today I saw somebody on Reddit post the prologue of their novel, asking if people would read it or not, and it was pretty good aside from halfway down the page where you learn that the main character's name is Speef. Speef the elf.

I've been thinking about Speef for hours. All of the comments were some variation of "hey this was good but Speef is a completely ridiculous name for a serious novel, you should probably change it" and op was like "thank you sm for the feedback. I'm not changing Speef's name and I know you will learn to love Speef once you get to know him"

that guy from the Speef post probably put the double e on the new name of the character bc in Brazilian Portuguese Leonir could be some dude who lives down the street from you. I'm sure I have seen the name Leonir in the client database at my job. so the double e is kinda required to make it more Special(TM) and Fantasy Hero(TM).

I still find it terrible but hey, not my character lol

i looked that shit up and not only does it not get better, but very early in the writing style shifts as the guy clearly. gets tired. and starts shoving. those choppy sentences. into chatgpt. to make it. long enough. to be a book.

At work, I am very silly but also the guy gets important work like checking for mistakes and packing things neatly.

We have plastic bags, that we have to put a few holes in with a tiny hammer with what looks like the ends of nails and everytime I use it, I say to a colleague "Das ist der Hammer!" which means "That's the hammer!" and "That's so cool!" Also I can slap the bags while shoving them into the box.

Or when I take something my colleagues finished and say "Ich klau!" (I steal!)

Also just noises. If I'm not making weird noises my colleagues assume I am unwell. They are correct.
