“You guys are literally always on top of each other, does that not get annoying?” Charlie asked, plopping down on the floor of the cave and looking at the boy with glasses.

“Charlie, literally what do you mean?” you question, sitting very much almost directly on top of Steven Meeks.

“Well for starters, goofy number one is almost sitting in goofy number two’s lap,” Charlie pointed out, leaning forward to wag a finger in you and Steven’s face.

“Also… you guys always walk here together, very far away from the rest of the group,” Pitts also points out, jealous that his best friend walked with you rather than him.

“When we’re in the commons area, you two always dismiss yourselves to bed before the rest of us.” Todd mumbled softly, not wanting to sound too accusatory.

“And c’mon, I know love and that far off look in Meeks’ eye is the picture beside the word “lovestruck” in the dictionary.” Knox said, lighting his pipe.

“So either you two are very, very close friends or you’re not so secretly dating,” Neil hums, taking a puff of his pipe.

You let out a quiet huff as Meeks quietly pushed his glasses up and looked everywhere but at the 6 other pairs of eyes that wanted the answer to a very important question.

“Were you and Meeks dating?”

You were currently perched on Steven’s lap, looking at him with soft lovey eyes. You traced the bridge of his nose as he looks at you with a lovestruck smile.

“Hi,” you whispered, replacing your finger with your lips and kissing his nose lightly, then wiping the lipgloss from the tip of his nose.

“Hi my love,” he whispered back, smiling as you tucked your head under his chin to lay on his chest.

He rubbed your back softly and kissed your head a few times.

“When’re we gonna tell ‘em,” you mumbled, mouth slightly covered by the soft blue material of Meeks’ sweater.

“Soon… you know how they’ll react,” he hums, not liking the secret keeping from your friends just as much as you.

You both knew how’d the other poets would react, well you had two ideas.

A. They freak out that two of their best friends are dating. Then it’d weird for everyone else in the group.

B. They freak out with excitement. They’ve literally shipped the two of you since your first day at Welton, so it would be a major dream come true for the whole lot, mainly Knox and Charlie they were the hardest shippers.

So here you two sat, quietly tucked away in Meeks’ dorm while Pitts was out at his Robotics Club meeting. The both of you knew that announcing your relationship would not cause idea A, but rather idea B. Yet the thought of telling them was nerve wracking, especially since the two of you were usually quiet and kept to yourselves.

Looking up and kissing Meeks softly, you hear the door creak open. Before you can pull away, a soft gasp was heard.

Steven opened his eyes to see a shocked Todd in the doorway, you quickly pulling away from the kiss and scurrying off of Todd’s lap.

“Todddd… Hiiiiii,” Meeks said, wiping your shiny lipgloss from his lips.

“I um, had a science project to do with Pitts… he um- he told me to just come right in. He said you wouldn’t mind me being here before his club meeting ended, Meeks.” Todd mumbled quickly, slowly eyeing the two of you.

“Todd. door. closed. inside. now,” you ordered, standing up from the bed and looking at Meeks with a “What do we even do” stare.

As Todd grabs the door handle, Neil skips through the hallway and sees the three sitting in the dorm.

Leaning on the doorway, Neil peaks inside. “Hellloooo guys! What’re we up to in here?”

Todd looks down, not being able to bear making eye contact with Neil for the fear he might share what he just saw.

“I um…nevermind.” Todd starts, before you look at Neil.

“Todd barged in unannounced,” you started, before Pitts comes bounding through the door and flopping on his bed.

“Long meeting, sorry Todd,” he huffs, out of breath from his run up the stairs.

“Continue oh storyteller,” Neil says, as he looks at you.

“Well Todd walks in as Meeks and I were,” you begin again, before Charlie, Knox, and Cameron walk down the hallway from their various sport practices.

“Look who it is!! Secret Poets meeting without us friends?”, questions Charlie, who leads in the trio.

Knox perches on Meeks desk, Charlie plops on the bed beside Pitts, and Cameron stands in the doorway with Neil. Now, 7 sets of eyes were looking at you.

“As I was saying, Todd caught Meeksie and I in a compromising position.” you said, looking at Meeks for help.

“We were uh, working yeah,” he nods along, mouthing a “sorry” at you for not knowing how to tell the others what you two were really doing.

“Enough beating around the bush guys, something was happening,” Knox hums, raising an eyebrow.

“Meeksie, C’mere would you.” Charlie asks, leaning closer to Meeks and sniffing softly.

“Strawberry gloss huh Meeks?” Charlie continues, a knowing Charles Dalton classic smirk gracing his face.

“They were kissing.” Todd says, quickly covering his mouth as if he couldn’t believe he said that aloud.

A cacophony of noise filled your ears as many questions and accusations were thrown the pairs way.

“Kissing?!” Pitts screeched, sitting up from his previous sprawled out position.

“You two are foul… ON SCHOOL PROPERTY?!” Neil said, walking farther into the room.

“How long?” Knox asked, smiling softly at the idea of young love.

“3 months… we’ve been together for 3 months.” You responded, looking at Knox, knowing that he knew exactly what you two had been doing this entire time

The boys all gave big smiles, and started clapping.

“Oh I knew it. I love love.” Knox says, clasping his hands and tucking them under his chin.

“Well done you two, well done.” Cameron said, smiling as you and Meeks blushed.

“You owe me 20 bucks Pittsie,” Charlie started, before being cut off by a pillow to his face by the boy now indebted to him.

“No throwing pillows guys, you know the headmaster wouldn’t like a broken window,” Cameron said matter-of-factly, before another pillow was hurled at him.

“Enough guys enough, Meeks and I were in the middle of something so shoo would you?!” you urged, pushing Cameron and Todd out of the doorway.

“Hey, Todd and I have a science project to do.” Pitts says, standing up and attempting to stop Todd from leaving.

“There’s this thing called a library Pittsie. Use it.” you hummed, pushing the remaining Poets out of the room.

“Use protection,” Charlie says, earning an eye roll from Meeks and a slammed door from you.

As soon as they were all away from the door, after a quick knock from Charlie in the hallway and a “I mean it Steven”, you slid back into Meeks’ lap.

“Well I did not imagine that to be their reaction,” you hum, earning a kiss on the head from Steven.

“They’re quite the unimaginable gang,” he responds, which caused you to laugh softly.

“Hey but now it’s out there in the open, and we don’t have to sneak around,” you say, yawning quietly.

“Mhmm. ‘s not so secret anymore,” Steven replies, as you close your eyes.

“Love you honey,” you mutter, kissing his clothed chest and drifting off.

Okay I’ll bite. In the movie it’s pretty clear (unless you disagree) that Neil is the de facto leader of the friend group. In my opinion the runner-up as far as sway in the group is Charlie. But in what specific scenarios could you see each poet in as the Leader Of The Group?

okay okay i see!! i DEF see Neil as top dog and Charlie as runner up but lemme tell you where the others shine☺️

- Neil Perry is the leader in majority of the situations. Seeing as he was the one pushing for starting the Society and he’s also the head hancho at meetings I think he shines the most there.

- Todd Anderson is a quiet leader, more so setting an example than verbally telling the boys what to do. When they go out in public, Todd sets the example to be a civilized member of society and prays the boys follow.

- Charlie Dalton is the leader in sports, and when Neil isn’t around. Seeing as he’s the only Poet on the Soccer team, when they play for fun he always directs it.

- Knox Overstreet is the soul provider for the love department. Sure the others semi have an idea on what to do in romantic situations, but they always go to Knox either way.

- Steven Meeks does not enjoy being the leader. Many times in the movie, such as when Mr. Keating tells them to rip out the pages of their book, you can see Steven looking back to the others to make sure he isn’t alone. I think this would ring true for Meeks in every day life, except for the Poet’s study groups. Meeks would be assisting everyone on how to do work.

- Gerard Pitts takes on the leadership role in the creative aspects of life. He’s kinda the leader and main builder of his and Meek’s radio station, so I think if any of the poets ever had a creative mind question it would fall into Pittsie’s hands.

- Richard Cameron tries to take control of the situation many times a day, but the poets usually don’t listen to him. One place they actually listen to him in is math tutoring. Meeks tries to lead them at math, but when he gets self conscious, he has to turn to Richie to verbalize what he’s wanting to say.
