have we considered the chara parallels in undertale yellows neutral run? as in. how flowey is pissed that midway through the plan clover went back on it? how flowey probably said something that chara said in the moment frustrated? im ill.

OUDHUHGH YUUUP, we've (me, myself, and i) absolutely considered all that. and more!

but see, i personally never thought that was all there is to it. it would’ve been far too facile, much too pat, to assume chara had just... snapped at him in their final moments. that they’d cursed his name, branded him a traitor, made their hatred crystal clear.

oh, how delightfully clean that would’ve been for him. because then he’d get his closure, wouldn’t he? an answer, wrapped up all pretty just for him.

"i betrayed them. they loathed me for it. the end."

HA! too polished for my liking. no thanks. closure is reserved for those who can find resolution. and flowey, my son who's got everything wrong with him, has never been one to receive that kind of accord. he doesn't get straightforward, not then, not now, not ever.

in my head, flowey woke up in that garden with gaping holes in his memory of the incident. not total oblivion—never that generous. instead, it was bits and pieces. just enough to know. enough to understand that it was his fault. his frailty. his failure that brought him to this point.

but chara's last moments? their final utterance? those are lost to him. gone. TORN.

he never gets that confirmation. or, more precisely… he doesn’t remember. can’t remember. mwhahaha…

what does spring to mind, however, is the terror. the detestation that wracked their shared body. the oppressive shame that pervaded every step he didn't take. 

but then... at the time... who was feeling what exactly? who blazed with fury, and who broke beneath it? did someone beg? did someone weep? was it him? was it chara? who was hating whom in those parting moments? the harder he tries to remember, the further it slips away.

and because flowey's never met a void he didn’t try to fill, he does what he’s always excelled at. he patches the blanks. projects, narrates. 

his guilt demands a story, and so he obliges. in his version, every foul emotion, every drop of vitriol, was aimed squarely at him. how could it not have been?

chara MUST have surely thought he was an idiot. a weak, cowardly, sniveling idiot. a pathetic creature who couldn’t even get one plan right. couldn’t even die properly!

the self-blame constricts him like a vice, and with every reset, the narrative grows more discordant. he doesn’t just wonder if chara felt let down, he KNOWS they did. feels "their" revulsion rooted in his stem, their disappointment rotting his petals from the inside out with every cycle.

when clover comes along, he's elated. this is his shot at a fresh start. a second chance. the perfect subject for redemption, for forgiveness by proxy. his very own moment to fix everything, to prove that he’s changed. gone were the days when any plan was doomed with him around. this time, he was going to make it work. are you looking, chara?

but when clover hesitates... wavers the way he once did... flowey FREAKS.

he doesn’t see clover anymore. he sees HIM. he doesn’t hear his own voice, either. he hears the chara he’s created. the version that exists only in the cruel theater of his own mind. the variation that would never absolve him. that would never understand. that would only revile him.

the words he chucks at clover are the same accusations he believes chara would have spat at him, the same venom he’s already used to poison himself.

the words fall into insignificance, though, because much like the first time, the plan fell apart regardless of whether he condemned asriel clover or not.

all he was left with now was his certainty. chara HATED him.

and they were right to.

What is it that distinguishes general shipping culture from Thai-specific shipping culture? Because you mention Thai shipping culture a lot, and while I know there is a difference I can't seem to put into words what that difference is. I don't know if I'm making any sense, but like, under the umbrella of QL in Thailand, what part of it is culture and what part of it is marketing? Like the presenting of a "ship" as a "product" part.

Listen you... (Only because it's YOU asking... but be aware: You cannot pull this 'fave moot' card for the rest of our tumblr interactions. You had one shot! And you've now used it hehe)

So let's sort of break down the Thai QL marketing strategy, as you've put it: You have the 'production' and then you have the 'fandom/engagement' side of that production.

Production Marketing Branded Pairing - the production companies are going make a QL series and then present you with the leads as an easily 'shippable' pair. In Thailand, we refer to these ships as คู่จิ้น or 'imaginary couples' (จิ้น is pronounced as "jin" like imaGINE... cute no? hehe) These pairs are the product... the draw to attract viewers/fans. It's more common for branded pairs to stay working together once they've developed a comfortable relationship with one another. However, this can lead to some stagnancy within their working relationship and the types of roles they are offered. Companies like GMMtv, in my opinion, go a little overboard in this aspect. The logos and mascots are cute, but they're firmly cementing the fact that these pairs will never star opposite someone else in a BL production once they're established as a brand. It's very limiting for the actors involved and the fans who crave varied content... because at some point it all starts to feel very same. But again, that's just my feeling. It does work very well in some instances. And as long as production companies are gaining revenue, I don't really see that changing anytime soon.

Fanservice - the pairs' job is to sell the product: attract brand deals and increase fan engagement. The best way to do that for QL is to play up the fantasy (at a level that both individuals involved are comfortable with). They're going to pretend and have fun with their fans with a little back-and-forth. At this point in the conversation it's important to note that in the early days of fanservice, and even still, there was a lot of cultural nuance involved in order for businesses and potential viewers to be more accepting of mlm relationships which were heavily featured in the series that were being promoted. There's also discussion about whether or not the proco's allow their pairs any say in the level of fanservice they must perform. For the most part, it seems that they do... but that's not always the case.

Production Engagement Shipping - the viewers and fans are the 'consumers'. They essentially buy the 'product' the companies are selling, with both financial support and through their engagement. Now... in Thailand, as fans of these pairs, we are very aware of what is being sold to us. This is what I refer to as 'Thai shipping culture'. It's part of the 'game', for lack of a better word. We tease and we joke and we partake in the shipping... but at the end of the day, we know it's not real. Our support doesn't have any strings attached and isn't based in contingencies. We support the actors because we like the content they are providing for us. It's as simple as that. It's equal parts unfortunate and heartbreaking that this culture has been lost in newer fandom (from Thailand specifically). But it's important for interfans to understand, as well, that fanservice and shipping are not forms of queerbaiting. No one is trying to trick anybody... it's all very laid out in plain sight. And if you're buying too much into the fantasy, that's a YOU problem.

I don't really know how else to end this, other than to say what I always say, which is:

Please re-evaluate what it means to be a "fan" of someone. You are no more entitled to an artist's time or attention because you paid for it. You did that because you wanted to; you wanted to SUPPORT them. This doesn't give you any right to dictate their life; you cannot claim ownership over them. They are NOT your property. So if you truly "support" them, just let them be themselves...and love them all the more for it! The only thing misplaced anger/hate accomplishes is to create an environment where artists no longer feel comfortable interacting with their fans altogether, out of fear that every little thing they do or say will be misjudged.

Gonna probably be in the minority here but I'm kind of frustrated that an entire tier was dedicated to a fan favorite. Don't get me wrong, I really like Logan. So I'm not criticizing his character in any way. The idea of him having a reason to show up is fun.

That said, if it's not a huge plot point and a tacked on thing, I wish they'd just use spare money or treat it like a DLC thing rather than dedicate a whole tier to it. If we get to Logan but we don't get to height sliders or something else, that's disappointing. Things more suited for the next game installment, that affect what goes into its development, I feel like is more important.

That isn't to say Logan wouldn't enhance a story. But if he's just visiting and is a side note for Evershine, why not just have it be a side thing and not take up a full tier? I'm using Logan as an example here but there are also other things on the tier list that has me feeling the same. As much as I love my Sandrock builder, I'm a little confused why narratively she'd show up. From what I've heard, at least.

This doesn't diminish my excitement any, of course. I've just haven't been able to click in my head why these are dedicated tiers vs dedicating those tier goals to Evershine-specific content. I know Logan is a fan favorite, I like him a lot too and the wild arc of 'if we thirst hard enough a romance will be born' was great. But I also know there are plenty of people indifferent, lukewarm or whatever else to him. So dedicating a huge tier like that instead of dedicating the funds to Evershine's other romance options or any of the other goals that affect it nore specifically is making me feel hrrm.

Not to be a buzzkill. I'm aware it probably sounds like I'm butthurt or something but it ain't that deep. I'm just opting to ponder on it here outloud because I don't want to ruin the hype over on the subs or in discord servers. :')

hi friends!! i've been absent on here due to real life being a menace, but will be making my comeback soon. a couple important updates —

this is now back to being a mutuals only blog for my own peace of mind. i went thru my blogroll and did an unfollow cleanse, as i'll be mainly sticking with writers i have hella chemistry with and/or established ships + threads.

moving forward, i'm going to be much more selective about writing n.sfw content. i've found that i like to develop the roots of a ship before getting to that point. this doesn't mean i won't write it at all, but i adore writing out other aspects of a ship outside of s.mut (exceptions may be made depending on the plot). i'd also love to explore more familial/platonic dynamics, so if that's something you'd be into, pls let your girl know!!

There is more glitter than actual pasta and you can't see any of the page anymore, but the little is very pleased with himself and (until he's big again and has to try and wash glitter out of his hair and clothes) Rengoku calls it a success on his part

If your characters are pokemon gym leaders what pokemon and type would you assign them?

I'm not sure about specific Pokémon just because there's so many to choose from lol (I might come back later and pick some for them) and for types I'm mostly going off of aesthetic and vibes lol

Axel - Fairy, 100%. Maybe also water? He'd absolutely have a team of Pokémon he considers cute lol

Casey - Grass type, again I have no doubt about this

Cyril - I would say fire because he likes to threaten people with it but I'm kinda leaning toward ice for him

Desmond - If we're going really on the nose then I'd say dragon, but I'm gonna go with Steel. But he's got at least one dragon type on his team lol

Dion - Fire, clearly, but he'd have a team made up of different dual types

Duncan - I kinda feel like fighting would fit him, but I'm gonna go with rock just because he'd totally have a midday lycanroc lol

Ellis - Electric, and they'd go all out with the aesthetic too, I just know it

Gael - It's close between ghost and fairy, but I'm leaning a little more toward ghost. Maybe he's got a mimikyu on his team (I love mimikyu with all my heart)

Gage - If I were meaner I'd say normal lol, but I'll go with fighting

Jacob - He'd be a normal type gym, but every one of his Pokémon is normal/psychic (plus a ditto lol)

Maybe its just me being a GNC/nonbinary person, but I actually think it kinda sucks seeing people decide Kris is transfemme, when Kris is overtly expressed to be nonbinary and nongendered/androgynous. I think Tumblr in general has a shit awful time with nonbinary and GNC folks: foolishly deciding that androgyny is related to masculinity because of an absence of feminine-coded traits and markers. I don't see how taking a nonbinary person and deciding to put them in a binary gender role isn't inherently transphobic. That role being "trans" doesn't negate that- you're still forcibly applying a gender role YOU'VE decided is better to the character, rather than respecting their stated identity.

I'm glad that trans women and transfemmes can see elements of their experiences within Deltarune, but you CAN see how painting over nonbinary and GNC people actually WEAKENS the queer readings of Deltarune, right? Its not just about Deltarune, this affects other queer narratives as well: It makes it so that the varied and unique tapestry that IS queer identity becomes homogenized into an "acceptable" way to be queer, where nonbinary and other gendered people don't exist, because it's "hard to understand" or "gives the community a bad name." As if those same arguments haven't been used against binary trans people.

Nonbinary people are transgender too: we've always been here and deserve to have characters that reflect our experiences. It would be REALLY cool if people didn't paint over our experiences and existences with a more "acceptable" binary identity, just because it affirms their own existence. It could very well be that Kris was raised alongside Asriel as a "brother" but them not aligning with that role doesn't inherently make them a girl, or transfemminine. We need to consider the things that are present in the game: The way the other characters refer to and treat Kris, the items Kris can and cant apply to themself, etc etc. Saying "Kris is obviously a transgirl because they're uncomfortable with being forced into a masculine role" completely ignores and erases nonbinary people. Other genders/gender identities exist. Please stop perpetuating the idea that the only way to be transgender is as a transwoman.
