"Mistranslations" that are not mistranslations
Now with an additional part 2.
NISA has made plenty of mistakes while translating the Danganronpa series (and I've complained about them before), and so they have a reputation of being untrustworthy. But because of this reputation, I feel like fans are too quick to trust whatever anyone that isn't NISA states as absolute fact. So, I want to examine some instances of fan translators claiming NISA has mistranslated something, when, no, actually, they didn't.
Kokichi's last words
Tumblr media Tumblr media
人にやらされるゲームなんて…楽しい訳あるかよ… A game you're forced to play... how could that be fun...
This is probably the most widespread myth in terms of "mistranslations that aren't", with the original post that makes this claim having over 2k notes: that Kokichi in the original Japanese actually says, "How could a game where you're forced to kill people be fun...?" Unfortunately, it's just not true. Fortunately for me, there's a reddit post here that breaks the line down in detail, so I don't have to do any work.
Anyway, I really wanted to make this post because of this thread, which makes several false claims.
 Kokichi says he's afraid of friends in general
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
オレは、そういう『仲間』が他人よりも怖いけどねー。I'm more afraid of those kinds of [friends] than strangers.
So... souiu, meaning that type of/that kind of is right there, directly before nakama (which can mean friend, especially if it's in a shounen anime, but can also just mean companion/member of a group). I don't understand how you can miss this. Not only is it right there, this claim on its face doesn't make sense. Why, in this context, would Kokichi suddenly blurt out that he's afraid of having friends? It has nothing to do with the conversation they're having.
Shuichi's words to Kokichi after the 4th trial
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
王馬くん、もういいだろ ? Ouma-kun, isn't this enough? その話を聞かせてくれよ。Tell us about that.
Okay, you've probably heard the phrase mou ii a lot if you watch anime, and it's almost always accompanied by a frustrated huff. Because it is, in fact, something you say when impatient, fed up, what have you. It literally means "good already", carrying pretty much the identical meaning of the English phrase, "that's enough" or "I've had enough". Shuichi does not say it's okay as in it's daijoubu, which is the word you use when trying to comfort someone. He is very much frustrated here and telling Kokichi to fess up.
Citation needed
Tumblr media
I couldn't find a line like this in Kokichi's FTEs, but maaaaaaaybe I missed it? Shuichi's narration comments quite a few times on Kokichi acting childishly throughout the game, but I couldn't find anything like this in specific.
EDIT: Correction, I did find it, and it's covered in part two. Suffice to say, the OP got this line completely wrong.
That Kaito thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah this is patently false. It's also already been touched on in this thread with comments backing it up, so there’s another thing I don't have to get into. I'll put the text here though.
オレはテメーみて一に胸クソ悪い真似までして、If I have to mimic your sickening behavior, 生き残りて一とは思わねーんだよ。I don't think I want to survive.
Shuichi's words to Kokichi after the 4th trial part deaux
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've seen varying claims on how these lines were translated, from them being slightly tweaked, to the claim they were completely butchered to make Saihara too aggressive. I'm just going to leave it here and let you come to your own conclusions.
ダサいのはキミの方だよ…王馬くん。The lame one is you... Ouma-kun.
百田くんの周りにはいつも人が集まってくる… Momota-kun always has people around him... でも、キミの周りには誰もいないじゃないか。But, there's no one around you.
キミは…その程度のヤツって事だよ。That's... what kind of person you are.
This is snappy in its own way, though, if you consider that 程度 is closer to meaning grade/level/degree rather than simply "type of". "That's the level of person you are," basically.
And if you doubt me on any of this, I encourage you to do your own research, get second opinions if you can. I know not everyone knows Japanese, in which case you can't really help but rely on someone else and hope their translation is accurate. That said, at the bare minimum, I think people should provide screenshots and the original Japanese text if they're going to claim something is a mistranslation. Like, I don't think you should be able to say "actually in Japanese Kokichi says he volunteers at animal shelters in his free time but NISA cut it!" and have half the fandom believe you with no proof.

🔵 Kodaka BlueSky Q&As: Male DR Characters (Specific) Part 1
(See part two, Nov & Dec 2024, here.)
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: Please be advised! Translations of all Japanese answers derive from a combination of Google Translate and my manager's three-quarters-remembered Japanese. We've tried our best to work out what he's saying, but there will be mistakes here and there. Do not take this as gospel!
To avoid spreading (too much) misinfo, where we're completely boggled about an answer, we've decided not to even make an attempt. We'll still list the post, but mark it accordingly.
➡️ AN IMPORTANT NOTE FROM KODAKA BEFORE READING:
First of all, the questions answered here are not official. Everything that is official is what is said within the work. In contrast, this is simply what Kodaka, the creator, thinks, and it is not the correct answer. Use this as a starting point to enjoy the depth of each character, or to say, "That's not right!" and enjoy it with your own interpretation. I think of this as a way of communicating with the characters who live in fiction. This is important, so please spread the word.

💕 FEBRUARY 2024:
Q: What do you think of Matsuda Yasuke?!
A: As I was writing, I thought he was a fascinating and cool guy.
/////
Q: Is there any difference in the mindset of Ouma Kokichi (main story) and Ouma Kokichi (salmon mode)?
A: I didn't write Salmon Mode, I left that up to the staff.
NOTE: As stated, Kodaka didn't write V3's "dating sim" mode. You'll see him refer to that a few times.
/////
Q: If you have a favorite character in Danganronpa, I'd like to hear it and why.
A: I wrote them all as if they were the main characters, so I like them all, but I guess it's Monokuma. He was the first character I created.
/////
Q: Before the release of V3, Saihara-kun was often mistaken for a woman, but was that something you were aiming for? Also, was it you who chose the voice actor?
A: That wasn't my intention. I did want him to appear timid, though. I think out of the several candidates I received, Hayashibara-san was my first choice, and I said "Yes, please!"
/////
Q: Were there any characters that you had trouble moving around the narrative after creating them? If not, please tell us which character was the easiest to move!
A: Tanaka Gundam was too much of a chuunibyou and it was difficult. The ones that were easiest to move were Monokuma, Ouma, and Hagakure!
NOTE: A "chuunibyou" is a kid, generally 12-13, who believes they have secret powers or a grand backstory. Gundham's a bit old to be a chuuni by Kodaka's own admission in the DR2 artbook, but that was apparently part of the charm (and why it was so difficult to write him). It's spiritual Naruto running.
/////
Q: A question! Fujisaki's middle school uniform is different in the anime version of DR1 (navy blue collar) and Ultra Despair Girls (pink collar). Is there any intention behind this? I'd like to play Kodaka's games even years and decades from now! I'll continue to support you 🎮
A: With anime, there are a lot of different things going on and things like color settings often change. Thank you! I'll keep working hard so that everyone can enjoy it, even if it kills me!
/////
Q: How happy do you think Hinata would be if you gave him some kusamochi?
A: Hinata: "Oh, kusamochi! I love it! Hey, let's eat it together! Oh, I'll go make some tea!"
NOTE: Kusamochi is a type of sweet.
/////
Q: What happens if you point an electrified hammer or Komaru's megaphone-type hacking gun at Keebo?
A: This is gross discrimination against robots! Don't ever do this!
/////
Q: Ishimaru-kun, do you like to put lemon on your fried chicken?
A: He's the type of person who likes to put lemon on others' portions as well.
/////
Q: After the ending of the Hope Arc anime, what are Hinata and the others doing? Are they still supporting the Future Foundation from behind the scenes? Or are they just normally affiliated with the Future Foundation?
A: I guess he pretends to act the role as an enemy of the world, ostensibly as an enemy of the fallen Future Foundation, but uses his talents to save various people as he moves from one place to another.
/////
Q: Could you please tell us what kind of discussions and circumstances took place among the production team that led to Tanaka Gundam's pants becoming like that?
A: It's just for fun.
/////
Q: Lately, I've been wondering about Ishimaru's life in junior high school, and I'm in a state where all I can eat is sweet food!
A: He had a free-spirited friend like Shin-chan from Crayon Shin-chan, and he was constantly being pushed around by him. But then the friend moved away, and young Ishimaru was lonely.
/////
Q: What's going on with Kamukura Izuru after Danganronpa Anime 3: Future Arc/Despair Arc? Do you feel like Kamukura Izuru has lost his personality?
A: I figured that he had fused with Hinata...or rather, that he had been almost absorbed into him.
/////
Q: I would like to know the people who are "not boring" to Ouma...
A: Boring people.
/////
Q: What do you think of Sakura Ogami, Kenshiro?
A: Although he has mixed feelings towards her, he believes she is a good rival.
/////
Q: Why did Momota-kun want to hug Akamatsu-san in v3-1? Was it because he had romantic feelings for her, or did he want her to hit on him in the confusion, or did he have any ulterior motives?
A: Momota immediately hugged her in gratitude.
/////
Q: Sorry if this has already been said. When I first watched Danganronpa, I was really drawn to Togami-kun's charm, but even though he has no flaws, does he have a weakness for his favorite person or for ____?
A: Weak to Naegi.
/////
Q: Does Komaeda Nagito know about cat memes?
A: I want to see a Komaeda cat meme. Someone make one. A Ouma cat meme would be fine too.
/////
Q: What does it look like to those around you when you are doing Logic Dives or Hangman's Gambit?
A: "Hinata! Come back! Hey, can you hear me?! No good, I'll have to give you stronger medicine!"
NOTE: It's unclear who's answering. Mikan?
🍀 MARCH 2024:
Q: Excuse me for the second question! Komaeda's parents have passed away, so who raised him when he was a child? I'm also curious if Komaeda's hair is bed hair or naturally curly 🙏🏻
A: "I grew up alone. Luckily. I have curly hair."
/////
Q: Hello! I've always loved the Danganronpa 3 anime!! 🥲 (I'm waiting for new merchandise to come out♡) I have a question. After the main story of the anime, Munakata Kyosuke continues to fight the remnants of despair while carrying the memory of Yukizome and Sakakura, but did he end up finding happiness in the end? If you feel like it, please answer! 🙇‍♂️
A: He fights here and there, covered in wounds, and sometimes sleeps, reminiscing about the past... This lonely battle continues. The only time he can be happy is when he is able to forgive his own sins.
/////
Q: Please tell me what type of girl you like, Amami-kun!! (Sorry if this has already been said 💦)
A: Rich.
/////
Q: What kind of clothes does Fujisaki Chihiro like to wear (or usually wear)?
A: Unisex jeans.
NOTE: It's not exactly a question so I won't list it here, but a Chihiro fan responded with excitement, at which Kodaka replied "100 points for your reaction."
/////
Q: What is your favorite food, Momota-kun? What is your favorite drink? Or your favorite planet or your favorite galaxy. Anything is fine, I want to know. Please tell me about Momota-kun.
A: "I like big portions and colorful things. Things that have an American feel to them."
/////
Q: Excuse me for asking a question...! When he goes to a restaurant such as a family restaurant to celebrate a sports festival or cultural festival, does Keebo have to split the bill?
A: "I split the bill. I have fun using the serving robots."
NOTE: Probably referring to restaurants in Japan that have automated servers. Cold, Keebo.
/////
Q: What kind of dreams does Ouma-kun have when he catches a cold?
A: Infinitely multiplying Keebos.
/////
Q: I wonder what would happen if you forced food and drink into Keebo's mouth?
A: It comes out of the lower half of his body as warm as a microwave oven.
/////
Q: I like Kuwata Leon, and I want to know more about him. Are there any stories about him that haven't been revealed yet? I'd like to know if there are any...
A: "I'm always looking for band members. Lately, I've been thinking about getting into TikTok, so I'm recruiting cute girls."
/////
Q: Please tell us what type of girl you like, Komaeda-kun!
A: "I love girls who are full of hope, and I hate girls who are full of despair too much to love them."
/////
Q: Ouma was held captive by Gonta overnight in a pretty hopeless room with a ton of bugs flying around, so how did he manage to survive?
A: "I stopped thinking about it."
/////
Q: Please tell me what type of girl Owada Mondo likes!!
A: At the very least, he seems to dislike noisy ones.
/////
Q: I want to know what type of girl Ouma likes!
A: "Anyone who will listen to anything I say."
/////
Q: Does Fujisaki have a favorite food?
A: Mini katsudon.
NOTE: Katsudon is a pork cutlet bowl.
/////
Q: Hi Mr. Kodaka! What kind of music does Monokuma like? Is it different than what Junko would like?
A: Monokuma likes enka.
NOTE: Enka is a Japanese style of music often compared to the blues or jazz.
/////
Q: whats korekiyos favorite holiday?
A: To make friends with his sister.
/////
Q: What did Jin think of the Reserve Course? Did he see them as a cash cow, like the researchers at Hope's Peak, or as talentless underachievers?
A: Originally it was meant to be a safety net and a growth opportunity, but at some point it became mainly about collecting payments, which caused some conflict.
/////
Q: [You guys are going to think I'm making this up, but I believe the question had something to do with how Nagito would ask Hajime to hang out with him. It's since been deleted, but I think there are still screenshots, which I will find and half-assedly machine translate ASAP.]
A: "First, I have to do something about Nanami."
/////
Q: [Similar to the above, I'm pretty sure this question had to do with how Nagito would ask someone out romantically. Again, it's since been deleted, but I think there are still screenshots, which I will, again, find and half-assedly machine translate ASAP.]
A: "I'll go out with you if you do something about Nanami."
/////
Q: Excuse me for asking a question! In Ultra Despair Girls, Fujisaki Taichi had a photo of Fujisaki [Chihiro] in a sailor uniform, looking like they were in their rebellious phase (?)! It's so cute! I'd really like to know how the photo was taken and if there are any untold details about the Fujisaki family!
A: No matter what Fujisaki [Chihiro] is, their father can't help but take pictures because they are a cute kid, but Fujisaki [Chihiro] themself is embarrassed, and since those around them are becoming more and more rebellious, they are acting a little like a rebel, but later they will probably feel sorry for their father and be depressed.
/////
Q: I want to know what type Saihara-kun likes!!!
A: People with a strong sense of purpose, regardless of gender.
/////
Q: When Kodaka's account was hacked on April Fool's Day, Ouma referred to Gokuhara as a friend from his school days, but is there anyone else Ouma could call a friend other than Gokuhara?
A: "Once I talk to someone, we're friends. If I meet someone, we're friends. However, I don't mind putting my friends through bad situations."
/////
Q: What should I do to date Ouma-kun?
A: I think he would be amused and come up to you if you first implanted a brain into an animal, or mounted in a car, or a full-body prosthesis.
🥬 APRIL 2024:
Q: Sorry if this question has already been asked. Ouma-kun reminds me of someone who can fall in love with anyone who is fun to be with. Does Ouma-kun care about gender, or can he fall in love with anyone he finds interesting regardless of gender? Does he only fall in love with interesting people ・・・? ‍♀️ Thank you, Mr. Kodaka.
A: It has nothing to do with gender or romantic feelings, it's just about whether it's fun or not.
/////
Q: What kind of girls does Gonta Gokuhara like?
A: A girl who likes bugs.
/////
Q: I have a little question, what kind of sweets Kazuichi likes besides sweet drinks? Gummies, marshmellows, chocolate or maybe something else? :3
A: I think he likes colorful candy.
/////
Q: Even though you have a serious personality, Amami-kun, you look like you're frivolous to everyone around you, so is there a reason why you wear so many accessories? Or do you simply like fashion?
A: "I just like fashion. I dress the way I like when I can, especially since I'm in an environment where I can't dress fashionably."
/////
Q: What does Ouma Kokichi think about being short?
A: "I'm lucky that it doesn't feel intimidating."
/////
Q: Were the execution machines in Danganronpa 1 made by Soda from Danganronpa 2?
A: You've got a good point, don't you?
/////
Q: Excuse me for asking a question! Was Dr. Idabashi, who created the Ultimate Robot Keebo, also a student at Hope's Peak Academy?
A: I'll take that story!
/////
Q: who would you choose to solve a mystery and why? kirigiri, saihara or halara?
A: It would be great if the three of them performed together!
🌺 MAY 2024:
Q: What is Komaeda Nagito usually thinking about?
A: "Is there hope lost somewhere?"
/////
Q: What did Kamukura-kun think of Hinata-kun?
A: The most boring.
/////
Q: Which Danganronpa character do you think would like shark movies?
A: Soda.
/////
Q: Excuse me for asking a question! Is the story about the school festival in the Danganronpa original drama CD written by Kodaka-san? There is a scene in the drama where Fujisaki wants to wear a cute apron, which was quite unexpected for Fujisaki in the main story, so it was a shock. Was there a possibility that Fujisaki would embrace cute things in the main story as well?
A: I think I only wrote the very first one. The one that has a white and black disc. If I remember correctly.
/////
Q: I’m curious, What kind of person does Kokichi like?
A: rich person
/////
Q: Excuse me for asking a question! I think that in the articles(?) released during the development stage there were many scenes that were not in the main story. Were these scenes faked to hide the contents of the main story, or were they actually there during production? I'm curious if there were any scenes where Fujisaki-kun was suspected in court!
[This person included this image:]
Tumblr media
A: This is an image made up for a proposal. It was made before the story even existed.
☀️ JUNE 2024:
Q: How many characters in Danganronpa will listen to Komaeda's long speeches until the end?
A: None.
/////
Q: I'd like to know something about Komaeda Nagito's childhood, even if it's something trivial!!
A: "I wore diapers."
/////
Q: I'm curious how Komaeda-kun would express his feelings if he fell in love with someone.
A: He'd put you in a very unhappy situation in order to make you feel the hope of happiness.
/////
Q: Hello, Kodaka! It's an honor to ask you a question... so how can we interpret Nagito's ambiguous relations with certain characters in the series? Just saying.
A: Please interpret it as you wish.
/////
Q: Were Shinguji-kun's parents aware of his relationship with his sister? If so, what did they think about it?
A: I'll keep my mouth shut because if I mention it, I'll get in a horrible lot of trouble.
NOTE: Kodaka's talking as himself here, pretending like if he says anything he'll get hurt in some way. Don't take this as solid fact, but I think the implication here is less an IRL one (Spikechun would be mad) and more an in-universe one (Kork and Korkette would do something to you). But, again: that is me and my manager's theory.
/////
Q: Would Togami also use polite language when speaking to someone higher up in the organization?
A: He does not use honorifics. Byakuya is Byakuya.
/////
Q: Why did Kamukura's hair grow so long and his eyes change color?
A: Abnormal development.
/////
Q: Who is the most possible female character that would or might have a romantic relationship with Komaeda during Danganronpa 2? (Only characters in Danganronpa 2)
A: female character?
NOTE: The infamous post. It's reaaaaaaal.
/////
Q: Excuse me for asking! Keebo is a school uniform wearing robot, but what about summer uniforms? Are there times when he no longer wears a school uniform?
A: [His summer uniform is a] cooling fan installed on the side.
/////
Q: If Hinata-kun were to be punished, what do you think it would be like? I think he would die a boring death quickly.
A: Incidentally, I once came up with the idea of punishing him by freezing both his hands and feet with liquid nitrogen, and then shocking him to death as he watching them get crushed by a hammer… but of course I rejected the idea.
/////
Q: Togami-kun may be the most handsome among 1, 2, and V3, but who are the other students who can be called handsome? I think Ishimaru-kun might actually fall into the handsome guy category!
A: Keebo in terms of being well-groomed and having no skin problems.
/////
Q: Since Nagito Komaeda often says that despair is a stepping stone to hope, I don't have an image of Nagito Komaeda being troubled. However, I would like to hear what kind of worries he has if any!
A: If she were to become an adult, it would be Peko. The one who surpasses her is Tsumiki.
NOTE: As in, he'd worry about Peko or Mikan. Now, whether Kodaka means Geeto would worry about them as people or over the fact that they'll kick his ass, that's less clear. But they're on his mind.
🎇 JULY 2024:
Q: A question from a Teruteru fan (keeping with the topic of it being hot outside): Who do you think is the character with the most romantic potential for Hanamura?
A: Hanamura.
/////
Q: Hello sensei, I have a question. I'm seeing a controversy going on right now with overseas fans being attacked by people who are associating Komaeda with female characters using this post. Is Komaeda really gay? Or is this just a joke post? It's said to be official information, but is it true?
A: It's so hopeless. The more hopeless it is, the brighter hope shines.
NOTE: This was about the infamous Female Character? post.
/////
Q: How do you view women and men, Komaeda? Does he have different opinions about them or is he simply indifferent to both genders?
A: Ask Komaeda himself.
NOTE: I probably won't be archiving many more of the Komaeda sexuality posts unless they're particularly funny or insightful, because a lot of them are repetitive. Sorry. Kodaka's not budging, y'all.
/////
Q: Can Komaeda drive?
A: With his luck.
/////
Q: If there was a cut-in where Togami would rebuttal, what do you think he would say?
A: "Bow down, you fools!"
/////
Q: If Nagito were to play videogames, which game and/or genre is his favorite?
A: Gorilla Tag
NOTE: Like the Steam VR game...? Maybe? Unless this is referring to something I can't parse out. Kind of hilarious to imagine Nagito as a return to monke guy, though.
/////
Q: What's Momota's favorite planet?
A: The first one he'll discover.
/////
Q: Since Matsuda Yasuke worked on the Kamukura project, did he perform the operation?
A: More or less, you know what I mean?
NOTE: Disclaimer on this one, as we're not 100% sure what he's trying to say or if he's just being silly as usual. We think he's casually implying that Matsuda outlined the experiment but didn't actually perform it, so he kind of did "do" the operation in a symbolic/spiritual sense. Especially since we believe it's canon Matsuda did not wield the scalpel so to speak? If we recall correctly? Regardless, if anyone can shed light on this, we'd be appreciative. Completely unrelated: his use of "わかるっしょ" wakarussho made my manager laugh, as she says that's something no middle aged man would say. It's more of a teenaged girl/gyaru kind of thing, but Kodaka often talks like this apparently. Channeling Junko...
/////
Q: If Saihara-kun were to be executed, what do you imagine it would be?
A: He wakes up in a hospital after the ending of Danganronpa V3 and it was all just a dream with him in a vegetative state.
/////
Q: What would it be like if Ouma-kun was punished?
A: It's live action. And the actors are amateurs who just monotone "It's a lie!"
🌭 AUG 2024:
Q: I was looking at a conversation about punishments, and I was wondering, if Kamukura was to be punished, what would it be like?
A: He would be reminded endlessly of the days he spent as Hinata Hajime.
/////
Q: Please tell me why Keebo hates vending machines! I'll do anything!
A: I think he has mixed feelings whenever he sees a machine that is only being used by humans. Imagine this. What if a human being was deprived of the freedom to speak and move, and was forced to only accept money and offer drinks?
/////
Q: Are you naturally not smart, Ishimaru-kun? Do you feel like you make up for it through hard work?
A: "I'm just a serious and straightforward person who believes that hard work will always be rewarded."
/////
Q: Ouma's skin is as white as a corpse. Why is it like that?
A: Because Ouma is definitely unhealthy.
/////
Q: Was there a time when Hinata would repeatedly try new things in order to get into Hope's Peak Academy, only to be devastated by the fact that he had no talent?
A: "That's right. I kept repeating that cycle and realizing that I would never amount to anything."
🍁 SEPT 2024:
Q: Personally, I have the image of Komaeda having low blood pressure and being a bit bad at waking up in the morning, but on the other hand, I get the feeling he might wake up very early and say things like "This is a morning of hope!" Kodaka-san, do you think Komaeda is good or bad at waking up in the morning?
A: "I wake up in despair, wondering if the morning of hope will come soon."
/////
Q: [The question has now been deleted, but the answer is cute, so I'm keeping it despite the lack of context.]
A: For Ouma, love is just a game.
🎃 OCT 2024:
Q: I'd like to know what Saihara's casual clothes look like.
A: “I like simple clothes and don't like flashy ones. I don't like patterns either. I always wear the same clothes.”
/////
Q: Even though Togami is such an important character in the franchise, why has he never been added to any merchandise collaborations?
A: I wonder why? Is he unpopular? Maybe it's pressure from the Togami conglomerate...
/////
Q: Does Sakakura Juzo have any friends other than Munakata Kyosuke and Yukizome Chisa?
A: “The only other people I have are subordinates.”
/////
Q: What specific crimes does Ouma Kokichi's organization (DICE) commit?
A: Very stupid and annoying crimes.
/////
Q: Is there anything decided for Amami-kun's punishment? I'm sorry for asking you so many questions💦
A: All of his sisters gather together and go on a voyage, but a killing spree breaks out and they disappear one by one, leaving only one person left, unable to be saved... He commits suicide after having nightmares about it.
NOTE: This one's weird, so take it with a grain of salt. My manager and I aren't sure if Kodaka's saying that Rantaro's sisters would all kill each other and then he'd commit suicide, or the last remaining sister would commit suicide. We're also unsure if Rantaro would be participating in said killing game. You might be thinking that Rantaro would be the suicide, but not all of Kodaka's BSky punishments are actual fatal executions. Some he's devised are really just torture. Regardless, Rantaro gets a horrifying deal here.
/////
Q: If there was a punishment for Ki-Bo, what would it be like?
A: He has been modified into a vending machine, and although he has thoughts, he cannot speak; he simply takes money and hands out drinks, until one day he breaks down and is miserably discarded.

I've got smoke, I've got mirrors, what's next?
Saimatsu Week 2024 - Day 3: Swap / Seasons @saimatsu-week
Description: Ultimate Inventor Kaede Akamatsu wants to ask the Ultimate Magician Shuichi Saihara about a trick she saw! Word Count: 2,314 Read on AO3 here
“And then when the audience was looking over there, the magician opened the latch and folded the fake wall, halving the space and hiding it, right? I’m right aren’t I? I didn’t get to examine the box but from the angle I saw it, that’s gotta be how it works, but then I tried making one at home and one of the measures wouldn’t quite work, but I ended up making a pretty nice space saving cabinet and… Saihara-kun are you okay?”
Kaede tilted her head, ponytail bouncing a bit as she came out of her excited ramble and noticed the stiffness of the boy in front of her. His hands, which had been nervously fidgeting with the brim of his top hat before, had gone rigid. She leaned in and a bit lower to get a glimpse of his eyes under it, and saw they had widened in panic. As her face swam into his view, Shuichi backpedaled himself right into the desk behind them and fell to the ground, hat tumbling off and limbs askew.
After a brief moment of surprise, she straightened and hurried over to help him up.
“I’m… I’m fine, Akamatsu-san,” he mumbled as she yanked him back up to his feet. “I uh… I have to go.” He retrieved his hat from the floor, shoving it down low over his face and started towards the hall. Kaede blinked.
“Hold on! We were talking!” Well, she had been talking, but semantics. Kaede hurried after the quiet magician. She had approached him earlier after everyone introduced themselves for two reasons. One was because she loved magic tricks, working out how they were done was such fun as an inventor, and here he was, the Ultimate Magician himself! Finally someone with the answers to the ones she wasn’t quite sure of. Despite his headstart, Kaede found herself catching up and matching Shuichi’s pace quite easily. Glancing at him sidelong, she could see he was adjusting his bowtie and avoiding her eye.
“Where do you have to go?” She decided to change the subject and watched his face as they descended the stairs side by side, narrowly avoiding a collision with a certain grinning pianist as he slid down the banister and past them, calling out greetings for the ‘wizard’. She rolled her eyes, but caught Shuichi’s sigh as well. When they reached the ground floor, he stopped, and peered at her with one eye from under the hat brim.
“Uh, well… Akamatsu-san… it’s just… um…”
“Yes?” she prompted, smiling encouragingly.
He glanced down the hall, and following his eyes she spotted Rantaro and Kaito, apparently talking about places they’d both been, loudly. Her eyes darted back to Shuichi.
“Did you want to talk somewhere else? Somewhere more private?”
“P-private?” Even with the hat she could see his cheeks go red. Her own burned a bit as she realized how that sounded.
“Y-yeah, I haven’t seen my lab yet, and it just opened so maybe we can talk there!”
“Oh! Uh… Yeah okay, we can do that.”
Bolstered, Kaede took the lead, turning them towards the front door of the school. Shuichi hesitated only a moment, before following her tread. The tails of his coat fluttered as he sped up. With the promise of talk when they got there, their walk settled into a more comfortable silence as they stepped out the door into the caged sunlight. The bars around them were still troubling to see, but there were other things to think about for the time being.
It wasn’t long before they were down the steps and walking toward a brassy looking building with a bit of an old fashioned look off to the side of the path. The door had a neatly welded pattern on it of little cogs, much like her own hair clips. Thoughts of their prison were replaced briefly with a giddy excitement. “Oh I hope it’s like my workshop back home, I have been itching to work on something!”
She reached out to grab the door and pulled, but stopped, and turned to hold it, looking back at Shuichi with an expectant smile.
He stared, fidgeting with his cuff as he peered between the doorway and her. “Don’t you want to see it first..? There could be something p-personal…”
“It’s a workshop, right? I doubt it. Come on, I insist! Not like I’m going to slam the door and lock you in!” Kaede joked. Seeing his alarm, she quickly added, “I promise.”
Shuichi hesitated a moment longer, then rolled his shoulders and stepped in. She followed after, letting the door swing after her.
It was dim inside and hard to see, and that alone brought some disappointment. Maybe it was silly to get her hopes up for something provided by a bunch of robot bears, but an Ultimate Lab sounded like something she could really use right now. Looking up, trying to find a light switch, she walked right into the boy in front of her, who had paused to look down at something.
“Oop, sorry about that Saihara-kun, I-”
There was an audible click as he stumbled another step forward, and she fell silent. The click was followed by a winding sound, then a rhythmic ticking. She stared around the place, trying to spot the source. It sounded like a machine, maybe something like a clock or timer? Or with the winding, maybe a wheel? It sounded like it was somewhere up above them, but the ceiling was so dark there could be a whole canopy up there and she wouldn’t be any the wis-
Her wrist was suddenly yanked hard, and Kaede yelped in surprise as she tumbled down to join Shuichi, who was crouching on the floor since she last looked down. She gaped at him, about to barrage him with questions when a whoosh of air flew past their heads, his hat falling and her hair blowing with it. Her eyes darted up to see the comically large mallet swinging down like a pendulum for another pass on the way back. “Whoa!”
The two of them sat on the floor watching the ridiculous thing swing a few more times before settling. Finally, the clicking stopped, and one by one the lights around the lab blinked on, bringing a warm golden glow to the space. There were shelves of jars, boxes and baskets full of odds and ends, parts, toys. There was a work desk lined with tools to the side under the brightest lamp. There was a record player that came to life as the last light flicked on, a jaunty classical tune playing. And of course, all around the ceiling and the walls were strings and tracks for what seemed like the most elaborate trap. There were ball bearings set to fall on springs, a fishing reel with a loose string that looped around a book on a shelf, a bucket dangling from a chain that was definitely full to the brim from the telltale drip. It looked like a cross between a child’s idea of a toy shop and a hermit’s jury-rigged idea of security.
Her eyes finally went to the floor, and spied the trip wire Shuichi must have pushed into when she nudged him. Had he spotted it already and stopped for that? Cautious, she stood up and poked at the mallet, then laughed aloud.
Shuichi stared up in horror. When she glanced down to see he wasn’t getting up, she hurriedly pointed at the mallet. “It’s inflated, like a balloon! Full of air. Come on, poke it!” Kaede held out her hand to help him up for the second time now.
“It is?” Taking her hand, the magician got back to his feet. He reached out to poke it suspiciously, watching the given under his finger before it bounces back to shape. “Why was something like this even here?”
“If I had to guess… Maybe it’s for people who didn’t knock?”
“...What?” Shuichi’s eyes found Kaede’s for a moment, before looking away, suddenly conscious his hat was still on the floor. She giggled, then pointed to the wire on the floor.
“See, it’s connected here then goes all the way to the desk at the back. That’s probably where you set it, so that when you’re working you can stop someone from rushing in uninvited, or disarm it when there’s a knock! I actually made something similar for my room when I was younger, but instead of a giant hammer it dropped a blanket from the ceiling!”
“You.. Your ceiling??”
“Yeah! I caught my dad in it a few times when he was trying to tidy up my inventions! Sure, it was a little messy but as long as I knew where everything was did it really matter? But wow, Saihara-kun, you noticed where it was so fast! What tipped you off? Or as a magician have you trained to have amazing night vision so you can run around the stage when the lights go out?”
“N-no, my vision’s normal. I saw the wire so I knew something was coming.”
“But you knew where it was coming from,” Kaede countered, putting her hands on her hips and tilting her head. “I could tell something was happening too, but you knew where. How?”
“...” Shuichi retrieved his hat from the floor, and glanced up. “...I heard the hinge and knew it was something swinging, and then felt next to us to see how high the f-furniture was.”
Kaede raised a brow and looked around. Sure enough next to them on the side the mallet swung front was a bench that came up to about her waist, right where Shuichi had pulled her down to. She carefully pushed the mallet and looked up at the ceiling and just as it reached the farther side she heard the hinge squeak. It wasn’t very loud, but they had both fallen silent when the clicking started, she had just been so focused on it. “That’s amazing that you noticed!”
“It isn’t that big a deal,” he answered, dusting himself off rapidly, and taking in the rest of the place.
“I think it’s really cool! That was like something in a spy movie, how you saved me!”
“But it wasn’t actually dangerous.”
“You thought it was, though, right?”
“...” The magician fell silent again, adjusting the brim of his hat.
The inventor huffed, but decided not to push it, walking further into the lab to marvel at all the materials. There were so many things in so many sizes. So much cool stuff she could make with these! She fished through a bin, checking some rubber tubing, a little bell, and even an old toaster before she noticed what had Shuichi's attention. She set her new treasures down and stepped over quietly to look at it as well, from behind him.
“...So, did you want to talk now? It’s just us,” Kaede prompted again, lightly.
“Well, the thing is, Akamatsu-san… Even if I wanted to, I can’t tell you how that trick worked.”
“Oh, it’s okay if you don’t know. But I figured the Ultimate Magician might!”
“No that’s… That’s not quite it. See, there’s a thing called The Magician’s Oath. I’m bound by my honour as a magician, and as my uncle’s apprentice.”
“An oath? Is it serious? What are the conditions?” Kaede asked. Then she realized. “Wait! Then you DO know how that trick works?”
“It’s not the point whether I do or not, it’s that even if I do, I can’t tell you.”
“That doesn’t seem fair, not even if I guess? What’s this oath anyways?” Kaede asks with a pout.
Shuichi sighed, and lowered his hand. He began to speak, or more likely, quote. “As a magician, I promise never to reveal the secret of any illusion to a non-magician, unless that one swears to uphold the Oath in turn. I promise never to perform any illusion for any non-magician without first practicing the effect until I can perform it well enough to maintain the illusion of magic.” He peered at her from under the edge of his hat. “When I became an apprentice I had to agree to that. It’s pretty simple.”
Kaede tilted her head, ponytail bobbing. “Yeah, it is pretty simple.” She cleared her throat. “As a magician, I promise never to-”
“H-hold on! What are you-?”
“I’m swearing the oath!”
“But you’re not a magician!”
“Well, yeah, but I have to swear the Magician’s Oath to become one right? Otherwise you can’t teach me anything!”
“You… What?”
Kaede beamed brightly. “I’ll become a magician! Then I can become your apprentice, and you can show me how to do the illusions, right? I bet having an assistant will make them easier to do here, you could even put on a show before we find your lab if I make the tricks”
“Why do you want to do magic? Aren’t you an inventor?”
“Why do you think I invent stuff, Saihara-kun?”
“...Um.”
Kaede sighed, but her smile remained. “I invent things so people get to see something new. And what’s more new than magic tricks? Sure, I can make lots of other stuff, but this will be new for me too, and that’s exciting! Please, let me be your assistant.”
“I’m still learning myself, I’m not sure I can teach the stuff you want to know…”
“That’s fine! I want to know everything so anything you know is fine!”
“..You’re sure?”
Kaede nodded, and took his hand. “I promise! Now repeat the oath with me, I’ve already forgotten the words!”
Shuichi’s cheeks reddened under the shadow of his hat, but his hand curled around hers after a moment and he gave a shaky nod. “O-okay.”
Together, they recited it. “As a magician, I promise never to reveal the secret…”
A new duo was invented that day in the lab.

fandom ask game - 2, 7, 25 ?
(7 n 25 with whatever character you'd like (: )
Thanks for the ask! From the Fandom Ask Game here!

2. OT3?
Aw man, do I have to pick just one...? Genuinely that's really hard to do as a multishipper, but hmm.......
I think Amaoumota goes pretty hard, tbh! Komahinanami as well, but also consider... Kamuoumaeda...? I like mashing Ouma into very strange dynamics and somehow they always come out compelling to me lmao
7. Is there a piece of clothing you think [character] is particularly fond of/that you imagine them wearing a lot or like to draw them in?
Ah, I feel like this is a copout choice, but Ouma's checkered scarf I feel is super important to him. I like to imagine that it goes beyond even just fondness and more like it's a comfort item. Load bearing checkered scarf. He would have a conniption if he lost it.
If I were to go into agere with it, too? It's like a security blanket he can wear. It's his lovie. He sleeps with that thing in my heart. He has to be bribed heavily just to hand it over for laundry day.
25. What’s your least favorite thing [character] said or did?
Ugh that's another hard one... Because it's like, there are a lot of terrible things that happened and that various characters did that I didn't like as a thing that happened because it's a terrible thing to have happened, but at the same time given the situation and the narrative, I can understand what they did that.
Either they were in a position where they really had no choice (Ouma's whole situation in chapter 4 where he had no choice but to get someone's help taking care of Iruma because of the immobilization code on his avatar)
Or they were under immense stress and couldn't be expected to reasonably spin all the plates they were expected to (Saihara completely dismissing the gravity of Ouma's head injury in chapter 3 because he was, essentially, already overwhelmed by the whole double-murder thing and thus did not have the emotional or cognitive spoons to handle Ouma's shit)
Or it was simply a narrative thing that had to happen because that's the best way to set up the dominoes for arcs ahead ("You're alone Ouma-kun, and you always will be")
Like while it hurts that these things happened, I can't say I don't understand why they did. So I feel like it's a bit more complicated than just that I didn't like them.
I thought it was realistic for the situation, but that doesn't make it hurt less, y'know?

“Saihara-chan!” Kokichi rocks on his heels with his hands linked behind his head, an innocent, wide grin plastered on his face. On instinct, he tilts his head to the side, eyeing up the detective from where he stood. “You promised me we'd hang out―don't tell me you forgot!”
( ooc: hiya!! i hope it's okay to just shoot something your way & no pressure to respond asap or at all―let me know if you'd want something else/directed at a different muse! i saw shuichi and kokichi decided to point and yell it's very nice to meet you!!! )
Tumblr media
Normally that kind of grin would make him rather at ease with someone, but after attending Hope's Peak with the supreme leader for this much time, he had learned to not entirely trust it. "Ouma-kun, did something happen?" He wondered what exactly this was going to lead to before trying to remember if he actually did promise something like that. He couldn't really recall, but Shuichi thinks that he could have agreed to something like this if Kokichi was being particularly persistent and he just wanted it to stop. "I see... I don't really mind since I have nothing to do today, but... when exactly did I promise that?"

HI IF IM TOO LATE FOR THESE ITS OK but may i humbly ask for........ "we're out of time" with saiibo or perhaps a "go on, cry" with kaedekiibo....... whatever you feel like doing............
Shuichi loses track of time.
There’s too much to investigate. Amami’s lab. Ouma’s lab. Ouma’s room. The secret room in the library. The secret room in Momota’s lab. There are heaping piles of evidence to be examined, different conclusions to be drawn from each, and not to mention the flashes of memories they receive as the walls shake around them… Shuichi barely even knows where to start with it all. But he has to start, or they’re all going to die.
He works his way around the academy with the aid of his friends, dodging the exisals to the best of his ability, but finds himself slipping more than once. Too many details to get caught up in. Amami’s tone in his video, the piles upon piles of papers in Ouma’s bedroom… Shuichi can’t help but linger a bit too long in some places, feet dragging with exhaustion as he follows Yumeno through the tunnel in the girl’s bathroom.
How long has it been since I slept? Shuichi rubs his eyes with one hand and stifles a yawn. I can’t even remember…
Which in and of itself is a bad sign, but Shuichi doesn’t have time to sleep. He can feel the pieces already starting to stitch themselves together in his brain, but there’s still so much more to do. He finds his way to the flashback light machine in one of the classrooms and pieces through the options, his brow creasing as he considers the implications. So some of their memories are fake, but… what’s the extent of it? How much is truth and how much was a lie? How much was created to bend them all to their will?
Shuichi makes selections and tabs between the different screens, eyes not leaving the blackboard. He needs to figure this out… just how much of it all was fake, how much of it was…
A loud crash sounds from outside. Shuichi startles, dropping the flashback light he’d been holding and running out into the hall. The problem is immediately obvious: Sunlight is streaming through the windows, from large holes in the wall, revealing…
The sun has risen. Shuichi is too late. Overhead, Kiibo soars over the school, gun flashing in his hand, and Shuichi clenches his teeth.
“Kiibo-kun! Please, I just need a little more time!”
Kiibo comes to a stop, floating somewhere around Shuichi’s eyesight before he slowly lowers himself down to the ground. “I can’t, Saihara-kun. I told you I’d do until dawn, and I can’t—” He whirls around to shoot a piece of rubble out of the air, then looks back over his shoulder at Shuichi. “I can’t fend them off for much longer. That was the most time I could give you.”
Shuichi’s chest squeezes with panic. “But Kiibo-kun, I’m justI’m there, I just need to finish piecing everything together and then I swear—”
“You know, Saihara-kun…”
There’s an uncharacteristic melancholy in Kiibo’s voice. His eyes are soft—can a robot’s eyes soften? Shuichi’s voice seems to dry up in his throat.
“I always… admired you. I relied on you to get us to the truth, to bring us closer to justice, and… you always did that. I suppose that is why I heeded your request this time… I wanted to rely on you again. Let the burden rest on your shoulders.”
Shuichi’s eyes sting. He grasps at his chest and manages, “Kiibo-kun…”
“But I won’t allow myself to do that any longer.” Kiibo squares his shoulders. “This is the solution. I can feel it. It’s time for the sun to set on this place for the last time.” He raises his gun, wing attachments shooting back up again as he prepares himself for blastoff. “I hope you can forgive me.”
From his spot on the ground, Shuichi has no choice but to stand and watch as Kiibo soars away to put an end to it all. To the Ultimate Academy, and to the suffering they went through within it… for better or for worse.
Despite the lingering disappointment of secrets yet unrevealed, the feeling that he could have stopped this, as Shuichi ducks to dodge a falling piece of a wall, an odd sense of calm seems to wash over him.
They’re all just… out of time. Nothing to be done for it now.

Jangmi breathed out a discreet sigh of relief as Satoru took over his own introduction. Their situation wasn't so complicated. Most people would summarize it easily as a 'friends with benefits' sort of relationship. However, there was some nagging feeling in the back of her mind that hesitated to say so. She reasoned with herself that she must not want to ruin Satoru's chances of scoring with some of her friends... Even if the idea made jealousy curl in her chest, she also knew that ultimately she had no control over what he did, or any say in it, either. They weren't together. Besides... she knew how good he was. Could she really be so selfish as to deprive her friends of him? Yes, yes she could. It didn't seem that any of that mattered, anyway. From Ayumi's suspicious glances at Jangmi, she could tell her friend sensed that there was more between them than he was explaining, but she would wait until later to ask about it.
Obsidian eyes widened and shot to him as a light flush appeared on her cheeks--her makeup was light, just eyeliner and mascara really, so there was nothing to obscure the pink color. "Y-yeah. A social butterfly," she hastily added, but the 'damage' was done. Ayumi was giving Jangmi a knowing look, and the sorcerer blushed harder.
Ayumi had mercy on her friend and answered Satoru for her while she was trying to regain her composure. "Both, maybe. Dancing and drinking for now, though. It depends on if we get too wasted whether we'll go to karaoke or not."
"Speak for yourself. I do not get wasted," Jangmi interjected as she followed Ayumi into the club, ignoring her friend's very sarcastic "Uh-huuuh." A little shiver worked its way down her spine at Satoru's hand on her back. She couldn't deny that his touch thrilled her, even when it was as innocuous as this. Though she knew it made it look a bit like she was his, she found she didn't really mind it. Actually, it was just enough possessiveness without being overbearing, and it turned her on a little if she was being honest.
The club was dark except for colorful lasers zooming in intricate patterns. Even so, Ayumi knew exactly where to go, leading them directly to one of the tables away from the dance floor. Three other girls were there, who Ayumi introduced as Kumiko, Namie, and Yuna. Jangmi hurried forward to give each girl a quick, friendly hug. The remaining friend was introduced as Saihara Shuichi, whose smile was a little tight at the sight of Satoru, but he opened his arms for Jangmi nonetheless. When he embraced her, he lingered for a long moment, and he whispered something in her ear that only she could hear because of the music, but it made her giggle as she stepped back. Ayumi took the liberty of telling the others who Satoru was.
Because Ayumi had already gotten over the initial surprise of seeing Satoru, she was the one that went off to get the drinks for everyone. Kumiko was quick to suggest, "We should exchange numbers, Satoru-kun."
"What?" Namie asked, looking at her incredulously.
"Why?" came Yuna, sounding a bit betrayed.
"Because what if Jangmi doesn't show up to class one day and doesn't text us? How will we know if she's okay?" Kumiko explained, though from the flirtatious twinkle in her eyes it was obvious that her reasoning was just an excuse to get Satoru's number.
Jangmi laughed a little, though she was nervous. She had a feeling Satoru might thrive off the attention, but there was always a chance he'd be annoyed being treated a bit like a piece of meat. "I would definitely text you."
"But what if you don't, is what I'm saying." Kumiko insisted, holding her phone out. "Right, Satoru-kun? We should keep in touch, for Jangmi's safety." Namie and Yuna were quick to pull out their phones and open up their contacts lists, reaching across the table to bring their phones within grabbing distance of Satoru, chiming in "Me, too."
he's relieved that the answer he's met with is a yes, although perhaps this wasn't the wisest decision. is he overstepping here by joining her out with her friends? she likely doesn't see it that, way considering him one of her friends as well, but still... it was different. yeah. it was different to satoru. for starters, jangmi didn't get up to the same thing she did with her friends as with him. that's what he assumed, at least, though perhaps there was a lot about jangmi he didn't know...? it was doubtful, though. he knew she had a lot on her plate. an outing like this was rare for her.
"nice to meet you. i'm jangmi-chan's work friend, gojo satoru. you can call me satoru-kun, if you'd like," satoru winks as he speaks before giving a slight bow upon introduction. they were likely confused by his presence since jangmi hadn't had the chance to let her friends know he'd be tagging along, but that was fine. satoru was quite the talkative type and found it easy to meet new people. he did want to keep an eye on this saihara fellow, however... just in case.
"she needed a ride, and her dear friend satoru-kun doesn't drink at all, so here i am! i hope you don't mind my presence. despite not being a drinker myself, i can assure you i'm real fun all the same. right, jangmi-chan?" he turns to look at her a bit as he addresses her, and sure enough, there's a double entendre loaded in his choice of words that likely goes over the head of jangmi's friend. or maybe not. he had arrived with his hand in jangmi's. he could see how easy it was to assume there was more going on there... mostly because there was. but also not really. friends with benefits, for as much as satoru likes to insist is not any different than just friends, most definitely is. regardless, he'll pretend it's all the same to him.
"well ladies, lead the way! what are we doing tonight? dancing? karaoke?" and as they walk, satoru can't really help himself. his hand seems to be drawn to the small of jangmi's back like a magnet. if she minds it, she has yet to say anything to him about it.

"Please, Saihara-Kun! I am sure you will do a fine job of it. You will not do any damage to my hands!" Kiibo insisted. "I wish to be part of this manicure activity as well!"
"I-I... Well, okay, but... I've never done this before." Shuichi admitted, sitting at the table across from the now eager robot. "Um... What color do you want?"
"I believe this teal color would look best on me." Kiibo replied, pointing to a bottle hesitantly. Shuichi nodded and started to unscrew the cap, only to realize he was twisting the wrong way. He sighed and twisted the cap correctly, opening the nail polish. To any onlooker, one thing was obvious: Neither party knew what he was doing.
"Try and hold still, okay? It'll make things easier." Shuichi requested, taking the brush out of the bottle. Kiibo nodded, sitting up straight and holding as still as he possibly could.
"I understand."
"Kiibo-Kun... I need you to hold out your hands so I can paint them."
"Oh, right!"
With that, Shuichi bit his lip and began to paint the tips of Kiibo's fingers. Kiibo did not have any visible fingernails, but Shuichi tried his best to approximate where they would be. Kiibo didn't say a word or move at all until Shuichi was finally done applying a coat of color to each finger.
"They look excellent, Saihara-Kun!"
"R-Really?"
"Yes, they do! Thank you so much!"
Kiibo and I grew a little closer today.
You gained a Hope Fragment!
Gundham Tanaka
"Hmph... The gall! The sheer nerve!"
"Tanaka-Kun-" Sonia started.
"The idea that I, Gundham Tanaka, Supreme Overlord Of Ice, would engage in such an activity?! Preposterous! Incomprehensible! Inconceivable!"
"Then why do you own a bottle of black nail polish, Tanaka-Kun?"
Gundham seemed to wilt. "I-I... Erm..."
"Tanaka-Kun, such a thing is nothing to be ashamed of." Sonia assured, offering a smile. "Should I offer to paint your nails instead?"
"N-No!" Gundham recovered, hiding his blushing face with his scarf. "I am sure I shall manage just fine. Mirage Golden Hawk Jum-P shall sit by your side as we proceed, to ensure that you are protected from any dark forces that may disrupt this delicate ritual."
"Wonderful!" Sonia beamed, sitting cross-legged in front of Gundham. The sleepy white and brown hamster, as promised, made his way to Sonia's side and curled up there, closing his eyes. Sonia held out her delicate hands, and Gundham proceeded with the manicure. There was a period of silence before Gundham finally spoke.
"Tell me, Lady Of Darkness. Are such traditions as this prominent in the realm in which you usually reside?"
"Oh, yes! I have seen many palace servants with painted nails! I think it is as common in the kingdom of Novoselic as it is everywhere else."
"I see." Gundham replied. He had completed his work quickly and skillfully, applying multiple coats of polish to each finger. Now he was getting ready to apply the clear top coat.
"My goodness!" Sonia giggled. "You seem to have experience in painting nails, Gundham!"
"Hmph... I am Tanaka The Forbidden One! To think I would not be skilled in such a menial field as this is absurd."
"If you say so." Sonia replied knowingly, allowing the breeder to finish applying the top coat to her nails with a smile.
Kaede Akamatsu
"There you are!" Kaede exclaimed, practically lighting up with excitement as the door opened.
"Hey, Akamatsu-San." Rantaro greeted, rubbing the back of his head a little. "What's this about?"
"Oh, well, remember how you gave me an amazing manicure a while ago?"
"Oh, yeah. Why?"
"Well, I wanted to return the favor!" She proclaimed, gesturing to a table laden with all the appropriate items needed. Rantaro could even see a book on the table titled "Manicures for beginners."
"Oh, really?" Rantaro chuckled. "Well, I don't see why not."
"Great!" Kaede replied, sitting down. Rantaro sat down across from him and extended his hands.
"Do you have a color preference, Amami-Kun?" Kaede asked, laying down a towel for her to work over.
"No, not really. Guess if I had to pick, I'd go with either green or black, but my sisters always insisted on painting 'em pink for some reason."
"Aw, that's adorable!" Kaede giggled, opening a bottle of dark green nail polish. "Did they stick little rhinestones on, too?"
"They tried once. I think more polish ended up on the carpet than on my hands." Rantaro chuckled.
"Well, that's what happens when you give kids messy things, I guess." Kaede replied with a smile as she began to paint Rantaro's nails. He let out a small chuckle, echoing the words she had said to him a long time ago.
"H-Hey, Akamatsu-San! That tickles!"
Kaede giggled in reply, continuing on with her work. Rantaro spared another glance at the "Manicures For Beginners" book at the edge of the table as Kaede began to attempt a French Slant of her own. He had a feeling that she would give him a better manicure than his sisters ever had, but he would never have said that out loud.
Kokichi Oma
"Okie dokie! How are things going with you two?" A masked girl with ponytails asked in a singsong voice.
"Perfectly!" Kokichi beamed, not looking up from his work. The unfortunate recipient of the manicure, a well-endowed woman wearing gold hoop earrings, gave a pained smile. Clearly, things were not going perfectly.
"Um... Interesting color combo you've got going there!" Someone else commented, peering over Kokichi's shoulder. "Very... Bold!"
"Nishishi! You flatter me." Kokichi chuckled in reply.
"Did you... Color one of her nails with an orange marker?" Someone else asked. By now, every single member of D. I. C. E was leaning over, looking at Kokichi's handiwork.
"Sure did!" He replied. "Okay... Done!"
"They look very colorful, Ouma-Sama." Someone else chuckled. "And so does the table."
"Nishishi! Of course they- Wait, what?"
Kokichi looked down at the table, seeing the splatters of color that now littered it. Everyone giggled.
"H-Hey! As your Supreme Leader, I order you all to stop laughing!" He scoffed. "We can clean this up fine!"
"I-I'll get some paper towels..." A girl with long brown hair sighed, turning before anyone could say anything more.
"So much for D. I. C. E manicure sessions, eh?" The tallest member of the group chuckled, looking at his red nails that now perfectly matched his bright afro.
"Pfft... What are you talking about? Seems like it was a complete success to me!"
The rest of the group giggled again. Kokichi looked up at them, annoyed.
"Hey! This is a super duper serious matter, you know!"
"Sure it is, Ouma-Sama." Someone else replied, their voice dripping with sarcasm. "Sure it is."

Shuichi x fem!reader fluffshot
desc; shuichi with a fem!s/o who enjoys wearing dresses. she goes out of her way to buy a dress for a date.
warnings; they're in highschool? i think???, suggestive depends on how you look at it, fluff, so many clichés, i did some fake text messages bc i didnt know how to type the text message format
word count; 2k
“Hmm...” You hummed frustratingly as you skimmed through the dresses in the shop, not finding one you were happy with. You were trying to find a dress that you thought Shuichi would like, but so far you haven’t found one that piqued your interest. You furrowed your brow at a blue dress that you came across on, looking at the back in interest. You grinned as you finally found the right one, the one you were going to wear for the date you had with Shuichi.
As you brought it to the counter and took out your wallet, you couldn’t stop thinking of how Shuichi would react. You felt giddy from the excitement of seeing him flushed from the sight of you. Quickly purchasing the dress, you grabbed the handle of the bag the dress was in and made your way back home with a bounce in your step.
As you sat in one of the public bus seats, you checked your phone for the time. Your eyes widened in panic when you saw the big bold letters read, “5:00 pm” That meant you only had 1 hour to prepare for the date you had with Shuichi. You put your phone back in your pocket and started fidgeting with your fingers in distress, predicting how much time it would take for you to get home, shower and dress up. ‘Would there be enough time?’ You thought. Shifting uncomfortably in your seat as the anxiety bubbled up inside you, waiting to pour out.
Whilst you were panicking in the bus seat, Shuichi was at his house trying on multiple shirts that he was unhappy with. He stood in front of his full body mirror with faux confidence, “H-hey there uh, you look great!” He spoke to the mirror with a nervous smile, picturing you in front of him. His face dropped as he sighed, “Great? Great!? Get it together Shuichi, we both know that she’s much more than great.” He grumbled to himself as he took off his shirt and--yet again-- put on another one.
He looked in the mirror, examining the black button-up on his back. He made a sound of uncertainty before nodding, “Eh, okay.” He inhaled before faced the mirror again and looking himself dead in the eyes. “S/o, would you be my girlfriend?” He said--surprisingly--without a single stutter, before breaking character and groaning. He squatted down and muffled his screams in his knees, face red from shame. “I can’t do this,”
“No, I-I can do this. What would Kaito say if he saw you being such a coward?” He muttered as he stood up and paced the room stressfully, before stopping and staring at the flowers he got for you. He had an internal battle in his head between ‘What if she says no?’ and ‘But what if she says yes?’ In the end, he decided that future Shuichi would decide.
~~~
Once the bus stopped near your home, you quickly hopped off the stairs of the vehicle and started jogging to your house. You unlocked the door to your house and rushed to your room. Checking the time again, it read 5:14 pm. ‘Perfect.’ You thought as you hastily stripped yourself of your clothes and showered. No longer than 10 minutes later, you carefully got out of the shower, careful not to slip. While you dried yourself, you heard your phone ring. Unlocking your phone, you smiled at the message from Shuichi.
Tumblr media
Shuichi yelped as he pressed send, throwing his phone at his bed. You replied back with trembling fingers and rosy cheeks.
Tumblr media
You laughed loudly as you watched his calm composed texts turned into embarrassed apologies. Your nerves easing as you laughed. Taking a small breather, you replied back with a goofy smile on your face.
Tumblr media
You left his last message on read as you dried your hair with a victorious smile. Whilst you basked in glory, Shuichi was at his house, trying his best not to imagine you naked. “Keep it together, Shuichi!” He told himself, voice muffled by his hands. He lightly whacked his head, trying to stop where his thought process was going. He really didn’t want to picture you naked; He would never look at you the same way if he did. Shaking his head of his strange thoughts, he went to the bathroom to splash some water on his face.
~~~
Once you dried your hair thoroughly, you got out of the bathroom, shivering as you felt the cold hair hit your damp skin. You quickly slipped on your undergarments, wanting some sort of material on your cold body. After slipping on your undergarments, you made your way towards the small paper bag you had left near your room door. You reached into the bag and grabbed the dress, grinning excitedly as you saw the glossy dark blue fabric.
You put on the dress and went to go check yourself in the mirror. Looking into your reflection, you beamed at how your dress looked on your figure. You felt like a fucking Disney princess. You made a few funny power poses in the mirror to hype yourself up. This might be your new favourite, you thought, you just hope that Shuichi likes the dress just as much as you do. You did a few playful spins in the mirror, before glancing at the clock on your wall, ‘5:35 pm.’ Looks like you had more time than you needed.
You sat down on your bed, picking up your phone, and opening the messaging app to text Shuichi. Your thumb hovered over the keys, as you hesitated. You decided it would be rude to ask someone if they wanted to go earlier when you had already agreed on a time. So, instead, you exited the app and scrolled on Tumblr, occasionally laughing at a shitpost.
〜〜〜
Shuichi stared at his phone, waiting for the screen to light up with a notification impatiently. His ahoge perking up every time he saw his screen brighten up with a notification, but deflating when he saw it wasn’t you. He glared at the small box before caving in and grabbing his phone. He opened the messaging app, about to text you when suddenly, his phone started vibrating. He almost dropped his phone from surprise, fumbling it until he caught it. Unfortunately, his thumb had tapped on the answer button before he could see who it was.
When he finally held his phone in his hands to look at it clearly, his eyes widened as his heart thumped when he saw your name. Clearing his throat, he quickly brought his phone next to his ear, letting out a squeaky, “Hello?” He winced at the unwanted pubescent sound his throat made, face-palming as his voice failed him.
“Uh-Hi! Is-is your throat okay?” You asked, unsure if who you heard was Shuichi. “U-um yeah- No, my uh, my throat is fine.” He cleared his throat once again. It was as if he had forgotten to speak, somehow managing to mess up each word. “S-so, why’d you call?” Shuichi asked nervously, trying to steer the conversation away from his squeaky voice. He awaited your answer as he laid on his back on his bed, gripping his phone with one hand and leaving the back of his other hand on his forehead.
~~~
“No reason, really. Guess I just got impatient and wanted to hear your voice.” You slyly replied, your face heating up with every word that made its way out of your mouth. You see, that was a lie. You had actually been trying to change his contact name to something funny but you had accidentally pressed the call button. What? Did you really think you would have enough confidence to call him yourself? Hah, you wish! You should be thanking your ginormous fingers.
Shuichi sighed dreamily, basking in the sound of your voice. He was so entranced by the sound of it, that the lovesick idiot forgot to reply. Causing your thoughts to go into overdrive and your confidence to go ‘poof!’, “Oh! I-I’m sorry if that’s weird! I just mea-” He snapped out of his daze the moment he heard your panicked voice, quick to dismiss your thought process, “N-no, it’s not weird! To be honest, I wanted to hear your voice too but I just d-didn’t have enough confidence to call.” He admitted quietly, face flushing from his mini confession.
“O-oh.” You were sure you were going to pass out from overheating, he wanted to hear your voice too! You lived in the thought that Shuichi likes the sound of your voice. Shuichi continued the conversation, “So... Tell me about the dress you said you thought I’d like, I’d love to hear about how it looks.” Shuichi smiled fondly, knowing how much you love dresses. As the image of you in a summer dress popped up in his head, he felt his heart warm up. He’s extremely grateful that you enjoy wearing dresses because he enjoys seeing you in them just as much.
Every time he sees you approach him with a dress on, he’s on cloud 9. He swore he was the luckiest man alive when you accepted to go out with him. As you giggled at his words, you were unaware of the effect your giggle had on this man. Your giggle was near fatal for a love-sick fool like him, you made his heart pump just a little bit faster in his chest.
“Nice try, Saihara-Kun. But it’s a surprise! Don’t worry about it though, I am positive you’ll like it.” You teased, running your fingers on the glossy blue fabric in thought. Shuichi chuckled underneath his breath, making your heart skip a beat this time. “You caught me,” Shuichi confessed, laughing quietly. You pressed your hands against your red cheeks, feeling how warm they were.
Glancing at the clock, you spoke, “Oh hey, it’s already 5:46 pm. Are you going to pick me up, Mr. Detective?” You purred, standing up and searching for your purse. Shuichi checked the time on his phone, eyes widening at the time, “Already? It felt much shorter than that.” You shook your head and laughed, “Time goes faster when you’re having fun.” You chimed. “That’s the most cliché thing I’ve ever heard you say.” Shuichi deadpanned, causing you to chuckle at the tone of his voice.
“But it’s pretty accurate isn’t it?” Shuichi sighed in defeat, “I guess so. Or maybe the author was too lazy to write more.” You hummed in agreement, “That’s probably what happened, yeah.” You smiled softly before saying the words neither of you wanted to hear, “Hey, we have to hang up now.” Shuichi felt dread wash over his body at the thought of not hearing your voice, “You have to pick me up remember?” You reminded, cleaning your room a bit before you left. “Don’t hang up.” He pouted, not wanting to stop hearing your voice.
“Shuichi, I’m going to see you in, like, less than 10 minutes.” You giggled at his desperate tone of voice, “Trust me, I don’t want to hang up either.” Shuichi exaggerated his sigh, “Okay, okay, I’m on my way. I’ll see you in 10 minutes, yeah?” He quickly got up, smoothening the wrinkles on his dress shirt. “Yup!” You gushed, feeling caught up in the moment you blurted out, “Love you!”
Crazily enough, Shuichi didn’t seem to notice it either as he replied, “Love you too.” As both of you hung up, you paused. ‘Wait.’
Shuichi also froze, ‘wait a second.’ The two oblivious idiots simultaneously had a mental breakdown, both realizing that they both had just confessed to each other. What did this mean? Were you two a couple now?? Shuichi pushed the thought to the back of his head, focusing on the fact he had to drive to your house and he couldn’t be distracted(drive safely!). He picked up his keys and the roses he had gotten for you earlier today, and made his way out the door.
You slipped on your heels with one hand while you held your purse with the other. Looking in the mirror one more time, you adjusted your dress slightly before taking a peek at the clock. 5:59 pm. You made your way to the door and opened it. Jolting when you saw Shuichi’s tall body right in front of you, “Shui- Why didn’t you ring the doorbell?” You questioned, cocking your head to the side. Shuichi looked at you in awe, you were right, he really did love your dress.
“I... Uh...” He couldn’t say anything as he marvelled over the way you looked in the blue dress. You grinned bashfully, twirling a bit for him. “You like it?” You bit your lip, looking up at him. He simply nodded, not able to think of any words to describe how godly you looked at the moment.
Holy shit, he really, really wanted to kiss you.
He found himself slowly leaning towards you, eyeing your lips. “Shu?” You tried to snap him out of his daze, before realizing where his eyes were trained on. Realization dawned over you and you flushed, eyeing his lips as in turn. Reaching up to grab his face, you gently put your hands on his jaw and craned your neck to kiss him. Thank god for the heels, you would’ve had to pull him down without them.
His eyes expanded due to the fact you made the first move. Closing his eyes, he gripped your hips, sliding his hands over the material of your dress. As he kept going for more of your lips, more of your touch, more of you, the more he became intoxicated. But to his dismay, you pulled away, breath fanning against his chin. “Ditch the date?” You asked, trying to gain your breath back. “Ditch the date.” Shuichi eagerly replied, curling his arm around your waist and pulling you inside your house, closing the door behind him.
this is so long ;--; and unedited- hsbhjbdkndfx i hope you guys enjoyed this! super fun to write brooo, and hey! its only 1 am! proud of me? :D - mod chia
The Capital Magical Defense Force
For @oumota-events
DAY 1: Magical Boys AU
Rating: T+
Warnings: Violence, blood, death mentioned, darker implications. Yeah it’s one of those magical au. The daaaaark subversions.
Notes: This is the longest one because we’re starting off with a big bang~ It’s not that long though. It’s just not a ficlet unlike the others. I did really enjoy writing this though. It’s a pretty...fun...au. Yeah. Haha.
Ao3 Link
In just about every world, there are unseen forces to make sure a system works a certain way. That the cogs in the machine turn without fail and that any disturbances are dealt with promptly. These unseen forces can be mundane and dull—but they can also be fantastical...while still incredibly dull.
In this instance, there are two worlds. The dull, mundane one and the dull, fantastical one. The only way to transverse is through contracts between the respective denizens, and it turns out that said contracts are necessary to keep everything in order.
There are benefits, truly. If one world collapses, the other is taken with it. It is within everyone’s best interest that the denizens work together—even if certain manipulations need to be made. After all, the greater good is such a vague and nebulous concept. It’s more encouraging to offer personal gains.
Like, for example, keeping someone alive, be it from sickness or the aftereffects of a horrible, terrible, despairing accident. The desire to live is a powerful force shared among many, both dim-witted and intelligent. It’s an efficient deal to make, especially when the other side of the exchange is not only responsibilities, but special, magical abilities to deal with those responsibilities.
Shame, then, that one particular being blessed with those abilities, those responsibilities, that gift of survival...doesn’t seem to fully appreciate it. Certain arrangements have been made. That being has been assigned to the same areas as another being of a similar caliber, but far more keen to do what must be done.
This is as much an experiment as it is an effort to keep matters under control. Observations are to be as follows...
--
“In the name of the stars, I’m gonna kick your fucking ass!!”
The town hero known as Starboy was being filmed again. Floating about, sending so-called comet punch after comet punch. The monster squealed under the abuse, but it didn’t squeal as much as that fucking eyesore that tailed the magical boy around as he cursed colorfully under his breath.
“This jackass just doesn’t know when to quit!”
“S-Starboy-kun,” the thing whimpered. “Please watch your language! Kids idolize you!”
“Sorry!” Starboy exclaimed, focusing more on the fight thankfully. “It’s just—let me protect the city first!!”
With a battle cry, Starboy summoned all his strength for a starstorm, pummeling the monster more and more until it fizzled out of existence. Starboy was left slumped on the ground and gasping for breath, but still found it in him to whoop for joy.
Unfortunately for him, that moment of victory was short-lived.
“Geeeez, Starboy-chan, I thought you’d really get trampled this time! You didn’t even need any help!” Another magical boy landed on the scene, right next to where the monster had once been and plucking up the fragment which was all that remained.
“H-Hey!” Starboy shouted, more like wheezed. “What the hell—that’s not yours to take!”
“It’s payment for making me worry so much,” he cackled. “You really should be more careful! You don’t want to be killed in the line of duty, now do you?”
Weakened as he was from the fight, dodging Starboy lurching towards him was child’s play.
“D-Dice!!” that eyesore shrieked. “You and Starboy-kun should be working together! Why are you doing this?!”
Dice gave that thing a cold stare, but grinned in Starboy’s direction.
“Because I like you. That’s a lie. I like messing with you. Also a lie! I really—love you, Starboy-chan!”
“Quit messing around!” Starboy gasped. “Y-You—if you need those damn fragments, you don’t have to steal them! You’re a magical boy, aren’t ya?! You should be helping me defend the city! And then I’d split them with ya even!”
Aah. This guy...
“Oh Starboy-chan, I actually, truthfully loathe you,” Dice sighed.
“D-Dice!” the thing shrieked and without looking, Dice had fired a beam that knocked the pitifully contemptible creature out, much to Starboy’s dismay.
“S-SHIROKUMA...!”
Before he could go to help, however, Dice had seized the bow of his uniform, yanking him to not-quite eye level.
“If you know what’s good for you, you’d stop bothering with that thing and join me instead.”
Starboy only scowled.
“Why the hell would I join you when you act like a villain! I-If I could, I’d beat your ass too...!”
Such a remark gets Dice shoving him back, knocking him onto the ground. Starboy glared up at him defiantly, his stare only darkening as Dice grinned.
“It’s a joke, obviously!” he chirped. “After all—what sort of desperate loser would want to ally with an idiot like you?”
Starboy shouted at him, but whatever he shouted, he was already long gone. Starboy shouted again but, being the justice-obsessed type, he switched gears to muster up the strength to go stumbling after the fainted Shirokuma. Scooping the pitiful bear head-looking creature into his hands, Starboy avoided the incoming paparazzi and gracious civilians and rushed off to safety.
The ideal worker. Starboy will be a great boon of energy in the future once his limit is reached.
--
“Dice is such a fucking dick,” Kaito grumbles, rubbing ointment onto his bruises. “We’re both working for the same thing but for no reason at all, he’s self-serving and a piece of shit.”
He observes himself in the mirror, rubbing at the circles under his eyes. He’s been going at this whole magical boy hero thing for almost a year. It’s getting harder and harder, but for the sake of the city, he can’t give up. He’s its protector, after all.
Still, it’s getting difficult. His wastebasket is filled with bloodied tissue and bandages. Shirokuma, at least, is currently resting in a bucket of warm water. Dice’s attack had been as sudden as it was vicious, and for what?
“Why is he such a dick?” Kaito asks, but Shirokuma hums.
“Some people...are just bad. It can’t be helped. I’m sorry if that sounds despairing, Momota-kun.”
“Bad, huh.”
It’s not the first time he’s gotten that answer. When he describes Dice to his sidekicks, he more or less gets the same response. Harumaki even goes out of her way to call Dice a supervillain, which Shuuichi agrees to, but...
Here’s a secret that no one else knows. The crack in the foundation so painstakingly paved for black and white heroism.
Dice has saved his life more than once. When blood rushed up his throat and his knees buckled in, Dice would swoop in and let him save face. It would be passed off as Dice once again taking advantage of the situation...but it always, always happens when Kaito is facing death head-on.
Dice is a dick. A self-serving piece of shit. Possibly a supervillain.
He’s also definitely looking out for Starboy. It’s happened too consistently for Kaito to be convinced it’s unintentional.
If Dice insists on helping him, then surely he can’t be a bad person...except he still acts like a bad person most of the time.
What a headache.
“Feeling better, Momota-kun?” Shirokuma chirps up at him in that big sweet voice that Kaito can’t say no to, even when he probably should.
“Never better!”
A thumps-up. A wide grin. Doing his damnedest to pretend like his lungs don’t want to collapse in on themselves.
--
“Starboy-chan is such a fucking idiot.”
Ouma slams his chest of fragments shut. He still hasn’t figured out what the damn things do, but Shirokuma insists on collecting them so they must be important in some sense. Sure, Shirokuma says that it’s something to do with negative energy and restoring balance, blah, blah, blah—but Shirokuma is a piece of shit liar. And Ouma hates liars.
But he thinks he hates Starboy the most. Or, at least, he finds Starboy to be the most frustrating dumbass in the galaxy.
Because it’s obvious, isn’t it? It’s obvious that Shirokuma is shady as all get out. It’s obvious that there is something deeply wrong with the magical boy system. There have been so many disappearances and it’s suspicious as all get out how Starboy in particular is being worked to the bone and pushed to the brink.
There’s something seriously wrong with all of it.
Ouma just needs to figure out what before everything goes wrong.
--
To become a magical boy, one needs resolve. To encourage magical boys, a wish is often granted to sweeten—and seal the deal. Ouma’s was a cowardly, stupid wish that he’s still kicking himself for to this day, although in hindsight he should be glad it was so simple. The worthless wish to live as everyone else was dead around him.
He’s still haunted by their faces. He should’ve wished for them but couldn’t. He was targeted and tricked, and now he’s stuck. But the least he can do is make everything difficult for those monsters along the way.
Starboy—aka Momota Kaito...well. Ouma doesn’t know what his wish was, but he suspects it’s as stupidly noble and short-sighted as he’s come to expect.
Oh, yes, he knows that Starboy is Momota Kaito. Who wouldn’t know that? They look the same—although Ouma suspects that magic is at play since no civilians have made the connection. Not even Saihara Shuuichi, a would-be detective.
It’s clear, however, that Saihara-chan has noticed the effects.
“This is the fourth time you’ve had to clear your throat, Momota-kun.”
Momota clears his throat again. He musters up a laugh.
“It’s just been dry. No big deal. You worry too much.”
“Gooooooodness, Momota-kun!” Ouma crowed, skipping in. “Are you dying?! Please, please don’t die! I haven’t even gotten to tell you how much I love you!”
Momota recoils when Ouma jumps on him. Saihara shrieks in surprise but Momota only growls as he tries to shake the brat off.
“Let—GO!”
Ouma does, but not without jabbing the back of Momota’s knee and causing him to topple over. Saihara rushes to steady him, shooting Ouma quite the ugly look. Ouma shrugs that off.
“Whatever it is you’re doing is killing you,” he merely states. “So, you should stop lest you traumatize my poor Saihara-chan.”
“I...” Saihara swallowed, looking like he’d hate to agree but when it came to Momota... “You shouldn’t overwork yourself, Momota-kun.”
“I’m fine,” Momota slurred. “Totally fine. I’m a goddamn Luminary, Shuuichi...” He says he’s fine while learning into Saihara. It’s a bright sunny day. People are no doubt stealing glances, and Momota no doubt has to hide his exhausted face in his sidekick’s shoulder. It’s a good thing Harukawa isn’t here.
Ouma scoffed. Saihara shot him another glare.
“If you’re just here to mess with Momota-kun, you can leave.”
Saihara’s hands tighten on Momota. Goodness, it really is like Ouma is the supervillain tormenting the tired hero.
How boring.
Ouma turns heel, smiling as he waves them off.
I shouldn’t bother. I shouldn’t have to bother.
--
No matter how many times he’s thought that, he ends up in this situation. With Starboy exhausted on the ground and a fragment pinched so firmly between his fingers that it’s this close to embedding itself in the skin. Shirokuma floats around Starboy.
“He’s getting close,” Shirokuma is saying. “He won’t be able to take much more. How despairing. So despairing.”
OuDice swats the thing to the ground. It giggles up at him.
“You can’t save him, you weren’t able to save your other friends. Just give up, Dice-kun. Give into despair.”
It’s laughing, its laughter resounding even as Dice stomps the thing to bits. It’ll just reshape itself and find Momota again. No matter what he does, he can’t get rid of it. It’s part of a damn hivemind after all.
Sighing, Dice goes to Starboy once again, and Starboy is lying there almost prone. Looking painfully pale. His breathing is shallow. At least he’s still alive.
But for how much longer? And what am I even doing wasting my time with this idiot? No matter what I tell him or how bad he gets, he refuses to back down and Shirokuma just eggs him on.
He gets down, rolling Starboy onto his back. Starboy groans and for a moment, he blearily comes to.
“Di...ce... You...again...” There’s a couple of missing words. It’s clearly difficult for Starboy to speak. He groans, eyes screwing shut. When Dice helps him sit up, he coughs and there’s a thin stream of blood that trickles down his chin. “U-Urgh...hurts bad.”
“Well, yeah. You don’t take breaks, idiot.” Ouma tutted him. “Some of the monsters you take are mooks. You shouldn’t waste your time.”
“S-Shuuut,” Starboy slurs. He coughs again. “I’m...s’posed to be...a hero. A-A... Luminary.”
It’s because of shit like this that made it was so easy for Ouma to find Momota in the first place.
And Starboy—fucking laughs.
“Even through that stupid mask of yours, I can tell you’re disproving.” He musters up a bit more strength to speak, for all the good that’s doing him. “You’re really worried, huh?”
“I don’t trust Shirokuma,” Dice said simply. “You shouldn’t either.”
Starboy swallows. No doubt swallows back blood. He sucks in his breath. He shakes. He tries to shake his head specifically. Ends up slumping against him. Dice isn’t as gentle with him as Saihara was, but Dice still has little choice but to help him up.
“Stay with me,” Dice ordered. “You’re not allowed to die.”
He’s wasting his breath. Starboy’s definitely going to die at this rate even if it’s not today. All because—
“I’m a hero,” Starboy is slurring. “Heroes don’t—take breaks...they don’t leave people to die.”
“You’re not a hero,” Dice snapped. One step at a time. “You’re just an idiot.”
“It’s not...not about trust...” Starboy huffs at him next. “Not that...you’d understand that... Ouma.”
Dice doesn’t pause. Far from it.
...idiot.
Ouma Kokichi wonders if it’s a coincidence that he and Momota ended up in this situation together.
...
That’s right. Momota Kaito is going to bring you down. The hero! The Luminary! Won’t that be the Ultimate Despair?
(That’s how she would respond.)
Ouma Kokichi, always so close and yet so far, can’t focus on that right now. He has to save the life of a dying man after all. The results are sure to be favorable.
And yet, also so very—predictable.
Boring.
AO3 Link
Kokichi lazily spins a french fry through his ketchup as Momota takes a seat across from him. The movement makes the table jostle. Kokichi doesn’t move.
“Getting used to it, huh?” Momota asks. “I guess this is just life now. Beats being dead, at least.”
“You failed, then?”
“I think every smoke alarm is busted.”
At 6:15 pm, the cafeteria will explode. A stray spark will hit an errant gas line and the entire place will go up in flames. There will be no survivors.
Kokichi knows this because he has experienced it eleven times already.
The first time was unexpected. Obviously. When he woke up this morning (eleven mornings ago) in his dorm room he assumed today (eleven todays ago) would be normal.
That assumption was disproven before he died and the day reset, but that’s unrelated.
The first time he died, the last supposedly normal minutes of his life, he and Momota were at this very same table. They weren’t alone then. Their friends had been with them, and Akamatsu had been in the middle of telling a story about a bird flying into the room during one of her classes, and suddenly there had been the loudest sound Kokichi had ever heard. He’d felt an intense, searing heat for just a moment, and then something large and heavy falling on top of him, and then he didn’t feel anything because he was dead.
When he woke up in his bed again he’d assumed it was a dream. Even when the morning played out much like the morning in his “dream” - well, that wasn’t too strange. Saihara had lost his favourite socks, but he did that often. Yumeno fell asleep in the cafeteria during breakfast, but she did that every day. Amami tripped down the stairs and had to go to the nurse, but he never paid attention to his surroundings.
And then, right at the end of breakfast, Momota got down on one knee, presented Kokichi with a ring pop, and asked him to go on a date with him after dinner.
The beginning of the day had been typical. It wasn’t strange for his dream to match with reality, because his life was predictable.
That was not something he could have predicted, unless he had suddenly developed a new superpower.
The first time, he’d beamed at Momota, took the ring pop, and said he would be delighted to and that if this was a prank he’d have Momota killed.
The second time, he’d just said “What the fuck,” and then took off running.
The rest of the day went differently, but it was just close enough to make it clear. Kokichi had snuck around unused halls, spying on the classes he was skipping. Chabashira still had a five minute argument with the teacher during math, Hoshi still spilled a beaker in science. This time he got to watch Akamatsu’s unfinished bird story play out.
Just like before, he went to the cafeteria, and just like before he felt his bones flattened and then nothing at all.
In the present, whatever that really means, he tells Momota, “I hope I don’t get crushed again.”
Momota frowns. “At least it’s quick. The fire was the worst.”
“Well, I at least want some variety. It is the spice of life and all.”
Leaning forward, Momota rests his chin on his hand. His eyes keep darting to the clock on the wall. “I’ll toss you into the fire this time, if you want.”
“My hero.” Kokichi folds his arms behind his head and leans back.
They’d really tried, this time. They’d tried every time. This time, Kokichi had barely broken into the kitchen when he was caught. At least it was one of the kinder chefs. They’d given him french fries and instructed him to stay in the cafeteria where they could see him.
“We still have some time,” Momota argues. “I mean, 6:15 is in like, an hour. We can at least prepare for next time.”
“Hm, would you like to scope out some more interesting places to die? I’m getting bored of the cafeteria. At least maybe something different will crush me.” He’s fairly certain it’s a table that keeps killing him, at least in the last few loops. For a second he’d felt the texture of the wood crushed against his face.
“We’re gonna figure it out,” Momota says. His voice is full of empty confidence, a thin soap bubble that will pop if looked at for too long.
“Well, of course. You still owe me that date, after all.”
Perhaps it’s his imagination, but the glint in Momota’s eyes gets sharper. “I do. I’m a man of my word, you know.”
“You’ve given me your word more than a few times. I think you might owe me a few dates, my dearest Momota-chan.”
Momota’s eyes dart to the clock again, and Kokichi follows his gaze. 5:25.
“I’ll take you on as many dates as you want, Ouma.”
Momota had asked him out again in the third loop, and the fourth. Kokichi had accepted those, though in the fourth one Momota hadn’t bothered to drop to one knee and hadn’t even offered him a ring pop. He’d just turned to Kokichi and asked, “Will you go out with me?”
“I want a ring first,” Kokichi had said in response.
“A ring,” Momota repeated. “What kind?”
“Grape.”
Momota had presented the ring pop, and Kokichi said yes.
In the fifth loop, Momota got down on one knee again.
“Ouma,” he started.
“Will you go on a date with me?” Kokichi asked. Momota reeled back, looking around the room in surprise.
“Uh….yeah.” He stood up, blinking heavily. “How -”
“I have my ways,” Kokichi said with a wink.
He’d skipped his next classes. That had been the first time he broke into the kitchen. He did a decent job sneaking, and his little recon mission was how he figured out the likely cause. He’d only gotten a brief glimpse before the chef kicked him out.
Momota was waiting for him at that same table. “Ouma,” he’d called out, waving him over, and Kokichi obliged him by taking a seat in the same chair he’d died in four times. “Are you hiding something?”
“Always. Are you?”
“You knew what I was doing this morning.”
“I’ve known you were in love with me for months.” Kokichi leaned back in his chair, twirling a strand of hair around his finger. “Obviously I knew what you were doing.”
“But you didn’t! The first - Uh, I mean...Oh, fuck it. You know what’s happening, right?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” He kicked his chair back, balancing it on two legs. He was not going to be the one to say it first, and it was so fun to get him worked up like this. “I mean, I know everything, but -”
“The loops! You’re the only one acting different! The first loop, you were surprised, the second loop you were - and now you’re stealing my lines!” Momota leaned towards him, hands on the table.
Kokichi raised a single eyebrow. “Your first performance was your best, Momota-chan.”
“So you are aware. How?”
The chair’s legs thudded against the ground. “I could ask you the same thing.”
“I…” Momota hesitates, bluster wavering before it comes back full force. “Obviously, the universe knew I was the best person to task with fixing this. I’m gonna save everyone, just you watch.”
“Oh, good. I was worried I’d have to do something.” He stood up abruptly, almost knocking the chair over. “I’ll see you for our date, then.”
A hand grabbed his sleeve, pulling him back down. Momota was reaching across the entire table, gripping Kokichi’s sleeve tightly. His brows were pinched together, face unguarded and open and desperate. There was only a second of hesitation before Kokichi ripped his sleeve away, narrowing his eyes at the man across from him.
“You can’t seriously plan to do nothing,” Momota insisted. “There’s gotta be a reason -”
“Maybe I’m supposed to be working against you,” Kokichi said. His expression fell away to blankness. “You’re so eager to trust, Momota-chan. It’s very stupid of you.”
“That shit stopped working on me last year.” Momota jumped to his feet, hands pressed against the table as he leaned dangerously forward. Kokichi doesn’t need to have time traveled to know he will inevitably topple forward and crash into the table. Perhaps he would be the one to die to it this loop. “Ouma, I know you. Fuck, I asked you out this morning, you really think I’m still gonna fall for your evil bullshit?”
“I mean, it’s worked before. Recently, even.”
“You broke in through my window! Look, you’re missing the point. I know you wanna save everyone as much as I do.” His eyes were alight, grin too sharp for Kokichi’s liking.
“It’s in the kitchen.”
Momota leaned forward again, and there it was - he fell face first onto the table.
“Idiot. Maybe the universe did choose me to help you. You’re clearly too stupid to figure it out on your own.”
Momota didn’t waste a second. He pushed himself back up as Kokichi spoke, completely ignoring his words. “See! We’re a perfect team, Ouma. What’s in the kitchen?”
A mess was in the kitchen. Every surface had at least five distinct fire hazards, and all together it combined into something unfathomably dangerous. A stray spark ignited a chain, and at the end of that chain was a crater.
Since that loop, they’d tried different ways to fix the kitchen. They’d tried scoping out times where no one was there (there weren’t any), they’d tried convincing the chefs something needed to be fixed (they’d been kicked out), they’d tried fixing it themselves (the explosion happened three hours earlier that loop), they’d tried setting off every smoke detector they could find (none of them worked).
It’s starting to look a little hopeless.
Students begin filing into the cafeteria, happy and carefree and unconcerned. Akamatsu’s voice carries as she rushes to their table. “Ouma-kun, Momota-kun! I was wondering where you’d gone. The strangest thing happened in math earlier -”
Kokichi lays his head on the table. In his mind, he could only see Akamatsu’s broken body, her flesh beginning to bubble. Her screams were always the loudest.
It‘s always the same. Akamatsu starts her stupid story. Saihara arrives late, feathers in his hair, and Harukawa trails after him and glares at Kokichi.
She usually survives the longest, from what Kokichi can see. She stays standing until the end. Saihara crumbles quick and quiet.
“Are you alright?” Saihara asks as he takes a seat next to Kokichi.
Kokichi looks up at him. He’s too tired for expressions. “You’re going to die in twelve minutes.”
“Right,” Saihara says, and then he turns to Akamatsu and asks if she can help him get the feathers out of his hair.
They smile, and laugh, and talk, and at 6:15 exactly, that spark is set off.
Kokchi lives a moment longer than the last few loops, long enough to see Momota crushed by a falling piece of ceiling.
“Liar,” Kokichi says to him, and then he too is gone.
---
He wakes up in bed.
The Ouma Kokichis
General Tags: #ultimate supreme leader #lil ultimate supremacy (regressors)
Cookie*
14 • DOA Ask Box: OPEN
Cookie is a relatively canon-compliant post-death Ouma from a universe where the killing game was not a simulation and this is his afterlife. He is the head of a new faction of DICE he founded here after his death. He suffers from a lot of chronic pain, fatigue, breathing and eating issues, and is relatively bedridden due to his death. His lies often follow various "shticks" that call back to the lying habits of the members of his old DICE. At it's core though, he bases his lies on the "Boy Who Cried Wolf" method, where he leans so heavily into the fact he is a liar, that he makes even his truths sound like lies to hide them in plain sight. He is a regressor whose regression is primarily triggered by stress and traumatic triggers. His age ranges from 3-6 years old and his favorite things are milk, Mimi, and DICE in that order. (But that's a lie.)
Notable canon divergences: He struggled with his regression heavily throughout the killing game, acting overly childish on purpose to hide it as being deliberately annoying. DICE existed pregame, and one of his subordinates died in season 52. His joining season 53 was a deliberate choice to avenge her and bring Team Dangan down. His plan to trick Monokuma in Chapter 5 actually worked, resulting in Momota avoiding execution and the class being released early without the need for a sixth trial or Saihara ever seeing his room or Amami's lab.
Kichi*
14 • Pre-death Ask Box: OPEN
Kichi is possibly(?) from a time loop AU with a current tally of 162 and a heavily canon-divergent pregame. He came from seconds before the press touched him, and has been struggling with the dilemma of going back to finish the job for years. He's not entirely sure whether this time he'll actually die or if the whole loop will start over again, and it's unclear whether he actually remembers the loops or if he just made up the entire time loop story as a lie to begin with. He claims he only knows what number they're on because of tallies he finds carved into the underside of his bed frame. He is a member of Cookie's DICE, and often steps in as "Substitute Ultimate Supreme Leader" when Cookie needs a break. His lies often come in the form of games of pretend and entertaining alternate realities to escape his trauma. The killing game seems to have tainted his view of lies to the point of an identity crisis as he struggles with delusions and compulsively telling the truth. He is a regressor whose regression is primarily triggered by stress and trauma, but he rarely allows himself the time to properly regress as he takes on a lot of responsibility helping other Kokichis as the muse who's been here the longest. His age ranges from 3-6 years old and his favorite things are Taro-kun, his twin brother, and his adoptive dads. He hates hospitals, but that's a lie.
Notable canon divergences: Time loop. DICE did not exist pregame. He was a charge at some sort of hospital-like facility before being put on Danganronpa.
Loopy
14 • Midgame Ask Box: OPEN
Loopy is also from a time loop AU with a current tally of 82. He came from the beginning of his current loop, right after Amami told him about the time loop's existence. He doesn't remember anything from past loops, but has residual anxieties and triggers from past deaths that he has no context to beyond what Amami, the prime looper, has told him. He's a lot softer than most other Oumas, likely due to the fact he doesn't remember much about the traumas he's faced in the killing game. Because of that, his approach to problems is a lot kinder and more optimistic.
Notable canon divergences: Time loop. Also, he was Mikan's baby brother, and was raised by her and the other Remnants during the Tragedy before being rescued by the FF and put in foster care, changing his last name to Ouma. He has mixed feelings about this.
Associated Works: #to be raised by despair, #deja vu
Joker
14 • Midgame Ask Box: OPEN
Joker is another time looper, but this time with a whopping 467 loops under his belt. After being trapped for so long, he's become quite jaded and doesn't seem to care about much besides his Amami. Both he and his Amami are prime loopers and remember everything, but he kept this a secret from his Amami until he was outed here. That's a lie, he's not a prime looper at all! He gets caught up in overthinking things, with spiraling thoughts often left unchecked. His compulsive lying has become so pervasive to survive in the killing game that telling the truth too much makes him physically ill.
Notable canon divergences: Time loop. The Tragedy really happened, and THH and SDR2 were real, and Hope's Peak has been reestablished by Naegi. The show was made post-reconstruction, and the killing games there are simulations. DICE existed pregame, and one of his subordinates joined in season 52 because the group was short on cash. His joining season 53 was a deliberate choice to avenge her mistreatment and bring Team Dangan down while also exhibiting his Talent in hopes of getting scouted by the real Hope's Peak.
Koko
14 • Pre-death Ask Box: OPEN
Koko is another relatively canon-compliant Ouma, like Cookie, but taken seconds before death. He was close enough, however, that he's suffering from the lingering effects of the poison and as such is bed-bound and struggles to breathe a lot of the time. He's contemplating the merits of going back to just get it over with. He is a regressor, but unlike the other regressors so far, he is permaregressed (which means he is regressed all the time), due to the traumatic nature of his plan in Chapter 5 triggering his regression before he got here. His age ranges around 3 or 4 years old and he is extremely clingy with his Momota.
Tag: #kokomelon
Bindle
14 • Midgame Ask Box: OPEN
Bindle is an early-game Kokichi who stumbled across his Amami moments after Shirogane struck him with the shotput ball and watched him die in his arms. He didn't see Shirogane himself, but found out it was her after he was pulled here along with Amami. He plans to go back to end the killing game with this knowledge and commit suicide in the process so that he can stay here with his Amami. He is a regressor, and seems to be permaregressed like Koko after the traumatic event of watching Amami, who he was very close with, die. His age ranges around 6 or 7, sometimes as high as 9.
Notable canon divergences: DICE did not exist pregame, but he seems to claim they are around anyway, possibly as alters or something similar. It's also come to light that his pregame may have been similar to Kichi's with him in some kind of institution before being put on Danganronpa.
Tag: #bindle
Petty
14 • Midgame Ask Box: OPEN
Petty is from yet another time loop AU, with a tally of 97 loops. Like Joker, he and his Amami both are prime loopers and remember every loop. He had originally been keeping this a secret from Amami, but was found out in his current loop after a situation where Amami befriended and told Maki about the loops, only for him to die and the run to keep going while Petty was still alive, proving that there were in fact two prime loopers. He gets bored extremely easily and is a lot more brazen with the crocodile tears. He often makes morbid jokes about having cannibalized his Amami (a lie).
Notable canon divergences: Time loop.
Tag: #petty theft
Cusp
14 • DOA Ask Box: OPEN
Cusp is a relatively canon-compliant Ouma like Cookie, however he had a major relationship with Amami before the killing game, proven by the fact they seem to have swapped right canines at some point in the past. Due to the memory wipe, neither of them remember this, but desperately want to. He is from an AU of a fic my partner wrote but hasn't posted yet. As a DOA, he suffers much the same symptoms as Cookie, with chronic pain, fatigue, and organ difficulties, but much more severe as his arrival is more recent. He is a regressor whose regression is triggered primarily by stress, and thus had been regressed for a while since his arrival. Nowadays he's been fighting it in favor of being there for his Amami. His age ranges around 4 or 5 and he's very sleepy and whiny.
Notable canon divergences: DICE existed pregame, and he and Amami knew each other and were close enough to make a pact by switching teeth when they were younger.
Tag: #cusp
Ender
14 • Pre-death Ask Box: CLOSED
Ender is a heavily canon-divergent Ouma on the verge of death in Chapter 1 after being struck with the shot put ball in the library by his Amami, who was coerced into being the mastermind in their universe. He's not quite dead yet, but he and his Amami are staying here for the time being to get their bearings and figure out next steps. Like Koko, he's close enough to death that he's suffering from the residual traumatic brain injury, resulting in chronic fatigue and head fog on the rare occasions that he's conscious, as well as seizures.
Notable canon divergences: Amami is the mastermind in his universe, possibly coerced into the position by Team Danganronpa after surviving season 52. Ender was getting a bit too inconvenient for the writing team, and demanded Amami lure him to the library and make him the first death to get him out of the way.
Tag: #enderkichi
Gemini
14 • DOA Ask Box: OPEN
Gemini is a relatively canon-compliant Ouma who became very close to his Momota over the course of their time spent in the exisal hangar during Chapter 5. He promised Momota that by the time they met again in Hell, he'd have already taken over. Unfortunately, like Cookie and Cusp, he suffers the same post-death trauma, and wasn't able to do much to act on that promise before his Momota got here. He is a regressor who seems to regress to squarely 3 years old, though he tends to shy away from openly regressing. To keep himself from slipping, he tends to distract himself with excessive sexual promiscuity and other Grown Up things.
Notable canon divergences: It was discovered that his DICE actually consisted of the entire V3 class, with his Momota as the second in command. They were a secret organization working to compete against the Future Foundation's wrongful monopoly on Tragedy reconstruction. They were eventually discovered by Future Foundation and captured, their memories tampered with, and placed in the killing game. Gemini was the only one who knew their true history, but could not disclose it due to an enforced compulsion to lie. It is unclear if in his universe, Team Danganronpa was a part of the Future Foundation or another entity that they were cooperating with.
Moonpie
14 • Midgame Ask Box: OPEN
Moonpie is a relatively canon-compliant Ouma who was pulled from the middle of Chapter 5 while he was hiding out in the hangar in an attempt to warn him of Maki's plan and save him from himself. He does not seem interested in rescue and has since been adamant about wanting to return to his world, but has been refused on account he cannot be trusted not to allow himself to get hurt. He is very prickly, as he is at the height of his paranoia in the killing game. He has mentioned his DICE before, referring to them using chess-related code names, however it is possible that he is from a Real Fiction universe. This is yet to be confirmed. Little else is known about him on account he doesn't talk much unprompted.
Tag: #moonpie
Notable canon divergences: None confirmed. It is suspected that he may be from a Real Fiction universe, implying DICE and his Talent are not real.
He couldn’t say he could even disagree with him in some aspects. Nightmarish as this whole situation was, he… he just wanted everyone to be better, to move on from this in a way where they could be really better. After all, who else could understand them better than each other? Maybe Amami would have some advice, though it wouldn’t surprise him if he was the most busy out of all of them. Even if he wasn’t, Saihara would be willing to bet everything that he had that Ouma wouldn’t listen to him anyway, not that he could even blame him.
If he were a different, more vindictive person, he might point out what Ouma did to Iruma in response to the murderer part, but he holds himself back. There was still some resentment for what happened to Gokuhara and Iruma, but in the end, it wasn’t as though anything could be done. He wondered if either of them were just happy about being alive or like Ouma, lamenting over all the pain they went through being all for nothing and living after going through so much to end everything. Really, Ouma’s plan seemed perfect, perfect to end the entire show, but the detective was the protagonist. There was no way that Tsumugi would just let Ouma win and ruin the show in such a way. A shame, really, but Saihara couldn’t do anything in the moment, only do what he could to survive what he thought was a real game of life and death.
“I…” He takes a deep breath. “I’m not forcing you to stay here and talk to me, though… I-I wouldn’t say that we’re done quite yet either. The more you’re saying, the more I’m worried about you, Ouma-kun. I-I can only imagine how much you suffered, both in the game and with the realization that what you went through was ultimately for nothing, and I…” He pauses for a moment before finally just saying it. “I’m sorry… for everything.”
Saihara’s fault or not, he felt that he owed Kokichi that much at the very least. If he was just better at what he was supposed to do, if he had just seen through all the tricks, if he had just done more at the very beginning then maybe, maybe none of this had to happen, maybe they could have stopped everything before more of them had to suffer. Irrational as it was, there was always going to be some doubt now that he found out the truth of the first case and the game itself. Even if it didn’t matter in the end, it had taken someone he had grown to care about so fast and so soon from him along with made them all go through hell only to find themself in a new one.
“I know it doesn’t fix anything, but… I-I really do hope that you can forgive me… for the things that I’ve said to you and not finding a way to stop it sooner.”
“Tell me about it.” Huffing, he mutters under his breath. Awkward wasn't going to put it. Ouma isn't even sure what the others think of him ( he'd like to assmue the two that nag him are pitying him if anything else to avoid the topic ) and, at this point, he doesn't even want to know. The same as it was in the game, if he had to assume.
“Besides, I think any normal person would hate murderers—” Letting out a loud laugh again, the shrill noise echos across the hall, masking how the grip on his cane tenses until his knuckles were sheer white. He still remembers—not that he could ever forget what happened in the virtual world—watching his own ‘motive video’, a personalized flashback light robbing him of the ability to kill just like that. Was that even real? What other traits of his were edited during the course of the game, anyways? “—but I guess none of us here are normal! 'cept for me, because I don't go out of my way to talk to people who have blood on their hands.” Hypocritical, he knows.
Ouma doesn't even bother answering Saihara's next question outside of an annoyed ’I-know-you-know-already-and-I-don't-want-to-talk about-it’ stare. It was painfully obvious to everyone that he intentionally avoids everyone else and refuses to go out of his way to meet other people ( even if he tries, he ends up awkwardly standing in front of their door in the dead of night before leaving in a hurry, because the rational part of his mind always wins out over stupid emotions ) that the people, all two of them, come to him instead. He's not even sure why Saihara's so caught up on that as if they could all be—blegh—friends. Or that the interviews would bother him. He has zero intention of staying when it's all over and playing pretend was like second nature to him.
Face falling blank, for once in this conversation he has to partially agree. Maybe, for everyone else, it was better this way. But to him, his ideal is that he's dead, final moments the metal jaw of the hydraulic press looming avoid him and the cold, vast galaxy on his back until it goes down, down, down… going out with a bang! Or maybe a pop! Or a disgusting crunch and squelch as blood spews out of the machine! ( He knows it's the last option, if Momota's anything to go by. ) Ouma can't help but laugh―all he could do was laugh―at the thought that he doesn't even notice the tremble of his fingertips and that he's one second away from keeling over.
“Hmm... Well! I'm glad you think so!” Voice hardly betrays him as he keeps his composure and sneers, even as his head swims and chest constricts. “Isn't it splended? I think so too! What a coinkydink!” Every word drips with mockery. “I'm toootally happy that I'm still alive and breathing and stuck in this hellhole. Is that what you wanted to hear? Are we done here?”
(🥀)
While kokichi's ears were ringing loudly in his head, he could hear kirumi and shuichi speaking with one another. He felt himself get handed into a pair of much more delicate arms, who helped him stand upright.
"Ouma-kun?" Kirumi asked, whereas kokichi was searching wildly in his head for some answer. "H-heeyyy, mom! No worries here i am totally fine, all just a prank!" He laughed, yet couldn't even bring himself to do his 'nishishi'
"Would you like me to bring you to your dorm?" Kirumi asked again, ignoring the lie. To which, kokichi just nodded, giving up all attempts of acting because god, did his head hurt bad. It felt like every bone and limb on his body was too heavy and he ran twenty thousand miles while carrying a bag of stones.
He was laid down in his bed with the covers drenched over him, his eyes barely managing to stay awake as he sinked into the mattress. Kirumi cleaned a few things from the room before sitting down by the bed.
"Ouma-kun, are you sick? How do you feel?"
"Great," he said sarcastically.
Kirumi removed one of her gloves and pressed her hand against his forehead. "No temperature.." she muttered. Yet kokichi's breathing would stop and start like an irregular clockwork, his heartbeat not making sense to him and panicking his body.
She then took his hand, checking one than the other, before asking, "do you feel dizzy or lightheaded?"
"Like a hellish mix of both..." ouma mumbled under his breath, but still let kirumi hear.
"I'll be back soon with the medication," she put the glove back on and stood up. "Please excuse me." She bowed and left the room, not long coming back. "Try and sit up for me,"
Ouma wearily sat up, holding his pounding head, hating how his breathing felt jagged.
Due to the current condition, kokichi took the medication and water given by kirumi, finishing the glass before laying back down. "Try and get some rest, Ouma-kun. You're not in the best shape to move."
'Well no kidding' he thought, as he remembered a few breathing exercises and dazed himself to sleep.
《《》》《《》》《《》》《《》》
"goodmorning, Ouma-kun," saihara's soft voice entered the room, causing ouma to blink his eyes open. His eyes loomed over to where shuichi was, who of which was sat down by the bed in a chair.
All kokichi could muster out was a dragged "uh-huh" from where he laying, his covers all fumbled and messy, much like his bedhair. Shuichi laughed sympathetically.
"How'd you sleep?"
"Amazing, definitely didn't wake up like.. every second and then take like an hour and half getting back to sleep." He grumbled. He hated being in this state. He hated being vulnerable. Hell, why was he like this?
"Toujo-san told me you have something called anemia? You have very low blood cells in your body.." he said, to which kokichi gave a confused look.
"You aren't healthy and your blood is pretty much.. not.. duplicating as much. It will go away though, hopefully."
Kokichi would make some dramatic scene or wail that he doesn't want to wait or make some flirt, but no words escaped his throat. He just turned back over.
"Haha, I'd be a bit irritated too if I felt that awful too." Shuichi laughed, which made kokichi's stomach flutter, but he fought back the feeling of listening to shuichi's painfully smooth voice.
"I'll leave now, toujo-san is making a specific meal for you so I'll bring that other to you later, okay?" Shuichi stood up as kokichi gave a tired nod.
Shuichi couldn't quite help ruffling the smaller one's hair, it was all too messy and cute to actually resist. He gave a reassuring smile as if to say 'you'll be okay, dont worry,' before leaving and shutting the door.
Kokichi turned over in his bed, and drifted off into another sleepless nap.
