My very definitely insane but perhaps accurate theory on Samuel (né William) Mulder's paternity.

okay so we know from the first ep in s6 that humanity has some latent alien DNA, and some people have that DNA activated? turned on? idk ykwim. Think gibson and that stigmata boy from air bud. My theory on mulder and scully is as follows:

Mulder has latent alien dna stronger than most people.

Scully (and her family possibly just the female members) has latent alien dna stronger than most people and also mulder.

Mulder's symptoms: he has a BA in psych from Oxford but his intuition on the causes of cases and perp motivations and [] are almost certainly due to the fact he has a connection with them, in some way mind reading adjacent. Like he gets a feeling in his stomach about what the situation is and goes with what he and scully would call intuition. there are plenty of funny as hell memes on this site about this. So it follows easily that when his DNA gets activated he is overwhelmed by everyones thoughts, Buffy Summers in Earshot style.

Scully's symptoms: she sees dead people... lol but honestly she sees her dad in season 1, she sees the dead multiple times in Elegy and it's not an omen of death bc she lived. She sees her daughter multiple times. She also sees a legit angel, and a demon or devil however you want to look at it, and I would argue an alien spirit? (old dude in amor fati) who maybe has been on earth waiting for the "chosen one" since his space ship landed in the garden of eden... (lol thats my most favorite of all my unhinged head canons)

Maggie: she has prophetic dreams or feelings about things that are going wrong

Missy: girl is straight up tied into other realities and knows it and embraces it. I find it such good characterisation how her family treats this, that scully is shown to be scared of this and completely ignores the fact she is also tied into this ability.

My unorthodox theory is that CSM had nothing to do with healing scully. Or magically giving her ovum out of nothing. En ami could technically be lifted right out, bc ew assault, or just disregard or believe csm was lying about the extra stuff cc retconned in the revival.

Enter the alien spaceship in cote d'ivore from the amor fati trilogy...

so Mulder touched an etching of a part of the ship and had his shit rocked (alien DNA activated) which begs the question, what would happen to Scully being that she actually touched the actual ship?

my theory? The ship has some sort of mystical power. If I was super spiritual or Melissa Scully id argue the ship gives what you deserve. In amor fati we see it bring back to life a bag of shrimps, zombify a dead man, and boil people like ocean soup.

Why then would we not assume scully touching the ship didn’t activate her very obvious not really latent, alien DNA? And what did she deserve? oh the world, but also to be healed. of cancer, and whatever those men did to her reproductive system.

Now you might say well mulder got superpowers but scully didnt? you said she was more powerful than mulder... and to that dear reader, I submit she did get an extra alien ability. We see the alien bounty hunter have all kinds of abilities, including healing mulders mother on her deathbed. I think Scully got that ability in addition to her old seeing ghosts thing.

The evidence? So, mulder on his deathbed, metal halo of faux thorns is dying of overactive alien abilities, his brain juices or something were transferred into that weird old man, but even I, a layman has trouble understanding how this would cure him of his overactive alien abilities. unless every bit of his Cerebrospinal fluid had been drained, which he'd actually probably just die, there is no way that surgery cured him of anything.

Enter Scully and the literal fairytale-esque tear on his face that wakes him from his sleeping-beauty slumber, and seemingly cures him all in one go. I posit Scully is now a healer on top of her ghostly abilities. but being terrified of the paranormal within her and possibly not knowing how to work them mulder is her only one, thus far.

So yeah, the ship cured her infertility and activated more latent alien abilities in her DNA, and she's so highly evolved she doesn't have the poor reaction to it that mulder does. Samuel Mulder or whatever you want to call him was their biological child with alien superpowers because both of them had activated alien abilities when they conceived him.

Anyway CSM has never been anything but pathetically inconsequential to me. So much so I think hes the one who is infertile. I could probably rant about it, but will spare you that for now... all I'll say is senator matheson is who mulders dad will always be to me. They look SO similar, the jawlines? Hello?

S1E10: Fallen Angel

Case: A meteor crashes outside of Townsend, Wisconsin. Or maybe it was a downed Libyan fighter jet. Or maaaaybe it was a... dun dun... UFO? (It was a UFO)(Probably) Mulder goes to investigate without clearance, a plan, or his partner/carrier of his only brain cell, and ends up captured, leading to Scully picking him up from jail for the second time in five episodes. Before that, though, he meets Max—a nomadic UFO fanatic who may be suffering from psychosis or possibly the effects of being repeatedly abducted without his knowledge, and is the only part of this episode I care about. Mulder wants to prove the crash was a UFO before the government erases all the evidence, meanwhile Scully wants desperately for Mulder not to lose his fucking job. Will things all work out in the end? (no) Will they get the answers they seek? (also no) And will the audience be any closer to unraveling the mystery being spun? (absolutely not)

Does someone die in the cold open: Yes. All we see, as the man screams in agony while losing his life, is a giant flash of light, leaving me to assume that he was killed by the LED headlights on some asshole's pickup truck.

Does Mulder present a slideshow: No, this was one of those "my informant sent me here with very little context and I kind of just do whatever I'm told bc at this point I'm desperate for any crumb of information" episodes.

Does the evidence survive the investigation: There never was any evidence, and if you don't want to be sent to the reeducation center in Area 51 you'll agree with me.

Whodunit: -vague gesturing toward the government or mb aliens-

Convictions: I'm pretty sure Mulder had to have broken at least a couple laws, not just Bureau policy, and technically he was arrested, but afaik he wasn't charged with anything, so. Nah.

Did they solve it: No, but they leveled up in experience points and added Max to their inventory.

HELLO THERE I JUST FINISHED READING UR OP DANNY TAG AND YOOO IM REELING but also I was thinking a lot about blood blossoms and I feel like even Danny wouldn’t be able to get used to it or overcome it as a physical weakness bc to me the blossoms read like deadly poison and that’s not something you can stop your body from reacting to unless you tried introducing it to the body little by little? But even then his human body can probably only take so much poison/ pain if he did wanna try to make himself immune that way. Too much and it could probs kill him since his dna is literally merged with ectoplasm. How did Vlad react to it cuz I can’t remember? But w vlad it’s different cuz he is like a human with ghost powers to me unlike Danny who is completely half ghost. But like imagine if a villain or jealous hero tried using it against him? The angst, the betrayal Danny would feel 😭 or what if he did get controlled by someone (loki? Idk) and the avengers or justice league are like all grim and somber and “we have no choice” THE ANGST

oh yeah I remember covering blood blossoms, it was kinda handwaved away with the 'what if he had a tolerance for them' hypothetical just to fit with the op danny concept and add that extra oomph to him realising he has no real weaknesses

but I'm down to clown let's talk about this

iirc Vlad didn't react to the blood blossoms because I don't think he actually came in contact with them, and even if Vlad's status as a halfa is different to Danny's, they would probably still affect him like they would any ghost, in that ep he just managed to stay away at a safe distance... I think, like I said I ALSO don't remember what happened in that ep

it IS important to mention that blood blossoms are entirely edible to humans, which would likely give Danny (and Vlad) a naturally higher tolerance for them than a ghost would, which theoretically could mean that they could grow a stronger tolerance to them with small amounts of exposure because unlike regular ghosts, they wouldn't be immediately destabilised from them

this would have to be done slowly and deliberately though

another interesting point is that blood blossoms are never used in the show's modern day, Jack and Maddie never use it or mention it for their research or weapons, leading to a couple possible conclusions

1. they're extinct in the wild (with only a handful being grown in captivity somewhere just to make things interesting)

2. their history of being used as a ghost hunting weapon was lost or never recorded so very very few people know about them other than maybe a handful of really oldschool ghost hunters

3. Maddie and Jack have heard about them but consider them archaic and impractical compared to their own weaponry, because they've never gotten their hands on any to test (but eventually they could ooooh)

technically you could even combine all three scenarios if you work the details just right, an oldschool ghost hunter could be the last one growing them, but no modern ghost hunters take them seriously because 'you still use salt dude come on catch up'

I also really like the idea of Sam nabbing a few flowers from their time in Salem (or maybe some seed pods get stuck to Tucker's clothes) and taking them home to grow, just in case they could use them for something in an emergency, that could be how they get the idea for Danny to develop a tolerance for them so if they have to use them against another ghost, Danny won't be affected

this is just making me think of all the artwork I've seen of Danny wearing a blood blossom crown but like, holy shit think about that, he grows an eventual immunity and can just wear them on his head what a fucking power move

In your own mind what would be your ideal dirkjake reunion/conclusion with the concepts the epilogues gave us with ult dirk? Not really how you anticipate the team to actually end it bc that doesn’t matter, but fan content wise of how dirk and jake would end up resolving things?

Anon this question is as broad as the ocean for me, technically speaking I don't think there is only "one right way" to write a reunion/conclusion/rekindling of their relationship. It's not even smth I worry a lot over, the charm to me is in the possibility. I'm not very precious or stingy with this!

I think a lot of the fandom would similarly benefit from detaching themselves of the idea that there is "a true end in the works"- that's not what postcanon is. It's called dubious for a reason.

There's so many options on what to approach/how to approach it that if i focused onto an "ideal one" id just end up writing a singular fanfic scenario that is unlikely to cover all the bases, and attempting to do so might not even turn out to be the most interesting path just for the sake of dreaming up a "correct end" that might not ever exist. I mean, I don't even think DJMK is the definitive vision I have of anything, merely an exploration worth doing.

For example, when you say "concepts like ultdirk" do you mean a direct continuation of the epilogues? Of hs2? Something pre-eps? Something that forges its own postcanon altogether and just happens to have ultselves in it? All of these starting points sound good to me, and each of them provides the writer interesting building blocks. Dubious Canon being what it is, I'm far more interested on what can be created from it rather than where that singular specific timeline is going. I enjoy reading different takes on it, or takes that don’t stick to it at all.

Like, just listing off random points of interest: What if jake didn't stay on earth C when everybody left? What do all those brain ghost dirks suddenly popping next to jakes have to do with dirk's mental state? What if dirk just said he was going through a brain-shattering ascension process waaay earlier? What if earth C wasn't a dead as hell planet from the start? What if the culture in it was different? What if it wasn't a facsimile of our timeframe, what if the kids ended up in the past/future? What if more characters were going through the ultimate waterslider? What even happened with all those alphas that banished caliborn and got left in the void lmao??? What if rumble in da pumpkin patch got cancelled after the debut? What if it never got made? What if jake's alcoholism didn't get downplayed by everybody? What if vriska was there and she ran towards you at startling speeds? What if dirk got cucked out of the ultimate party and jake unlocked that weird as hell backstory instead? Wha(This list goes on endlessly)

ur completely valid icha, but also from the studio standpoint sometimes they just have to shift things around a little to make them fit nicely into like a 24mins ish episode. Aside from the fillers it's actually a pretty faithful adaptation of the manga I think? Personally I like the anime a lot because it gives a lot of insights on how things looks in movements, and also without it we won't have the iconic tracks such as lala's lullaby and the 14th song :')

I mean i understand why they did this, i just know i’m too much of a mangasnob for that ahah, but then again if i wanted a 100%, frame by frame adaptation of the manga, i’d read the manga. Anime is its own medium and it has to work in some way, i can’t blame them for that.

When it adapts the manga, it is honestly very good (i still have chills from the Allen’s death scene in the anime they nailed it), and it’s also what i’m kiinda vaguing about with how i prefer 06 to Hallow despites it’s filler, bc i feel like it did a better job with the original work in itself.

Like i’m mentioning they moved around the Mana’s flashbacks, that’s a Decision for sure but i understand where it comes from (wanting to start the anime more quickly and all) and meanwhile, it’s technically a scene that could happen anytime. Its absence isn’t too bad, at least, imo, as long as they put it before Allen meets Road (since it’s where his relationship to the Noah actually begin so he must have had the meeting with the Earl before). So, that still gives them time. I’d be upset if it was set after meeting Road tho.

On the other hand in Hallow they also moved things around and i’m less forgiving bc it changes the tones of some scenes. What I mean specifically is putting Kanda and Allen’s bickering from the chess ghost mission before the reveals with Cross - since in the manga that scene was supposed to be heavy because earlier on Allen asked them to kill him if he steps out of line. I think it’s even alluded to in the manga that Kanda and Allen had been getting tenser since it happened, thus leading to that bickering. So putting it before what made it tense was an adaptation problem imo.

which is why i said i still prefer 06 to Hallow  in general but then again, even Hallow was trying it’s best. And it is interesting to see how the scenes works in motions. 

06 kinda have hit or miss fillers and i have my own personal grips with them. like technically i love the idea of giving more scenes to say, Lullubel and the Jasdebi with their arcs, on the other hand, there were a few mischaracterization mishaps, but my biggest issue is what it does to the pacing sometimes. The Lullubel’s arc works okayish i think bc it’s set in a timeline that makes it more or less work for exemple, ie when they’re already in China looking for Anita (i’m not fan of the exorcists characterization in this arc but i am glad to have an insight on Lullubel that is kinda interesting). But others fillers eventually, like Krory having the time to go back to the Order when he was recruited, while funny, lessen a bit of Krory’s arc since poor guy litteraly was thrown in the war right away and didn’t get to know the Order at all, which makes him the trigger of the zombie arc even more tragic imo.  (but well that’s... an arc neither anime had to bother about....)

but again i’m a mangasnob that’s just me, what i’m trying to say though is that there are interesting elements they’ve tried to do, and at least with 06 i think there are a few things we can take away from that are still great to experience. That i can see as Bonus to the story and... ignore the parts i disagree with eheh.

(although i will say that even if i get it was to get around the censores going on back then when exporting to America, i sTILL find the “cutting down as much religious imagery or mention as possible” to be bewildering. Like just rewatching ep one was hilarious bc of the length in which they completely removed the irony of the death of Moore’s sister bc they wanted to avoid said censore. The lack of mention of the Vatican or the Rosary Cross they wear too is super funny to me. I really hope this censore trend is gone nowadays but it is still the kind of reasons i see the anime as a bonus for manga readers than something someone should start on their own)

And for sure tho the soundtrack of DGM (both 06 and Hallow) are amazing. It’s the same compositor for both and it was an amazing job all around and i love the work poured in the songs.

Also the VAs are fantastic, both series, i say completely objectively for no reason whatsoever.

11. I do love both dogs and cats (and all other animals) but if I had to only choose one to have as a pet I’d go with a dog for sure!! They’re just,,,so pure,,,precious BABIES. My favorite dog breed is probably the samoyed! I love that they have those cute smiles. Just thinking about it makes my heart melt :’) But other than dogs, I had a phase where I was SUPER into pandas. I think part of it was that I identified with having really bad dark circles and always being tired LOL. Lowkey I still am obsessed with them but you can’t pet pandas soooooooo...

THIS EPISODE WAS SO GOOD it was just like one good scene after another so im gonna try to write down my thoughts in the order i think they came in

i was a little confused what happened to the animated sequence in the beginning of the ep -- it looks like nunyuninni (sp?) told atsula she’d have to sacrifice herself to ensure her people survived. and.... i think the implication is that they became cannnibals for food?????? did i totally misread that???

so laura isn’t just rotten, she’s literally decomposing. what happens to her... “consicence”? after that? like will “she” be more of a ghost, or will she leave with her body? also i’m not really sure i understand why she has super strength, i guess it’s the coin magic?

laura sees shadow as a bright light. i assumed it was because he’s like her north star after dying, since he inadvertently brought her back to life and it’s a bit like she’s haunting him but in a nice way, but then in her eyes, wednesday is also glowing? is it also a god thing? then why wouldn’t she see sweeney glowing?

wednesday can... talk to crows? ok i just looked it up on wikipedia and apparently odin did have crows that flew around the world and told him shit! interesting

wednesday paid sweeney to pick a fight with shadow to see what he was made of! (but then why did wednesday spin the coin back in ep1 on the table to determine the outcome anyway?)

mad sweeney is an idiot but that entire confrontation scene of him and laura fighting was hilarious and also fascinating. i love that he doesn’t even bother to learn her name and just calls her “dead wife”

everything about media is so well done, from her images to her performance to her references to the way she talks and manipulates and the way she thinks. and the way she and technical boy seem to work on a mutual understanding, even if they don’t agree (media and technology go hand in hand, i guess? also I LOVE THAT SHE USED HIS TECH AGAINST HIM it really drove the point home but also must’ve felt like a slap in the face lmao)

(wednesday also said something about mr. nancy in his long list of truthful exposition he rattled off to that cop but i didn’t catch it bc he spoke so fast)

that interrogation scene. crispin glover holy shit. im ngl i was a little confused why they would go for this performance for mr world of a guy who’s just like slightly off, just a little less than approachable, because as mr world shouldn’t he be charismatic? but then him rattling off facts about shadow and the salsa rant. holy shit. he doesn’t need to be charismatic to control the world, he just needs knowledge and power and markets and people to be their predictable selves!

it’s kinda chilling to remember that wednesday is also a god of war, but that scene with a fictionalized bombing north korea did it. like, he was never really a good guy, he was always a sleazy grifter, but sometimes i forget he was also a god that required -- and expected -- sacrifice in his name to be in blood.

“you take up their time. we gave them meaning.” this is such an interesting line and im still thinking about it tbh. i think it goes back to nunyuninni, even? maybe there’s something to be said about how people worshipped old gods because they provided gifts as early humans tried to make their way in the world, whereas now that we live in an over-stimulated mass-consumption corporate world we have things like technology to make our lives easier giving us more free time, we search for ways to fill the spare time instead

i’m not sure i understand why the new gods killed everyone in the police station. what do they gain from it, especially if they’re trying to convince wednesday to take the deal? a threat? a show of power? “if you wage war against us, this is what you’re up against”? if not, then what was the point of leaving the wood thing after them?
