За допомогою ОАЕ вдалось визволити із полону деяких з оборонців "Азовсталі" та Маріуполя, ЧАЕС, острова Зміїного та з інших напрямків фронту.

Ukraine and Russia exchange nearly 500 prisoners of war

KYIV — Ukraine and Russia exchanged nearly 500 prisoners of war Wednesday — including Ukrainian service members taken prisoner during fighting at the Azovstal steel mill in Mariupol and Snake Island in the Black Sea — a sign that talks between Kyiv and Moscow continue, even as the two sides appear frozen in peace negotiations.

It was the largest trade since Russian forces invaded the country nearly two years ago, Ukraine’s coordinating headquarters for POW issues said in a post on Telegram. Officials from the United Arab Emirates helped mediate the process, Russian and Ukrainian officials said.

Ukrainian officials said that 230 of their service members returned home, while Russians said 248 of theirs had been released. Neither set of figures could be independently verified.

Russia's illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine began on 24 February 2024. One of Putin's early targets was the city of Mariupol (pre-invasion population: 425,681) on the shore of the Sea of Azov.

Ukrainian AP journalists were trapped in the city until they were able to escape. With the footage of their coverage of the Russian siege they created the documentary 20 Days In Mariupol.

A harrowing film exposes the brutality of Russia’s war in Ukraine

Mariupol, in particular, became a symbol of the brutality of Russia’s invasion — mostly through the work of a team of Ukrainian journalists from the Associated Press, who were the last international reporters left in the city. Together, they documented the Russian siege of Mariupol, a city otherwise cut off. Only a sliver of what those reporters captured was published at the time, but what did became some of the defining images of the early days of the Ukraine war — children killed in air strikes and pregnant women, covered in blood, evacuating a bombarded maternity hospital. Mstyslav Chernov, an AP videographer and member of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team, shot 30 hours of footage in Mariupol before he and his colleagues escaped the area through multiple Russian checkpoints. The result is the AP and Frontline documentary, 20 Days in Mariupol,which recounts, day by day, the story of a city under relentless bombardment. The film shows Mariupol’s unraveling, the chaos and confusion that consumes people when they’re isolated and trapped. It also shows how Mariupol survived, how its residents — angry, terrified, heartbroken, exhausted — adapted to almost unfathomable horror.

In 20 Days In Mariupol we see less than three weeks of Putin's attempted genocide of Ukraine – and in just one city. Russia's invasion is now in its 639th day; today marks a total of 21 months of Russian war crimes. Putin has intentionally targeted schools, hospitals, playgrounds, apartment buildings, and museums.

😡🌊 В річці Кальчик під Маріуполем загинуло все живе.

Не залишилось навіть жаб. Окупаційна влада дозволила скидати туди якісь дуже токсичні стоки. Раніше окупанти також перекривали русло річки, перетворюючи річку на струмок.
