An annual herbaceous plant that blooms all summer long. This flower is a great nectar source and attracts bees and bumblebees. Interestingly, by the end of summer, its blossoms change color from yellow to deep orange — a natural signal that the nectar is gone 🐝

Однолетнее травянистое растение, цветущее все лето. Данный цветок является хорошим медоносом и к нему любят слетаться пчелы и шмели. Интересно, что к концу лета цветы меняют оттенок с жёлтого на темно-оранжевый, тем самым предупреждая, что нектара больше нет🐝

Павлиноглазка цекропия (лат. Hyalophora cecropia) – самый крупный мотылек Северной Америки и один из самых ярко раскрашенных. Палитра оттенков, в которые окрашены эти обитательницы лесов и садов, напрямую зависит от температуры воздуха, при которой росли и развивались их личинки. Чем теплее стояли деньки, тем больше красных и бурых тонов можно увидеть на крылышках бабочки. В отличие от большинства павлиноглазок, на крыльях цекропий нет характерных для этого семейства маленьких полупрозрачных «окошек».

Жизнь взрослых павлиноглазок цекропий длится всего две недели и уходит на то, чтобы найти партнера, спариться и отложить яйца. Эти большие и яркие мотыльки созданы только для того, чтобы размножаться: у них полностью отсутствует пищеварительная система и нет ни малейших признаков рта или челюстей.

Массивные, с округлыми брюшками самки, чей размах крыльев достигает 160 мм, немного крупнее самцов, но не обладают такими роскошными антеннами, как их партнеры. Чтобы привлечь самца, самка выделяет феромоны, которые он способен уловить своими чувствительными антеннами даже на расстоянии полутора километров. Процесс спаривания у павлиноглазок цекропий длится целый день, от рассвета до заката. Спустя некоторое время самка откладывает около сотни светло-коричневых яиц на листьях кленов, берез или яблонь. Обычно в конце осени, пройдя четыре линьки, гусеницы цекропий, успевшие вырасти до 10-12 см, заворачиваются в кокон. В нем они окукливаются, проводят всю зиму и появляются на свет в первые теплые дни лета.

The life of adult Cecropia moths lasts only two weeks and is spent finding a partner, mating and laying eggs. These large and brightly colored moths are created only to reproduce: they have no digestive system at all and there is not the slightest sign of a mouth or jaws.

The massive, round-bellied females, whose wingspan reaches 160 mm, are slightly larger than the males, but do not have such luxurious antennae as their partners. To attract a male, the female secretes pheromones, which he can catch with his sensitive antennae even at a distance of one and a half kilometers. The mating process of cecropia moths lasts all day, from dawn to dusk. After some time, the female lays about a hundred light-brown eggs on the leaves of maples, birches or apple trees. Usually at the end of autumn, after four molts, cecropia caterpillars, which have managed to grow to 10-12 cm, wrap themselves in a cocoon. They pupate in it, spend the whole winter and emerge on the first warm days of summer.
