I'm thrilled to announce that I'm officially back in the world of roleplaying!
If you want to know more about me, please read this introductory post on my main blog.
Please do not send me asks for donations
Very serious notice
In regards to asks...
If you want to send a RP starter or a question and/or something for my characters to answer and react to, please send them here.
If you want to start a random conversation with me or send random stuff like personal questions and memes, please send them to @floofgryph.
If you want to send questions about Metal Slug or my Metal Slug AU, please send them to @thesilliestrovingalive.
If you want to send questions about my work overall or send me a little something that couldn't spark much discussion like a positive message, please send them to @questingbeastofaveyron.
If you want a moodboard, please send your request to @odysseyofmoods.
Rules
Before you submit a RP starter or try to plan one out with me, please take a moment to review the guidelines for this blog:
Basics
This blog is 14+! However, I realistically prefer if you're 16 and over, but I'm trying to be lenient.
This blog is mainly SFW. As a young adult, I'm comfortable with exploring mature themes, but I prefer subtle hints and suggestive stuff over full-on explicit content when it comes to sexual topics. If we both plan to explore a heavy topic (e.g. self-harm), I'll try my best to remember to include content warnings. I'm open to NSFW roleplays (with 18+ roleplayers obviously), but I'll only do it in private with individuals I trust and feel comfortable with.
I'm personally fine with swearing, but if you're uncomfortable with profanity, please let me know. I'll make an effort to try to avoid it or censor it, even in character.
When roleplaying, I may express character traits that differ from my real life views (e.g. a character that has a habit of spewing racist and misogynistic things). I'll provide advance notice, but if I forget and I inadvertently offend you, please let me know so I can adjust my response. Note that character portrayals don't reflect my personal beliefs.
I'm open to both fandom and fandomless RP blogs, but I lean towards original settings since my fandom knowledge is limited.
I appreciate medium-length responses because they give me ample room to develop my next reply. I'm okay with shorter responses, but it depends on the circumstances. Occasionally, longer responses are welcome too.
I prefer to move at my own pace, so please don't rush me to respond immediately.
I prefer to write in my own style, so please don't ask me to change it to match yours.
You're welcome to ask questions or share your thoughts directly with the characters I RP as. I'll respond in-character to whatever is on your mind!
I prefer planning a RP first, but I'll occasionally let unexpected starters slide.
I prefer not to be tagged in RP events, but I may occasionally make an exception. However, please don't expect me to participate as there's a chance I might not.
If I inadvertently breach your RP rules or cause unintended discomfort, please let me know politely. I'll promptly apologise and adjust my response!
If I say something that triggers you or comes across as impatient or annoying, please let me know. I'm fairly patient, but there are times when I may not be, especially if I'm feeling frustrated and trying to get something done and over with.
If you breach any of these rules, I'll kindly address the issue. Repeated disregard for these guidelines will result in me permanently cutting ties with you.
I have Discord! So, if you're a Discord roleplayer, feel free to reach out.
Don'ts
Please don't inappropriately ship my characters (e.g. forcing an aroace character to go on a romantic date with a non-aroace character)!
Please don't gatekeep my characters!
Please refrain from removing or altering my characters' abilities without my permission.
Please don't godmod my characters, which means you can't control what they do. I prefer not to have my characters forcefully controlled, including mind control, because it limits my creative freedom. However, I'm willing to make exceptions if we plan and agree on such scenarios in advance.
Please refrain from putting my characters in stressful or uncomfortable situations without my consent.
Please avoid referencing other roleplays I wasn't involved in, unless there's a compelling narrative reason that we've discussed in private.
Please don't ask me to create RP events because it stresses me out!
Don't ask questions directed to all of my characters. If you do, I'll only give you simple mod responses.
Extra
I'm open to participating in group roleplays! To get started, we'll have to plan out the details, decide on a scenario, and determine the order of play.
I'm comfortable roleplaying multiple muses, but I prefer to limit it to 5 characters. Exceeding this number may impact my energy and ability to keep track of each character.
I'm still overcoming the lingering effects of a language delay. Please bear with me if I struggle with sentence structure or misinterpret your words.
I'm not typically interested in magic anons or stuff like that. However, I'm willing to consider scenarios where one or more of my characters are transformed into children, animals (e.g. lemur) or mythical creatures (e.g. harpy) for a short period of time. I don't mind exploring other types of magic anons like obsession or sickness, but we need to discuss about it in private first.
I'm completely fine with shipping, but please ask for my permission first. Also, please ensure that my character isn't already in a canonical relationship or isn't inclined towards romantic relationships.
I want to mention that the word "boop" makes me somewhat uncomfortable because it reminds me of someone I'd rather forget. Additionally, some of my characters have experienced trauma related to physical touch without consent. Please ask permission before initiating physical contact between our characters. Include context for why your character would touch my characters (e.g. they don't understand personal boundaries or they're trying to get their attention).
I don't feel comfortable transforming my fandom-specific OCs into fandomless ones as it feels disrespectful to what I originally created. It can also be challenging to make that kind of change with certain OCs. Additionally, I prefer not to create new OCs solely for specific roleplays.
I may add more rules in the future, but this is all you need to know for the time being.
Worlds
For the foreseeable future, I'll be focusing exclusively on roleplaying as reworked characters and OCs from my Metal Slug AU that I've completed so far. Feel free to ask questions because I know the series may be unfamiliar to some.
During our RP, if I make any major changes to my reworked characters or OCs that could impact the storyline, I'll notify you promptly to avoid confusion. Please note that I haven't gotten around to fully working on the main timeline of my Metal Slug AU and there's a lot of extra information I haven't posted for reasons.
Very shortened info of the available roleplayable characters:
Available OCs from Iron Eclipse vol. 1
Available reworked characters from Iron Eclipse vol. 1
Available reworked characters from Iron Eclipse vol. 2
For full-on information about the characters and other stuff, please visit:
Roleplays
Character answers and reactions to various questions and actions (+ mod responses)
That's everything! I'm thrilled to start roleplaying with y'all. My DMs are always open, and asks are welcome!

「 IL CAPITANO 」

Greetings! I'm Vali and this is an indie roleplay account for Il Capitano, from the game Genshin Impact.
In my portrayal of him i take into consideration my personal headcanons, as well as canon lore for the character.
That being said, welcome! Should you feel interested in rping with me, please send an ask! Check my meme tag, or message me to plot something. I'm friendly, i promise!
Here's some navigational tags, and there's more information under the cut.
Happy writing!
CHAR. BASICS, SOLOS,
CHAR. STUDY, MEMES,
art credits: xxxx
𝐖𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐑 ;; ⠀⠀⠀the writer is called Vali. uses he/him pronouns and is +21 y/o. english isn't my mother language so please, bear that in mind.
friendly but a bit selective. IMs open to plotting and chatting. i accept asks/memes at any time.
i will write with people outside my comfort zone, and might attempt to write with non-mutuals too. i encourage you to do the same to me! i love random asks&starters.
𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐘 ;;⠀⠀ activity might be sporadic, seeing as the writer tends to get distracted easily and might hyperfocus on specific things at a time.
𝐃𝐍𝐈 ;;⠀⠀do not interact if you're a non-rp account, or if you condone racism of any kind, homophobia, transphobia, pedophilia, misogyny, ableism, etc. i won't interact with pro-shippers.
𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐒 ;;⠀⠀this account will have content such as mentions of violence, foul language, suggestive themes, blood, death, manipulation, etc.

HAPPY FEBRUARY !
January was pretty much the longest month in existence, and no one is going to argue that! But we've made it through and we're moving on to February now. We'd love to see this month be a month of regrowth and getting back on track with activity, really vibing with the community feel, and enjoying ourselves on dash. It is, after all, the season of love!
ON THE CALENDAR !
February 7 -- Wear Red Day -- mini event. post a social of your character / face claim wearing red to spread awareness for heart health.
February 8-23 -- Season of Love -- READ MORE HERE.
February 9 -- Super Bowl Sunday -- mini event. taking place at Touchback, come watch the Super Bowl, eat good food, drink good beer & enjoy!
February 17 -- Random Acts of Kindness Day -- mini event. do something kind for someone else today, make it random and make it special!
IMPORTANT STUFF !
no major changes to the rules this month. still, it's a good idea to read over them and make sure you're familiar!
as I mentioned OOC, I will be tightening up on activity. January was a rough month... but let's take February as our fresh start.
tasks are back this month! you can check it out here, and participate any time in the month of February!
AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT !
open starters could use a little bit of love moving forward. we noticed a decline in replies to the ones made recently & just want to nip this in the bud.
as usual, be mindful that you are using the correct trigger warnings on things, in the format of "trigger tw" so that people can blacklist if they need to. it's just easier.
at the risk of being a broken record, just do good. branch out to write with everyone, don't keep people waiting too long, speak kindly to one another, include everyone, you know the drill by now.
A WORD FROM THE MOD !
The thing about any good group is that it's never on one person to make it that way. It's not on me, as admin, any more than it is on you, as player. It's on all of us to come together and create the space that we want to see thrive and grow and the space that we are comfortable in. Be responsible with your presence in the group. Mind where you are at with activity and do what you need to do to be not just within the rules (although this is certainly important, too!), but an active, participating writer in the group. Know that how you choose to reply to threads (or not!) will set the groundwork for how others choose to plot and interact with you moving forward. I will always do what I can to create a safe, happy space for people to write, to provide things like plot calls and roulettes to make interactions easier, come up with tasks, man the ship, so to speak, but it is on all of us as a collective, collaborative unit to make the group a great (and active!) place to be. xx
HAVE A GREAT FEBRUARY !

@apurekindness gets a random starter
This was dangerous territory, his heart is too broken to seek out anything other than healing. But isn't healing tied to a generous smile and a laugh he enjoys bringing out of her? Or is it a woman's almond eyes looking at him in wonder out to the planets in the infinite sky? That hair that gleams like sunlight and the way his pain seemingly vanishes at her touch. Or the thrill of a tentative hand hold, the first of many stolen little moments and feeling the blush on his cheeks mirror hers.
His heart is torn two ways. Even now as he's hiding out on the roof of the hospital, looking up at the stars. Looking up at her, wondering what almost was...but never became. He has no way of knowing what he wants in this vulnerability. Sniffing back tears, he stuffs his hands into the pocket of his sweatshirt, everything newly removed feeling raw and uncomfortably new.
He hears the door open and is ready to defend himself with a brazen I'm not jumping...but it doesn't spill past his lips. Instead, he does nothing but gaze up at the flickering stars, begging for their warmth.
#earlier on in their timeline#just cause he's feeling it and wouldn't let me not lol#idk why he wanted this but i'm so sorry#Q#♡ – i am all yours and you are all mine {apurekindness - closed}

how are you so good at writing??? genuine question tho like what is your writing process or do you have any advice for someone trying to get more into/better at writing fiction?
hi anon!! thank you, this is so so sweet :3 i wouldn’t consider myself like. an authority on writing and i definitely think i have a lot to improve on, but here’s some advice i can offer up!
my general process for my oneshots is maybe unconventional? but it works for me.
a basic premise. eg, “oh, i want to write a caldre vibrator fic. how the hell is that going to work?” and figuring out how to get from point A to point B.
this is random, but it helps me keep track. at the top of all of my fics, i write this:
TITLE:
DESCRIPTION:
TAGS:
NOTES:
the title is usually left blank for a while. but the description is an incredibly short summary of the fic’s contents. tags helps me plan in advance for posting. the notes is just anything additional about their dynamic that i want to remind myself of. i find this really helpful to check back on every now and then.
bullet pointing key scenes of the fic. helps to have a writing buddy who can help you troubleshoot or bounce ideas off of!
under each bullet point, i write the scene out like a script, adding in notes about body language or general actions. i also copy paste in any little excerpts that come to me!
i find this the biggest step in avoiding writers block: blocking the entire scene helps keep the flow uninterrupted, helps me establish a pace, and helps to establish a strong tone in dialogue that i can then follow through in action and description. worst case scenario, i can just jump into the next line of dialogue and come back to fill in the gaps.
working top-down, i follow my script and fill in the gaps with action and description! this is obviously the hardest and lengthiest part, but that’s just the truth of it. i stick on some music or a video essay in the background and get to writing!
i usually end up working the start around, restructuring paragraphs until i find a flow.
Some general advice:
write what you enjoy. nothing will burn you out faster than trying to please everyone. it doesn’t matter if it’s cringe, or ooc, or whatever you think. write it if it makes you happy.
READ MORE - and REAL BOOKS (and poetry!). seriously. i notice the fastest improvement in my writing when i’m reading regularly. look at books you enjoy and ask: why do i like this? is it the themes, the characters? is it the writing style - the rhythm, dialogue, pacing? connecting with literature and developing analytical skills will seriously help so much. look at what you like and mirror it.
back to basics. especially with longer form stuff - use classic structures like three acts, freytag’s pyramid, etc. they are classics for a reason! learn the rules so you can know how to effectively break them. consider metaphors, flow, phonetics.
also, basic grammar and structure is non negotiable - walls of text or lack of punctuation will turn anyone off no matter how good the content is. i understand english isn’t everyone’s native language, but even a basic run through a spell or grammar checker online can make a world of difference.
on a more technical level:
variety is KEY. vary sentence length to keep a tight control over pacing, to control flow. read your sentences out loud to find the rhythm. try to keep from using the same structures or starters. sometimes i have to pull up another book to remind myself of different ways to open sentences when i’ve been staring at my writing for too long, lol
balancing description with succinctness is trial and error. IMO it’s better to be sparing than excessive. “purple prose” is hard to keep track of, and can feel like padding to a story. pacing is always, always key. remember, you CAN part with things: copy and paste little excerpts into a spare document. learn to delete!
understand the impact of intentional word choice. i love punchy verbs over wordy adverbials! but i also prefer to use descriptive phrases over niche words that readers won’t know. it’s about balance: complex language has its place, but using it intentionally is key. get a feel for a word’s nuance, otherwise your work can feel like Baby’s First Thesaurus. also, NEVER underestimate the impact of PHONETICS!!!
