Time for a series of depressing thing
Cuz I'm in a depression type mood and the only thing that keeps repeating in my mind is: "I don't care if I'm squandering my potential. I'll waste it as long as you think I would be better off doing some job for you instead." Which may take on a *lot* of interpretations depending on the current situation [reality] but doesn't mean any of them, in my mind at least.
Any; Ob1-Kenobi died a *long* time ago...
There's a long history on the debate of the name OB1. It's a fairly unique name as far as the series goes despite its iconic presence.
To which a very specific eader would say "wan. Obi-Wan" like the dog[inu] *wan wan*

I suddenly understand the joke about VTUbers asking for [Wan] dressed up as a dog.

I don't think there's actually a lot of real lore on the subject tho; I think that most of the creative teams thought it would be better as something left to interpretation maybe.
There's a theory in the dark webs... How Qui-Gon, despite looking like a falsified record, actually did set-up the cloning program which prefaced the ensuing wars themselves.
What this would show, from another perspective; that we don't get to see from our protagonists perspective: is the Jedi Council actually setting up military forces for the specific reason of going to war with the Republic in the first place.

careful how you interpret [with] here. It could be in the same side as the Republic before it became the empire; you dun know.

And [OB1]s genetic lineage would be the only evidence of the truth behind the clone factory.
And here's the twist; What happened in the volcano?
Anakin is wracked with guilt and angst and confusion at how his previous mentors despite their messages of hope, peace, and love, would cause such trauma for the both of them.
"I have the High-Ground Anakin"
"You don't know what my intentions here are Obi."
The scene that we see at the end isn't OB1 pulling himself to safety or anything else.
It was a Kamikaze attack on OBi. Anakin couldn't live without the one person that he had a two-way emotional connection, AND being responsible for the deaths of so many when he shouldn't have had to.
Obi didn't make it out of the Volcano either.
"Darth Vader Killed... Your... father." [Me]
We see supporting evidence all over [a new hope]; Old Ben doesn't touch anything, he doesn't interact with anything, he doesn't do *anything* without first influencing *his* Padawan. Which sometimes can be Han Solo, Chewbacca, Droids, and even Leia.
But something about seeing Ben as a Force Ghost [The entire time] changes how you interpret Luke's and Kenobi's relationship.
This might be why R2 got the [bleep] treatment. So he wasn't dropping spoilers everywhere.
"R2, it's me, Ben; voice recognized; physical presence not recorded."
"God dammit R2; still don't... Oh thanks Luke; take a look at the thing R2 won't shut up about.
Pada-wan. Hmmm.
The way Like Treats his mentor for the whole first movie, like an unruly teenager; covers up the fact that Luke cannot perceive Obi-wan clearly.
The bar patrons cannot perceive Obi-wan clearly. I think it's possible that's what started the brawl. It's not like Luke hadn't been there before.
And even then Han Solo; doesn't trust Luke at all. The entire time he is *negotiating* a spaceship ride it's through Luke, despite Obi-wan holding the quest marker.
"hey Vader,
"Ben.
"if you strike me down now I'll become more powerful than you could ever know.
*this mother fucker [already] ghosted meâ˝ What a fucking magnificent Dick leaving me with this mess.*
What did Vader See where Obi Wan was standing? Even through his armor you can tell he was phased as if he was literally looking, and fighting, a ghost.
"But how did Obi touch things when he *did*?"
With the force and through force projection.
He can pull all sorts of levers with the force, though I confess that I know not why he had to splinter-cell his way to the core.
And Vader is poking at a bunch of lifeless robes with a stick; you can tell as our protagonists leave; they have no idea why they're in this conflict, they have no idea how they're going to fight this mess or even if they are; and as they fly away after they destroy the first Death Star. [Except Vader who was definitely working with Obi despite the animosity]
Our protagonists have all but forgotten the old wizrobe. Who only ever appears subsequently to Luke when he is in deep need; or Obi-wan needs some favor done.
My depressed mood comes from an air of claustrophobia around me. As far as I know, before I was cut off from society; it appeared as if everyone I know and or cared about was taken from me. Or left. Or blocked or blacklisted me. Or just straight up started ignoring me more than they usually do.
As if a million voices were all silenced in the same instance. But only from my side. And probably not obliteration... Probably.

For the ask game
Besides JJ, #6. What characters captured your heart?/What character(s) beside JJ do you enjoy writing and why?
I love exploring JJ's dynamics with other characters, but it's actually Shoupe that I like, after JJ, and I really wished that we had some exploration between Mike and JJ too. I'd love to hear who you enjoy writing, both in relation to their dynamics with JJ, and also as a character by themselves.
Oh wow, that's a question, isn't it!
I think, to start, yeah -- I like ALL characters with JJ. I am aware, at the core of things, I am essentially writing the same basic trope over and over again. So one way to vary it up is to pair JJ with different characters or character groupings, which allows the responses and revelations to be unique and distinctive. It's like an unending process of validating JJ through a long list of POVs.
Also, I just enjoy different voices. When I write a POV, I have that character in my head. It's a writing exercise, of sorts, to attempt capturing that voice. Pope, for example, has a dramatically different narrative feel than Kiara. So I tend to like to try out all the characters -- even ones I'm not super interested in like Rafe -- just because I like the challenge of getting into their head and seeing if I can do it.
However, which one is my favorite? Which character am I drawn to the most?
I think I probably write John B the most, even more than I write JJ POVs -- but I honestly think that's more to do with his closeness to JJ more than John B himself. I mean, there are some things I really love about JB, don't get me wrong. But it is uniquely the way he knows JJ better than anyone -- how he gets JJ things -- that appeals to me.
A POV that surprised me was Kiara, which I invested into heavily when I started Best of a Bad Deal. With that fic, when I knew it was going to be a Kie POV, I started panicking because I didn't want to fall into this trope of just having the fic be all about JJ. I needed it to be HER story as well, so I started adding in a lot of content for her own character arcs and etc. I haven't finish Book Three yet, where a lot of that comes to fruition, but I really enjoyed that -- and I really enjoyed Kie. Prior to the last half of S4, I loved how Kiara seemed to understand and get JJ. Like, her patience with his antics in part 1 was so reassuring, and how she was gentle in her ribbing him on no official dates -- that was such a beautiful dynamic, how she wanted to support him and encourage him -- without making him feel bad or lesser. Whatever happened in part 2 was just OOC and mostly bad writing in my mind.
I guess I could say that I enjoy writing Luke, even if I mean I'm not a FAN of Luke. I think Luke is complicated and I think it's easy to reduce him to some one-dimensional villain, but the problematic relationship he has with JJ is compelling. I very much like exploring it, even if I wouldn't say Luke has captured my heart. He's on my mind, though.
I also really love a Shoupe POV. There's something about going outside of the Pogues, to an adult -- where you really get a better understanding of them. Surely, part of it is the fact that I am much older than the Pogues in real life, so I can relate to some of those frustrated adult POVs where you want to shake these kids for being so damn stupid. And Shoupe -- I think the show gave him just enough content where you see sort of who he wants to be and how he wants to do more -- and how it's not quite enough and the kids never quite trust him.
There's a reason I have a whole series of Shoupe fics plotted compared the other adult characters. I wrote a Mike fic I like a lot, and I do have a few other fic ideas around Mike -- but it's Shoupe who provides the more supportive backdrop. If JJ hadn't died, I think we would have seen more of it play out. It may play out for the rest of the Pogues, but I don't care as I'm not watching.
I think that answers the question but not very definitively, lol. I like all the other characters as well, but they definitely don't have the same narrative draw for me. I will write occasionally from Pope's POV and very rarely from Sarah's -- but it's just not quite the same as JB or Kiara. Shoupe is probably the tertiary character I've invested the most into. I gave him a backstory in a fic I haven't finished and a whole development of his relationship with JJ in particular that I would like to see come to fruition someday.

hi i see all your points and they're all valid but i disagree with some of them but also agree with some (regardless of how much i agree with them though your points all absolutely have an undeniable foundation)
disclaimer i haven't watched the show or read the books in a while
1) the pacing was ABSOLUTELY off. nowadays companies don't want to 'waste' money on anything that could be filler episodes, but those filler episodes are crucial to us getting to know a character both under times of extreme stress, but also maybe some more relaxed moments (as relaxed as a quest to get back your dead mom back can be at least)
each chapter in the books had something unique to it. when you mash them up into that few episodes, it gets loud and muddled. stuff happening ALL the time tired a viewer out. it also makes them so focused on the big plot points that they don't get the chance to notice the finer details, thus removing the ability for good world building via show not tell. you're right, everything feels too explicitly given to us. we're supposed to be learning the world with the characters! it's part of the struggle. but instead their struggles and characters are undermined by making it too easy
2) i actually don't think percy trusted poseidon at ALL at that point. they've had no contact until that point, but the fact that poseidon was his father alone got sally killed. percy resents him for that, and for not once showing up throughout his childhood years. i like the fall rather than the jump because it shows an apprehension to trust him (which is a large part of his character! he doesn't trust authority figures right away! not after all his shit teachers! not after gabe!) and a pleasant surprise that poseidon is actually so strongly advocating for percy
i like percy as a parallel to luke. angry at the gods and their treatment of their kids, and of opinion that things need to CHANGE. because that's part of what makes him fighting against the titans so significant. he's not fighting AGAINST the gods, he's fighting **for the demigods**. that requires him to fight for the lesser evil
i also like percy and annabeth as a sort of foil. annabeth had a terrible experience with her mortal family, so she turns to her godly side. and they've been there for her since a very young age!
percy meanwhile has had only good experiences with his mom. the problem is that those good experiences are ONLY with his mom. it's them two against the world to him at first. they're both suffering gabe's abuse, and his dad, who's supposed to be a god with insane powers, just lets it happen? the sally dies because of her association with poseidon. percy's angry at him for not protecting her.
3)
a) GROVER I LOVE YOU. you're supposed seem lowkey pathetic at first BUT THEN PROVE YOURSELF. my shayla đĽşđ
sorry anyways
b) we never got to see annabeth prove how smart she was! we never got to see her just be a normal annoying 12 year old! we never got to see her just be a softie! or a kid!
and i cannot express how much i agree with what you say about her being there at luke's fight. her realization that he can't be saved... doesn't really happen until the very end for her. why is happening here?
however, i think that her crush on him can be nuanced. i don't care for the crush one way or another. i think it works with or without. an infatuation with an older brother figure makes sense! i'm not a younger sibling so i don't know it first hand, but my little sister adored me and would follow my every word or action without question. i like that representation of luke and annabeth's relationship because i adore familial ones. but kids getting 'crushes' on people they look up too also makes sense i think. i'm aroace tho so. take that with a grain of salt lmao bc idk how that works
c) abuse is abuse, and none should be "better/worse than the other." BUT. different types of abuse lead to different trauma responses. that changes their character. what i'm trying to say is that i agree with you lol
d) i think that it was reasonable for sally to get frustrated in difficult moments. i think the issue they had was they lacked any moments that showed her true character. we only see her worst moments, not her best. based on pattern recognition alone, she does come off as a bad mother. badly treating percy, badly treating percy, oh the museum scene is cute! badly treating percy... you see how that reads
you're also right about how it was too much for her character. even in her frustration, i find it hard to believe she would treat her child that way. you could of course argue that percy sees her through a lense because she's the only thing he has (and he routinely has to deal with gabe) but routinely throughout the books she is shown to be a great mother, even with any possible lense removed. it's jsut. bad writing
okay i'm done
please don't think any of this is disrespecting your opinion!! i think your opinions are all valid even if im technically disagreeing with them. i'm just sharing my own thoughts :)
UNPOPULAR (?) OPINION
(pls don't attack me for this đđ)
THE PERCY JACKSON SERIES WAS A PISS POOR ADAPTATION!!!
I would like to start by saying absolutely no hate on the actors!! They were perfect for their roles <3
I'm not just gonna be complaining the whole time, there were some things I did like and I do mention them as well.
1) the pacing was all off. I get that they only had 8 episodes to cram all that info and action into, but it really was WAYY too fast paced. The fight scenes didn't feel like fight scenes coz they were over in seconds, and just a lot of the info you're supposed to find out gradually or just know from context clues is outright said instead of shown and spaced out.
Also, just some of the dialogue was really cluncky and weird/unnecessary and made it very awkward to watch at times.
And then the only two long fight scenes dragged on and ended in ways that just completely disregarded a major character moment. Which leads me to no. 2
2) The arch scene. I actually really liked how they changed it to a shrine of Athena's in the show, it really showed how much Annabeth trusted her mother, and when Echidna was able to pass through anyway, the betrayal was a nice touch which really showed how much trouble they were really in.
HOWEVER!!! What I DIDN'T like, was that last fight scene with Echidna and the Chimera, which actually really upsets me coz it was our first decently lengthed fight scene. I didn't mind the fight overall, but the ending was a cop-out.
The scene in the book where he jumps out of the arch is supposed to show how much trust/faith he has in the gods and his father. He trusts that Poseidon will catch him. And yes, ik, Uncle Rick "thought it was closer" and didn't realise the river didn't go directly under the arch, but surely the fact that it wasn't closer holds that much more weight if he had jumped?
3) They completely butchered Grover, Annabeth, Sally and Gabe's characters.
Grover is supposed to be this scared but BRAVE and LOYAL satyr who loves nature and whose entire purpose is to PROTECT young demigods and find Pan (the god of the wild).
Instead, we get this guy who rats out his friend for doing something he didn't even do, AGREES WITH ARES about fucking WAR of all things (I get it was a ploy to get information but I'm still not really vibing coz it was just so out of character), and WAITS OUTSIDE till the fight is finished before running in and asking if it was over yet. And if all that wasn't bad enough, they've turned him into the exposition guy. Uncle Rick, does show don't tell mean nothing to you?? He deserved a lot better than what he got.
Annabeth in the books had so much depth and character dimension; she wanted to break free from her stereotypes (dumb blonde, girls can't fight/are weak etc); she had a lot of faith in the gods (especially her mother - I'm really glad this was shown in the show); she wanted a way to prove herself to the gods.
Instead her character is moulded down into a singular trait. 'Mean'. I personally think it's a step up from her movie counterpart's singular trait of 'girl', but they could also just do her one better and give her an actually fully fleshed out personality.
I understand that, due to her appearance, they obviously can't do the whole dumb blonde thing (which I really don't mind), but they could throw in some struggles about her race and the 'girls are weak' thing too. Obviously they'd have to be careful to handle it respectfully but it's definitely doable. Like, there are so many thing they can do with her character and all they did was make her mean.
I would have liked it to have been more obvious that she wanted to prove herself to the gods, because it's such a big reason why she chose to be part of the quest. Like, the bathroom scene should've made it more obvious that she was scoping him out to see if he was the leader of the quest she was prophesied to be in, instead of that stupid janky line about capture the flag.
I did, however, like that they got rid of her little crush on Luke, because the fandom ruined their sibling relationship because of that. (I can already see the arguments THATS gonna bring up lol). I interpreted her little crush on Luke as something similar to like when you'd have a teacher crush on primary school. A silly little crush because "they're pretty and were nice to me" kinda vibes. A platonic crush if you will ?
ANYWAYS, I'm glad they fixed that up, but I really would've liked to see her and Luke act more like siblings before he left. Like, half the confusion the first time round was coz we didn't get any proper sibling moments before (or after really) Percy came to the conclusion that Annabeth liked Luke. It just would've been a nice touch.
I also really didn't like the fight with Luke at the end (they changed WAYYYY too much) but the thing I dislike the most was that Annabeth was there. She wasn't supposed to be there. Half her struggle through the rest of the books was that she couldn't come to terms with the fact that Luke was on the Titan's side, and tried to hurt/kill them multiple times when they got in his way. It's supposed to be a slow process for her, but having her there would (realistically) speed up that process, and undermine her feelings and struggles from the books.
On another note, I didn't like how they dealt with Cerberus. It felt so unfeeling, when it was supposed to be a more emotional interaction. Annabeth loves dogs, and that was supposed to be one of the moments you learn more about her. It was supposed to be sad when they parted, but instead it was more of a "that thing is going to kill us, we need to get the fuck outta here" kind of situation.
One last thing for Annabeth coz this is getting long. The Fields of Asphodel scene was rubbish. If there had to be one of them stuck there, it should've been Grover. I truly believe he'd have the most regrets out of the three (eg. Thalia dying under his care, losing the teleportation pearl, trusting Luke, regret for ratting Percy out perhaps? Etc). But realistically they all would've planned roots. They each have regrets weighing them down. Anyways, I just thought it was stupid
Gabe is meant to be the absolute worst. He's meant to be an abusive asshole who couldn't give two shits about Sally and Percy. He's meant to be demanding and messy.
Instead we get this somewhat likeable guy whose worst crime is sitting in his chair for hours at a time. We're supposed to hate this guy, so why am I finding him kinda funny? Like yes, he's still kind of a dick, but he's not so irredeemable as he once was, and this version of him DEFINITELY doesn't deserve to be turned into a statue đđ
Like, miss ma'am, just divorce him, move out, turning him into a statue was so unnecessary in the show đđ
And I hate to say it, but the movies actually got him right.
And that leads me into Sally's character. In the books she's this brilliant woman with a heart of gold who loves her son more than anything. She married an abuser to protect her son from worse things, so he could grow up with a relatively normal childhood without fear of being hunted by monsters 24/7.
She's supposed to be a bit timid, a bit scared of Gabe because HES AN ABUSER. Sally isn't supposed to have her girlbossness yet! She hasn't gotten to the point where she can leave him (both because she's staying to protect Percy, and also because after being with someone like that for a prolonged period of time, it starts to get to you)
Side note - she's also not supposed to keep contact with Poseidon?? It kinda defeats the purpose of keeping Percy underwraps?? (I'm talking about that one flashback in the diner, it doesn't really make sense)
ANYWAYS!! Instead of some quality character development/growth, we get a character who unrealistically doesn't need it coz she isn't really a victim in the first place. They took away part of her character by taking away her trauma. The way that Sally and Gabe are portrayed really takes away from Sally, and the point that her character is at in the show doesn't make sense to her situation in the show's current timeline.
Also, the way Sally treats Percy in some of the flashbacks is fucking disgusting. THAT is NOT my Sally Jackson. My mother is emotionally/vocally abusive and neglectful, and that is exactly how she treats my neurodivergent younger brother. Maybe I'm projecting or looking into it too much, but seeing that in the show from one of my favourite characters in the books was so jarring, I almost started crying.
Because Sally is supposed to be the best mum, everyone loves her coz she's such a wonderful human being, and that's how she's been treating her son. It just makes me second guess how bad my own mum really is. Obviously everyone has their flaws, but getting angry and yelling at a child because he's scared/upset/doesn't want to do something has never been one of hers.
Alrighty, I'm gonna stop yabbering on coz I feel like this is WAYY too long, but I have a lotta thoughts and feelings about this coz PJO is my comfort fandom lol.
Please gimme any thoughts/opinions you like to share <33

Right everyone hold on to your feels, you will shortly be boarding Angst Express 101. Just look at this brilliant and angsty ask I'm speechless. Even the pairings you asked for are so unique and well thought this is a perfect angst concept. And I really hope I could do this justice. Thank you so much for this ask @saltypaperdestiny
So very sorry for the delay, this was the longest ask I've ever written and boy was I delighted. Though I have to admit I had to cry through some of them myself. This is PART 1. Rest of the brothers and the newly Dateables coming soon in part 2.
Who loved you first? Pt1
Lucifer : Simeon
It was time, he decided. After months of being in your presence, his prideful heart had melted enough to recognise his feelings for you. You were the only he'd truly humble down for, because the affection and care you displayed was unparalled.
"MC please get dressed in something nice. I'm taking you to Ristorante Six as a thank you for helping me with Cerebus and the council paperwork" He says to you, barely containing the excitement. He couldn't wait to see the look on your face when he confessed and how you'd blush when you kissed your knuckles and your cheek and wait - What is Simeon doing in your room at this hour?
He didn't want to interrupt, surely it might be nothing to bother about. He patiently waited outside until he heard what Simeon said.
Simeon: MC... You look beautiful, what's the occasion?
MC: Aw thank you Simeon. You're always so kind. It's nothing much, Lucifer is taking me out as a thank you.
Simeon: Oh do you have to leave right away...?
MC: Oh no no. It's okay I have some more time.
Simeon: Well I originally came here to invite you to try Luke's latest attempt at some new recipes but now there's something else I feel like I must tell you. *Blushes* Something I've been holding back for too long.
MC: *joking* Oh what have you been hiding from me, angel? Speak I beseech you!
Simeon: *laughing and then going solemn* MC... *Takes your hands in his* I love you. I love you with all my heart.
MC: ....me? You love..me? But I'm not nearly-
Simeon: You're the most beautiful soul I've ever met. You radiate kindness and forgiveness and everything pure, overcoming the seven biggest evils you reside with. How can I not love you? Tell me, MC, will you accept me as yours?
Lucifer had a half a mind to storm in and laugh in Simeon's face. What a failure this attempt was going to be. His pride grew inside him as he stifled a laugh. MC was his and only his and now he would take pleasure in watching Simeon learn that. Surely MC was going to turn him down nicely but still. He creeped closer to the door, looking through the open crack.
MC: *in tears* Oh Simeon, I love you too! I never thought an angel could ever love me back!
Simeon: *kisses her knuckles* So... It's a yes?!
MC: Yes yes yes! Oh of course it's a yes! *Hugs him tight* My guardian angel who protects me in the dark, oh how I love you.
Simeon: *laughing as he picks you up and spins you around* Oh how happy you've made me MC! I'm the happiest being alive!
MC: *kissing his cheek* So am I, Simeon. I love you with all my heart.
It took Lucifer all his strength to not collapse or go into a violent frenzy. He balled up his fists so tight, the gloves started tearing at the seams. He watched you smiling so gleefully in his arms, looking so radiant. When Simeon dipped his head down to kiss you, the moonlight poured in through the window as if blessing your union.
It was supposed to be him. If only he made it to your room sooner, it could have been him. Embracing all your beauty, being the cause of the shining smile. IT COULD HAVE BEEN HIM.
At his best
"Are you really that happy with him?" he asks you later that night. The blush on your cheeks and that cheeky smile says it all.
"Congratulations MC." You look so joyous even at the thought of Simeon, how could he ruin that?
His temper is worse, more unforgiving towards all his brothers. He has to bear with your absence in the house all day. The fact that he knows you're at Purgatory hall, sipping tea and arm in arm with him pains him to think.
You bring Simeon along to the council to help him too. He outright denies and asks both of you to leave.
He only ever feels calm to see you alone, but that is even rarer with his brothers around to hog his remaining time.
Eventually makes his peace with it, maybe you're better off with someone as pure as yourself than a demon like him.
At his worst
His wrath is back. It's almost bad enough to birth another Satan. His sense of entitlement is through the roof.
He snaps three weeks later when Simeon and you tell everyone about it and decide that you'll be moving to Purgatory hall soon. Everyone claps and rejoices while Lucifer, drunk off Demonus, crashes the fun.
"Simeon, you dirty cheat, pretending to be all pure with your white wings and devious smile. How dare you?!" He says in calm and deadly rage.
"Lucifer... what's wrong-" You approach him to ask. He looks at you and you see the little tears in the corners.
"MC WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MINE THAT NIGHT. MINE. NOT YOURS. THE ONLY BEING THAT CAME CLOSE ENOUGH TO STEAL MY HEART AND YOU TOOK HER AWAY FROM ME."
Lucifer was louder now, hysterically angry, throwing his glass on the floor. "AND I KNOW THEY WOULD HAVE PICKED ME IF I GOT TO THEM FIRST! I LOVED THEM TOO DAMNIT." Simeon stood in front of you to protect you from Lucifer's rage. You hid your face in your hands, breaking down in sobs. What is happening? Where did you go wrong?
"Look at them, Lucifer. Look. At. What. You've. Done. And don't tell you've forgotten how many times you've threatened their lives before." Simeon said, holding you tight as you cried into his chest. "How dare you still feel like you deserve them?"
Lucifer sees you broken down, clutching onto Simeon for dear life, crying. You were smiling just a minute ago what has he done? Simeon blocked off his view with his pearly white wings. A reminder of what Lucifer used to be and cannot be again.
Mammon: Asmodeus
You were his human. And he was your first demon. No one was more territorial about you than him. So he finally made up his mind to seal the deal. No more lying about his feelings. He was going to claim you, once and for all. He imagined you smiling and running your hands through his hair and kissing him returning his feelings.
"MC! I brought the movie of the day!" He barged into your room excited, but you were nowhere to be found. Where could you have gone? It was your movie night with him. You were supposed to be waiting for him inside. He asked his brothers and they said you were with Asmo. He stomped his way up to Asmo's room and called out your name. No response. Not till he peeked inside the dark washroom. You were holding Asmo who looked very unstable and weak, sitting at the side of the bath.
MC: Asmo why don't you listen to me when I tell you not to drink so much!?
Asmo: I'm sorry MC *hic* I needed it today...
MC: Why? What's so scary that you don't have the confidence to do sober?
Asmo: MC do you think I look beautiful?
MC: Of course Asmo, you always do.
Asmo: Even with my runny make up, red nose and swollen eyes and this horrible complexion?
MC: *grabs his face* You're always beautiful to me MC.
Asmo: I...I stopped sleeping around MC. I couldn't do it anymore. *tearing up* Because to them, I'm only beautiful with a perfect covered up face.
MC: Asmo...they're blind and shallow demons who don't know anything! I know you, and I know how much more beautiful you are inside out. Don't listen to them.
Asmo feeling insecure about his appearance? What a big fat lie. Is this his new ploy to get to you? How irritating. It's not going to work, Mammon knows you're smarter than that. The Avatar of Lust can manipulate in many ways. Surely his human was smart enough to see through that!
Asmo: MC, I knew you were the one only who truly loved me. And today, I found the one I love too. Much more than I love myself. So I needed a drink to tell you this.
MC: Asmo...
Asmo: *holding your face gently* MC you saw past this pretty face. You saw the things I do more than what I am. Or what I pretend to be. I know it's hard to believe coming from the Avatar of Lust... But MC, I truly really love you. *looks down and sobs* But you probably can't believe me right?
MC: Asmo. Look at me. *You run your fingers through his hair and he looks up with teary eyes* I believe you. And I've loved you too. You're the only one who never hurt me. The one who willingly made a pact with me. You've been so sweet to me since I came. How could I love anyone else?
Asmo: MC I want you all to myself. Will you be mine? Only mine? I swear I'll keep you happy always!
MC: Of course Asmo. I'll all yours. I'm your little human. *giggling and kissing his head*
Asmo: *grabs and kisses you* MC, if you want, I can be your actual first tonight.
Mammon fell to his knees. He wanted to barge in and scream. He wanted to wrestle Asmo to the ground. He wanted to break his face for saying the words that were special to him and you. But your response had him paralysed. You...accepted him. You agreed to be his.
Silent tears streamed down his face as he watched you embracing Asmo, peppering kisses all over his face, running your hands through his hair, laughing and frolicking in the water with him. The colored moonlight through the stained glass danced on their skin like a scene from his favourite movie.
At his best
He cries to himself for days. Spends as much time outside as he can.
Maybe he is an idiot for thinking he had a chance with him. How could he compete with Asmo's charms.
Maybe it hurt more because Asmo didn't even have to use his charms.
Only ever tries to talk to you if he's sure your alone. One time he barged into your room and caught you and Asmo tangled up together and it broke him all over again.
He watched as you twirled around in a new outfit Asmo bought. He scoffs. He could have bought it for you too.
You both look so cheerful and in love, he decides to accept it. For the sake of his little brother and the human he loves.
At his worst
Breaks down and lets his emotions out in the worst way possible. Too desperate to win you back somehow.
Asmo and you were just telling Solomon and Simeon about your relationship when Mammon barged in through the doors of Purgatory halls.
"MC look! Look what I got you!" He came in all ragged. He knelt down and pulled out a ring. "Take me instead! I was your first wasn't I MC? Don't let him take my place please!"
"Mammon no... No please don't be this way...I'm sorry..." You kneel down next to him as he screams and sobs like a child. You feel guilty. You caused this. You lead him on. You fight your own tears as you keep apologising.
Asmo yanks you up and wraps his arms around you, staring down angrily at Mammon. "Mammon, leave."
Mammon lunged at Asmo. "I was going to tell them. That night was our movie night. You stole that night from me. YOU STOLE MY CHANCE AND MY MC!"
Asmo mocked at him with a sardonic laugh. "You still assume MC is yours without even telling them. You kept lying about your feelings and hurting them in the process. And yet, when they finally look happy, you come and make them cry. You are a scumbag Mammon."
Mammon looked at your tear stained face, nestled inside Asmo's arms and wings. He really felt like nothing but a scumbag.
Leviathan : Belphegor
Levi fell in love with you since your first act of kindness. As a shut-in whose only conversations were with his own eccentric and dismissive brothers, you were an angel who had brought him the gift of true companionship. Honestly he was okay being your best friend, until the day he started craving more. So he decided it was time to tell you.
'MC come to my room! I have a new game to show you!' It was a virtual dating game where he was going to confess digitally. You always loved his creative ways of doing simple stuff after all. He decided to play your favourite game while waiting for you. He even left the door ajar. Now he wished he didn't.
Belphie: MC do you have a minute?
MC: Yeah I was just heading to Levi's room what's up?
Belphie: I think I fallen in love with you, MC.
MC: .... Huh?
Levi almost burst out laughing hearing Belphie's confession. What kind of a bland confession is that? How can someone say that so easily? No that was definitely a joke on MC or something. Surely MC wouldn't take this seriously.
Belphie: I had a dream just now. About you.
MC: Uh huh?
Belphie: In that dream, we were up in the sky, among the stars. And you looked so pretty glittering along with them all. So I kissed you impulsively. And you kissed me back.
MC: ...that's a sweet dream. *blushes*
Belphie: *takes your hand* I woke up and my first thougt was I wish that was real. And then I realised it can be.
MC: ...
Belphie: I want to be able to kiss you always. I want to be able to take you far away. I want all your time. I love you MC. Be mine.
MC: Belphie I-
Belphie: I know, how can you possibly love your own murderer...? *Sighs* I cannot undo what I did. I'm sorry MC. I can only swear that I won't ever let that happen again.
MC: *smiles and cups his face* You were locked away for 3 millenia I can imagine your endless anger and grief for your sister. I forgave you long ago.
Belphie: So does that mean you'll accept me?
MC: You're already mine, silly. And now I'm yours. You're the only one I can relax with in the whole realm.
Belphie: MC... Come here. *holds you close and kisses you*
Levi's game screen displayed the message "GAME OVER: You lose". Levi couldn't see it clearly. His vision was blurred by the tears brimming on his eyes. You and Belphie looked to distant shadows on the moon.
He blamed himself for even thinking he had a chance with you. But maybe just...maybe if he had gotten there before? He stared at the screen and then at his spare console that he had declared yours. He picked up it, and locked it inside. Probably won't be needing it anytime soon.
At his best
He barely comes out of his room anymore. He tries to return your smile at breakfast but then returns hurriedly, leaving Beel to finish most of his food.
"Are you sure you want to play games? Wouldn't you rather go up to the attic" He mutters under his breath sometimes and then says it's nothing when you ask him.
Pains him when he sees you curled with Belphie in random places, dozing off. Might cover you with a blanket. Just you though.
Spites Belphie. A lot of people have said they look and act alike. But somehow you like sleeping more than anime and gaming?
Just accepts it as his fate. Atleast he's still your best friend, right?
At his worst
He's called the Avatar of Envy for a reason. He can barely hold it in seeing the both of you together constantly.
Belphie you and Beel were having a jolly time watching a movie and eating snacks while Belphie slept curled up in your lap. Levi happened to walk in while you were rubbing Belphie's head soothingly.
For some reason, Levi couldn't hold it in anymore. "UGH YOU FUCKING NORMIES!" he screamed out of frustration.
Belphie woke up drowsily when you stopped at stared at Levi holding back tears in the doorway. "Levi..what's wrong.." you call out to him.
He barges in and pushes Belphie off you and grabs your hands, tears falling and him screaming. "Why do you care, MC?! I'm a just disgusting shut in otaku right?! But guess what even as that I do more than just sleep and drool all fucking day! AND MORE IMPORTANTLY ATLEAST IM NOT THE ONE WHO KILLED YOU! So why him? WHY NOT ME MC?!"
"Levi...no..." You plead with him to calm down, tearing up yourself. You should have known. You should have known this would happen.
Belphie violently pushed Levi off you and grabbed him by the collar. "You were the first one to attack MC in this house. And I'm sure you would have killed them if not for Lucifer. So stop pretending you're better than me, you ridiculous creep. A shut in like you is worthless. The only thing you're good at is making MC distressed."
Levi looked at you trying to pull Belphie back, tears streaming down your face and hung his head low. It was simply an Otome game and MC didn't choose him.
Satan: Solomon
Satan took his time to fall. With late night studying session, every cat cafe date, every trip to the museum - he fell more and more each time. To the point where he wanted to spend every waking moment with you. And he was ready to tell you.
For a whole week, he kept writing and scrapping the perfect love letter for you. Then he realised you were someone who preferred simple honesty. "MC please wait for me in the library I'll be there shortly." He'd said before he dashed out to bring a boquet of your favourite flowers and a book which reminded him of you. He'd almost made it to the library, he saw you waiting inside for him eagerly. That was until someone flew in through the window.
Solomon? What's he doing at this hour? Satan peeked in through the half open library door. He wanted to be alone with you so he'd wait till Solomon was gone. He shouldn't have waited.
MC: Solomon! You scared me silly!
Solomon: *laughing* Your face just now MC...so adorable! Like a scared kitten!
MC: You wooshed in through the window!
Solomon: Okay okay my bad. Now what are you doing in the library so late at night. I went to your room and couldn't find you.
MC: Oh Satan called me out here. Told me to wait for him. Maybe there's a new book he wants to read.
Solomon: Do you guys do that often? Reading books this late?
MC: Haha yeah usually we just read in my room or his at night, in case we fall asleep.
Solomon: *sigh* So unfair.
MC: What's unfair?
Solomon: You and I are the only humans here. Why did they put us in different houses? Shouldn't we... be together more often?
MC: Well logically yes we should. Just classes and magic lessons aren't enough! You should live here too!
Solomon: I doubt Lucifer would be okay with that. But well.. here's the real reason I'm here now. *brings out a little basket*
MC: That's...that's a kitten! Hi baby! What's her name!?
Solomon: MC.
MC: Yeah what?
Solomon: No I named the kitten MC. This way I get to call your name as much as I want haha. The silly things us humans do for love, huh?
Satan had a sick feeling in his stomach. Watching you and him sitting in the moonlight, surrounded by books, cuddling a kitten and confessing...that should be him. Him not Solomon. He didn't like where this was heading. But just like you can't help but stare at disaster - he couldn't look away. What was MC going to say...?
MC: Solomon... *blushes*
Solomon: Does my affection scare you? *reaches for your hand*
MC: Of course not...I.. *gets closer and intertwining your fingers together*
Solomon: Is this your way of showing-
MC: *blushes* Yes. I love you too.
Solomon: I believe I've lived for a 1000 years just to hear those words. *kisses you against the bookshelves*
MC: I believe you've gotten 1000 years worth of romantic lines stored away in that head of yours. *Laughs and kisses him back*
Solomon: Let's take this to the moon shall we?
Satan watched as he took you and kitten in his arms and flew out the window. Satan rushed in not wanting to lose sight of you, dropping the flowers and books. Balling his fists, he choked on his angry tears as he watched you both laughing and kissing against the bright light of the moon. He felt like his own happy ending was stolen from him.
When you disappeared from view, he let out a blood curdling scream, pulling at his own hair and knocking over the bookshelf against which Solomon kissed you. The wrath inside him made him thrashing around in pain, burning him inside out. The flowers he dropped, lay there next to his sobbing body, wilting in his pain.
At his best
He manages to put on his best fake smile and go about his day. Tries hard to hide his annoyance if you bring him up.
But you seem so happy and you often invite him to new cat cafes and shelters. So despite Solomon's presence, he feels calm because of you and the cats.
Is secretly happy you get to spend more time with him than Solomon. Takes advantage of that and hogs you all to himself while in the house
While he can't hold or kiss you the way the Solomon does, you're here next to him, reading his recommended books. That's enough to soothe his yearning heart.
At his worst
The war for love is on. He doesn't care if Solomon already won. He will still declare his love no matter what.
It started out as subtle, he did what he knew Solomon couldn't. Cooking MC's favourite dishes whenever it was his turn to cook.
Tries to subtly reinforce his intelligence over Solomon when you're around. What's 1000 years of knowledge worth, Satan has been there since the first millenia ever
But the day Solomon and you announced you'll be moving to Purgatory Hall, he charged at him, his demon form angry and glowing. "How dare you think you can take them away from us? You think you can win against us... against me? You may have taken my chance with them but I won't let you take them away! They belong here with me!"
You inched closer to Satan's form. You'd never seem him this angry. "Satan please calm down-" Satan wasn't listening. He let out a feral growl and attacked Solomon.
Solomon held MC by his side and made a protection shield Satan couldn't get through. You started crying, watching his wrath take over, he must be in so much pain.
Solomon felt you curl up against him in fear and guilt. Gritting his teeth, he grabbed Satan by the scruff of his neck, like you'd do with a misbehaving cat.
"You say you want to protect them and yet look what you did instead." Solomon said. Satan looked helplessly at you, crying with your face buried in your hands. Glancing at his horns in the mirror, he called out to you sadly, "MC..."
Solomon creeped closer and said in a deadly low voice. "You love fairy tales right Satan? Well in the story of Beauty and the Beast, they could only be together because the beast was actually a human." And Satan was far from being a human.
Asmo : Mammon
It happened the day Asmo looked into the mirror and felt something missing. Suddenly his own reflection wasn't enough anymore. He pondered what it was when you happened to walk into his room and hug him from behind. And then he found the missing piece. You. He simply had to make sure you would become a part of him now.
Now contrary to popular belief, he did get nervous while thinking of proposing. This man is all about lust and a little kid when it comes to love. It's a whole new emotion and he's unsure how to deal with it. With some advice from Satan's romance books he lights your room up with candles, groomed himself perfectly, waiting for you to return to your room. Only you don't come. "What's taking MC so long?!"
He headed out and found you in Mammon's room instead. Asmo saw in the reflection off the mirror, Mammon's shirt off and him lying on his front as you poured ointment over his scars.
Mammon: Oi MC please don't be so upset...
MC: You didn't deserve this. You didn't. I did.
Mammon: MC, not again.
MC: You took my punishment. You took the blame for the broken vase for my sake.
Mammon: I didn't want ya getting hurt ya stupid human!
MC: Don't be calling me stupid and then go off doing stupid stuff yourself! *cries*
Mammon: MC...no don't cry. Please I'm sorry.
MC: Don't apologize for this! Mammon you're too kind... You keep taking blame for others, and the others just UGH.
Mammon: I've gotten used to Lucifer's punishments, MC! I'm more used to it than my brothers so I can take it!
MC: .... You're such a sweet big brother. You can't stop protecting the people you love, can you?
Mammon: *turns around to lie on his back* Now you get why I need to protect ya, don't ya?
Asmo's eyes flew open as did yours. Mammon just confessed to you. Albeit indirectly, but really did. But he felt pity for his older brother. Sure he was caring and sweet sometimes, but mostly he was a thief and a scumbag who constantly gets into trouble. He didn't stand a chance against Asmo's charms.
MC: Mammon... You silly demon. I love you too. *Lays their head on his chest*
Mammon: *blushes and coughs* Of course ya love the Great Mammon, human!
MC: *smiles against his skin* Swear to me, you won't ever do that again else I will fight Lucifer myself!
Mammon: *smiles* He's attacked ya thrice and yer face still loses its colour whenver he's around and yet yer thinking of fighting him for my sake, MC?
MC: OF COURSE!
Mammon: But I don't want that. Ya did too much for all of us when ya sacrificed your life to bring Belphie back. I should know, I held ya in my arms. *Tears up* Ya know ye were smiling still?? So calm and undisturbed as if ya didn't care what happens to ya now that all the brothers are together?
MC: You caught me...
Mammon: And I never want to catch ya like that again, get that human!? I will be a good protector as I was meant to be.
MC: Mammon... you're far too kind to be a demon. *Kisses him and gets on top of him*
Mammon: *grips their arms and holds them close* Stay with me tonight.
Asmo watched as you nodded and took off your top and lay down over him again, your skins in gentle and intimate contact and you both wrap your arms around and you presses kisses onto each other. The moonlight danced on your entangled bodies.
He stared and stared, his insides burning with an alien feeling. He hadn't known envy till you came along. His signature move would be to call both of you out and suggest a threesome, but what you both seemed to have was impenetrable. And in the mirror where he saw your reflections, he couldn't see himself.
At his best
This demon had never known love. He might have if Mammon hadn't decides to confess that very night.
But who cares? What's done is done. It's time to root for the both of you. He still has his followers to turn to.
"Mammon finally confessed huh?" He asked jokingly. Until he saw you blush and nod.
"You both must have fun together huh?" He says with a dry laugh.
Your hugs and headpats still keep him going. He takes you buy new dresses knowing it's to impress Mammon instead.
Tries so hard to conceal his tears and tantrums around you. He doesn't want to lose the small part of you that he had left.
At his worst
He cannot stay home. The sight of you both together makes him irritated and stressed both very bad for his skin.
He drinks and parties uncontrollably, bringing home demons and succubi that always seem to resemble you.
One night, Lucifer had enough and caught him by the collar, forbidding him to go to his room. Asmo giggled until Mammon and you showed up.
He swiftly escaped Lucifer's grasp and lunged at you, holding your face between his trembling hands. You look at him closely, his make up was messier than usual, the cresent underneath his eyes was darker than usual.
"MC...look at me. Look at only me. Just for a little while." Asmo said and his eyes glowed. He'd turned on his charm on full force as he leaned into you for a kiss.
Mammon pushed him back and stood before you protectively. Asmo fell back, laughing like a maniac. "Stupid Mammon they are with you out of pity! How long do you think you can make them stay with that stupid brain and sub par beauty?"
You teared up and screamed, "Asmo stop saying things like that! You dont even know anything about him!" Mammon hugged you tight, trying to calm you down.
And then in a lowly growl he said, "Asmo don't let me see ya laying a finger on MC again. Ya would see how people really see ya if you learnt to look away from your own reflection!"
But Asmo did. He did look away from his reflection. He looked at you. Only you didn't look back at him.

Pop Star Wars AU: Waking
Drabble set in this au which I wrote way back a few weeks ago.
Back then, I had only recently decided to look up my tumblr password for a third attempt at being an appreciative fandom community member instead of just trying to think really hard at internet strangers, and maybe shout into the void a little. (But thereâs like, several people here now??? How did you even find me on the internet? )
Anyway I have since learned how to spell Anakinâs name and insert links. Also that if you resize your window while typing directly into tumblr everything disappears.
Self Indulgent Crack Pop Star Wars Time Travel Fixit (star wars au no 3):
After several years of exile in the Jundland Wastes, Ben Kenobi had not quite finished mentally unpacking the decades of mistakes, grief, and failure that had led him to the desert. It was the work of a lifetime, and some days were harder than others. But after several forays in and out of alcoholism, spice addiction, and every other form of geographically-accessible self-destruction, he could at least say that some days were easier.Â
The process was no doubt made more difficult by the abject solitude. Unlike the chaotic years that constituted the fall of the Republic, he had all too much time to think, and no one around to share his thoughts with. He closed his eyes in the dark of his hut, thoughts drifting between past and future.Â
The past was as ugly and lovely as ever. The larger future didnât look much better, but he could find some joy in the thought of tomorrow and fresh bantha milk when the herd roamed near. Owen was always much less begrudging of his presence when he came with an offering, and Beru would likely invite him to stay for noon meal where he would share in fresh cheese as Luke rambled about his plans to fix-up a junked speeder bike.
The thought of Lukeâs happiness at the treat allowed him enough peace of mind to meditate more deeply.
He carefully broke off a piece of unfair-bitterness from his larger loving-grief. The bitterness he released into the force. The grief he turned over and soothed until its edges dissolved. He accepted it, now smoother if not smaller, laying it to rest alongside his hard-earned wisdom and unfinished poetry.
Tired, but fractionally lighter, Ben Kenobi drifted to sleep.
He opened his eyes to the first rays of daylight peeking in his temple chambers.
The room was intimately familiar. For a few years they were Ashokaâs, on the rare occasion she found herself temple-side and in want of privacy but not complete solitude. For a solid decade before her, the chambers were Anakinâs, though he was quick enough to accept the common room couch when Ashoka entered their life. And before that...they were his. That was his model rocket on the shelf, and his astronomical mobile hanging from the ceiling, and his robes scattered on the floor, though they hadnât been arranged as such in this room since his apprenticeship with Qui-Gon. He sat up.Â
Glad he had put energy into meditation last night, he used the lingering clarity of mind to try and work through possible explanations.Â
Vivid Dream? No a quick pinch to his inner elbow debunked that, as well as the fact that the morning taste in his mouth was more the minty tang of denti-cleaner, rather than the saltiness of dried meat which he had grown accustomed to.
Hallucinogenic mushroom flashback? Possible, though it still wouldnât explain the detail of physical sensations he felt, running his hand from the temple-spun linens on his bed to the warm-carved wood of his bedside table. He stood and did a perfect forward flip in place. Shockingly his knees didnât ache at impact, but a drug induced hallucination of this intensity would have some sort of impact on his equilibrium, and he felt perfectly balanced, at least physically.
Force vision seemed most likely. Sinking into cross-legged meditation, he gradually lowered his mental shields. There was no whisper of Vader or Palpatine anywhere near Hutt space at this time, so the risk of reaching out was both manageable and necessary. Rather than the pure energy he personally associated with intense visions, he felt gradients of light, echoing ripples of emotions, and the unique solidity of force-imbued stone walls.
Heart beginning to race as reality set in, Ben concluded that he was, indeed, in the Jedi temple on Courascant. Even if he had suffered a complete psychotic break, his force sense couldnât lie with such crystal clear detail. Confused unreality mixed with images of the past and future, sure. But this was the temple. It just was.Â
He couldnât make sense of it. Even if he had somehow been found, drugged, and transported to the heart of the empire, the rooms as he sensed them didnât exist anymore. The contents were lost or burnt, the stone walls destroyed and rebuilt into a wing of the Imperial Palace.
Obi-Wan sank deeper into the force and reached out further, searching for he answers. In general, the force felt light, the shroud of the darkside was a hazy irritation in the distance, not a smothering blanket. The manifold wounds in the force formed by senseless war and destruction were absent. Also gone were the tang of grief and loss that he had begun to associate with the templeâs signature even before- even before the purge.
The temple was also full to the brim with tens of thousands of lights in the living force. He reached out to them incredulously, nudging many just to feel a living, sentient response. The last time he remembered feeling so many Jedi all in the temple at the same time was...well, when he still lived in this room. The nearest living force sensitive presence was achingly familiar, though notably and unquestioningly living. He could feel the presence moving nearer and retreated, pulling himself fully back into his body.
The only explanation that fit was that he had suddenly, miraculously, inexplicably traveled back in time.Â
He half ran to his closet, opening the door with a yank to reveal a full length mirror. A once-familiar, 25-year old padawan stared back with visible shock. Of course his knees didnât hurt, this body hadnât yet been broken and abused by knighthood, war, and Tatooine. His hands examined the smooth chin, the unwrinkled forehead, and even the terrible, terrible haircut.
Obi-wan startled at a knock at his door, freezing in place.Â
âPadawan?â Came Qui-Gon Jinnâs voice softly, âI donât intend to pull you out of meditation prematurely, but is there a particular reason you were sprawling over the temple this morning? You startled me somewhat. To be perfectly honest, I think you might have alarmed a few people around the temple, Iâve already received messages from council telling me to reign in my padawan before he hurts himself.âÂ
Qui-Gon sounded more amused than reprimanding, and he paused, clearly waiting for an answer.Â
Obi-Wanâs jaw locked up. What could he say? How could he even to begin to explain what had happened? He sank to floor, head pressed to the ground and tears silent streaming down his face. All he could do was offer to the force were words, the feelings could come later Thank you. Thank youThankyouthankyouTHANKYOU.Â
For whatever reason, the force had granted him a second chance. Regardless if it was intended as punishment, gift, or inexplicable chance, he would build a better future than the one he left behind.Â
âPadawan?â Qui-Gon knocked again, sounding concerned, âAre you alright? If you donât answer Iâm going to have to come in there.â
And all at once he had flipped back to not enough time to think and too many people needing his attention.
Obi-Wan managed to open his mouth to call out some meaningless assurance, intent on gaining more time to process the fantastical situation. Much to his surprise, what came out was a strangled, keening sob. Qui-Gon burst through the door.Â
Obi-Wan realized, with a little embarrassment, that he was curled up practically into a ball on the floor, tears streaming in a shocking waste of water. It was probably not the most dignified, nor the most reassuring position for Qui-Gon to walk in on.Â
Qui-Gon rushed to his side, pulling him up by the shoulders to frantically look him over. âWhat happened?â he demanded, âAre you hurt? Did something go wrong while you were meditating and you were trying to reach out for help?â
Obi-Wan smiled at the barrage of questions. He had almost forgotten that on the rare occasions when Qui-Gonâs perfect Jedi serenity broke, he became somewhat counterproductively intense.Â
âIâm alright, Master,â he tried to say, but what came out was more of a croaking, âMNNrlerR.âÂ
This predictably, only increased Qui-Gonâs concern.
To Obi-Wanâs deep consternation, he was dragged by Qui-Gon to the healerâs wing. He remained quiet during the examination, not wanting to risk whatever was compromising his ability to speak. It could be readjusting to his younger body, or a manifestation of the admittedly great emotional shock he was still experiancing. Or simple lack of practice- it had been several weeks since he had last heard the sound of his own voice, from a certain point of view.
After finding no physical cause for concern, Master Vyr asked Qui-Gon to wait outside.
âPadawan Kenobi?â The Tortugan healer asked gently. âYour Master seems quite insistent that something is wrong. Would you like to discuss what the problem seems to be?â
Obi-Wan cleared his throat and was relieved when his voice came out smooth and under his control, âIâm alight, Master. I apologize for disruption. I experienced a... particularly strong vision when I woke up this morning, and temporarily lost control over myself. Iâm already feeling more stable. I believe I simply need to meditate on what Iâve seen. My master unfortunately came in while I was dealing with some of the emotional aftermath.
âI see,â Vyr responded. âDid you experience this vision before or after your expansive foray into the force? I understand a surprising swath of the temple felt your presence press against them this morning.â
âI reached out after,â Obi-Wan admitted. âMy vision was...particularly dark. I felt the need to ground myself with the presence of other Jedi. Iâll make certain to apologize to anyone I may have startled.â
Eventually he was cleared with the strict instruction to stick with shallow meditation for the next few days as well as a strong recommendation to seek out Master Yoda, Sifo-Dryfas, or one of the other Master known to experience visions.Â
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan walked back to their quarters together in a peaceful quiet. It wasnât until the door clicked behind them that Qui-Gon rounded on his padawan.
âWhat vision could possibly have left you in such distress?â
Obi-Wan walked to the kitchenette to make tea, stalling before answering. âYou have always told me to stay focused on the present, Masterâ
Qui-Gon frowned. âYes, however this...vision seems to have altered you somehow. You are grieved by it.â
âYes. But what I grieve may never come to pass.âÂ
It wonât come to pass. I might not know his every tool, but I do know Sideousâs biggest secret, and I WILL stop him.
âWill you not tell me what you saw?â Qui-Gon asked, sounding somewhat hurt.
Obi-Wan poured the hot water carefully, feeling torn. If he told Qui-Gon everything... would he believe him? Perhaps, eventually but...what would become of Anakin, still just a boy? And the moment he knew of Palpatineâs evil...he knew Qui-Gon. He would favor the direct approach, underestimating the sheer breadth of the trap the sith had laid (Obi-Wan himself lived through it and only began to understand long after it had closed).
âI saw...a great shadow fall over the republic.â
He sat at the table, relishing in the simple pleasure of pouring a cup for Qui-Gon and himself from a shared pot.
Qui-Gon cradled his mug in his hands. âI see. Nothing specific?â
âYour death. At the hands of a tool of darkness. You ran ahead...â Obi-Wan took a scorching sip to stop himself. âIt was foolish. Unnecessary. And I was forced to fight alone without you.
Qui-Gon set the tea down to stroke his beard in thought. âWell. I have no great desire to die. While I make no promises, I will endeavor to avoid leaving you behind âunnecessarily.ââ
âThank you,â Obi-Wan replied, over sincere.Â
They drank in peaceful silence. It was interrupted by a shrill noise from Qui-Gonâs comm.
âIâve just received a personal request from the Chancellor to immediately assist in negotiations with a Trade Federation blockade around Naboo. Are you feeling up to it?â
âYou know, I think I amâ

Could you do hc's for the brothers where Mc is on a call and they overhear the convo that's like
Mc: Him and I-
Friend: Are getting married?
Mc: What? No, that-
Friend: Shhh, no I have this entire thing planned out
Then the friend just starts going off about different themes and color schemes while Mc is like ????
Loved the idea! Hope you enjoy my hc!
âGo and get MC right now, itâs not acceptable to be late for dinner like thatâ, Lucifer frowned at Mammon and the second-born quickly jumped on his feet.
âWhat am I, a delivery boy?â He murmured but deep in his heart, he was happy Lucifer asked him to do so. After all, he is MCâs FIRST, so this is his and only his responsibility toâŚ
He stopped because he heard something⌠something like laughter? Giggles? Intrigued, he pressed his ear to the door.
âSo, what I wanted to sayâŚâ He recognized MCâs tender and lovely voice and he also recognized that the voice was a bit nervous. Huh? Why would that be?
âJUST SAY IT!â The second voice was far more demanding and impatient. Wasnât it MCâs best friend that they mentioned all the time? Ah, right. Itâs evening in the human world too, and usually, around this time humans tend to call each other and talkâŚ
âSo um⌠Him and IâŚâ
âAre getting married?!?!â The second voice burst happily.
Mammon could not believe his ears. Did⌠did MC really just say that? Did they probably⌠Wanted The Great Mammon as their husband?
âHey scumbag, what takes youâŚâ
âShhhh you IDIOT!â Mammon whispered, grabbing Levi by his hoodie and pulling him close. âListen to this!â
âWhat? No, IâŚâ MC sounded frustrated.
âOhhh let me guess! It is the hot tanned boy? The one with white hair? He looks so cool on the photos!â
Mammon melted inside. So he is cool huh? Take that, Lucifer!
In his arms, Levi chuckled silently. âLMAO, what a piece of crapâ he whispered and suddenly gasped. âSatan? What the hell are you doing here?â
âLucifer sent me to check you two. What areâŚâ
âShhh!!â
Meanwhile, the second voice was going on and on. âIf itâs him, then it would be gold and black! Royal colors, you know! What is he like? What does he like? You know he looks a bit crazy so I think we can include some activities at the wedding, right? Like a gambling area! What do you say?â
MC paused for a moment and said âOh, Mammon would love that. But⌠but I wasnât talking about himâŚâ
âHow unfortunateâ Satan grinned in the darkness of the corridor. âOuch, Asmo, stop grabbing me from behind like that! What are you even doing here?â
âAnd what are you all hiding from me? Secrets? Exciting!â Asmo got really delighted and pressed his ear to the door too. âHmhm, so what is our lovely MC talking about? Me, of course, but I had to ask out of politeness!â
The second voice said âOh, itâs not him? So did you mean the blond guy? The one who loves cats and books? To be honest, I always believed you fell for him. Like, who wouldnât? Still water runs deep! Ohhh, wedding in emerald colors! Emerald but make it kawaii! Maybe deserts shaped like cat paws? And omg we can gift everyone with books as a souvenir from you too!â
In Satanâs head, a puzzle clicked and got completed. His favorite human, his favorite color, and his favorite animal - everything was just perfect. And did⌠did they say MC always loved him? For real?
âHey donât get too carried away!â Mammon pushed him but gasped upon finding Belphie standing on his foot. âDa hell?!â
âWhatâs going onâŚâ Lucifer was about to scold them but several hands from different directions sealed his mouth shut. Lucifer was in shock and was about to turn them all into ash when he heardâŚ
âUhhh donât make me guess! Maybe itâs the nerd guy? The one who made you that lovely yukata? Do you know how popular geek weddings are? Like, you can put the rings in a styled wooden box, and you can put gaming figurines on top of the cake, and you can also make so many quests for the guests!â
âNo no, I didnât meanâ... MC sounded helpless but her friend was not ready to give up just yet.
âOh I know! The angelic-looking one? Who dresses better than both of us together? Uhh that would be tough! Iâm not sure heâd approve of my ideas because I bet his sense of style is much better⌠Oh, itâs not him? MC, I hate you! Okay, whom do we have left? Noooooo!â
The second voice sounded so excited that all brothers froze.
âThis huge and incredibly hot redhead? Oh man I totally get you - like, look at that body, right?â
Beel got red when hearing that. At the same time, he had this weird tingling sensation deep in his chest - did MC also consider him hot? Did they really like the way he looks so much?
âBeel is not only muscles - he is amazing!â MC jumped to Beelâs defense, offended that her friend noticed his body first. Beel melted again while Mammon whined, âAh man, unfair!â to Belphie. Belphie yawned.
âSo no wonder you chose⌠wait, not him? Huh? His twin brother? The one with messy hair and a mischievous look in his eyes? He is a hottie too, though he also looks like a troublemaker⌠Though his palette is pretty obvious so it wonât be too difficult. Just leave enough pillows here and there for the guests.â
âIâm telling you, itâs notâŚâ MC tried to say something but her friend just wouldnât have it.
âI KNEW ITâ the second voice sounded so content and loud that everyone, including Lucifer, stood in surprise and shock. âYou took the number one prize, MC, you chose the eldest brother!â
Lucifer felt blood rushing to his cheeks. His brothers were piercing him with their eyes and Asmo said in a sweet voice âLucifer, my dear brother, would you mind explaining a few things to us?â
But before Lucifer could open his mouth, they heard the second voice again: excited and happy:
âAn incredibly stylish, black wedding! Gothic, mysterious, unique! Red wine for the guests, classic music, probably happening in a castle or something. Oh my, I am getting goosebumps just thinking of it!â
âOdette!â MC finally managed to interrupt. âWhat I wanted to say isâŚâ
Everyone held their breath. Satan was holding a hand on Mammonâs mouth, just to make sure. Asmo grabbed Beelâs arm tightly as if grabbing a safety belt. Lucifer did not frown but all his face expressed anticipation.
âWhat I wanted to say is that he and I are very good friends! Luke and I are friends! Luke is a boy from my class but he lives in a different dorm. He is a bit younger but is just adorableâ.
âOhâ, Odette sounded disappointed. âBut what about the brothers?â
âAbout the brothers?â MCâs eyes lit with a scary light. âWhy donât you ask them?â
Before anyone could move, MC leaped to the door and swiftly opened it. Mammon could not hold his balance and fell right on the floor, dragging Levi behind. Satan tripped over Levi and accidentally knocked down Asmo. Lucifer sighed.
âNOW I see why you canât make your mindâ, MCâs friend sounded both excited and amazed. âWell, Iâll leave you for now. But remember - everything is planned! Just let me know which palette you wanna go withâ.
And with a chuckle, the screen went black.

STAR WARS TOP 10 CHARACTERS AND RELATIONSHIPS (PART 2)
4) ASHOKA TANO ( + OBI-WAN AND ANAKIN = THE ORIGINAL TRIO)
While Ashoka on her own deserves the spot and I would normally slide Obi-Wan in the next position and I already pretty much gave Anakin Skywalker a position on the list I felt the need to stack them here not only because their family/friendship bond is one of the best in the entire saga but I also feel that these three really shine the most when put together!
While there are other noticeable characters from her species, Ashoka is the ultimate Togruta pride! Badass, sassy, awesome and wields the double lightsaber in the reverse grip like no one else. She goes from impertinent and immature kid to possibly the most mystical, wise and strong character of all. While never appearing in the movies, Ashoka is always there, snaking her way through all the major events of the Galaxy, facing the complexities and contradictions of each in her unique way. If Obi-Wan is the true Jedi, the one that marries completely the rules, responsibilities and philosophy of his title in it's purest form, Ashoka still pretty much manages to do the same while walking away from the order and its doctrine. They both represent what Jedi should be, the legendary figures the normal people in the Galaxy need and can place their faith in. In many ways, I think what doomed Anakin Skywalker (beyond a lifelong brainwashing from Palpatine) is that he was caught in the middle. He saw all the faults and corruption in the order and couldn't embrace it like his master but couldn't even cut ties like his padawan. Ashoka also gets cookie points for giving Anakin retribution headaches for all those he gave Obi-Wan throughout his own training.
5) R2D2 & C3PO =
Repeat after me: droids are better than humans! Star Wars really does seem to firmly make a point of this since almost all droids introduced in the series are awesome! BB8, Chopper, IG-11, HK-47 (ok, he's not canon, but he's so cool and fun he at least deserves a mention), you name it, but nobody takes the cake quite like these two. They have truly stuck together through thick and thin, countless masters and the most suicidal missions always managing to come out on top. If you think about it, they have witnessed all the dramatic, key events of the Galaxy of their age first hand and have contributed to its history more than any singular hero/villain. The fact that they manage to keep their bolts together through not one but THREE generations of Skywalker drama should already be considered an incredible feat in and out of itself but they do that while remaining the most hilarious and consistent characters of the saga. Their "love /can't bare you" relationship is both hilarious and heartwarming and their personality is so fully fleshed out that at times their reaction to situations is more grounding and relatable than the humans'. These reasons and the fact that they are inextricably bonded to the Skywalker family, almost acting like their guardian angels or family spirits are proof that these two deserve this spot on the list. The force disappoints, R2 and 3PO do not. May the droids be with you!
6) Cal Kestis & BD1 =
All hail the Poncho boy. Right off the bat I'm going to admit something: I have a type and my type is cute redheads. That said, I am very biased when considering Cal but I do honestly have solid reasons for placing him on the list. Not only was Cal caught in the whirlpool that was order66 at an incredibly young age, he has carried himself as a Jedi at heart throughout the entire time he was forced into hiding with an incredibly humble and kind personality holding dear the true principals of the order but he also managed to make incredibly difficult and brave decisions at the end of Jedi: Fallen Order. Cal has an incredibly rare force gift that sets him aside from the rest and a capacity to forgive and believe in others that matches Luke Skywalker's. And his adorable little droid that spends the entire game mostly perched on his shoulder is a perfect counterpart. While talking only in binary BD-1's sweet, loyal and hopeful personality really manages to shine through. I already said that droids are amazing but BD's willing sacrifice to forget his original master fully believing in Cal's ability to come through with the holocron mission even before knowing him really sets him aside from this already incredible category. Also, and it must be said, Cal delivers one of my favourite lines ever "I'm trash, just not approved trash". Oh boy do I hope EAgames and Ubisoft pull out a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, I just can't wait to get more of these two!

The Stoicism of Chanel Boots Luke
I want to speak to the idea of Lukeâs characterization feeling âoffâ or ânot like himâ in his appearance when he comes to answer Groguâs call. People have stated that the âReal Luke Skywalkerâ would have spoken words of comfort, would have gotten down on one knee to speak with Grogu, would have been warm and open, not cold and stoic. My genuine question is this, âWhere does this type of understanding of Lukeâs characterization come from?â
In Return of the Jedi, Luke shows up in his killer black outfit with Chanel boots serving Straight Looks, speaking with a new-found confidence that is both attractive yet still quite awkward. Luke tells a still-mostly-blind Han that heâs âtaken care of everythingâ and that they have no worries of dying in the Sarlacc pit, and Hanâs response is just âOh. *Rolls eyes* Great.â. Sure, heâs been frozen in carbonite for a while (and canât see the killer outfit change) but itâs clear that, to Han, Luke is no Savior, no God. Heâs just this kid who Han has grown quite attached to who likes to play with laser swords and is into some weird stuff at the moment. Even to those with fully functional eyes, Lukeâs fighting style on Jabbaâs cruiser is quite green, and not just because of the glow of his saber. Heâs awkward, gets shot in the hand, and lacks what some would probably consider to be âJedi Knight Fighting Finesseâ. But completely in his defense, he only first held a lightsaber 4 years prior, and really has only been training for a year at this point.Â
Even when Luke is tied up in preparation to be a main course at an Ewok feast, he speaks with that same awkward confidence, one that he is honing into but still feels oddly out of touch at this point. You can see that he is beginning to view his purpose in this adventure with his friends quite differently. No longer is he just the kid kinda tagging along while Han is wielding a blaster and running full force into danger with Chewy. Luke is now the one that can use his connection to the Force to aid the adventure in a different way, to offer his own unique brand of help to his friends.Â
After theyâre inducted into the tribe and Luke retreats outside for a quiet moment, Leia inquires as to whatâs bothering him and he again speaks in calm measured statements. There is little to no emotion as he tells how he has no memory of his mother - how he fears he is endangering the mission of his friends because of his connection to Vader. These are things that Poncho Luke would have been hysterical over, but Chanel Boots Luke is discovering that his role as Jedi Knight is more than just slicing things with a lightsaber and lifting rocks. Itâs about his calm and rationalized approach to his struggles as well as the struggles of the galaxy.Â
Lukeâs first actual show of emotion in this film is when he is overwhelmed by anger, and at the Emperorâs taunting, summons his weapon in an attempt to strike him down. Vader stops the attack, but Lukeâs true emotions have already been revealed. Later, the strongest display of this hatred comes from Vaderâs taunts about turning Leia if Luke will not surrender to the Dark Side. This results in the most emotional display yet, culminating in the moment where Luke severs Vaderâs mechanical hand and sends his saber falling out of sight. Upon rational realization of what heâs done and how he was hurt the same way before, he chooses to break the vicious cycle in that moment and break out of his emotional spiral.Â
Lukeâs return to his friends and the heroes of Rebellion after their victory is one of joyous celebration. Handshakes and hugs with Leia, Han, and Wedge eventually brings him to reflection on those Jedi who have passed - Obi Wan, Yoda, and now Anakin - and the realization of what that means for his personal future.Â
When Return of the Jedi ends, it is clear to Luke that he feels responsible for restoring the Jedi Order and all that comes with it. This involves not only stepping up to fulfill the galaxyâs idea of what a âJedi Knightâ is, but also establishing and training those who will be the future generations of Jedi. Itâs a hefty task, and one that seems quite juxtaposed to the sand rat in A New Hope that just wanted to go to Tosche Station to pick up power converters. But thatâs how a literary âcall to actionâ tends to work.Â
What is ultimately odd for us as viewers and consumers of this story is that we have not yet seen who Luke is in the time between his confrontation with the Emperor and when Rey finds him in solitude 30 years later. THIRTY YEARS! It only took 22 years for Anakin to be born and later turn to the Dark Side. 30 years is plenty of time for someoneâs personality to evolve into something completely new!
Sooooo, coming back around to peopleâs issues with Luke in The Mandalorian. The main point Iâm trying to make is that in our most involved interactions with Luke prior to his appearance on Moff Gideonâs ship - his time during Return of the Jedi - he spends most of it quite devoid of outright warm emotion. He speaks with an undertone that reflects his role as a Jedi, but he hasnât quite figured out how to blend that timbre seamlessly with his own voice yet. It leads to something that feels somewhat awkward and definitely different, but the reality is that this change is not a âbadâ one. Many have stated that Chanel Boots Luke is the Luke that sparked many a feeling in people. This is the Luke that is beginning to understand what his destiny is. Itâs the Luke that would choose death over betrayal of the Jedi Order. Itâs the Luke that is evolving and changing into what he believes the galaxy needs him to be.Â
There is now something around a 5 year gap between Return of the Jedi and when Luke arrives to find Grogu. We saw just how much Luke changed in the time between Cloud City and Jabbaâs Palace, so it fully stands to reason that the change would be even more exaggerated over 5 more years of time.Â
Also, what DO we know has transpired in these 5 years? We know that Ben was born.Â
We are told that Benâs strong connection to the Force was known even while he was still in the womb. For Luke, the bond that he shares with Leia and Han, one of newfound family and friendship forged through rebellion and victory, is now facing a new challenge stronger and more important than a looming galactic power struggle. Benâs conception, coupled with the Palpatine/Snoke influence that Luke and Leia both feel, pushes Luke to understand the new struggle they are all facing. Full restoration of the Jedi Order is vital, not only to combat the always growing power of the Dark Side, but because he believes the power in Ben MUST be controlled and used in conjunction with the Light Side of the Force, lest the sins of the galaxy repeat themselves, and a new Vader is truly created.Â
So in preparation for building this new Order, Luke fully embodies what he knows to be the role of a Jedi Knight and Master. We as consumers of the story know what this role looked like at the height of the Jedi Order. There was measured stoicism, following of orders above all emotion, and strong emphasis given to letting go of attachments. It stands to reason that this information was continually passed to Luke through his connections with past Jedi such as Yoda and Obi Wan, the same way he gained experiences while training on Dagobah.Â
Suddenly, the Luke we saw tear through a battalion of Dark Troopers and calmly state that he is indeed a Jedi seems par for the course. He has been mentally and physically preparing to be what the galaxy needs him to be (and more importantly what Ben needs him to be) for the better part of 5 years. In his mind, and likely the mind of every Jedi he has consulted along the way, the best chance of restoring the Jedi Order to its former glory is through this mystical personification of an ancient religion. The mystery and awe surrounding the Jedi has not been lost from the galaxy in their absence, and it is up to Luke to embody that âgod-like saviorâ that everyone expects him to be. And in that, he is successful - He is the one who saved the galaxy - He becomes a legend.Â
From Groguâs perspective, he likely sees this demeanor of Lukeâs as quite familiar. Itâs not like Mace Windu was kneeling down at the Jedi Temple giving all the younglings fist bumps and hugs all the time. This stoic and rational mindset is what Grogu probably saw constantly during his young training, and that has a comfort to it, as âcoldâ as it might seem to us. As Grogu signals to Luke that he is ready to be picked up so their journey can begin, the brief moment they share together feels significant. There now exists a solid tangible connection between the Jedi of the past and the new order Luke is attempting to build, and the amount of knowledge that can now be shared is vast. Luke likely sees in Grogu the ability to find even better ways to bring forth this new Jedi Order, ultimately in service of the entire galaxy.Â
Itâs difficult to know what happens in the timeline from here. Luke takes Grogu 5 years prior to Ben beginning his training, so we have to accept that some of the timeline doesnât make total sense. In speaking to Rey during The Last Jedi, Luke states that he took Ben and a dozen other students and âbeganâ a training temple. So either some form of training was already taking place with Grogu for 5 years prior to Benâs training and it's just sloshed together in flashback context, or Grogu just tagged along for 5 years before official training began. Iâm guessing it's somewhat closer to the previous of the two.Â
To recap our timelines, we have added two small glimpses of Luke between Return of the Jedi and the sequel trilogy.Â
1. The small glimpse with Grogu 5 years after ROTJ 2. The flashback of Benâs turning 18 years after that
(There are pieces of info from novelizations, but Iâm just sticking with visual media right now).Â
There is still a LOT we do not know in the gaps, but I think we can make some solid inferences as to the type of demeanor and disposition Luke possessed, and the types of beliefs he held about how to be a Jedi Master. We see in the final and true iteration of âThe Fateful Nightâ flashback that, at Benâs turning, Luke once again became emotionally overwhelmed at the idea of those who he loved being harmed by the Dark Side of the Force, exactly as he had on the Death Star when Vader threatened to turn Leia. But as Luke states, it was pure instinct - pure emotion - and as soon as he realized what heâd done, looking down at the mechanical hand holding his saber (a deliberate visual flashback by Rian to the cycle-breaking moment in ROTJ) he was filled with shame. But unlike the last time, he does not walk away from this moment a legend, but instead as a failure. A failure to his nephew, and as Ben turns to become Kylo Ren, a failure to the galaxy.Â
Ultimately, we know that Benâs training was unsuccessful at keeping him from the Dark Side, not because Luke was a poor Jedi Master, but because a âMasterâ wasnât what Ben truly needed. Instead what he needed was family. He needed love.Â
I would like to take a quick detour to speak on those who are very much upset about Din removing his helmet in front of a literal room full of people, one of whom is a complete stranger to him. I fully understand why many are saying he would never do something so expressly against his religious beliefs. And youâre correct. The Din Djarin we have seen for so much of this series is the one who put his religious beliefs above all else, despite comfort, desire, convenience, all of it. But at the end of this chapter of his life, the removal of his helmet to share this moment with Grogu is not about abdication from his religion. Rather, it is about his realization that the connection between himself and this child is more important to him than the religious beliefs he had been following without fault for his entire life. Whether you believe this choice he made was ârightâ or not, the moment is meant to show that this bounty hunter who never had attachment to anything except those beliefs has now found something even more important to him. He has had a change of priorities and is accepting his attachment to Grogu and validating it.Â
âJust for once, let me look on you with my own eyesâ In this related moment, Vader pays the ultimate price to see Luke, he pays with his life, and willingly does so. Acceptance that what was so important before (being alive at the expense of being more machine than man) is no longer the most important thing to Anakin, and rather connection and love of those in our lives becomes the real goal and purpose.Â
What foreshadowing it might be for Din to set aside his strict religious beliefs and understandings to show just how much he loves and cares for this child. What a lesson that may have struck Luke in his years of solitude that perhaps, if he had just been more like Din Djarin, putting aside old religion in favor of loving and caring for those who are in your life right now, Ben may have never turned. Luke may have never failed.Â
So as I ramble on into the abyss, my thoughts are these: The stoic Luke Skywalker in Chanel Boots is not a strange âout-of-left-fieldâ characterization. This is the Luke that the galaxy thought it needed, and exactly who Luke thought he needed to be for the galaxy. This progression falls directly in-line with his self-reflections in The Last Jedi, 30 years after his confrontation with Vader and Palpatine. To those who still struggle to accept Lukeâs characterization in solitude on Ahch-To, Iâve got plenty more to say on that, but this has already gone on long enough. If anyone is interested in hearing it, I can certainly expound upon that as well.Â
Bottom line: We donât know what happens next. Thatâs both the curse and the thrill of a saga thatâs being built in 6 different timelines simultaneously. Hereâs to the joy of finding out together.Â

What Do You Say?
Read on AO3
The first time Finn met Poe, he thought they'd never get along. Poe looked like the rough sort of kids that had bullied Finn back home. And his hands looked greasy. Finn had stayed just a little behind Master Luke. Not hiding. But also hoping that if he wasn't completely seen, he wouldn't be made to play with the other kid, just like all adults made all children do whenever they wanted to talk to their adult friends. As if all kids got along all the time.
But Master Luke wanted to talk to his sister about important stuff. And that meant no children around. Finn tried not to frown too much when Poe took his hand.
When it was time to leave, Finn protested, asking to stay longer.
He got a look from Luke, as if the man had seen this coming. But it didn't change anything. They still had to leave and his sister wasn't running a babysitting service, despite was Poe's presence said.
Poe didn't see Finn again for another two years and because of that, he only had a vague memory of a kid he'd played with once. But he wasn't a kid anymore. He was nine and that meant he was practically a teenager.
This time Poe had been with his parents and Finn had been brought along with someone he didn't recognize. But he wore robes that he'd seen before. The kind of uniforms that Poe didn't exactly understand but thought were cool. And Finn was cool too. He had these weird powers and could move stuff with his mind.
"It's not 'moving stuff with my mind'. It's the Force", Finn tried to explain again, the way the older jedis did. Although even he didn't fully comprehend it. "It's more like there's a bunch of invisible hands. And if I focus really hard, I can use one of those hands."
"It's still really cool. I can't do any of that stuff", Poe said while bending some scraps of metal in his hand.
"Yeah, but I can't do that", Finn pointed at what he was working on.
Poe looked down to the creature he'd been making. Even he couldn't tell what it was, but he knew it had four legs and a tail. He liked fiddling with stuff and making other stuff with it. It was usually metal, since they had plenty of that to go around. Since Finn had said so, Poe felt a little proud of his work.
"Let's play hide and seek!"
They played for hours, taking turns finding each other. Poe was the better one at finding. But he had to admit that Finn found really good hiding spots. When it came time for Finn to leave, Poe felt a little sad, but his parents assured him he'd see Finn again.
And they had been right. It wasn't everyday, which Poe would have preferred, but he did see Finn a lot for the next couple of years, always accompanied by one of those jedi folk.
Then just as quickly it was all over. Finn came to him one day, more somber than he normally was.
"They say I'm at an important part of my training. And that I've really gotta focus. They're practically moving me to another galaxy."
"So what? We can't see each other anymore?", Poe asked, looking very much like he was going to knock some heads with the tool in his hand.
"Just not for now", Finn said quickly. "But we can still talk. They're not taking comms away from me."
For the next few years, Finn's only connection through Poe was his voice. The transmissions were audio only but Finn didn't mind. He found it very easy to imagine Poe's smile when he was excited and his pout whenever they had to wrap things up.
Once, just once, Finn tried to reach out and feel for Poe. It had been a few years and he'd already been trained to do so; to feel the life force of those around them. And could now recognize the unique signature of Rey, another apprentice being taught along with him. But that was only when she was right next to him. Poe was at least a whole solar system away.
Still, he tried. He thought of what Poe meant to him, how it felt to talk to him, how his voice sounded. Finn wasn't able to cross planets and feel Poe's life energy. But when he opened his eyes, he was floating.
It's a common thing in long distance relationships, whether romantic or platonic. Especially when one is growing up. You get a little busier each year and have less time to talk. And whenever you do have news, you wonder if the person on the other end is busy. Or if it's been so long since you've talked that their no longer invested in your life. Eventually the calls decreased. Poe felt bad every time he thought about calling Finn but not having the energy too.
Some days he'd wonder what Finn was getting up to. How was his training going? Was he a full fledged jedi now? Did he ever get into danger? Now that he was older, Poe understood the heavy responsibility on Finn's shoulders. He never wanted to distract him from his work or take up his time when he needed to rest. Then it got to a point where it had been so long that Poe figured Finn wasn't even thinking of him anymore.
So when General Leia had deployed him and his team to a mission where she had explicitly said some of their jedi friends would be part of the ground force, he tried not to hope. The chances of Finn being among them were slim. And even if he was there, it wasn't liked there'd be some heartfelt reunion. They hadn't talked in years. They were both totally different people now.
When the battle ended, Poe landed to meet with the jedi who had apprehended their surrendered enemies. He staunchly kept his eyes forward on the jedi in front of him. He wasn't looking for Finn. He wasn't looking for Finn. He wasn't looking for Finn.
After settling up and getting their new prisoners to a transport, Poe had been just about to return to his own ship. Then something compelled him to stop and look to the side.
And there was Finn.
"...Hey", Poe said, feeling a little breathless, which was weird, that was weird, right?
"Hey", Finn replied.
Poe couldn't believe the man standing before him. Of course Finn would grow up, that's how bodies worked. He looked so different. So mature. Did he look any different in Finn's eyes? Was that a good thing? Did he look more like a man? Poe normally kept his face clean shaven but maybe he should've started a beard? He'd just finished an air fight, he must've been a sweaty mess and probably had the worse helmet hair. His heart was beating rapidly, more than happy to see Finn again but also wishing that he could've gotten some warning.
"You look good. Like a real jedi." Poe noticed the absence of a braid. Had it really been that long?
"You too. Like a real pilot", Finn said with a cheeky grin.
"Yeah..."
"...Yeah..."
For a while, they seemed frozen and Rey looked on with worry. "Are they stuck?", she asked Luke.
Luke simply hushed her and led her away. As entertaining as it was, he figured he'd be nice and leave them to it. Even after they left, both young men hesitated, trying to think of what to say, almost saying it, and then re-thinking their words. Then Finn finally gathered the nerve.
"I've missed you."
And Poe was floating.

RWBY team impact anon. Thank you for answering my asks! I did want to follow up with one quick question. Does RWBY actually represent anyone? Nobody appointed/elected them. Blake is a princess bc she's Ghira's kid and that's it. IW has a commissioned duty. RWBY doesn't seem to have a legal right to make decisions for Solitas...let alone withhold information from IW that could impact the continent's defense. I'm confused why these kids are the protagonists? Has CRBWY done enough to justify that?
Of course! :D
I touched on this briefly many months back and as far as I can tell, no, the show hasnât done a particularly good job of answering that question: Why are these people our protagonists? What gives them the power to get involved? Usually storiesâparticularly fantasy storiesâprovide clear-cut answers so that we can best immerse ourselves in this situation, rather than continually questioning why this group, out of all groups, is the one we get to follow. The two most common explanations are:Â
This group has to fight whether they want to or not. Meaning, some outside force is exerting control over them. Theyâre stuck in the center of this fight whether they like it or not and thus we, in turn, are stuck with them as our protagonists. Think Harry Potter with a prophecy hanging over his head. Luke being born as a Skywalker. Geralt forced into a witcherâs life with a destiny to juggle. These characters are all bound to something larger than themselves and are, to one extent or another, carried along on the current of that. They have to fight. (âHaveâ â often overcoming the internal conflict of whether theyâll agree to this unwanted responsibility adds to their heroism. They COULD just run for the hills like Ozpin with his cabin, but they wonât).Â
RWBY, however, undermines this sort of setup at every turn. Our characters continually reject responsibilities that may have led them to being a part of other fightsâBlake leaves the White Fang despite her parentage and life-long involvement in it, Weiss walks about from the SDC despite being born as an heir and wanting to improve the companyâand the closest thing we get to fate is with Rubyâs silver eyes. However, that was likewise undermined when Maria came onto the scene. Rather than presenting us with a world where silver eyes are either unique or rare enough that Ruby feels compelled to fight Salem even if she doesnât otherwise want to, they gave us a character with the same skill, even more talent (if Mariaâs moniker as The Grimm Reaper is any indication) who then said no thanks. She left. Bowed out. So whatâs stopping Ruby from doing the same? Nothing. She could pull a Maria and be done with this nonsense and the world would continue surviving as it has for over a thousand years (with the exception of Salemâs new involvement, but again, we donât see Ruby deciding to fight because Salem is now a more active threat). Ruby is not at the center of the worldâs safety and there is no other outside force acting on the group to a point where the audience feels that their involvement in the fight is unquestionably necessary. We might have gotten that if the story had spent more time developing Rubyâs silver eyes. We might have gotten that if the story had spent more time establishing that if Ruby were to bow out, she and her friends would still be endlessly hunted by Salem (AKA, if she wants any kind of life, Salem has to be defeated first). We might have gotten that if the silver eyes/other talents were presented as lynchpins, etc. As it is, RWBY keeps providing examples of how heroes can leave, do leave, have every reason to leave, because theyâre not the most talented, their powers are not unique, not necessary, there is nothing in the universe saying YOU have to be a part of this fight... so why are they?Â
This leaves us with heroes who fight because itâs the right thing to do. Think Frodo saying heâll take the ring to Mordor. Katniss stepping in to save her sister. Peter Quill yelling that heâs going to try to save the universe because heâs one of the assholes who lives in it. Thereâs nothing like destiny, a prophecy, or an inborn talent forcing (âforcingâ) the hero to step up, they just do it because itâs the right thing to do and/or they realize that no one is able or willing to help. They and others might both assume theyâre not be the best for the job (insert theme of underestimating Hobbits here), but theyâre doing it anyway. Theyâre all thatâs available.Â
Similar to the above, Ruby could fit really well into this setup. Sheâs just a kid, sheâs talented but sheâs barely trained, she knows nothing about magic or this intricate war... surely thereâs someone better to take her place? But Ruby wants to help people, which means sheâs poised to step up if thatâs required of her... but RWBY failed to create those circumstances. Ozpin is not an inept or corrupt leader who she must replace â he created a time of peace and kept the relics safe for who knows how long. Ruby does not live in a world where others refuse to step up â sheâs surrounded by talented fighters who are already involved in this war. Ruby doesnât even live in a world where she fights alongside these more talented and informed fighters â by the end of each volume sheâs replaced them as the ârealâ hero. When someone asks, âWhy is the screw up group of convicts trying to save the world in Guardians of the Galaxy?â the answer is, âBecause no one else is doing it. The world has to take what it gets.â With RWBY itâs, âWhy is the group of second year students, traumatized from a recent battle, going off to find a Maiden they definitely canât beat?â and the answer is, âBecause... they want to? There are other older, more powerful, more informed people dealing with this situation already but Rubyâs group is going off regardless.â âWhy is RWBYJNR at the center of this fight now? Have they proven themselves some way? Is there no one else?â âWell no, not exactly. They just showed up at Ozpinâs safehouse expecting to be involved, they definitely provided much needed support at the Haven battle, but then they created circumstances where they were at the center of things regardless of whether others approved of that: stealing Ozpinâs secrets, driving him off, lying to Ironwood, etc.â Then, because the story hasnât successfully laid out why they have to fight or why others would want them to fight (they often donât), we get the plot turning in on itself to explain their continued involvement. Like refusing to grapple with their recent behavior. Or having them suddenly able to beat the Ace Ops.Â
RWBYâs underlying reasoning for why this group is at the center of this plot is âBecause theyâre the protagonistsâ which is a circular explanation. You should craft protagonists that have a reason to be involved, not ignore the lack of a reason for the generic protagonists youâve got. And donât get me wrong, RWBY has lots and lots of nods towards various reasons, but theyâre never well developed. Things like Rubyâs eyes, her âI want to help people,â the othersâ devotion to her, the villainsâ interest in them... theyâre all the beginnings of compelling explanations, but RWBY never does much of anything with it, largely because we havenât gotten enough of a look into the groupâs personal motivations. Why is Ruby so compelled to throw herself into a war? Because of her mom? Thatâs never said. Why is Jaune? Because Cinder killed Pyrrha? Then why isnât he trying to hunt her down? Why is Yang? Because sheâs Rubyâs sister? Give us better motivation for Ruby then. And so on and so forth. This is particularly important post the lore episode because the group learned about Salemâs immortality and came to the unanimous conclusion that this war was impossible to win. So why are you still in it?? Volume 6 and 7 should have been an exploration of why theyâre fighting, what theyâre fighting for, and what they can bring to the table. Instead they happily ignore all of it until Salem and her subordinates get right in their face, then Ruby took control of the situation despite the story failing to establish why she wants to, let alone why she should.Â
When we have characters like Ironwood and the Ace Ops trying to stop her and the takeaway is supposed to be âOmg how could they stand against Ruby theyâre evil!â ... I just find myself agreeing. Ruby is a teenager. Ruby has one year of formal training. Ruby has thus far rejected or screwed over everyone sheâs allied herself with (outside of the group who has agreed to follow her). Ruby has a very useful skill, but does incredibly little to learn about it or train it. Regarding the question, âShould Ruby be the hero we follow?â weâre shown a number of things that give a resounding âNo.â Sheâs the protagonist because her name is in the title, not RWBY has convincingly written a world where her help is necessary or, at this point, even desired. She runs off to nearly get kidnapped, orchestrates an attack on the Argus military that results in a Leviathan grimm showing up, emotionally cripples the worldâs oldest defender, undermines and betrays his replacement, and is now risking two relics/a Maiden by hanging around to fight Salem head on. At this point it doesnât matter how pure her intentions are, Rubyâs actions have been inconvenient at best and downright damaging at worst. Though they clearly donât intend it, RT is closer to writing antagonists then protagonists. Outside of their pure âWe want to help peopleâ outlook, weâve got this group shouldering their way into this war and, more often than not, making things a whole lot worse. If the story had done a better job of explaining their involvement, such mistakes would be quiet sympathetic, but as it is their insistence on getting involved reads more as arrogance rather than resignation/drive: I have to help. Thereâs no one else. Iâm needed.Â

The Heroic Heralds of the Hermann Horde
Part 1
written by:Â @anotheronechicagobogâ
Warnings: swearing, tension, parental issues
A/N: You should read my fic âTylenol and Tequilaâ part three for some relationships to make sense but it can be read without having done so, the story focuses mainly on the Hermann family (or Hermann Horde as I have dubbed them) but thereâs some stellaride and upstead in here as well.
Being one out of five kids was exhausting. There were pros and cons that they all had to deal with. Lee Henry, Luke, and Annabelle got new clothes, Lee Henry because he was the oldest, Luke because hand me downs were too worn when they got to him, and Annabelle because she was the only girl. Kenny, Luke, Max, and Annabelle got away with pretty much everything because they didnât have to set an example (and the only times they did get in trouble usually had more to with a bad call their dad had than anything else). Kenny was unintentionally favoured by their dad more because he has made it very clear he wants to be a firefighter like his dad. Max was favoured by their mom because of his traumatic birth. Kenny, Luke, and Max were closer because Lee Henry was the firstborn and not only had Cindy and Christopher decided to wait a few years before having more kids but also because he had to be the responsible older brother/third parent most of the time, his parents hadnât intended for that to happen and they felt guilty about it sometimes, but they needed his help and made sure he got at least an hour of free time (this didnât include homework or chores) a day. Annabelle felt left out frequently because she was the only girl and while she didnât fit the girly girl mould, she just didnât share a lot of interests or societal problems with her brothers. So the Hermannâs were their own unique brand of love and chaos, and they were alright with that.Â
Lee Henry had gotten a part-time job for Friday nights and weekends as a lifeguard. People liked to joke that lifesaving ran in the family, but that wasnât the case. Lee didnât want to ever rush into a burning building, he never wanted to let worry and fear linger over his familyâs heads day after day. Wondering if every unexpected knock on the door or phone call was a death notice or call to the hospital. He didnât resent his dad for his career, but it had affected a lot of his life choices. The reason he became a lifeguard was because when he was 10, almost 11, his dad fell through the floor of a burning building.
He remembers the phone ringing, wondering if it was Susan from his grannaâs quilting club, or Kraken (Karen) from the PTA. His mom answered with a cheerful hello but when she made no other noise and the room suddenly felt thick, he looked up, and he saw his momâs face. She had gotten so pale he could see her veins, her eyes were wet and had sunken in, her mouth moving like she was screaming so loud it would shatter windows but nothing was coming out, and then she collapsed. Her knees just gave out underneath her. Lee jumped up to try and keep his mom from falling on the floor. He was too weak to catch her so they landed together on the hardwood together with a thump. She still couldnât say anything, she started shaking, so Lee grabbed the phone. â-Ms. Hermann? Are you still there? Did you hear me? Your husband fell through the floor of a burning building, heâs on transport to the hospital-â
âIn ambulance sixty-one?â
â... Iâm sorry who am I speaking to?â
âLee Henry Hermann, son of Christopher and Cindy Hermann. Is my dad being taken to the hospital in ambulance sixty-one?â
âYes, but I should really-â
âWhich hospital?â
âLakeshore medical centre, I should really speak to-â
âWeâre on our way.â He hung up, remembering the words his dad has said to him a thousand times, âif youâre in a dangerous situation do everything you can to stay calm, you can make things worse if you panicâ. âHello, yellow taxi? I need a cab to take five people, one adult and four kids, to Lakeshore medical centre. My Dad got hurt and mom canât speak.â It was a flurry of running and car seats and firefighter turn out gear that wasnât his dadâs. That wasnât cool anymore. That he couldnât stand to look at or smell. So when no one was looking he got up and, calmly, walked to a closet. He walked inside, closed the door, and let it all out. He cried, muffled his screams with his forearms. He ruthlessly scratched his arms, and hit himself. In the head, chest, thighs, feet. He knew right then, from the look on his motherâs face, from the grimness behind uncle Randyâs eyes, from the tearing feeling in his chest, he could never do it. He could never be a firefighter.
When he returned to the group, his long-sleeved shirt was rolled down and heâd stopped at the bathroom before heading to the cafeteria to make sure he looked okay. He was carrying two plastic bags that were filled to the brim with sandwiches and water bottles. He was spotted by uncle Randy first. âLee Henry! There you are, whatâve you got there?â
âSome food and water, I figured weâd all need something to eat and drink, we might be here a while after all.â
âYeah... Hey, I heard that you helped get everyone here, and youâve been really calm and level-headed throughout this whole thing. Youâve done really well, why donât you sit down and weâll keep you company til we hear some news about your dad? Severide can pass around the grub, okay?â Severide made his way over to the oldest Hermann child and gave him a proud smile. âI for one, am not even remotely surprised that youâre so calm. Your old man is a firefighter, remaining calm in stressful situations and helping others is in your blood. Should we be expecting another Hermann at 51?â Lee felt his heart sink into his gut, but thankfully Boden called for all the members of 51 to have a talk in one section of the ER before Lee could answer.
Lee took one last walk around the pool, to make sure he hadnât missed any puddles or items when cleaning the deck while the last of the stragglers got out of the pool and the stands when he heard a loud crack. He whipped his head around and found a teen about his age lying on the floor at the bottom of the stands. He rushed over and methodically went over his injuries, calling out orders to the other lifeguards and people around him. He and Kylie got the guy on their backboard and his neck stabilized. The paramedics arrived quickly. âLee Henry?â
âHey Brett, so we have a teenage male, unsure of age or name, with a head laceration, possible neck trauma, and loss of consciousness. He fell off the stands and hasnât so much as opened his eyes, one of the other lifeguards went through the change rooms to see if there was anyone waiting for him but they couldnât find anyone. I noticed him come in a couple of hours ago, but he didnât socialize with or appear to have come with anyone. He just came in and sat down at the top.â
âAlright, well you did a good job, weâve got it from here.â
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning he was met by his dad, smiling from ear to ear. âThere's my boy.â Christopher began patting Lee Henry on the back. âBrett said you were amazing, guess you'll be joining me at 51 pretty soon, huh? And tonight we are going to celebrate, the entire firehouse is coming over and we're gonna do a pot luck.â
Lee Henry couldn't get a word in edgewise, just sighed as his dad walked away, over the moon. Lee Henry finished getting ready under the concerned eyes of his mother, who had witnessed the tension in his shoulders and fine line his lips went into. âAre you okay, honey?â
âYeah, I'm great. I'll see you after work.â He gave his mom a kiss on the cheek, grabbed his duffle and headed for the station.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lee felt his stomach sink when he recognized the extra cars cluttering the street in from of his house. He rolled his shoulders back at the sound of heavy laughter coming from inside, knowing it was better just to face it head on. He was met with the smell of various kinds of foods, and was met with the sound of rowdy firefighters. âHey Herm, the guest of honour had finally arrived. Lee Henry, come over here!â
âHey guys.â Lee spent the next two hours, after working a 10 hour shift of a labour intensive job, bearing everyoneâs comments about the ânext generation of Hermann firefightersâ, and constantly being pulled away from the food table! Donna made pallea and his mom made brownies! He just wanted to eat!
He was tired, hungry, and emotionally worn out when uncle Kelly pulled him aside. âHey, Lee, I didn't want to say this to your dad before you, but I made a couple calls, and was able to get you a spot at the academy for next fall if you want it. It'll be great-â
âI don't want to be a firefighter.â
âWhat?â
âI haven't since I was ten.â
âLee, you don't have to-â
âI... It's just a personal choice.â
âBut your dad... He thinks you want to be a firefighter.â
âHe never lets me get a word in, just rambles until he has to leave for shift or Molly's.â
âWhat do you want to be then?â
âA doctor.â
âHa, youâre a healer not a smokeater, huh?â
âDonât laugh, you'll need someone to fix up your self-destructive ass when you fall through a floor in a burning house.â Lee just couldn't take it anymore, his emotions had boiled over, so heâd snapped. And now he needed to leave so that he didn't have to watch his uncle put all the dots together right in front of him.
----------------------
He was hungry and in need of comfort. Both from food and people. So when Kylie jogged out of his house after him, he was grateful. They caught the el downtown and went to Bartolliâs, a favourite restaurant of the Hermannâs. âYou were pretty loud, when you were talking to Kelly, just so you know.â
He sighed. âI figured. I texted my mom before we got to the station, told her where we were going, mostly to avoid her worrying, but I fully expect someone to show up.â
âIt does seem like something anyone at 51 would do, they are very involved in each other's lives.â
âHey, you've been dealing with this for a few months, I've been dealing with it my whole life.â Their conversation flowed freely, mixed with milkshakes and deep-dish pizza.Â
âDo you know what you want to do when you get out of high school?â
âDefinitely something that helps people, but I don't think I want to be a firefighter either. Kelly and Stella worry about me just going to school, I can't imagine how they'd feel if I was running into burning buildings! They'd probably only be okay with it if I was at 51 with them, and while I love them, I don't love them that much. I think something in law.â
âThe only issue for us is how to pay for all that.â Â
âWe could join the military, but that does kinda defeat the purpose of not being firefighters...â
âLee Henry? Kylie?â
âDetective Upton and Halstead, hi.â
âWhat are you two doing here? I thought that 51 was celebrating a big save you made.â
âYeah, but it just ended up being a firefighter thing, you know how it goes, especially because apparently, you guys do the same thing.â
âYeah, we do...â
âWell,â Halstead gave a smirk and a nod, âyou two enjoy your pizza.â
âThanks,â Kylie piped up, having not spoken much with the detectives, âand you two have fun on your date.â Lee and Kylie turned to go back to their meal, but noticed the frozen body language and panicked expressions of the two adults. They looked at each other, concerned, before Lee decided to bite the bullet. âUh, guys? Are you okay? Should we call the other Halstead?â
âWeâre not dating.â
âAre you sure about that?â
â... Yesssssss.â
âYou donât sound so sure.â
âHave a nice night kids.â Upstead (what they were to be referred to as according to his mom) turned and bolted out of the restaurant, blushes and pizza in tow. âI really hope that they sort out their feelings, itâs getting a little exhausting and I donât even spend that much time around them!â
âAmen to that.â
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Lee returned home it was late, and only the porch and living room lights were on. He entered the quiet house alone, having dropped Kylie off at her apartment before returning home himself. He locked the door, turned off the porch light, and went straight to the living room knowing that it was better to face his dead head-on than beat around the bush. âDad.â
âLee Henry.â
âWe need to talk.â
âApparently we do.â
âI donât want to be a firefighter.â
âWell, I heard that pretty loud and clear. It was too loud to miss. You know I just donât understand-â
âOctober 10th, 2012.â
âExcuse me?â
âYou and uncle Matt fell through the floor of a burning house. Your ADSU went off cause the fall knocked you unconscious. Iâve heard Gabby say that that was one of the scariest days of her life. And I remembered you comforted her when she visited you in the hospital. But you didnât comfort me-â
âLee-â
âNo. Let me speak for once. I was ten years old. And I had to call the cab company, and get everyone in the car, and keep everyone together, and make sure everyone was eating, and check-in with the nurses about your condition, and get school stuff organized for Luke, Max, and Annabelle, and make all the meals for a week, and get Granna and Grandad on an earlier flight back to Chicago, and manage your medication because mom was too stressed to. Your voice was ringing through my head the entire time, âif youâre in a dangerous situation do everything you can to stay calm, you can make things worse if you panicâ. All that I was told that miserable week was that I was destined to be a firefighter like you. But I was just listening to you, and I realized that being a firefighter was the absolute last thing I want to be when I get older. I had always known in the back of my mind that your job was dangerous, but it didnât hit me until that day, not even when uncle Andy died. I just... I had my blinders ripped off, and I canât ignore the terror I feel every time you leave for work. And I see mom and the others feel it too now that there have been more close calls, and I canât do it. I want you to know that I donât resent you for it in any way, but I canât do that to my friends and family. I canât let the people in my life feel like theyâre saying goodbye to me every time I go to work. And Iâve tried to tell you, but I can never get a word in.â
âI tend to do that apparently. Look, Iâll admit thereâs a part of me thatâs always wanted you kids to follow in my footsteps, but that is a very small part of me. I am actually really happy that you donât want to be a firefighter because I know that I donât have the strength to worry about you or any of the others day after day. It takes a special breed of people to do that, and I donât come from it. If you want to be a doc, thatâs great. I know that youâre more than capable and Iâm really proud of you for being able to recognize that. Iâm also really sorry. That you had to be so brave so young. Need you to know that I love you, that I am so proud of you, and that Iâm sorry I wasnât there for you as much as I should have been.â Lee had never, ever, seen his dad cry. Christopher Hermann was always strong and firm. But here he was crying in front of his eldest son, exposing all of his vulnerable emotions to him. Cindy found them forty minutes later full-on bawling and clinging to each other as though their lives depended on it. Finally making peace with each other.

prompts! maybe âI wouldâve had breakfast ready, but you were sleeping on my arm, and I didnât want to wake you.â with maybe malum? it feels like a malum prompt to me
Maggie! I love this so much! @tirednotflirting wrote about a malum wedding last week and it made me think of this! I hope you enjoy it! (also shout out to @pushkinalexander who read it and then yelled at me for never showing her the 5sos dogs lol)
As always, its on ao3 too (https://archiveofourown.org/works/25958740)
Michael is peaceful when he sleeps. Itâs nice getting to watch him like this, face relaxed as he nuzzles into his pillow. He looks young and soft, burrowing into the warmth thatâs coming off of Calum. He reminds him of Moose like this, hair fluffy and soft, curled up with his head resting on Calumâs arm. Cal has lost the feeling in his arm about 20 minutes ago from where Michael has been laying on it, but he canât bear to tell Michael to move.
Cal doesnât want to wake Michael up. He looks so peaceful and this is probably the most sleep either of them have gotten in the last few weeks with the prep going on for Luke and Ashtonâs wedding. Theyâve been left in charge of all the last minute changes: the freak out Luke had when he realized his suit pants were too short, when Ashton had a meltdown over the flight for his mum, when Lauren and Harry got delayed and he thought it was going to ruin everything. There had been one moment when Luke had called Michael and Ashton had called Calum, the both of them freaking out about the wedding, the possibility that the other doesnât love him as much, that this whole thing is just a long joke waiting for the punchline. Theyâd been talked down and reassured that they already have almost 10 years of love between them and the wedding is just an extension of their love.Â
Helping them plan their wedding; ironing out the kinks, fixing the problems, had reminded Calum of how much he loves Michael. Heâs loved Michael since he was a kid and he loves him even more now, as his boyfriend, getting to watch Michael doing things like scrunch his nose up in his sleep like Moose does or when he yells at his video games or whines when heâs been awake for too long. Itâs sweet and wonderful and Calum wants to spend the rest of his life with Michael.
Michael peaks one eye open, looking up at Calum. Calum smiles down at him.
âMorning sweetheart.â
âWhat âime is it?â
âAlmost 8am.â
Michale groans, trying to burrow further back into the pillow. Moose perks up at the end of the bed, realizing that Michaelâs awake and excitedly makes her way up the bed to lick Michaelâs face. Michael half-heartedly tries to bat her away, giving up and scratching her head when she starts to lick him even harder, tail wagging.
âWhy do we have to be up so early?â
âThe weddingâs today. We gotta get up and eat something. God knows how long everything is gonna be and when weâll actually get to eat dinner.â
Michael looks at Calum, wide-eyed and confused. âYou mean Iâm awake and there isnât even food yet?â
âI wouldâve had breakfast ready, but you were sleeping on my arm, and I didnât want to wake you.â
Michael whines, flopping onto his back and covering his eyes. Moose gives up her licking, snuggling down into the open space between Michael and Calum. Calum sits up, trying to shake feeling back into his arm.
âIf youâre not up in 10 minutes Iâm going to send Duke after you,â Calum says, getting up and scooping Duke up from where heâs been sitting at the end of the bed, head cocked to the side, watching them. Michael grumbles, waving his hand at Calum.
Calum sets Duke down once heâs made it to the kitchen, rummaging around to find something he can make that he knows Michael will like and will also stop him from getting hungry and cranky halfway through the ceremony. He sets about trying to make eggs and the tea that Michaelâs taken to drink instead of coffee. He gives Michael 5 minutes before he sends Duke in to wake Michael up. He hears a shout from the bedroom and Michael stumbles into the kitchen mumbling that heâs up. Moose and Southy follow closely behind him, barking for breakfast.Â
Michael comes up behind Cal, dropping his head down into Calumâs shoulder, and wrapping his arms around Calâs waist.
âDo you think Luke and Ashton will let me out of the wedding if I tell them I donât feel good?â
âI think Luke would have a meltdown in the middle of the room and Ashton would immediately hunt you down and drag you to the wedding if you made Luke cry.â
âCanât I go back to sleep? Itâs not even 9am. Why do I have to be up so early?â
âWe have a whole day ahead of us. We have to run interference on the set-up. Besides, if you had gone to sleep at a reasonable time instead of playing games all night you wouldnât be so tired.â
Michael huffs lightly, burying his face into Calumâs neck, and pressing a gentle kiss to Calâs shoulder. Calum tries to turn his head slightly to press a kiss to the top of Michaelâs head and is only vaguely succeeding. Calum can feel Michael smile anyway where his face is still pressed to Calumâs skin.
Standing like this, curled up in each other and making breakfast, Calum is struck by how domestic it all feels. Heâs been doing this with Michael for years ever since the guys moved from London to LA and bought separate places, but it strikes him in that moment how at home he feels doing this. Making breakfast for Michael while he whines about being up so early, getting ready to go see Luke and Ashton. Calum has never felt more comfortable or at peace than he does right now.
âHey, Mikey?â
âHmm?â
âHave you ever thought about getting married?â
Michael lifts his head to look at Calum, âYou mean as a concept or as in âdo I think about us getting marriedâ?â Because my answer depends on the question,â
Calum frowns. Surely, Michael and he are on the same page. Theyâve been together since they were fifteen and realized that âjust friendsâ donât have thoughts about kissing their friends and holding their hand (although 5sos may be unique. Lukeâs been holding all of their hands since long before he and Ashton started doing it. He still does it, whining until someone grabs his hand and squeezes it). Calumâs thought about marrying Michael vaguely over the years, but theyâd all been too busy between tours and albums to really talk about it. Now, theyâre on a break between WWJ and releasing CALM. Itâs the perfect time for them to sit down and talk about their future. Calum wants to get married. Wants to be able to wear a ring and show everyone that Michael is his and he is Michaelâs. Get to gush about him in interviews and on stage. Get to kiss him in public. Calum thought Michael wanted that too, but now heâs unsure.
âYouâre doing it again Cal.â
âDoing what?â
âOverthinking it. Youâre doing that thing you do where you take my words and over analyze them until youâve created the idea of what you think they are instead of just asking me. So, ask me the question properly this time.â
Calum takes a deep breath, âHave you, Michael Clifford, thought about marriage or marrying me?â
Michael smiles softly, âOf course I have, darling. As a concept, I think marriage is silly and the whole point of it is to have an excuse to throw a party and spend money and you shouldnât need something big and flashy to tell your family and friends how much you love another person,â Calumâs heart sinks, âBut marrying you? Iâd do it tomorrow if youâd let me. I want to get up there and tell everyone how much you mean to me. That I want to spend the rest of my life with you, making you smile. I want you to get me up far too early in the morning and drink your too strong tea. I want to keep making music with you and writing songs about you and getting to stand on stage every night and tell everyone how much I love you. I want to have a wedding thatâll be better than Luke and Ashtonâs because they donât get to be cuter than us, weâve been together longer. I want to get up there in front of everyone we know and tell them I want to spend everyday with you because youâre like another half of my soul and I canât live without you. So yes, Calum Hood, I have thought about marrying you and I would love to do that.â
Calum turns back to the stove, blushing slightly. Michael always seems to know exactly what Calumâs thinking, what heâs feeling. It really does feel like theyâre half of each other's souls. Calum is never alone if heâs got Michael there, telling him what sounds best in a song or what they should eat for dinner or what movie they should watch. Heâs always had Michael, will always have Michael, but the idea of getting to publicly say it, to tell everyone how he feels, is overwhelming and comforting.Â
âHave you thought about marrying me?â Michael asks.
Calum pauses, âEvery day since the first time we kissed Iâve thought about marrying you and what it would be like. I want to get up there and give a cheesy speech about how you mean the world to me, so that our moms will cry. I want to tell the whole world every night on stage about how youâre the love of my life. I want to listen to you play your games and yell at Luke when he makes you lose and get to wake up next to you all the time. I canât imagine it would change our lives that much, but I want to do it. I want to get married.â
âDid you just propose to me?âÂ
âHavenât asked the question yet. I donât even have a ring.â Thatâs a lie. Calum has had a ring since Ashton asked him to go ring shopping for Luke. Itâs hidden inside one of the cases for Calumâs bass, where he knows Michael wonât go poking around. He even has a vague idea of how he wants to propose. Heâs just waiting for their anniversary to roll around.
Michael hums lightly into Calumâs shoulder. âHow long do you think we have to wait after the wedding to get engaged so Luke wonât say we did it on purpose to take away the spotlight?â
âWell, if I tell you it wonât be a surprise, now will it?â Calum says, smiling when Michael whines in response. âBesides I have to come up with something romantic to do. You said you didnât want Luke and Ashton to be cuter than us. Now come on, the foodâs ready and we have to start getting dressed.â
Calum manages to get Michael to eat something, to feed the dogs, and get them out the door with enough time to get to the wedding. It manages to go off without any issues and it isnât until later, while Michael and Calum are sitting watching the first dance, that Michael leans over and says, âYou know, if we have the dogs be the ring bearers weâd already win for cuter wedding.â
Calum huffs out a laugh and kisses Michael softly. âOnly if you let Moose be the flower girl.â

So I got like all of three people interested but that's abt all the prompting I need anyway đ

So. Yeah. Chosen Ones. The Call of Destiny, the Call to Adventure.
Pretty much every Chosen One gets it, that's how you know they're Chosen Ones (ok granted there are chosen ones who first sorta accidentally end up involved in an adventure and only later on discover it was their Destiny all along. But that's not what I'm talking about here). Usually it comes either in the form of someone really just handing them a sword and telling them they gotta do stuff. Sometimes it's a bit more complicated. In Heralds of Valdemar books it typically involves a white magic horse walking up to the main character, introdicing themself, and saying they Choose the main character. Or possibly tricking their Chosen into getting on their back and then getting them into a situation where they can't really just say no. But yeah, in general, it's very hard to say no to an intelligent magic horse that really, really wants you to do something, when an unbreakable bond of love and trust is born almost from the moment you first look into the horse's eyes.
Either way, the Chosen Ones fairly often refuse their Destiny at first. Not always, and with some heroes it might work better with them accepting it right away, but fairly often, probably more often than not but I can't say for sure, they try to refuse it at first.
Why, in-universe, do they refuse? The common reasons are all more or less selfless; fear, feeling that they're not good enough and someone else would do it better, or some conflicting obligation they wish to fulfill first. The conflicting obligation is somewhat rarer than the other two, but not unheard of; for example Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope refuses at first to go with Obi-Wan to Alderaan not because he doesn't want to, but because he feels Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru need his help around the farm and he should not leave them, no matter how much he wants to become a pilot or something instead.
Now, I admit, you could call fear or feeling of not being good enough selfish reasons, but for this I feel they're at least somewhat selfless. Because when the Thing they gotta do requires a Chosen One, it's automatically very important. The fate of the entire world may be at stake. So fear and feeling they're not good enough are reasons based on acknowledging the importance of the task they're given and how bad things would go should they fail, and not wanting to fail. On the other hand, what I mean here when I say "selfish", is indifference to the task they're given, refusal either because they don't feel like it or because it would require giving up something they don't want to give up.
But what about refusing for a completely selfish reason? That's a lot more rare. Of course the reason probably is that it may be more difficult to make the hero change their mind, and it also portrays them in a far less pretty and perfect light than the aforementioned reasons.
In fact, there's only one work of fiction I can recall right now that has the hero refuse for a reason that can only be called selfish. There are certainly more out there, no work of fiction is that unique, but that's the only one that comes to mind right now.
That work is a show called Robin of Sherwood. Now, the show doesn't have much of a fandom, so I'll give a brief summary of it here. Robin of Sherwood was a British fantasy tv show that ran for three seasons in 1984-1986. The show was based on Robin Hood, but there were fantasy elements added into it that do not exist in traditional versions of Robin Hood.
One of those fantasy elements was that Robin was Herne's Son, a Chosen One of the pagan god/forest spirit Herne the Hunter. This decision turned out to work for the show makers' favor when the original actor of Robin left the show, as it allowed them to kill of the previous Robin and have Herne choose a new Son. As a result, the show has two rather different characters both doing the part of Robin Hood, stealing from the rich, inconveniencing Prince/King John, annoying the hell out of the Sheriff of Nottingham, and fighting for the poor and oppressed people.
Now the first Robin, Robin of Loxley, being Chosen goes fairly traditionally; he's slightly hesistant about accepting the call but does so fairly quickly anyway. By the time his home is destroyed and his adoptive parents murdered, he's already accepted his Destiny and ready and willing to do Herne's bidding. I'll return to him later, but first I want to get to the point and bring up the second Robin.
The second Robin is actually called Robert of Huntingdon, and he is a nobleman of a powerful and high-ranking family; he's the son and heir of the Earl of Huntingdon, and nephew of the King of Scotland. Herne chooses him immediately after the first Robin dies, perhaps even a little sooner given how quickly he's able to go to the outlaws' rescue. When Herne chooses him, he does agree to help a little; he saves the captured outlaws who would otherwise have been executed. But that is something he can do quickly, with little risk to himself. When it comes down to it, he still refuses to truly become Herne's Son.
And there's no fear or humility or claims of not being good enough behind him not refusing. One might argue that being the heir of the Earl of Huntingdon means conflicting loyalties/obligations, but the show does not frame his choice in a way that seems to make it about that. What he says to Herne when refusing is more or less "The outlaws are safe, I've done enough, I'm not doing anything more for you." He refuses simply because he's not interested in the job, and though it's not stated aloud, possibly also because accepting that destiny would be giving up all the comfort and priviledges he has and exchanging them for a very hard and dangerous life as an outlaw.
His eventual acceptance of the Call is because of equally selfish reasons; he meets Marion at a party and decides she's hot. When she's abducted soon afterwards, he decides to go to the rescue, and as his father would not accept the attempt, he goes to get help from Herne and gathers up those Outlaws he can find to aid him in her rescue. Granted, his reasons for rescuing Marion are not solely "she hot". There's arguably also general outrage at her being abducted and forced into marrying like that, as well as guilt over having endangered her by defending her earlier in the party from the person who eventually abducted her, and I think he would feel those things even had the abducted person been someone he didn't find attractive. But I feel like him liking her and wanting to be together with her also played a major part, and it may be that without that he would not have had strong enough feelings about the matter to go to her rescue (or at least he would not have gone so quickly and rashly, but instead taken his time considering whether it was worth it or not, and planning and preparing). I think that only after accepting his destiny, Robert starts truly caring about the things he as Herne's Son fights for strongly enough to actually fight for them.
And it works. It works, I dare say, better than any othrr reason for refusal. Robert has lived a very priviledged life, and the reasons Robin Hood fights are... not really matters that would ever have affected his life. He has little to fear from the nobility, as he is one of them. He hasn't faced oppression. He hasn't experienced poverty. He hasn't had to choose between stealing or poaching and starving. He may well have at some point noticed it happens, maybe felt somewhat bad about it, but they are not matters that would intimately concern him.
So why would he even give up all his priviledges, all the ease and comfort of his life, to fight for things that would never concern him if he stays a nobleman? A hero who cares that deeply would of course be admirable, but let's be real. Damn few people in real life would be willing to give up that much. Good people living priviledged lives might sacrifice a bit, do things that slightly inconvenience them or take a little away from what they have, but giving up absolutely everything? I don't think many people would. And honestly, taking that into account, having Robert refuse simply because he does not want that kind of life adds more depth to the character than a more traditional refusal would have had. It makes him seem less of an impossibly perfect hero, but all things considered, it does not make him seem too terribly selfish to ever be a hero, either.
In comparison, for Robin of Loxely in RoS the quick unquestioning acceptance of his new position works perfectly. He's already an outlaw when he first meets Herne; he has nothing to lose by agreeing. He's lived his entire life witnessing the immediate effects of oppression all around him, so the fight is instantly personal to him even before he starts fighting it for Herne.
So, yeah. I guess my point here, if I have any, is that different characters should respond differently to becoming the Chosen One, and if you write that kind of stories, it will be worth it to consider whether one of the stock responses works well (because it definitely might!) or whether you should think outside the most common ones for a bit.

The Rise of Skywalker Review
Well, I actually went to see it! I wasnât sure that I would, but Iâm honestly glad, because now iâve got thoughts.
The first twenty minutes or so seemed really slapdash and disjointed, like they wanted to set up things for later but didnât want to take the time to set them up well. Everything was really rushed and shallow for that period.
But! This movie had a lot of poe-rey-finn interactions which I enjoyed deeply. Rey and Poe sniping at each other, Finn and Rey being adorably close and caring, Finn and Poe being adorably close and caring. They feel like theyâve actually spent time together! Excellent.
Leiaâs scenes felt a little weird, like they were shoehorned in, but i still miss her so Iâm kinda glad for her presence anyway. Having her train Rey, pick up where Luke left off and push her to the finish line, makes me delighted. Yes, Leia is force sensitive!! She trained with her brother!! She knows how to pass on what she learned!!! She built a lightsaber!!!!!! excellent. (sidenote her lightsaber was sick. i loved it. i want one)
I also liked how we got to see some diverse planets and terrain. did they do their best on that front? no. would have loved to see some more weird-ass alien planets, or even weird-ass terrain that actually exists in the real world, but theyâre deathly afraid of being like the prequels, soooo.
The whole thing with the âsith daggerâ and C-3P0â˛s memory was a shit storyline. Hereâs a magic item that will do everything we need! Give you the location of your navigator thing!! Magically fit against the skyline of the wreck of the deathstar, even though itâs an ancient artifact and the deathstar is constantly battered by incredibly powerful waves on an alien planet! ugh. dumb.
If that droid from the old shipwreck was gonna have that knwoeldge the whole time,,,,,,, why not just let Rey befriend the droid,,,,,,,,instead of doing a âpsych! gotcha!â with C-3P0â˛s memory.Â
JJ Abrams being afraid to give real consequences to the new trioâs actions was shit. Let them kill Chewie! Let them essentially kill C-3P0! Or leave it out of the equation entirely!!! These fake-outs cheapen emotional responses and motivations of the heroes of our story.
and hey, speaking of cheapening shit, why the ever-loving FUCK did they bring Palpatine back. why. I hate that. I hated that SO MUCH IT WAS SO DUMB. SO. DUMB. so darth vader redeemed and sacrificed himself over nothing, huh?? Anakin Skywalker, dumb bitch to the end, couldnât even die right, because palpatine was fucking alive the whole time. fuccking hell. any hey, guess what?? Jedi can force-heal people, too! ha ha ha hahahahaha ha h h a stupid anakin for believing palpatine had unique force powers and turning to the dark side, when really, it was a light-side power all along!!! (kill me)
(side note: healing being a power of the light and not the dark is thematically better, but uh. see petty retconning below)
Making Rey his granddaughter is inarguably worse than having her be a true nobody, which was my number one pick. I might even have been fine with it if she discovered it on her own!! But noooo, we need to have Kylo Ren and Luke tell her who she is. Oh yeah, they knew who she was the whole time, lol! Isnât that cute, stupid women having to be told who they are and what their legacy is.Â
Which also makes her previous conversation with Kylo in TLJ cheap too! Look, I get it, we all hated TLJ, and Rian Johnsonâs choices. But...having Kylo tell Rey who she is twice, in two separate movies, and tell her two separate things each time, and have it be played straight both times, is just. so. dumb. petty retconning of other peopleâs work is kind of disgusting.
That being said, in this movie I didnât feel like Reyâs storyline was about anyone but her. I mean, palpatine elements for sure, but except for being told whose granddaughter she was, she was basically in control of her own destiny. I liked that a lot.
Reyâs fight with Kylo on the wreck of the death star? *chefâs kiss*. Amazing. Incredible. Lightsaber duels have gotten so much better and I love them. somewhere inside me my five-year old self is screaming for joy and picking up her toy lighsabers. Ridley and Driver have, unfortunately, very good chemistry in their scenes together, and the tension while they fought was so good.Â
Poe as a former drug dealer makes me tired. Poe Dameron, who idolizes Leia and had rebellion pilots for parents, was a drug dealer?? You kidding me?? ugh.
Also, if iâm being petty, I hated the way force ghosts could interact with reality.Â
Lando Calrissian!! Lando I love you. I love you so much. The idea of all those people coming to the Resistanceâs aid is pretty cool tbh, and I liked it. I liked Lando playing ambassador and politician for the resistance.Â
I absolutely hated the ââplanet-killing-cannonââ palpatineâs fleet had. These fucking, fan-pandering morons just cannot let the idea of a planet-killer go, can they? Itâs not like a shit ton of ships, the biggest fleet in the galaxy, able to blockade hyper-space lanes and entire planets, would be a good enough threat, oh no. audiences arenât smart enough to respond to something that complicated, so we need to make it SUPER OBVIOUS, just like in TLJ. âthe death star but bigger/portableâ is dumb.
Finn finding other defectors was so fucking cool, I love that for him. Also, like, Im pretty sure they were all force-sensitive like he is, which I think is amazing. Confirming Finnâs force sensitivity was the best decision they made in this movie, tbh.Â
The driving problem of this movie was, in my opinion, the exec and creative teams being unable to stick to their guns with Kylo Ren as the big villian. Twice, people reached out to him for redemption: his father in TFA, and rey in TLJ. Twice, he rejected that offer, and ascended to Supreme Leader.
But instead of letting him do that, they instead turned him back to the light for little to no discernible reason. What, his mother dying finally pushed him over the edge?? You kidding me???? He LITERALLY murdered his father in cold blood. i call bullshit.Â
And because they couldnât let kylo be the main villian, they also had to bring back palpatine. Look man, Adam Driver abso-fuckin-lutely has the chops to be a big bad. Heâs really good at his job, actually, and I believe he could carry the weight of being the scary leader and face of the dark side. But no, yâall are chicken.
I mean, even though I hated him turning back, driver-as-ben-solo was fucking lit. He was so good for those, what two minutes?? The tension during his rush to Rey??? Him fucking with the KNights of Ren?? His switcheroo with Rey, the way he nods and bows a little when the Knights all step back, knowing theyâre about to get their asses kicked?? Oh my god! It was so fun to watch. You could tell, even from that much, heâs a cocky little shit, and would have been so fun to watch for three movies instead of three minutes.
Their kiss at the end when he dies?? boo, hiss, no thank you. Not a fan. Iâll concede their chemistry as actors, but that was not romantic chemistry between their characters. nuh-uh no way no how. gross.
Overall, like a 5/10. Wildly inconsistent. I really liked some parts, and enjoyed other parts out of context, and really hated other parts.Â
psâ me, watching the ot3 hug Like Thatâ˘: NOW KISS.

17th September >> Fr. Martinâs Gospel Reflections / Homilies on Luke 7:36-50 for Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time: âYour faith has saved yourâ.
Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel (Europe, Africa, New Zealand, Australia & Canada)
Luke 7:36-50
Her many sins have been forgiven, or she would not have shown such great love
One of the Pharisees invited Jesus to a meal. When he arrived at the Phariseeâs house and took his place at table, a woman came in, who had a bad name in the town. She had heard he was dining with the Pharisee and had brought with her an alabaster jar of ointment. She waited behind him at his feet, weeping, and her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them away with her hair; then she covered his feet with kisses and anointed them with the ointment.
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, âIf this man were a prophet, he would know who this woman is that is touching him and what a bad name she has.â Then Jesus took him up and said, âSimon, I have something to say to you.â âSpeak, Masterâ was the reply. âThere was once a creditor who had two men in his debt; one owed him five hundred denarii, the other fifty. They were unable to pay, so he pardoned them both. Which of them will love him more?â âThe one who was pardoned more, I supposeâ answered Simon. Jesus said, âYou are right.â
Then he turned to the woman. âSimon,â he said âyou see this woman? I came into your house, and you poured no water over my feet, but she has poured out her tears over my feet and wiped them away with her hair. You gave me no kiss, but she has been covering my feet with kisses ever since I came in. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. For this reason I tell you that her sins, her many sins, must have been forgiven her, or she would not have shown such great love. It is the man who is forgiven little who shows little love.â Then he said to her, âYour sins are forgiven.â Those who were with him at table began to say to themselves, âWho is this man, that he even forgives sins?â But he said to the woman, âYour faith has saved you; go in peace.â
Gospel (USA)
Luke 7:36-50
Her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love.
A certain Pharisee invited Jesus to dine with him, and he entered the Phariseeâs house and reclined at table. Now there was a sinful woman in the city who learned that he was at table in the house of the Pharisee. Bringing an alabaster flask of ointment, she stood behind him at his feet weeping and began to bathe his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and anointed them with the ointment. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this he said to himself, âIf this man were a prophet, he would know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.â Jesus said to him in reply, âSimon, I have something to say to you.â âTell me, teacher,â he said. âTwo people were in debt to a certain creditor; one owed five hundred daysâ wages and the other owed fifty. Since they were unable to repay the debt, he forgave it for both. Which of them will love him more?â Simon said in reply, âThe one, I suppose, whose larger debt was forgiven.â He said to him, âYou have judged rightly.â Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, âDo you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet, but she has bathed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but she has not ceased kissing my feet since the time I entered. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with ointment. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.â He said to her, âYour sins are forgiven.â The others at table said to themselves, âWho is this who even forgives sins?â But he said to the woman, âYour faith has saved you; go in peace.â
Reflections (8)
(i) Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
It is hard for us today to imagine just how unconventional and scandalous the scene in todayâs gospel reading would have been considered at the time. Jesus is the guest at the table of a Pharisee. Suddenly a woman barges in, who had a bad reputation in the town, and proceeds to weep uncontrollably, washing Jesusâ feet with her tears, and then, more outlandish still, she proceeds to cover his feet with kisses and to dry his feet with her lose hair. Then, to top it all off, she anoints his feet with perfumed ointment. The dignified, restrained, and, it seems somewhat standoffish, atmosphere that the Pharisee had created was totally shattered. He begins to doubt that Jesus could be a prophet, a man of God, for allowing a woman, especially one like her, to relate to him in this very physical and intimate way. Jesus defends the woman and her actions, as he often defends people in the gospels against the disdain of others. He recognized her actions as an outpouring of love and gratitude for a gift she had earlier received from Jesus, the gift of Godâs loving mercy. As Jesus says to his host, âHer many sins must have been forgiven her or she would not have shown such great loveâ. Paul speaks out of a similar experience of Godâs merciful and gracious love in todayâs first reading, âI hardly deserve the name apostle; but by Godâs grace that is what I am, and the grace he gave me has not been fruitlessâ. Paulâs extravagant and often unconventional ministry was an outpouring of love and gratitude to the Lord for the gift of his merciful love towards him, the former persecutor of the church. Both the nameless woman and Paul show us that allowing ourselves to be touched by Godâs gracious and merciful love comes before all else. From this experience will flow lives of loving gratitude that can often seem unconventional to others.

(ii)Â Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
There is a very strong contrast in this morningâs gospel reading between how Simon the Pharisees, Jesusâ host, relates to him and how an uninvited guest, a woman with a reputation as a sinner, relates to him. Simon relates to Jesus in a cold, somewhat distant, way, omitting the usual expressions of hospitality in that culture, the washing of the guestsâ feet, the welcome kiss. The woman supplied all these expressions of hospitality to an extravagant degree, washing his feet with her tears, wiping them with her hair and covering them with kisses. The little parable that Jesus speaks to Simon about the two debtors explains the vast gulf between the womanâs response to Jesus and Simonâs response. The woman loves much because she has been forgiven much; she had earlier received the gift of Godâs forgiveness from Jesus. Simon loves little because he has been forgiven little; he has little or no sense of his need of forgiveness. The gospel reading suggests that we give out of what we have received. If we allow ourselves to be touched by Godâs forgiving love, present in Jesus, then we will be loving people. If we think of ourselves as better than we are and do not come before the Lord in our poverty, asking his mercy, then our lives will not display that joyful and generous love that so characterized the life of Jesus himself. If it is in giving to others that we receive, it is equally true that it is in receiving from the Lord that we are empowered to give.

(iii) Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Most of us would not call in on a meal unless we had been invited to it. However, the woman in this morningâs gospel reading breaks in on a meal without having been invited to it. She did so because she wanted to perform a service for Jesus, a service of hospitality and love. Although she was not an invited guest she showed Jesus the hospitality that his host should have shown him but failed to show him. She gave Jesus this extravagant service out of a sense of deep gratitude to Jesus for what she had already received from him. She had already experienced Godâs forgiving love in and through Jesus, and such was her gratitude for this gift of love that she wanted to offer love in return. The woman serves as an image of all our lives as followers of Jesus. Like her, we too have received great graces from the Lord, as Saint John says in the first chapter of his gospel, âfrom his fullness we have all received, grace upon graceâ. Like her, this sense of having been abundantly graced by the Lord moves us to make a return to the Lord. Having experienced the Lordâs great love for us, his merciful love, we are moved to show him our love in return. We are inspired to serve him as he has served us. The woman in the gospel reading shows us both how to receive from the Lord and how to give to him in return, in thanksgiving.

(iv) Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
The gospel reading we have just heard is only to be found in Lukeâs gospel. It is one of many striking passages that are unique to that gospel. The passage has three characters, Jesus, the woman and Simon the Pharisee. The woman performs an extraordinary act of loving service for Jesus and Jesus graciously accepts her generous gift. Simon, the Pharisee judges both the woman and Jesus, judging the woman to be a sinner and Jesus for allowing himself to be ministered to by such a person. The love of the woman for Jesus and the love of Jesus for the woman stand over against the judging attitude of Simon which is directed at both of them. Jesusâ love for the woman, his merciful, forgiving love, inspired the womanâs expression of love for Jesus. Her extravagant gestures were an act of loving gratitude for the assurance of Godâs love which Jesus had earlier given to her. She models for us what it is to be a disciple of Jesus. Like her we come before the Lord in our poverty and we open ourselves to the Lordâs loving mercy, and having been deeply touched by his love we are moved to give ourselves generously and freely to his service. Love received bears fruit in love given. The woman, with whom we are asked to identify, stands over against Simon who could neither receive the Lordâs love nor give it to others.
And/Or
(v) Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
The story that we have just heard in this morningâs gospel reading puts before us a study in contrast. Jesus is at table as the guest of a Pharisee, but his host neglects to show him the normal signs of hospitality in that culture. Although the Pharisee has invited Jesus to his table, his way of receiving Jesus shows great reserve. In contrast, a woman, who had a reputation as a sinner, gate crashes the meal and showers hospitality on Jesus in the most extravagant way imaginable. The one who would have been expected to show hospitality to Jesus doesnât really show it. The outsider whom people would have written off more than makes up for the hospitality Jesus was denied. How explain the difference? Jesus gives his own explanation. The woman had experienced through Jesus the gift of Godâs forgiveness; her gestures were an outpouring of gratitude for that gift. The Pharisee had no sense of his need to receive Godâs forgiveness from Jesus. He had no sense that he owed Jesus anything. The story invites us to ask ourselves, âWho do we stand with, the Pharisee or the woman?â When we know ourselves to be forgiven sinners we are more likely to respond to Jesus in the way the woman did. At the source of our lives as followers of Jesus is the experience of Godâs forgiveness in Jesus, Godâs unconditional love through Jesus. Our lives then become a grateful, spontaneous response to that grace we have received. Like the woman, we give generously to the Lord, not out of duty but out of loving gratitude for all we have received, knowing, in the words of Paul in our first reading, âthe grace that God gave me has not been fruitlessâ.
And/Or
(vi) Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
There are three characters in the story we have just heard, Simon who hosted the meal, Jesus his guest, and a woman whom no one expected to turn up. We discover as we read through the story that Simon the host failed to show Jesus the usual signs of hospitality that would have been expected in that culture, a basin of water for the guest to wash his feet, a welcome kiss, an anointing of the head with oil. It was the uninvited guest, the woman whom Simon considered a sinner, who showed Jesus all these signs of hospitality in the most extravagant way imaginable. She behaved as the host should have behaved. She showed Jesus a love that the host had failed to show him. The little parable about the two debtors that Jesus speaks in the middle of the story explains why she showed Jesus more love than Simon had showed. She loved more because she had been forgiven more. Prior to this meal she had experienced the forgiveness of Jesus, the forgiveness of God in Jesus, and that had a transforming effect on her. Her experience of this gift of divine love made her a loving person. Simon, in contrast, had not experienced Godâs forgiving love through Jesus, probably because he had no sense of his need for it. Hence, he comes across as cold, distant, unloving. The story suggests that we are all equally in need of the Lordâs forgiveness and to the extent that we recognize our need of the Lordâs forgiveness and are open to receive it we will become loving people.

(vii) Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Paul makes a very strong statement in todayâs first reading, âby Godâs grace, this is what I amâ, namely an apostle. He was very aware that his transformation from a persecutor of the church to the primary apostle to the Gentiles was not his own doing. It was the risen Lordâs gracious initiative towards him which made this transformation possible. All his work as an apostle was his grateful response to the Lordâs gracious love towards him. In the gospel reading, the woman who breaks in upon a meal at which Jesus was guest was also aware that the transformation that had taken place in her life was not her own doing. It was the result of the Jesusâs gracious love towards her, unconditionally communicating Godâs forgiveness to her. Her extravagant gesture of washing the Lordâs feet with her tears and drying them with her hair was her grateful response to the Lordâs gracious love towards her. Both Paul and the woman acted out of gratitude to the Lord for what they recognized was an undeserved gift. Both of these people show us the shape of our own lives as followers of Jesus. Like them, we too have been greatly graced by the Lord. He lived, died and rose again for us; he has poured the Holy Spirit in our hearts and continues to do so. He offers himself to us as Bread of Life in the Eucharist. He does all this out of love for us, without asking us to earn or deserve these gifts, this gift of himself. Our lives are to be one great act of thanksgiving to the Lord who has abundantly graced us. Like Paul and the woman, we give ourselves to the Lord in love because we want to show appreciation for all the ways he has graced us.

(viii) Thursday, Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
At the end of todayâs gospel reading, Jesus says that it is the one who is forgiven little who shows little love. The woman who had broken into the meal at which Jesus was a guest had been forgiven much. She had earlier experienced Godâs forgiving and unconditional love towards her through the person of Jesus. Having been forgiven much, she loved much. Her outpouring of loving gratitude to Jesus was lavish in the extreme. In contrast, Jesusâ host, a Pharisee, had been forgiven little, in the sense that he had no awareness of his need for the forgiveness of God that Jesus had come to offer. Having been forgiven little, he loved little, denying Jesus even the ordinary rituals of hospitality, no basin of water for Jesus to wash his feet, no kiss of greeting, no anointing of his head with oil. The womanâs loving gestures more than compensated for the Phariseeâs lack of love. The story reminds us that receiving comes before giving. The woman recognized that she had received much from God through Jesus and, so, she gave much to Jesus in return. The Pharisee had received nothing from God through Jesus and, so, he gave nothing to Jesus in return. We always come before the Lord as beggars, open to receive all those graces that only he can give, including the grace of Godâs forgiveness for our sins and failings. It is in learning to receive from the Lord in our poverty, like the woman, that we are empowered to give generously in gratitude for what we have been given.

Ok uhhh claia, lukemaryse and malec superhero au headcanons
first of all, id just like to say that i love this new trend of u guys sending me really vague prompts and giving me complete creative freedom to do whatever i want with them. i think it really shows that u trust me to create good, interesting content, and that means a lot to me. second of all, that trust is entirely misplaced. why would you ever think that id make something good. have you met me. what im trying to say here is basically: this is your own fault
behold:
In a world where everyone has a superpower, the world is bound to work a little different. No one knows what determines people's superpowers; some are fairly common (like teleportation, which led to a lot of ppl working as cabs, taking ppl to and from wherever they need) and others are unique and particularly powerful (and also dangerous, which is why particularly powerful people are part of an elite squad dedicated to keep the world safe; our very own superheroes)
Alec's superpower is definitely unique: he can sense trash. That's it. Hes just going around, living his life, sensing trash. He knows when people are littering. He can sense it from a pretty far away distance. Everywhere he goes, he knows where all the trash cans are. His life is just. Him and the trash, everywhere, haunting him
No one's ever heard of this before. Alec's mom, maryse, can bend all four elements, and is part of the Elite Squad; so is his father, although he retired from action and works behind a desk now. His sister izzy has superspeed and was trained to perfect combat in the hopes she would follow their footsteps, but ultimately decided to give it up and become a biologist instead. And Alec. Can sense trash
This was the source of a lot of Family Drama, since alec's parents were pretty strict and held their position as elite superheroes with pride, expecting nothing less from their children. But after many years of trying and failing to somehow make up for it, Alec decided to say fuck them and fully embraced who he is, refusing to live in apology. Once he finally left their house to live on his own, maryse realised he meant wanting to cut them off his life for real, and came around. Robert's lack of understanding was one of the factors that led to their divorce
Alec became an architect and works to build better and efficient waste collection systems in the country. Due to his power, he knows which places need the most infrastructure investment, as well as the problems that lead to the littering. He also knows which companies are illegally discarding their waste and how, the exact effects of that on the environment, and a lot of stuff that would otherwise only be possible through extensive research. He is an activist for both a better public, free, universal waste removal system, and stricter regulations on companies that profit from environmental destruction.
And the thing is, he likes this life. He's passionate about it. Everyday at work he gets to do a little something to make the world better and fight against injustice and use his place of privilege that comes from his education and his so-called "useless" superpower for change. He wouldn't trade it for the world and he's really passionate about what he does, even if it does take up most of his time
So when his mom comes in one day saying that a new villain named Trash Man is going around and killing people and they need his help to track him, Alec is not. amused.
First of all: Trash Man? come on
But he kind of has no choice, since this is top priority at the moment and the very ministery of security is calling him or something - every citizen is required to register their powers so they know exactly when they're needed
So he goes, and for the first time, he meets the rest of his mom's Top Secret team; first of all, there's the leader, Luke: his power is persuasion and hes very good at de-escalating events to guarantee minimal damage and better solutions, making him the most valuable asset of the team. Then there's Maryse, and under them, a team of relatively young, but very powerful, heroes: maia, a shapeshifter; clary, who can summon weapons and is very good at Stabbing; and Magnus, who can bend time and space
Magnus is also kind of the Group Genius; his power also got him an special interest in physics and chemistry, meaning that he is not only able to use his power intelligently and creatively, but effectively enhance it; he's also very good with tech and responsible for a lot of their non-power-related assets. Honestly, he likes that part way better than the crime-fighting blah blah blah, but he kind of has no choice over what he does because he's an orphan and extremely powerful, meaning he's viewed as a threat by the government while simultaneously being dependant on them, and would pretty much have nowhere to turn to if he didnt start working for them
But really, he wants to be a scientist. He wants to do good things. He wants to create stuff that will make people's lives, and the world, better. He doesn't even believe in this whole "crime fighting" shit; he believes in a just world crime would be minimal and using their resources to fight bad guys instead of working on crime prevention is an absolute waste. But it's not like anybody asked for his opinion.
Alec and Magnus immediately hit it off; Alec was kind of tense at first because surely these guys would have the world's hugest chip on their shoulder, right? But instead everyone welcomes him, and Magnus kind of jokes that he envies him, which takes him by surprise
Because Maia and Clary are both Magnus' great friends as well, Alec also gets closer to them; Clary can be a little self-centered and annoying, but she's cool and Maia always calls her out on it. Maia is a fierce, amazing, smart girl and Alec can totally see why she and Magnus are so close, with their similar sense of humor, shared experiences (Maia is not an orphan but she ran away from home when she was pretty young), and gleaming, almost mischievous intelligence and talent. Alec can hold a conversation with them alright, since as an architect he needs quite some knowledge of physics and as an activist he can also hold pretty good and deep conversations with them about the system and its flawed, unjust logic; but there are some topics they get into that just kind of escalate and seem to get them in their own little world. Alec finds himself watching from the sidelines sometimes, and while he admires that - and doesnt miss the way clary will sometimes sit beside him and watch them as well, a small smile on her face that tells him everything he needs to know - he finds himself... a little upset by it, too
Not that he has a problem with them, but he finds himself wanting to feel like he belongs, and that's kind of- new. It's not like his life is a sad wet sock of loneliness or anything, he has his sister, he has some friends, but he's a private kind of guy and he finds himself more comfortable at the sidelines than the spotlight, except when it comes to his work, because hes good at that
It's just his luck, then, that Trash Man turns out to be really smart and hard to track due to [vague plot noises], giving him all the time he needs to, well, figure this out
So he spends more time with them, particularly Magnus. The both of them will sometimes sit talking for hours, and soon learn a lot about each other. Magnus listens, enraptured, whenever Alec goes on a passionate Trash Rant⢠and Alec is always in awe by Magnus' smart solutions. They begin some sort of camraderie that's also laced with Magnus' oh-so-smooth flirting, which started strong and eventually died out as Magnus began to realize he really liked Alec and his usual confidence and devil-may-care attitude vanished. But Alec mistakes this as Magnus losing interest or him seeing things. Cue lots of mutual pining
At least once Alec gets thrown through a wall by some villain; but, little did he know, it wasnt just a normal wall that he broke; it was the fourth wall. Alec looks straight into the reader's eyes, and goes: "I can sense trash. That's why, in this AU, i was never friends with jace". Then Magnus comes in and takes him back to the other side of the wall, and Alec blinks, confused, not remembering what had just happened. This is never mentioned again
Idk theres some gay shit in here, Alec introduces Magnus to Izzy and Magnus is absolutely in awe with her work. Izzy specializes in pollinators and works trying to restore the bee population and guarantee a more sustainable environment. Her work crosses with Alec's a surprising amount of times, and Magnus, who loves both animals and the incredible amount of knowledge her research requires, and they become super good friends almost immediately, which makes Alec very pleased.
More gay shit, Alec and Magnus decide to team up to try and get Clary and Maia together, only to be knocked sideways when they find out they're already dating. Maryse is like "do the four of you ever work" and Alec is hit with the realisation that his mom, too, kind of lives in the sidelines when it comes to things that arent work; luke seems to be kind of the mediator between her and the rest of the team, which is kind of sad. She does seem to have a good relationship with Luke, tho
Eventually they defeat Trash Man and Alec is no longer required to work for them and can go back to his trash activism; and when he does, so does Magnus, who is invited to work with izzy's team, which he gladly accepts
Somehow Alec confesses? And Magnus is in awe because he of course never expected Alec to like him back but. It turns out Alec is the most confident out of the two of them despite their exterior telling most people otherwise. And Magnus just says that yes he likes him back and will go out with him and they kiss passionately in the middle of the lab surrounded by bees but there are also flowers so theres that. And then they get married. I mean not right after but some years later
Magnus leaving inspires the rest of them, in some ways; Maia, Luke and Maryse start actually fighting to change the crime fighting policies to investment in crime prevention because new supervillains will always keep coming. The romantic tension between them finally snaps and they start going out. Maryse seems like such a different person now, more open and happier. Alec is pleased
They save the bees and the trash and the impending environmental apocalypse that looms over us is avoided idk that's all Ive got
Again this is your fault
