In Q1 2024, Meta reported that 827 million accounts are fake or bots, representing 4-5% of its active users. 

Bots Create large amounts of Instagram accounts in seconds As many as 95 million Instagram accounts were created by bots, according to a recent report. Fake accounts can easily be spun up at scale with software and taught to engage in other posts.

Scroll down the next link and very suspicious (ie bot/fake account activity becomes obvious) activity occurs. This is from 2021-2022. There are spikes of 30k+ to 300k+ in a month, or gains of 7k and then 8k, then a losses of 6k 7k 8k or 9k etc etc etc. It fluctuates too much. Seems like a monthly count/report. Either bots and fakes targeted him a couple of years after the last episodes of vikings, or someone has been creating bots to boost him up. But that's a lot of surprising fluctuations in ups and downs. There's a reason another link I posted said his true number is 1.9 million (several posts back lol). But bots target all celebs, I'm sure JM gas at least a thousand or more herself. Katy Perry's bot activity said 28% of her followers are/were bots/fakes on one site.

That's another reason I think it's bots.

Biggest loss in a single month over 37,000. So the bot activity has slowed the last couple years, but still going. IG also has a search for potential spam/bots too so accounts can delete them. These low numbers of losses he's experienced makes me thinks he cleans it himself regularly along with Meta. 10% is probably real people but the other 90 most likely imo bots.

I'm taking a break.

To all my beautiful followers both on this blog and my book blog, @beautifulpaxielreads (I'll be reblogging this there too):

Some of you may have noticed that I have been posting much less frequently on Tumblr of late.

Much of my reasoning for this is personal and I'd rather not share it, but the gist of it is: I'm just not having fun anymore, and it's not good for my mental health.

With that in mind, I have made the decision to cut down on my Tumblr usage, starting from tomorrow (Thursday, June 3 Australian time). I should stress that I WILL NOT be deleting my accounts, just I will be less active for a little while - don't ask me when I'll come back at full strength, I'm honestly not sure yet. Feel free to continue reblogging and liking as usual, but don't tag me in your posts and send me messages as I will not respond.

To have to cut down my usage is slightly upsetting to me as I have had some incredible experiences since I first signed up to Tumblr way back in 2012 (!) and discovered the joy that came with being a part of the Hunger Games (and more specifically, Everlark) fandom during the euphoria of the film franchise years, fangirling over the actors, analysing trailers and clips, and later on after the hype train died down, rewatching the movies and rereading the books. I also had some incredible conversations as part of that fandom, which I will treasure always.

For my book bloggers over at @beautifulpaxielreads, I will still be posting my monthly wrap-ups and will probably still occasionally post the odd photograph for prompts, but this will be very infrequent. I haven't been on Book!Tumblr as long as I have been on Hunger Games!Tumblr, but I want you all to know I am truly appreciative of you, and would like to express my continued amazement that so many of you have thought my humble book blog one worth following. Special thanks also to those who I've had chats with online - I enjoyed making those connections. Kinda.

It's partly COVID's fault, and partly because I find it difficult to stay away. I know, I know...🙄

I'm still going to limit my use of Tumblr though - to keep my mental health in check - and to that end, I will only use it in desktop mode and not on mobile, so I won't be checking my dashboard obsessively. Feel free to include me in tags and messages again, just know I may take longer to respond.

I know this might be an unpopular opinion on Aussie Tumblr...

...but as an Australian, I am tired of the sniping and bitching going on between the states. Not only among state premiers, but among the population too. I get we're in a horrible and often frustrating situation and it feels good to vent, but this behaviour helps nobody.

If you must blame anyone for this, blame the Feds - I do. I firmly believe that if it wasn't for their utter incompetence in managing the vaccine rollout, we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.

I'm sorry for the rant, but I am just frustrated beyond belief.

Week 4: Is blogging still relevant in the age of TikToks and Instagram?

In today's world of TikToks and Instagram, is blogging even relevant? Before the deliberation, let's understand the fundamentals.

 Social networking services (SNS)

Xu et al. define SNS as an online service that allows users to create and share personal profiles, explore, interact with, and establish connections through personal networks within the bonded system (2014, p. 240).

 Blogging

Pettigrew, Archer, and Harrigan described blogging as an informative website that displays content in reverse chronological order, with the most recent post at the top (2016, p. 1026).

 Initially architectural for plan posting, photo sharing, and check-in on the Burbn app, then deconstructing to central its commenting, "like," and photo function, based on the computational IOS structure, the renowned Instagram was launched in 2010, receiving 25,000 users on the first day (Gillespie 2010, p. 349; Blystone 2020). Ultimately computational with the Andriod operating system in 2012 and bought over by Facebook (Blystone 2020). Instagram's continuous enhancement with attractive features, enabling users to upload media with filters, viewable posts for 24 hours known as "Instagram Stories," messaging, and more, led to one billion active users monthly in June 2018 (Blystone 2020; Statista Research Department 2021). In addition, after acquiring the competitor Musical.ly and having 200 million accounts ported over, TikToks became today's rising social media platform (D'Souza 2021). Including addictive functions to create 60 seconds videos and combine music, filters, sticker, and more, TikToks withstands approximately 65.9 million active users monthly as of 2020 in the United States (D'Souza 2021; Statista Research Department 2021). Meanwhile, in the United States, Statista Research Department (2021) estimated 31.7 million bloggers in the United States.

Based on the image, it shows the slow growth of blogging (Djuraskovic 2021). Thence, what makes SNS such as Instagram and TikToks popular?

According to Lin and Lu, studies found that people are motivated to adopt SNS because of its pleasure-oriented information system and its capability to connect with peers (2011, p. 1159). Based on the Maslow hierarchy of needs, humans desire belongingness, and SNS has built prompting interaction functions (Ghatak & Singh 2019, p. 298). For instance, on the user-generated content, the other users can react using commenting, instant messaging, reaction "like," sharing, mentioning of others, and more (Voorveld et al. 2018, p. 40). The interaction results in forming virtual communities, whereby social aggregations develop from the Internet when sufficient people participate in public debates for an extended period and enough human emotion to build personal relationships in virtual worlds (Akar & Mardikyan 2018, p. 1).

Thus, when social media is so popular, how is blogging still relevant? Although there are declines in personal "diary" blogging, blogs are read by 77% of internet users. As blogging evolves and sustains more in the knowledge-providing direction, blog posts emerge whenever individuals search for answers (Dietz 2021; Edgecomb 2016). For example, famous blogging service WordPress has dodged the blogging decline as the platform commercial towards professional bloggers instead of novice bloggers (Kopytoff 2011). Moreover, as SNS providers tend to have writing limitations, such as Instagram restricting to 2,200 characters, it is unsuitable to accommodate extended writing on topics than blogs (Zote 2021). Since the blog has comments, it also promotes a public sphere where diverse individuals gather to provide ideas and opinions and public debate on the shared information (Batorski & Hrzywinska 2018, p. 358). Additionally, blogging implies a promotional tool. According to Chang (2021), 81% of United States customers rely on blogs as a means of advice and information, showing blogs' influence on purchasing decisions.

 In conclusion, blogs remain relevant in the age of social media as the platforms serve different purposes and meet the distinctive needs of the users.

Others are ongoing. Some may be, if they haven't yet, potentially, refiled or retried. In some cases, you can do that. It's not double-jeopardy in some cases. It depends but you can sometimes do this depending on the details. A federal case for example could be then tried on the state level. That is not double jeopardy. You can pressure your local counties to call for ballot audits today. Join the revolution.

ILOILO CITY – The public has been encouraged to plant vegetables as one way of ensuring food security and supporting the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat Laban sa Covid-19 (ALPAS) or Plant, Plant, Plant Program.

 “Families are encouraged to plant vegetables using available spaces in their backyard or through improvised containers to address food security during this time of health crisis while most of us are staying in our homes,” DA 6 (Western Visayas) executive director, Remelyn Recoter, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Thursday.

The DA has allotted PHP2.6 million for the procurement of vegetable seeds under ALPAS. Since it is still in the procurement process, the target is to distribute the seeds until May 18.

 However, the DA High-Value Crops Program has provided 9,473 packets or 251 kg. of assorted vegetable seeds to individuals and groups in the region since it began distribution on April 2.

To inspire the public to plant, the regional office initiated the “Binhi Ko, Tanom Ko, Post Ko” campaign where those who availed of vegetable seeds from the DA are encouraged to post in their social media account pictures of the seeds or the status of their planting activities.

They can use #postyourown veggies and tag the DA - Regional Agri-Fishery Information Division (RAFID) RFO VI Facebook Account.

“Social media is a promising approach to reach our people, to inspire them or get them involved towards a good cause,” Recoter added.

Those who would like to avail of seeds may get in touch with their nearest agriculture office or the nearest DA Outreach Station.

In a previous interview, Recoter expressed her hope that local government units (LGUs) would include vegetable products in the relief assistance for their constituents.

She said this is possible because under the Bayanihan Act and with the national health emergency, they are already allowed to use their calamity funds.

 “In their food packs, instead of sardines and noodles, hopefully, there are variations,” Recoter said, adding that vegetables can boost the immune system.

She expressed hope that the LGUs would procure the produce of their farmer-constituents so they still have income amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, based on available data, Recoter said Western Visayas remains sufficient in rice, livestock, and chicken.

Rice harvest from January to February and the March projection was at 410,000 metric tons while the region’s quarterly demand is only 262,000 metric tons.

The region is 156 percent rice sufficient, she said.

On the other hand, Western Visayas had a 250-percent sufficiency level in terms of hogs in 2019.

Based on the hog inventory in January, the per capita consumption monthly is less than 1 kg., she said.

The available supply is at 28,000 metric tons and the annual demand is 5,000 metric tons.

“Since there are no more tourists, we have sufficient supply of pork, more than 80 percent of our swine industry is being grown in backyards,” Recoter said.

She said the region has 10,234 metric tons of chicken supply as of the end of March and has plenty of poultry integrators and large poultry farms. (PNA)
