not to doublepost or anything but I MADE A TIMEWHEEL FANKID! theres a bunch of info about her below the cut :P

the name "Chrona" wasnt actually just Given to her by the two, he kinda just got bored of being called timewheel all the time (thought it was a mouthful) and asked for help; hence being given the name Chrona. xe kept forgetting it because at the time he was still being sent back and forth from xeir planet and the s*n. HOWEVER after the 500 years it latched on. Chrona's operator was actually Sean. Sean ended up getting ahold of Michael and told her "haha doesnt this guy kinda look like us? thats strange!" WHICH SOUNDS KINDA FUNNY TO ME.. Chrona's s*n wake-up pattern was kind of annoying and chaotic? She's random and can think up solutions to problems shes in rather quickly - but when she cant, she panics. so usually, when it first "wakes up", he looks around and spouts many questions at the first person star sees, which is... usually Sean, which was stars operator! and it can be kind of aggressive too, and will resort to violence when he doesnt get answers in time. BUT she usually calms down as soon as things are explained to her. okay thats enough added stuff. ill retype the info in the drawing in case its hard to see <3 Gender is mostly made up of fluidity in xenogenders (gendersylph) * "pinwheel pieces" are glass containers. pinwheel function can still spin. * Not their biological child (thatd be weird) but gained attachment over time and developed a family-like relationship. * stickers are a gift from Sean + bow is from both of them. Charms and beads are from Michael, which he usually found on the buildings floor(s) - and figured Chrona would like a trinket. * Chrona is a trinket collector! Well, she just takes stuff that she sees is left behind. * Clock handles and gear spin/function like a normal clock. * Glass is thick and more frosted towards the center.

Guess Who?

It’s Timekeeper!!!

Timekeeper started off as an AI The Narrator made to keep track of settings and time after a failed attempt to create a protagonist. A form was built, but was scrapped. When TK gained sentience, he didn’t have the power to do much except mess with the clock and settings. She slowly expanded her power though through the powerful desire to fuck with The Narrator. They weren’t aware of much going on outside of their space until connecting with the computers of the parable where they became aware of Stanley. Xe gains access to the time and space between resets where Xe starts interacting with Stanley and the become partners in crime.

Stanley and TK are great buddies and their favorite activity is messing with The Narrator, made funnier by the fact The Narrator has no clue TK is even there. He does eventually find out though once TK manages to pull its scrapped form out of recycling and fix it and gets caught interacting with Stanley. Stanley and TK also often talk about their false memories and what kinds of lives they would lead in the real world. TK doesn’t really care if he gets to experience the real world, but does admit that it might be fun, and new things means new ideas means new ways to prank The Narrator.

The Narrator and TK have more of a rivalry, with TK thinking The Narrator as a stuck up buzzkill who puts too much value in perfection and meaning, while The Narrator thinks TK is annoying, irresponsible, and irreverent. They aren’t really friends, but they’re not enemies either, and will reluctantly admit when the other may have a point. They’re sort of like roommates and maybe siblings.

TK doesn’t interact with The Curator or Mariella as much, but they’re friends. TK knows how and when to bring the fun to them and they both appreciate it. They all hold more of a sibling dynamic. They all have tea together, chat, and play fight, especially TK and Mariella. The Curator is great at reigning in TK, which can be frustrating when a certain someone starts whining about someone else messing with his game.

More human form

It’s funny to me how many of us, at least initially (and even a little bit now), had a similar idea of how Timekeeper would look with a physical form. I found myself having a lot of difficulty deciding what I wanted them to look like exactly since there’s so many creative designs people have come up with. I was thinking of trying to design a very non-human form for it. One thing that does slightly bother me is that I have that last character for the proctor lineup that is very similar looking, but I’m hoping it’s just different enough so it doesn’t feel too much like I’m copy pasting the same character.

Today's (5/7/2025) Episode: Let's Make a Baby

"Betty? Are you ready to go? It’s time, and I don’t want them to think I’m skipping my appointment again. They could cancel on me and…“

Skye stopped xir nervous ramble when they walked into the living room to find Betty reclining on the couch watching TV, a hot water bottle resting on her stomach. “OH! Are you feeling bad? I can go by myself…" 

"No way Jose" she smiled, turning off the show and getting to her feet "I'm just a little sore from the extraction procedure. Nothing to worry about, and no way I’m missing this after waiting all morning for you to get ready. Now, let's go put those eggs of mine to good use and get you pregnant!"

Arm in arm, the pair strode with purpose towards the entrance. “You ready pardner?” Betty asked as they climbed the steps.

Skye nodded “So ready.” Unlike the time xe’d faced this prospect alone, xe felt no hesitation or panic as they approached the doorway. 

The pair got checked in and were directed to the small waiting area "Peppino will be out to get you shortly" the receptionist promised.

 As they turned Skye's eyes went wide with surprise when xe finally noticed the other pair of sims sitting there "Theo!?”

"Skye!" Theo greeted xem with his usual broad, salesman’s smile "What are the odds!? Considering sims only come here for one reason I don't need to ask what you're doing here, do I?" he chuckled “But, who’s your friend? I don't believe we've met." 

Betty quickly introduced herself. “So, you're Gretchen's dad huh? Are you still the head honcho over at Plumbob Studios?" At Theo’s confirming nod, she smiled. “Well then, my compliments to the “chef”. That mermaid thriller you just released was such a fin-tastic show that I watched it twice.”

As Theo laughed appreciatively at the compliment, his husband finally found his voice, asking Skye pointedly "I could have sworn Gretchen told us your wife's name was Elyse. She never mentioned that you two had split." Theo shot his husband an irritated look at that but didn't comment.

Betty was missing the subtext of the conversation, but always fearless, jumped in before Skye could answer. "Nope, Elyse is still xir wife, but she’s back home, so xe’s making do with xir baby momma as company today. It’s a bit complicated."

Sullivan started to say more but this time Theo cut him off "That's enough." After an awkward pause he continued "Given the success rate around here congratulations will almost certainly be in order for you soon, so I'll go ahead and give them now. Will this be your first?" 

Skye nodded "Congratulations yourself on becoming grandparents. I saw Valeria when I visited Gretchen just before my trip, she's adorable." Xe paused then, unsure how to proceed. Xe finally settled on "So… what brings you two to Selvadorada?"

"Like you I'm here for work, but I have some time to play" Theo replied. "We're scouting locations for a new movie, and I came out to handle the negotiations. Brought the husband with so we could turn it into a working vacation.”

“As to what brings us “here””… he gestured around the clinic "being granddads was so much fun we decided to have another one of our own! In my line of work rejuvenation potions are easy to come by, so we reset the clock, and Sullivan is having the baby this time. It's his turn after all.” 

Following Theo's declaration Skye finally noticed that Sullivan was wearing a comfortable looking outfit similar to xir own, suitable for the “Immediate Expansion” he knew to expect if the procedure was successful.

"Congratulations again then!" Skye finally said, "That's so exciting." I guess they patched things up, if they're having another baby. Good for them. 

"Thank you" Theo smiled “Our little ones will be the exact same age, if all goes well. We’ll have to get together for a playdate sometime!"

Sullivan looked mildly horrified by that, but Skye only nodded in agreement, even though the thought made xem uncomfortable as well. What am I going to do, say no!? He's my friend. Besides, I don't think Theo knows I had anything to do with Sullivan coming clean about the affair… 

Before the conversation could get any more awkward Skye was overjoyed to see Peppino approaching.

"Skye, welcome!" the ancient scientist greeted warmly “You two can come right this way." As Skye and Betty stood, he turned back towards the others "Misters Mercer, it’s a pleasure to see you both again as well. Dr. Sanchez should be right with you."

“I’m so sorry for flaking on my last appointment,” Skye began as Peppino led them into a small procedure bay. “I just…”

“Think nothing of it,” the immortal mage said, waving off xir concern. “Cold feet are understandable. Gave me an excuse to check in here and sneak in a little adventuring. I donated this tiny golden frog I found in a temple to No Sim Left Behind. Totally worth it!”

“I wanted to thank you” Betty chimed in. “That Chillio spell you taught me came in clutch when my boyfriend broke his ankle.”

“Yup, you never know what fate’s got planned, but every skill and spell you learn gives you more options.” He smiled. “Helping in those big moments feels incredible. That’s why I love this clinic. Now then Skye, let’s make you a new little sim or three!”

“The “candidates” are all ready to go” he told the pair “Several of them looked very hearty, so you should be prepared for the possibility of multiples. Betty, you can head back to the waiting room; I’ll have my assistant let you know when we’re done. It should only take about an hour.”

“Good luck” Betty leaned over and gave her nervous friends hand a gentle squeeze “Hey... how is being pregnant like being a kid again?”

Skye’s eyebrows lifted quizzically, inviting her to complete the joke. “There’s always someone else telling you what to do!” She grinned as xe laughed, the tension in xir face visibly relaxing. “Alright buddy, I’ll see you soon.” She flashed xem a silly little finger wave, walking back the way they’d come.

A swirl of warm emotions Skye chose not to name floated the sedated sim happily along as Peppino and his team moved around xem. When I wake up, I might be pregnant… with mine and Ely… Betty’s… baby xe thought drowsily as xe fell into a deep and dreamless sleep.

I use the IVF feature of Woohoo Wellness for my “Sixam Science” inseminations, but I always bring my sims to a place I’ve setup for the procedure to “happen” in-game and get pictures before sending them off to the rabbithole.

I placed this clinic down as a room on the 64x64 museum lot, and when I showed up with Skye and Betty, I found Sullivan and Theo already there! The opportunity to use their presence in the story was just too good to pass up.

Starting off strong with Xena taking the majority of books off of Rui and when she’s like I can take five more, he side eyes her like how are you fr rn 👀 but also blushing cause damn xe that is kind of hot. (Rui still has a giant pile of books tho, Lyca is reading a ridiculous amount.)

There were no cases this week so Xena thought maybe it was time to check out the new books, (something she does every week when she has the time.)

But she’s also internally sighing as she adds another gold sticker to reasons Haku could be the traitor as he’s literally been in three houses and ones literally shut down-the other has the most depressed captain ever and the third has a shady captain who doesn’t agree with Darkwick.

Not the hotarubi student being scared of both Xena and Rui 😭the reaper and the detective.

Xena is half surprised Haku never told her, she avoids hotarubi in case she runs into Subaru, although she enjoys hanging with Zenji and Haku.

Rui 🤝 Xena being friends with the librarian (Xena is always at the library getting info for cases/best wifi)

Not Xena twirling her hair and having a warm tone when she says hi Haku, Rui is like 🔴 👄 🔴 r u kiddin.

(She does this all with the iconic poker face •_•)

Literally clocks the fact that Haku 1000% stalked followed them there and had been waiting to do a meet-cute.

Is like Haku •_•, do you have find my friends? She meant it as a jokingly flirt but her deadpan delivery made it hard to tell making it hard for Haku to tell if she was flirting or threatening (he’s into both)

Literally snorted when she listened to Rui and Haku banter, (someone help Xena she’s on the floor and can’t get up) this also adds to Rui adding on you never laugh at my jokes 😭what is this favouritism from the both of you.

Was about to make a joke on how she won’t have to repeat a year cause she doesn’t have another year but thought better of it, was lowkey searching for reaper info as well as her and Rui are cursed twins fr.

A Bit annoyed at being told to come with as she legit just wanted to find some info, would’ve fought back on it if she wasn’t flabbergasted by Rui’s excuse, a blatant lie, her deadpan pans even deeper as he nervously laughs and gives a half hearted apology.

On the way there she does call him out like maybe you should become my partner…in investigation of course 😏 since you did so well in hunting me down and getting me alone! She does this with a poker face once again and Haku is like 🥰whatever you say princess, please don’t kill me 🖤.

She does text Leo to let him know she’s on a mission with hotarubi, who she has to mute after he sends a barrage of Qs to uncover about Subaru.

Haku and Xena banter and flirt until they hear Zenji sing, Xena closing her eyes as his unique voice met her ears. She let a small smile slip before greeting Zenji.

She immediately covers it back up with a poker face tho, getting distracted by the wisteria as Haku drags her away from it.

As they ran in the rain she could feel her heartbeat banging inside her chest as Haku lead away, insanely amused by zenji’s comments as it followed them.

Actually starts to get a bit worried about Subaru cause wtf is this guy? She almost had a mini heart attack when he actually responded to her and Haku, lowkey lets out a sigh of relief that she didn’t realise she was holding in.

She’s literally drooling over the dango, lazily sat at the table with Haku and Zenji by her sides. She actually sits more upright and proper when Subaru enters, his gracefulness is weirdly inspiring.

Told Subaru to chill because there’s literally no way he’s imposing, these are his friends. It got a bit awkward after that and she was gonna offer to get Subarus snacks but Zenji and Haku beat her to the punch.

They’re awkwardly in silence Zenji not even noticing as Xena distracted herself by reading the investigation papers and drinking her tea.

High key, so excited to go to yumeyashiki, it was somewhere she and Cathrine had planned to go to before she got cursed and kidnapped by Darkwick. Also, feeling very melancholy about that fact.

Xena’s face when Zenji dropped the depressing lore 👁️👄👁️ I would die for you Zenji and we will get you on a rollercoaster; very much down with Haku’s plan and very much wants Subaru and Zenji to enjoy it all.

Is super encouraging of Haku to influence and get their fun day out, tries to help encourage the other two like pls. •_•

Gets chills when she realises she’s gonna have to work, gets flashbacks from when Cathrine and herself had to step in at Cathrine’s uni’s haunted house after they all challenged Xena to a drinking contest…and lost 😞. Literally, miserably recounts the occasion to the trio when Haku asks if she can clown it up with them.

Xena turning on the deadpan charm when she’s in the interview, jarring everyone involved as her and Subaru become the two favourites.

She actually starts to respect/appreciate subaru after she’s sees him act, is actually insanely impressed by it but won’t say it outloud otherwise Leo would materialise and berate her for it.

Tells the director horrific stories from cases that relate to old ghost legends , Haku 🤝 Xena double charisma x2

After they review everything, Xena makes her way back to vagastrom, needing to work out and sort out her thoughts on what she’s learnt about Subaru as a person.

She receives a call from Ed, halfway through her sparring session, hanging up quickly when he demands her assistance leaving poor Lyca to deal with it.

Xena with the blankest look in her face when Haku said they could look around after their shift.

“I would die for you.” •_•

Haku giving her an awkward thumbs up.

Xena inwardly screaming crying throwing up slamming her fists on the ground when Subaru stopped Haku’s flirting.

She just finger guns and stubbornly and bitterly announces she’ll meet them at the house. She and Zenji both took the longest, Xena wanting her makeup to be perfectly done, actually fangirls over Zenji’s look much to his delight.

The director even gives xe a special cane that she can hide in her sleeve so she can be more comfortable getting around.

Tries to play it cool with Haku but even Subaru can see the heart eyes in her usually blank look. (She very much likes the ghost look and lowkey wants to ask if she can grab a pic of him)

Gets Subaru to give her a more in depth description as to what she should do via makeup-outfits and everything. Like Subaru wants to make it an authentic experience. The two bond over it and slowly become closer.

She wonders if the director could see Zenji and even questioned Haku on this who had no clue.

Xena in pure calm bliss as she walks through the haunted house, living her dreams and noting down decor details for her room. (She’s a goth girly what do you expect, when I went to a haunted house I literally did the same and took pics of all the things I liked for inspo 😭)

Haku:so is this what our house is going to be like princess 😉 😏

Subaru(not realising Haku was talking to Xena):I don’t think the gen students would appreciate the redecoration to our house’s dorm 😞🤨

When that hand reached out to grab her she accidentally punched Haku hard in the stomach causing the poor guy to double over 🫠

Is looking at him more suspiciously cause etf was all that about, but also if you see Xena being manipulated by a green haired man don’t try to help her she’s exactly where she wants to be.

Even Subaru asks her if she’s okay as she thinks about how her spider Lillie’s has grown down her back, she could almost feel them burning her skin as she stared at the flower.

Tells Zenji to do the last one with Haku as he won’t have to deal with the rest of the scares.

Also adds to her mental list that she needs to take Jiro and Yuri here. The taller of the two would defo enjoy it.

Lowkey sneaks away so she can see Subaru act and is like holy shit dude is tapped, very much warming up to Subaru through this process.

She actually enjoys the job and is feeling a lil sad that this will have to end

Haku 🤝 xena the chillest Mfs to ever ride the rollarcoasters.

Xena is wearing her big chunky boots so gets away with the height limits(not that-that stops the others teasing her.)

Shows off to Leo and Sho that she’s having fun, now Leo is demanding she takes him when she’s free from this mission (as well as all info on Subaru sppspsps)

On the shift where the wind comes in, Xe is literally chewing her hands at the fact she can’t go investigate.

Afterwards When it’s just Subaru and Xena waiting, they’re both awkwardly looking at eachother oh ahah hello. 👋 when they overhear the convo she’s like hmmm 🤔 S U S P I C I O U S, and Subaru is like maybes it a another haunted house and Xena is literally like pls don’t ruin this for me pretty boy.

Subaru (aka number one Xena simp)- pretty boy🥹🥰…

She tells him about the wind and when he tells her he didn’t hear anything she is once again like S U S P I C I O U S!

Xena gets more excited when everyone arrives and she recounts the tale and realises no one else heard the wind…she’s about to walk back into the haunted house to see what will approach her after realising the wind only targeted her and Haku is literally holding onto her collar like ^_^ no.

(Also if you’d like to know Xena’s casual look for this mission, it’s a block cropped button up shirt with green leaves embroidered in and black flared trousers with more leaves and vines embroidered in as well as silver plant charms on the waist; she also has a dark green walking cane with her and a black leather jacket with massive chunky black boots)

The next day when they’re meeting for lunch, Xena immediately snaps a pic of Haku eating the onigiri. Her face was scarily concentrating as she did so, scaring Haku slightly but sighed in defeat as he saw the happy sparkle in her eyes. (She sends the photo to Leo, who is Haku simp no.2 but lowkey)

With the slogan she just quickly made one up like Haku did, more excited to hear what Zenji will do instead.

Xena eyeing Subaru suspiciously when he wouldn’t write it, but allowed the suspicion to drop cause Cathrine was the same in her anxious ways.

Xena 🤝 Haku helping Subaru eat his burger.

Xena starts thinking maybe he’s not evil he just has such lethal anxiety it makes his vibes nefarious.

Subaru stopping Xena from lashing out at the director for not choosing zenji’s slogan.

Her shift goes fine until it’s time for the anomalies to sprout out, Answers the phone furiously and tells them to fuck off, when she looks up to see the kid she literally launches her phone full pelt at him. Still wearing a poker face and completely silent, Subaru didn’t know what was more scarier the ghost or Xena.

When Haku says there’s too many ghost children too pick just one out, Xena’s like hold on 🤔 isn’t that strange? Even for a fairground? Haku and Zenji noted it down but Haku says it’s kind of normal? For a place that’s been opened for so long.

Xena when she sees how quickly Subaru gathered the info and organised it…are you looking for a part time job perhaps…one as an assistant detective.

Looks through it and is insanely impressed by what he’d done, the mind is being flipped again, she’s like oh maybe he’s not too bad. Agrees with Zenji in complimenting Subaru surprising everyone.

Takes pictures of his comics(with permission) cause she wants to research more and they’re good references (tells him so and everyone is surprised when Subaru turns bright red.)

Reads another story out and does it in a similar way to Haku.

Xena sliding in when Haku says he doesn’t watch tv, I could show you a few things •_•, she can’t wink so blinks oddly at him and Haku’s like 😜😻

Haku disappointed when Xena had a umbrellla already 😞

Haku being nicely surprised when it turns out to be a massive black umbrella with enough room for two people. Tried to hold it for the both of them but she’s way too short and luckily Haku puts xe out of her misery and holds it for the both of them.

Silently cheering she gets a chance to walk with Haku alone.

Xena always has to know everything and so she questions Haku just like it goes in the story. Already knew he was in Frostheim, wants to ask if he misses it but doesn’t want an awkward vibe. They carry on talking for a while and Xena leaves the umbrella with him.

The next day she’s happy they have half a day; it gives her time to investigate the case and she encourages Zenji to go home and write as well.

Xena and Subaru bouncing off eachother with theories and speculations as they slowly realise the caller came later than the other ghosts.

It was all going so well until those two girls piped up and now Xena’s intrigue is targeted directly at Subaru, much to his dismay.

Was about to put a stop to to the girls taking a photo (xena bodyguard x actor Subaru au anyone?)when Haku smoothly slides in distracting the girls as Xena leads Subaru away. Gets candy floss for Subaru in an awkward way to stop him being upset, as they quietly ate the floss she mentally adds investigating the rumours to the list of the many things she needs to do. As well as informing Leo about this development…though she wants to get the full picture before she does.

They leave because Haku needs a nap(same king but also what a good friend for quickly getting Subaru back.)

Xena’s face 👁️ 👄 👁️ when Zenji said he doesnt want to miss a friends sos again, her board of Darkwick mysteries is gonna need another extender.

Xena cooly covers for Zenji, who flustered at Haku’s questioning. She kept up her Pokerface as she sat at the table awaiting to find out what’s going on. She could tell something was up but didn’t want to say too much just yet.

She did her own research but it was hard to come up with anything truly concrete.

Impressed at how quickly they gathered the info, her mind quickly adding everything up as she read on.

Snorted outloud when Haku said maybe. In response to Haku’s words to Subaru and realised what he was doing so she played along, it got a bit weird cause Subaru blushed when Xena said something and Haku had to end the lesson there like Subaru that’s what you think in your head(Haku very much was like let’s skate past how you responded to xe.)

When Haku walks her back home and he makes the dig about it being insensitive to research Subaru, she outwardly winces, knowing that is exactly what she did as soon as she was able.

She literally looks at him like are you deadass do you think a little Scandal like that is gonna keep me away? Absolutely not. Though, she does try to find out more about Subaru’s past now that she had confirmation of the events (kind of it’s still only from Haku’s research.)

The next days when it’s the afternoon shift, she calmly Answers the phone and only starts to panic when she realises she was almost bamboozled by the ghost when she thought it was Haku.

Is trying to fight the ghost with her cane when Subaru flies in with his parasol and they’re both like oh gods we can’t acc hit it.

Xena’s face when the kid pointed at the floor like S U S P I C I O U S.

When they get back Subaru and Xena are working quietly together, Haku and Zenji are watching slightly mystified as the two quietly drink their tea. Reading through the research material as they silently hand eachother files that match up together.

When they reach the haunted house once more, Xena was in deep thought thinking that they were missing something, she was so lost in it she nearly missed Subaru’s hesitance catching it just in the nick of time as she encourages him to talk.

Pleasantly surprised as that was the thing she felt was missing, she couldn’t help her excitement as all the pieces lined up together.

They act out their plan, catching the kid in his act.

Had never been more happy than when the ghost kids captured their killer. Had a terrifyingly gleeful smile on her face, unnerving Zenji.

Whilst finishing the rest of the files to finally end the case, Xena and Subaru find the majority of the children’s names and bones, trying their best to alert the families so they can ascertain some peace for themselves (even if some were 30-40 years too late) They used Subaru’s stigma and Xena’s detectives skills to do so.

Didn’t go to lessons went back to her room in vagastrom and crashed tf out.

Decided to not tell Leo what she knew…for the moment, needs to delve in more and get the correct information before she gives Leo ammo to harrass Subaru.

She was planning to sneak away and get some lunch from Sho when she stumbles across Lyca, she did tell him off for breaking a promise when they both spotted Subaru under the severance tree.

Xena felt chills run down her spine, everything in her that told her how dangerous Subaru actually was but she couldn’t still quite pinpoint what it was, she narrowed her eyes as she texted Leo to grab her lunch for her, not wanting the influencer to catch sight of this as she wanted to uncover this mystery herself….

Leo is literally frothing at the mouth with jealousy and Sho has to chill him out. Leo is absolutely convinced that Subaru is going to steal both Sho and Xena away from him. Doesn’t mind Haku because he too is a simp for him fr.

Cathrine 🧪

Cathrine and Rui walking side by side as they carry Lyca’s books, Cathrine feeling lowkey super guilty cause she’s the one who helped Lyca acquire all those books as well as giving him even more to read.

The two discussing Lyca like they’re his parents, guys pls, both of them shaking their heads like gee I guess he’s at that age.

Cathrine standing behind Rui looking slightly murderous as she glares down at the hotarubi student (it’s not his fault but he should look where he’s going.) she just doesn’t want Rui to get emotionally traumatised…again.

They both smoothly gloss over the trauma and talk about having a library date, Cathrine even suggests some….unique (banned) books that the librarian got in for her, thinking they may have some info on both of their curses.

They talk down the librarian and Cathrine even convinces her to lift the ten book ban for Lyca and her, promising she’ll teach the boy to return his books on time.

They eagerly discuss their study date plans when Haku slides in.

Banter gang, bouncing off eachother as Cathrine starts gathering books, sliding into the chair next to Rui as Haku flirts away.

She is genuinely touched that Haku is apparently studying her curse, even pulling out her own research and book suggestions as she starts asking him what he’s read so far so they can cross reference, Rui becoming impressed by how easily Haku avoids answering and distracts Cathrine instead.

The hotarubi student comes running, ending the conversation abruptly, saving Haku with coming up with something and increasing Rui’s suspicions.

Cathrine was annoyed and showed it about having to do another mission especially when she had to ditch Rui. Only feeling slightly better when he gives the half hearted excuse, she of course enjoys hanging out with Haku but pspspspsp research. 🔬 especially pspspspspspspsppspsps research with Rui.

(I also read a headcannon thing about having them as your lock screen and they find out and it was super cute-if I find/remember who wrote it I’ll reblog along with this cause it was so cute but anyway her lock screen would be Rui as a butler.)

So excited to see Zenji it’s ridiculous, literally runs out from the umbrella to sit with him to look at the flowers dragging Haku with her as the two get soaked by the rain.

Something she immediately regrets once she realises it’s actually quite warm at hotarubi(cries in curly hair.) she immediately ties it up with hopes it’ll keep it tame.

Cathrine with heart eyes looking at the wisteria trees as Haku drags her away from it holding onto her collar like no, it literally takes people and she’s like pspsps people eating wisterias.

Have you ever seen the anime where the guy holds the blazer over the two of them and they then run for their lives, that’s Haku and Cathrine.

Always Keeps medicine in her bag for emergencies and leaves it outside of Subaru’s door, has a soft spot for anxious Subaru, literally the meme of I’ve only had Subaru for a day and a half and if anything happens to him I’ll kill everyone and then myself.

Cathrine starts assigning seasons to the ghouls whilst they eat their dango. (Haku being spring-Subaru being winter-she’s summer and Zenji is fall.)

She also only drinks cold drinks so Haku has to put ice in her cup, Subaru does not approve.

Her eyes are literally sparkling when she hears where the mission is.

Yumeyashiki was a place Xena and Cathrine were planning to go to after she gets emancipated from her parents, the reality of going with out Xena felt bittersweet.

Subaru 🤝 Zenji 🤝 Cathrine, never been to an amusement park.

Haku looks at them like damn yall didn’t have a good childhood.

She’s surprised Haku even suggested it, usually a stickler for the rules.

Is absolutely buzzing about being a haunt actor, recounts a side quest herself snd Xena did with fondness, excited to clown it up even more.

(This chapter very much bittersweet reminiscing her times with Xena, she is very much missing her bestie.)

Cathrine ends the night by going back to her lab/cathedral and sneakily FaceTimes Xena like 😭😭😭GET CURSED BY SOMETHING SND COME TO DARKWICK PLEASE, and Xena is like wrf are you talking about bestie.

During the interview Cathrine is in her element, a position where she has to impress someone and people please.

Easily breezes through the questions with poise, gets awkward when the director recognises her last name and is like what is a rich kid like you doing here? And she’s like ah yes the horror club is why of course ahahahahha.

Starry eyed when Subaru started performing, director 🤝 Subaru 🤝 Cathrine delving into deep convo about the Lore.

Nearly spiralling into it again when the gang meets up again.

Excited for her first shift and for the actual mission.

Cathrine gave Ed the money for the running machine 😮‍💨 (sozz Lyca)

Goes into a spiral and starts researching everything she can about the park and Japanese stories that spiral leads her down a rabbit hole and she ends up not sleeping and it helps with her ghostly performance.

When they all meet up at the oark the gang minus Haku are all in awe at the place.

(Cathrine’s casual outfit is a light pink button up, a dark pink checkered skirt with Pink chunky trainers and white thigh high socks and an oversized light brown jacket.)

Almost cheer in happiness when Haku says he’s worked out something with Darkwick.

Subaru and Cathrine are geeking out together, practically skipping to the director.

Cathrine was way too excited to get into her costume, taking way too many selfies and sending them over to Rui and gang.

Cathrine had to get help with her wig, the struggle was quite real but it was strange seeing herself in a wig, she lowkey loved it and was tempted to dye it for just a moment.

Literally takes so many photos of Haku and a couple of Subaru.

Haku of course took the op to flirt at 100% with Cathrine, Subaru’s side eye was extremely strong.

When Subaru told her she had it the wrong way, Cathrine who has literally had it ingrained into her she cannot get anything wrong and has to be the best, almost threw up in her mouth and went bright red and had to be like ahahah that’s so totally cool and I will have a normal reaction to this fact.

Luckily Zenji distracted them all as he announced himself.

The fangirl was strong in Cathrine at that moment.

Whilst they’re walking through the haunted house, Haku takes the chance to slide his hand into Cathrine’s, brushing a thumb over her knuckles to help keep her calm or more so to stop her from checking out the mechanisms behind the scares. He could see her literally frothing at the mouth to tear things apart and put them back together again.

Cathrine’s favourite was the water room despite the flowers it still made her feel eerily calm.

Literally felt ill when she felt whatever that shadow was grabbing onto her, when she realises it’s Haku she assumes it’s something to do with his pact and powers. Doesn’t pry but doesn’t let it slide, keep its in the list of things she wants to ask Haku about.

Cathrine gets antsy when Subaru says about the spider lilies, can barely keep still and is walking around with an unnerving energy. She can’t keep still at the best of times let alone when she’s anxious.

Is jealous of Haku’s placement, looks super comfy and chill.

Has a lot of fun scaring people helps her get sll the nervous energy out.

Cathrine locking tf in to get as much fun as she can in those few hours, texting pics to Xena as she does.haku sneakily tries to get her to sit next to him on all the rides and is only 25% successful due to Subaru sliding in.

Cathrine deducing that the wind is 100% supernatural as she acts like a sniffer dog in uncovering what’s going on, gets it all confirms when Subaru confirms he didn’t hear it either.

Haku and Cathrine get the same lunch, she’s literally like 🥹🥹you’re the onigiri is so cute.

Has no idea what to do for a slogan (she’s a scientist not a creative.)

Offers to write down zenji’s slogan but they stop her halfway through when they realise her writing is illegible. (She’s got the doctor writing.)

She’s tries to help Subaru but she literally eats burgers with a knife and fork. (This fact actually cheers Subaru up)

They hand their slogans over and Cathrine’s is unreadable, they’re all surprised when Haku’s chosen.

Literally, has a slight panic attack when the phone call comes through. Flashbacks to the train coming through, when she sees the kid it snaps her out of freeze mode and makes a run for it crashing into Subaru as she drags him back over to where the ghost kid was.

When they’re back at Darkwick, the only thing that cheers up Cathrine is the fact they have loads of research to do.

Whilst they’re figuring out what to do research wise/case wise, Cathrine is flabbergasted at Haku’s lack of tv watching, already planning a tv/movie night with him, they almost get off task if it weren’t for Zenji getting them back on track.

When Haku meets her to walk her back home, Cathrine smoothly stands next to him umbrella held up high as they lock arms excitedly. Since Cathrine’s tall it’s easier for her to hold it over the two of them, the umbrella tilted more haku’s way as rain water hits her shoulder (pspsps one of my fave things in romance mangas.)

They chatter about an abundance of things as they wander back to the cathedral, Cathrine handing him the umbrella when they get there and that’s when he realises her shoulder got soaked and is like princess

The question of Haku’s previous house blinks in her head and she’s like OH YEAH.

Immediately guesses he was in Frostheim but only because Thoma is a snitch at the worst of times.

The next day she Brings things from the lab to test out capturing and baiting the anomalies, and Haku is like princess I appreciate this but that giant glowing tube is a bit suspicious looking we’re undercover and she’s like oh :(

The two girls calling out Subaru is an even worse situation because Cathrine is kind of famous (family and Instagram wise) so it’s kind of a scandal plus scandal situation.

The girls talk about how Cathrine’s his next victim/taking advantage of her and it’s just not nice, talking about Subaru’s abuse scandal and Cathrine’s conflict with her family…Haku is lowkey fuming.

Literally drags Subaru away with all her might and the two of them silently hide away.

Extremely glad when Haku says it’s time to go back as he needs a nap, goes into her makeshift lab to continue in a random project to distract herself up until Haku calls her back to hotarubi.

Follows along with zenji’s shenanigans but doesn’t reveal what happened to Zenji, tries to say without revealing anything so he knows what he needs to, for supporting Subaru.

Hands over some sweets to Subaru when they get to the tearoom, picking them up on the way to the dorm, she hands Haku some as well.

About to throw hands when Haku starts talking shit but immediately clocks what he’s doing and Is like I’ll let it slide…just this once.

Keeps an open mind about what Haku told her in regards to Subaru, knows how badly rumours spiral 🌀 so of course isn’t going to believe it point blank.

After her shift on the fourth day dread literally fills her as she’s like gang am I cooked? As she gets surrounded by all the anomalies. Doesn’t have her usual tonics or acid as she’s in costume.

Does freeze like the mc and is literally like Subaru my king 😭😭when he comes in swinging.

Hates the ghost kid just because he has vile vibes and doesn’t like that he only appears in front of her and Subaru. She prefers the lab over acc field work and that creepy little kid reminds her of that fact.

Whilst subaru goes through all the evidence, cathrine starts reading through all the autopsys, something didn't seem right with their theory she just couldn't put her finger on it. She went through all the evidence again with subaru, who's brow seemed furrowed as they reviewed the autopsy against the stories, cathrine going into each adn every detail with subaru as Haku analysed the rest of the stuff Moby sent over.

On the night of investigation, cathrine encourages Subaru to speak his piece, leading to the capture of the child.

She is once again reminded how much she hates field work when she becomes face to face with the weird kid. Very glad for Zenji's existence as he protected her from the ghost.

Subaru used Cathrine's analysis of the autopsy to help assist in his conclusion.

Cathrine was currently spiralling about where the ghosts all went and how they dealt with the serial killer.

One that Haku had to snap her out of.

She's one hundred percent going to take advantage of the fact they'll be keeping an eye on the amusment park, she'll try to arrange to meet Xena there, wanting nothing more than to see her friend before she dies.

Is planning to go back to Obscuary to crash out in her room, (and drag Rui with her for socially distanced snuggling)

She meets up with Lyca, feels a little guilty that Lyca has to carry around the running machine, shocked that Subaru isn't around with Lyca.

Is too shocked about what subaru said to even come up with something to say to Lyca.

Literally had to be stopped running after Subaru cause wtf are you doing underneath that severence tree son?

Does go to crash out at obscuary after Subaru manages to disappear, ends up stress smoking nearly a pack of cigs after having to hold back from smoking as much as she usually does not wanting to annoy the hotarubi gang.

Ok so Bagel was really only supposed to be in like, a couple of scenes in the game. I only kinda invented him because I thought the idea of twins named Donut and Bagel Torus was kinda cute, and then it spiraled, lol. (I also think black trans men with little scruffy beards and mini dreads are cute and hot, but that's unimportant). I also just kinda liked the idea of identical twins who transitioned their genders in different directions and ended up looking very different as adults. He's a little taller than Donut, partially because Donut's legs are more heavily atrophied than his, and partially because his testosterone made him grow an inch or two.

Ideally, Bagel would call up Jade at the beginning of the game to reach Donut, telling xer that xe can't just bedrot forever and needs to try dating, or maybe getting a job to avoid all that depressing blursday blah that Donut constantly has to deal with. He'd also be in any wedding scene that Donut could unlock in an ending. Probably say something like "This is weird as shit, but you're my big sibling, and I support the hell out of you."

Though if he does end up having actual dialogues, I might have to give him sprites instead of just CG drawings like I planned to give him for the phone conversation scene. He'd look so cute in a wedding appropriate suit, though, so I'm not complaining.

Bagel is a few minutes younger than Donut, and always looked up to xer. Donut is a misanthrope, but has always had a much stronger sense of self than Bagel. Donut came out as maverique and started going by Donut before Bagel came out as a trans man, and xer coming out gave him the courage to come out, too. He picked the name Bagel to match Donut's new name, too. Their deadnames matched too, and I had them written down in a discord chat, but I deleted the chat and forgot the names. I know they were like, Cadence or Melody or Harmony or something, but I'm not exactly sure and I can't remember which was which. It's probably not important.

Bagel is diagnosed as autistic, but only got his diagnosis because Donut got xers and they decided to test him too. He's pretty passable, and just acts like a stereotypical "nerd" or "dork" that most NTs wouldn't clock as autistic. He's nervous around girls (and some conventionally hot guys), he's really into D&D, high fantasy series, and space opera movies. All his friends are stereotypical nerds, too, and they meet up at the gaming cafe regularly to play D&D. (in case you were wondering, Bagel's D&D character is a half orc half elf cleric who was raised as a humble nun before he transed his gender and went on to join an adventure party with the blessing of his god of choice as part of his spirit quest to save the world and spread religion. Bagel originally wanted to play a paladin with holy armor, but he was only really interested in playing a character with a heavily religious background, and his party convinced him to play a cleric instead because they needed one)

Bagel has muscular dystrophy, like Donut, but he doesn't usually use crutches. He does wear braces in his shoes to keep his feet straight, though, which sometimes makes walking really uncomfortable. He has to skip out on more active activities with his friends, and sometimes overexerts himself so that they don't think he's lame. His friends wouldn't think he's lame if he had to bail on activities because he's too tired, though. They love him.

Bagel and Donut were not raised religious, despite having a lot of Judaism on their mother's side of the family. Bagel is still fascinated by religion, and loves watching movies where God or gods and godlike entities are portrayed as enormous and inhumanly beautiful humanoids. His favorite is Ponyo's mom from Ponyo, since he watched that movie as a kid and never shook the image of Ponyo's parents from his head.

If you asked Bagel what his ideal partner would be like, he'd probably say a cute girl or guy who respects him for who he is, and who he can watch movies with and then rant about those movies to, but his actual ideal partner would be a goddess who would close him in her ethereal and impossibly strong yet soft hands, let him see the wind and the warmth and the water, and help him understand that everything can once and always be truly okay.

He's also an Xbox gamer. He likes open world RPGs like Skyrim.

Conlang year 2025 · Day 19 - 23

In these next few prompts we'll be coining a bunch of roots, but I think I need to consider the surrealistic elements of the language before coining roots because I want this language to be pretty different from natlangs, so I'll spend the first part of this post talking about ideas I have for this conlang before we actually move on to the prompts.

I may also change my mind and end up trying to make something completely different down the line if I don't feel satisfied with the result, I'm just experimenting with ideas right now.

Surrealistic elements:

The main idea I have is that I want this language to be inspired by octopuses (my favorite animal!) since the setting and creature design I made for this project already takes a lot of inspiration from sea animals I think that idea fits.

In David Peterson's essay about surrealistic conlangs he talks about how you can combine different things that are normal on their own and end up with a result that is unrealistic, in the same way that a lot of surrealistic paintings combine realistic things (like clocks and melting) to produce a result that is otherworldly (like the melting clock painting called "persistence of memory"), for example you could combine verbal conjugations and clocks to come up with a system where you conjugate verbs based on the time of day. I'm basically trying to use this approach by combining aspects of the language with octopuses.

So you know how octopuses have 9 brains? one on the head and one for each tentacle, I'm not a biologist, maybe that's not actually accurate, it might just be one of those factoids that gets passed around online but regardless, the idea that each of an octopus' tentacles has a mind of its own and can behave independently is very interesting to me.

The dream angels have multiples of 3 in different parts of their bodies, so imagine if every time you say a sentence in this language there's 3 independent messages that are being conveyed, that's actually another idea that David talks about in his essay (as a way to replicate an effect achieved in cubist art rather than surrealistic art, but whatever) I think that fits here with the multiple brain concept, so I'll use it even if I didn't come up with it on my own.

This might mean that roots have more than one meaning and so things can be interpreted in multiple different ways depending on which definition you're thinking of, e.g.

k͡ǃu˨˩˧ - ground, emotion, tool

Or maybe roots can be broken down into different components that mean different things, e.g.

plaw˥˨.ɸe˧ - ground, emotion, tool

In this case looking at all the consonants in the sentence will yield one meaning, looking at all the vowels and tones will yield another, and looking at both of them combined will yield yet another meaning. It would probably be useful if each of the meanings is pretty different from the rest, and the first two meanings should probably be more broad because their inventories are a lot more limited, whereas the last one could be more specific.

Or perhaps there's 3 word orders that apply to every sentence. Imagine if verbs and nouns look the same, so whether a word is a noun or a verb is entirely dependent on word order, in that case you might end up with something like this:

ɬa˧ ti˨˩˧.xe˧ ʈi˥˨ SVO: dog eat bone (i.e. a dog eats a bone) VOS: bark consumption bone (i.e. a bone barks at consumption) OSV: dog consumption support (i.e. consumption supports a dog)

Out of all of these options the 3rd one seems like a more original approach (I imagine something like it has been done before, but I haven't seen it before) but I might go with the second option because it will allow me to do something else with the lexicon.

People have made languages with no verbs (like Sylvia Sotomayor's Kēlen) or languages where all nouns are also verbs (like Pete Bleackley's Iljena) and I'm sure all sorts of things like this have been done before, but it could still be fun to experiment with it a bit.

I think it'd be interesting to make a language where most words are modifiers and you only have a small number of nouns and/or verbs, so it might take more words to say things, you have to paint a picture in order to communicate, you have to be descriptive, and in a way that feels a bit more dreamlike to me, like you're looking at vague concepts, as if everything is blurring together, not as clear as reality.

I imagine it would be interesting if you want to say something like "dog" and so the way you do it is like this:

fluffy loyal sharp animal

So there's just one noun that means "animal" or "living being" and to specify that you're talking about a dog you have to add adjectives, which show a more subjective view and make you emphasize certain aspects, you can't be super precise but it's still fairly expressive, like a dream!

I think I can take this one step further and instead of a small number of nouns we have zero nouns but adjectives can inflect to agree with a few different classes, e.g.

loyal(animal) - loyal(inanimate object) - loyal(material) - loyal(dangerous) - loyal(abstract) - loyal(structure) - etc.

so sentences could avoid nouns entirely and be mostly made up of adjectives and adverbs, maybe verbs are conveyed through participles, and so you describe things without any nouns or verbs, everything is a modifier, e.g.

fluffy loyal eating-ly (animal) white structural (inanimate) a dog eats a bone, or literally something like "fluffy loyal animal in the manner of eating white structural inanimate object"

So what I'll do is make most words adjectives or adverbs, still unsure of if I'll add verbs, we'll see, but for now every word or root I coin will be adjectival, and I'll try doing the thing where each word can be interpreted in 3 different ways, the first meaning is assigned to the consonants, the second to the vowels and tones, and the third is assigned to the whole thing together, I'm not sure how to assign the different meanings, so this is something I might come back to later and adjust.

This might be a bit difficult, but I'll try to coin terms where at least one of the meanings would be useful when describing the terms the prompt suggests.

I think this is interesting, it's definitely very different from anything I've ever done before with a conlang, but because of that I guess there's a small bit of insecurity popping up, I'm wondering how interesting or good this is to other people or if what I'm doing is too nonsensical or maybe not original enough, so it's a good time to remind myself that the goal behind this is basically just to have fun and experiment, the point of it is not necessarily to be good or bad or whatever, I'm enjoying stepping out of my comfort zone and that's what matters.

I definitely feel excited to try conlang year at some other point using a more regular language because that'd be a lot easier, but I also like this experience where I'm getting to experiment and try out things I wouldn't otherwise, I'm wondering what kinds of things I'll be able to do using mostly adjectives, limitations breed creativity so maybe I'll end up having to come up with interesting ideas when having to translate stuff from other languages.

The next few prompts are verbs, and I'm still not sure if I want to include regular verbs, meaning they might conjugate for TAM(tense-aspect-mood):

fluffy loyal (animal) eats white structural (inanimate)

Or if I want to use basically participles as verbs, so they're adjectives that express the action of the verb, agreeing with the other adjectives:

So I guess I'll think about it a bit more before I write the next post, that is all for now.

one more partial scene from time travel au because i think i have decided i need to write the alt pov to a scene in part 2 and make sure it matches the one in the first part before i post the full thing, so it's gonna be a little longer late but eventually we'll get there :3

It’s so dark and brisk that Stanley doesn’t believe at first that he’s jumped, instead thinking he’d just wandered outside in the dead of night once again without realizing. He’s chilly in his plain tee, and when he shifts, he finds his bare feet tickled by overgrown grass.

This snaps him out of his fugue immediately as he takes in the sudden implications. There’s no grass like this where he’s been assigned a mission on the other side of the world, meaning he’s jumped at some point and has essentially left his SpecOps unit without a commander for however long it takes him to come back.

“Shit,” he hisses, fists clenching at his side.

A sudden, loud gasp echoes back to him from further ahead. Stanley looks up and is met with an almost comical sight.

He’s in the Wingfield’s backyard, for one. Very easy to tell even with only the light of the moon overhead to go by. Xeno is frozen mid-step, only two paces onto the patio, with his hand cupped over his mouth to contain any other incriminating sounds. His other arm holds an odd contraption firmly against his side.

Right as Stanley clocks Xeno, Xeno seems to finally figure out who his late-night companion is. He drops his hand from his mouth and sags where he stands. “Stan!” he whispers sharply. “You scared me half to death just now!”

“My bad, Xe,” Stanley mutters on instinct. He shivers again as the wind whips up, bringing his arms to wrap around his front. How lucky, that he’s caught Xeno sneaking back home from a late-night experiment. He’d hate to have to spend more time than necessary out in the cold.

His eyes roam over Xeno’s form, cataloguing his outfit along with his height. Truthfully, this is Stanley’s first experience meeting a Xeno younger than him during one of his jumps instead of older. It’s refreshing in a way that leaves his mind working overtime, rushing to figure out a rough time period without having to be told directly.

Xeno’s executed an experiment of some sort without his white cardigan on hand, meaning this is past the point where he’s realized what faults oversized clothing have while conducting potentially-hazardous experiments. He has to be a year or two into his schooling, then. And his shoes look too big for his body, meaning he’s already outgrown all the old pairs he could wear during his first year in his engineering program. Second year, then.

The jacket Xeno is wearing is one Stanley specifically remembers being modified to include multiple deep pockets along the inner lining. It was Xeno’s solution at the time to discreetly carrying experiment materials and other such things that would inevitably lead to unwanted inquiries. But he wouldn’t wear the thing during the experiment because it would inhibit his movement. Meaning he’d have to have suitable clothes for the weather layered underneath.

Shorts are peeking out from under the jacket’s hem. Second semester, then. He’s probably feeling the spring chill that’s soon to fade. Can’t be too cold if Xeno is willing to show some skin for an extended amount of time outdoors. He’s eleven? Maybe. Probably.

Stanley stalks closer, unbothered by the possibility of Xeno being frightened of him. Xeno recognizing him spoke volumes already. “Let me in.”

Xeno promptly looks indignant at such a request. He opens his mouth to retort, then snaps his jaw closed audibly. Him and Stanley stand toe-to-toe, and Stanley is very amused to find Xeno’s chin lifted so he can glare at him head-on. “Are you going to keep me up all night?” Xeno asks in a tone that sounds more accusatory than curious.

Stanley shrugs. “How often do you get the chance? Better take it while you can. I don’t come around often.” At least, I think I don’t. That was an awfully comfortable reaction to finding a stranger in your backyard.

Xeno sighs, decides he has nothing left to lose, and points to his bedroom window. “Fine. But! You have to help me get up there, along with all of my equipment, while ensuring my safety. That’s your toll; once you’ve paid it, I’ll allow you inside.”

Stanley smirks, cocking a brow as he takes Xeno in. “Does your ‘safety’ include not getting caught by your parents?”

“Absolutely.” Xeno nods fervently. “That’s priority number one. Even more important than making sure my equipment doesn’t get broken.”

I think your personal safety is a bit more important than either of those, Stanley thinks loftily. Not that he would ever drop Xeno, but yeesh, that lack of self-preservation was a testament to how much his younger self shielded Xeno from danger at this point.

“Alright,” Stanley agrees. “Consider it done.”

He drops to his knees, turning slightly to leave his back exposed to Xeno, who takes the hint and clambers on until he’s sitting on Stanley’s wide shoulders. Stanley immediately notices a problem.

As gently as he can, he takes the contraption from under Xeno’s arm and places it on the grass so it doesn’t make any noise. Less sensitively, he then asks, “why are you still so heavy?”

“Backpack,” Xeno mutters. “I have it on under my hoodie.”

Stanley is about to ask what’s in the bag and if it can be left behind, but Xeno doesn’t give him the chance.

“Speaking of,” he continues, tone sharply turning sour. “When are you going to give my other one back?”

“Other one?” Stanley’s mind scrambles, trying to recall if he’d borrowed anything from Xeno around this point in the year. “Other what?”

Xeno leans forward and almost unbalances, leaving Stanley glad he hasn’t risen from his knees just yet. He tucks one hand under Stanley’s chin and jerks up until Stanley’s face is pointed skyward and Xeno’s stern gaze is on his own. His expression grows more disappointed the longer he searches, and he promptly drops Stanley’s head from his hold. “Nevermind. That hasn’t happened for you yet.”

Yet. The implication there leaves Stanley very confused, as it possibly goes against what Xeno has warned him of over and over. It leaves his thoughts spiraling, and instead of continuing to let his head spin, he chooses to drop the subject and commence the stealth operation.

With the bag also left in the grass, Stanley finally stands to full height with Xeno firmly secured to his shoulders. He scales the side of the house neatly, finding footholds that had been carved out over the years and using his intuition and reflexes to come up with new ones on the fly. In no time, they’re balanced just below the windowsill, in range enough for Xeno to stand on Stanley’s shoulders and pry the window open enough to slip inside. 

After a few seconds, Xeno’s head reappears to give Stanley a grin and a thumbs-up. Stanley returns the smile and begins a much swifter descent now that he does not need to worry about any passengers.

Xeno directs his next two trips, calling for the bag first. Stanley swings it over his shoulder and holds it up for Xeno to lean out on the sill and grab it by the top strap. He struggles to pull it back in, so Stanley lingers just in case, watching Xeno grit his teeth and muscle through it with all the effort he can manage.

The science project is a little more difficult to climb up with, but Stanley manages. Once it’s out of his hands, he lowers himself several feet and takes a different approach that leaves him hanging slightly higher than where Xeno’s window sits. He stretches to bring his foot onto the ledge, pauses as Xeno abruptly tugs the window the rest of the way open, shit-eating grin firmly in place to contrast Stanley’s unimpressed frown.

With the added wiggle room in his opening, Stanley forgoes his original plan and brings all his weight onto the ledge, hugging the top of the window while he regains his balance. Then he slides his legs through and drops silently into the room. Xeno rewards him with a standing applause, almost too quiet to hear despite how enthusiastic he appears to be.

Stanley closes the window on his own and shudders as the cold of the night finally dissipates. Xeno has shrugged off his jacket at this point to set aside what all rests within the various pockets, and he looks between it and Stanley as if Stanley will shrink three sizes all of a sudden.

“It’s not gonna fit,” Stanley mumbles, reading Xeno’s mind. “But thanks for trying.”

Xeno doesn’t like this implication, because he huffs, drops the jacket, stands up, hurries over, and forces Stanley to sit on the rug in front of his closet. Then he speed-walks to his bed, yanks a thick blanket up into his scrawny arms, and deposits it directly on top of Stanley.

Temporarily blinded, Stanley huffs out a muffled ‘thanks’ while he tries to find the edge of the blanket to pry it off of him and wrap it around himself properly.

He sits there quietly for a bit, acting as witness as Xeno shuffles to and fro, putting everything in its proper place. Then he flops down on the mattress and puts his hands over his face.

It takes him a minute to bare his face again, and when he does so, he reaches over to turn on a small bedside lamp so Stanley can see his face too. “Stan! Get over here!” he whisper-yells. “I’m not yelling at you from across the room!”

Anymore, Stanley thinks drily, but he complies nonetheless.

Once he’s sitting on the bed, far enough that his feet dangle just above the floor, Xeno moves to press against his side and starts pawing at the blanket. “Gimme,” he demands, his hand finally making contact with Stanley’s arm.

Stanley had been about to deny him this, or at least insist that he be nicer about it, but upon the realization that Xeno’s skin is just as covered in goosebumps and cold to the touch as Stanley’s had been earlier, he forgets all manner of discipline and wraps one arm around Xeno to burrow the boy into his side, the blanket now covering them both.

Xeno hums in gratitude and relaxes completely, letting all his weight fall into Stanley’s side. Luckily for him, Stanley doesn’t mind. It’s cute to see Xeno like this. The boy has always been so clingy. 

They sit in silence. Xeno had mentioned talking, but Stanley is unsure if he has to start the conversation. It’s a comfortable silence. He wouldn’t mind falling asleep like this, even if it meant waking up back in the desert, or to Xeno’s disgruntled parents.

Knowing neither of those options sound particularly enticing, he searches the room for anything of interest. Talking about himself isn’t an option, so it’s best if he steers the conversation. Maybe, he thinks, this is what Xeno is waiting for.

His eyes land on an open genetics textbook. “How are your studies going?”

“As expected,” Xeno murmurs, sounding closer to sleep than Stanley cares for.

“And your extra-curricular studies?”

“Stannnn,” Xeno suddenly bemoans. “You’re being so uncooperative recently.” He emphasizes this with a half-hearted punch to Stanley’s ribs, which leads to Stanley swinging him up into a side-arm hug and tugging the both of them fully onto the bed in revenge.

Xeno unearths his face and peers up at Stanley carefully. “I meant my Stan,” he clarifies.

L gender thoughts

ive talked about this before but I cannot recall if it was on discord or on tumblr so here you go. basically I think L would look generally the same regardless of gender, and I believe that even as a woman L would find it most convenient to allow others to assume she's a man.

let's run down the possibilities!

variations on L as a man

cis canon. no notes

trans I headcanon that if L is trans, he realized at a very young age. I believe Watari would support his transition and get him started on T very young so he would pass very well, basically indistinguishable from canon.

if he started transitioning after starting estrogen puberty L would not bind he would not be able to handle the sensations. I don't think he'd care enough to get top surgery, he'd just keep slouching in his baggy shirt and no one would notice. even if other people clocked him they wouldn't do anything about it because hey this is L, the best detective in the world, you do not want to get on his bad side. alternatively if anyone is like hey L why do you look kinda feminine he'd just be like what the hell are you talking about you're imagining things

variations on L as a woman

cis I believe any version of female L would be extremely aware of how her gender would impact how others see her. cis woman L would be willing to let others assume she is a man because that means they'll take her more seriously. she probably deepens her voice with the distorter. also she still dresses exactly the same and does not wear a bra on account of the sensory issues. I imagine her voice is on the deep end for a cis woman and that helps. when the task force finds out she's a woman, she enjoys playing into their shock. like oh yeah you thought I was a man didn't you? gotcha!

trans (disclaimer before this section that I am tme) along with misogyny, transfem L must be very aware of transmisogyny and how to navigate a world where she is at the very bottom of the gender hierarchy. she has a choice to make: live as a man and be taken more seriously, or live as a woman and be happier. I believe that even if she realized as a child, she is already very aware of this dynamic.

Watari is still supportive and willing to find estrogen for her, but he also knows that she will have an easier time being taken seriously if she operates a man. this may play into why she operates so anonymously: both for safety against her enemies, and safety against "allies" who would turn against her if they knew about her gender. she probably avoids being seen as much as possible, thus heavily relying on Watari's laptop and the voice distorter. when she meets the task force, she cuts straight to the point and does not bother to acknowledge any of their surprise that she's a woman.

she still dresses the same because L's fashion is driven not by gender but by autism. I do like the idea of her growing out her hair a little longer though and maybe she paints her nails. maybe she would wear a crop top once in a while but again I don't think she really cares that much about style compared to comfort

I don't have much to offer about nonbinary L sorry. I think xe would still look exactly the same as every other L if that helps. nonbinary is such a wide range of genders that anything I could write would be reductive.
