one day, during a particularly messy clean - up, he noticed blood running down your leg. you were limping slightly, still hauling equipment. and you looked bored. like it wasn’t even worth stopping over.

“sit down.” he told you bluntly.

“i didn’t ask.” he retorted.

so you sat. but you laughed a little.

and that was the start.

after that, he’d call on you more often. partnered you with him during scouting runs. paired you up for drills. you didn’t speak much, but when you did, it was always dry, smart, sharp. simple, just how he liked it.

and then one night, after hours, when the barracks were quiet and your hands were bruised from the day’s work, you ran into him. told a joke that got a small smile out of him. told him goodnight— and actually got a response.

and that was how it began.

levi’s quiet, and you are too. the kind of quiet that has its own rhythm. over time, he learned that you like your tea strong and your bathwater hotter than hell. you learned that he stares too hard when he’s tired, and that he can’t sleep unless something’s covering his hands.

I do have a question for you. I've been searching for the answer all over the Internet but I couldn't find it. Maybe you can help me.

My question is: how did Erwin Smith find out about Levi in the first place? I know the story of A Choice with No Regrets, both manga and anime. But I still never understood how Erwin first found out about Levi. I think Erwin knew about Levi before the story in A Choice with No Regrets. But how did he find out about Levi? And what was Erwin even doing in the Underground City prior to finding out about Levi? I doubt the Underground City is one of the usual places where Erwin would want to go to recruit soldiers for the Survey Corps.

Hope you can help me with some answers, these questions have been haunting me for some time.

Hi Anon! I haven't answered an ask in forever but we can't have you haunted!

While it isn’t explicitly spelled out in the manga, there are clues. The Military Police weren’t an uncommon presence in the Underground. They’d chased Levi and his crew often enough that Levi was familiar with their patterns. It’s likely the stolen 3DMG was their main concern. We know from the manga that the MPs targeted anyone they viewed as a threat to the king, and Levi’s crew, being so skilled with 3DMG despite having no formal training, fit that description. That’s also what Erwin zeroed in on when Levi was finally captured.

One thing we know about Erwin is that he had eyes and ears everywhere. It’s reasonable to think he’d heard from Nile or others about this crew that kept evading capture while using stolen gear with impressive skill. His curiosity led him to the Underground personally. He immediately recognized their potential and saw them as assets for the Survey Corps, so he recruited them.

It’s very in character for Erwin. He always valued skill and potential over background, age, or social status. So it makes sense that he’d venture into the Underground to scout promising talent.

Personally, I prefer the og chats over the Nightbringer chats, while fun, seem to focus mostly on MC's romantic relationship with all the characters, to the point that there's sometimes no way to reject the characters which can get annoying
