where: the challenge - weekend getaway when: may 2025 who: mika & @nikhilmehra
Mika was preparing for a jog. Having been convinced to partake in the course, she needed to get some last minute work outs in in preparation. "I can't believe I got roped into doing this thing. It should be fun though, no? I hope."

Aight, read Seek 3.2.W
Obligatory ACAB
I like Nikhil. It does seem to be a running theme with the story that characters aren't able to form the found families in the style that wildbow usually writes. Winnifred keeps finding people, this time even some very cool people, and those people get yanked away from her.
That conversation with the old folks was fascinating, really shining a critical light on the worldbuilding we've been presented with. Neither we nor Winnifred actually know how hard the demodding process really is, she just got a taste of it one time and didn't like it. The fact that she can't even look up how hard it would be, and whether that uncle really killed himself, because her family is watching her so closely, it reminds me of some religious indoctrination, where doubt and critical thought are cast as sinful.
Also the old folks think the world is for-reals post-scarcity, which the conversation does highlight is kind of not really the case and that most of the characters aren't 100% clear on how the economy actually works. At the same time there are more options and avenues for Winnifred to take than she'd been led to believe. The whole dynamic there felt really believable.

Hey, to no one's surprise, I guess I had more to say after all 🤣
Let's play a game of 'how many times' shall we? When it might even have been inevitable that certain names would come up with regards to current-ish stories... (And by come up, in this case, I mean mentions in double digits, obviously. Because that's where we are with Robert.)
How often have we heard Jai mention his daughter Eliza since his other child Archie came to live with him?
When Dan was sent to prison, how many times did Amelia's biological father Daz enter the conversation? When she didn't know how she and Esther would cope all alone in the world?
When was the last time Jacob got to mention Alicia, the woman who raised him and he called mum until one day he suddenly switched from 'auntie Leyla' to mum... Did he speak of her at all during any of his near brushes with death?
How many times did we hear about Nikhil and Priya when their father died and Jai found out he's only their half sibling? Bare minimum.
Or Andy when Sarah needed one of her many medical treatments - including a heart transplant? Or anytime Bernice was leaving?
The Dingles' other siblings when Zak died?
Jessie when her grandson was born or diagnosed with a horrible illness?
How often did Victoria bring up Adam when she was moving on with other men like Luke, David and Jacob? He was the love of her life wasn't he? They were planning to have kids at one point? You're telling me they didn't dredge his name up every time she entered a new relationship!? 😱 Even with Moira ill and visiting Adam, they only need a few mentions of his name, right?
(Side note, you know who they mentioned a lot though? Jamie Tate. And the actor has said he's been in several talks with the show about returning since he left, they clearly hoped he would say yes. Ultimately, he chose not to, and guess what, they stopped mentioning him so much after that...)
And finally, when was the last time someone randomly carried around a photo, or even glanced at one, of a former - still alive - character on the show?

Meeta is the only reason why I go back to watching Hasee Toh Phasee, even though it has some problematic elements. Meeta and the music of the film, to be precise, but more particularly Zehnaseeb and Ishq Bulava, but that's another post.
Tumblr media
Meeta, played by Parineeti Chopra, is shown as an intelligent girl right from childhood, along with Nikhil, played by Siddharth Malhotra. When the film opens with both our protagonists’ childhood counterparts, it's very interesting to see a young Meeta closing the door while a young Nikhil tries to open a closed door. While he does this to watch his favorite film, Agneepath, 14 years later Nikhil breaks out of his room by unscrewing the room’s windows to attend a wedding where he meets Meeta hanging by a barbed wire fence, trying to run away.
Tumblr media
After their brief conversation, we understand that both of them have similar ideas and are alike, which we already established from the opening scene. As they say their goodbyes, Meeta asks Nikhil, whom she just met, to come to Goa with her. He doesn't, unfortunately. (He later in the film realizes how big of a mistake it was.) But this post is not about the “swooning” chemistry Nikhil and Meeta had. This post is only about Meeta as a character and how much we need more of her in the movies.
Tumblr media
First, let me put aside a few things by saying that I absolutely despised the bade pappa who loves slapping Meeta, and the rest of her family who are at any given time passing sexist comments on the sisters. They always want their girls to wear “dhang k kapde.” Meeta’s dad is the only one who has encouraged her smarts since childhood, and I am glad that he finally takes her side during the climax. I also hated that Meeta takes all the pills at the airport (which she later pukes), which made her look like she has forgotten her goal, her lab, her colleagues, working on the project, everything basically everything she went through, all the family trauma, and the reason she came home for. It just felt extremely out of character for her. Yes, she's in love with a guy who is going to get married to her sister. I get it! But that one scene just felt… I mean… She did her PhD on her own, started her lab, her thesis and her project all without any support from family and her forgetting all of that instantly just felt out of place. But then again, “the things love makes you do,” I guess.
Now that all that's out of the way, here's why I loved watching Meeta.
Meeta is a scientist. She casually starts explaining physics concepts during conversations (the hiccup scene). She comes from a science background and all her bits and her dialogues are just straight-up facts. She's extremely intelligent and a little bit quirky and does weird stuff sometimes, although most of it is due to her medicines. But I don't blame her for it. If I had a family who constantly called me crazy, disowned me, abused me, and behaved like I didn't exist, I would be popping some pills too. The scene with her singing “Ek garam chai ki pyali ho” or even the confusion that ensues with the twin relatives at the bazaar is a laugh riot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meeta deserved better treatment from everyone in her family. But just Meeta as a character deserved better.
I cannot remember any other female character in Indian cinema that was showcased as a highly intellectual, nerdy protagonist. Even though Hasee Toh Phasee isn't a Meeta-centric movie (it should've been) and doesn't talk sensitively about Meeta’s conditions (most of her behavior from the meds is shown comedically), this was the only film where I was rooting for the female lead and wanted to put up Meeta’s poster in my room. I mean, where in movies do we have a female scientist protagonist, and that too in a rom-com?
Tumblr media
Even after being raised in an extremely orthodox family, she dares to dream, and with her dad’s support, she fulfills her dreams and makes a crazy invention. She knows what she wants, and she goes to extremes to fulfill her goals. The only unfortunate part of her life is her unsupportive, misogynist family who will spend money on lavish weddings but won't fund their daughter's educational needs. This is why Meeta runs away with the money.
As a physics nerd, I would've loved to see more about Meeta’s life in China, her friends, her colleagues, and her work, Or just her growing years as a science enthusiast that made her a scientist. Because Meeta, for me, felt like “finally a nerdy female character who is not shown as one of the bros or an introverted thick-rimmed glass-wearing geek or even a stereotypical tomboy.” Meeta, in my books, will always remain a superhero scientist, creator of the perpetual motion machine polymer ball whose story still needs to be told.
Meeta is not a manic pixie dream girl who's here to save the male protagonist from his depressed life and show him the “world through a different lens,” nor is she a damsel in distress who needs saving. She's here for herself. She comes home from China for her lab, her project, and her passion. Meeta is an extremely intelligent, career-driven woman who also knows that “Do half mein ek full se zyada milta hai”! 😉

WHO: @nikhilmehra WHERE: Merrock Hospital. WHEN: Week of the June 8th.
"I need to speak with Dr. Mehra." Of course, Adya doesn't look at them only to the nurse had been charting in the room that Nik was. In the measured way it was said, Adya is holding back any of the malice she feels towards him and their situation for when either they're alone or not at the workplace at all. If that were to happen ever again. That's what made this situation so difficult. On professional level, there were not many people she respected more. On a personal level? Nurse Kwog leaves and Adya gives her an apologetic smile, noting mentally to get her some sort of gift card or something sweet for the next time she sees her. "It's about my patient that keeps coming in. You and I both know this is not the behavior of a drug seeker no matter how much my Attending thinks it so. He's being an ass and --" The realization that the personal familiarity slips into the conversation automatically. Though, they'd been coworkers, Nik had been her favorite and coworker bestie -- as some would say. "She's one flag away from not being able to be taken seriously in all of Maine and I'd really like to get her admitted and some proper testing done. Her insurance is ONLY letting the tests I know she needs done with reasonable cause, which, a hospital admission would be. If you could talk to my Attending and let him know that we've at least discussed this in detail over the past few months -- I think he'd listen to you over me." Translation: Dr. Kovak was an asshole misogynist that neither of them actually liked but listened to Nikhil more than them. He may not have meant to be harmful but he was ignorant, which was deadly in medicine. Adya wants to sit down then, a wave of exhaustion coming over them, but instead steadies themself against the door finally casting a look over Nik after having paced & explained themselves in front of them. "Any patterns you've noticed lately?" The apple comes out of her pocket almost comically -- but an apple a day did keep the Doctor AWAY afterall.

WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED!!!
Just finished season two of ars Paradoxica and WHATTT
Did partridge lie about it being Lou being the one to give information to the Soviets or was Partridge given bad information form the start.
Lue and Chambers are joining ODAR now? The two that started the anchorites all because someone they love is in danger. Despite both David and Roberts betraying/manipulating the other two in some way.
Also... mateo and Nikhil are so cute!!! It hurts listening to them knowing that it is very unlikely they will have a happy ending. With Nikhil dead and mateo stuck in the future.
The conversation between Sally and Whickman about racism and how things haven't changed so greatly from whickman's time to Sally's. It was so wonderfully done.

are we friends or am I misreading communication that would more accurately read as acquaintances
- anonymous mauvillan exercise junkie.
Hey there Nikhil. Unless this is his roommate psychic-for-hire deciding to be funny. Pretty sure we fall into the unfortunate grey zone between acquaintances and friends that happens with internet communication that haven't met IRL and aren't chatting in full conversations in chat. You know, the kind that would retroactively become friends after an IRL meetup that went well.
I'm fine with calling it friends though. It's at the point WOULD be willing to do an IRL meet up without hesitation if I was in the area after all. So you are reading things well enough.

Shankar Kanade
Bijoy Ramachandran / July 16th, 2024
for 'Creations' magazine, Sangli
Sometime in the summer of 1992, a motley group of architects of disparate dispositions organised a workshop. A house was to be designed on a linear site with roads on the two narrow ends almost a floor apart in section. I remember distinctly the sensation of suddenly becoming aware of the power of the split-level – offering prospect and refuge, creating an intimate scale and responding to location in a visceral and direct way.
This was also the first time I got the chance to engage closely with the Base Group - Nikhil Arni, Sharad Padalkar, Edgar Demello, Sanjay Mohe, Prem Chandavarkar and of course the Kanade brothers. Discussions meandered and arguments were common. As participants, the real learning was about the importance of taking positions and working at the level of small details simultaneously with a larger contextual and societal awareness. Though the notion of ‘Indianness’ preoccupied the national discourse, this workshop seemed to focus squarely on what Prem called the ‘palpability of place’.
It was intimidating to see the ease with which Mohe drew the aspirational view – incorporating into it everything to do with ‘inhabitation’ – the shade, the perfect perch and vantage. Edgar and Prem brought their wide erudition and travels to our conversations. When will we ever read all those books, internalize all those seminal projects and be able to articulate our realization with such clarity? Nikhil was the agent provocateur and a host par excellence, introducing us to great music and delectable accouterments. Padalkar, with his long Swedish experience, gently nudging us to be watchful and Navnath Kanade, an enigmatic teacher - not easily satisfied, often using metaphors to instruct us.
Shankar Kanade Sir on the other hand sat down with us to draw. He was keen to engage at that level, with us. He was curious about his own instincts and where they would lead on this interesting site. His mind racing with ideas and opportunities. I have rarely had a teacher like this - someone who got down into the trenches with us, often as unsure as us about direction, but through this journey showing us methods, strategies and general principles of engagement. Being with him was a lesson in the single-minded pursuit of joy - the masterful management of all challenges into the making of places for well-being.
Years later on a visit to Keremane, their celebrated apartment building in Bangalore, with Prof. Chhaya, I remember distinctly, Shankar Sir’s recapitulation of the cost break-up of each component of construction and how he figured out ways to reduce this. His preoccupation with affordability did not come at the cost of making places of heightened sensory delight. So many of his homes reveal their making in literal but idiosyncratic ways. The trace of the hand is immediately perceivable, manifest in the intimate scale, the glorious imperfections, and the whimsical compositions. But often this articulated exterior conceals a rich, mysteriously lit, and cavernous interior, even in the smallest of homes. The scale of the projects did not deter Shankar Sir from his preoccupation with choreographing this sense of joy and wonder. His homes reveal the great empathy he had for his clients, working closely with them to keep their homes within budget, and surprising them with this bonus of a constantly inspiring place to live.
In 2023, as part of the Dhruba Baruah Memorial lecture event in Kolhapur, I got a chance to visit ‘lal ghar’ near Sangli with Mohe, Girish Doshi and around 20 architects. We spent the day with Shankar Sir in his wonderful laterite house, with two courtyards, an ingenious play of levels, and as always, just the perfect scale. It was a wonderful day. Shankar Sir and Mohe recapitulating the early days of discovery – at JJ, working in Doshi’s office on housing and Bernard Kohn’s office on a building for Vikram Sarabhai, teaching at CEPT, the wonderful Base Group days, talking about Kanvinde, Raje, and Correa and that very particular moment in time – when the nation was seeking an architectural identity and Shankar Sir as a young architect was seeking a foothold. Shankar
Sir’s humble beginnings, his deep and long-standing passion for architecture, and a willingness to engage wholeheartedly in the work at hand are inspirational lessons for us. His ability to see opportunity in any situation and turn even the most intractable condition to create magic is the result of his deep humanity and empathy.
Mohe told us of a story of when Shankar Sir lived in Mumbai in a small room while at JJ. The roof had a large hole in it and when asked about the rains, Shankar Sir would say that when lying down it was wonderful to have the stars overhead. As young architects finding our feet in Bangalore in the 90’s, we were fortunate to have had Shankar Sir and the other wonderful architects of the Base Group who blazed a path for us to follow, showing us what it is to be a real architect – one with integrity, curiosity and an abiding humanity.

[ nikhil parmar, cis-man, he/him ] Hey, isn’t that HRIDYANSH BHARATH. I thought they went away for the summer? Did you hear they might be a HUMAN? What I do know for certain is that they’re 34, and they’re BRIGHT and SKITTISH. They’re originally from MADURAI, TAMIL NADU, INDIA, and have been in/been back to FENRIRWOOD for 3 YEARS living in WOOD ROAD. I wonder if they still work at FENRIR UNIVERSITY as a PHYSICS PROFESSOR. Best if they stay safe for now.

background
hometown: madurai, tamil nadu, india birthplace: madurai, tamil nadu, india education level: bachelor's in physics, phd in physics
headcanons
hridyansh is the second oldest child of the bharath family, having been born less than a year after ez. growing up in a family with so many siblings, he often felt a little overlooked, so he tended not to draw very much attention to himself from a young age. this has extended into his adulthood, a lot of the times he feels like his issues aren't really as important as other people's, even if that's not necessarily true. he's always had an aptitude for math, it was his favorite subject in school and when applied with science it only turned into more of an interest for him, hence having a career in physics. besides teaching at the local university he also devotes a decent amount of his time to research, he wants to contribute what he can to figuring out the big questions of the universe. chose to go into teaching specifically because he wants to instill a passion for physics in the younger generation as well. hridyansh places a special amount of importance in appreciating the world around him, he considers his research an extension of this. in his mind science is one of the most valuable tools the world has to offer and he doesn't want this to be lost on younger people. between chellam and ez, hridyansh is definitely the quieter of the siblings. he would say that he grew up closer to ez simply due to their closeness in age and with chellam he's been trying to bond with her more in recent years but isn't really sure how. he doesn't fully understand her career but when she talks to him about it he takes a genuine interest and tries to contribute to the conversation despite his limited information.

"A letter to soul" in this busy schedule of our daily lives :
Hello Soul,
How are you ? :)
Want to say something to you
Want to spend some time with you
Isn't it so long we had a conversation
Isn't it so long we looked at each other n smiled
I dont want to ask you anything
I dont want any answers from you
Just want to Sit with you
By lakeside or Below the Baniyan tree where we used to sit together or any where
Just want to spend some time with you
I remember there was a time we used to share many things together
We used to do gossips especially abt brain's stupid thinking :p
But i have observed some where we have distanced our selves from each other
Yes ofcourse you knocked multiple times to meet
But i was busy with brain discussing the future and he was teaching me how to overthink unnecessarily
One fine morning i realized n decided to give a space to brain n asked him to vacant my room....
I still remember how you introduced me to my soulmate and you always asked me to follow heart while i was falling in love with her
And she is just an awesome soulmate as told by you
I still remember we discussed about her pure and warm heart many nights and yes she is just a beautiful soul as told by you
Just come home someday
I have again lighten up the lamps in the balcony under which we used to talk late night
I have again posted the pictures on the wall which reminds lots of happy memories
I have again fixed that barbeque in the garden where we used to have deep conversations while cooking food for soul
Just come home someday
I dont want to ask you anything
I dont want any answers from you
Just want to Sit with you.

Orlagh Neary, Former VP Of Quantum Ecosystem Engagement And GTM At Microsoft On Building Scalable And Safe AI And Quantum
Tumblr media
What if the future of computing isn’t about picking sides—AI, LLMs, or quantum—but about blending them into a unified, game-changing force?
In this compelling episode of Discover Dialogues, host Nikhil Sonawane sits down with Orlagh Neary, whose remarkable career has spanned continents, technologies, and industries. From AI to developer platforms to localization, Orlagh now spearheads Microsoft’s Quantum and AI Ecosystem Engagement & GTM strategy. She also serves on the board of Cambrian Futures and advises UNESCO’s International Year of Quantum—making her a key voice in turning today’s emerging tech into tomorrow’s foundation.
What makes Orlagh’s approach truly stand out is her ability to align frontier technologies with enterprise priorities. She explains how AI (pattern recognition), LLMs (language), and quantum computing (scale) aren't separate silos—they’re a collaborative “dream team” poised to revolutionize sectors from healthcare to logistics.
👉 Read more about this transformative conversation here: Orlagh Neary on Building Scalable and Safe AI and Quantum
In the episode, Orlagh explores:
Why quantum computing isn’t just the future—it’s the next great frontier
How AI strengthens LLM accuracy and supports fault tolerance in quantum systems
Practical examples of this tech trifecta driving innovation in drug discovery, energy, and supply chains
The urgent need for “Quantum Safety” as a brand and data resilience strategy, not just an encryption play
