《塞爾維亞理髮師》這部歌劇集結了義大利喜歌劇 (Opera buffa)的精華，劇本生動活潑、形式自由，可說是充滿幻想的義大利喜歌劇代表作。從此之後，羅西尼一路平步青雲，成為風靡整個歐洲樂壇的歌劇大師，就連當時的樂聖貝多芬 (Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827)也頗為吃味。然而，1829年《威廉泰爾》上演後，正處於事業顛峰的羅西尼卻突然隱退，並在往後的三十幾年中，潛心於宗教音樂及一些零星的歌曲創作。

羅西尼(Rossini)一生講究享受，是個十足的生活享樂主義者。他熱愛美食更醉心於烹飪藝術。在當今美食界中，就有許多著名佳餚以他為命名。而在生活中，羅西尼的風趣與幽默更是屢見不鮮。據聞有一次，當他聽到人們要在米蘭為他豎立紀念碑時，他認真的說：「只要他們肯把這些錢送給我，我願意在有生之年，每天站在市場旁紀念碑的台子上。」大師風範與幽默機智的言談可見一般。
