I've done it again. My favourite thing to do with music is put off bands because I have assumed they are going to sound like XYZ based on literally nothing, only to listen to them and be 100% wrong about what they sound like.

I (incorrectly) assumed Glass Beach was gonna some kind of pop-punk sounding band. They're not. I don't know why I thought that.

Six months. Six months of stolen moments and careful glances. Six months of learning the language of Sal's body, the map of his scars, the rhythm of his breath. Six months of lying in his bunk at night, replaying conversations and touches like treasured films, while keeping his face carefully neutral during daylight hours.

Eddie's watch glowed faintly in the darkness: 0147 hours. Sal would be waiting by now, perhaps growing impatient or worried. Eddie eased himself out of the bunk, wincing as the metal frame creaked beneath his shifting weight. He froze, listening intently as Jackson, the snorer above him, mumbled something unintelligible before settling back into his rhythmic breathing.

With practiced stealth, Eddie navigated between the rows of bunks, his unlaced boots held in one hand to minimize noise. Six months of these midnight excursions had honed his nighttime navigation skills to near perfection.

The night air hung heavy with the scent of sagebrush and cooling sand as Eddie crept silently across the darkened base. Moonlight glinted off the dunes, highlighting the ripples in the sand as he snuck between the rows of silent vehicles. His heart pounded in his chest, each beat a thunderous reminder of the risk he was taking. The thought of Sal waiting for him spurred him onward.

At last, Eddie reached the looming silhouette of the combat training center. Its corrugated metal walls rose like a fortress in the gloom. He paused, scanning for any sign of movement, before slipping around to the rear entrance. There, bathed in a pool of amber light from a flickering lamp, stood Sal.

The Master Sergeant’s face broke into a soft smile as Eddie approached. They embraced wordlessly, the warmth of their bodies a stark contrast to the cool night air. Sal's familiar scent—leather and whiskey—filled Eddie's senses.
