Wuhu Music Bureau 吾湖音乐局 is back! So happy to have another episode of this CHARMING show! And I’m absolutely delighted to have 李琦 Li Qi joining the fun! He seems so dang jolly. 😂
The farm animals have arrived, and Fang Shujian brought his lion dance costume this time. There’s also a basket of… rubber chickens? 🐔
Ayanga brought gifts for the hamster, which is too adorable for words. And later, he did an impression of a certain bass crooner that ENDED ME.
They called many of the Super Vocal season one brothers to get them all to sing a specific line from a song, and it was a cavalcade of familiar faces and voices. There is one glaring omission so far, and yes, I get WHY he can’t be here, but I still hate that Dalong can’t be a part of all this.
Even without our Dalong, this is all so cute, and so wholesome. I love seeing these guys spending time together and making music. Their silly, playful rendition of “Do, Re, Mi” made me smile so much! And every time they do another “wohoo!” I giggle.
Zhang Chao cooks for the group, and demonstrates some impressive knife work on a fish. Who knew?!
There’s an ad for the show’s sponsor, featuring the cuteness of 黄子弘凡 Huang Zihongfan, aka Lars Huang. So happy to see him getting these little promotional gigs! Good for him!
There’s an amusing dance lift sequence that must be seen to be believed. But wait! It turns into Hong Zhiguang hoisting Fang Shujian onto his shoulders, at which point he does some squats. 😂 These fools!
Ma Jia’s return is greeted with joy and some belly rubs. This is how he should always be welcomed. Did he have any idea he’d be carrying a little piggy around this week?
Ayanga takes some time to commune with a little black goat, bleating and fetching a handful of grass for it to munch. He gently coaxes a few beautiful bleats out of it (they’re recording the animal sounds for something), and looks so pleased.
All in all, another lovely episode full of cute moments. 💜 Wohoo!

I still wince at the English translations of the hero names
like "Firm Man"? bro his Chinese hero name is 英雄不倒, hero unfalling. Couldn't they have gone with something like "Unyielding" or "Atlas"?? I'm Chinese too man and I wish they had a better sense for English names
E-Soul too, I know his name is supposed to mean electric soul or soul electric, bc 魂电. If it's still a mouthful, why not "Soul Light"? or "Soul-Blitzer"? or even call him "ELE-Soul"?
I don't know why the translators okayed firm man
edit: just found out abt dragon boy..
*deep inhale*
idk his powers, but dear lord, no. the US with American Dragon Jake Long was better than this at LEAST. why is the best thing for 梁龙 "dragon boy"???? why not "Draconic" or "Dracolink/Drakolink"?? Or smth even simpler like "The Dragon"?

Q: What is a splendid poem you wrote in a non-English language?
Tumblr media
It’s not a poem, per se, but let me share the first scene in my wuxia retelling of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus. For those unfamiliar with the term, wuxia is a Chinese genre of literature that features martial arts, valiance, action and often elements of the supernatural. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), for example, is wuxia.
As for the source material, Titus Andronicus starts off with two brothers, Saturninus and Bassianus, along with their followers, competing to see who will rule Rome. Right before a riot begins Titus’ brother, Marcus, arrives and announces that Titus, an ancient but highly respected general, is returning from war and will choose which brother will be made emperor. For my retelling all the genders are reversed. Bái Sī [白丝, White Silk] and Sàtǔn [萨吞, Steel-Swallower] are sisters. Tiě Gū [铁姑, Iron Aunt] is the sister to General Tiān Mǔ [天母, Heavenly Mother].
My skills at translating Chinese have much to be desired, so any errors here are entirely my own.
Act I 一 Scene I
》 [Blood stains the jade steps, a phoenix weeps for the dying sun.]
[Yumen Kingdom · Outside the Thousand Swords Palace。]
[War drums tear at the clouds as the curtain rises, Bái Sī and Sàtūn stand frozen on the palace steps. Below, their Iron Ox and Heavenly Crane disciples wage war. At the gates, Lǐguān stand rigid, Yùshǐ clutch ink-brushes and Jinyiwei guards rest hands on half-drawn blades, silent as carved sentinels.]
[Her Zhanmadao screams through air, whipping up a dust-whirlwind.]
"铁牛门下!"

"朕即凤诏,天命在刃!"
"I am the Phoenix's living edict, the Mandate burns in my steel!"
"和我一起站起来,铸就历史的栋梁!"
"Stand with me and be forged into history's pillars!"
"叛龙者 …"
"Betray me …"
[A blade-flash—every palace lantern gutters out.]
SÀTŪN [cont.]

[Needle-swords flash into crane-wing stance, her sneer colder than moonlight.]
"天命?"
"The Mandate?" [Laugh like cracking ice.]
"弑亲之血,也配称凤?"
"Can a kinslayer's hands still clutch the Phoenix’s crown?"
"天鹤展翅!"
"Heavenly Crane spreads its wings!"
[Her blades shiver like pinions at mid-strike—the crane’s grace laced with scorpion’s venom. Her faction echoes with choral crane-cries, a sound like silk tearing on sword-edges.]
BÁI SĪ [cont.]
"重器非在冠冕,而在德行。"
"True power lies not in crowns, but in virtue."
"尔自比狂风?不瘈狗吠日!"
"You call yourself a storm? A rabid dog barking at heaven!"
[Her warriors' cries pierce the air—the Iron Ox ranks stagger, their formation fraying.]
[Enters with the Jade Scepter, her 9-section whip coiled around her hips. The air thickens, sharp as a guillotine’s edge.]
"骨肉相残之座,未雪先倾。" "The throne built on sister-blood collapses before winter’s first snow can hide its sins."
"今奉碎玉令,迎天母将军班师 ..." "By the Broken Jade Seal, I declare General Tiān Mǔ regent ..."
"五毒教之役,当终今日。" "Her war against the Five Poisons Sect ends now."
"散!" "Disperse!"
"… 否则御史以刻石指铭罪,鬼神同泣!" "… or the Yùshǐ’s Stone-Carving Finger will engrave your crimes so deep, even gods and ghosts will wail!"
[The Yùshǐ’s strike lands—fingertips shatter the marble floor, cracks spider-webbing like a verdict.]
[Spots an inkstone left by a fleeing scholar, her lips curl.]
[Her boot flips it, black ink gushes down the steps like a slit throat.]
"刻啊!"
"Carve this!"
"让后世记得 ..."
"Let history remember …"
[Jinyiwei blades gleam with reflected ink, their phoenix-cry a funeral dirge.]
[Bái Sī’s crane-hairpin clatters to the floor, its feather-tip staining black.]
SÀTŪN [cont.]
"… 铁牛将军之妹执印却不敢执刃!"
"… the Iron General’s sister clutches seals, but flees from steel!"
[Raising the Jade Order, her voice colder than a tomb’s breath.]
"刻石遗臭,万古流秽。"
"Let stone etch your reek, let ten thousand generations gag on your name."
[The jade steps tremble, as if fearing her decree.]
TIĚ GŪ [cont.]
"母皇遗诏刻于玉,非书于血。"
"The Empress’ will was carved in jade, not scribbled in traitors’ blood."
[Jinyiwei blades hum, a phoenix weeping for the dead sovereign.]
[Gazes at the drowned feather, ink seeping like tears, then her voice lifts, clear and cold.]
“血缘始,血缘终。” "By blood it began, by blood it ends."

BÁI SĪ [cont.]
“我臣服 ...” "I yield ..."
“… 非顺汝刃,乃顺天佑。” "… not to your blade, but to Heaven’s decree."
[Her disciples retreat like an avalanche in reverse, soundless, deliberate.]
BÁI SĪ [cont.]
“愿鹤唳引慈母之手。” "May the crane’s cry guide my Mother’s hand."

[The Iron Ox faction withdraws, but every finger still curls around cold steel.]
SÀTŪN [cont.]
“让玉门断壁 ...”
"Let the ruins of the Jade Gate ..."
[Her saber splits the earth, stone shatters like a spine.]
SÀTŪN [cont.]
“... 判谁凤血承天!”
"… decide whose veins bear the Phoenix’s truth!"
[As factions retreat, guards raise jade-ash, the Wuxing symbols form then dissolves like a phoenix's rebirth from the ash.]
[The curtains close on:]
[Sàtūn's blade]
插在玉阶 [embedded in jade steps]
[Bái Sī's feather]
飘向冷月 [drifting toward the icy moon]
[Tiě Gū's whip]
缠着半截断诏 [coiled around a torn edict]
上书: [which reads:]
"朕死之年..."
"The year I die..."
"...血菩萨现。"
"...the Blood Bodhisattva comes."
֍
Notes:
Wuxia (pronounced: "woo-syah") is known for its melodrama and camp, breathtaking swordplay and high-flying martial arts (literally, the actors defy gravity via Wire Fu, as seen in The Matrix). Here are some terms that I need to explain:
Lǐguān, Yùshǐ and Jinyiwei are different sorts of Imperial court officials. Wuxing, often translated as the Five Phases (see diagram below), is a conceptual scheme used in many Chinese fields of study to explain a wide array of phenomena, such as characterizing the interactions and relationships within various sciences, medicines, politics and religions. Whereas an Emperor was compared to a dragon, an Empress (especially Wu Zetian) was compared to a phoenix. A Zhanmadao or “Horse-chopping blade” was a large sword popular during the Song dynasty. Being ignorant in many things I chose to set the play in a mythical ancient China, to avoid that whole “historically accurate” razzamatazz.

English Translation:
Verse 1:
Asking; who is the one going with me?
Though the wind blows with rain thousands of miles, we stand together and are in sync with each other
I have always viewed the world with a cold glance
People are busy bustling about with thousands of obsessions around
Pre-chorus 1:
If you call yourself my soulmate
Understanding my emotions, my thoughts, and me;
I am cold and indifferent
Never believing in fate, letting karma take its course
Yet because of him, I was touched and subtly changed the course of my destiny.
How can it be so light and peaceful, day and night?
The red thread is secretly tied
Raise a glass of wine and make an agreement to meet again, not breaking the appointment
Chorus:
I wish to come to see you year after year, like a swallow on the beam
Frost and snow fall from another world, sending my messages and thoughts to you along the way.
Love is like life and death; like clouds and smoke,
It vanishes with the morning and evening, and comes back with the morning and evening
The peach blossoms have bloomed in the courtyard
Pre-chorus 2:
If you call yourself my soulmate
Understanding my emotions, my thoughts, and me;
along with this endless love for you
Never believing in fate, letting karma take its course
Yet because of his prayer, ensuring the continuation of our marriage in the next life
How can it be so light and peaceful, day and night?
The red thread is secretly tied
Raise a glass and make an agreement to meet again, not breaking the appointment
Last Chorus:
I wish you a thousand years of good health, hand-in-hand growing old together
The man looks at his soulmate, never growing weary of looking at each other
Let the sun and the moon streak across the sky like arrows; and let the wheel turns through the world
Let me follow you to the top of the palace, or to the end of the world ready with sword in hand
Discovering a trace of the paradise
In retrospect, those prosperous times were peaceful and tranquil like the rivers and oceans.

poetry lines befitting MCS and XJY
These are mostly chinese tang shi and song ci poetry quotes, with a great biased amount from Su Shi because OP doesn't know better. Crude, 5-minute english translations below. There are lines I semi-made up or adapted from fandom/cpop songs (that is, most of Xiao Jingyan's lines), ngl OP is rather embarrassed of them because they aren't good at all looking back now but we'll just leave them here or else XJY would end up with zero quotes.

Mei Changsu
Think to the day I tied back my hair and enlisted. Think to the day the horn rang at the frostbitten tents, think to the day I danced my sword making the sound that deafens the wind. Think to the day I took to the lance, and it pierced through the skies, rising higher than the clouds. — Xia Wanchun
The warrior fights a hundred battles, yet what remains is his severed reputation. He looks to the bridge over the river, thousands of miles back, past acquaintances forever gone. In another life, over the howling of the west wind and the cold Yi rivers, the banquet sits, clothes adorned in snowlike white. The courageous man strides through the blizzard, the song of lament never ceasing. — Xin Qiji
The plum blossoms wither and drift to the ground, crushed into earthly soil and dust. The prevailing fragrance is what remains. — Lu You
So long as this is what my heart longs for and treasures, though I die nine deaths, my heart does not regret. — Qu Yuan
Lords and lieges ebb into nothing but a dream; in the river of time transcending present and past vain titles remain, cast into the void. — Su Shi
The heart is at peace like the ancient well that does not ripple; the integrity is as the autumn bamboos, steadfast and unfaltering. — Su Shi
The warship moves a thousand miles, ensigns enshrouding the sky. He pours out wine by the riverside, holds out his lance, and writes verses as he speaks. — Su Shi
Facing but a guqin, a jug of wine, a stream of cloud. — Su Shi
The rivers and mountains of the kingdom outstretch before me, as moving as in art: this is my heart’s will. — from the song “Feng Qi Shi”, when the wind blows
Bones completely crushed from the battle, yet aspirations unwavering. The heart has not changed; the blood flows red still. — adapted from the song “Chi Xue Chang Yan”, the noble blood flows red, and poet Wang Changling
With folded arms, he devises labyrinthine strategies. The sceptre of power sways and shifts. He shrouds his gaze modestly, and in conversations of small smiles, he discerns the intention of men. — adapted from the song “Chi Xue Chang Yan”, the noble blood flows red
Tumblr media
Xiao Jingyan
The submerged dragon rises one day to ride the winds. Singing high and long; the bow is drawn pointed at the invading Sirius. — from the song “Chang Yin”, the Long Darkness found here
Awashed in the raised lamps of the imperial palace, thoughts whisper in grievance. The bell rings at the Jiu’an grounds, and he lies abed sleepless. — adapted from The Song of Everlasting Sorrow by Bai Juyi
Dreams soar in the flurrying gallops of the battlefield, flourishing dreams of splendour and joy. In pleasant dialogue with scholars, civility obliges polite smiles into the etiquette of lords and lieges. — adapted from the song “Zhi Bi Xia Shu”, a letter to Your Majesty, and Liu Yuxi
Armoured horses riding in parallel at the borderlands — how many times has the soul wandered to such dreams of the past. The hourly drums sound ceaseless across the long night; under the emperor's brush, the fate of prosperity and declination writes. — adapted from the song “Chang Yin”, the Long Darkness found here, and “Chi Xue Chang Yan”, the noble blood flows red
The future of his kingdom sweeps into a tilt of his hand. With crown upheld, he folds his arms in his sleeves awatching humanity. — adapted from the song “Chang Yin”, the Long Darkness found here
Up close, the furrowed brows are smoothed. Ten thousands of feet stretch before him, converging into mountains at a distance. In the deepest dreams, the markings of a smile lie; he stirs up the wind which marks and rips tides in the tumultuous waters. — adapted from the song “Zhi Bi Xia Shu”, a letter to Your Majesty

Two (three) things to note:
My dying obsession with Su Shi, sorry I can’t help it that perhaps over half of the all the poetry I know is from him;
To be really fair, my favourite description of Mei Changsu is 运筹帷幄之中,决胜千里之外, used in describing Zhang Liang in Si Maqian's Records of the Grand Historian. He orchestrates masterplans in the tent of the army; he determines the victory of the battle from afar, thousands of miles from the front.
As for my favourite depiction of Lin Shu, it is definitely Su Shi’s description of Cao Cao: 舳舻千里,旌旗蔽空,酾酒临江,横槊赋诗。 The warship moves a thousand miles, ensigns enshrouding the sky. He pours out wine by the riverside, holds out his lance, and writes verses as he speaks. Xin Qiji’s verse above just fits the entire story of Mei Changsu so much, it deserves a mention.
I was assembling/making these lines up for something back then and so just listed whatever came to mind (for reasons I know not I kept on listing stuff for MCS, but maybe XJY was the typical good emperor kind of person so wasn't as inspiring coming up with quotes for him).
If there are lines of poetry you find really befitting the two characters, we're more than interested starting a thread here just for that purpose.
