kotoko's manipulation of es
bringing this into the maintags..i wouldnt call this analysis but ive been spiraling about this for too long. for the record kotoko is my favorite. i love her.
t1- john doe/task
Tumblr media
you could call this the Save The Cat trope. kotoko is both setting herself up and the narrative is setting her up to be admired for saving es's life(and later her saving lucky in harrow). we have to remember that kotoko snuck in for the express purpose of saving es, because she thought mikoto was suspicious. and she WAS right, but notably she let john attack es... for a while. then she stepped in to save them. and immediately brags about it. she will then continue to bring this up as a benefit to being es's fangs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
theres also the end scene which i still have a hard time parsing BUT it is a sort of breakdown she makes es have and then laughs about it
Tumblr media
t2- yonah
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the hug, we all know the hug. kotoko insults es, calling them useless and weak (Much to think about.) and then when they break down, acting more like a scared child is when she switches to comforting them gently and telling them "its okay!" and Very Importantly she hugs them when they tell her to let them go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
t3- speculation
based on her t3 quotes, and jackalopes own words, we can believe that kotoko now feels betrayed and thinks of es as her enemy...... Maybe. she's also clearly trying to do the exact same things she's Been doing this whole time.
kotokos way of manipulation seems to be to hurt es in some way and then come in to present herself as a hero, a knight in shining armor gallantly saving them-- which worked once and almost worked on es again.
kotoko says that she wanted to punish the prisoners with her own hands. this is obvious about her she is the long awaited hero shes different than the other prisoners shes the wardens fangs. shes strong and is the only one who can save the world or something.
(translations from milgram-en)
Tumblr media
But Then. She Says Something.
Tumblr media
This. This is what shes been doing this whole time. she hurts es- she lets them get beat up, she makes them cry, she is the main reason two people died. then she tries to save them. affirm me and i will return your anger and pain To Whoever Did This To You. not her!
we dont know if she will say these exact lines in her voice drama, but i think i know what she's going to try to do.

Why is Joey a code 0010 is it due to his powers
Tumblr media
Kinda answered here already!
But short answer is: yes.
Anyone inside KND organization who has powers that could be dangerous if someone evil got their hands on them/if they are not contained is labelled with CODE: 0010!
Nigel is CODE: 0010 too! But he's 0010 RED, meaning he can NOT use his abilities unless Moonbase says otherwise. If he does, he will go to jail like any other villain.
Joey is 0010 Max Priority, so his safety comes before anyone else's if he's in danger.
Lou is actually 0010 too. For a while, he was RED as well, but when he became the Toiletnator it was ditched and he was just a general 0010.
Wallabee is CODE 0010 RED MAX PRIORITY in the Adult AU.

“Pssssst. Elisheva-bo-bisheva~! Elly-belly~! Shev-ster~!”
The loud, familiar voice sung in her head.
“It seems your diner has a special guest~!”
She chuckled, then groaned in annoyance.
“AHAHA- eugh. Just… make her feel ‘welcome’. Whether you tell her more information about the place or not is up to you, but just know I’ll be watching and listening, as always. And don’t you worry, I’ll let you know if you do something wrong~! Ehehe.”
She giggled as her voice faded out.
" AHaaah... Alright, thanks... " She sounded insane. She really, truly did. Who wouldn't be in her situation?

Since the “fuji” 「藤」 in Nozomi Kirifuji 「霧藤希」 is for wisteria, I thought I’d look to see if wisteria had any special meaning in Japanese culture.
Beyond being a common kanji used in names, I found that wisteria has long held significance as a symbol of luck, longevity, kindness, and loyalty.
There were a few very interesting myths I found, but decent sources were scarce in both English and Japanese. The best I could find was a brief mention in a paper by two Asian studies professors about the potential for anime as a teaching tool. The claims weren’t supported by native materials, nor could I find any of my own, so I'm uncertain of their cultural prevalence:
Since ancient times in Japan, it has been customary to plant wisteria with pine trees, in which case the wisteria is compared to women and the pine to men. [...] It is said that a wisteria wrapping around a pine tree is associated with a terrifying obsession, and once caught, one will never be released. For this reason, wisteria has been known as kesshite hanarenai ("never leave")
The association with men and women makes me curious about any implications regarding Takumi, Nozomi, and Karua. Particularly in the sense that Karua has been set up as "generic heroine/love interest" to a degree that I'm inclined to call parody. It reminds me a lot of Akane in the early parts of 999. I wonder if the relationship between Takumi and Nozomi will have the opportunity to develop into a dark distortion of the Takumi/Karua relationship?
This also stood out to me:
It is unlucky to send wisteria to a sick person because [a] double-entendre with fuji is “incurable disease” (fuji no yamai).
What I'm saying is that I want Nozomi to kill Eito just by standing next to him. I'm really curious to see how they'll interact. I think Nozomi's dedication toward the SDU's mission could serve as an interesting contrast to Eito's skepticism in the demo. I'd love to see them "compete" for the spot of deuteragonist—the role one would initially expect to have been Karua's.
