I just disappeared down a papal rabbit hole for the last like… hour or more
How has Catholicism lasted SO LONG. How are their records of popes SO LONG. How have there been less than 300 popes in the last three millennia, especially given some were only pope for like a month or less (the shortest being 12 days)???
What even is history?????? Time is so long??????? Perhaps even as vast as space (the other thing that sends me into existential spirals)??????

rebirth predictions
ok so since we’re like a week out I’m going to give my plot prediction for Jurassic world rebirth. Just to see how close I get. Because it’s fun!!
starts out with the lab flashback scene. This sets up the D Rex as some horrible monster. Somehow because of it, the island gets shutdown. Maybe some reference to Sorna or Nublar or Hammond. Like ‘shutter it, we’ll start again somewhere new.’
then flash forward to present. Jonathan Bailey’s guy is working in the museum. Rich man comes and says, hey you wana make money and see dinos cuz all the mainland ones are dead. He says yes. Then we see Scar Jo’s character and the mercenaries. Cue lots of quips and jokes as the boat to the island.
get to the island. First dinos we see are the titanosaurs. Cool awe inspiring, wow. Get the sample, causes a bit of a ruckus but no danger. Then the quetza scene. First action/fear scene of the movie besides the intro. Get the sample and narrowly escape. Now back to the boat to find the mosa.
they get out there and notice another boat, capsized. Find the family in a life boat. Get them onboard. Then notice they’re being hunted by spinos and mosa. Chaos ensues, mosa runs them aground. They do get the sample there though. Now everyone is scattered. They smell something gross and find the dead para corpse. A dilo pops out of the bushes and scares the kid who screams. The scream alerts sleeping Rex.
Rex chases half the group into the river. They get in a raft and we get the river scene. But what, what’s that!! Oh no a second Rex!! (I buy into the second Rex theory). This one is chasing the other half of the group into the forest. Can’t get past the trees. This is where they meet the raptors. They evade them for a bit and meet up with the other group. There’s a liar revealed situation around this time where the rich guy steals all the samples and then escapes in a helicopter.
they’re now way off course and night is falling. They hear some weird roars in the distance, it’s the D Rex but they don’t know. They find this abandoned lab, references to the D Rex. They get antsy. Then bang, mutadon. They run away to the gas station, and get chased.
the mutadons cause chaos. Then, a la JP1, the D Rex shows up and eats a Mutadon. Everyone panics. They run. In the woods again they find the crashed helicopter. Maybe the quetza got it. They get the samples back. They run to a dock, there might be a boat coming. The D Rex follows. There is a final show. One of the main people does get eaten. Then boom. Spinos show up and curb stomp the D Rex. Humans manage to escape.
there is no cure for whatever diseases but the samples can be used for…. Other things….
the end

I am making my third JP hot take and idk how it's going to be received but here we go.
JW1 is a better sequel to JP1 than JP2 or JP3. It is also a better movie than JP3 (barely).
So I love all of these movies and was rewatching the OG JP trilogy for fic reasons, and Had Some Thoughts.
to start, I'm going to outline why JW1 is a *good* sequel to JP1, even if it is only a B- action adventure movie with dinosaurs.
The premise of JP1 is that the main characters have been invited to the island to review the park so it can get the green light to be open to the public. It is not a functioning park and isn't meant to be taken as a fully open, functioning park. The idealistic and well-meaning millionaire who's brainchild the park was is betrayed by a greedy employee to outside corporate espionage, the dinosaurs wreak havoc, and the island is closed.
Following those events, it makes *perfect* sense that someone would try to correct the mistakes inherent to the park and reopen. The death toll in JP1 was 3 people. That is how many people need to die on a single ride for Disney World to shut down the ride. With only three deaths, there is no way the park (a multimillionaire dollar, decades in the making project) shuts down UNLESS the man spearheading it intentionally kills the project (which he does at the end of JP1).
We open JW1 and John Hammond is dead, a new company controls the island, has corrected the mistakes and has run the park successfully for years now. The movie goes on to show how the creation of a living thing (the Indominus Rex) without concern for its quality of life and how it will fit amongst the life surrounding it fits perfectly as a narrative comparison to the protagonist, Claire Dearing, in her beginning as an isolated person who grows and eventually learns her own place among the animals around her, respecting them and wanting to protect them.
This character development also mirrors that of John Hammond in the original JP movies.
Another key parallel is between the interference of Lewis Dogeson in JP1, the inciting corporate greed that prompts Dennis Nedry to betray Hammond and kick off the events of JP1, and the corporate greed of Simon Masrani (as well as arguably his betrayal of the ideals of Hammond which he inherited along with the park).
These themes of how these new living tbings will fit into the world and how we relate to them are played out in JP1 and JW1 as central themes. They are the primary questions asked, and what the audience is supposed to be thinking about at the end of both films. The protagonists (if JP1 has a single protagonist its Alan and while JW1 marketing may disagree Claire is the one going through the Hero's Journey, not Owen) both start as isolated characters who eventually connect with the dinosaurs and other humans to become more well-rounded characters. Corporate greed (not scientific neglect, see my post about how Ian Malcolm is an Asshole for more on that) are the driving negative forces in the narrative.
Thematically speaking, JP2 hits many of these same key themes, but is missing many of the direct parallels to the original film. Ian Malcolm largely does not grow as a character over the course of the film, and his focus is entirely on "dinosaurs = bad" as opposed to Nick and Sarah who both hold them as living things to be respected and protected. His motivations are largely selfish (he wants to protect the people he cares about specifically) until the very end of the movie where he tries to help the whole of San Francisco, but there isn't any build to this change. It's a great spin-off, but it is a wildly different movie thematically speaking.
JP3 is an extremely silly premise with excellent execution. The character dynamics of JP3 are where it really shines, but the ridiculousness of "parasailing millionaire gets stranded on dinosaur island with girlfriends son, estranged parents of boy lie to recruit random guys lying about being mercenaries and famous paleontologist with 1 survived dinosaur escapade to go and rescue son" is completely absurd. It is beautiful sound and fury, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to have thought about by the end of the film.
In short, JW1 is not perfectly executed, but thematically and narratively it succeeds in being a sequel to JP1 where JP2 and JP3 fall short.

If you could make a fix it fic, which fandom would you do it? For me, it would be Jurassic, because... there's a lot of "what an idiot" moments on the franchise, same with Star Wars.
Oh gosh, I have a growing list. I can't just stick to one! There's so many I have to ask the writer(s) what are you even doing?
Since you mentioned Jurassic in the ask, I'll keep the focus there, cause I do have issues with the franchise and there are some ideas I could think of to change up the series. Though it would be more directed towards the World films. JP1 and JP2 I can't think of anything I really need to fix, and JP3 only thing I'd have changed is the removal of the dumb dream. That was silly. But the rest of the film I was good with.
Now JW1, which was the best of the World films, at most I'd do minor tweaks. Make the older brother less creepy and stop staring at girls. Remove the mention that the brothers parents are getting a divorce, we don't need that. It's just pointless exposition. I'd also either overhaul Owen's character or replace him. Like, removing the actor from him and viewing him as a character, he's unlikable and just doesn't click with the other lead Claire, cause they're both stiff in different ways, she's controlling and orderly while he's gruff and hostile and it just wasn't pleasant seeing them work off each other. Maybe... given that raptors are social animals, the trainer should be sociable and a little playful, but gets serious as required.
JW2 I'd just overhaul all together, work off the trailers more. Like, at most, I'll give the film that the Indoraptor was hilarious cause that thing thought he was in his own horror film, but for a film that was built up on dinosaurs getting loose, and our era is about to be a "fallen kingdom" and we're truly about to enter Jurassic World; well the movie should've been more about that. And given the opening, maybe it should've been that the Mosasaurus should've been the focal big antagonist of the film. Have Claire spending her life focusing on the dinosaurs and handling the mess of the fallen theme park, being in charge of handling the dinosaurs and overseeing the island. And it's discovered the Mosasaur got out and Claire is to assist in the termination as it's doing a lot of damage in the ocean, and while this sea horror film is going on with the Mosasaur, in the B plot, Biosyn is coming to the island to gather up the dinosaurs, with Dodgson leading the way. Idk how, but the two plots will come together, and because Biosyn is over ambitious, dinosaurs break free are now loose in the United States and is set to some how spread to other parts of the world. And that would be Dominion, full blown dinosaur apocalypse with people trying to survive, and adapt to dinosaurs now being a part of life and can come and go wherever they please, and seeing what changes have to be made and just embrace the horror of this setting. I'd also like the Camp Cretaceous kids make cameos.
Speaking of which, I'd overhaul s4 of Camp Cretaceous too. I'd go that the Mosasaur pushes the campers onto Site B and they got to survive on the new island, and it keeps dinosaurs as the focal threat with our old buddy Spino, we see the rex from JP2 grown up, and of course the raptors. This will also be the season for Sammy to shine a little as Mantah Corp is here to do illegal experimentation, which maybe here is where you get to see the Indoraptor as I cut that out in my idea of JW2. And the guy that blackmailed Sammy's family is here, and she and him are going to have an actual confrontation for what he did to her and her family. I'd also reveal that Mantah Corp picked up on the SOS signal and purposely ignored it. And it could be set up that s4 they were able to get a hold of Mantah Corp's tech and get a message out that Dave and Roxie and Darius' older brother picks up and keep in them coming in to help in s5. Also the scientist they come across in s4, I'd either cut her out entirely as she was kinda pointless, or make her another Mantah Corp operative, not kept in the dark about what they're doing, but she also wasn't here for child murdering, so she helps the kids however she can.
I'd keep in Kenji and Darius making up, but change up the reasoning, instead of Kenji's mad at Darius for endangering his (apparent) crush Brooklyn, he's mad because all the campers are his first time friends, he had lost Ben, he nearly lost Sammy, and so soon Brooklyn is in danger right now and Darius left her in that danger (though she did tell him to leave her). And he was mad at Darius for taking that risk for their friend cause between Sammy and Ben, it really clicked for him how terrifying it is knowing that another is in danger. And I would clarify that Kenji isn't wrong in his feelings, but it is something he needs to get past cause now isn't the time for there to be tension in the group.
Also, if any couple is going to be made official in s4, it's going to be Yaz and Sammy.
As for the matter of PTSD, I'm going to clarify that all the kids have PTSD. I am baffled that s4 claimed that Darius, the 12 yo who had to step up as the leader of these kids, struggling to survive, running from dinosaurs that wanted to kill him, had to deal with bounty hunters that wanted to kill them, and the horror that was the Scorpius Rex; apparently doesn't have PTSD, that he's good. Yeah that can go. That felt like some cheap means to try and separate Darius from the group and help establish Kenji as the new leader; yeah that go out the window. That was irritating.
As for Kenji's dad being in charge of Mantah Corp... I actually still need to watch s5, but I'd lean that he isn't. Like, the man is a VIP at the park, he has his own spot on the park that's isolated and exclusive to him, he has access to hidden routes under the island that can go into any of the exhibits. Why does his company need to hire a teenager to be a spy and gather dna and intel for him???
And for sure, I'd have CC officially end around the time that FK ends, and when Darius sees a dinosaur in his neighborhood, there is horror and dread in his face cause that's not supposed to be here, and that ends with your build up for Dominion, and setting the tone of what's to come.
And so concludes Punchie's ranty rewrite of the Jurassic franchise. I hope you guys like it better than what we got.

Something that has bothered me about the two Jurassic World films thus far is that they feel incredibly cheap compared to the Jurassic Park films. Lacking unique artistic style, and in the way danger is presented or portrayed, etc. I was content to chalk this up to lazy film making even though that felt odd considering the amount of effort put into the rest of the films. But I'm beginning to think it was intentional to leave a dissatisfied audience wanting bigger and better from future installments that they undoubtedly will make and are confident people will go see even if a previous film wasn't that good. And while it might seem odd for a major film studio to intentionally make a mediocre trilogy it makes some sense if you look at Universal/NBC vs Disney/Marvel. I'll get into why I think that in a moment but first, why would they do it?
In short, Disney is a juggernaut milking Star Wars and Marvel for literal billions. Universal isn't NBC's only entertainment company but they need to start putting real money on the table to compete. JW was planned as a trilogy from day one and Universal was bringing back the Universal Monsters as well. But why make a few sequels when you can make a trilogy that starts weak and builds back towards the original JP film and leaves the audience hungry for more media and content? The Mummy (2017) failed for several reasons and the Universal Monsters plan is shelved for now. This makes the Jurassic franchise much more important in NBCUniversal Media's planning.
Now, why do I feel this is the case in JW?
Jurassic World vs Jurassic Park:
Tumblr media
This guy makes a comment early in JW1 saying "That first park was legit" and he isn't wrong. John Hammond's vision for the first park and it's planned future expansions was that of a resort in the middle of a zoo. We see more of that in the book but it still shows in the artwork and design of JP1. The whole aesthetic (which I love) is like a safari camp built on the heavy industrial bones needed for safety. Everything about JW1 is cold and corporate approved. It is the same as every other theme park in the world, it just happens to have dinosaurs. Claire and Owen have to go outside the main park to start getting that wild vibe. I will say the Gyrospheres and the glimpse of the kayaks in the river suggests that the park has more to offer but we don't get to see it. We spend too much time with corporate goons and InGen's weird Blackwater'esque division. The control room staff also feels incredibly different which is partially due to JW featuring an operational park and JP featuring a park still in shakedown testing. John, Robert, Ray, and Dennis arguing and the subsequent trouble shooting feels like a real workplace, the control room in JW is just a place where Claire yells and buttons are pushed by minons.
Fallen Kingdom vs The Lost World:
Both films are very adventure oriented and feature hunting parties that can be a lot of fun. But once again the characters and vehicles from the JP trilogy feel much more authentic than the JW trilogy. I think the only guy in Fallen Kingdom's hunting party that stands out is this guy:
Tumblr media
Who's name is apparently Ken Wheatley which I don't remember being said and he's played by Ted Levine but you'd never guess because he has zero material to work with. He's just the weird tooth collecting goon. Meanwhile The Lost World's hunting party had Roland, Ajay, Dieter, Carter, and Dr. Burke. Most of whom aren't even villains, they just have a jerk boss. Similar to the new control room staff in JW1 being forgettable, the new sidekicks for Owen and Claire are easily forgotten, there's Zoe the veterinarian or biologist, and screaming guy. Nothing in Fallen Kingdom has the suspense of the cliff scene in Lost World. That truck jump at the dock? Of course they will make it, literally all of the protags are on board. It's not like three are hanging off a cliff, another is in a tree top, and one is in a car while a T-Rex family separates them all.
But back to my point of starting weak and getting better towards the end. The final act of Fallen Kingdom is set in a mansion that's half a natural history museum. Essentially a sinister dark stained wood counterpart to the plaster and concrete visitor center in JP1. This is also where many more characters are in real peril. The trailer for JW: Dominion shows a massive return of original characters and lots of JP trilogy visuals. The marketing is based around a franchise conclusion that Universal can't afford. They have hyped this for years and remodeled their theme park sections to match. They will probably wrap the InGen based storyline and a main character or two might die, but this is not the end of their cash cow. I predict an intentional unsatisfactory "ending" that leaves the fandom screaming for more, which NBCUniversal will deliver in some way or another.

Monday 30/8/21 - Great Jaggi; The Jurassic Park Monster
Tumblr media
The Monster Hunter series has a large variety in its creature design. Even in the very first game, there were wild mammals, giant fish, dragons and unicorns. But I did not touch the series until the Third generation, and importantly for me and my palaeontology riddled mind, that is when the series dipped hard into dinosaurs and other ancient reptiles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left: Qurupeco, Right: Devlijho
The fire sparking Pterosaur Qurupeco and the bloodthirsty Coelurosaur Deviljho were introduced in this game. And even if this series made its start way after a certain genre defining Dinosaur film franchise had begun, it was clear that Monster Hunter had been touched by inspiration. Today I want to make a quick focus on the Jurassic Park monster, the Great Jaggi.
Tumblr media
Middle: Great Jaggi, Left and Right: Jaggi
The Great Jaggi is a Bird-Wyvern, a monster hunter category that existed since the first generation. Bird-Wyverns are smaller meat eating dinosaur monsters, but the Great Jaggi is a larger monster, bigger than a man, and it controls a pack of allied Jaggi and Jaggia.
Taking a step back, the immediate striking visual is the head ornamentation. The frill calls obvious reference to Dilophosaurus. Or more specifically Jurassic Park's Dilophosaurus, since this frill isn't present in any other reconstruction of this dinosaur, fabricated specifically for JP1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left: Great Jaggi, Right: JP Dilophosaurus
The Great Jaggi also has one particularly large claw on each hand, calling reference to the large sickle claw of dromeosaurs such as Velociraptor.
Speaking of Velociraptor, the Great Jaggi is also a very vocal socialiser, much like the raptors in Jurassic Park. The Great Jaggi will often raise its head and make a booming or howling sound, this is to call its underlings into battle, or to direct them into specific attack formations.
youtube
youtube
Lastly, the Great Jaggi seems to have a Chihuahua complex, in that they pick fights with other monsters, many larger than themselves.
And much like the battle between the Jurassic Park T rex and Raptors, the Great Jaggi rarely wins these exchanges.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left: Great Jaggi vs Deviljho, Right: T rex vs Raptor
Now of course I didn't put a tonne of time and research into this blogpost, a lot of these inferences are personal connections I made myself. This wasn't a super informative piece comparatively, but its something.
So yeah, this is my hot take for the week; Great Jaggi is the quintessential Jurassic Park Monster in Monster Hunter.

lily white | @saerinity
dinner is just over, plates cleared off the tables. the taste of dessert — something airy, chocolate-flavored, and insubstantial, not so much something to be consumed as to suggest the idea of it — lingers at the back of his throat. he takes a final sip out of his wine glass (white, some italian vintage, he wouldn’t know) before that, too is whisked away by the white-gloved hand of the waitstaff.
the second half of the night is about to begin. dongha’s eyes dart from one end of the table to the next. insoo’s smug, stupid face is at the left head, because of course. jp1′s somewhere in the middle across the table. dongha’s eyes trace her hand, the way it moves when he speaks.
he swallows, and looks down to his own, the bubbling excitement of his feelings — nervousness, admiration, a little guilt, she’s just really pretty — more intoxicating than anything he’s had to drink tonight. it’s kind of fun, to have a crush.
but it’s even more fun to have someone to talk about it with.
dongha lifts his head and looks in saeri’s direction, where she’s sitting near insoo, unfortunately. he tries to catch her eye; she’s one of his few friends here. they’re all going to get up in a moment anyway, the night about to begin in earnest. dongha’s not quite sure he’s ready for it. he wouldn’t mind a little distraction, a little bit of saeri’s reassurance. across the table, he cocks his head to the side and mouths ‘wanna talk?’

Walking and Running Require Greater Effort from the Ankle than the Knee Extensor Muscles.
Attached is an older video from a few years back , it is very similar in execution to the heel-rise ball squeeze exercise which is the precursor to this more functional engagement as shown in this video today.
The important premise is that you have to have command of the entire posterior compartment if you are to get safe, effective, efficient and adequate ankle plantarflexion. As we have discussed many times, if you do not have the requisite skills as shown in this video you are in trouble and ankle sprains and other functional pathologies are not unlikely to visit you. Additionally, without requisite posterior compartment endurance and an ability to engage what I like to refer to as "top end" strength in the heel rise is an asymmetrial loading issue and can lead to compensatory adaptations up the kinetic chain. Make no mistake, the load will go somewhere, and thus the work will be done somewhere. In this video you should be able to clearly see and understand that one must be able to achieve top end posturing and have command of lateral and medial forefoot loading responses and challenges if clean forward function and power is to be achieved, and injuries from extremes of motion medially and laterally are to be avoided. Furthermore, as eluded to here and in several of our podcasts (and in the study included below), an inability to achieve top end posturing will lead to changes in forefoot loading, may spill over into endurance challenges prematurely in the posterior mechanism, and create changes in the timing of the gait cycle (things like premature or delayed heel rise, premature or delayed forefoot loading, recruitment of other components of the posterior chain just to name a few). This parsing and sharing of loads and responsibilities is laid out in the Kulmala study referenced today. The study could be extrapolated to say, I believe, that particularly in sprinting, a failure to achieve top end heel rise through effective posterior mechanism contraction, will change the load sharing between the posterior compartment and the quadriceps. After all, if the calf is weak, the ankle is not in as much plantarflexion, this could mean more knee flexion and thus raise demands on the quadriceps, logically changing knee mechanics. This is exactly why we spend so much time at every patient visit looking for full range of motion at the joints and then determine the skill, endurance and strength of the associated muscles in supporting that range. Then, of course, comparing this function to the opposite limb. Symmetry is not everything, but it is definitely a major factor in safe efficient and injury free locomotion.
* Please give great thought to the part in the video where I discuss the drop phase in jumping. All too often we at looking for the propulsive mechanics and forget that a failure there will also be represented during the adaptive phase. Ankle sprains rarely occur from propulsive pushing off, they occur from a failure to properly reacquaint the foot to the ground on the following step. -Dr. Shawn Allen, one of the gait guys.
In this study the authors noted: "During walking, the relative effort of the ankle extensors was almost two times greater compared with the knee extensors. Changing walking to running decreased the difference in the relative effort between the extensor muscle groups, but still, the ankle extensors operated at a 25% greater level than the knee extensors. At top speed sprinting, the ankle extensors reached their maximum operating level, whereas the knee extensors still worked well below their limits, showing a 25% lower relative effort compared with the ankle extensors."
And concluded that: "Regardless of the mode of locomotion, humans operate at a much greater relative effort at the ankle than knee extensor muscles. As a consequence, the great demand on ankle extensors may be a key biomechanical factor limiting our locomotor ability and influencing the way we locomote and adapt to accommodate compromised neuromuscular system function."

Therefore, I recommend that you start with the building blocks before you even look at machine
Everyone gets out of the car, and you all munch on some snacks as you walk around the parking lot and enjoy some fresh air. As you turn around, you spot your four-year-old daughter, casually leaning on the grill, sporting her cool shades, and eating a banana. You smile and decide to snap a picture. Andrew is a writer from Orlando, Florida and father of three. He has contributed writing to the Washington Post, McSweeney’s, Parents, Scary Mommy, Weekly Humorist, Fatherly, Human Parts, and City Dads, among others. He enjoys scrolling Twitter and avoiding small talk at all costs. For more, visit his website and follow him on Twitter and Facebook. It’s a sign of humility. To adopt that mindset, it shows one has a drive to learn. To me, this has been the key aspect in my development as a writer, thinker, and person. It’s the main reason I started a learning community.
Unfortunately, Audi’s PR people won’t have any nice memories from posting this exact picture on their Twitter account. In fact, they’ve probably had nightmares ever since.
Are there more predictors than these three? Of course. People often respond with something like this: “What about [insert trait]?” Yes, what about it? The point of this article is not to create a definitive list of success predictors. I don’t believe such a thing exists because success remains a subjective topic.
If you’re like that, you’re making life very hard for yourself. Why would you go through life with so much resistance? Because that’s what it comes down to. When you kick against every wall, you’re resisting outside perspectives. One of the most frustrating is, how elusive perfection has been. By that I simply mean free of typos or grammatical errors. It seems no matter how many times I reread or rewrite, somewhere down the road a simple error can and does still surface. One of the most harmful traits in life is the opposite of having a drive to learn. If you think you know it all, don’t listen to feedback, and are stubborn, I don’t think you can ever be truly successful.

My assumption is that as an aspiring Data Scientist, you’ll want to fully understand the concepts and details of various machine learning algorithms, data science concepts, and so forth.
You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. Simply aspire for being content with your own life. That’s already a very high aim because so many people are miserable. And if you can’t have it all? So what? At the end of the ride, you’ll be happy. And that’s what matters the most.

Referring to an author IQ level in the title likely sent an inaccurate message. What I’m really talking about are tools, teams, actions and discipline. My own writing journey has taught me many things.
Anonymous tweeter “Yet another Boomer” said: “What sexist crapshit. What a shitty car. Cars like this kill children. Could you show any clearer that you don’t give a shit about the environment, life, and the future of our children? You’re a rotten shit-company, please delete yourselves.”
We all learn from each other. When you have the humility to learn from others, you will not only learn faster, you will also become a better person. That’s how generations should work. But it’s not complicated. We make success complicated by comparing ourselves to others. Instead of following our definition of success, we live according to how others define it. That’s how people end up thinking they are not successful. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. Simply aspire for being content with your own life. That’s already a very high aim because so many people are miserable. And if you can’t have it all? So what? At the end of the ride, you’ll be happy. And that’s what matters the most.In promoting their top-of-the-line A4 model — the RS 4 wagon — the image above thoroughly missed its mark — and caused a shitstorm of extraordinary proportions — especially among the German community. Let me translate some of the comments for you.The current generation should be better than the previous one. That might not be always true across the world. But on a personal level, we should all aspire to be better than the ones who came before us. Not because we want to beat them, but because we respect them.

Which Jurassic Park movie is your favorite?
Definitely the first! I think it does a great job introducing the premise and making then tension feel very real. The dinosaurs looked super authentic, and the actors all do a great job. The kitchen/raptor scene is my favorite Jurassic Park scene ever!
That said, I think Jurassic Park III comes in very close for second place. I know people apparently really hated it, but I loved it despite its flaws. And it also has more dinosaurs than JP1, so it’s got that going for it! The scene at the beginning with Cooper and the one where the pterodactyl shows up still freak me out.
Jurassic World comes in third place. I still loved it though, don’t get me wrong! There are, of course, lots of plot holes--plus that annoying “if I have kids”/”when” thing and the unnecessary romantic subplot--but overall it was a great movie. The over-commercialization of the park made it feel very realistic.
JPII obviously wasn’t very good in comparison with the other two movies, but I still enjoy watching it. Because dinosaurs, you know how it is. But Malcolm’s girlfriend and daughter were absolutely insufferable, and I still refuse to believe that the velociraptors who learned how to open doors within 2 minutes of encountering one were taken out by some middle school girl’s gymnastics. The scene of the raptors running through the tall grass was great though!
Also, ALAN GRANT AND ELLIE BELONGED TOGETHER.

Vaccinating your child is controversial. Twenty-five years ago, this statement would not receive the same credibility as a true statement, but today it undoubtedly garners at least a nod of approval when heard out in the public. The decision to reach out to medical professionals and make the informed decision to vaccinate your child has become a topic of contentious discussion in the Western world, particularly in America. Alternately, the decision to recuse oneself from the vaccination process altogether has grown increasingly popular. While this decision is ultimately left up to the individual parents, concerns over the possible revival of eradicated or nearly eradicated disease draws attention and concern from the general populace. And so, the decision of whether to vaccinate your children becomes a public health issue, one that some parents claim cannot be left up to individual parents in the concept of well-being for the general populace. The general populace, then, concerns itself with the job of convincing the most amount of people it can to vaccinate their children, or at the very least, have a conversation with a member of the medical field so you can truly make the most informed decision over what is best for both your child and society as a whole. But what happens when apprehensive parents don’t listen? What lingering concerns keep these parents from acknowledging the known benefits of vaccinating, and why do these concerns linger at all? The research done throughout this project aimed to answer these questions, and share these answers with parents curious about the same topic. [JP1]
Making the results of this project public would be most effective if it were shared in the multimedia presentation style, such as a Ted Talk. In this genre, the presentation may be given in front of a large studio audience, recorded, and then made public via social media. As this research project has shown, social media has a large influence over the general public’s opinion, which makes this media a good choice for sharing information with a large amount of people. The primary purpose of my research was, of course, to search for answers to the aforementioned questions. However, it is important that this research reach a large amount of people, as the information, I’ve learned, is very important to the general populace. As stated earlier, decisions regarding vaccination processes are difficult to make for many, and any and all information that may help make the decision easier should be shared. A TED Talk makes this simple. According to their website, the mission of TED (Technology, Entertainment, & Design) includes “chang[ing] [JP2] attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world.” Naturally, this mission overlaps greatly with the purpose of my research. 13 million people follow the TED Facebook page, with their most popular TED Talk currently claiming nearly 63 million views. This media, then, provides an opportune ability to reach a staggering amount of people. With the prevalence of the anti-vaccination movement being on the rise, and once eradicated diseases returning, reaching a large amount of people has never been more important.
TED Talks are designed to be accessible and understandable to most ordinary people. To do so, the non-profit relies on its methods of providing information in simple, relatable, and scientifically supported ways. A study published in 2013 states that people are more engaged with scientific information when the information is adorned with humor, satire, and other forms of comedy such as “the rhetorical devices used in many entertainment platforms” (Sugimoto, Thelwall, Larivière, Andrew Tsou, Mongeon, & Macaluso 2013). TED Talks, which are given live, are a personal method of providing information that enables the presenter to be humorous and satirical. Therefore, the inclusion of jokes and anecdotes in this presentation will make my message more relatable, and consequently more likely to be watched an enjoyed by the general public. Additionally important is the usage of visuals to further explain your message. When we hear information, we generally remember only 10% of said information three days later. By adding a visual, that percentage increases to 65% (Medina 2018). Pictures are important[JP3] .
In the 18 minutes you have to present all the necessary information, it helps to follow a proven formula that optimizes the time you’ve been given. Yasser El Miedany[JP4]  explains this formula, equating a TED Talk to any other effective method of storytelling. First, she states that you must get the Who, Why, and What questions down before you can even begin presenting. Effectively, you need to understand the rhetorical situation of the presentation. As with any method of information sharing, this is necessary to ensure you share the information in the way that best fits your audience. Then, you can begin crafting your presentation. The best way to begin, El Miedany says, is with a story. Because the vaccination argument is so widespread and personal, it wouldn’t be hard to find or even craft a story detailing the thoughts, mindset, and effects of the average anti-vaccination parent. This way, the viewers can become interested in my message from the beginning, and get a general sense of what exactly I will be talking about. From then, El Miedany says a proper presentation includes a more personal story, as overused and cliché stories may get boring for the audience, but a personal story is one they have not heard before, and therefore more likely to pay attention to. Creating suspense keeps the audience on their toes, paying attention to the words you are saying, and truly seeing the message inside their own heads. To do so, El Miedany says to “tell a story chronologically and build up to a climactic conclusion,” a story that includes 3-dimensional, relatable characters so that you bring the story to life for the audience. Create the “Mental Movie” for your audience by including all the possible ways in which they can live vicariously through your words, namely by including details satisfying the five senses. Not unlike a climax, a STAR moment is defined as “Something They’ll Always Remember.” Namely, El Miedany claims this is something “so dramatic that your audience will be talking about it weeks later.” The example he gives is Bill Gates’s 2009 TED Talk on malaria, in which he opened a jar of mosquitos inside the studio because “There’s no reason only poor people should have the experience.” If not for the fact that it’s already been done, this wouldn’t be a bad idea in my presentation on the anti-vaccination movement. Finally, El Miedany’s perfect presentation ends with a positive takeaway that the audience finds inspiring and optimistic. To increase the odds of this takeaway going viral, he states that it should be “packaged into a short, memorable phrase or sound bite” (El Miedany 2018). With[JP5]  the goal of this project going viral, this is very lucrative information.
In[JP6]  a nation concerned about the potential issues that can potentially be created by the anti-vaccination movement, it is important that information on the matter be given in the most understandable and time-effective manner. Due to its ability to include humor, pictures, and effective storytelling, a TED Talk is the genre most fitting for my presentation.

Thankfully, a kind passerby took pity on the puppy
A three-month-old Rottweiler puppy who was found wandering alone through Hyde Park, London, has got his Christmas wish: a forever home in time for Christmas. Oliver the Rottweiler puppy certainly didn’t have the most auspicious start to life. Found wandering alone through Hyde Park, the little guy had been abandoned by his previous owner. Thankfully, a kind passerby took pity on the pup and took him to Battersea Cats and Dogs Home where centre workers discovered he was completely blind.
A mystery pup With no chip and no way of knowing where he came from, it’s difficult to say exactly why he was abandoned but it does seem possible that it was by breeders who thought he’d be difficult to sell because of his blindness.
But, at this time of year, we all want to hear good news and there finally is some for little Oliver, he’s found his forever home just in time for Christmas.
Oliver Twist And it seems that the pup’s personality is really coming through now he knows he’s safe.
Despite his sight loss, he’s managed to acclimatise himself to his new home and likes to take his food bowl to his owner when he’s hungry – earning himself the nickname Oliver Twist!
We wish little Oliver all the very best and hope he has the happiest of Christmas – he deserves it!
