today has been a total blur

it didn't really occur to you that you'd be quite literally beside your boss at all times through everything. so much that you're flying 10,000 feet in the sky on the way to jeju island for an alleged "work" trip— that wasn't even on his schedule.

as it turns out being the ceo of your own company also meant that he can impulsively take vacations out of his ass. you only found out through kun, on the way to the airport, that this trip was the very reason why your boss was absent during the meeting yesterday with his clients that you had to attend to in his place

now here you were in the beautiful island of jeju, seated at the backseat of a rented bmw convertible while your boss, sunglasses still glued to his face, drives everyone to the hotel accommodation

are you well prepared for the sudden island trip? no. hell, you didn't even bring any swimming clothes. were you expecting to meet future clients and investors that you may or may not have brought a work laptop and formal business attires instead of casual clothes? unfortunately yes

but given that your boss was a man of unpredictability, who actually knows why you were all in jeju

you don't even know why you expected less from your boss. you thought he'd be the type to just settle for a local airbnb but no, chenle pulls up to a sleek resort that resembled greece infrastructures. you probably couldn't even afford one night here if you were being honest

"nice, right?" chenle says, a little smug as he grabs his bags from the trunk. "i've been eyeing this place for awhile now and i only had the chance to go here today"

you can only stare in amazement at how beautiful the place is and the next thing you know the bell boy is now taking everyone's bags and ushering them inside the resort

"want to take a picture? it would last much longer" kun jokes, playfully waving his camera in front of your face, breaking your daze. you shake your head no as you cover your face with your hands

kun laughs and heads inside where chenle was at. he was checking everyone in at the reception desk. by the time you've followed kun, chenle was already holding the keycards to everyone's hotel rooms

"and this is your keycard" chenle hands you the card

"thank you, sir" you say quietly, taking the sleek black card from his hands

"i'll give you 15 minutes to drop off and settle your things in your room then i want you to meet us back here at the lobby" chenle says, reading something on his phone. which what you assume is the itinerary

"anything else i have to bring? like a clipboard, an ipad, or whatever you need?" you ask, taking a mental note where you had placed your work stuff in your luggage

chenle looks up and cocks his head to the side, clearly confused

"don't remind me of work right now. i'm here to have fun" chenle grimaces and you can tell by the way his lips contorts into a deep frown of disgust

your eyebrows twitch at the sight. you almost wanted to tell him then maybe he could've told you beforehand that you were going to go on vacation but instead you just give him a fake smile to show your professionalism

"very well, sir. i'll be on my way" you smile through gritted teeth. you even bowed at him like he was some master you were serving (well you kinda are) before walking away to find your room

when you were out of ear shot, kun chuckles, clearly amused by your dynamics with chenle

"she's always so uptight and professional with you" kun starts

chenle huffs, walking to the opposite direction, "don't care. what's important is that she's good at her job"

kun laughs again, looking at chenle's back that was once rigid with everything going on but it seems like he was starting to fall back and relax

which in his opinion, is definitely a good sign

ep. 11 — take a chance with me [𖦹 wc: 830+]

“that’s it for today guys! all of you did a great job, i can’t wait for us to start shooting tomorrow!!” the rest of the cast said their goodbyes and shuffled out of the room. wonbin shot seunghan a knowing look just as taesan wiggled his eyebrows at you before both musicians left for uni band practice for the upcoming end of year concert, followed by yizhuo who said something about having to style the band. sungchan, shotaro and eunseok said their goodbyes and filed out as well, patting seunghan on the back as they did. sohee and anton walked up to seunghan, holding back laughs as they gave him a hushed pep talk. 

you were too distracted by your conversation with karina and leehan about scenes that might need to be changed to notice seunghan’s nervous glances towards you as his two younger friends left the room. as you finished your discussion with your friends and closed your binder with notes on the film, leehan looked over your head and at seunghan, giggling before leaving the room and dragging karina with him before she could say more than “have fun!”

you spun on your heel to face seunghan, “so.”

“so?”

“where are we going?”

“oh! yeah sorry. um. we’re going to kwangya cafe first, and then, would you want to see a movie?” he said, rubbing the back of his neck in nervousness as he finished his question. you looked at him, holding back a smile, “seunghan i am literally directing a movie right now. do you think i don’t like watching them?”

“oh, yeah,” he laughed in embarrassment. “the local theatre is playing pride and prejudice for its anniversary i think. i remembered you talking about it and i’ve never seen it so i got us tickets.”

your whole face lit up and seunghan was relieved. 

you started talking about how much you loved the movie and how excited you were for him to see it as you packed up. he kept listening, asking questions and nodding his head. when you got to the cafe you cut off a short rant about cinematic techniques in romance so you could order, after which you said, “oh my god i’ve just been yapping about movies again. i’m so sorry.”

seunghan laughed and brushed it off, “don’t worry. it’s cute. i like listening to you.”

“oh. well. i wanna know more about you too though.”

so, the two of you delved into a conversation about his dance background, his love for pokémon, and any mutual interests the two of you shared. before you knew it the food and drinks were over and it was time for the film.

in the darkness of the small movie theatre, your elbows bumped against one another on your shared armrest every time one of you reached for the popcorn bucket in between. you kept subtly glancing over, trying to gauge the boy’s reaction to all your favourite scenes, observing as much of his expression as possible with the light from the large screen in front of you. every time you reacted to a scene—giggling when lizzie rejected mr. collins or sighing as you watched darcy’s hand flex for the 127th time in your life—seunghan would look over and wonder why he’d never tried harder to talk to you before now. 

seunghan was anything but dry and boring. he launched into a mini-monologue about the movie as soon as the two of you exited the movie theatre, and you were grateful for it. You’d always felt like you were too much for people, you’d been told you talked too much and too fast about the things you loved and were too passionate about movies and making them to pay attention to real life. but you never felt like you were too much around seunghan. more and more each day you were hoping his presence in your life would become permanent, and that it wouldn’t end as soon as the short film was done. 

the sky darkened as the sun set while he walked you back to your apartment. when the conversation you had been having came to a lull, you said to him, “you don’t have to do this you know? walking me back to my apartment and all.”

“oh it’s no problem, it’s on the way to my apartment anyway.”

“oh.”

“and i just wanted to,” he finished. you hummed in response, not knowing how to reply. soon, you arrived and said your goodbyes to each other. but as you turned around to open your door and he turned to leave, you spun back towards him, “seunghan?”

“yeah?”

“was this a date?” “only if you want it to be. see you tomorrow, future oscar winner,” he said with a grin, not giving you a chance to process his words and reply before leaving. The final part of his sentence only registered in your head as you walked into your apartment, the thought of it gracing your lips with a smile.

ep. 6 — grocery store sushi [𖦹 wc: ~720]

you said a goodbye towards your ajar bedroom door, your eyes still fixated on your laptop screen. from the living room came a hurried “bye” in response, followed by the sound of the front door opening and shutting, signalling that yizhuo had left the apartment. karina had left an hour before for her job at the campus cafe. it was silent, the only sounds being the click clack of your fingers on your keyboard as you typed up an email.

on your bed, lying on your stomach, you adjusted your position so you were no longer held up by your elbows, placing your palms flat on the surface of the bed and resting your chin on top. you scanned the email as you proofread it, muttering under your breath to yourself, “…would like permission to use the film studio in the east building-”

your train of thought was cut off by a soft knock at the door. you looked at the clock on your laptop, noticing it was already 3:25. sitting up, you took a deep breath, mentally preparing yourself to interact with hong seunghan one-on-one, something you had never done.

he knocked once again and you got off your bed, your sock-clad feet softly padding against the floor as you walked to the door. your hand reached for the doorknob but before you opened it, you paused, fiddling with your hair and clothing to make it more presentable. then you finally opened it. seunghan’s hand was up, as if he was about to knock once more. his somewhat surprised expression morphed into a wide smile, his eyes closing slightly in a way you found adorable.

“hi!”

“hi,” you said in response. “um, come in. sorry if it’s a bit messy, you can sit on the couch”

to your surprise, the interaction wasn’t awkward at all, despite your tendency to be closed off and awkward amongst people you weren’t close to. you realised no one could be awkward around seunghan. he, quite differently from you, had a tendency to make everyone in the room feel comfortable, and since it was just the two of you, his demeanour and behaviour helped you open up.

“so i think if you used your hands more in that part, it might communicate better? i always wrote isaac with him being a very physical speaker in mind. he uses a lot of actions and stuff you know what i mean?”

“yeah that makes sense. he seems like he feels a lot very deeply and he’s very expressive? if i’m not reading that wrong-”

you cut him off, “you’re reading it right seunghan. don’t worry. you’re good at this, i wouldn’t have casted you if you weren’t,” you smiled at him and you could see him physically let go of some of his tension about the role. you two alternated between discussing the film and conversing about anything else as if you’d been close for years. it was so easy to talk to him. he made even the most mundane topics interesting to talk about. you discussed your artistic influences, the basketball team he was on, your music tastes, your roommates, everything you could think of. a conversation about frank ocean was suddenly cut off by the low sound emitted by your stomach, signalling it was hungry. seunghan let out a chuckle and you closed your eyes in embarrassment. when you opened them back up he asked, “do you want to take a break and get something to eat?”

“yeah. sorry about that by the way, i just haven’t eaten in-” you checked the clock in your living room, “-about 4 hours.”

“don’t worry, i get it. i’m pretty hungry too,” he got off the couch the two of you were sitting on, “what do you wanna get?”

“um. sushi? we can get it from the grocery store down the street?”

he smiled and held his hand out to help you off the couch, “let’s go then.”

your hand in his made your skin feel like it was burning up, like where your hands connected was a fire. he looked down at your hands once you were off the couch and suddenly let go, looking slightly embarrassed and scratching the back of his neck. oh. okay. maybe you weren’t as completely delusional as you thought?

a/n: next update is ready and coming in a bit but i’ll give you guys time to process this 😁😁 and be happy with the fluff for a bit 😁😁

ep. 2 — audition day! [𖦹 wc: 730+]

— leehan coughed lightly to get your attention, “huh? oh. sorry, i’m just zoned out.”

“yeah i could tell,” he replied with a laugh

you smiled and looked back down at the scripts on the desk in front of you, overwhelmed by the fact that it was finally happening, you were finally making a film. the idea of watching people act out the scenes you wrote was daunting.

“i think a couple of people are already here, should i let them in?” you looked at the digital clock above the door, the red lights on it flashed 11:49. 

"tell them to wait a bit longer, i need to um-"

"it’s ok if you’re nervous. just because it’s a college short film doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter to you."

“thanks. and thanks for helping out again, i know the other three are busy for another hour but sungchan said him and his friends should be coming to help.”

“it’s no problem y/n, we’re all doing this together.” “honestly i don’t know what i would do without you guys.”

“you’d probably suffer,” he said, trying to alleviate your stress before going out to tell the people auditioning to wait longer. 

you took a deep breath. you can do this y/n. it’s just auditions. 

leehan walked back into the studio with sungchan, wonbin, eunseok and anton in tow. you greeted each other, and you thanked them for taking the time to help. “i just want to watch seunghan embarrass himself honestly,” said anton, which was met with eunseok hitting his chest so he followed up with, “-and to help. obviously.”

you laughed, “it’s ok, there’s not that much for you to do anyway, just take these scripts,” you picked up the stack from the desk and walked over to them, “and pass them around when the auditionees come in.”

before you knew it, 10 minutes had passed by, so when the clock showed 11:59, you got the boys to call the auditionees in. it was only about 10 people, some you recognised, some you didn’t. you’d made a lot of time for auditions, knowing there were people that had classes and could only show up later. what you didn’t expect was how many people would show up.

in total, 34 people auditioned for the 4 available roles. you were in for a lot of difficult decision making that night. your frontrunners for the female lead were ahn yujin from your year and kim minjeong, a senior. you definitely knew minjeong better, having hung out with her before since her and karina went to high school together. but while both played the part better than anyone in that room, yujin brought such a realistic edge to the character, it was fascinating to watch her audition because you could really feel your character come to life. 

the male lead front runners were sung hanbin and hong seunghan. you knew seunghan from a few classes you’d taken together in the past, and because he was friends with sungchan, a highschool classmate of yours. he was on the basketball team, and you’d seen a couple of games of his. you knew he was good at basketball, but you’d never expected him to be so good at acting. in many ways he felt like your character had been lifted off the page and become a real person. you were trying desperately to ignore the tiny bias in your head towards him, courtesy of the crush you’d had last semester. 

hanbin on the other hand, was vice-captain of the dance team, and was expected to take over once shotaro (the current captain) graduated. he had a natural talent for performance of all kinds, as was evident from his audition. 

needless to say, you were exhausted once the auditions were done, letting out a huge breath once everyone but your friends had left. 

“god that was fucking tiring,” said yizhuo. taesan nodded, “too many good options, but at least the bad ones were fun to watch.” you all hummed in agreement, and packed up your things in silence. 

“so, back to the apartment for decisions? i wanna get it done by tomorrow afternoon,” you said when everyone looked ready to go. “can we pick up snacks on the way?” asked leehan. you nodded in response and the 5 of you set off to you, yizhuo and karina’s shared apartment.

a/n: sorry for the delay, the main reason this chapter took so long was me procrastinating the written section lols. also! lmk if you guys want a teaser for my next smau (a wonbin one) set in the same universe 👀
