Chaos and Her Children (I'm sorry, I didn't really plan a sketch ahead so I couldn't fit Yuna in the eldritch fam group shot lol)
Wanted to make a post about Yuna's biological family. They are all originally Pokemon OCs, but Yuna's vague resemblance to their mother compelled me to put them in the OP verse as well. This is just a placeholder, but I like to refer to the children as The Chaos Sibs :D Excluding Yuna, the siblings take inspiration from the Velvet Room attendants (from the Persona series), the Three Mothers (from Dario Argento's films), Chthonic gods, and certain fears from The Magnus Archives.
Eriza
The mother. While she usually appears to others as a very tall and exceptionally beautiful woman clad in robes and with a gentle voice, she is actually an ancient, primordial god-like entity in disguise. Her true name is unknown but in the human language, it means "The Singer of Unreality." She is largely absent from her children's lives but nevertheless continuously watches over them from afar. Although she finds amusement in mankind's suffering and discord, she ultimately does not want its complete destruction. Her resemblance to Nico Robin is purely coincidental (during the time I created her, I was not into OP and was unaware of Robin's post-timeskip look).
Moira
The eldest. The most serious one in the family. She is a bit of a misanthrope, preferring to stay away from human affairs. She comes off as a stern and cold person, this being considered ironic by her family since she carries "the fires of hell" within her; her main power is to emit and control heat, to the point where anything or anyone she touches, breathes on, or is in her vicinity can burn into ash instantly. She can negate the usage of Busoshoku Haki, and quite painfully, making the user feel as though it is burning and melting off of them. Her animal symbol is the dragon. Her design is largely inspired by Sumika Warakubami from Kakegurui (because as soon as I saw her I just went "omg she looks like a perfect mix of Eriza and [insert father's name])."
Kita
The 2nd child. The most chaotic one of the children and the most involved with the human world. She is often seen hanging out with the Red Hair Pirates - having a brother-sister-like bond with Shanks - though she will occasionally spend time with the Thriller Bark Pirates as well, considering Perona like a daughter. Her powers are associated with darkness, ghosts, and nightmares; she becomes most powerful during the new moon and the solar eclipse. She can also attack by manipulating her sleeves, which includes being able to sharpen them into blades. She can prevent the usage of Kenbunshoku Haki. Her animal symbol is the cat (including big cats, especially panthers). She is the first of the siblings to meet Yuna when she was a child (although Yuna does not remember this).
Carmen
Was the youngest until Yuna was born. Uses male, female, and gender-neutral pronouns. They are similar to Kita in seeking fun and pleasure in the human world, often reveling in their festivities. They are like a walking mix of a mirror funhouse, a haunted house, and a kaleidoscope. They have the ability to induce hallucinations, influence ecstasy and madness, and generate glass shards out of thin air (this being dependent on how much light there is present). The glass shards can be used simply as attacks, build shields, and construct false realities. They can prevent the usage of Haoshoku Haki, or more accurately reflect its effect back at the user. Their animal symbol is the fox.

A Secret Shared with Sirens
Publication Date: January 16, 2025
Genre: Dark Fantasy Romance
– Dual POV
– Gods & Monsters
– Shadow Magic
– Underworld
– Political Intrigue
– Magical War
– Man-eating sirens
“She was the endless darkness between life and death. Bitter, and consuming. A poison I couldn’t stop drinking, and a cold lake I wanted to drown in. Their souls were one, but Isolde had taken everything Evlyn’s life had to give and sharpened it into power.”
Isolde:
Being pulled from the wreckage of an elven ship by bloodthirsty sirens, I was now surrounded by an entirely different set of creatures with claws and teeth. Achelous, the Father of Sirens and son to the blood mage Medea shines a light on Caspian’s hunt for the mythical blade, the God Killer. His finned daughters are nothing like how I had imagined them, they’re worse, and they are weary of my foul magic. Achelous is reluctant to join the war on the continent, but when the siren’s home is attacked by the Elf King, he’s Helbent on revenge.
Everyday the darkness grows louder and more corporal, and I swear that I can feel its frigid breath on my neck when it whispers its sweet promises of power and revenge. After traveling with Cadmael, the messenger god who followed me overboard and onto the Elven ship, and the siren Thelxi to the City of Souls, we find out that Silas’ depravity knows no bounds.
If we usurp the treacherous Queen Athalia, who will sit on the Arramorian throne? Who will be the voice of humans, in a war wielded by villainous gods and wicked creatures?
Death:
Watching Isolde die the first time was painful, and every other time was like ripping my heart in two. She now knew that I had taken her first life in a twisted deal with the darkness, but what she didn’t know was the depth of her attachment’s powers. This ancient, unfathomable being is manipulating her in front of my eyes and all I can do is plead with her to push it away. To not take the deal I did.
The greatest fear of a creature who’s claimed power is that someone more cunning and vicious will steal it from him, and Isolde just might be that creature, but she still doesn’t know the whole truth. Her world with Caspian is a lie, and the truth might not set her free.

TMNT reaction to s/o who plays hockey
A/n: I'm gonna be honest I don't know much about hockey so I apologize if anything is incorrect, but I hope you like it. And thank you for requesting!
Raphael
Tumblr media
Literally the coolest thing ever
He was so shocked and so happy bc I definitely feel he loves hockey.
Any sport really.
But hockey was his favorite now bc you played it.
He was at every practice and every game and if you weren't on a team or anything and did it for fun
He was right there to watch and he would definitely participate if you wanted him too.
He was kinda like a soccer mom?
Like he always had snacks and would shout at the ref's if they flagged you.
"Hey buddy maybe take that flag and shove it-"
You just looked so cool and so cute at the same time
He definitely loved it.
He was so proud of you and so happy to call you his.
Leonardo
Tumblr media
Ooh boy was he impressed
He didn't think you played hockey, but he was very impressed when you showed him you did
And he loved it you looked so cool and you glided on the ice so effortlessly I mean you looked amazing.
The outfit the stances you had and like just all of it was so pretty and so just wow.
He definitely had a new favorite sport and he made sure he was there to see you play.
Anytime you were on the ice he was there to cheer you on.
He was your number one fan
He didn't know much about hockey, but he made sure to sharpen your blades for you.
It was the least he could do to help his sweet heart.
Donatello
Tumblr media
Well you just got more and more interesting
He researched everything he could right away.
He wanted to be able to understand it and absolutely loved to talk to you about it.
Anytime you scored a point he was right there shouting
"Goal! Score!? Is it goal or score?"
He was just there to watch you play and support you 100%
But he always made sure you were well rested and hydrated.
But he loved that you played hockey
It was something he definitely loved to show off.
If any of your gear needed fixed or adjusted he definitely was on top of it.
Michelangelo
Tumblr media
Uh...your literally the coolest!
I mean look at the way you glide..look at your butt.
Sorry dude can't help it your butt looks good from all angles.
But he absolutely loved it he was your number one fan.
Always cheering you on and defending you if anyone were to bump into you
"Hey watch it pal! You want me to beat him up for you angel cakes?!"
He knew you had it, but still he didn't want anyone to hurt his baby.
But he was definitely a biiig fan and he most definitely did little cheers for you in the crowd, if there was a crowd.
Even if there wasn't you can bet your butt he'll still have a sign and pom poms.

Rudolph ref sheet!
Translation notes:
- “Hunter” in pretty much all cases was actually the word “Matagi,” which refers to traditional winter hunters of the Tōhoku region of northern Japan, who are known for hunting bears. His WIP name was “Country B Matagi” [Country B referring to Aesfrost].
- The dog breed that they repeat a few times in the first set of images is “Pekingese.” Pekingese are small lapdogs, so it seems like either a joke or an incorrect translation on my end--I couldn’t seem to find an alternate translation, but there might be some context I was missing. Related to the above point, the Matagi are strongly associated with the Akita breed of dog, which is larger and looks more wolf-like, so that’s probably more what they were getting at here.
- “DREAM” (the a label over the little Rudolph-riding-the-wolf cartoon) seemed to involve some Chinese characters, and was possibly some sort of loan word. I’m pretty sure it meant something along the lines of dream/illusion/fake, but I’m not clear on the actual definition.
- The characters for “driftwood” were pretty unambiguous, but I still feel like it might be a mistranslation because it seems weird in context.
- “You callin’ me?” was another one I wasn’t sure about, since the characters are pretty small and it seems to be casual/abbreviated speech. He might have been saying something slightly different, but I think the general feeling of “You callin’ me?” is probably generally what they were going for.
- The line that I wrote as “The knife has one bevel down its length” was literally translated as something like “A one-edged knife like ’Nagasa [word meaning the length of a blade measured from the point to the back edge notch]’”. After looking into it a bit, it seems like some traditional Eastern knives are sharpened on once side while typical Western knives are sharped on both. I think that’s what they were getting at here, but I’m not sure. “Nagasa” as it stands in the original text is inside of quotation marks, which makes me think they might have been referring to some specific brand or type of knife, but I couldn’t find any concrete info on it.
- “Bear” wasn’t exactly the character for “bear,” but it was off by about one stroke and it’s what all of the translators and dictionaries defaulted to. I kind of wonder if there might be something significant about that (possibly something tied to Matagi culture), but I couldn’t find anything for sure.

It's a bit sketchy but I went ahead and made a ref for one of my shovel knight sonas, Night Knight! She's a reincarnated moon deity, sworn to serve and protect her Sun Queen.
Her night sticks double as magic wants, the moon crystals helping with channeling her powers, but they are also used to fight like a normal night stick. They can extend to push back enemies, and as they extend they sharpen, becoming two blades.
The Night of Knight is fiercely protective of those she cares about, but extremely so of her Queen.

Koji Sazana concept doodles, including tattoo refs! He’s also a bnha villain oc, his quirk is called Sharp Tongue, his tongue can extend to fairly impressive lengths, and can go longer with focus and training, and he can choose to sharpen the edge to a blade at any point, as long as he’s consiously aware of  the point at which he wants to sharpen it (like he can feel it) Also he dresses femininely cause he likes to and gender is an illusion uwu also the last one is a concept for a oc that i haven’t fully fleshed out, his name may or may not be Santiago, his quirk is something like his emotions conjuring elements? like when he’s mad, his hair conjures fire, and he can manipulate it at will, sadness = water, happiness = light, fear = electricity, something like that? i would have to think about it way more before i flesh him out, i dont even know if i wanna keep him lol

Species: Nilijin (Fertile Male)
Voice Claim: Kevin Michael Richardson [Voice Samples]
Skin color: Copper red skin, and golden yellow underbelly, lots of faded scars on his arms and torso.
Age: Elderly (He doesn’t get offended when others call him old, he knows this already.  Probably in his mid-70′s in Nilijin years)
Height: 10’ 5” ft
Body type: Heavy-set, but muscular.
Preference(s): Demiromantic/Asexual
Personality:
Miserly (Feng is a bit less than he used to be, but continues to strategize ways to keep profits high)
Territorial
Stern
Ornery (Feng has calmed down with age, but still tends to be a little shit at times)
Courageous
Wise (Being an old man, and seeing some shit really gave him some perspective)
Generous (He might not seem like it, but he likes to be helpful)
Resourceful
Understanding
Childish (somewhat.  He has his moments)
A leader by heart
Likes:
Traveling around Oddworld
Meditating (He prefers to meditate under a waterfall)
Learning new forms of armed combat and martial arts
Causing a bit of mischief (only when the opportunity presents itself)
Smoked meats, and seafood
Being a thorn in the sides of his enemies (if they aren’t already dead)
Learning new forms of sustainable, humane business practices
Cleaning and polishing his weapons (he especially loves the sound of sharpening blades on a wet stone)
Dislikes:
Corrupt/Abusive companies
The mindlessly greedy and arrogant types
Authoritative figures that use unnecessary corporal punishment
His past self (He absolutely hates how he once was a corrupt CEO who actually worked with the Magog Cartel, and associated with other horrid Nilijong companies)
His horns when they get too long (he regularly files his horns to keep them a bit short)
Abilities/Powers:
Professional level hand-to-hand combat
Master level in using polearm weapons
High physical strength (he can pick up and throw Big Bro Sligs)
Formal training in heavy artillery (able to use hand-held gatling guns and rocket launchers)
Enhanced resilience/durability
Channeling and summoning (able to call upon his bound deity, Boulelafi)
Limited teleportation (through portals, or through smoke clouds)
Smoke manipulation and conjuration
Fire immunity
Intimidating aura (Flares up when angered, but is relatively well-controlled)
“Conditional” immortality (Stuck as an elder, and will only be allowed to die when he achieves a goal that is probably impossible to reach.)
Past:
He was formerly a marine in the Nilijong Navy before pursuing a career in big business for heavy artillery and other weapons.  For a time, he worked with a foreign business figure of the Magog Cartel, but was eventually unsatisfied with the partnership.  Feng had been put in charge of manning his own business within Mudos, but saw the flaws in how the Glukkons were working in their  manufacturing and how their profits in khanzumer products were inevitably going to dry up in the long run.  After getting into a particularly severe argument with the business partner, Feng’s partnership was dissolved.
The funds he had made from the partnership, along with a hefty chunk of territory claimed with the Magog Cartel, had nearly killed Feng’s business after other Nilijong business executives heard of Feng’s defiance.  With no other choice, Feng disappeared, cutting all ties with his Industrialist lifestyle as a means to completely start over and figure out a way to better himself.  During his absence, the Magog Cartel had assumed they successfully wiped out his business and forgot about him entirely.
Present:
Now is a highly revered and infamous Nilijin in his homeland who is the leader of the Brass Claw Cartel, and close associate to Shinju, and Lee.  He has resumed being an owner of a wide-spread weapons manufacturing company, but he also has a side business in exporting exotic goods from Nilijong, Jimseo, and Kayaiti to other parts of Oddworld.  Since his return, he had killed his previous business partner but made sure to cover up evidence that it was his doing to avoid catching the attention of the Magog Cartel.  Rather than making his presence known to them, Feng has changed his strategy to be much more stealthy and discreet.
While he wants revenge against the Magog for what they did to him and his business, he’s grown to feel much more sympathetic for the species who are enslaved, or left to rot by Industrialists.  So, he targets other cruel companies as well in the hopes to help the slaves break free by having disguised agents blend into the company staff before causing a ruckus to not only distract security but to tear apart the company from the inside out.  Feng has also implemented a whole slew of other strategies in deploying field agents, spies, and protection squads to protect the freed slaves from being hunted by their former captors.  Feng willingly offers shelter, food, and assistance for those his cartel rescues and/or apprehends (Sligs, Wolvarks, etc.) if they choose to genuinely try to change for the better.  Despite Feng’s old age, he still holds a life goal of helping to change Oddworld before he dies.

Time for a new OC post! Meet the newest edition to the Nonkinaverse and the Neo-Texas crew, whom we’ll now refer to as the Bounty Stars crew (will explain later), Marco Mendoza, a Mime Swordsman who protects the innocents of Mexico as a legendary figure (in the Nonkinaverse), Desert Skull!!
Now you might have noticed some peculiar about Marco: His dead green-ish skin. Well there’s an explanation for that! Too but it’s not a happy one!
Warning: His backstory is kind of a bummer and involves child abuse and Violence. Read at your own risk! If you read and get bothered by it, it’s your own fault!! Now then.
When he was young, Marco performed in-front of large crowds alongside his famous Mime father and former Matador, Rodolfo, and Trapeze artist, Maria. They where a happy, loving family, and it seemed like nothing could go wrong...That was until Maria fell incredibly ill when Marco was 12. They went to many Doctors, but they couldn’t do anything about her illness. She died with her husband and son by her side, and this would forever change Marco.
Rodolfo fell into a depression that lead him into alcoholism, which eventually lead to him abusing Marco as an outlet for his rage and fustration. First it was verbal: Insulting his son, mocking him during saber practice. But then it became Physical, with Rodolfo laying his hand on his son in ways no parent should ever do.
Eventually he began to spar with Marco while drunk, and this would lead to his downfall, as one day Marco snapped. With one swift strike of his saber, Marco had slit his father’s throat wide open.
Marco watched as Rodolfo bleed out with a wicked smile. Leaving his literal deadbeat dad in a pool of his own blood, Marco disappeared into the night, traveling across the Mexican desert all by himself as a Nomad, with nothing but the clothes and practice saber on his back.
But early into his journey to nowhere, tragedy struck as Marco had fallen ill with the same sickness as his mother. With no energy left in his body, he collapsed in the middle of a ghost town, accepting death’s embrace knowing that he’d be reunited with his mother. Or so it seemed.
An old hermit had found him and miraculously nursed Marco back to health. When he awoke, his skin had turned a deathly pale green and completely black around his hands, his slick black hair turned white as snow, his voice nearly gone, and his crimson eyes permanently blood shot.
Marco was grateful of the Hermit, but the Hermit wasn’t done with Marco yet. He knew of his fencing act from his performing days and talent with a saber, but he knew Marco could sharpen his skills further.
Under the Hermit’s tutelage, Marco became a force to be reckoned with, even learning of Mime-Oh, an inner power that Mimes can tap into. It was with these teachings that the Hermit had trained Marco to become the next Desert Skull, a mythical Mexican fighter for Justice in the Nonkinaverse, striking fear into the hearts of evil-doers everywhere!!
Eventually in plight for justice, he came across a Bounty Huntress Cowgirl from the United Prefectures and formed a sort of partnership with the Gunslinger, even taking up temporary residence in her mansion when not patrolling his homeland from the shadows.
--
Now let’s talk his powers and abilities:
Marco’s main fighting ability relies heavily on saber/rapier fighting with his signature blade, The Desert Rose, a blade crafted by the Hermit’s own hands. Marco’s skill with The Desert Rose is deadly and precise. You could blind fold him, but he’d still slice you to ribbon.
But while he’s more of a sword fighter, he’s no slouch when it comes to hand to hand, need it be necessary in a fight, relying on swift, but hard strikes in a low sweeping boxing style.
As mentioned before, Marco can tap into Mime-Oh, the Mime equivalent of Clown-Po which in turn is the Nonkinaverse version of Ki/Ripple/Chi/etc. However Mime-Oh is debatably more powerful than Clown-Po, as Mimes with Mime-Oh can warp between places via shadows and mirrors. This is how Marco gets from Mexico to the Stardust Mansion.
He also uses Mime-Oh for fights, such as creating shadow clones to fight or distract an enemy, and even use it for some devastating attacks with Desert Rose. One such attack he calls Pegasus Flicker.
He slashes at his opponent, but seemingly misses. It’s only when he sheathes Desert Rose that the effects kick in: Where ever he slashed at suddenly gets struck/sliced.
--
And that’s Marco, The Desert Skull of Mexico! Now let’s end this out with a Fun Fact!
-Marco’s favorite manga/anime series is Saint Seiya, with Seiya as his favorite character. He read/watched it so much back in Mexico as kid that his friends nicknamed him Seiya, and his original Matador costume was Pegasus Seiya inspired!! Some his more fancier sword techniques are even inspired by move names from the series!

Neanderthal
Tumblr media
Image © Wizards of the Coast, by David Griffith. Accessed at the Frostburn Art Gallery here
[I’ve wanted to cover WoTC’s take on Neanderthals for a while. They’re pretty cool, and pretty scientifically progressive for the time period. Neanderthals had art, culture and interbred with “modern humans”, and were just another way to be a person. Honestly, the fact that they did not survive into the modern day bums me out. As such, I removed the Int penalty they got saddled with in 3.5. I also added the wrestler ability, inspired by the discovery that most Neanderthal skeletons have breakage and healing patterns that resemble rodeo riders more than other modern professions. I also used this as an opportunity to convert, and simplify, some of the original weapons in Frostburn.]
Neanderthal CR ½ N Humanoid Although this burly man looks human at first glance, he is slightly too broad and barrel chested. He has no chin, a forward projecting nose, and a strong brow ridge.
Neanderthals are closely related to humans—in fact, the two species can interbreed, and most human populations carry a distant trace of neanderthal bloodlines. Although they are sometimes disparagingly called “cavemen” and derided as bestial, they are intelligent and skilled at making a living on marginal lands. They make art and artifacts, bury their dead, and have complicated religious practices. Most neanderthals are animists, and they view shapeshifting creatures with respect and awe. Their material culture is focused on tools of stone, bone and wood—neanderthals spend much of their free time crafting and repairing weapons and tools.
In combat, neanderthals are not terribly subtle, favoring overwhelming force and teamwork. Typically, one neanderthal warrior will grab an enemy and wrestle them into submission, while their allies assist by attacking the grappled opponent. Most neanderthals have multiple broken and healed bones by the time they reach adulthood. They tend to be clumsy with ranged weapons, and do not trust bows or crossbows unless trained in their use by other peoples.
Neanderthals as Characters Neanderthals do not have racial hit dice, and advance by character level. They favor martial classes such as fighter, barbarian and brawler. Spellcasters are mostly druids and sorcerers. A neanderthal character has the following racial traits
+2 Str, +2 Con, -2 Dex Neanderthals are hearty and strong, but thickset and lacking in hand-eye coordination Humanoid (human) Neanderthals are humanoids with the human subtype Normal Speed A neanderthal moves at a speed of 30 ft. Endurance as a bonus feat Hunter A neanderthal gains a +2 racial bonus to Stealth and Survival checks Resourceful A neanderthal gains a +1 racial bonus to attack and damage rolls made with broken weapons, and ignore 1 point of Armor Check Penalty when using broken armor or shields. Weapon Familiarity A neanderthal treats a iuak, ritiik, suglin and tigerskull club as martial weapons Wrestler A neanderthal gains a +2 racial bonus to its CMB to grapple an opponent, and a +2 racial bonus to its CMD against grapple attempts. Illiteracy A neanderthal cannot read or write. A neanderthal can learn to read and write a language by spending 3 skill ranks in Linguistics Languages A neanderthal begins play speaking Thal. A neanderthal with an Intelligence bonus may select from the following languages: Common, Orc, Pilt, Sylvan
Tumblr media
”Frostburn Weapons” © Wizards of the Coast, by David Griffith. Accessed at the Frostburn Art Gallery here
Neanderthal Weapons Neanderthals have developed weapons from bone and stone. Neanderthals have weapon familiarity with the following exotic weapons

Surgical Scalpel is a small and extremely sharp bladed instrument used for surgery, anatomical dissection, and various arts and crafts (called a hobby knife). Scalpels may be single-use disposable or re-usable. Re-usable scalpels can have permanently attached blades that can be sharpened or, more commonly, removable single-use blades. Disposable scalpels usually have a plastic handle with an extensible blade (like a utility knife) and are used once, then the entire instrument is discarded. Scalpel blades are usually individually packed in sterile pouches but are also offered non-sterile. The report forecast global Surgical Scalpel market to grow to reach xxx Million USD in 2020 with a CAGR of xx% during the period 2020-2025.

MADE IN THE USA
There exist very few knives that I would recommend to nearly everyone, at least to try, and this is one of them.
Ergonomics are spectacular, favoring medium and large sized hands but still very respectable in very small hands and superb for individuals with odd shaped hands like myself (large palm, short fingers). The knife carries well, riding a little high in the pocket for my taste with the stock clip, but thin enough to feel like much less knife is in your pocket than there actually is.
The steel, S30V, is hands down one of my favorites. At the cost of being only fractionally more difficult to sharpen, you get a blade with incredible corrosion resistance, incredibly long-lasting sharpness, and durability respectable enough to receive some serious abuse, more than most of us will ever put our knives through.
The PM2 also boast a compression locking system. The system is essentially a linear lock designed to be released from the back of the handle, rather than the underside. That is of course a slight over simplification but it is really all one needs to know. What is important is that this type of lock up allows one to close the knife without flipping it over or searching blindly for the lock with ones thumb. With a compression lock one can simply pull their index finger in from a standard grip and release the lock with a soft press (The concept can be a little difficult to grasp without seeing, if anyone would care for a picture please do not hesitate to ask). This may appear to be a lot of fuss over almost nothing, but it really does make a world of difference when handling the knife particularly when one opens and closes their knife frequently, and even more so if that knife is going in and out of a pocket every time. Such behavior becomes incredibly fluid and fast as soon as one familiarizes themselves with the knife, which in this case takes no time at all. While many atypical locking systems are often perceived as unnecessarily complex and offer very little utilitarian value to their knives, this is not the case with our subject. Of course there are exceptions, while very rare, some individuals will not care for the PM2′s locking system. When this does occur it is usually due to an improper grip and large hands managing to release the lock during use. I on the other hand have put my PM2 through a great deal of very hard use over the course of a few years, and have never come close experiencing this failure and, scores of other PM2 owners will tell you the same.
Two more common hang ups with this particular knife are frequent complaints regarding most Spydercos. “That stupid blade shape and those ugly thumb holes.” I personally find most Spyderco knives attractive, and if you don’t I cant really do much to alter your perception of reality can I? What I can do is speak to the utilitarian nature of both features. First lets take a look at the blade shape, it is essentially a very sharp drop point with a large belly. While it may not be the prettiest, it fully maximizes the potential of the two cutting task drop points are designed to accommodate best. Piercing and slicing, just from looking at this knife, its fairly clear that piercing will almost never be an issue. The drawback to this is that the tip of the blade is most certainly a weak point. This is an area of consideration where that S30V crucible steel really matters. On many of Spydercos lower end knives, which usually use VG-10( an excellent steel in it’s own right) broken tips are a fairly common occurrence. Keep in mind that this mostly due to misuse but If we’re being fair here I am sure most of us have used a knife in entirely the wrong way at least once or twice before. Back to the steel, thanks to the PM2′s premium steel, broken tips are far less common than what is expected, they still occur but very rarely and through great effort. The blades second shapely feature, its large belly, is designed to fully realize the slicing potential of a relatively short blade, and boy does it do that. Coupled with the blades relative thinness relative to its size, this knife slices far better than any other knife I’ve handled of a similar size and that is all there is too it. Overall, the blade shape of the PM2 does everything a drop point should, only better, and in a shorter package. So unless you need that extra reach, it’s pretty difficult to discredit this blade shape from utilitarian standpoint.
Hang up number two, is much more about aesthetics. The dreaded thumb hole, again I personally am quite fond of them. For a beginner they certainly make a knife much easier to open than your typical thumb stud but with experience I expect this advantage to dissipate as is the case with myself, I can open most knives with relative ease so I hardly notice the difference between a thumb hole or a thumb stud. With thumb holes however their are number of neat (and somewhat more dangerous) options when it comes to opening the knives (the spyderdrop is probably my favorite). Probably the most popular manifestation of this is the zip tie mod, common on Spydercos, it involves placing a zip tie through the thumb hole, pulling it taught, and clipping the excess. The zip tie serves as a catch which is supposed to snag on ones pants, allowing the user to open the knife at the same time that they draw it, not at all unlike the wave feature found on Emerson knives. I personally hate that feature and am not found of slicing up my pants, but to each their own. A final thing worth mentioning is that Spyderco thumb holes, particularly of this size, do technically create a weak point on the blade. In all honesty there isn't a great deal of metal along the outside of the whole, however this type of failure literally almost never occurs, even on Spyderco’s cheaper knives. Whether the weak points are significant or not is almost a non issue due to the level of severe mistreatment and misuse of the knife necessary to witness that type of failure. If one still can’t get past the aesthetics at this point I can’t do anything for you, but I am a firm believer in trying most things at least once.
An unseen advantage regarding this knife is the great deal of after market or custom parts that can be used to modify ones knife to their own liking. The options available to PM2s are potentially the most diverse in regards to any other knife on the market. This is due to the knife’s extreme popularity over a very long period of time relative to today's knife market, and their affordability. I personally have not had the best luck with knife modding but was brave enough to throw a titanium deep carry clip on to my my PM2 and it makes a world of difference in the way the knife carries.
PM2s are available in a wide variety of handle color options, as well as an option for a coated black blade. I’m not intimately familiar with their coating methods but they hold up very well. Recently Spyderco has also released a number of sprint runs featuring the knife with newer, supposedly better steels, I am unsure how long these will be available or how often these runs will occur but if I ever get my hands on one, you will see and hear about it here. These options often significantly affect price, unpopular trims will be cheaper for example.
For a number of reasons, the prices of these knives fluctuate greatly, if one gets very lucky they can be had for around 80 dollars. That is a great deal of luck mind you, their typical going prices tend to float in between 150 and 100 dollars, with 100 being a pretty good deal. Occasionally due to production shortages or what have you they can go for around 200+ dollars brand new. This happens much less frequently than it used to but with that being said, I would completely understand an individuals willingness to pay that premium, this piece is most definitely worth the cost.
If I could only have one folder from my collection for the rest of my life, disaster scenario or not, it would be this knife.
This is an amazon listing, as of the time of this posting they are offering some very fair prices on a number of different configurations.

Kitchen Gadgets
Kitchen Gadgets
I have to make a confession. I am addicted to buying things for the kitchen. From high tech kitchen gadgets to simple accessories, I have to have them all. In my defense, I do spend a lot of time in the kitchen and I do cook a lot so they do get used. Fortunately I have a large kitchen with a good work top area and lots of cupboards. If I was dropped on a deserted island without any kitchen gadgets, I must admit that I would probably struggle. It’s not that I’m spoiled, I just love using them.
My kitchen is crammed with the things that I’ve treated myself to and I also receive kitchen gadgets as gifts. It drives my husband mad! There are basic fundamentals that I update every so often, such as the food processor and deep fryer. Now, I’m not saying that an ice cream maker is essential but it is fun, as is the yogurt maker. I love my bread maker. I can put the mixture in at bedtime and wake up to the wonderful smell of freshly baked bread. The only down side is that I put on weight because the bread is so tasty. The rice cooker is very useful too, no more sticky lumps of goo.
I like to cook dishes from around the world so my kitchen gadgets reflect that I have a pasta maker and parmesan cheese shaver. I also like Chinese food so I have a non stick wok with all the accessories and a bamboo steamer for fish and vegetables. Indian food is another of my favorites and I have a set of Balti cooking pans and bowls. Not all kitchen gadgets are the result of modern technology. One of my treasured possessions is my granite pestle and mortar. It’s very efficient for crushing herbs and spices for my curries and I think it’s just about unbreakable.
My Espresso coffee maker saves me in the mornings. That’s one of the things I’d rescue from the house if there was a fire. I insist on the best, sharp kitchen knives and I have an electric knife sharpener. My knives sit in a knife block, including the large meat cleaver. I also have a knife with an extra thin blade for slicing salmon and ham. My other kitchen gadgets include a fruit and vegetable slicer, a juicer and a salad spinner.
Most of my friends grew out of the 1970s phase for fondue sets, but I still like them and I have a very nice cast iron one. I also like to make jam from the plums and blackberries that grow in my garden. I have the pan, thermometer and muslin strainer. You can’t beat a good old fashioned egg timer for making perfect eggs. Probably the most useful of the kitchen gadgets I have is the bookshelf that holds all my recipe books!
