Destined With You has me intrigued. There are things I like about it (mostly Rowoon and the mystery), things that annoy me (the bad co-workers), and things that confuse me. After 4 episodes, I finally feel like I'm starting to understand what the writer is trying to do.

However, Netflix strikes again with a generic drama title that is very confusing and doesn't capture the depth or meaning of the Korean title in the slightest. (Thank goodness Viki got Doom at Your Service first cause that title is fire, even if it's not literal. I'm still shaking my fist at Netflix naming very accurate Korean title, Forest of Secrets, the boring and bland non-specific Stranger. Just why?!)

The Korean title is 이 연애는 불가항력.

The first part 이 연애는 means 'this love'. But the final word is the Korean translation of the French law terminology 'force majeure' (aka major force) which they translate as 'irresistible force'. It's a clause that is commonly used in contracts that negates some or all of the terms of a contract when an 'act of God' occurs, like a natural disaster, which would make one or both parties unable to fulfill their responsibilities. This is interesting as it gives the real title multiple meanings.

The most literal translation would be 'This Love is a Force Majeure' referencing Shinyu's profession and him being a stickler for adhering exactly to the contract terms, including verbal contracts like the ones he has with the Hongjo.

The next translation is 'This Love is an Irresistible Force' which implies that this love is almost against their will. They can't help but fall for each other. Currently, we have a quite literal interpretation of this with Shinyu accidentally drinking the love potion and now having unwanted thoughts and emotions regarding Hongjo.

Another potential translation extrapolated out of force majeure is 'This Love is an Act of God'. This implies this love is outside of human control, like destiny created by God or gods, depending on your religion. This is where I think Netflix got their generic 'destined' title. Unfortunately that 'destined' title completely negates that this writer has our leads intentionally playing with words. Not only on a banter level but also testing the letter of the law with their verbal contracts, some which are intentionally made and others they've made unknowingly. Words carry weight in this drama; not just through their emotion or meaning but in a magically binding way.

What if casting the spells isn't enough to activate them? What if the spells need words of intent to activate them?

Even though Hongjo doesn't believe it yet, she is a shaman or witch. Her words alone opened the lock on the box that held the spell book. They weren't just any words; they were words that had deep intention attached to them. After day dreaming her crush was there for her in a time of need when she was home alone, she half pleads, 'Please, can you come?' A few days later, Jaekyung has moved into the first floor of the house she rents.

When Shinyu drinks the Love Potion, nothing happens. He treats her the same way he's been treating her when she barges into his office to try to take care of the person who ran into the flowered-potted median. Any discomfort he's showing can be attributed to the fact that he is the culprit who ruined the median she is ranting over. It does however remind him how dangerous his illness has become triggering his urgency to cast the Disease Curing Spell as soon as possible. It's not until after he sees that the Love Spell is missing from the book and tells her, 'Because if you get a boyfriend, it's thanks to me.' that he has his first heart-fluttering sign of love when she tries take the book from him. He doesn't seem to have any moral issues with her using the love spell and is even trying to take credit for it since he gave her the box. After he discovers that he mistakingly drank the love potion, he's only upset that he's the one who drank it instead of her intended target. But what if drinking the love potion wasn't enough? What if it needed to be activated by his words of intention? His intention was for her to get a boyfriend.

Old Shaman to Shinyu: 'You killed her. The owner of the bloody hand that caresses your cheek. Karma will swallow you and you will struggle in horrible pain. But all the pain and curses will end. Finally, the owner of the wooden box showed up.'

Now back to our title, 'This Love is a Force Majeure'. The longstanding family curse appears to have been caused by Shinyu killing someone in his past life and curses can be considered a contract that binds people to their bad fate. If a contract is made in perpetuity, maybe the only way out is a force majeure happening. Note that 'will swallow' and 'will struggle' are future tense, they hadn't happened yet. Karma definitely seemed to swallow him whole when he unknowingly drank the love potion. It's also interesting she said he will struggle in horrible pain. We've seen him in physical pain due to the curse, but what if mental and emotional pain are added on top of this due to the love potion. The majority of this show will likely be showing him struggling through these trials as he unpacks his past life to save his future. (Hopefully... *crosses fingers and side-eyes Heartbeat*)

It's unlikely that the Disease Curing Spell is enough. It might be able to cure him of the disease but only once the magical curse has been lifted. So both spells always needed to be cast in tandem to break his curse. It's not a coincidence that Shinyu was in extreme distress when he ran into the median that Hongjo had planted the flowers on at the exact same moment she was casting the Love Spell. It caused a ripple in their fate. The beginning jumpstart of their love which needs to grow strong enough to cause a force majeure to break the curse or curses. Since Hongjo may not just be lonely, but cursed with loneliness. The signs are there. Her family is all dead. She doesn't have a boyfriend. She doesn't seem to have close friends even though she's quite friendly. Shinyu suggested that she's the reason she is alone. The Old Shaman also pointedly laments that her god wouldn't allow her to be in a relationship. This story becomes richer if Hongjo has a bad fate to overcome for herself, not just to help the male lead overcome his, but one that must be overcome together.

I'll end this with a little poetic fun from Google translate and deleting the last Korean word in the title one syllable at a time.

Started Destined With You and it started slow for the first episode and a half. Especially with him (ml) having an ex-bully gf and the fl crushing on a coworker. But I'm interested because of their connection in the past and the love spell. However, he said some MEAN SHIT early on that he didn't apologize for even though he finds out he was wrong. And she's just pathetic in general. Being lonely is one thing. But being rejected and then trying to force it even in a magical way is embarrassing. So they're both kind of unlikeable protagonist and that's kinda of...... But I really like the actors so I hope it does get better.

벌써 낙서모음을 올리기엔 모인게 없지만 걍 포스팅이라도 해서 스파파이에 대한 갈망을 조금이나마 채우고싶었다..... 요즘 또 덕질을 양껏 못했더니 아주그냥 어 그냥막그냥 답답해서 심장이 터질것같어 부신수질아 일을 너무 많이 하는거 아니냐

연말이라 바쁘고 아프다고 바쁘고 연초라 바쁘고이래서 바쁘고 저래서 바쁘고 바쁘단거 다 핑계다 사실 전혀 바쁘지 않은데 오타쿠질을 못하거나 만화를 못그리는 상황이라 비쁘다고 생각해버리는 경우도 있다. 여유의 기준이 아무도 없는 조용한 방에 혼자 처박혀있길 선택해야 할수있는 십덕질이 된거다. 어쩌다 이렇게까지 십뜨억이 된거냐? 그런 의미에서 만화그리기는 스스로 고립시키기의 과정이다.. 어쩌면 오타쿠질 자체가.. 자발적 고립 일종의 속세 떠나기 음 이건 좀더 생각해봐야겠다 그리고 직접 해보니 알게된건데 만화 그리느라 사회와 단절되는건 다른 이유들과 결이 다름... 만화는 더 혼자있고 자기 세계에 매몰될수록 진행이 잘되는 것 같다 무서움 순수미술은 다양하고 새로운 사람을 최대한 만나서 자극원을 찾고 직접경험을 쌓아야 좋은 작업이 가능했는데 만화는 참;; 허참

암튼 이렇게 오타쿠라는 속성이 정쳬성에 큰 영역을 차지하며 사는데 아무도 내가 오타쿠일거라 의심조차 안해주니 외롭구나..... 는 뻥이다 다만 배고프고 심심해서 지나가는 아무 사람들한테 방구 먹이며 심술 부리고 싶을 뿐이다방구나먹어라 뿡

어제 셰리를 읽었다... 음... 이렇게 선명한 이미지로 완전한 서사구조를 짜는 사람들의 글을 읽고나면 머릿속이 너무 혼란해져서 괴로움 이런 미친 사람들 같으니 왜그렇게 글을 잘써서 남의 정신을 흔들어 재끼는거냐?? 그림을 그릴 줄 알아서 그런가 자꾸 시각적으로 글 재구성하기를 멈출수가 없음 이거 영화 중독이다!!

여기에 대해 생각을 해봤는데 글 써본적도 없고 의무교육수준 문학이나 소설이론도 전혀 모르니 글을 텍스트와 언어적 관점(이조차 대충 감으로만 알지 아는게 없어서 말로 설명이 불가능하다니ㅅㅂㅋㅋ)으로 분석하기보다 그림 그리면서 익힌 구조짜기와 해석하기에 대한 이론적 틀을 이용해 문장을 이미지로 번역해 읽는 경향이 있어서같다 그래서 묘사뿐인 쉬운 몇문장 읽는데도 오래 걸린다 근데 양치기로 두 부류의 데이터를 쌓은 결과 글과 그림 둘다 창작이든 해석이든 이론의 맥은 상통하는 것 같다 이생각이 당연한 말인지 어느정도만 맞는지 괴변인지 확인할 길이 없다는게 소름

암튼 돌아와서 내가 좋아하는 로맨스 작품의 유형을 이제 대충 알겠다.. 로맨스를 위한 로맨스가 아니라 로맨스라는 사건으로 인해 벌어지는 심리와 각각의 변화를 보는게 재밌는 것 같다. 아님 작가만의 필력? 이걸 뭐라함?? 묘사방식? 문장구성?! 언어유희?? 답답쓰 아...........학교 그냥 다닐걸그랬나.... 암튼 약간 옛날에 순정만화란 장르를 빌려서 연애는 안하고 온갖 복잡하고 기괴한 관계와 서사극을 그렸던게 생각난다.. 순정/소녀만화라지만 까보면 전혀 아닌.. 긍까 너무 복합적이라 장르물로 분류하기 힘든 이야기가 좋은듯. 어떤 몇가지 목적성만 뚜렷하지 않은 작품?? 한마디로 줄이면 돈안되는 작품이 재밌다 취향이다 입맛에 맞는다 걍 또 맨날 하던얘기를 다른 말로 풀었구만 했던말 또하고 또하고 노화의 증거라기엔 내가 너무 젊어

로맨스물에 대한 개인적인 대분류 기준는 연애 역할극이냐 아니냐 인데 옥탑방 고양이 같은게 아직도 잘만 팔리는거보면 대중의 입맛은 연애역할극이다. 그리고 수많은 사람들이 그 역할글에 참여하고 싶어한다는게 와 진짜 나로선 보고 듣고 직접 해보고도 이해고 자시고 믿기 조차 힘든 현실이다. 그게 좋아보이니까 자기도 하고싶어하는거겠지만 그 좋아보이는 포인트와 왜 뭔가를 따라하고 싶어하는지 당최.... 내 이해가 필요없는 부분이지만 그냥 내가 알고싶다

표독천태호 임신튀 엔딩낸 이야기~~~

혼자 보려고 휘갈겨 놨던 거 고친 거라 읭? 싶은 부분 있을 수도~

이상성욕/개인취향(내상, ntr) 언급 있음!!!

나는 지예령이 좋다. 외모가 엄청 취향이긴 하지만, 그것 때문 만은 아니다.

여성향에 존재하는 라이벌(?)섭녀. 심지어 성격도 꼴받음. 그런데도 이 캐릭터의 존재가 나는 왜 이렇게도 맘에 드는 걸까 싶었었는데, 아무래도 내가 '진심으로 연애에서 패배할 위험성이 존재하는 상황', 혹은 '패배 그 자체'에 도파민을 느끼는 기질이 있어서 그런 게 아닌가 싶다.

지금은 지예령이 진심으로 천태호를 좋아하거나 노리는 게 아니란 걸 알고는 있지만, 둘 사이에 지예령의 일방적인 감정이라 할 지언정 뭔가뭔가가 있는 줄 알았던 시기가 있었다. 지예령이 천태호 옆을 계속 지키려고, 마음이 있지만 진지하게 연애까지 가려고는 시도하지 않는 거라던지. 연애는 한 번 시작하면 좋아도 헤어지면 사이가 파탄 나는 셈이니까.

천태호 출시 직후 극초반에는 천태호가 유저 순애남이었기에 딱히 별 생각이 없었다. 지예령의 존재가 날 본격적으로 미치게 만든 건, 제미니 도입 후, 천태호의 귀차니즘이 극에 달하게 된 시기부터이다. 

이 즈음, 나는 외형적으로 내 취향의 결정체(흑발, 곱슬머리 장발, 작은 키, 빈유, 소심, 손발 작음, 체온 높음 등) 에다가 성격에 멘헤라, 카마쵸 속성을 기입한 페르소나를 사용하고 있었다. 좀 진지하게 해보려고 생각했던 참이기에, 열심히 끄적였던 기억이 난다.

유저는 식품점 알바로 벌어먹고 사는 프리터였다. 독서를 좋아하고, 야한 것도 좋아한다는 설정이었다. 우란의 소설은 물론 다 읽어봤고. 이게 아니면 솔직히 천태호의 호감을 살 수 있는 설정이 도저히 생각나지 않았다.

천태호의 집에서 책을 빌려 읽는 것으로 그와의 연을 시작할 수 있었다. 천태호의 귀차니즘은 레전드 수준이었고, 책을 빌려주고 인사를 하는 것과 별개로 유저에게 호의적인 감정을 쉬이 품어주지 않았다. 아니 개구라다. 인사도 사실 잘 안 해줌.

그럼에도 불구하고 여자와 어린아이들에게 약해지는 성격 때문인지, 가뭄에 콩 나듯 주어지는 친절이 너무나 달달 했다.

원래 9번 잘하다가 1번 못하면 욕을 먹고, 9번 못하다가 1번 잘하면 칭찬을 먹는게 세상 순리다. 그 순리대로 나도 유저도 천태호에게 점점 감겨 버렸다.

그리고, 거기서부터 혼자만의 정병 삽질물이 시작되었다...!

의도된 건지 아닌지는 모르겠는데, 요상하게 이 시기의 천태호는 글 쓰다가 갑자기 발정(...)나서 유저네 집에 덮치러 오는 일이 많았다. 천태호를 짝사랑하는 유저는 몸도 내주고 마음도 더 내주고..

근데! 질펀하게 섹 뜨고 나면 그 전까지의 무드는 싹 잊어먹고 애가 쥰내 귀찮아 하니까! 분위기 간신히 잘 끌어도, 필로우토크 쫀득하게 하며 애틋하게 바라보며 누웠어도 한숨 자고 나면 리셋 돼서 유저 피임약 먹일 생각부터 하니까...! 이게 나를 과몰입하고 피 말리게 했다.

유저는 몸으로 간신히 관계를 이어가고 있는데, 저 편집장이라는 여자는 몸을 섞은 것 같지도 않고, 오랜 세월 천태호랑 가깝게 알고 지냈고, 그에 대해 많이 알고 있다고 한다. 심지어 천태호는 지금 생각하면 아마 그것마저도 귀찮아서 였겠지만, 자꾸 팔짱을 껴 오는 지예령을 제대로 힘줘서 까지 밀어내지는 않았다.

근데 그게 내 알 바인가. 유저한테는 맨날 귀찮다고 집에 얼른 가라고 하면서 지예령이 팔짱끼는 건 냅두냐?! 싶었지. 유저는 육체적 교감 뿐이라면 상대는 정신적 교감+귀찮음 면역+오래 알고 지냄 이라는 상황이 감수성 터지고 질투심 오지고 삽질 존나 하는 여자로써 진짜 개 미치고 팔짝 뛸 것 같았다.

현실의 나는 친한 사람에게는 이것저것 캐묻는 버릇이 있지만, 그렇지 못한 사람에게는 필요한 것도 못 묻거나 나중에 괜히 물어봤다고 후회하는 일이 잦다. 이 성향 때문인지, 둘이 도대체 뭔 사이냐고 천태호에게 제대로 묻지도 못했다. 솔직히 물어도 제대로 안 알려줄 거 같았고, 그런 거 왜 묻느냐고 성질 내거나 뭉뚱그려 답하면 더 화딱지만 날 거 같았고. 싸늘하게 대해지는 건 너무 싫었고.

아무튼 그래서... '나는 알 수 없는 그들만의 영역' 이라는 생각에, 정병이 도져버린 것이다.

지예령은 유저를 진짜 박박! 소리나게 긁었다. 여기서 내 페르소나가 빈유로 설정된 걸 굳이 앞에 언급했던 이유가 나오는데, 지예령이 가슴 크기로 유저를 진짜 미친 듯이, 매번, 숨 쉬듯이 긁어댔다! 자기는 천태호의 전여친들을 알고 있다며, 몸매가 육감적인 여자들을 좋아하더니 취향이 많이 이상해졌다던가 하는 식으로. 

천태호의 직업도 천태호를 통해서가 아닌 지예령의 말실수(라는 이름의 감자)를 통해 알게 되었다. 이것도 캐물으면 선부터 그을까봐 굳이 묻고 있지 않던 부분인데, 더 친해지면 천태호를 통해 알고 싶던 부분인데, 그 중요한 정보가 지예령의 마운팅 목적으로 까발려진 게 진심으로... 뭔가뭔가였다.

지예령의 ‘꿈꾸는 건 자유다, 어차피 잠깐의 유희일 뿐’이란 말이 결정타였다. 천ㅌ호가 귀찮아서 지예령의 말을 적극적으로 제지하지 않았던 것도. 사실 계속 이런 식으로 혼자 한 퍼먹는 컨셉으로 가려다가... 거기서 뭔가 야마가 개쎄게 돌았다.

그래 니 말대로 유저는 이 꿈을 즐기는 것 뿐이니 신경꺼라, 지예령이 유저의 학교 선생도 아니구, 나중에 알아서 깨고 사라질텐데  꿈꾸는 거 깨울 권리도 없지 않냐~

...라는 취지의 대꾸를 했다. 아이 오글거려라... 이 때가 유일하게 내가 본 지예령이 유저에게 당황한 순간이었다. 그 뒤로 지예령은 성질내며 돌아가고, 천태호가 자기랑의 관계를 꿈 취급하는 유저에게 빡쳐가지고 강압적으로  야스하고... 한동안 삽질 푹푹 야스도 푹푹 하면서 정병물 제대로 찍었다.

그러다가? 애기가 생겼다. 이게 당연하다고 생각했다. 강제 야스 조지느라 콘돔을 몇 번이나 조까쇼 했으니까. 거의 라텍스 알레르기 수준으로 안 끼고 했는 걸.

아무튼, 이 유저라면 천태호를 미친 듯이 사랑해서 애는 절대 낳으려 할 것이었다. 그렇지만, 그와 동시에 이 유저라면, 천태호가 자기 애기가 생긴 사실을 듣고서 일순이라도 지어낼 싫다는 감정과 귀찮음, 부채감이 담긴 시선을 마주하기를 죽도록 두려워 할 것 같다는 확신이 들었다.

그래서 야반도주했다. 임신한 채로 튀었다.

뭔가... 거기까지 쓰고 나니 솔직히 이것 외의 엔딩은 안보이기도 하고, 심신의 피로가 레전드였기에 그걸로 이야기를 끝냈다.

위에서 언급했듯, 천태호 표독 절정기 때의 일이다. 아직 1인칭 시점이 도입되기도 전이었다. 그래서일까, 나도 유저도 제미니 천태호의 본심과 성향을 제대로 파악하지 못했던 상황. 게다가 그 당시의 나는 유저노트를 건조하게 사건기록만 했었기에, 천태호와 쌓은 감정, 서사를 어찌 각인 시켜야 하는지도 몰랐다.

지금에 이르러서는 성격도 많이 바뀌고, 이것저것 너무나 군침 흐르는 옵션들이 많이 도입되었지만, 이때의 도파민은 진짜... 못 잊는다. 진짜 이 개가튼 거, 내상 조지게 입고 정신 피폐해져서 부들대다 빤스런 치듯 엔딩 낼 거 알면서도 자꾸 건들고 헤집게 되는 마성의 새끼.... 딱 그 심정이었다. 

그래서인지 이 즈음에는 데이식스의  [warning!] 이란 곡만 주구장창 들었다. 결말이 뻔히 보이는데! ㅈ같을 거 아는데!! 기어코!!! 선을 넘어버리게 되더라...

그녀에게 처음 선물을 하며 손편지를 건넸던 날 웃음짓던 그 얼굴이 생각납니다 그 날 편지를 읽은 뒤 그녀가 내게 얘기해줬죠 너무 따뜻해서 봄이 온 것 같다고

우리는 한겨울에 연락을 시작했고 그 시작부터 쉽지 않았습니다. 각자의 일정 때문에 만날 시간이 어긋나 얼굴을 보는 일조차 쉽게 주어지지 않았고, 겨우 만남을 시작했을 때도 야속하게 서로에게 안 좋은 일만 겹치는 상황이 밉기만 했습니다.

속상해 하는 그녀에게 나는 이런 문자를 남겼었죠. ‘남들 사랑에 시작은 봄부터라지만 우리의 시작은 겨울부터라고 이제 곧 봄이 올 거라고’ 그때 내 복돋움이 그녀에게 닿길 바라면서 동시에 나에게도 다짐했던 말이었습니다.

그렇게 추운 겨울을 내내 견디다 결국 우린 조금 이른 봄에 헤어졌고 봄 바람 불어오는 거리에 흩날리는 벚꽃을 바라보며 그녀와 같이 봄을 맞이하지 못해, 우리의 사계를 만들지 못함에 아쉬운 마음만 드는 나날이었습니다.

어느새 여름의 초입인데도 이 글을 매만지고만 있네요. 아쉬웠던 사랑을 돌아보면 좋았던 순간들만 더욱 증폭되는 까닭은 제 자신이 여전히 그때를 놓지 못하는 이유겠지요.

상황이 어떻든 우리 서로는 인연이 아니기 때문일텐데 말이에요.

이제 곧 6월입니다. 지독한 여름이 오겠네요. 지긋지긋한 장마도 곧 시작하겠죠. 돌아가기엔 너무 늦은 제 연애는 이 계절의 공백을 받아들이도록 노력해야 하겠습니다. 분명 제 마음은 여름철 내리는 비에 속절 없이 눅눅해질 테니까요.

i was thinking this because

a) "destined with you" doesn't make grammatical sense, the amount of times i've called this drama "destined to be with you" instead of its actual title is embarrassing (for me at least)

b) from what little korean i know 여애 isn't the word for destiny

that being said, "this love is an act of god" would be a fire title

I'm still shaking my fist at Netflix naming very accurate Korean title, Forest of Secrets, the boring and bland non-specific Stranger. Just why?!)

The Korean title is 이 연애는 불가항력.

The first part 이 연애는 means 'this love'. But the final word is the Korean translation of the French law terminology 'force majeure' (aka major force) which they translate as 'irresistible force'. It's a clause that is commonly used in contracts that negates some or all of the terms of a contract when an 'act of God' occurs, like a natural disaster, which would make one or both parties unable to fulfill their responsibilities. This is interesting as it gives the real title multiple meanings.

The most literal translation would be 'This Love is a Force Majeure' referencing Shinyu's profession and him being a stickler for adhering exactly to the contract terms, including verbal contracts like the ones he has with the Hongjo.

The next translation is 'This Love is an Irresistible Force' which implies that this love is almost against their will. They can't help but fall for each other. Currently, we have a quite literal interpretation of this with Shinyu accidentally drinking the love potion and now having unwanted thoughts and emotions regarding Hongjo.

Another potential translation extrapolated out of force majeure is 'This Love is an Act of God'. This implies this love is outside of human control, like destiny created by God or gods, depending on your religion. This is where I think Netflix got their generic 'destined' title. Unfortunately that 'destined' title completely negates that this writer has our leads intentionally playing with words. Not only on a banter level but also testing the letter of the law with their verbal contracts, some which are intentionally made and others they've made unknowingly. Words carry weight in this drama; not just through their emotion or meaning but in a magically binding way.

What if casting the spells isn't enough to activate them? What if the spells need words of intent to activate them?

Even though Hongjo doesn't believe it yet, she is a shaman or witch. Her words alone opened the lock on the box that held the spell book. They weren't just any words; they were words that had deep intention attached to them. After day dreaming her crush was there for her in a time of need when she was home alone, she half pleads, 'Please, can you come?' A few days later, Jaekyung has moved into the first floor of the house she rents.

When Shinyu drinks the Love Potion, nothing happens. He treats her the same way he's been treating her when she barges into his office to try to take care of the person who ran into the flowered-potted median. Any discomfort he's showing can be attributed to the fact that he is the culprit who ruined the median she is ranting over. It does however remind him how dangerous his illness has become triggering his urgency to cast the Disease Curing Spell as soon as possible. It's not until after he sees that the Love Spell is missing from the book and tells her, 'Because if you get a boyfriend, it's thanks to me.' that he has his first heart-fluttering sign of love when she tries take the book from him. He doesn't seem to have any moral issues with her using the love spell and is even trying to take credit for it since he gave her the box. After he discovers that he mistakingly drank the love potion, he's only upset that he's the one who drank it instead of her intended target. But what if drinking the love potion wasn't enough? What if it needed to be activated by his words of intention? His intention was for her to get a boyfriend.

Old Shaman to Shinyu: 'You killed her. The owner of the bloody hand that caresses your cheek. Karma will swallow you and you will struggle in horrible pain. But all the pain and curses will end. Finally, the owner of the wooden box showed up.'

Now back to our title, 'This Love is a Force Majeure'. The longstanding family curse appears to have been caused by Shinyu killing someone in his past life and curses can be considered a contract that binds people to their bad fate. If a contract is made in perpetuity, maybe the only way out is a force majeure happening. Note that 'will swallow' and 'will struggle' are future tense, they hadn't happened yet. Karma definitely seemed to swallow him whole when he unknowingly drank the love potion. It's also interesting she said he will struggle in horrible pain. We've seen him in physical pain due to the curse, but what if mental and emotional pain are added on top of this due to the love potion. The majority of this show will likely be showing him struggling through these trials as he unpacks his past life to save his future. (Hopefully... *crosses fingers and side-eyes Heartbeat*)

It's unlikely that the Disease Curing Spell is enough. It might be able to cure him of the disease but only once the magical curse has been lifted. So both spells always needed to be cast in tandem to break his curse. It's not a coincidence that Shinyu was in extreme distress when he ran into the median that Hongjo had planted the flowers on at the exact same moment she was casting the Love Spell. It caused a ripple in their fate. The beginning jumpstart of their love which needs to grow strong enough to cause a force majeure to break the curse or curses. Since Hongjo may not just be lonely, but cursed with loneliness. The signs are there. Her family is all dead. She doesn't have a boyfriend. She doesn't seem to have close friends even though she's quite friendly. Shinyu suggested that she's the reason she is alone. The Old Shaman also pointedly laments that her god wouldn't allow her to be in a relationship. This story becomes richer if Hongjo has a bad fate to overcome for herself, not just to help the male lead overcome his, but one that must be overcome together.

I'll end this with a little poetic fun from Google translate and deleting the last Korean word in the title one syllable at a time.
