𝙒𝙊𝙍𝙆𝙄𝙉𝙂  𝙄𝘿𝙀𝘼𝙎  𝙁𝙊𝙍  𝘽𝙐𝘾𝙆𝙔'𝙎  𝙒𝙀𝙍𝙀𝙒𝙊𝙇𝙁!𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙎𝙀.

Bucky  is  either  bit  by  a  werewolf  or  a  curse  is  put  on  him.   I'm  purposefully  leaving  this  part  open  for  the  sake  of  plotting  in  verses  ,         (  and  think  it  could  be  cool  with  playing  with  it  being  a  bite  or  a  curse.  )   which  isn't  so  much  important  as  it  is  helpful  for  plotting.

His  shifting  isn't  controlled  by  the  moon  but  rather  dependent  on  his  control  over  that  wolf  side.   Eventually  he'll  get  control  to  shift  back  and  forth  at  will  ,  but  at  first  there's  a  few  moments  here  and  there  where  random  shifting  happens  ,  for  the  fun  of  it.

That  being  said  ,  he  is  prone  to  shifting  more  when  there  is  a  full  moon.   It's  just  more  dependent  on  his  emotions  and  less  controlled  by  the  phase  of  the  moon.

Bucky  turns  into  a  white  lupine  style  werewolf.   He  grows  to  when  he  shifts  ,  though  I  haven't  decided  yet  as  to  how  much  bigger  he  gets  ,  as  opposed  to  his  normal  6'1  height.

HE  HAS  A  TAIL  WHEN  HE  SHIFTS!   A  nice  floofy  one  that  does  wag  when  he's  excited  or  happy.         (  if  you  make  fun  of  it  you  WILL  get  a  grumpy  Bucky  it's  just  the  rules.  )

I'm  back  and  forth  on  if  it's  something  reversible.   I'm  certainly  open  to  the  idea  of  finding  a  cure  and  all  ,  but  I  also  think  there's  benefits  to  him  not  being  able  to  get  rid  of  it.   And  working  with  that  new  part  of  himself.         (  then  of  course  there's  the  fun  au  where  that's  just  the  species  he  is  )   so  things  on  this  will  likely  be  left  open  ended  for  the  sake  of  rp.

What if like Bucky in the comics helps reforming agents defecting , he adopts kids who had parents who messed up with various villains and met their end? What if some of those parents were killed by him? What if he made it right by always looking after them?

Bucky DOES NOT like wearing clothes to bed. If you are lucky , you can get him to agree to briefs , and that's it. He prefers to be nude when he sleeps simple because of a sensory thing. He tends to keep really soft bedding , because he's found soft textiles relax him. ( silk , fuzzy blankets that sorta thing. ) So being able to feel that around him if he wakes up from a nightmare is helpful. Bucky prefers sleeping in the nude. That's it , that's the post.

SOME LITTLE HEADCANONS ABOUT BUCKY BARNES.

we don't follow the mcu canon of his defecting from HYDRA , but rather bucky actually runs at the time of the episode 'What If' , where bucky is woken up in a moment before killing peter quill , and decides run in a fit of confusion and desperation to know who he is.

the winter soldier found out about bucky on his own. he went off on his own , spent a lot of time in hiding , moving from one place to another while trying to find information. given the war hero he was , this wasn't difficult to accomplish. learning the truth about who he was caused him to develop a new mission to destroy all of HYDRA.

the trigger words still exist but not like in the mcu. i was never a fan of the whole no personality ws they had in the mcu , and much prefer the way the winter soldier is in the comics. so i've mixed the two together. the trigger words are a failsafe. just in case it's more difficult to get the soldier to act. primarily used in high tense situations , and if the asset ever decided to go rogue. when bucky was made into the winter soldier , it was a careful combination of elecrocis , being frozen for extended periods of time , among other things until he completely forgot who he was. while bucky was on the run he found his own way to break the conditioning. though it took a considerable amount of time.

the serum doesn't keep injuries from happening just lessens them. if a bone breaks , it needs to be reset. if he gets shot , he's still been shot. the serum only made bucky more durable , but not invincible. his skin is tougher than normal people , but he can still be cut and bleed. joints have been damaged over time being the winter soldier. with little care to the assets health aside from remaining operational , he was required to make hasty fixes while in the field. as a result of this , bucky suffers from chronic pain even now.

bucky barnes still goes by the winter soldier moniker. another thing i wasn't so sure i liked about the mcu , considering in the comics bucky often keeps the name the winter soldier , as it still strikes fear into his enemies. it was a name given to him by the enemy , but like his suit , he uses it for his own purposes. not allowing them to have that power over him , and more importantly the fear instilled by the name , that his hands did.

as far as event of thunderbolts* bucky still founds and runs thunderbolts. it's his team , and he takes pride in leading it. the new avengers thing never happens with my bucky , because my bucky would never do that. he still has the dad!vibes like i've seen him have from what i've seen of the movie. but when writing anything to do with the thunderbolts , i'll be using more comic inspiration along with my own headcanons and lore.

Bucky has mastered the art of the quick change in his time as The Winter Soldier. I know we typically see him in the gear when he's doing the WS bit , but let's also remember that as far as the comics are concerned , most of the major assassinations in his time he had a hand in.

i personally do not adhere to his kill count nat mentions. his kill count is far higher than that , i'm sorry.

While he does have the gear on during missions , The Winter Soldier was trained to be the perfect killer. He never left a witness , and nobody ever saw him. In order to accomplish this , you need to be able to get away without anyone seeing you. The art of the quick change on the run was made very popular during the cold war , a time when The Winter Soldier was very active and being utilized. It was probably some of the longest stretches of time when he was out of the cryosleep. They needed the asset to be able to get out of any location unseen , so he needed to know how to blend in. For this reason , he was taught quick changes and how to do them on the run. Losing sight of him for even a couple seconds while on the chase in a crowd of people , and unless you can smell the difference in people ... odds are you've lost him or are about to. Every second is a change in his appearance. Resulting in him being able to completely change his appearance in under a minute with enough coverage.

this is accomplished with various in his mission pack , a mask sometimes , hat and sometimes stolen items on the run.

Since his combat training from his time acting as The Winter Soldier , he's also kept the various covert training he had been given. It comes in handy more often than not , and he'll even do a bit of practice with it as he does with the rest of his training to keep his skills sharp.

It always gives a really weird feeling when people call Bucky James. For the most part , Bucky goes by Bucky , and will likely not answer when you call him James. James was a name he heard when he was in trouble. It was the name he heard from George the most. He much prefers Bucky , and will introduce himself in that way. People calling him ANYTHING but Bucky is likely to get a reaction. Exceptions of this being very select people , but please understand there's a reason for him not really liking going by James.
