I don't drink a lot of caffeine anymore, but I had some this morning to treat a headache and holy hell I had to go sit and deep breathe for a while. Broke out in a cold sweat and got dizzy and sat there with my pulse ox looking at my pulse at 113bpm. No more caffeine first thing in the AM for me, I'll just take the headache!
It might be sexy to write about but I DO NOT enjoy actual palpitations. 😱😫🤣
Also aware I might be getting someone else mildly excited right now... That's fine. 🤣🥵

9 weeks 2 days pregnant: heartbeats and the end of shots
Whoops, it's been a few weeks, but things are moving really fast. I went in for my first ultrasound on March 20 and had all the same nerves as last time: trying to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Everything is so scary in the first trimester when you have no real symptoms (or at least I don't, other than the fatigue) so it's hard to convince yourself there's anything going on in there. It didn't help that they were super busy so I was waiting more than hour to go in for my appointment.
But once I got in there, the doctor popped in the wand thing and we IMMEDIATELY heard a strong little heartbeat. Or at least I thought it was strong – she said the heartbeat was 113bpm and ideally by this time (I guess 6.5 weeks?) she'd want 120, so I had to make another appointment to come in the following week. But at least she reassured me that she wasn't worried at all, which was nice because I felt like that gave us permission to finally celebrate a tiny bit. With IVF, once you hear a heartbeat, there's like a 90% chance that you'll have a baby at the end. So it finally felt real. She took pictures and the baby looked like a little tiny ghost. But even though it was so tiny, it's always wild seeing it suddenly go from an empty uterus to one with anything in it.
I went back in a week later, we checked again, and the heartbeat was 163, so she was very happy. She even gave me a hug! It's still so weird – we have such a different relationship than the last time around, when I was so tense and upset all the time. It's really nice getting to experience some of these milestones with a different attitude. I got some new pictures, and this time it was a very visible tiny ghost – it went from being almost invisible to taking up like half of the space! I asked the doctor what the embryo (baby?) was attached to, and she said the yolk sac (which becomes the placenta). This reminded me a little too much of my backyard chickens and I was not able to eat eggs for a few days.
Anyway, as of this point I officially graduated from IVF! So now the next step is to go see my normal ob/gyn (although they seem extremely unconcerned and I won't be able to go in until May, so we're back in the dead zone between information. But whatever).
We had a bit of drama with the wind-down schedule for the shots. We found out after my first ultrasound that the very last week of shots (the "wind down" week, when you start lowering your dose) overlapped with an international week-long trip for work that I couldn't get out of. So we scrambled and booked my husband flights and arranged child care and animal care for the week. But when I went back in for the second one, I mentioned this to the doctor and she said it was totally fine to just switch to crinone suppositories for the final week instead of doing the shots. So we pivoted again and my husband didn't have to come with me. Very nice for him. I made him say out loud that he appreciates me dealing with the suppositories. Not looking forward to the ~~~leakage~~~ but at least it's only for a week. I'm here now on my work trip and got to experience inserting a suppository in the airplane bathroom. It was less interesting of an event than I was hoping for, but at least I can say I did it. (I don't know how or why I would ever say this to anyone.)
When I was trying to figure out the switch from shots to suppositories, and the 6 hour time difference, I was getting really worked up about gradually moving to the new time, making sure it stayed roughly 12 hours apart, etc. When I talked to my doctor about it, she did not care at all (it seems like the wind down week is really mostly just a formality) as long as I don't go 24 hours without a dose. So we're just winging it. If I get a UTI from excessive crinone use I'm gonna be mad though.
But! Switching to the suppositories meant that Friday was our last shot ever. Recently they've been hurting a lot ("you're like a pin cushion", my husband keeps helpfully saying while he stabs me) but this one went in like butter. Right when I was commenting that it didn't hurt at all, he pulled it out, screamed, and said "Ahhh don't look!" (I know, weird reaction.) Blood was just spurting out of me like in a horror movie. All over both of us, all over the floor. It finally just kind of stopped on its own and I suppose like so many other things we'll never know why it decided to do this this time. But I found it pretty poetic for our last hurrah.

I just came back from the ER after self soothing to make sure I wasn't making up my symptoms but it turns out my heart was at 113bpm and had a fever with a viral infection making my body ache so bad i couldnt move. So... I guess I wasn't making it up to be taken care off....

All right, it’s been 12 hours, so time for watch number two! MY BIG REVIEW IS FINALLY DONE!
I love that they just hit the ground running and immediately start right where we need to be. There’s no time to waste!
Even the cinematography of that water droplet, they aren’t messing around! (Watching it again, I wonder, “Is that bug a shapeshifted Loki?!” That’s what Marvel has done to me lol.
The way he sputters out the sand! He’s already comedic but not so comedic that it’s out of character.
This speed sequence is so cool!!!!
This face. This is the first time we’ve seen Loki truly fearful of what is going on. For the first time that we’ve seen, he is out of his element.
Tumblr media
The rush of this opening Marvel title sequence. I cannot!! It’s beautiful. And GORGEOUS. and most importantly, so Loki! 💚✨
Why is this place so aesthetically pleasing??
Tumblr media
I love how pissed he looks when signing all the paperwork. Been there lol.
Gosh I love this TVA Miss Minutes animation. I’m a sucker for old Hollywood and all things vintage so this is right up my alley. ⏰
SO glad they changed out “crap” to “bunkum.” THANK GOODNESS. That would have been so out of character.
THIS TITLE SEQUENCE IS PURE PERFECTION!!!! 🤩🤩🤩
Tumblr media
Provence:
So, we can all agree this is 100% Kid Loki, right?? The way Mobius taps the kid in the chest makes it sound unnatural, like a robot or something. Did anyone else notice that?
Oh, Loki. Always the opportunist. Of course he would try to get the upper hand and enlist him self as a leader in their system. Similar to him and Thanos, “If you’re going to earth, you’ll need a guide.”
This scene’s soundtrack is just breathtaking. Everything about it is absolutely magical. Again, this show does not hold back.
Tumblr media
“I would have made it easy for them.” Loki really does believe he would be a great leader. Not necessarily a fair leader, but in his mind, a visionary.
ONCE THEY START PLAYING CLIPS, I GOT CHILLS. THIS IS ONLY GOING TO BE INTENSE.
“Do you enjoy hurting people?” WOW, MOBIOUS! Look at his little nervous fidgeting. Who hasn’t done this in an uncomfortable situation. Such a great little detail.
Tumblr media
D.B. Cooper! I wish we would have gotten more stories like this, even little clips of other pranks he did in the past.
The shift once Loki stands up to make a point. At first he is playing along but then he starts having enough. He is starting to shake in his boots and begin to lash out with insults and jabs at TVA.
OMG THE DARK WORLD. I am so glad they have focused so much on this movie because it really is THE Loki movie. I would dare to say that Loki has more of a story in it than Thor, 100%. It begins with Loki, he suffers from his mother, has the best scenes throughout the film, and then sacrifices himself only to come back in the end. It is the Loki movie. People have their opinions on whether they deem it a good film but I LOVE it. Again, SO glad it gets the analysis it deserves.
FRIGGA. No comment needed.
That whole aftermath of that scene with Loki losing it and essentially having a life crisis only to then be told essentially he is merely a pawn to help others achieve greatness while he is meant to kill and destroy… OUCH. I mean, BRUTAL. That might be my favorite scene out of the episode though for the way it builds and builds until Loki has to accept help (Mobious offering him a hand up.) Accepting help is not easy. That’s already growth right there.
Tumblr media
“GUT YOU LIKE A FISH, CASEY!” Love him so much. That’s our bby right there. 😂
Tumblr media
NO BBY NO! Don’t skip forward!!!
He is actually blubbering at hearing Odin’s words and I can’t take it! 😭😭😭
This face. This is the face of pure fear. This is the face of being triggered. This is the face of exponential dread. Sends chills down my spine.
Tumblr media
As this scene builds, I could feel my nerves and heart beating faster. Sure enough… my smart watch said it went from 73 to 113bpm . 113?!?! That’s like a warm up right there! Cause of death: Marvel not giving a shit about my sensitive emotions.
DAMN. That’s all that can be said after that scene.
Loki in control of the time manipulator! I have been so excited for this moment ever since I saw it in a promo. This is pure Loki. God of mischief. You mess with me, I’ll mess with you right back and then some! Plus, what better way to let out your anger after this shit show of a day than have some fun.
Tumblr media
When Loki sits down with the Tessaract and puts his head in his hands, it looks like he’s about to lose it and bawl. You see his chest move rapidly like he’s about to let out the waterworks but then immediately stops when his vulnerability is about to be shown, when Mobious steps in.
Tumblr media
What a scene. What a character analysis. What a masterclass in the God of Mischief. Pain, Vulnerability, Anger, Fear, all rolled into one. And we love him through it all.
(WE ALL KNOW THIS IS LADY LOKI IN OKLAHOMA, RIGHT?!)
And then ending with the gorgeous credits with the epic soundtrack and beautiful scenes that are art in of itself.
Loki, you done good. You done real good.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

What running every day for 7 days did for me (personal and fitbit data):
Lowered my resting heart rate from 68bpm to 55bpm
Raised my cardio fitness score from the low end of 32 (average, leaning towards poor for women my age ) to 36 (low end of good)
Barely ran 2.4km at a 6'39" average pace to running 3.11km at a 6'12" average pace
Cardiovascular control greatly improved, greater stamina and less tightness/struggle to take a full breath, no longer need to use an inhaler before a run
Run on Sept. 2 had me at 13 minutes in my peak zone (168bpm+), 2 min cardio (134bpm - 167bpm) and 1 min fat burn (113bpm - 133bpm), run on Sept 9 had me at 1 min peak, 11 min cardio, 5 min fat burn
Basically I have run inconsistently since April because gyms were closed. I never ran before this, however I was very active - i just focused primarily on weight lifting and got my cardio from walking up hill on a treadmill, or the stair master and occasionally, interval training. But my cardio was still bad. My first run in April, I barely made 1.5km running at a 6'30" average pace & I had to take my inhalers. I was on and off running, going 1 - 2 times a week to once every few weeks. As a result my fitbit stats plummetted. I was only going on walks and doing yoga (my cardio fitness score used to be up to 39, which was good-very good for women my age & my resting heart rate was down to 53). Not that there's anything wrong with low scores but I was just not feeling my best, I was very stressed and was struggling with depression. So recently I've decided to genuinely put effort into running because I am NOT good at it (never have been) and it's a new challenge for me... and this month I started with just committing to doing it every day as long as I could just to see how much I could improve those numbers & I'm honestly very impressed. I'm hoping to continue running every day the rest of this month to see how I can improve, assuming no extenuating circumstances mean I cant (but i wont beat myself up!! I just want to do the best I can)
If you, like me, think you arent a runner but you've always been envious of people who are, honestly just try it. Just run as far as you can as long as you can (genuinely try to push past your discomfort for as long as it feels safe, because it WILL be uncomfortable at first). If it gets too difficult, walk & then run again when you feel it's safe to do so. Map out a goal for yourself close to your home (maybe it's run a 1km loop without stopping - that was mine! i ended up being able to safely push to 1.5km on my first run with positive encouragement from my bf even though it was hard!!!) & keep running it until you can do the whole thing - then set a new goal. Dont worry about pacing right away, that can be improved with time! Just run at a comfortable speed!
My current big goal is to run 5km without stopping. Once i hit that maybe I'll be content or maybe I'll want to run longer! I'll have to see how I feel.
But yes, just wanted to share my success! Also to be transparent, I've been incorporating other workouts every couple days (either light dumbells if I'm at my bfs, or body weight/interval/band circuit workouts if at home). So improvements are not SOLELY from running but the stuff I'm doing takes no more than 30 - 60 min including stretching.
Running really is just putting one foot in front of the other, running to the end of the next block, finishing up that last 500m, until you genuinely can't anymore. I really encourage you to try!!

Stuck...
Can't go back to work til i stop having symptoms.
It's been 2 weeks.
I've been taking baths to help with the body aches. I had to get out almostas soon as i got in last night. Something about the hot water threw my heart rate into hyper drive. Instead of relaxing, I freaked out and had the weirdest vision thing happen, along with my ears filling with the sound of my own blood moving. I went back to bed and watched a movie...had some food and then went to sleep. I woke up in a cold sweat 3 times and when I finally got up at 7, I felt like I'd been running all night; my legs sore as fuck. Went to the bathroom, came back down the stairs, and felt like my ears needed to pop ...like, pressure. My vision was pulsing with my heart beat.
Checked my heart rate. 113bpm.
Waited 30 minutes, relaxing. 108bpm.
Checked it just now, an hour later, and its 103bpm.
This scares me. I'm pretty sure it's not ok for your heart to be beating at that rate for hours. And getting up or moving at all makes my heart race like crazy.
What the fuck. I can't keep feeling like this. . . I can't keep being off work. I can't go do anything, isolation. I can't have anyone visit, isolation. I keep having strange symptoms and its all part of this virus.
So I've been told.
I need to figure this out. I need to know if this shit is dragging on for reasons I have yet to figure out.

ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT - Day 6 - Pisang to Manang
SUMMIT SNICKERS | JUMBLE GEOLOGY | DEHYDRATION | YAK SELFIE | CREAM CAKE
25th October 2018
THE DAY IN NUMBERS
9 Miles
8 Hours 20 Mins
Starting Elevation 3250m
Finish Elevation 3520m
Average Temperature 23C (Low 16C - High 27C)
Average Heartrate 113bpm (Max 156bpm)
Day 6 on the Annapurna Circuit - A STEEP CLIMB TO enter A land of jumbled GEOLOGY + yaks
Have I mentioned Tibetan bread yet? Well in case I haven’t I will reiterate that Tibetan Bread is the king of breakfasts on the circuit, nothing else fills you up quite so well as you tackle the mornings of ‘Nepali flat’ walking. Breakfast consumed we packed up and weaved our way through the narrow paths of Upper Pisang before the trail opened up ahead of us towards Ghyaru.
There is a choice from Pisang to take the high route (via Ghyaru) or the low route following the road. The choice depends if you want to get in a practice ascent climbing to over 3700m before dropping down to Manang or stick to the gradual climb to Manang. We had decided quite early on the high route would help give our bodies a chance to test our acclimatisation to the altitude. It would also test our minds a little with an insight into what the uphill struggle of pass day might be like.
We had been talking about the climb the previous evening, and so at first there was a sense of nervous anticipation, but it soon dissipated with each breath of the fresh morning air and the distraction of morning light hitting the giants of the Annapurna range.
Day 6 is split into two halves by the climb to Ghyaru.
Our gentle stroll through scattered pine trees and cool morning air was abruptly ended by the sight of the zig-zagging path which rose some 400m to our right, it’s final destination hidden. It was time to join the chain of hikers slowly making their way up the narrow dust trail. The steep climbs on the circuit bring groups of hikers together. It seems no matter if you set off a little earlier or later each day at some point on the slow plod uphill you will overlap or be overlapped by some familiar faces. My tendency to stop every few minutes to take photos (and catch my breath) means I’m particularly likely to see the same faces plenty of times. The momentum from the constant chain of hikers helps nudge you onwards. Finding a rhythm that allows you to keep going for as long as possible becomes a mini obsession. I became acutely aware of the creaking sound my backpack would make with each sequence of steps and this became a metronome I could concentrate on to keep moving.
Reaching Ghyaru after 45 minutes of relentless uphill we joined the crowd in dropping our packs to the floor and taking a seat to enjoy our reward, yes another stunning view of the Annapurna Range. At this point I felt great, the endorphin hit that comes after exercise added with the appreciation of where we were I was on a high. I suppose the sugar from my summit Snickers also helped.
THE VALLEY OF JUMBLED ROCKS
We lingered in Ghyaru for around 45 minutes and gradually familiar groups of trekkers came and went, all heading towards Manang. It was still only just after 9 am and our plan for the day was flexible, we would either stay in Bhakra or try and push on Manang. So we were again in no rush and now we were high in the valley the views across to the Annapurna range had revealed a new perspective. It felt like we were almost level with the snow line and the harsh faces of the mountains became more pronounced. I stopped often to photograph the textures on the other side of the valley where snow fought rock and patterns the likes of which I hadn’t seen before grabbed my attention.
We stopped after another hour or so at a tiny teahouse, I was still awestruck by the mountains opposite as I chewed on a rather crunchy pain au chocolat. Above my head hung on the teahouse walls was a Yak’s head, a sign we were entering Yak land. The next village we would reach would be Ngawal where we would most likely stop for lunch and see how much further we’d go on that day. The standout memory from this part of the trek and the rest of the day was the geology that surrounded us. It feels too simplistic to say it was unlike anything I have ever seen before, but it really was. [Here I wish my geological knowledge would allow me to describe the scenes in more detail.] In each direction you looked there seemed to be a completely different form of rock, rising to different heights and different angles. The individual formations seemed familiar, towers that reminded me of places in Spain, or the sandy colours of the American west but it was the assembly of such variety all in one place that seemed remarkable. Laid bare, we were getting a glimpse into the jumble of geology that was being slowly pushed up from below the surface. The landscape felt alive, a sense of movement you don’t get in the landscapes at home where the hills are rounded by time. In some ways, it reminded me that we really were walking amongst the chaos of a changing landscape where the continent of India continues forcing its way northwards.
GOING DOWNHILL
Reaching Ngawal and catching up with Ryan & Andrew it was still quite early in the day and we decided to continue on without a lunch stop here, mindful that the trail was busy here and arriving as early as possible would offer more accommodation options. Unfortunately for me, the day went downhill, both literally as we now descended back to the valley floor but also physically as I developed a headache and brief spells of nausea. At this point, I was spending most of my time hiking a couple of minutes behind Ryan & Andrew as I stopped often to take photos.
We were now back walking among the sparse pine trees but they offered little shade. At some sections, there were multiple choices of paths that weaved through the woods and it became a little disorienting until the view of the path ahead opened up again. Eventually, we came across a single tea house tucked into the woods and stopped for the classic veg noodles lunch. At this point, I realised I was probably dehydrated more so than suffering from altitude so the break and chance to take on plenty of liquids helped improve my physical and mental condition.
We were now over 5 hours into the day’s walking and after the earlier effort of the climb and despite the benefits of a lunch stop I still found it slow going. The path seemed much quieter now, the long day dispersing the chain of trekkers and with many deciding to stop in Ngawal. We reached Bhakra around 3 pm, it was quiet here also and so we decided to continue on to Manang only 30mins ahead. We were going to rest in Manang for a couple of days anyway so another few minutes would mean we could hopefully unpack and relax there.
As we moved through Bhakra a yak wandered in front of a Buddhist gompa, below houses nestled into rock towers that looked like the pipes of an organ. A memorable Himalayan scene.
YAK LAND
The final approach to Manang wasn’t far and the main attraction for me was again the Yak’s that wandered around the paths. I was completed unaware as to their temperament but I assumed with them being allowed to wander along the busy trail I could probably stop to take a few photos without causing them too much aggravation. We were now down again at river level in an amphitheatre of giant peaks on all sides. The sun was quickly falling in the sky, not far from being consumed by the Annapurna massif and already casting shadows on the landscape.
I lingered in these plains outside Manang for as long as possible, had some fun getting a Yak selfie before joining Ryan & Andrew in wandering the streets of the town in search of accommodation.
As I walked through the uneven streets of Manang Andrew was stood on the roof of a guesthouse being shown the rooftop toilet and signalling it was a no/last resort for that accommodation. Manang is always busy at this time of year as many people stop over a few days to acclimatise then accommodation is in demand. We only had one option, the North Pole Hotel. I’m reluctant to complain about any accommodation in a place such as this, but I can say there are plenty of better options in Manang.
MANANG
Bags dropped it was time to sit and enjoy a pot of tea at the Nilgiri Guesthouse mostly being enticed in by the cunningly placed cakes in the window. Chocolate & cream cake never tasted so good.
I had planned to head back out to the edge of Manang to take more photos in the last light of the day, however, the sun fell much quicker than I expected. As darkness came we headed back to our guesthouse for a cosy night playing cards and eating dal bhat. We just caught a glimpse of the sunset illuminating Annapurna III through the window. Not quite a colourful as a couple of nights before but still a beautiful moment.
