Some key points to Draven’s new backstory.

Since we never know when Draven’s new lore is coming out (thanks Riot), and since I have a completely canon-divergent Draven on my hands, I thought I might as well rewrite his backstory to where things make more sense. These are just key points, and will be written in a story format whenever I get the chance.

--- Emeric Diederich was a low-ranking military spy for the Noxian empire. He was sent to Ionia on a scouting mission prior to any invasion orders given by Boram Darkwill. There, Emeric met Yuyako Kurosawa, a strong woman battling an ancient curse for the betterment of Ionia’s people, and they fell in love.

--- Draven’s birth name had been Aia, a name given by his mother as though prophesying ( or wishing for ) his fame and success. He scrapped that name at the age of six when becoming wholly independent and went unnamed until adopting ‘Draven’ (explained later).

--- Draven wasn’t born in Noxus, he was instead born in Ionia. He lived there for roughly two years until his father took him to Noxus on the return home. This was done against his mother’s demands, and behind her back.

--- Emeric returned to his home on Noxus’ outskirts. He was otherwise disapproving of Draven’s gender identity as Draven understood early on that he didn’t enjoy the ‘girly’ lifestyle; he’d often ruin dresses and blouses given to him. Because of this, Draven was often punished by his father for not conforming to the ‘gender norms’. He would also often earn the criticism of Emeric’s one-night lovers and they’d lock him in a room during the times of their involvement with one another.

--- He never received early training for any potential military involvement, as his father openly saw Draven as a failure. What little education he did receive occurred at home, and was less than kind or informative. He’d be threatened, or harmed, as consequence for mistakes. His father often laughed at Draven’s struggle with reading and writing, as he had dyslexia at an early age. It’s now mostly in control, but sometimes he has his days.

--- Fed up with his father’s harassment, Draven fled from home at the age of six and ended up in Basilich where he, eventually, fell to the lowly life in the slums. There, he learned a harsh lesson of survival and drew the first life in an alley. The dagger he disarmed from the beggar had been his weapon of choice for the entirety of his street life, and it’s the dagger he carries with him at all times. He has used the same dagger to keep his hair fairly short for comfort reasons.

--- The first kill and need to survive proved traumatizing for the young Draven, so he formulated a coping mechanism that is the narcissistic personality. He became a public face, and was infamous for his crafty thievery and overall spunk with a knack for fighting. Every kill weighed on his shoulders, but he figured he could boost his hubris to drown out the negativity and trauma.

--- Draven often involved himself in fights against other beggars and street rats for a bite of food or sum of gold. They often happened outside of trashy bars or in alleys away from prying eyes, and many learned to bet their money on him as he made a name for himself.

--- Draven got his name from an elderly tavern owner who helped teach him some common Noxian, knowing that Basilich would one day join the expanding empire. Draven took his name from the word meaning ‘hunter’, and that day he vowed to never become another man’s prey again.

--- Noxus came to Basilich around the time Draven turned nine, and he attempted to assassinate Commander Cyrus. He was found and captured by Cyrus’ legionnaires, and he was asked to join the military. Although Draven knew such a life wasn’t for him, he did hope to not only prove his father wrong, but knew it’d guarantee food and shelter. He agreed.

--- It was during training and on the battlefield that he met Darius fairly early, and since then the two have shared a strange bond. It was an awkward thing at first, especially with Darius’ silence and Draven’s obnoxious gibberish while struggling with common Noxian, but eventually they learned to coexist and saw each other as brothers. Draven later adopted Darius’ surname as his own since he wished to bury every part of his past, and he was known as the ‘expressive brother’. Their famous title of ‘Blood Brothers’ stems from the fact that they kindled their bonds in blood through war.

--- Draven first met Swain during his training, and let me tell you when the man’s passive demeanor often irked him. He’d often issue challenges upon his superiors, and Swain was one of those he challenged more often than others if only to try and feel the satisfaction of wiping such a passive look from his face. Some of his superiors hated his disobedience, and others loved the spark he had. 

--- At the age of thirteen, Draven was granted permission to see a surgeon and mage about gender reassignment so that he would overall perform better when comfortable with himself and his image. The reassignment surgery went first, and then the mage assigned to him rearranged hormones, muscles, and the skeletal structure to mirror that of a normal human man’s. Adjustments were painful for the latter, but Draven was extremely happy with the result.

--- His confidence in the ‘new’ him fueled his hubris, and Draven realized that war wasn’t enough for him. He wasn’t being recognized for his unique style and independent coordination, as Darius was always seen as the ‘gifted brother’. This later leads to Draven’s involvement in Swain’s coup, and then his request to take over the arena. After rewriting the entire system to be more controlled and beneficial, while allowing inmates to either run and die like cowards, or fight for a chance to walk out alive, he found this to be the segue to his fame and glory.

--- Understanding that this meant he’d see his brother less, Draven knew that this was an opportunity and he took it. For months he was busy with the backed up prison of those awaiting execution, and all children were set free on his direct watch and order. He later earned the title of ‘Glorious Executioner’ for his flamboyant performances, and he was sooner given the title of ‘Grand Executioner’ for his persistence and success.

--- Once the arena was no longer clogged by awaiting executions, Draven returned to the warfront when needed. The arena would always be there for him, and he knew he’d never leave what helped him succeed in the first place.

--- Draven now speaks common Noxian, a bit of Ur-Noxian, and common Ionian. He speaks Ionian fluently.

PHYSICAL: Height: 5'10″ Weight: 216lbs Scars & birthmarks: 3 lines trailing down the left side of his face from the hairline to lower jaw scar his face. Beside those three, closest to his ear, is the start of a 4th line that was cut off. He has a small nick in his left ear, showing that skin is missing. Scars litter the rest of his body which, evidently, doesn’t matter to him. However, the one big scar runs from his left shoulder down to his right hip (which will be written about in a drabble sometime down the line WINK). Abilities & Powers: Draven has an abnormally high pain tolerance and is very durable. Shockingly durable. He is able to survive most supposedly-fatal blows and situations. In addition, he is strong enough to spin his axes and get them to cut through the ground, but he can injure himself if they’re thrown wrong. Restrictions: Close combat isn’t really his strong suit anymore and he can’t exactly counter heavy weapons. Draven’s ego can be a saving grace, but also his biggest downfall in the face of danger.

Honestly what’s a relationship to this guy? favorite canon ship : Gross canon ships are boring favorite non-canon ship :  Um I don’t have ONE fave buuut I can mention a few: Draven/Happiness | Jayce/Darius | Thresh/Kali | Vlad/TF | Jhin/Susano opinion on true love :  Draven doesn’t believe in it. He believes that love is a waste of time and efforts anyway. He sees it as a weakness. opinion on love at first sight : To him, love at first sight is just kinda that weird fling you have when attracted to someone. He’d probably delve into flirting with the person until they either express their disinterest or he gets to lay with them once. Afterwards? He’ll likely start to distance himself. how ‘romantic’ are they? : It may be difficult for him to express it, but he definitely tries? In situations where he has the chance, Draven would make an effort to bring his partner little gifts. These gifts may or may not include a necklace made of their worst enemy’s teeth. He’s more of a night-out kinda guy, so he’d likely bring them to a club or dinner or something. ideal physical traits : Draven kinda likes larger men, both height and muscle, though he doesn’t like to limit himself too much. He’s a fan of ‘bear’ types, but he’s also not very... particular. Like, for example, he’d definitely give monsters of other origins and men of the Isles a try too. He also has a huge thing for scars, markings, and tattoos. Of course, he’d never date anyone prettier than him which, honestly, he believes isn’t possible so, really, anyone has a chance I guess. ideal personality traits : Draven is disgustingly attracted to power, so anyone who’s confident and also willing to praise and worship him would be perfect. However, he does also really love the ‘badboy’ types, but also those who appear very regal and act like the King of something very important. Also intelligence is a huge thing, but he wants someone who can be serious and who can also have fun at the same time. He’s also a sucker for the grumpy ones too because getting them to smile is rewarding enough. unattractive physical traits : Anyone who’s weak would be a huge turn off, but that mostly comes hand-in-hand with his upbringing and where he was raised. By weak, I mean physically weak, and this ties into magic and things of the like; body type has no bearing on ability and that’s how he sees it. He also hates uncleanliness in people. unattractive personality traits : Timid and easily scared people sicken him. Cowards have no place in his general presence, so obviously he wouldn’t give them a chance either. He likes an audience and he’s absolutely love the jealousy of onlookers knowing that they had no chance with him. Additionally, this means that he’s very open to public intimacy, whether or not someone would see. past relationships? :  His one true relationship was with a Shuriman woman named Amarah Khafra. She was the daughter of a family of healers and cursed her own magic, becoming a pestilent mage. Banished from Shurima for killing a nobleman who attempted to court her, Amarah fled to Noxus and proved her worth by instantly inflicting disease on the soldier who dared to oppose her. She joined the ranks of the executioners and Draven fell for her the day she gave him strep throat so he’d stop talking. Her power and wisdom earned his respect and the two eventually fell for each other. Unfortunately, as love between executioners was forbidden, they were forced to fight each other and the survivor would be allowed to live. Seeing her fight without hesitation, nearly killing him with both physical wounds and sickness, Draven managed to lift his affliction by killing her and, since then, he’s been extremely put off from relationships. Joke’s on him, she’s not actually dead but ssh it’s fine.
