1943 08 13 Ju 88 vs Wellington - Mark Postlethwaite

On 13 August 1943, Oberleutnant Dieter Meister of 13./KG 40, flying a Ju 88R-2 coded F8+NX, shot down a Wellington XIII of No 304 ‘Polish’ Sqn that was on sea patrol searching for U-boats in the Bay of Biscay. Twenty-four-year-old Meister had joined V./KG 40 from bomber training school in July 1942. Wellington HZ638, coded 2P, had taken off from its base at Davidstow Moor, in Cornwall, at 0936 hrs. Its crew of Flt Lt S Widanka, Plt Off S Kielan and Sgts W Pastwa, L Dangel, F Gorka and K Czarnecki were all posted missing.

The 13 August encounter was at least Meister’s second with the Poles of No 304 Sqn, for on 16 October 1942 his Ju 88C-6had been damaged by another of the unit’s Wellingtons, although he and his crew had scaped unhurt.

Serving in both 13. and15. Staffeln, Meister was awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 17 October 1943. That same month V./KG 40 was redesignated I./ZG 1 and Meister wa sappointed Kapitän of 3. Staffel. He is believed to have been credited with ten victories by war’s end

About the summaries

Episode 1: Everything’s Gonna Be Alright… Or Not.

Amanda catches up with one of the 3 boys she was entertaining, activist boy. They agree that they’ll be going out.

Trix spends time with her mother and baby brother, and they talk about how her and her little sibling are so different. Her mother wonders why she’s so hard on herself, and wishes she could be enjoying life more. Trix has obviously taken the film school rejection hard.

Pri’s got a developing career as an online sustainable fashion influencer. She decides to recruit Trix to assist with production

Trix meets up with Bruno and apologizes for the events of the last season. She says she wants to remain friends, but Bruno isn’t for it, saying that he needs space and time to get over the relationship.

The girls meet on the beach. Trix get support after the conversation with Bruno. They ask her about where Pri is, and Trix says they had a bit of a misunderstanding at the wedding, but they’re good and they’ll talk that day.

Trix heads over to Pri’s place and apologizes for the events at the wedding, saying she confused things. Pri doesn’t seem thrilled by that admission, but they agree to pretend it didn’t happen. Trix agrees to help Pri with the project.

Amanda, Trix, and Pri talk about the latter having an agent for her work. Amanda tells the girls she accepted a date with activist boy but she kind of regrets it, saying the dj boy from the wedding, Igor, also asked her out.

Amanda is leaving her date with dj boy. They have a conversation about music, their likes and dislikes, and personal anecdotes related to music. They agree to meet again. She cancels her date with activist boy.

Trix meets with Carol, who asks her when she knew she loved Bruno. Trix said it took a while, and because they were best friends, it was hard to imagine him as a boyfriend. It was only when he said he liked her that the pieces fell into place, and he gained a special place in her heart.

My thoughts:

A Trix and Pri storyline feels inevitable. Combine the fact that they’ll be working together on a project this season with their mannerisms as they talked with/thought about each other, as well as Trix’s admission that her relationship with Bruno only began after he said he liked her, and it feels clear. Still, I’m ready to be disappointed in that regard.

I have no thoughts on Amanda. I just hope she’s happy!

The air operations in support of the ground battle reached their zenith of intensity on 10 August. By this time the RAF effort was shifting back towards the original intention of interdicting the German lines of communications by attacking the key railway centres through which any reinforcements would need to transit. Twelve DH9s from 27 and 49 squadrons were tasked with bombing Peronne railway station escorted by SESas of 32 Squadron and Bristol Fighters of 62 Squadron. As they approached the target from the south-west they were attacked by 14 Fokker DVlls from Jasta 15 led by the ace commander of JG II, Rudolf Berthold. In order to maintain the advantage given by a higher position both attackers and defenders normally split their force with one element placed above the other to act as 'top cover'. Once under attack a defender would attempt to execute a climbing turn towards the attack to bring his own guns to bear, prevent the attacker form getting on his tail and to get above the attacker. As a consequence each combat soon degenerated into a rolling maul of aircraft climbing and turning in search of a killing shot. Flying with 32 Squadron was Second Lieutenant J. 0. Donaldson of the USAS on attachment to the RAF. Donaldson was flying as top cover as 'B5' in SESa E5939 when: " "observed 9 Fokker biplanes, at 13000ft over Peronne, at 1130hrs dive on 3 SE5a). Pilot coming to their assistance, fired 150 rounds into first EA [enemy aircraft) at close range, EA turned over on its back, and went down in a flat spin, and was observed to spin, out of control about 10000ft. Four Fokker biplanes dived on Pilot, who made a climbing turn, firing 50 rounds into second EA without results. Pilot did half roll and dived again, two EA continued to follow, pilot then made another climbing turn, firing 50 rounds into EA without result. Pilot turned and dived under some Bristol Fighters ". A passing patrol from the elite 56 Squadron joined in the melee to stack the odds against Jasta 1 5, however, the powerful DVlls were faster and more agile than their opponents and exacted a severe toll from the RAF as one DH9 and four fighters were shot down for the loss of only one German aircraft. Unfortunately for JG II the loss was Berthold who was seriously injured after having his aircraft shot out of control. With no one able to confirm Donaldson's victim's crashing he was only credited with a 'shot down out of control' rather than a kill. Donaldson's luck ran out three weeks later on 1 September at Cambrai where he became the 11th victim of Leutnant Theo Quandt of Jasta 36 and was taken prisoner.

Ranking the D+LA shows I have seen

I have not seen L-pop or Freeks, or if there’s an even new one that has popped up.

1. Entrelazados

The concept is really cool and nice, and probably the most fledged out d+la show out of all of them. I love the time travel aspect, and the mysteries surrounding it. Season 2 also expanded a LOT on it, and I think season 3 will definitely be very interesting how they do it.

2. Papás por encargo

It used to be my number 1, simply because season 1 is SOOOO wholesome. I wasn't as engaged with S2, even though S2 was really really cute too. I think it's also lower now because THEY REMOVED IT IN EUROPE??? SO I CAN'T WATCH IT ANYMORE UNLESS I HAVE A VPN???

Nonetheless, it's such a wholesome show.

3. Siempre fui yo

Justice for Lumina!!!

Ok, while I love the mystery solving part of this show, the romance plot is a little... well. Lupe and Noah have this really weird on and off relationship where they basically have the most sexual tension imaginable, and then are like "yeah idk if he likes me"...

I love the CONCEPT of S2, where all of them are in this one location and someone's an "impostor". Live for that. I also love that it wasn't a NEW character that was the one betraying them. Usually it's a new character that is sus, but this time it was someone we knew since S1.

4. O Coro

Absolute drug trip, I love it so much. So sad they just removed it from D+

5. Tudo Igual SQN

LOVE the friendships between the girls. If this show was ONLY the girls having slice of life friendship adventures, it would be fine.

BUT THEY HAD TO DO THAT. THEY HAD TO DO THAT.

Cool concept, definitely. Pretty original, even! Love that there's a restaurant called "Creepy Pasta".

I just wasn't too into it to continue.

It FELT like a plot was gonna happen, but then it just... DIDN'T? I just waited for something to happen and was left so unsatisfied.
