so. it’s finally time to talk about [my] nano.
i’ve kept my nano project pretty under wraps so far, mostly because it’s been out of my hands. i wasn’t actually planning on doing a for real for real nano; instead, i thought i would dedicate some time to my fanfic (spoiler alert, but i haven’t yet) or work on finishing up revising fairbone (spoiler alert: i did revise one chapter, but i still have like half of it left to go and a nov 30 deadline...rip). if that didn’t work, i thought i would pick a wip i started over the summer or one i had half developed (let’s just say the ideas note i have really boomed over the summer and like...yeah). in conclusion, there were many wips ready for me to work on them, including ash heart, which i really want to write but haven’t figured out how to.
instead i started a new wip.
well, it’s not necessarily new, persay. it’s an idea i’ve had stewing since like late september/early october and planned out a good portion of. however, deciding to start it was a last minute decision - and by last decision, i mean that on october 31st i finished developing the barebones of character development and basic plot lol and then gave it a go. it’s honestly been going crazy well. as of today (november 9th), i just hit 21.2k words. i’m hopeful about this year, while also not wanting to jinx stuff, but like...wow. but writing is has made me realize that, wow, this book is going to be crazy long probably...like i’m 21k words in and we’re still like in the exposition idk what’s going on. but hey, i finished planning out the rest of the basic plot for it today!!!
right. onto the wip details.
honestly, the only reason i haven’t introduced this wip is because a) i want actual stuff done on it and like a proven commitment, because i feel like too often i introduce wips i don’t actually go anywhere with and i hate it, b) i don’t have a set title and c) i actually have no idea how to summarize this.
the novel i’m working on right now is the first of a projected trilogy. i say projected because i have a vague idea that it belongs to a trilogy, but like not a lot of plot except some vaguely connected ideas that should happen in the future. in it, i used a lot of characters from these violent ends, which i tried to write for camp april 2020, but like just their basic barebones; i changed a lot to fit the story, of course.
not to sound nerdy, but it is like....harry potter inspired, but ONLY in the magical boarding school sense. of course, right now all i have is magical boarding school shenanigans, which i don’t really like because i feel like it unfairly sets the book up as like fun magical stuff when it’s really about murder & politics & student activism (+ a lot of other things ending in -ism). the whole activism part came from watching the trial of the chicago 7 and i was like, bingo, this is what this story needs.
kay but ANYWAYS. onto the story. like i said, i can’t really summarize it, but there are lots of themes of classism, feminism, the affect on youth and youth’s effect, manipulative adults, revolution, terrorism, sibling dynamics and found family vibes, like all that stuff...packaged into a magical boarding school off the coast of maine setting...recipe for disaster!
mainly i’ve been writing in ophelia’s pov, because she’s my main girl and she’s problematic, but also she’s trying her best and just having a little difficulty fitting in. some other main characters are her twin brother, sebastian, and two other boys, asriel and vincent, who have an initially animistic relationship with ophelia (& kind of each other?) but it’s like enemies to friends (to lovers?).
anyways. here are some carefully curated excerpts below the cut:
i. vincent and asriel meet on a train (ch. 1)
The boy pursed his lips together. “It’s unusual,” he said, finally. “That’s all.” But he was looking at Vincent as if he was noticing him, which meant he was lying, or at least withholding the truth about something. He added, “You’re not from around here, are you?”
“Do you mean geographically?” Vincent replied, raising an eyebrow. “Because I’m from New York.”
A small glimmer of a smile appeared on the boy’s lips, though it vanished as quickly as it had come. “From the Magical World,” he clarified.
“What gives it away?” Vincent asked sarcastically, waving a hand across his body. “My impeccable taste?”
“Among other things,” the boy said.
ii. sebastian and ophelia discuss grief on a ferry (ch.2 )
“You and mom talked?” Ophelia asked, surprised. She hadn’t exactly been keeping track of them, but she was sure she and Sebastian had spent much of the day together, as they were wont to do.
Sebastian looked at the floor. “Yeah,” he answered, hoarsely. “At least she wants to talk about Des. Dad doesn’t, and neither do you.”
Ophelia sighed, wondering why, today of all days, her sister was haunting them. Maybe it was because there should have been three people heading to Rijevduct, instead of two. Maybe Mother Magic was reminded of the loss of one of her own.
“I’ve let her go,” she said. “You should too. We have too much of our lives ahead of us to mourn Desdemona forever.”
“I don’t mourn,” Sebastian said, words uncharacteristically sharp. “But I do grieve.”
“Isn’t that basically the same thing,” Ophelia mumbled, closing her eyes and feeling the press of a headache behind them.
“Sorrow,” Sebastian said, the word a soft shudder. “And sad endings.”
“What?”
“That’s what makes a good tragedy,” Sebastian answered. “I read it in a book.”
iii. headmistress alexeyev gives a speech (ch. 2)
“Eight years ago, seventy two students were slaughtered here. Some died on the very spot where you now stand today.” Ophelia glanced down at the floor, seeing the motion repeated instinctively around her as well. She looked over at Sebastian, who had closed his eyes instead, a pale flush meeting the faint color in his cheeks. His throat bobbed as he swallowed, tennis shoes scraping against stone as he toed them against the floor, as if he was shaking something only visible to him off.
“It was a tragedy,” Headmistress Alexeyev continued. “I say this because it is the truth. It was a tragedy, and not one that should never have happened.” She inhaled; Ophelia saw her chest rise, shoulders with it, in a sharp motion before she exhaled, body rearranging itself into poise once more. “I speak of this to tell you to assure you that Rijevduct is safe. I know there have been continuous doubts over the security of this school since that day eight years ago. I cannot, of course, guarantee that you will not come to any harm here. I cannot tell you that Rijevduct is the safe haven you were taught it was growing up; events have already proved that it is, in fact, not as impenetrable as one might think.”
Ophelia frowned, confused as to the line of reasoning. She had thought the whole point of the year of transition was to make sure that Rijevduct was infinitely more safer than it had been—and they had all been under the assumption that Rijevduct was virtually impenetrable until the massacre, which had led to the heightened security measures they saw today.
“I can, however, promise you that I, and everyone here today, will do anything in their power to keep you safe,” the Headmistress said. Next to Ophelia, Briar bowed her head, lowering her eyes and swallowing, the action almost a convulsion of her throat and mouth. Ophelia brushed her hand, lightly, in question, and the other girl just shook her head, looking away purposefully, so that Ophelia lost sight of her face and her sad eyes.
“These next three years will be far from easy. Gone are the sheltered lives where your parents could kiss your injuries goodbye, or sing you to sleep at night. Rijevduct is far from the cold, real world, but it is close enough when it comes to not asking you what you want first. This is an adjustment period. This is learning how to survive—and I will tell you this; surviving means many different things to many different people. You will have to decide on your own what this will mean for you, and how you will apply what you are taught here to your futures. Be wise. Be proud. Be humble. Cry. Laugh. Live. As your Headmistress, I, along with your professors, will be here throughout your time.” She raised her glass, “To the worthy,” and then drank, turning and walking back to her seat, which she lowered herself into gracefully.
iv. sebastian pov! (ch. 3)
There was a dead girl in Sebastian’s first period Magical Theory class. She was sitting diagonal from him, on the Glass side of the classroom, in an empty chair, staring straight ahead at the chalkboard. Sebastian tried not to look at her too obviously, his eyes straying from the open book in front of him to her cautiously, beneath the sleeve of his sweater.
She was sitting blankly in the chair, scraping her shoes against the ground, though they could not leave any scuff marks. Though she was the same faded shades most girls were, Sebastian could make out her pleated pale blue plaid skirt, which brushed around her knees, and the stained white blouse that might have once been spotless, but had been marred forever by the circumstances surrounding her death—objectively, that was to say, with blood. Her dark brown hair fell into loose curls around her shoulders, little silver studs glinting dimly, unable to catch the light. Her knee high socks now pooled around her calves and ankles, revealing a rotting bandaid on one of her knees. One of her tennis shoes was peeling at the toes, looking as if it had been ripped apart.
Her fingernails had all been pulled off. Sebastian was good at analyzing ghosts by this point; he recognized the bloody flesh and bone of the nail bed. There was also blood matted across her head, trickling down her temple, with bruises covering her body; they peeked out from beneath the collar of her shirt, blackened across her cheekbones with a sunken quality in particular to one of her cheeks, as if the bone had begun to cave.
Subjectively, she was far from one of the worst that Sebastian had seen.

no one asked but heres a list of bnt fics im working on. also with excerpts :) under the cut bc it got a little bit long but its really not That long its only six wips.
california friends.
its the au! you know the one i talk abt sometimes. its basically ted moves away when hes 11, they meet back up with theyre 19 and there are some plot elements from excellent adventure and bogus journey in there. currently im working on the 4th chapter and its got like. 16k words so far.
title from california friends by the regrettes and is subject to change..
“Hey, Jo,” he says when he gets over to her, “did you see that dude that just left?”     She looks up at him. “I think you’re gonna have to be more specific than that, dude.”     Oh, right. He looked like this.” As he says this, Ted realizes that he has no way to show her what maybe-Bill had looked like and quickly backtracks. “Wait, no, I mean – he had the most curly blond hair and–”      He struggles to think of an adequate way to describe his face. He doesn’t think he could, with the little amount of time he’d had to look at him. He still tries to think of something, nonetheless, and finds his mind wandering to a trip his twelfth grade art class had taken.     “Have you ever gone to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art?”     Joanna raises an eyebrow and nods.     “Okay, so you know the ancient Greek section?”     “Yeah...”     “He looked like that.”     “Like the ancient Greek section of the art museum.”     “Yeah. You know, like the statues in it?”
untitled trans ted fic
no proper name yet u_u. what it says on the name its just like. ted is trans and life happens. working on the 2nd chapter. 3.8k words so far.
They start working, but Ted finds that he's having a hard time focusing. Harder than usual, that is. And it isn't music or TV that's distracting him, but Bill.     Finally, he finds himself asking, "How'd you know how to say that?"     Bill looks up from his textbook. He'd been frowning down at it but now his expression lightens. "What? Oh, what I said to Deacon? I just said what you told me."     Ted stared at him. "I said that?"     "Yeah, dude."     "Huh... Hey, I'm pretty smart!"     "Undoubtedly!"     They air guitar together, grinning and Ted feels really good about this. He's so, extraordinarily glad he has Bill by his side.
i’ve got a castle in my sky for you and i.
sequel to that oneshot i posted! basically just bill, ted and missy driving around. 1.6k words so far.
title from pretective boy by skating polly because im unoriginal yea.
But then Bill smiles. It’s a lopsided, sleepy smile and Ted can’t help thinking about how beautiful he is with the growing sunlight coming in through the window and the dingy motel behind him.     “Oh, right,” he says and lets out a contented sigh. “What time is it?”     “Like, eight, I think,” Ted tells him. He nudges him a little with his shoulder.     “Come on, Missy already went in to book us a room.”
dude, take a picture!
oneshot about bill picking up photography! 1k words so far.
Missy gets him a Polaroid camera for his half birthday, although he doesn't think half birthdays are actually a thing or that his is in July. She shrugs this off with a, "Close enough." That's a good enough answer for Bill, who sets out to Ted's house with the camera in the little black bag it came in.    Ted grins when he opens the door and says, "Dude, finally!" before shouting a quick goodbye to Deacon and closing the front door. “So where to, my most distinguished colleague?”    “I have something most righteous to show you.” Bill grabs Ted’s hand to pull him down the street. He doesn’t really need to because Ted would follow anyways, but he’s excited to show him his new camera and actually put it to use.
untitled fic
umm uh this one is me projecting KHBSKGHBSG oneshot about ted having psychosis yea :) starts with bill and ted meeting in kindergarten and goes on. 750 words so far.
It's in alphabetical order, apparently, and that's believable enough when Jack sitting beside Ted tells him his name and Tiffany, across from Jack, is obvious, but then across from Ted is Anna and he's pretty sure A and T aren't next to each other (they're called the A-B-Cs, not the A-T-Js).     They play the introductory games Ms Hill tells them to until lunch. Ted thinks he's getting along pretty well, but Jack and Tiffany and Anna all sit and talk with other people in the cafeteria.     So he sits at the edge of the table with his legs kicking under the cheap plastic seat. He's just about to start picking at his tray of food when someone slides into the seat across from him and says, "Hey, dude!"
untitled lost boys crossover
basically bill falls out of the phone booth while its travelling, ted finds him in 1987 santa carla. also deacon is there bc a) i like the idea of him moving in with bill and ted while hes still in high school and b) i want him to befriend sam. working on the first chapter. 2k words so far.
“What does that mean?” he asks because he doesn’t want to jump to the ‘he’s dead’ or ‘he’s gonna be trapped in the circuits of time forever’ conclusions.     “Well, when I talked to Rufus, he said that he should have just landed in a different time. So it’s not... we shouldn’t worry. He’s looking to see if he can find anything that can help us find him, but we will find him. Nothing to worry about...”     “Oh.”     Deacon has never met Rufus, but from the way the four of them talk about him, he’s pretty sure he’s a smart guy who knows things, so he thinks he’ll stay in the not too worried lane, especially since Ted is definitely freaking out enough for ten people even with assurance from the future that it’ll work out.

3, 7, 9 WIP ask game :).
3: Does your WIP have a title? If so, explain its significance. If not, what are you calling it for now?
so i realized i never asked if y’all wanted to know about fanfic or original fiction—but since i’m nice i’ll just give y’all a few different answers to this one
original fiction
my novel is called Running In Circles, which i would love for it to be the final title since it has so much significance. both mains spend a rather decent time running away from their problems (bad coping mechanisms, kids) and running from God and i think that it’s just. good.
my short story for my creative writing class is called Are We There Yet? which i mostly got from the ingrid michaelson song of the same title, and also because it... fits the subject. a runaway bride and the best man driving the getaway car; it’s not the story you expect.
fanfiction
this new thing i’m working on doesn’t have a title, but it’s just dubbed reunion!everlark in my texts to cate. she knows quite a bit about that one ;) and it’s quite fun! it’ll probably only be a oneshot got some pining and banter in spades in that one.
oh and then there’s ghost!everlark
if i’m on fire, you’ll be made of ashes too
can anyone guess what song it’s from? this is my secret project, haven’t said much about it to anyone except cate. was hoping to have it out by halloween, but alas. also supposed to be a oneshot, but i might cave and post the very short prelude for halloween.
7: What are you most proud of?
for os: ric: how much i’ve developed the characters amid the years and changes when working on this novel. from cowritten to now it being just me.
how i’ve grown. i’m actually proud of a lot of the writing i produce these days. i know it’s silly to say but i really have gotten a lot better and wouldn’t be as proud of my writing in years’ past compared to now.
9: How would you describe your writing style?
gosh i never know how to answer this one. umm... i think it’s pretty simplistic. i would love to be compared to karen kingsbury one day.

STORY MASTERLIST
A (not so) comprehensive list of all the things I write about, all of which are subject to change at any given time because I do a lot of refactoring!
LOOOOONG POST INCOMING I write... a LOT, and I have... MANY projects :) Feel free to ask me about any of them! :)
With love <3 Continue reading below the cutoff if you want to know the basic rundown of my worlds and works!
ANGELVERSE:
This universe encompasses all of the angels and demons I like to focus on. Works in the angelverse will likely be about Faraday (formerly known as Efrem), a demon lieutenant, Ezekiel, a young angel, the archangel Uriel, or angel Raguel / angel Sophia (their stories are intertwined).
The main concept I have on Angelverse surrounds Faraday, who has grown into himself as a demon and made something of himself. He finds it impossible to shake who he was before. The question comes up during an important meeting between Heaven and Hell of whether he is truly Faraday or Efrem, his own self that he has shakily become, or the self he inherited from being his father’s son. There’s also brotherly angst between Faraday and Ezekiel, who refuses to let go of the past. (If you look at my old works tagged ‘ezekiel,’ you’ll see Ezekiel used to be a part of Faraday/his ‘ideal’ self, which is why new Ezekiel, separate from Faraday, reads so differently.)
The Raguel and Sophia stories are also closely linked to characters Andromeda and possibly Zachariah. Andromeda’s father runs a cult and has captured an angel in his attic. When Andromeda finds the angel (Sophia), her otherwise “normal” life is thrown into disarray as she starts unraveling threads about her father’s actions as a cult leader. If Zachariah is to be a part of it, he would be living with Andromeda’s family, having run away from his past.
Prominent characters in Angelverse include: Faraday, Uriel, Ezekiel, Stena, Michael, Ramiel, Raguel, Sophia, Zachariah, Ambriel, Ruhiel, Gabriel, Raphael, Luci, Bee, Sasha, Saoirse, and Heather. With the exception of Sophia, all names ending with “el” are angels, while the rest are demons. Also, I say prominent, but like half of these characters are from a bygone era (2018 when I first created them).
TW/CW for heavy religious (Christian) imagery, emotional abuse, violence, transphobia mentions and cult talk. Additional content warning because I tend to write angels as LGBT, but I recognize that some people are not comfortable with this affiliation with Christianity.
LUXTRURA (NOTE: LUXTRURA IS ON PERMANENT HIATUS):
Luxtrura is the name of a fictional country in ye olde European fantasy style, and I haven’t thought of a title for the WIP yet, so I mainly tag it ‘luxtrura’ or ‘luxtruran trio.’ This WIP is a fantasy / dystopian / political intrigue about an uprising in the kingdom of Luxtrura run by an inexperienced king and corrupt nobles all vying for the crown.
Luxtrura (at the current moment) follows the life of His Majesty Devron Fharren, the Eighth Fharren King, who inherited the crown by kingdom decrees at the age of 21. Unlike most kings, Devron has only had seven years of proper royal tutelage on statecraft, having only been named heir to the throne when he was 14. He soon finds he has inherited a kingdom that has been deeply wounded, that his people hate him, and that he has few allies among his own country’s nobles, his friends, and neighboring royalty. Revolution is brewing, and he has a choice to make: to claim his birthright or to help his people.
Prominent characters include: Devron Fharren, Eden Barison, Mili Starr, Plumeria Rwalke, Lilia Tao, Rassaya Tao, Andrea (a mysterious stranger who gives only her first name), Jakob Fiyre, Cordelia Fiyre, Liseline Fiyre, Sonja, and Orange and Rouse (the dragons).
TW/CW for violence, sexual assault mentions, transphobia mentions, political talk, blatant classism, and death.
GLOWING EYES:
A “what-if” scenario where Victor Frankenstein and Dorian Gray had met and become friends and also Frankenstein wasn’t a man and was named Viola and was not a pleb weakling like Victor. Also Dorian Gray is fat because I said so.
This story reimagines the Frankenstein and Dorian Gray cast as students in their final year of the prestigious University of Ingolstadt, with Frankenstein having returned from a year off during which she was suspended for [redacted] reasons. The vibe we’re going for is dark academia, but I don’t think they ever actually do any learning?
Prominent characters include: Viola Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, Elizabeth Lavenza, Henry Clerval, Basil Hallward, Deukalion, and special shoutout to Justine Moritz and Sibyl Vane because I didn’t want to put them in, but they definitely deserved better in the source material.
TW/CW for death, violence, toxic/obsessive relationships, grave-robbing, body part mentions (eyes, limbs, etc), and mentions of the Devil. Basically, if it was a concerning part of either the Frankenstein or Dorian Gray stories, it will still be concerning.
Fun fact, there is a Glowing Eyes playlist that I am NOT too ashamed to share with the public! :D
HELEN OF LEGEND:
A retelling of the Helen of Sparta story that explores Helen’s thoughts and motivations. Who was the woman behind the face that launched a thousand ships? And did she ever even want those ships to be launched? (Spoiler alert: the answer is no.)
Helen of Legend gets pretty heavy handed because I get really mad about people lauding the Greeks as the end all be all of culture, and I’m still really mad about how people dress Millie Bobby Brown up like she’s 25-40, so make of that what you will.
On the bright side, Helen of Legend is a sapphic retelling!
Prominent characters include: Helen, Leda, Menelaus, Clytemnestra, Penelope, Theseus, Aphrodite, Paris, Cassandra, Hector, and Hecuba.
TW/CW for misogyny, implied past sexual assault, sexual assault mentions, mentions of spousal and emotional abuse, people being generally creepy about bodies, people being creepy toward children (Theseus), cities burning, subtle classism, and death.
OF DANCERS AND DREAMERS:
A musical about Anne-Marie, a non-binary Vietnamese lesbian born into a wealthy family, and Jules, a Tunisian baker’s daughter who is working her way into the Paris ballet. Anne-Marie wants to be a designer, but their mother, Mme Trinh, has other plans. The year is 1884, and it was hard for the Trinh family, as immigrants, to establish their foothold in society, and Mme Trinh will not have her child throw away the family’s hard work. One day, while at the ballet, Anne-Marie becomes smitten with Jules, a ballerina with the most dazzling smile. They find solace in sharing their passions with one another and become friends, each eventually realizing they have fallen for the other in a time that is unfriendly to both of them.
Prominent characters include: Anne-Marie, Jules, Victor, Mme Trinh, and Amandine.
TW/CW for subtle homophobia, classism, mental illness, and parental guilt tripping/emotional toxicity.
THE LYRE EFFECT:
A play about life after death, and what it means to live and love. This play follows Patroclus upon his death, desperate to return to Achilles. He meets the reluctant Eurydice, embittered by decades alone in limbo halfway between life and death. Together, they almost throw someone off a boat (is it really murder if they’re already dead?) and have a chance to tell their stories, stepping out from the shadows of their more famous lovers.
I took a lot of liberties with this, so Orpheus is a woman (wlw OrphEurydice), and I would like for both Achilles and Patroclus to be played by trans men, and for all of the characters to be played by non-white actors.
Prominent characters include: Patroclus, Eurydice, Achilles, Orpheus, Apollo, Hades, Charon
TW/CW for talk about death
SPEED ROUND (OR: THINGS I WRITE ABOUT THAT AREN’T AS AMBITIOUS JUST YET/AT THE CURRENT MOMENT):
Here Lies Forever - a story focusing around two young people, Medb Flaherty and Virgil Sutherland, growing up at an orphanage amid war, abandonment, and sickness. Medb is a blind writer who dreams of traveling the world with Virgil, her best friend since their teen years, but when the war strikes too close to home, Virgil leaves Medb and their peaceful student life behind to join the army. Unwilling to let go, and recognizing the pain Virgil is in, Medb takes it upon herself to save Virgil, the both of them haunted by the ghosts of their pasts.
On the Corner of Maple Street - short stories about the lives of Sarah and Evangeline together, two lesbian women who met when Sarah was 28 and Evangeline was 31. Sarah was a toy maker and Evangeline was an actress. They have a son named Oliver, who’s now in his forties, and they’re grandmas to all the neighborhood children. They live on the corner of Maple Street :)
Partager Un Reve - short stories, often romantic, about two circus performers, Alyona Ledbedeva (who does aerial silks) and Li Mey Ri (an acrobat). They’re cute together, there’s not really much to say here.
Claire  - there’s a really old novelette floating around on my account and you can find it if you search Claire, but like it’s OLD. An 18th century French lady who contracted TB and died but was brought back by a necromancer named Cecil (Cecil is the character of my friend @sinnabon-cosplay !) and is now immortal. Fun times with Claire and Anthony usually involve lamenting the fact that they’re stuck as teenagers.
Miscellaneous - miscellaneous demon and monster characters like Alexander, Felicity (both vampires), Sparrow (succubus/Heather’s youngest sister), Zephyr (fae, husband of Spar), Lycan (she’s... a werewolf), and so on. Not really connected to a plot
Performing Possumhood - uh this was a play I wrote with my friend @holdingonmyheartlikeahandgrenade for a 24 hour play festival, it’s about a guy named Thomas who becomes herald for a kingdom and then on his first day of work, the king dies, and his son becomes king, except the new king??? is a possum???? and like no one does anything about it, so Thomas just feels like he’s going insane, poor guy (also everyone else is named Thomas except the king, whose name is His Majesty King Parthur Pencildragon of Alpacalot)
Nordic questing team - I’ve literally written nothing for these fools, but I’m tempted to make it into a dnd campaign! The characters I have are Val (short for Valnotte) (she’s a nokke), Hanne (human poison seller who wears an eyepatch just because), Fur (short for Bjorgolfur, he’s a werewolf who left his pack because he was too good at being alpha wolf but he didn’t want to be alpha, he wanted to press flowers and have a cute little cottage by a cliffside with a pretty garden damn it), and Bo (full name: Boscobel Blue, he’s a cow boy. Literally. He has cow ears and a big septum piercing and a tail. Also he’s a shepherd. His sheep are carnivorous :))) Make of that what you will)
Alice x Secret Garden - another play but where Alice Liddell and Mary Lennox are 18 years old and find themselves in Wonderland, after Mary is jaded from the end of WW1 and is frustrated at her friend Dickon’s marriage proposal, and Alice runs away, trying to retain her childhood as best she can
Retellings - I do myth and fairy tale and folk retellings! :) You can search ‘Tithonia’ for my sleeping beauty retelling, and I wrote Orpheus and Eurydice a while back. Still working my way through Icarus :’) Also ‘Mermaids Can’t See’ is a retelling of the classic mermaid story but written as a ??? field guide? journal entry? notes about mermaids?
If there’s a work you want specifically about a character, I always tag characters, and I also will tag character introductions and pictures/references of them as “beanpuff char[]”!

👀 spare a WIP for a weary traveller
This isn’t going to happen for a LONG TIME but spoilers, eventually in Lucky Star, Christopher gets a little more human, and finds a hobby that he rather likes.
“You’re reading one of his?”
“What?” Ripley bent the mass market completely in half, setting it upside down on the coffee table. Samuels winced.
“That author,” he specified.
“Oh, yeah. I’ve read the whole series so far,”
“I didn’t think high-fantasy interested you much.”
“Not usually, but I’m over the shoot-outs, military lit, and what generally passes for fantasy anymore. Retro science fiction only goes so far too,” she shrugged. “But I kind of like this guy, he’s got a…I don’t know, his perspective is weird. I like it. Except that thing in this one, where they brought in the wyvren hatchery, the way they move…Reminds me too much of shit.”
“I like what he did with them though; dragons are far too beloved of a feature to demonize at this point, especially by a newer voice.”
“You read them?” Amanda perked up.
“…Technically.”
“What did you think?”
“I want to know what you thought—“
“Nope, you first.”
“I think they could have been better,” he began. “Too many instances where you can tell the author is merely reciting a scene instead of creating one. I think several conversations between the knights and their lords are taken from his own experiences,” there’s more he could pick apart, so much more, but Amanda looks crestfallen as it is, and he’s a little confused by it.
“Yeah but I don’t think he was wearing armor, or talking about a surge of monsters in real life.”
“Well, you never know,” he said with a slight grin.
“What do you mean?”
“You know that I’ve met many, many people through the company. I could have possibly seen him one day,”
“There’s no fucking way that you’ve met McClaren,” Amanda crossed her arms.
“Why not?”
“He lives in Scotland, for one; two, he’s probably ancient, so what would he be doing in the HR office of Weyland-Yutani, on Luna?”
“I don’t know, but I am familiar with him.”
“You’re lying,” she didn’t bother biting back her smile—she never bothered to around him.
“I’m not lying, and I’ll prove it to you,” she didn’t ask him to elaborate further, and he vanished for a short moment to his office, returning with a hardcover of the second novel.
“So you own a hardcover?”
“Open it,” he said, handing it to her. Amanda raised her eyebrow at him, flicking through the pages, before falling back on something strange on the title page that she missed in her copy of the book.
“holy shit. He signed it for you? The guy never does signings!”
“How do you know he doesn’t?”
“I looked him up once...read a lot about him. I thought you’d like the series, and I was going to try to find a boxed set of it for a gift for you, and see if I could get it signed. But then I found out that a) he doesn’t fucking sign anything ever, b) no one knows what he even looks like, and c) there’s another book left."
“There’s at least one, but knowing him he’ll probably drag it out for another two. He isn’t exactly...aware of human time and space.”
“Wait...Are you still in contact at all?”
“Yes but you can’t talk to him. I’m afraid to lose you to him,”
“Shut up,”
“I am though; he’s no older than I am. And is…apparently, your type.”
“I have at least three types.”
“He’s…much like me.”
“Then I’d rather keep you, not the updated-famous-writer-you. But I just want to ask him-- I’m mad about the alchemist—how could she not know what she was doing? If the king was using her work to help breed the wyverns, she had to know something, she couldn’t be that blind.”
“Perhaps she thought her work would help someone she loved.”
“That’s a whole other thing, that weird statue-hexed-to-life thing by some fuck up of hers? It doesn’t have a soul or a thought of it’s own and it’s...It’s creepy. She never even questioned it. And as far as her research for the wyvren hatchery—how would she think that the king gave a fuck about her science project sex toy—“
“That is awfully cruel, she really thinks that given enough power he might be able to live outside of her study, to be a person.”
“She fucked him though. Without knowing that he can’t say no to her. It was skeevy.”
“We were sleeping together nearly a month before you realized that—at the time—I couldn’t tell you no—“
“Again different story—“
“—is it? And why do you like the character so much if everything she does bothers you that much?”
“…She’s on her own. She came from nothing and now works under the king, not at the big castle of course, but still.”
“I don’t think she thought she was helping the king’s project; or that he was trying to breed monsters in the first place. Her father died in a dead-end battle for him, but…it happens all the time. Accidents. Mishaps. She doesn’t know—“ “Wait, did her dad die at one of the dens?! Oh my god it’s too long until the next one. And shit, if--” Amanda stops herself. Samuels isn’t going to call the guy up just becuase she wants spoilers, but--, well. Actually, that’s the exact kind of thing that Samuels would do.
“She does find out; and her ‘sex toy’ finds the record of her father’s death.”
“How do you—do you have an advanced copy?” he leaves the room again, and she half expects another treasure, an early release with a note in the front, maybe? Instead, he returns with the notebook she had bought him for Christmas.
“I’m…getting to the point where it’s beyond something that I can…bend out of my own experiences. I don’t want to lean too heavily on folklore but for now it’s the best I can do to avoid just copying out Beowulf.”
“…….You wrote a fanfiction?”
“Amanda, I wrote the whole series.” His partner is silent, and he’s wondering if she hasn’t already guessed it in the past, but she’s clearly in shock. “The author’s first two initials are ‘C. S.’ and that didn’t—“
“I thought it was a Narnia reference!”
“How didn’t you figure out you’re a main character—“
“……I’m the creepy alchemist?! And--she’s like…minor royalty. And pretty.”
“I think you are,” there’s a moment when it clicks in, the secondary character, her hair color, her attitude, her lover, her missing parent, her drive, her lover’s tender affection towards—and it clicked. And other scenes clicked too.
“You wrote and published a sex scene about us?”
“….I’m sorry? It was a fade-to-black though, nothing happened on the page. In the moment it felt like that’s...where they wanted to go.”
“When were you going to tell me about this? Not--not the alchemist but all of it, how did you even keep this a secret???”
“I started…writing memories. Then I could change them. Slightly, and eventually I could reset them entirely and even add and take things and…I figured out how to make things up. As for how I kept it a secret, well, I don’t require a fraction of the rest that you do, and while I do enjoy relaxing with you, I like feeling as if I’m accomplishing something.”
“Look at you figuring out how to be creative,” she did look proud of him, and she was, even if it would take a while to fully comprehend it.
“I’d appreciate it...if no one else found out.”
“People love you—“
“They love a thing that I made.”
“And you by extension—“
“I’d lose my royalties, copyrights, and probably my waking job too if I was exposed on a large scale.”
“You’re being dramatic—royalties?”
“…I…I’ve been saving them.”
“For what? I mean you make a decent check at the meteo center, and the flat’s paid off so what—“
“If you ever want to try--the genetics laboratory on Titan.. We’ll need tickets, lodging for multiple months. Supplies. Medical—it’s…not—don’t think that you have to make your mind up if you aren’t ready--only if you did I thought having the funds ready would...”
“I’m the one that brought it up, but I think…Another day we’ll talk about it but—spoil it for me,” she changed the subject. “Tell me what’s going to happen.”
“You can read it.”
“…You did’t write another sex scene did you?”
“….Yes but not for publication. There’s one that I was going to include but—it was too tasteless, it didn’t suit the rest of the story, and I thought it unnecessary. They arrive back at the main group the following afternoon, walking closer, touching more. Readers will know something happened.”
“But you did write it.”
“…I did. I also wrote another six hundred pages of plot and character development aside from it.”
“I want to read it,”
“Read the actual story first—please I don’t know what I’m doing with it, and it’s overdue to the editor—“
“I’m sure it’s perfect—“ she remembers the dedications at the opening of each book perfection’s closest being, love of my eternity. “The dedications… I’m…I’m the woman they’re all for. All those thank you’s and acknowledgements and—“
“There’s no one else,” he means it in honesty and love. Of course there’s no one else. So few friends and so few confidants. If there were more, she’d still be the one they’re dedicated to, but as it stands, there is quite literally no one else.
“Could you read it to me? The whole thing. I want to hear it, if it’s so important to you.”
“That’s a lot of –“
“Just a little! Each night a chapter or two. I want to hear it from you, how it was meant to be heard.”
AAAAAND that’s all you get. This is a stand alone bit inside of my “bad AU ideas” file that often ends up getting chopped up for later chapters of LS. This is likely to happen but the thing with Titan isn’t (a genetics lab, the sense being that they’d eventually have a kid/science project of their own). Maybe a one-shot becuase Samuels fretting over an infant is ridiculously cute but it’s not gonna fit the final version of them in Lucky Star.

11/11/11 Tag
I was tagged by the very cool @thatfizzyyyy. Always a pleasure.
Rules: Answer 11 Q’s, ask 11 Q’s, and then tag 11 people to answer.
1. How do you feel about writing diversity?
I think diversity is important and there’s always room for more! Main cast, background cast, etc. and in media in all it’s various forms
2. Remember that one WIP that’s unnamed? Quick give it a name!
Uhhhh, “And so we meet Again”. It’s a sequel!
3. How do you keep yourself accountable for your writing (goals, daily word counts, rewards) if at all?
I DONT AND NEED TO START DESPERATELY. I’m horrible when it comes to setting goals and sticking to them. However, I’m making yet another list of things that I’d like to accomplish for 2019 (I make one every year and usually complete the items) and writing goals will be a new addition to the list.
4. What would be a good crossover with your WIP?
Supernatural maybe. Schuyler would be an amazing hunter and would really hit it off with Sam and Dean.
5. Which of your characters do you think the fandom will misinterpret the most and why?
Maybe Miguel. He’s going to appear as an ally in the beginning, but depending on how much I use him (as he’s a side character only meant to show up a few times and still in development) he may be revealed to be the very opposite.
6. Did you eliminate any characters from your original cast? Did you add any?
Main cast? No to both. I knew what I was getting into when I started formulating this project. Though, Miguel is a side character (who may or may not end up having an important role in the future) who was added in later after I had already laid the ground work for my WIP.
7. Kill, kiss, marry with OCs whose names start with A, J, and S (or close to those letters).
Kill Alexander Lestrade as he is a minor villain. (His story is currently shelved though, poor thing.)
Kiss Jesse because he’s a generally fun guy to be around.
And marry Sky because have you seen her? Have you read her personality and been subjected to her humor? She’s my fave. She’s my girl! She’s also the “good child” in my WIP.
8. Is there anything unusual that gives you motivation?
Random day dreams. Sometimes looking at pictures will trigger some creativity.
9. What’s a cool fact about your world? Or about your characters, if there’s no fantasy/sci-fi elements?
Schuyler is ambidextrous. She can shoot with either hand/eye and throw knives expertly with either hand.
*I have a million tidbits about Sky, and am working on developing them for other characters to sprinkle throughout the story. Feel free to ask me anytime. Unfortunately, my WIP is set in modern America, so I have no world building tidbits for you for this one.
10. What was the best scene you’ve written so far?
TROD is all about making friendships and forming family bonds in the most unlikely of places. Schuyler is at the age where she’s considered to be the middle child (most of the guys are older than her and the few prospects that are around are younger). Jackson, vice president with a shared family history to Schuyler, will very quickly take a liking to Schuyler and act as her protective older brother throughout.
Their relationship is built on these small pocket moments of private discussions between just the two of them. Jackson often feels as if Schuyler is the only one he can trust and seek advice from and vice versa. I just wrote the first scene where this happens after a job goes wrong and Schuyler took initiative by helping Jackson find true north. Their relationship is going to be very interesting when all is said and done.
11. Which of your characters has surprised you the most since you started writing your WIP?
I learn something new about Schuyler almost every day it seems.
Her relationship with Jackson surprised me a lot. I knew I was going to bring background (B & C list type) characters to the fore ground and I wanted her to have meaningful relationships with each of the boys, but theirs ended up being the first to form and will end up being the strongest overall.
I tag: @sashathewriter, @push-the-draft, @alixismad, @butwhydoilikethis, @feministcalliope, @feathersandfortunes, @poder-de-las-palabras, @hazeywrites, @fangirlmo, @possiblypan-actuallyace, & @theouterdark
As well as anyone else who sees this and wants to answer some questions. My 11 to you are as follows:
1. Do you prefer to have one story to focus on at a time or do you like to work on multiple pieces at once?
2. If you could change the title of any of your previous works, what would you change it to and why?
3. About how many words can you type per minute?
4. Is there a IRL place in the world that you have yet to write about in a story, but would like to and why? (If not, where in the world do you personally want to visit?)
5. What’s a cool fact about your world? Or about your characters, if there’s no fantasy/sci-fi elements?
6. How do you keep yourself accountable for your writing (goals, daily word counts, rewards) if at all?
7. What was the last book you read? Did it inspire you to write, return to writing after a break, or write something specific when you finished?
8. What’s the last detail you remember adding to any story, character, world you created (list as many as you’d like)?
9. How many notebooks do you currently own and are using? What are they for?
10. What caused you to take your last break from writing and what brought you back to writing? (If this is too personal, than how long do you consider a “break” for writing?)
11. What are your personal writing goals for 2019?

💟Yes I’m very excited to see how else Swear will diverge from Promise! And I’m excited to see Eren back with Y/N too! We just got a Swear update but any possibility of a SitH update sometime soon? I can’t help but feel excited knowing more regular updates are coming so thank you either way😁 And I would seriously love seeing gladiator Levi and Jaegerist Y/N would be so fun to read so I’ll be running to read that when it comes out-
I think it’s going to be fun! There’s a pretty big divergence from both promise and canon that’ll happen in a while…lol it’s going to be rough. And ofc Eren has to come back to get his girl 😩🤝
I hope so! I’ve been working on SitH so a update is def on the horizon but I don’t know if it’ll be the absolute next story to get a new chapter. I have a lot of WIPs and inspiration strikes for different ones randomly so there might be a while where I just update one fic with like five chapters in two weeks or I might be more consistent and rotate my time between all of them. Complicated answer but basically a new SitH chapter is def coming but other things might see updates first! Or not lol.
I’M SO EXCITED TO WRITE BOTH actually I started a gladiator levi fic and posted it a LONGGG time ago before endure got more readers so a lot of people didn’t really see/read it. I ended up deleting it which I’m glad about as I’ll be able to write it in a better way now which will be good.
I’ve started the Jaegerist Y/N story a couple of times…it was actually supposed to come out before Swear! I even had a title and everything but it just wouldn’t come out QUITE right and I was never happy with it so I gave up. With that said I basically have the entire plot outlined…ofc it’s subject to change but it’s a story that I’ve worked on for a while so it’s as important to me as endure honestly, even though it’s barely been written yet 😭 I think I might be able to finally write it though! We’ll see…that might be a weekend project or something.
As a little tumblr exclusive (hehehe) I’ll let you know what the titles of both upcoming fics will be! They’ll be keeping their original titles because they both have meaning, which I’ll explain here.
The Jaegerist Y/N story is Hostis Humani Generis, which means “enemy of humanity” in Latin. It’s a legal term for someone so outside of the law that any nation can arrest/deal with them. I think it’s very fitting for a reader that becomes a Jaegerist and helps destroy humanity! I don’t know how I stumbled upon the term but it’s so perfect that I’m glad I did!
The gladiator Levi story is To Mourn a Wild Elephant. It’s derived from a quote, which is “he who mounts a wild elephant goes where the elephant goes.” However I changed mount to mourn to set the mood and also for some foreshadowing LMAO…elephants will probably appear as symbolism a lot!
