also something i Might do once my old asks are answered / drafts are cleaned out (so many drabbles) is make a new tdp sideblog.
i'll still keep this one up as an archive of my old stuff because i don't want to lose it (and work on transferring stuff over over time), but i've always been somewhat overwhelmed by the attention/amount of followers this one has received and never wanted to be a bnf to begin with (it is my personal hell). making a new blog to hopefully cull follower counts and subsequent attention is, admittedly, an option/idea i've had in the back of my head for at least 2 years (maybe 3 bc i feel like i'd thought about it in that last year pre-S4 but i can't remember), so... starting somewhere from relative scratch might be worthwhile.
it'll still be obvious the blog is me (something like my current url with a little number add on or whatever), i'm not trying to hide, or anything, and i'll also link it here if it does happens (i might feel better/differently later or decide it feels like too much work) but. having a non bnf tdp blog sounds lovely and much more relaxing. a lot of people inevitably won't follow and those who do will hopefully be friendly / more engaged, and that sounds so much better. maybe, if i'm not too busy with revisions this summer, i'd get through all my drafted stuff here by septemer-ish or can transfer leftover stuff there after the fact

I'M COMING HOME MARTHA, SWEETIE!
Tumblr media
My official return will be NEXT WEEKEND. As I'm super heckin busy tomorrow and Sunday, and all next week I'm doin a fundraising stream for a friendo! I do miss you goobers, the silly little people who live inside my computer [which is totally true, because I made it up]. But seriously-- thank you for your patience during this kinda month-long hiatus. I'm gonna work on setting up Stone and Tadashi's blogs if I've got free time this weekend, and NEXT weekend I'll be back in full swing with memes and replies.
I may just yeet most of the old stuff [2+ months] out of my drafts. But if there's a particular thread you'd like me to keep going, PLEASE let me know and I'll do my best to reply to it!
Also suggestions are open for the Featured Muse upon my return! So far the only [eligible] nominees are Axel and Ping. [Stone and Tadashi are both getting their own dedicated sideblogs!] Stone will be a sideblog to @huevodiablo and Tadashi will be a sideblog here, to nerditudes! Again, I can't thank y'all enough for your patience. Health and mental health can be a crapshoot sometimes, and I'm extremely thankful to have such compassionate and understanding writing partners!

FOP Sideblog Update - Sept. 2024
Hi! This lovely ol' sideblog's been tidied up in light of A New Wish! I have a new AU for New Wish works. Let's talk about it!
Main blog - @fountainpenguin
Tumblr media
My FFN - My AO3
Sideblog masterpost
Housekeeping Updates
- New avatar - @zachbrightside and I updated our FOP sonas. Tossed the headcanon'd honorary pixie hat on mine! :) Shout-out to that one kid in "School of Crock" who wore this hat with no explanation. And squared my gal's wings! Experimented with pink and purple hair options, but I like the brown too much to change.
- Fixed all broken masterpost links - Checked 3 or 4 times, so let me know if you find something wrong.
- Added things to the masterpost that weren't there (Ex: Art section)
- Combed through every post and changed the bullet point system so they're easier to read, following format update from several years ago that condensed the spacing between bulleted items.
-> As part of this, I've used indents and dashes in place of bullets in many posts. I've also added periods on otherwise blank lines to force blank space, as the blank space is another thing we lost during that format update.
-> This is so posts will look better on the dashboard. The dots may seem odd when viewed directly on the blog, but it definitely makes it easier to not lose my place while editing long posts. Also, they should be more readable now than they would be if they're reblogged to others' dashboards without this change.
- I combed through the short bios and long profiles and divided paragraphs more. There were many bulky paragraphs that have now been divided in a way that should make posts - especially these big profiles - easier to read.
-> Cleaned the "Appearances" sections of the long profiles. They used to list each 'fic that character is in, but now they have a labeled AO3 link to works written by me that include that character. Sleek, clean, and automatically updates!
- Shout-out to me having Dale Dimmadome already down as one of H.P. and Sanderson's past godkids 5+ years ago. I knew that was my headcanon, but I did not remember that was on his profile and I'm glad it was, haha... oh no. I don't know what my plan is for that in light of New Wish, but I'll figure it out.
- Changed posts that called my canon Riddleverse Classic to say Cloudlands AU, since that's the new name for my series. Left the name Riddleverse for posts that encompass multiple AUs.
-> Updated my Icebreaker post with this and other new info
- Deleted any posts tagged as "Delete later"
- I have a lot of long profiles and other posts saved to my drafts from years ago. Once Tumblr shifted to the new format (including with the queue), it became so distressing and ever-changing that I struggled a lot to find my footing.
Ex: They took away line dividers, which I thought was frustrating since I used those on my long posts and found them helpful. I was holding out hope they'd return. - Some posts (like my wing refs and the giant 20k-word class overviews) kept getting flagged if I edited them, and I was worried I'd lose my stuff or have the account deleted - Back then, the queue would only tell me which day of the week something was posting, not which month or day. It was just overwhelming to create a schedule or keep track of my stuff, so I took a break from Tumblr in general.
These days, I'm much more comfortable with the editor and my queue is now more specific about deadlines. I look forward to posting here again!
I won't be on a schedule, and the big character profiles do take a lot out of me, but my plan back in the day was to release one a month. Might be able to get to there! If not, maybe the short bios.
Future of this FOP Sideblog
- More worldbuilding posts! I let this blog sit a long time because I felt like I'd said all my worldbuilding and the only thing to do now was profiles and bios (which I was reluctant to prioritize when I felt "behind" in my 'fics).
However, I found some things I'd never moved to this blog, such as my notes on aging. I'd like to post that and others I found.
- No longer hesitant about sharing stuff for "weird" characters or OCs. I had a post about celebrity kids (Poof's age and younger) that I never posted because I didn't think anyone would care about my headcanons for Simon Sparklefield (who only appears in one obscure episode I don't count as fully canon anyway) or Billy Crystal Ball (also obscure) but... Hey, that's why you're here, isn't it? So let's talk celebrities!
In other words, I'd like to bring this blog back as the unapologetic place to share my FOP things. We have references to canon characters and talk of OCs (like Hadley, Emery, Whistle, Soren, China, Anti-Saffron, Kalysta, Iris, Idona... List goes on.)
- This blog will have more polished fanart than the doodles from my main blog
- Polished 'fic cover images will be reblogged here. By this, I mean the posts I do on my main blog that outline what to expect from a 'fic. I won't reblog my general chapter announcements; I don't want to flood this blog with those.
- 130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash's cover will be reblogged, but the posts for individual trains won't be. - Existing cover images will get new, polished posts for their 'fics before I reblog them here.
- I went through the blog and added the tag "Cloudlands AU" to many posts, apart from a few I'm still hesitant to edit (or where it didn't seem worth noting). Cloudlands AU refers to my lore for the 11 seasons of the main series (i.e. including the "Oh Yeah!" shorts), and this is what my sideblog was meant for.
- The reason for this new tag is to separate it from City Lights AU: my new AO3 series for works about New Wish. These works are not compliant with Cloudlands AU, which was designed years ago.
Ex: Peri and Irep will get a short bio on this blogged tagged as City Lights AU to explain what we're setting up for their characters over there, distinct from the existing short bio for Poof and Foop in Cloudlands AU (who are very well established in their arcs). In other words, I'm not rewriting Cloudlands AU canon to fit with A New Wish, but I still want to write works for New Wish. Expect bios and art for Hazel and Dev here someday (and others).
The next thing I post will be Hadley's full character profile (now with updates that are compliant with A New Wish).
After that, I'll reblog my Cloudlands AU and City Lights AU guides to this blog so they'll be under their tags and on the masterlist.
When that's all done, I'd like to knock out full character profiles for Dale, Dev, and Hazel when I can (in addition to finishing my drafts for Cosmo, Wanda, Poof, and Foop). Long, slow process, but it would be cool to have those things done by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
Feeling decent about my idea for Hazel's birthdate. I have nice options for Dev, but no commitment until Zach and I nail down where "Operation: Birthday Takeback" goes in our New Wish timeline. Enjoying the process so far! -> Dev's b-day is QUITE the toss-up between options like "National Day of Unplugging," "Plant a Lemon Tree Day," and the absolutely golden combo of "Pizza Party & Virtual Assistants Day." And perhaps others we've not investigated!
I think that's everything! Hopefully, this is the last "blog news" announcement we have for a while, and the blog can return to being a landing spot for fanart and story meta.
As always, the sideblog's Asks are closed as I want to maintain a consistent feel for this blog. You can reach out to my main blog (Askbox here) if you want to ask a worldbuilding question.
Additionally, I'm interested in following other people's worldbuilding / AUs so I can engage more with the community, especially those passionate about FOP worldbuilding. -> I'm open to self-advertisement if you want to shoot me an Ask on my main blog telling me where I can find your work! -> I'd prefer to follow a blog that is primarily for FOP worldbuilding / art / 'fics (or subscribe to an AO3 series for FOP works), but I'm open to consideration if your blog is multi-fandom! My preference: Thoughtful takes on characters and world that dig deeper than just ship art / ship 'fics- Nothing against shipping, but I'm more interested in character analyses and worldbuilding. Bonus points for a focus on miserable children, Dale lemonade trauma, Pixies, or Timmy growing up to lose his memories and live an average human life. If you don't fit this, you can still recommend your AU and I'll check it out, but that's my wishlist :) Also, if there's anyone who makes Timmy/Molly content, you are my hero and should totally link me your work.
It's such an honor to see so many followers of this sideblog despite its long absence! To those of you interested in staying with me as we enter this next phase, thank you very much - it means a lot to me - and I hope you enjoy browsing!
And to anyone who's lost interest, thank you for spending time while you were here <3
One last note - My goal has always been to reblog others' fanart for my 'fics here, but most of them are still sitting in my drafts, unreblogged. I'll queue those up. I'm always delighted to receive gift art! Feel free to tag @riddledeep and I'll reblog it here! Same goes for gift 'fics, so don't hesitate to share!

WINDOW WINDOW DIRECTORY
SUMMARY
A brief look into what kind of story Window Window is, and other information like when you can expect the comic to be out. [HERE]
CONTENT WARNINGS
Sensitive subject matter that will appear in Window Window. I strongly suggest looking through this before reading. There will also be a page for content warnings on the site once I have it up. [HERE]
CREDITS
Shouting out everyone who's helped me with the comic! And I mean everybody. [HERE]
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
WINDOW WINDOW EVILPOSTING
TAGGING SYSTEM
# window window → this tag is going to be on EVERYTHING. Character references, writing about said characters, other doodles, additional worldbuilding that might not make it into the comic, you get the idea!
# [character name] ww → character tags for Window Window. Since some characters' names are more common and it's not impossible that there are people out there who might share them, I add "ww" at the end so we're all on the same page. (Any resemblances to any real people are COINCIDENCE and UNINTENTIONAL!)
# window window updates → I will be posting announcements for the comic updates (and any updates on the process of putting everything together behind the scenes) here and giving it a separate tag so that, and anticipated update schedules, are easier to find!
# window window concept art → rough drafts, panel ideas, anything that I want to share that will not be present in the comic without a lot of polishing first
# window window worldbuilding → lore posting! and anything, and I mean ANYTHING, that doesn't get to shine or really appear in Window Window directly. Background characters, pop culture, rumors and speculation circulating the Labyrinth from the outside point of view, things like that!
# window window interrogation room → Q&A! The ask box will stay open unless people get weird with it! Feel free to ask about the characters and whatever else you'd like; if it's something I'm comfortable sharing and not spoiler territory, I'm more than happy to answer!
# window window nonsense posting → window window nonsense posting
WHAT YOU'LL FIND ON THIS BLOG
I like to play and draw. That's it. This sideblog is where I evilpost about these characters and about whatever worldbuilding I can get away with!
The official comic won't be here, but I will be posting about the comic and progress updates on this sideblog! (For archive purposes a lot of it may also be transferred to the Neocities website once I get that running. I have absolutely no idea how to code but I've seen several friends of mine either have sites there or consider it so My Turn Now)

Been binge reading TVM and I LOVE IT. Bowman was already my favorite character but this story has already skyrocketed for me just how much I adore him. Though Felix is a very close second just cause of how he is with Carmen. I’d also love to know more about the Rangers.
1. Did you draw from any particular real world inspiration for them?
2. What’s the backstory behind how the Rangers came to be? Any little stories of particularly notable members you’ve thought up?
Yay awesome.. it's definitely the bowman book so I'm glad the focus on him is working hehe
1. Yes! The rangers are almost entirely a play on the Fianna, a band of heroes and hunters from Irish mythology. I strongly recommend you check out their stories because they're some of the greatest stories you'll ever read - start with the salmon of knowledge and then try diarmaid and gráinne. Fun fact, in older drafts of my books I call the rangers The Fianna but I found it messy.
As for real world inspiration, there's actual irl rangers as well, stewards of national parks and rare habitats. The rangers in Inver do not fight faeries so much as they manage the Ruad and ensure it is safe, and in Pascal's time (the far off distant future of 2017) rangers have become more ecologists than anything else, as their deep knowledge of the region and huge archives of faery activity over the centuries lends itself wonderfully to monitoring habitat health. So many of the ecologists I know were also used as inspiration hehe
2. The rangers of the Ruad (not the Greys) were founded by Finbarr Ó Casaide as part of the war that founded the state of Inver. He and the first rangers built the main Spikes barracks because (if you check the habitat map you'll see) there's a broad stretch of ancient yew wood north of the Lough, ideal for making bow staves. So Finbarr was a Spikes ranger. He and the others engaged in guerilla warfare against the werewolves led by the first D'Ouilly traitor, in particular the Tanet sect.
This is a short book I do want to write (it's on the table!!) eventually but you can find out more about Finbarr and his mortal enemy Olivier by searching the names on my blog. I'm stuck on mobile for the time being but I did write a pretty long summary of the pair of them and their relationship dynamic a few months ago.
Notable rangers include Finbarr himself but also Bowman André, who was the ranger who drafted the treaty between ranger organisations and the new werewolf monarchy, enshrining the terms of their operations in the Ruad into law. Although Finbarr's side lost their war, André's negotiations led to the current state of the ranger barracks as both gender neutral and independent of royal law, self-governing and so on. These wins came from the fact that any time the monarchy tried to employ its own army into the Ruad to protect trade or fight faeries or whatever, the soldiers would inevitably desert, or start pissing and moaning about it and why can't we just get the rangers to do the work instead. The flip side ofc was that most rangers are convicts who joined or were pressed into the service, because so few people willingly join an organisation that forces you to spend months at a time in the most dangerous habitat known to man, with no-one but other rangers for company.
Another notable ranger is Sharps Captain Torben, he's extremely famous and well-liked in the Régian [victorian] era due to his notoriously kind and gentle touch, as well as his good decision making skills meaning that there were almost no civilian fatalities under his watch for years at a time.
Finally another famous ranger is Hooks Captain Celeste, in 1969 she anticipated the disaster that almost swept Cánamac town away and ordered an evacuation before the tidal wave struck the town. I've written about that disaster on my sideblog @ranticore ;)

fic writer questions
tagged by @liamlawsonlesbian MWAH ily <3333 I was tagged over at my rpf sideblog but I started doing this and realised how pan-fandom my account is :D
how many works do you have on AO3?
158 fics on my profile, stats page tells me it's 195 including anoned fics. sounds about right
what's your total ao3 word count?
slightly over 1 mil (1.030 mil apparently)
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
older ones in big fandoms. I killed a clown. AMA! & no sense of living without aim (IT Movies); some new beginning & good old-fashioned lover boy (Good Omens); Once More, with Feeling (Ted Lasso) <- ok this one is from last year and the fandom isn't that huge, I just got lucky with post timing.
do you respond to comments? why or why not?
I DO I love comments!! I think people taking some time to let you know they liked something is amazing. I want to reply to that and also feed more comments
what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Considering I have written character death a few times... I think my angstiest fic is probably my Ted Lasso big bang entry, one more time around, not so much because of the ending but because of the emotional beats. It's an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind AU with all that entails (memory loss) & there's an open ending that could be read as hopeful!!! but I still think the flashback scenes are #angst
what's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
OHHHH. Good question. I'm not a pure fluff person but I like happy endings. Probably my some of my "fix it" stuff, like well I rose, and I rose (Captive Prince, Theomedes lives); and (I think) the kids are in trouble (IT movies)
do you write crossovers?
Not often, I feel like it requires a lot of skill to make work. I've written two short crossovers I really like: The Art of Survival (ASOIAF & The Inheritance Cycle) and my body on the waves (The Old Guard & Pirates of the Caribbean)
have you ever received hate on a fic?
Throwback to the time I got twitter cancelled for writing age difference selfcest and someone left me this fuckass essay after they attacked me somewhere more public (cringe) and I said I would respond to concrit if they had it. I will always think with pride about the line "Another positive is to recognize that you are indeed a good writer. That's partly a negative because without that I probably would not have read on. Morbid curiosity can only take you so far and it's easier to dismiss something that's been poorly written." <- thank u hater <3
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
I write lots of emotionally horny smut that often doubles as character study (not only bc I have literary ambitions in my smut just because I think it's hot). I only rate a fic E when the smut is detailed enough that I think "somebody could potentially get off reading this". Otherwise it's M.
have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope! Many of my fics were written as exchange gifts to somebody else so I hope it never happens.
have you ever had a fic translated?
yessssss <3 I have a blanket permission to translate / remix / podfic so knock yourself out
have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not YET but I workshop so many fic ideas with friends. One day maybe.
what's your all-time favorite ship?
Honestly, probably Vegeta/Bulma from DBZ. My het ship blueprint.
what's a wip that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
Some of my old Captive Prince drafts, probably. And no sense of living without aim, my IT Eddie/Richie fic... I got so much fandom drama that year that I could never finish the last chapter. But my heart didn't want to put it on this list so maybe there's hope yet.
what are your writing strengths?
I think I'm very good at setting up emotional beats and making character voices feel distinct, both dialogue and POV
what are your writing weaknesses?
Action :/
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I think it's cool if it's used in a way where it enriches the story. The reader should be able to understand what it means from context, without needing an in-text translation, and if you're using a limited POV the character should be able to understand at least some words in the language <- those are pet peeves of mine
what was the first fandom you wrote for?
First fic I ever wrote was Eragon (Paolini) when I was in middle school to show to my friend. First fic I ever posted was also Eragon on FFN. First fic I posted on AO3 I believe was ASOIAF or maybe the Vampire Diaries.
what's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
As I was tagged on this from Roman Holiday Chalex AU Jo Liamlawsonlesbian on the RPF sideblog. Chalex. In terms of fandom probably.... well.... BTVS / spuffy. Also this one time an anon on FFA named me among the authors they'd have liked to see writing Oasis RPF. I've been thinking about it
what's your favourite fic you've written?
It depends! I have SO many children. Some faves in my most recent fandoms: my voice in your head (F1 RPF rule 63 femslash); as lost as lost can be (Ted Lasso, Roy & Isaac); After Me, the Flood & at the last trumpet (Locked Tomb, Ianthe/Augustine /& John fic & Reverend Parents doing child assassination fic)

Introspection for week 1 of @the-wip-project's Getting to know your story (through writing it).
I've really fallen out of the habit of doing regular solo writing in the last year or so (or… kind of longer than that, 2023 was comically horrible for us), so I signed up for this as an accountability thing to help me get back into it.
And then in the leadup to it I outlined a separate thing and realized, well, that's not really the point of the WIP Project thing, is it? So I grabbed another idea from the barrel that I keep putting off because I could never get my thoughts together to make a useful outline. We're wingin' it.
The characters are super familiar to me, but I'm grabbing them from a period of time where their motivations and drives are different from what I'm used to, specifically to force myself to ask if they've already developed the traits that make them who they will be in the future -- and a lot of the time so far, the answer has been "kinda but mostly not really", which is exciting to me.
And obviously it's fanfic, that's why I'm posting this on my Dragon Age sideblog (but I did sign up with ~bogunicorn I promise it's just me)
Set in 9:34 in Ostwick right after the Qunari uprising in Kirkwall, Thayet Trevelyan is a Templar in the Ostwick Circle -- a position that she took in order to protect her younger brother, who is her father's illegitimate son. Her closest friend and ally is Aeryk, the First Enchanter who ended up in a southern Circle after fleeing Tevinter 11 years ago. When she manages to convince her mother's family that her half-brother is actually her full brother so that they'll collect him from the Circle and bring him to Minrathous for freedom and education, she also finagles a legal escape from Ostwick for Aeryk -- with the condition that they marry before they make it back to Minrathous. They make it to Tevinter's capitol, and then… I don't know because I haven't gotten there but I hope it's good drama.
I've written Thayet a lot, especially in private storylines with my partner, and only gotten to write Aeryk a bit, since he's the wife's character that I have some shared custody of (which means I enjoy writing him a ton, I love him, he's so cool). Their interplay is really fun to write, especially when it feels so different from an RP-style narrative; when you do that kind of writing, the audience for it is really just the people writing the narrative and pretty much nobody else, so I tend to put in jokes or asides that I think will make my partner laugh or that I find fun but cheap. But if I'm writing for an audience of people I'm not in direct conversation with, the relationship with the audience is totally different, so the places in the narrative where there might be in-jokes, or very long conversations that are allowed to meander, or some other signs of RP-as-an-activity that don't really apply to solo writing, I end up having to fill in with details that anchor them so they're readable to strangers.
My wife is beta reading for me, and my first draft of the first chapter had some pacing issues that were making the foundation shaky, so to speak. It was just a bit too quick, and while the romance was certainly there, it was relying too much on the vibes of the other fanfic that it's sort of spun off from, when I really don't want to make that a pre-requisite read. In adding trying to mend a janky transition, I ended up going with a completely different tone than I expected.
I often end up feeling like my first draft of a thing lays down the text, and the second going forward are like laying moss on top of it to make the text more subtext-y. That was definitely true of what I worked on this week.
Initially, they got into a pretty nasty fight! It was damage grinding against damage and making sparks, and while I do love that for them, I had an issue with the transition between subjects in the conversation that I asked for help ironing out. And when I filled in the empty space that was fucking up the pacing, the tone went somber and stayed that way.
And I like it a lot more, because both characters are really showing off the inherent conflict in their flaws. I think it's more effective to see them both tired and beaten down and kind of disappointed rather than raising their voices or being openly dismissive of each other. They're both acting from places of shame and wanting to prevent more damage in the future, neither of them are advocating for the wrong thing, but their trouble to communicate comes directly from wanting to do the right thing and not knowing what to say to get there. And I find this internal conflict more compelling in the second draft, I think.
This is shaping up to be about trying hard to do the right thing when you have no good options, and also about self-doubt and finding your worth in situations that make you feel like you have none. And (this IS a romance) about holding onto the people you care about the most even when everything is trying to keep you from being happy with them.
Finally, one fucking fic that isn't inherently about the nature of grief. Nature must be healing a little bit.

Hey there, howdy, hello! Welcome to my writeblr that I am going to try real hard to be active on!
I'm Madd, they/them, and while I might not post it all here, I am a very active writer hoping for publication in the near future! I'm hoping to become part of the community, so feel free to tag me in things/shoot me asks/anything of the sort!! I'd love more writer friends :>
(Also, this is a sideblog! My main is warriorblood1, so if you get random follows/likes from that account, that's me!)
Want to know more details? Keep reading!
What do you write? I write all kinds of things! I have ideas in honestly too many genres and whatnot at this point, and I hope to someday write them all!
Right now, however, I have two main focuses: spooky short stories, and a novel series! (Though I do have a couple other novel things.)
Tell me about the short stories. My short stories tend to be 3k to 5k on average, and most wind up being horror or horror-adjacent. I tend to describe them as being "Twilight Zone-esque," but most would fit as being called gothic horror.
I have previously published some short stories, but my full legal name is on them so I hesitate to link them here. Regardless, I hope to publish a collection sometime soon!
Tell me about the novel series. Auberon Academy is a four-novel series told through a rotating POV of four main characters. It is a fantasy setting (though a bit more modern fantasy; more or less 1950s tech-wise), but the plot is more of a mystery/thriller.
I'm querying the first novel and have the first draft of the second one finished, and am now starting to draft the third book! You can learn more about the first book, Manifestations and the Missing, here in this funny slideshow I made. Update: Here's a slideshow for book two, To Know and Be Known!
What do you do besides writing? Not much. Just kidding.
I'm bad at video games, but I love to play them. A favorite hobby of mine is tabletop role-playing games, my favorites being Call of Cthulhu, Blackbirds, Dungeons & Dragons, and Vampire: The Masquerade! I also love to draw, and several of my story ideas are actually comics!
But lets be honest. Torturing my characters (canonically or otherwise) is my favorite thing to do. What kind of writer would I be if I said anything different?
How do you tag things?
General writing: #madd writing
Prompts: #prompt response
Tag games: #tag game
Ask games: #ask game
Asks: #questions
Resources: #holding
Short story work: #short story
Novel work: #novel work
Auberon Academy-specifc: #boberon
Soulbearer-specific: #sogbog
DIIE-specific: #DIIE
Cináed-specific: #dragondad
My art: #madd doodles
Other writeblr-related things: #writeblr stuff
Also, this post has the list of character tags for Auberon!
I'll also try to tag anything that feels like it should warrant a trigger warning!
Anything else to note? I'm very nervous about posting my work to Tumblr (fear of theft really gets to you), but I'm trying to overcome it. That being said, you might not see too terribly much of it here - if you're really interested, please reach out to me! I'd most likely be happy to share more on a more private level.
Also, I have ADHD! I tend to hyperfixate on my own work (which is a nightmare but also useful), but if you're ever confused by something. That's probably why.
Thanks for being here, y'all!

allie's moving to @enchaentd! i've had this blog for three years <3 and it is the longest i've ever kept a single blog active for. at this point, i feel completely overwhelmed here, with drafts, likes, inbox count, post count, and followers despite clearing them out quite a few times across the years. i really hate dropping things, and i feel like i have done so much more progression here and character building with allie, that i hate to move myself over. my stuff is here >:/ and it's true that i could move things over, but part of the reason i'm moving is just the clutter of everything. i'd like to keep a sideblog of rbs of hcs, threads, or other posts that i want to keep a little easier than just searching up things here. i have no intention of deleting this blog, you will never ever catch me doing that. also, my tags have been broken for, i think, almost one year, so i'm excited to be able to get to use some that work. (also, the new url helps with a new vibe. i've never been completely in love with this one.) i am dropping a lot of threads and memes. it is very, very likely that i have dropped ours, (i kept about 10 threads, and memes that i had plans to respond to privately or involved making edits) and i'm truly am sorry for it. i always want to start new things, and i plan to post a permanent starter/plotting call on my new blog soon to be able to get those new things going. whether or not i dropped a thread has no reflection on how i feel about our dynamics or even our relationship as friends/muns, it was very ruthless marie kondo style decision making, so i did not feel overwhelmed and could write something. like i said, i want to start new things!!! it's also likely that i won't be following first, as per usual with new blogs, but please feel free to follow me there! if we're mutuals, i want to keep/start writing with you! 💖💖💖💖💕💕✨✨💕💕💖💖

Hi! I'm redoing this pinned post again. I am just never satisfied with it.
Disclaimer: I do not give consent for any of my work (art, writing, and anything else to come) to be used for any training models or monetary gain.
Anyways, welcome to my Tumblr! This is my personal account. Here, I reblog a lot of random things I find funny or interesting. My own posts are usually about my OCs and sometimes some art. However, most of my OC stuff goes on the respective sideblogs.
Speaking of which, here they are!
@halboro-1994 - My main story, Halboro: 1994. There is an older version of this blog, but it was blocked from everyone because Tumblr thought it was a bot. I use this one now!
@ask-halboro - A dead ask blog. I have never been happy with the set-up and got way too focused on how my OCs would have access to Tumblr. I'd like to redo it one day, but for now it lies dormant.
@oath-and-creed - Set within the same universe as Halboro: 1994, but about ten years earlier. One of my 'big three' stories, as I look at it.
@oath-and-creed-official - Not to be confused with the general blog. This one is an ask blog! Again, defunct.
@super-space-sailor - Within the Halverse (Halboro: 1994 and Oath and Creed), Super Space Sailor is a franchise. Here, it's its own universe! Very underdeveloped, but it is dear to me.
@thebutterflyeffect-tbe - A completely separate story/universe from the above three, but the third of my 'big three'. I'm slowly trudging through getting it to a point where I can draft. World-building is hard, haha. For the longest time, I forgot to turn on the option to @ it and thought it was blocked!
@intergalactic-inn - An idea I was briefly fixated on before I realised I didn't know where I was going with it. I have ideas going around in my brain, but for now they're pretty vague. I hope to work on it more someday!
@tualoma - A very vague fantasy story I made once. Again, world-building is hard, so I have not made much progress. I pretty much only use this blog for vague fantasy 'aesthetic' images.
Most of the stuff on these sideblogs are just reblogs of images (mainly PNGs) which remind me of the story/characters! I do post my art and 'tag the OC' reblogs there too, though! Also, you're welcome to send in some asks, especially for the big three!
You can search around for my tags, but I'll be putting my personal ones on this post in case the search function breaks.
I block very freely. If I think you're spamming an unrelated tag or your posts just aren't what I want to see, you'll get blocked. Half the time there is no personal vendetta.
As such, no set DNI. I would write one, but I know most people don't search through every blog they see for one. So, I'll just block you if I don't like you. Also, if I think you're a bot, you'll get blocked too.

Tumblr media
Referring to the previous post: While I certainly don't agree with OP on everything they wrote, they have a point. Before anyone feels offended let me try to elaborate on this. First of all, something I can agree with: Roleplaying in dms is a pain in the ass. I tried it many times, I still do it sparingly but it's inconvenient and annoying to me. Dms cannot be filtered and separated from ooc, they can't be tagged, bookmarked (via like), drafted or queued, there's literally no way to come back for a text at a later point without endlessly scrolling up and wasting time while searching for the thing. Like, idk why anyone would voluntarily do this to themselves and their partners?! Whenever someone tries to dm me in-character I'm very reluctant to reply because of all the reasons I just mentioned. Unfortunately, rping in dms seems to be the most popular form of interacting in FakeVz. Yes, it's private but at what cost?
Tumblr comes with one of the best build-in features that a roleplayer can dream of, threadable replies, but 90% of our community refuses to make use of them. Not only can reblogs be threaded, they can be tagged, you can talk to each other in the tags ooc without breaking immersion of the text (but you have the ooc attached to the actual text you're talking about!!, while dms just get lost after a while), they can be bookmarked, drafted and queued and with a good tagging system they can be found again years after they've been posted, even on a blog with thousands of posts. You also get automatically notified when your partner replies. And you get all this while having ONE blog. You don't have to make "groups" (sideblogs) and it's easy to keep track of everything. It feels as if Tumblr has invented this feature for us roleplayers, it's THAT good honestly. But the FakeVz is like: "Nay." I don't understand this. Our old pinboard didn't came with all these convenient features, it was time-sensitive and finding a post from years back involved hours and hours of searching and scrolling.
I know that some folks resort to private sideblogs which are a middleground and compromise. I have a private sideblog for me and my main writing partner and not for all of the money in the world I would ever drop or abandon this form of interaction, I enjoy it so much. Having a decent tagging system, we write different verses and share other things on this blog while staying halfway organized. But sideblogs have their downsides as well. They require that you commit to longterm-writing with the other person. Having agreed on writing together and plotting beforehand is mandatory and therefore sideblogs feel as if they come with lots of conditions before you even start and get to write the very first word. That is a barrier for me personally and I cannot commit to more than one person with this level of investment. Sideblogs are generally not made for spontaneous ice-breaking, unprompted interactions, receiving prompts and fast back-and-forth banter. They also pile up quickly for people who are more capable of having lots of writing partners. I don't know, but I wouldn't want to have 20 sideblogs when I could have all those interactions on my one main blog instead.
As stated, I don't agree with OP that everyone should be obligated to do one true form of roleplay. But I get the point, that the Tumblr rpc is well established for very good reasons. They utilze Tumblr's features to their best potential and have years of experience, they even offer tons of resources for us to use, write scripts with quality of life features and whatnot. They know their business, it's highly fascinating to me and I genuinely hope that one day some more people here would be a bit more appreciative of our "new home". Instead I have seen people insulting and talking shit about others who were actually curious, willing to learn and put in the work to educate themselves about Tumblr etiquette, to eventually being able to branch out and do both, FakeVz and Tumblr rp. They run their blogs bilingual to be welcoming to a variety of partners, they offer help and put themselves out there and as a result they get alienated from a good portion of the community instead of being respected for their effort.
There's another thing where I agree with OP. It's my personal opinion, so no offense intended. I find it extremely frustrating when I come across a potentially interesting blog and there's no writing or any other in-character text on it. For a roleplayer there's no better self-advertisement in the world than their writing - it's more important than anything else. And I mainly address those who submit to our community blog, actively searching for partners. I have some time on hand and decide to check out their blog and then it's completely inaccessible. No tags, no nav, no info, no prompts which I could send, not a single text for reference to get an idea if we could match with each other, literally nothing but aesthetics and some musing posts. They advertise and send an ask to the FakeVz Blog and then put in zero effort to actually make their blog appealing to others, and I don't talk about fancy aesthetics, I mean basic accessibilty here. I am literally forced to reach out via dm and go in blind because they do not offer me anything else to look up or read through or interact with BEFORE I decide to talk to them. Then they maybe have a "no pb" rule on top of it all which basically prevents me from reaching out ooc to plot with them. I know that this is a bit of an extreme example but it happens. And sometimes I also think those are the ones who complain the loudest about how bored they are and that they have no one to write with. It doesn't even occur to them that they're maybe at fault for their situation. Instead of sitting down and working on their blog and their attitude they submit again on the community blog sounding more and more entitled and aggressive with each entry they send. I have an issue with this sort of behaviour and posts like this will never make me want to reach out to this person. I understand why OP was talking about "low effort blogs" they might have came across here. They exist.
Generally speaking, I don't think the "oldschool way of FakeVz" is wrong but for me personally, this system is flawed because it is so narrow and restricting in its nature. You either talk to someone in their dms or you don't. And here's where I'm out in lots of cases because reaching out to someone via dm is a hurdle for me and definitely outside of my personal comfort zone. It is too binding to me, it feels obligatory and a lot of blogs don't offer any other way to interact with them despite Tumblr's fantastic features such as the askbox, prompts, etc. I agree with both commenters on the post, that no one should be forced to do something they're not comfortable with. Respecting each other's privacy and boundaries is mandatory. But on the other hand I genuinely hope more people will open up to other and more possibities the rp here offers. Maybe you don't want to share your novels with your very personal character story that you write with your shipping partner, and that's totally okay. But, like, other kind of small interactions that are not on such a deep, personal level can be considered to be written on the dashboard for example, just to get started. Start out small, be firm with what you want to share and what not, make yourself comfortable with the thought of writing on your blog in the future? Be highly selective about the content you write publicly, don't overstep your own boundaries. I think it could make our community better and healthier in the long run, communities thrive from visibly active members and public interactions. And I can only speak for myself here but I love seeing people writing with each other on the dash, it is highly inspiring and motivating for me. There are so many blogs I admire from afar even if I have never talked to their muns (and quite likely never will). It's essential for my Tumblr experience. Some are incredibly talented and also super kind and lovely when they post ooc. I don't know but, these are the sorts of vibes I enjoy seeing here. And even if I am very private and closed off myself, I do have public writing on my blog and to post this somehow feels easier to me than going into a stranger's dms.

do you have tips for writers who lost the writing spark for finding it again? it's been a few years since i stopped being able to write even though i still love it. (i read a lot, so that isn't helping either. i really thought it would.) would really appreciate any tips because i love your writing and would love to know how you go about it!
hi friend! i'm really honored to be asked this, and really flattered that you enjoy my writing :') having gone through some periods of lower / no writing (though not as long) i'll try to speak to what generally helps me ease back into writing. this is entirely off-the-cuff but my DMs are open if you want to discuss further :') (<- i'm mediocre to bad at replying in a timely fashion but i Will get back to you either almost immediately or in 3-5 business days)
when i began writing for meronia, i'd been writing for another fandom for a while and had kind of hit a wall with my major WIP. it felt too high-pressure, and it was so long (65k words posted. scream) that it felt really hard to juggle everything. meronia appealed to me because it felt very low-pressure -- i made a new AO3 account, and a sideblog, so it felt very anonymous and thus basically zero-risk to share something, once i was ready to. my first work for meronia was under 1,000 words, and included very limited information about the characters; it was very simple, and felt very manageable. so, logistically, my first two tips would be to find a way to make the act of writing (and the act of sharing your writing) feel low-pressure/low-risk, and search for ideas specifically that are low-commitment.
since i began writing for meronia, there have definitely been times where i struggled to write things, and when i struggled to finish them. in the case that i'm struggling to write things, or feeling intimidated by my current WIPs, i find it incredibly helpful to receive or generate prompts for short pieces. being given something specific to work on by someone else takes the pressure off of you to come up with an idea you're happy with. like, okay, i can't come up with the groundbreaking life-changing fanfic idea that i WISH i could write rn, but this person asked for a rockstar AU, and i can do something with that. i can have fun with that. let me try to write 500 words about that.
the difficulty in this is, of course, getting people to send you prompts (trickier if you haven't already been writing for the ship in question for a while!) ... to be honest i don't really have major tips about that other than soliciting requests in the tags, but in the off chance that you're specifically interested in writing for meronia, hit me upppppp. because i was just talking about The Struggle Of Starting Stuff with some besties earlier today and have very recently brainstormed this.
while trying to establish a habit of writing regularly, if that's what you want to be doing, writing friends are profoundly helpful. indispensable really. i have a handful of pals i like to body double with, or run writing sprints with from time to time, and it's unbelievably helpful to me. having a set appointment with someone establishes a time to set aside for writing, and having a friend to work alongside creates a sense of commitment to the task at hand. i have also been told by reliable sources that joining in-person writing groups can be really helpful but i have never done that so i cannot speak to it!!!
my last tips are just really general. and they're things i'm not always good at. remember that not everything has to be perfect -- not the first time you write it, nor the fiftieth time you edit it. not everything has to ever make it outside your drafts, even. finding ways to share snippets of things you're excited about and proud of is really helpful for keeping motivation going, imo, especially since some things take so long to finish. it's okay to write things out of order, to write the stuff you're excited about first (<- I'M SO BAD AT REMEMBERING THIS.) it's totally, extremely natural for things to feel really clunky when you first get back into it -- it'll get better eventually (<- also trying to remember this as i fight my way through trying to learn how to smut again).
OH EDITING TO ADD: steering the craft by ursula k leguin has some amazing exercises in it, and i have an epub somewhere if you want a copy.
i have other thoughts on what helps to make more ambitious ideas work, but i don't have time to elaborate on it right now, and it's not exactly what you asked, anyway. again, please feel so incredibly free to reach out to chat more about writing if you wish, too :')
