(it's amazing how they got together with her husband and how they're still not divorced...) It was necessary for her to set her son on the right path, she wanted to give him a future that she thought was better and good for him.

Since most of the time she was engaged in the upbringing of her son, while his father was lost in endless expeditions and explorations of the Gemstone Sea, it was she who contributed to the fact that Octavian gave up his dream, compelled by the fact that a more serious and promising a great future profession is just what he needs. a lot of money, a good post - is it really possible to give up all this?

Since then, Octavian has followed the path his mother wanted to set him on, wanting what she herself had - a job with important paperwork in a corporation. Thus the young man became what he is now - a logistics manager in one of the most fundamental corporations in Ferngill - Joja.

But in the end, during this "small" business trip that led to the valley, Octavian began to have doubts about his path again. Doubts that slowly turned to a sense of betrayal of himself.

The betrayal of that small, naive boy, who had read all the books on marine biology and his father's scientific notes with incredible enthusiasm time after time.

Aang being a shitty dad is fine, but it's the way tlok makes Aang a shitty I have a problem with. You're telling me a guy who's entire culture was whipped out and whole family was massacred wasn't overjoyed at the possibility of sharing his culture with his entire family?

Would Aang have given more attention to Tenzin? Probably, them being the only airbenders would have almost certainly fostered a complex dynamic between the two— even to the extent that it would damage the father/son relationship. I think it's also worth pointing out that Aang was raised in a culture without the nuclear family dynamic we see him participarting in with Katara and their kids, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that Aang would fall short of the expectations and responibilities being a typical father figure brings especially when he himself never experienced that dynamic. Especially, especially compounded with the task of rebuilding a struggling world and maintaining peace.

However, do I think he would neglect to show his kids his culture? Their culture? No. Certainly not the extent he did, and especially not when we see how excited he is to share it with his friends in the show. Why wouldn't he be excited to share it with his kids? With all his kids? How the writers of The Legend of Korra make him a bad dad is a complex series of failures not the least of which stem from racism, the unwillingness to even attempt an understanding of multicultural families, TLOK originally being a 12 episode miniseries that then got greenlit for another season and was suddenly taxed with building upon a world that was never intended to exist beyond its original scope, and a fundamental misunderstanding of Aang as a character.

So, one of the things i noticed while watching XY is how attentive everyone is when it comes to Bonnie, and its not just the Kalos Gang, its their pokemon as well. This was shown to us pretty early on too, in episode 3 "A Battle of Aerial Mobility!" with Froakie and reinforced multiple times as well! Mostly with Pikachu and Clemont's pokemon team,

And I was kinda wondering if you will be showing this in your au? This part of the series is probably one of my favourite little details of the series, since it shows a different side of the whole group.

(and sometimes, it plays into the story as well! like in episode 36 with Fletchling! this episode is so dear to me)

Oh, that's one of my favourite details of XY for sure, nonnie, how did you guess /j But yeah!!! Definitely something that I'll dig into in this AU, because it shows so much care and love and just,, my heart <3

One think I really do love about that particular aspect of XY is that it's not an overbearing part of the series in and of itself, balancing with moments where Bonnie herself goes on to support the others in their endeavours too, while also having that touch of vulnerability and helpfulness that is present in everyone (and goes a long way in strengthening bonds). As you said with EP36 'Battles in the Sky!', she bonds with Fletchling over being small and considered weaker for it, and that helps give the birb the spirit to go up against that Talonflame. And I would go so far to say that Ep45 'Splitting Heirs!', no matter how painful it is to my heart, does support how Bonnie goes on to treat Tyrunt in EP88 'The Tiny Caretaker!' by being strict at times while also still having her caring charm.

But also ugh the way the whole gang just look at her and think 'yep, that's my sister too now' is so 🫠 to me. It's definitely very prominent when Clem was absent, where Bonnie basically dubs Serena as her emotional support person when it comes to sleepytimes heh, but also it's everywhere in XY! We've even got the Rival Trio helping out the gang in finding her with EP41 'Foggy Pokemon Orienteering!' and especially Tierno being an absolute sweetheart chilling with her in EP66 'Good Friends, Great Training!'. And we don't get started in XYZ, that's her season :P

Even with the Pokemon, which makes sense because she's so happy and open with them! And they're all friends here! When Froakie helped out it was to perserve her joy, just like with Bunnelby trying to support her search for Squishy in 'A Cellular Connection!'. They all just want the best for her and the fact that she isn't their trainer just makes it more deeper, to me. The Pokemon choose to help others just as much as people do, and it is the strength of her heart and her will that also helps bridge that connection as well. That's how even an uber-OP mon like Pikachu can crawl into her lap and purr just as much as nuke TR on her behalf lol, or how a standoffish mon like Froakie can work with her interests in mind, even if he does add his own twist (revenge) into it.

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

Hmm...! Toby and Donald have both been super rewarding. I know I carped about the process of working with them a lot - I felt pressured because my problems with them emerged only after I started publishing a fic that people were reading. But! I did enjoy the "problem" of working with them. I'd never written them very much before but they wound up with more screentime cos I found I really liked them.

They wound up adding a lot of depth to the story, cos neither wishes to get dragged into #Drama. But they're also both quite well-equipped to handle it, when they are. 😈

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

I was having some difficulty with Thomas and Gordon early in the year, specifically sketcing out where they land at the end of Small World. They had to be quintessentially #Them, even though they're in an alt-timeline and some heavy stuff has gone down and their relationship can't be the same as how we know it. But it still has to be recognizable. Very so.

Was pulling out my hair for a few weeks, but once I finally produced good copy for them I was basically ready to start my second draft/publishing!

Ironically, Toby with Henrietta was a also bit of a speed-bump. Too straight-married-couple coded for my blood! Again, once I got the hang of it things were fine (writing Henrietta's reaction to Toby's two near-fistfights in Ch. 5 was fun) but it certainly required a few runs before I got my wheels under me.
