didn’t your mother teach you not to play with fire, Corvo?
Daud had successfully dealt with a bunch of street kids turned assassins for years, he can manage one more. By inflicting some nap time on him probably

Cool things to do with hanahaki
Reverse the creation requirements. Hate hanahaki (objectively very funny. I loathe you so much my lungs are creating a sunflower about it.)
Make it common. Seasonal hanahaki (when it's more common, I think reducing the creation requirements makes sense. Keeping secrets means a few weeks of flower petals in the spring, and very tired school teachers)
Commit to it. If the creation requirement is unrequited love, then some characters may suffer more for the answer already being no, but others are relieved. Let a character who's confessed to get rid of roses three separate times be baffled by someone actually considering surgery.
Commit to it. Someone decides to get the surgery, but as soon as they make the choice to deprive the other person of any love at all because they don't get the kind they want back, the plant withers and goes away on its own. Because you stopped loving them. Commit to it. The character fakes the surgery anyway because they already decided to hurt the other person, and now they have an excuse for acting cold and uncaring. Commit to it.

2024 Finished Reading List
(I wasn't sure where else to post this except here. Whatever the next social media jump is, I hope we all go back to something a bit more LiveJournal) Anyway! In September 2023 I relocated and my place of work turned out to have the most rotten wifi ever. So instead of getting angry at only ads loading during my breaks, I thought I'd start reading again. I follow the usual pipeline of "kid who used to read a lot of books discovered the Internet and then progressively stopped reading" and have spent the last... decade or so guiltily avoiding an ever-growing to-read pile I told myself to start a list and then post it at the start of 2025. Even if there was only one book on it, that's still one more book than I would've read otherwise. My list is a little longer than one book, thankfully. I also included manga, graphic novels and comics. Because who's going to stop me? The fun police? And sure, I know there are people out there who read more than this in a single month probably, but for me, I'm proud of what I've achieved I won't be keeping a list next year (though I will still be reading), because I worry that if I turn this into a thing it'll kill my desire to read again. But for this year, here's the list of stuff wot I read:
Blink of a Screen by Terry Pratchett Ariadne by Jennifer Saint Seaglass by Gemma Louise Abroad in Japan by Chris Broad Dr. Stone vol 14-16 The Fowl Twins by Eoin Colfer The Fowl Twins Deny All Charges by Eoin Colfer Circe by Madeline Miller Guardian of Fukushima by Ewen Blain & Fabien Grolleau The Fowl Twins Get What They Deserve by Eoin Colfer The Sharpest Thorn by Victoria Audley The Promised Neverland vol 1 Atalanta by Jennifer Saint Elektra by Jennifer Saint The Neverending Story by Michael Ende The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter Usborne Illustrated Stories from the Greek Myths by Various Writers & Artists Devilman by Go Nagai The Long War by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter The Long Mars by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter The Long Utopia by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter The Long Cosmos by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter The Dragon Prince: Puzzle House by Peter Wartman and Felia Hanakata Sue & Tai-chan vol 1 by Konami Kanata The Legend of Korra: Patterns in Time Anthology by Various Writers & Artists Taka by Ryan Jampole Sonic the Comic issue 1-81 (and all specials published between those issues) …And all IDW Sonic comics published between September 2023 and December 2024 I'm currently reading Hera by Jennifer Saint, but didn't finish in time to add it to the list and didn't want to force it. Happy New Year!

My confession for this blog is that Kisumi hasn't been my fave character for a long time (I still like him, he just stopped being my big fave after ES), but changing my icon now would feel wrong Also partly because none of my other sideblogs have pink icons, so it's real easy to switch to the Free! one just by looking for pink

the secret to organising any kind of trip with your friends is to become the benevolent dictator. do NOT wait for everyone to provide a consensus on things before you book anything. do it and then ask for feedback after. do not ask people what they would like to do just tell them what is happening and let them all nod along like the sheep they are. this is the ONLY way to coordinate a group of adults in their 20s/30s

Kinda wild how most people generally recognize that the "too sick to go to school, too sick to watch tv/play games" mindset our parents had was bullshit but still impose essentially the exact same rules on disabled adults and scrutinize them for enjoying low-energy hobbies while being too fatigued or in pain to work a full time job (or any job at all)

People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.
She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.
Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.

so hard not to become the most annoying person on earth if you're a little excitable and just learned a little about a topic literally no one around you has any interest in

Momus and 7, 8 and 9!
7. Does your OC like their natural hair color or do they dye it? What styles do they prefer? Momus's hair is naturally black, like his mother's. Its inclined towards being wavy, but he does care a lot about making it appear effortlessly so and not too curly
8. What was your OC’s most embarrassing moment? Does it still bother them or are they able to shrug it off? Oh, I can pull this one from mythology! Momus's most embarrassing moment is actually not when he got kicked out of Olympus (which would make way too much sense), but instead was when he was caught saying Aphrodite is without flaw. He hates it soooo much that people heard him saying that and now everyone thinks that Aphrodite is beyond even his criticism lol
9. Is your OC laid back or do they thrive on drama? What role do they play in their group of friends/associates? He lives on drama! If there is not drama happening, he is actively making it happen. Because of this, he obviously doesn't have a lot of friends, save for other people who also thrive on drama, so they can all be terrible together. However, his nose for gossip does make him handy amongst associates and even those who hate him will reluctantly admit that they may use him for information from time to time. Whether the information he gives them is reliable or not stems from both how troublesome Momus is feeling at the time and/or how out of his favour that person is

if I were a bee I'd fetishize the idea of a beekeeper clipping my tiny wings so I can't escape (remembers you're not supposed to say shit like that) I mean yesterday I ate two yogurts normally

we do need to revisit the wording of "you can't have your cake and eat it too" because i don't think it clearly enough conveys that it's more that you can't simultaneously retain a cake and also get to consume it (which would render you cakeless). for years i was like But why not....it's my cake....?
