I’ll flesh this out much more later and also this is not so much a headcanon as it is actual canon but still I just wanted to write it down real quick. Beast is very impulsive with his anger, his temper gets short and he lashes out, but he’s also extremely quick to regret. At the beginning of the movie every time he yells at belle there’s then a scene of him regretting it, of his head in his paws or something along those lines, immediately after. Never in front of her, but after the fact. Beast knows when he does wrong, and he wants to be better, it just takes him a while to figure out how.

But also on that same note of regret, and this part is headcanon and the part I need to flesh out more, beast would have eventually let Maurice go if Belle never came to the castle, it might have been a few days, but he would show remorse for locking him up and ( perhaps with a little persistence from Lumière ) would let him go free. In the same vein he probably would have let belle go sooner as well, but she runs off on her own before it gets to that point. and then of course when she returns having saved his life after he saves hers, there’s kind of this unspoken agreement that she really can leave at any time and it’s not until she talks about her father after they dance months later that beast actually tells her to go, at that point it’s much harder tho since there’s actual hope that she could be the one to break the spell, but also at that point he realizes he loves her and when you truly love someone . . . you let them go.

Some quick timeline headcanons

Beast is cursed somewhere between the ages of 10-13 I haven’t fully decided on where to pinpoint his age exactly but I know he was young because in be our guest lumiere says ‘ten years we’ve been rusting’ and maybe he’s rounding up, but for that to make sense beast needs to be a child at the start of the curse.

The last petal falls at the end of the movie, the last petal falls when beast turns 21, so beast has to be younger than that before that happens. Belle is either 17 or 18 when she comes to the castle, so I put beast at 19, maybe 19 and a half if we are being specific.

This means belle and beast were in the castle together for at least over a year.

Belle discovers the west wing pretty early on, in the movie it seems like its the very same day she takes her father’s place, but I have a slight divergence to this in that it takes a little longer, at least a week but maybe more. What follows when she discovers the west wing happens exactly the same, she runs away - beast saves her from the wolves thus saving her life, belle saves beast’s life by bringing him back to the castle, and their dynamic shifts as they start to respect one and other.

After the transformation, beast had to relearn how to do a lot of things, mainly walking on two legs. The beastly body he was transformed into is made up of parts of animals, animals that usually walk on all fours, naturally that’s what body forced him to do, so he had to relearn how to walk upright. It took him a couple months to be able to stay up for long periods of time, and after a year he could do it without thinking of it ( although it still requires some background concentration, but a very small amount ). He practiced outside and every time he fell, he would throw a bit of a fit, there are still numerous claw marks on trees from his days of practicing. It’s still far more comfortable for him to walk on all fours, and he’ll do it as seen in the movie when he is pacing ( overthinking/full of emotion, not able to concentrate even the slightest on staying upright ) or needs to get somewhere fast ( since it is far quicker, and running on only hind legs is extremely hard ), but he prefers to be upright because it makes him feel more human.

#( his front paws are that of a bears and his hind paws are those of a wolf #so naturally he should be walking on all fours all the time )#( like have you seen a dog try to walk on his hind paws? it takes a lot of practice and it's not an easy task )#( anyway this is just a quick something because I have to go do hw and I wanted to post something )#( he'll also do it to intimidate like he did with maurice #although I think that was also partially because he rushed over to find the source of the voice he was hearing #and then was too angry to force himself back on his hind paws/still needed to move quickly to take in the stranger in his castle )#( wow I hope this makes sense lol )#|| ┈┈ ❖ HEADCANON ⁽ ᵗʰᵃᶰᵏ ʸᵒᵘ ᶠᵒʳ ᶜᵒᵐᶤᶰᵍ ᵗᵒ ᵐʸ ᵀᴱᴰ ᵗᵃˡᵏ ⁾ ||

Beast likes to sit out in the garden and watch the birds. There’s a bird feeder thats been out there for as long as he can remember, and one of the few chores he actually does is refill it. He didn’t start doing it till a few months into the curse. At first he did it because he missed the birds and no one else could - it’s hard for most of the staff to do, as it hangs up in the air and most of them were transformed into very small objects and therefore can’t reach. But later it becomes routine, something he can do to feel useful, gives him the tiniest ounce of a purpose, and he silently enjoys it.

After every outburst, but not immediately after - usually after a few hours ( giving the beast time to calm down ), Mrs. Potts will come into the West Wing and pour the Beast some tea and talk to him. Mrs. Potts is very good at talking to him w/o making him upset again and he his very comfortable talking with her as she really is like a mother to him. Sometimes she’ll come in and just sit with him, and thats enough.

Beast really likes chocolate but hasn’t eaten it in years because one time early on in the curse some melted in his hands and got all over his fur and he struggled for hours to get it all off. He’s typically pretty messy when he eats as its a bit hard with paws ( and also his complete disregard of manners ) but when stuff starts getting really stuck to him he throws a bit of a fit. It only took a year or two for Chef Bouche to figure out through trial and error what’s best to serve, after that food related outburst were rare.
