thought about sanji groveling to zeff at the end of baratie as a sign of respect and appreciation for loving and taking care of him when he set sail with the straw hats and sanji pulling down judge to eye level when declaring he has no right to call himself sanjis father because he is not. making himself small and bow his head to show appreciation to the man who raised him and bringing down the man who abused him to eye level so he can disrespect and denounce their relationship. because zeff made him feel important so he wanted to show his unending appreciation by making zeff feel important and judge made him feel worthless and as such the ultimate disrespect to would be to bring them truly eye to eye instead of sanji being physically looked down upon. making a king feel unimportant and like he is on the same level as the child who left he despises. i am so unwell

thinking about robin/sanji parallels. i’m thinking about how robin was told her existence was a crime and how sanji was told his own father wishes he were never born. thinking about how robin grew up believing things would be better if she were dead and how sanji’s father thought him a waste of life. how they were both told that the sea was a vast and big place, that robin would meet friends who would never leave her and that sanji would meet kind people someday and i’m thinking about how robin found her friends and sanji found his kind people in the same place, in a rubber smile and a straw hat. and i’m thinking about how luffy, brave, loyal, unwavering luffy, saw through them, just as he did with nami, even as they yelled at him, insulted him, told him they didn’t want him there, that it was over, because he knows them, better than anyone ever has. i’m thinking about how they were both so willing to sacrifice themselves for their crew, too scared to say what they really wanted out loud because their pasts were weighing down on them to the point they couldn’t breathe and because life taught them they weren’t allowed it, didn’t deserve it and i’m thinking about how luffy, as he always does, proved them both wrong.

PJO fans I love y'all and I'm happy that you found the musical and enjoying it but PLEASE stop saying the only reason Calypso kept Odysseus on the island for 7 years was that she was cursed to love anyone who came to her island, that's is a PJO thing that Rick Riordan wrote in to make the calypso in his version seem more sympathetic😭 like her "curse of love" wasn't even the original Odyssey.

Yeah, her situation is completely shitty but she made the decision herself to keep Odysseus on the island while he cried everyday on shoreline. There is no curse of love whispering to her "Keep him on the island" in her ear.

This reread of Anne of the island, I’m struck when she finds the letters her parents sent each other. Specifically the one about her as a baby.

She was so so so loved. Anne imagines her mother praying and hoping and waiting to meet her little girl, going through the pains of labour, being delighted in her baby, and then being taken away too soon.

Compare this with Anne’s house of dreams where Anne is in the role of mother. Praying and hoping and waiting to meet her little girl, suffering through labour, being delighted in her baby, but this time it’s the baby taken away.

Both times Anne is left bereft.
