Found it in a roundabout way. I was watching an episode of American Vandal and wondered why Sam’s nickname is “ketchup packet” so I searched and found a few old fan tumblrs. Sadly no reason given, I fear we shall never know. Did he like sucking ketchup out of the packet as a kid? Idk.

One blog mentioned a podcast Griffin did with Tyler Alvarez where they improvised as Sam and Peter for half an hour and I’d love to hear that. So another search and also nothing, though Tyler’s page on Getty Images came up (later found the podcast on Spotify, linked in next post).

So I searched Griffin’s name. It’s interesting to see some events he’s been to and admire the outfits (and occasionally not admire them tbh, a few things seem too long or short, or mashed together). rafael was born an only child to two loving parents. he grew up as a rather normal kid with a love for cooking. this soon became his original plan for work growing up. when he was a kid, he'd always help his mother with cooking and baking, becoming a way they bonded. once he was a teenager he'd start helping more in the kitchen, sometimes making dinner or baking things so his parents could have a break from time to time. he'd always make deserts for their birthdays as well as for friends he made.

as he was hanging out with friends when they decided to go on a trip together for spring break one year. not a typical spring break trip, but one they'd all enjoy over beaches and all that. during this trip rafael was the one who'd take videos and photos of their fun times to share on his tiktok and instagram pages, gaining a following there which soon lead to this new passion for using the camera. so it became something he'd do in his free time.

shortly after turning eighteen, he was supposed to finish his last year of high school but dropped out to focus on his mental health. soon after he did regret it which lead to him pushing himself to get his GED a year later. shortly after he took some local classes to improve his skills with culinary, still focused on making a living with it. managing a chef job in a local restaurant so start saving up to move out.

Reflections on a Year of Reading Dominican Republic Literature

Books: Return To Sender by Julia Alvarez, Drown by Junot Diaz, With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo , Let It Rain Coffee by Angie Cruz

General Reflections 

After reading about a year’s with of Dominican Republic books, I feel like these authors tell a story like they went through it. Each author uses words and descriptions that are us feel like they were really there and it makes us understand the book more. For example in the book Return to sender the author Julia Alvarez uses description when she writes letters like she was writing them to a person living on her farm in secret. Also in With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo she writes the book about a senior in high school living her life with a baby and it almost sounds like she was the girl she was writing about. Both these authors describes their story like they witnessed the whole thing or it was their story. In Drown and Let it Rain Coffee both authors focus around the theme of neglect . In Drown Diaz talks about how these kids are left alone to cook for them self and have to work and steal stuff just to put food on the table and in Let It Rain Coffee by Cruz the family is left to go work and everyone has certain roles so they can have money to put food on the table but in both stories there is one kid who is to young to work and is always home alone by them self neglected from the world and family. 

What I’ve Learned About Life From Dominican Republic Literature 

The first book I read was Return To Sender by Julia Alvarez . This book taught me that making friends is easy and that people live with lies, also people live totally different from one another. Throughout the book, Alvarez talks about how Tyler opens his land for the Cruzes and how they start this amazing friendship. Tyler also notices how the Cruzes live so much different from them, all the Cruzes know is work work work and Tyler knows school, play, a little work, They have totally different lives but live on the same property. Tyler even lies to everyone so the Cruzes can live here without the cops on them. 

The second book I read was Drown by Junot Diaz. This book taught me we all look different but we are all the same on the inside. Rafa and his brother bully this boy who has to wear a mask to cover is scar and burned up face so the sun didn’t make it worst when he was outside. Rafa and his brother made fun of the boy all the time and then their dad used to bully them and the boys realized what they did to him was wrong. They went to find the boy and apologize for everything they did wrong and the boy was getting bullied by other people so Rafa and his brother fought them off for him. After they apologized for everything and thy changed their mindset for the rest of the book. The book taught me not to judge someone by looks, it’s more than looks it is what is on the inside that matters. 

The third book I read was by far my favorite it was called With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo.  This book taught me that life throws challenges at us but it is for a reason and we have to get through them.  Emoni had a baby her freshman year and now she as senior working at a burger place and trying to focus on her amazing culinary career while dealing with a baby and her baby daddy and her new boyfriend all at once.  This book was so relatable because I a,  a senior in high school and I am focusing on college and have gotten so many challenges to get through. After reading I know I can get through anything I put my mind together and as long as I believe in myself I can do it. 

My last book is called Let It Rain Coffee by Angie Cruz, and I didn’t finish the whole book but I did enjoy it I will probably finish it soon. This book did teach me keep living life with no regrets. Don Chan wife dies and he lives his life with regret since then. He went on to live with is son and then his son passed away randomly, now  Don Chan lives his life like any day is his last.  Don Chan knows any day is his last and he wants to spend every day thinking it is after he lost the two most important people in his life. 

What I’ve Learned About Myself and Reading

Throughout the four books I read I realized that I can kinda relate to them all and their is more to the story than what we read. I never really was a big fan of reading before this project, but now after reading a little everyday and writing about  it, it makes me want to read more and get into longer books. I felt like I was able to read 10 pages any time of the day even if I had a busy day. I feel like writing the summary I always had new things I wanted ti write about because this project made me understand the book better and appreciate reading more. I really enjoyed this whole project and I am surprised on how fast it went by.

Part 2

“Tell me again, why are we here?” Johnny whispered angrily, clenching his teeth as he leaned into you and pulled you closer by your waist. You could feel the warmth of his hand through the light flowery summer dress you wore.

Giggling softly you turned your head to look at him, his brown eyes having gone darker by the second. You placed your hand on his cheek and lightly stroked along his jaw, knowing that your new ‘neighbors’ were watching you both like hawks.

Once you finally had convinced your partner to be part of the undercover mission, you had reported back to Ben Harp. He was elated to say the least, fearing that the guy he needed on this case would fuck up and go after Bodhi. You had told him about the background for the two of you, Johnny and you just moved from North Arlington, Ohio to Los Angeles for work, you as First Grade teacher and Utah as software engineer. Alvarez and Babbit had looked at you like you were crazy, but it was the only thing you could come up with this fast.

So, now here you were, enjoying a warm summer night in your neighbors backyard as a Welcoming party for the both of you. Sheryl, the wife of Frank Martin was an artist, working from home so she could be there for their two children Hanna and Luis while her husband worked at a lawyer’s office. Then there was Susan and Henry Ford, both doctors at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, they hadn’t been blessed with one of their own, so they tried to give other little patients a better life and help for their illnesses. And last but not least Michael Angelo, investment broker and his wife Claire, real estate agent. Both looked suspicious, always watching your every move and whispering among each other.

“We’re here because Sheryl was nice enough to invite us for the barbecue and we wanted to do the same.” you gave him a look, telling him to shut up and not be suspicious.

Sheryl and Susan came over, bearing drinks and food from the barbecue grill. “The two of you are so sweet, how long have you been married?”

Johnny chocked on the beer he had just sipped from, causing your eyes to widen and softly hit his back, hoping he would be all right and not chock to death. Susan hurried over and helped him, too, making Johnny sit down on one of the deck chairs. “Oh, hun, you okay?”

“Y-Yeah, sorry.” He mumbled and shot you a look. Clearing his throat, Johnny held out his arm for you to come to him. You obliged, taking his hand in yours and played the dotting girlfriend. “Actually, we’re not married yet.” he admitted, sharing a look with you.

“We just moved to LA and Johnny started working at the company, so far we haven’t thought about weddings.” you explained, patting his knee as you sat next to him on the chair.

With a smile the two women nodded their heads, looking at their husbands conversing and Sheryl’s kids running around. “You’re still young, take your time. I married Frank when I was twenty and had those two rascals, but sometimes I think about what life would be if we had taken more time for us.”

You looked at the mother of two and smiled, “We’ll take our time and enjoy it, besides Johnny hasn’t asked me yet.”

All four of you laughed out loud and Johnny send you a look, thankful that the evening was working out in your favor. Michael and his wife keeping their distance, but you’d get to the bottom of it.

You had just gotten out of the bathroom as Johnny pulled his shorts up. Both of you agreed to keep it as real as possible, down to sleeping in the same bed because you didn’t know if Michael was watching you in the house, too.

But seeing his bare backside made your insides flutter. You weren’t naive and as far as you knew Johnny still had Tyler Ann, but there was something there that attracted you to him though you couldn’t put your finger on it.

“You okay over there?” Johnny pulled you out of your thoughts, sitting on his side of the bed looking at you with concern.

Nodding your head, you pulled the top of your silk pajamas down and walked over to the bed. Pushing the covers down, you laid back on the pillows trying to keep to your side and Johnny pushed the covers under his butt, making sure he was sticking to his side, something you had both agreed on before going on the mission.

“Are you sure, you’re okay, Y/N?” he inquired again, turning his head to you. “You’re so silent all of a sudden.”

You turned to him, a soft smile on your face. “I’m fine, just hoping this mission is going to go well.” The evening had gone great, you both had gotten some intel about the neighborhood and the daily routine of your new 'friends’.

“We did good and convinced the other’s. I talked to Michael and he’s been quite open about his job, talking about the men that come to him, wanting more and more money. He’s been quite specific.”

A soft sigh escaped your lips as you turned on your side. “You think so?”

Johnny put his arms under his head, looking up at the ceiling where the lights from the street reflected, before he send you another smile, his brown eyes shining despite the darkness. “Sure do, you made sure of that. I think Sheryl and Susan are already planing for when I finally 'ask’ you.” he said putting his hand back down, grabbing yours and stroking the back of it.

At first it felt nice. Intimate.

You felt like you were living in a dream, rather than the reality. Johnny only had eyes for you, no one else. But then you suddenly remembered Tyler Ann. Utah never mentioned, that they weren’t together anymore and you wouldn’t be the reason for them to break up if they didn’t want to. Pulling your hand back you looked at Johnny and turned around, mumbling a 'Good Night’ to him before closing your eyes.

You never saw the hurt look taking over his brown eyes as you moved away from him.

hello, hi, i’m axel and i’ve been sitting on this vague idea of a boy for like 6 weeks but couldn’t find a good fc until i finally watched american vandal like mack has been telling me to for idk how long. i’m your new resident all time low and state champs trash and i i ignored a notification for an atl twitch stream to write this app and intro so please appreciate me

van largely grew up on the road — in the back of an rv almost as old as him. never with a particular destination in mind and stopping whenever he or one of his parents found somewhere on the map that sounded interesting. his parents are both survivalists, though his mother also had some medical training. they were both in the business. or they had been, more accurately.  van coming along had been something of a surprise ( ironically enough, for two people who are always prepared for everything ), and he made them realize that they didn't want to raise a child in the midst of everything their jobs entailed. they didn't quit, exactly. the nature of their specialties allowed them to travel around. stay in one place for a few weeks, sometimes a few months, for a job and then move on to the next one. van was in middle school, doing school online, when they finally filled him in. there were a few reasons for this, one of them being that it didn't feel fair to leave him in the dark. another was that as much as they didn't want him to get into the business, he showed promise.  he'd been taught survival skills his whole life and had taken to everything quickly and easily, but now he was teaching himself new skills all on his own. reading every book on engineering he could get his hands on and watching hours of lectures on youtube about people who built prototypes and solved problems with almost nothing at their disposal. his parents still wouldn't tell him about the schools he could go to, however. one step at a time. in the end, they let his acceptance letter do the explaining for them, and left the decision to go entirely up to him. it wasn't even a question in van's mind, but for his parents' sake he took a couple of days to tell them his decision.

gallagher has definitely been an adjustment. the rules and structure are things he'd never had before, and he still struggles with feeling confined from time to time. but he understands why the rules exist, and besides, there's usually enough going on to keep him distracted from any feelings of being a hamster in a cage.

and now for some miscellaneous information than you may or may not care to know:

he’s a leap year baby and takes every opportunity he’s given to remind everyone around him that he’s technically only five years old

even before starting school he was one of those people who carries around a mini emergency preparedness kit. you will not catch this man dead without at least one.

he was one of those kids who liked to take things apart and put them back together, for sure

maybe in part because of that he’s good at “fixing” things. i say “fix” because a lot of the time what he’s doing is more forcing things to function by sheer willpower alone than actually solving the problem, but lets be real thats probably more useful in the real world anyway

idk why i made his favorite dish something i can’t even eat, but i saw a picture of a grilled cheese with mac and cheese as the cheese and it really just feels like a van thing, he likes garbage food like that

i make it sound like he’s a natural engineer or something in his real bio but i promise you he is not, you do not know how many times he almost blew up the rv as a kid, he’s just too stubborn to be discouraged and doesn’t accept failure as an option

Tony put a mark on his back.

Erik spent the rest of the morning orientation in the Stark Industries offices feeling like a target. He wasn't trying to be like Tupac with all eyes on him, but that's what happened after the Big Boss put him on blast.

The interns were divided up into groups of twenty and given a physical tour of the headquarters. He was separated from Giselle and Curtis and herded along with his group to visit the on-site cafeteria first. From jump, he was inundated with questions from the other interns as they walked from tour site to tour site, and he was already mentally drained by the time they broke for lunch. They were not allowed to eat in the cafeteria just yet and were given meal cards that could be used outside of the building where a plethora of restaurants and fast food places were within walking distance in downtown Los Angeles.

On an elevator, a cute Filipino girl with honey-brown skin stuck close to him asking about what he would study at M.I.T.

"Bioacoustics," he said, keeping his eyes on the lights of the elevator floors they were cruising past. Eighty floors. Stark's was the tallest building in Los Angeles, beating out the U.S. Bank Tower by seven floors.

"Interesting," the woman said.

Erik peeped her name tag. Maria Alvarez. Spanish colonized name, Filipino-American roots.

"What's interesting about it?" he threw back out her.

He could feel the ten other interns on the elevator with them eavesdropping on them. All white guys except for three other white women and a Nepalese woman who attended Oxford. He only knew this because she was bragging about it every chance she got when she was near him.

Bitch, no one cares…

Erik's eyes went back down to Maria. Pixie haircut. Heart-shaped face. Eager brown eyes that twinkled. A people pleaser vibe wafted off of her.

"Just interesting. I've never met anyone who studied that before. What made you choose that?"

The elevator doors opened. Thank God.

The interns surged out into a larger sea of interns gathered in the lobby and heading out to have a meal. They were given ninety minutes for lunch. Time to walk, find a spot, eat, socialize, digest, and have time to walk back.

"Erik!"

Giselle was waving at him and he was happy to see her. He felt Maria sticking to his side as he maneuvered through the throng of people to get to a familiar face.

"Hi," Giselle said looking at Maria hovering near him.

"Hi, Maria," she said pointing to her name tag.

"Giselle," Giselle said pointing to hers.

"Can I hang out with you guys? I feel very overwhelmed and don't do well by myself," Maria said clutching her handbag.

"Sure. What are you guys up for? The Stark App listed about twenty spots ten minutes from here," Giselle said.

"Five Guys Burgers—"

"Phở-," Maria said.

"Hold up, how you gonna invite yourself to eat with us?" Erik said glaring at Maria.

"Who said I was eating with you? Maybe I'm going with Maria," Giselle protested.

Maria smirked and Erik stared at Giselle.

"You called me over here," he said feeling perturbed that they were still standing in the thick of the crowd.

"Yeah, to say hi and ask how the tour was for you," Giselle said, "Phở sounds great, Maria."

Maria held up her micro cell.

"Five-minute walk from here," she said.

"Cool. So, would you like to join us, Erik?"

Giselle's lips had a pouty curve to them and Erik found himself staring at them and wondering some things he shouldn't.

"There's a burger place right in the same food court," Maria said holding her cell up to him.

Erik glanced around looking for Curtis or anyone else that may have a taste for red meat. The interns were filing out of the building like rats jumping ship. It was best to make a power move before there were long lines for food.

"Let's go," Erik said stalking past the two women and leading them toward the exits.

Outside, the Los Angeles smog kept the heat hanging down low and Erik was ready to climb out of his suit and hit the hotel pool.

"Did you guys hear what went down earlier?"

Erik was glad to hear Curtis' excited voice swooping down on them as he walked over with a white guy who had a jubilant smile on his face when he saw Erik.

Erik and Curtis shared some dap and he gave a head nod to the white guy named Owen from his nametag.

"Five interns got cut already—" Curtis said.

"Cut?" Giselle asked.

"Yeah. They were pulled aside right after we left Stark—"

"I was near them when they were removed," Owen said.

"Hey, this is my roommate Owen," Curtis said, "tell them the rest dude."

Owen's hands went out like he was telling a scary story around a campfire, his sandy-brown hair slicked into stylish professional spikes and tapered around the sides. A Malibu Ken if Erik ever saw one.

"Check this, we were finishing the last of the group divides and none of these guys were placed with anyone. They're standing around looking confused like they missed their names being called or something, but then this huge guy shows up, um, Hogan, that was his name, and he pulls these guys away and takes their intern badges away from them. They are escorted by security out of the room. It was crazy."

"But why were they kicked out? Were they told right there?" Maria asked Owen.

"No. Everyone is pretty nervous about it. What if Mr. Stark is doing a ten little Indians thing—"

"That's racist dude," Erik said.

The tone in his voice made Owen tight-lipped.

"Racist? How is that racist? It's just an expression-" Owen said perplexed.

"And it's still racist. Like Indian-Giver. Spirit Animal-?

"Dude, how is Spirit animal—"

"You not Native, so you don't use it," Erik said stepping closer to Owen to punctuate his point.

"You Native or something?"

"Got Native family, so I don't let shit slide—"

"Please, can we save the PC talk for later. Finish about the guys being kicked out," Maria said, her face pinched like she was scared to lose her place among the interns too.

"That's all we know so far," Curtis said.

"Let's go get some food. Maybe we can find some people who can give us more details," Giselle said. Erik could see the worry on her face too.

They all walked to a stoplight at a one-way street surrounded by the mass of interns chattering away and laughing.

"Damn!" Curtis shouted as a chrome and black Lagonda Vision pulled up in front of them. The driver's side dark tinted window rolled down, the beginning of Al Green's "Love and Happiness" blasting out from inside the vehicle.

Tony Stark glanced over at them, dark shades gleaming.

"Stevens, get in," Tony said.

Erik closed his eyes for a second and once again felt the tension of being singled-out from the group. Curtis nudged Erik to move forward.

"If you don't get in that whip," Curtis whispered to him from between gritted teeth.

Erik made the walk around the front of the car to the passenger side. It felt like it took him twenty years to make it inside the ride because all the eyes that watched him made his stomach churn again. He opened the door and climbed in. Tony barely waited for him to close the door before he had his foot on the gas and the deep rumble of the ultra-luxury car sped them away from the plebeians.

"We're having lunch at Durangos," Tony said, turning down his music.

"Why you put me out like this?" Erik said, annoyed as he watched Tony speed through downtown L.A.

"Put you out?'

"Yeah. How am I supposed to fit in if you keep separating me from the pack? Shits not cool, bruh."

"You speak to adults like that with that potty mouth, kiddo?"

Erik curled his lips and glanced out of the passenger window.

"I singled you out because I needed to let the other interns know that I won't tolerate disrespect or racist behavior—"

"Racist behavior?"

"I had five interns dismissed because of you."

"What did I do?"

Erik's eyes glared at Tony hard. Tony pushed his dark glasses to the top of his head.

"You did nothing but be brilliant. And word got to me from last night that there were some young men making comments about you and some other interns who are not my hue. Calling you all forced diversity quota recruits, a minority pity party to make myself look good. I don't accept that type of bullshit in my world—"

"Language," Erik said giving Tony a sly look.

Tony glanced over at him as they idled at a red light.

"I put your picture and your stats out there to let any other privileged asshats know that you set the standard. That way any other little punk with that hate in their heart would know that they need to get their act together and that they are not the only talent out there. Capiche?"

"I hear ya," Erik said focusing his eyes back toward the windshield.

"You have your big boy pants on. You can handle the scrutiny."

"But why not let me have lunch with everyone else?"

"Because you're not like everyone else and they need to know that. Chill. I know what I'm doing."

"I hope so. Will you replace the guys you dumped?"

"Maybe. But it's good to let the others stew. Tighten up the ship a bit. It forces people to reevaluate how they arrived here."

"Are you going to tell the others why?"

"They'll figure it out. The grapevine is on fire as we speak."

"Good looking out then."

"I have a reputation too, not always the best in the public, but the last thing anyone can accuse me of is being a racist or grooming them. I can be an asshole, but I'm an asshole to everyone from every walk of life."

Tony zipped the car into a valet carport.

"You like lobster?" Tony asked.

"Who doesn't?"

"People with allergies to shellfish. Keep up Stevens, what's wrong with you?" Tony said winking.

Erik stepped out of the car.

"Welcome back Mr. Stark," a thin Black valet said taking Tony's keys.

"Hello, Marlon. This is Erik. Get used to seeing his face."

"Yes, Sir," Marlon said jumping into Tony's car and whipping it away down the street.

"Yeah, I need to talk to him about that speeding," Tony said watching his car disappear.

Erik followed Tony into Durangos and the hostess at the door lead Tony right away to a private seat in the back.

Tony immediately reached for the wine and spirits menu.

"You drink?" he asked Erik.

"I'm nineteen."

"I didn't ask for your age, I asked if you drank."

"I could go for some Henny," Erik said reaching for the other drink menu.

Tony slapped his hand.

"What's wrong with you? You’re underaged young man. Shameful!"

"You got jokes," Erik said leaving the drink menu alone.

"I'll get you a Shirley Temple. More your speed—"

"Tony!"

"And here we go…" Tony said slipping his drink menu in front of Erik's place setting.

A severe-looking slender blonde with sharp features and a nasal-sounding voice stomped over to Tony's table.

"You are so predictable," the woman said as a scowl spread on her face.

"Hey Pepper. Have you met Erik? Erik this is my assistant, Pepper Potts."

Erik allowed his eyes to flick back and forth between them.

"W'sup Pepper?" Erik said.
