"I'm her best enemy. Call me Master."
STORY OF THE WEEK: Spyfall (season 12, episodes 1 & 2)
Release date: 01 January - 05 January 2020 Main characters: Thirteenth Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Graham O'Brien & Ryan Sinclair Main villain: The Master, Daniel Barton & Kasaavin
Tumblr media
This week’s episode highlight is dedicated to “Spyfall”, a two-part story first released in January 2020. During these episodes, we re-encounter the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), along with her season 11 companions: Yaz (Mandip Gill), Graham (Bradley Walsh), and Ryan (Tosin Cole). We are also introduced to a new incarnation of one of Doctor Who’s biggest and most adored foes, The Master, wonderfully portrayed by Sacha Dhawan.
"Spyfall" (...) re-establishes an enmity of the ages between Jodie Whittaker’s sunshine Doctor (utterly relaxed and loving the madness) and Sacha Dhawan’s unhinged, raging Master (who’s reverted back to his old pre-Missy ways, seemingly out of pure spite). Together, they’re electric. - Daniel
Now, I can be quite a shallow person, so these episodes are mostly marked in my memory by Thirteen’s amazing suit (love that outfit so much!!). However, there are many people smarter than me on the team, capable of thoughts more coherent than this and, as such, this week I bring you some reflections by Daniel (whom you can find on Bluesky, at danielrawnsley.bsky.social), one of the writers for the zine.
Daniel writes: “After lulling “Doctor Who” audiences into a false sense of security with his kinder, gentler season 11, Chris Chibnall woke them right back up again with a one-two punch of the Daleks and then the Master, both reintroduced into the series in spectacular fashion. Far more than just a silly Bond pastiche, "Spyfall"’s double-dose of globetrotting adventure brings the show’s own history roaring back with a huge injection of fun (Motorbikes! Bombs on planes! Out-of-control cars! Laser shoes!) and re-establishes an enmity of the ages between Jodie Whittaker’s sunshine Doctor (utterly relaxed and loving the madness) and Sacha Dhawan’s unhinged, raging Master (who’s reverted back to his old pre-Missy ways, seemingly out of pure spite). Together, they’re electric. Part 1 ends on a brilliant set-up of a cliffhanger, while Part 2 takes an audacious dive back into the past that feels like a return to the dramatic heyday of the RTD years. By the end, though, Chibnall has definitively made his mark.”

Fanfic Idea #90
Missy and the Raggedy Doctor
Instead of going into the Time War, the Master stays and the drums are gone, though still having Skeletor issues. Instead of the Doctor regenerating to save Wilf, the Master beats him to it, way to make amends (at least start to anyway), beat the Doctor to saving the day, and the Doctor can't have more than 3 regenerations left, so if they're really the only two left she's not going to let him just go throwing his life away anymore, because she doesn't want to be the only one (addendum doctor has maybe 2 regenerations left (from master's pov probably would think 2- wouldn't know about metacrisis making it 1) master has 9). Regenerates into Missy (hence Missy and the Raggedy Doctor) will be protective of the Doctor because she wants to get better and he's her best friend, thank you very much, probably puts a tracker on him or something, because he's always slipping off and getting into trouble, but he wouldn't let her put a leash on him, so there's really only so much she can do, you know.
Who needs a policeman anyways? I'm better than a policeman, you want to know why? (Amelia nods) a policeman couldn't do anything about the crack in your wall.
Missy regenerates into Dhawan Master when 11 regenerates into 12, "oh, you're all old and gray. I thought we were doing younger?" Instead of the promised land in series 8, people are after the Master for revenge but tell people to capture the Doctor for a bounty because the Master has been traveling with him long enough people know they can get to the Master through the Doctor. So everybody thinks somebody's after the Doctor but really it's the Master they find out at the end. Not as good as the Missy reveal, but I'm not a TV writer either, so
Apologies for that being so stream of consciousness, on the plus side, here are the bits I wrote using transcripts from here.
Amelia meets the Doctor and waits
DOCTOR: You'll have your family back. You won't need your imaginary friend any more.  You’ll be alright. You wanna know why?
AMY: Why?
DOCTOR: (smiling) Because you’re brilliant, Amelia Pond. And you don’t need me, or anyone else for that.
The Pandorica closes. AMY walks slowly backwards, not taking her eyes from the Pandorica. The Pandorica begins to glow.
RIVER: Back! Get back! (pushes AMY out of the way)
The Pandorica launches into the sky.
INT. PANDORICA
The DOCTOR sends a message via his communicator before dropping it to the floor as the pain increases.
INT. PANDORICA ROOM, DAY
RIVER, RORY and AMY are sitting on the floor against a wall. RIVER receives the message on her communicator.
RIVER: It's from the Doctor. (looks skyward)
AMY: What does it say?
RIVER: "Allons-y"
INT. PANDORICA
The DOCTOR rides through the g-force as the Pandorica sh**t on its collision course with the TARDIS.
SPACE
When the TARDIS and Pandorica meet, space explodes. And, just as suddenly, time reverses.
INT. TARDIS
The DOCTOR wakes up on the floor and sits up.
DOCTOR: Oh!  I’m still alive. Brilliant! (pauses) How am I alive?
The DOCTOR gets up when he hears his voice and AMY'S.
PAST DOCTOR: The beach. Oh, you’ll love the beach. It’s got  a*t*matic sand.
PAST AMY: a*t*matic sand? What does that mean?
PAST DOCTOR: Well, it's automated, obviously.
The DOCTOR walks around and sees himself and AMY dressed for the beach.
DOCTOR: Oh.
PAST DOCTOR: Cleans up the lolly sticks...
DOCTOR: No, hang on! That's last week when we went to Space Florida. I'm rewinding. My.. My time stream... unravelling, erasing. Closing. (looks at monitor and sees the crack closing) Hello, universe, goodbye, Doctor. Amy? (PAST AMY turns around) Amy?
EXT. RESIDENTIAL STREET, DAY
The DOCTOR'S timeline rewinds further until he "arrives" outside the flat he shared with Craig. AMY crosses the street in front of him.
DOCTOR: This is three weeks ago, when she put the card in the window. Amy! (she looks up) I need to tell you something. She can hear me! But if she can hear me...
The DOCTOR turns around to see the crack in the road. Time rewinds again.
INT. BYZANTIUM, FOREST CLEARING
The DOCTOR arrives in a hollow and hears himself as he leaves to find the primary flight deck.
PAST DOCTOR: Good luck everyone. Behave. Do not let that girl open her eyes. And keep watching the forest. Stop those Angels advancing. Amy, later! (taps her on the head) River, going to need your computer. (leaves)
The DOCTOR approaches PAST AMY and puts his hands on hers.
DOCTOR: Amy. you need to start trusting me, it's never been more important.
PAST AMY: But you don't always tell me the truth.
DOCTOR: Well, (tilting his head to the side) if I always told you the truth, I wouldn't need you to trust me, now would I?
PAST AMY: Doctor, the crack in my wall, how can it be here?
DOCTOR: Not sure yet, but I'm—working it out. (looks at past self and Missy (?)) Now, listen. This is important. Remember what I told you when you were seven?
PAST AMY: You don’t remember what you told me when I was seven.
DOCTOR: (grips her shoulders) That’s because I haven’t said it yet. What’s important is that you remember.  (pulls her into a hug and leaves)
PAST AMY: Remember what? Doctor? Doctor?
Time rewinds again.
INT. HALL, NIGHT
The DOCTOR finds himself at AMY'S house. We hear a young girl's voice.
GIRL: Dear Santa, thank you for the dolls and pencils and the fish. It's Easter now, so I hope I didn't wake you.
INT. BEDROOM, NIGHT
AMELIA Pond is kneeling beside her bed, eyes closed, saying her prayers.
AMELIA: But honest, it is an emergency. There's a crack in my wall. (turns to wall where there is a crack spreading across it. Returns to prayer) Aunt Sharon says it's just an ordinary crack, but... I know it's not, because, at night, there's voices. So please, please, could you send someone to fix it? Or a policeman. Or...
The DOCTOR finds his way to AMELIA’s room. As he steps over the threshold, a floorboard creaks. AMELIA turns and sees the DOCTOR.
DOCTOR: Hello, Amelia Pond!
AMELIA: You’re not Santa.
The DOCTOR brings a hand up to rub the back of his neck.
DOCTOR: No, I’m not. He is a good friend though. We go back a-ways, me and old Saint Nick.
AMELIA: Did he send you then? Santa? But, you’re not a policeman either…
DOCTOR: How do you know I’m not a policeman? I could too be a policeman!
AMELIA gives the DOCTOR an unimpressed look. The DOCTOR deflates slightly.
DOCTOR: Well, policemen are boring anyways. Besides, a policeman wouldn’t be able to do anything about the crack in your wall.
AMELIA looks towards the crack nervously.
DOCTOR: It is a nasty thing isn’t it. I’m actually fixing it right now, should probably be gone soon. (looks silently at the crack for a moment) or, well, maybe not so soon for you. Well, it’ll be gone soon but it’ll also take a while.
The DOCTOR looks back at AMELIA, who is visibly confused.
DOCTOR: I’m sorry, it's a bit—complicated. Blimey, it's also a bit hard to think with all that racket! You sleep in here? (AMELIA nods) I’m impressed. I couldn’t sleep with all that noise. Well, I can’t get rid of it just yet, but maybe I can make it a bit quieter.
The DOCTOR approaches the wall and begins examining it, and reaches into his jacket pocket, grabbing out his sonic screwdriver. He then pauses, and turns back to AMELIA.
DOCTOR: Actually, have you got any bananas? I love bananas. And I am famished. Been running around all over the place today. Well, not today, today, but that doesn’t really matter. Point is, do you have any bananas?
AMELIA: …No. (hurriedly) We do have apples though.
DOCTOR: Oh, apples are good, not as good as a banana, mind, but it’s no pear either. I hate pears. Would you mind fetching me an apple, Amelia?
AMELIA shakes her head and leaves to get an apple for the DOCTOR. The DOCTOR turns his attention back to the crack.
DOCTOR: Now, why are you still making noise? (he sonics the crack)
A voice is now audible, coming from the crack.
ATRAXI (sp?): PRISONER ZERO HAS ESCAPED. (repeats continuously)
DOCTOR: What? You again? But I dealt with you… Wait a minute… I’m being thick—twelve years! Prisoner Zero said it had twelve years to make a connection with Amy. Exactly the same amount of time Amy said I was late by. So, Prisoner Zero must’ve just slipped through… But, how do the Atraxi know to look here…? Oh! Oh, yes, that’s it! It wasn’t just a coincidence they came at the same time I did, I’m about to open this thing up in order to close it—mostly close it anyways. Then the Atraxi will see me, and, well, they must’ve… looked for me, I suppose, but I’m all out of order. So, they don’t show up until I do, in twelve years—wait, wait, wait. This—doesn’t matter anymore does it? No crack, no prisoner zero. But I haven’t closed it yet… Of course! My being here, now, is the reason I come here to save the Earth and learn about the cracks and meet Amy in the first place! So, they’re still here, because they’ve got to be in order for me to come here in twelve years, and the Atraxi are here then, because I’m here now. Blimey, that’s complicated…
AMELIA: Um, I brought your apple?
DOCTOR: Oh, molto bene! Thank you. (he takes a bite, then pockets the apple)
AMELIA: I thought you were hungry?
DOCTOR: (with his mouth full) Oh, I am! (swallows) But, right now, I’ve got to open this crack, so it won’t be so noisy.
AMELIA: Won’t opening it just make it louder?
DOCTOR: Well, for a bit. Then it should, well, I’d say it should go away after it snaps back shut, but unfortunately this is a more stubborn crack than most. It’ll be more closed at least. All right, Amelia! Hold my hand.
AMELIA: Why?
DOCTOR: Because, it's probably going to be scary. I find holding a hand helps.
AMELIA: It helps you not be scared?
DOCTOR: (while sonicing the crack) Sort of. It reminds you you’re not alone.
THIS SCENE PROBABLY PROCEEDS MOSTLY THE SAME
DOCTOR: Well, that wasn’t so bad now was it? That crack shouldn’t be quite so loud now.
AMELIA: But, you can’t get rid of it?
DOCTOR: No, not just yet. Remember I said it was a stubborn crack? (AMELIA nods) In order to close it, I’ve got to get to my ship.
AMELIA: Like a boat?
DOCTOR: Oh, no. It’s much better than that. It's a ship that travels through time and space. It's called a TARDIS, for time-and-relative-dimension-in-space.
AMELIA: So, you can go anywhere any time? Is that how you know Santa?
DOCTOR: It is indeed. But it's so much more than that. It can take you to Santa, to ancient Rome, to the future, to other planets… The whole universe, brand new and ancient, all in one little box of the bluest blue. Oh, you’d love it Amelia.
AMELIA: It sounds amazing!
DOCTOR: Oh, it is! I can show it to you, if you like?
AMELIA: I’d love to see it!
DOCTOR: Here, I’ve got this trick. Close your eyes… (AMELIA closes her eyes. The DOCTOR gently brushes his fingers against her temple, and, just as gently, brushes his mind against hers, just enough to give her a glimpse of his beautiful, wheezing, blue TARDIS) You know, just between you and me, I actually stole it—well, borrowed it really. I always intended to bring it back…
AMELIA: It sounds like you might be on Santa’s naughty list. Is that why he has you running errands?
DOCTOR: Oi! I am not on the naughty list! I do Santa favors because I’m nice, I’ll have you know! (the Doctor spaces out for a moment) Ah, speaking of errands, I’m afraid I’ve got to be going soon, to take care of that crack in your wall. (AT SOME POINT THEY’VE GONE OUTSIDE, MAYBE AS HE TELLS HER ABOUT THE TARDIS)
AMELIA: But, you can’t go! Can’t you take me with you?
DOCTOR: I’m sorry Amelia, but, for now, I’ve got to go. (AMELIA sags in disappointment) Believe me, I don’t want to go, but I’ve got to. Tell you what… (The DOCTOR kneels down in front of AMELIA) I can be back in five minutes.
AMELIA: Everybody says that…
DOCTOR: Well, “everybody” doesn’t have a time machine, now do they? Remember, my blue box? I told you it can travel in time. Even if it takes me a while, I can just come back five minutes from now.
AMELIA: You promise?
DOCTOR: I’m sorry, I am so so sorry, I can’t stay right now, but I promise I’ll be back in five minutes.
AMELIA: I’ll just go get ready while I wait!
AMELIA rushes off to pack a bag.
DOCTOR: Oh, Amy, I am sorry. I thought maybe, I could help you remember, but maybe I’m just being selfish. I’ve cheated death already. Been living on borrowed time, thanks to Missy. Besides, after that crack closes up, you’ll have your mum and dad. Big empty house won’t be so empty anymore. You won’t need me anymore. Won’t even remember me. Well, maybe a little. That’s all right though. You and the universe need saving, and that’s what I do best. Might as well get it over with, don’t think there’re anymore time loops that need closing, no need to draw this out any longer.
We see AMELIA finish packing a bag, then rush downstairs to wait for the DOCTOR’s return. The crack closes and stars greet AMELIA as she leaves the house.
The Master saves Wilf
MASTER: You did this to me! All of my life! (uses other hand) You made me! (with each bolt, he steps closer) One! Two! Three! FOUR!
The MASTER is within the pull of the link and gets sent back to Gallifrey with the others.
SPACE
Gallifrey flickers and fades.
EXT. NOBLE HOUSE, FRONT, DAY
Gallifrey moves away from Earth. The people in the street laugh in relief and hug each other. SYLVIA smiles.
INT. NAISMITH MANSION, LAB, DAY
The DOCTOR is lying on his back on the floor. He rolls onto his side with a groan.
DOCTOR: I'm alive. I've... There was... (pushes himself into a sitting position) I'm still alive. (laughs shakily)
As the DOCTOR comes to terms with his survival, there are four knocks on glass. The DOCTOR’S eyes go wide at the realization. The four knocks repeat twice before the DOCTOR turns around to see WILF in the booth. WILF taps again and gives a little wave.
WILF: They've gone, then? Good-oh. If you could let me out...?
DOCTOR: Yeah.
WILF: Only, this thing seems to be making a bit of a noise.
DOCTOR: (stands) The Master...left the nuclear bolt running. It's gone into overload.
WILF: And that's bad, is it?
DOCTOR: No...’cause all the excess radiation gets vented inside there. Vinvocci glass contains it. All 500,000 rads, about to flood that thing.
WILF: Oh! (chuckles) Well, you'd better let me out, then.
DOCTOR: Except it's gone critical. Touch one control and it floods. (takes out the sonic) Even this would set it off.
WILF: I'm sorry.
DOCTOR: (whispers) Sure.
WILF: Look, just leave me.
DOCTOR: (breaking) OK. Right, then...I will. (paces) ‘Cause you had to go in there, didn't you? You had to go and get stuck, oh, yes! ‘Cause that's who you are, Wilfred. You were always this. Waiting for me all this time.
WILF: No, really, just leave me. I'm an old man, Doctor. I've had my time.
DOCTOR: Well, exactly. Look at you. Not remotely important. But me? I could do so much more. (yells at the ceiling) So much more! But this is what I get. My reward. And it's not fair! (pushes items off a desk and breathes heavily) Ohhh... Lived too long. (walks across the room)
WILF: No...no, no, please, please don't. No, don't. Don't... Please don't! Please!
The DOCTOR puts his hand on the door to the other booth.
DOCTOR: Wilfred...it's my honour. Better be quick. Three, two, one.
The DOCTOR steps inside the booth and presses the button, releasing WILF. His booth his then flooded with radiation. The DOCTOR groans and slides down to the floor. He curls up in pain. WILF watches until the machine switches off. The DOCTOR slowly unwinds and sits up.
WILF: What...? Hello.
DOCTOR: Hi.
WILF: Still with us?
DOCTOR: (stands with a gasp) The system's dead. I absorbed it all. Whole thing's kaput. (puts his hand on the door) Oh. Now it opens, yeah. (steps out)
Gallifrey was gone. Again. The Doctor had stopped Rassilon and doomed his people to their fate once more to save the rest of the universe. And, somehow, he had survived.
The Doctor rolled onto his side with a groan. “I’m alive. I’ve—”
“They’re gone.” The Master’s voice interrupted the Doctor’s revelation, and all of a sudden, as if he had just woken from a nightmare, the Doctor was sitting bolt upright, looking at his once friend sitting on the floor just a few feet away.
The Doctor looked to the Master, watching him closely and slowly getting to his feet. The Doctor was unsure of what the Master would do next, but figured he’d be better prepared for whatever it was on his feet. He hadn’t expected the Master to still be here—the other Time Lord had been standing so close, when he’d saved the Doctor, that the Doctor had thought he’d been transported back to the Time War along with Rassilon and the rest. Obviously, he’d been mistaken.
As the Doctor made his way to standing, the Master locked eyes with him.
“In my head—it's so quiet now,” the Master rasped out, and the Doctor only now realized that perhaps the Master hadn’t been talking about Gallifrey.
This is probably rather confusing without my ideas on how it could be a time loop and how the first scene is kind of the beginning and the end, but hopefully this sentence clears it up a bit lol

I've never actually complained about this before, but I've been rewatching some episodes of Doctor Who.
Specifically, 11, 12 and some of 13's episodes.
I was only watching the ones of 13 that I remembered liking and I legitimately couldn't get through Spyfall Part 2 despite thinking I liked it.
Because of how they treated The Master.
There's a whole bunch of things with the interactions between The Master and The Doctor that are just weird, but more specifically, what I think the issue is.
The people who wrote for Dhawan!Master didn't know Missy existed.
The regeneration chain for that era goes Simm, Gomez, Dhawan but it's written like there's no change between Simm and Dhawan.
Three whole seasons.
And I couldn't get through Spymaster Part 2 especially after the "Master in a form of colour (there's no easy way to phrase that, I'm sorry, believe me, I know how awkward that sounds) joins the fucking nazis and gets a high rank".
I get they had the "perception filter" explanation but look at this reasonably.
Some writer decided "yes, the first time such a major character is a characcter of colour and we're going to make him join the nazis"
eeeeuuuughghghhh
He could be evil and stalk The Doctor without that. It would have been much better that way. Not just for the obvious reasons but also because The Master is supposed to be smart and that would show him being smart.
He's a Time Lord for crying out loud.
So I skipped the end and went to Nikola Tesla's episode because I remembered liking that, though now a little concerned.
Writing this as I watch it, and not so bad.
But.
Again.
Clearly written by people who don't actually know Doctor Who lore.
With such a long series, you can't possibly know everything, but if you're going to bring things up you should at least research said thing.
One of the most common and repeated things about the Silurians, for example.
IS THAT THEY AREN'T ALIENS

About me!
This is easier than making and linking an actual about page
My name's Eden, my main is @killjoygem. I'm pretty new to doctor who fandom but I've been watching Doctor who since 2007 😅 I just started getting into the fandom last year
Faves: Clara, Missy/the Master, Amy, River, the 11th 12th and 13th doctor
Ships: pretty much all of them tbh. I will specify I'm a doctorclara shipper since that tends to be most controversial. My biggest ship is probably thoschei though, and my fave rare pair is the master x clara
Controversial opinions and character tags under the cut
Just getting these out there now to avoid arguments later
I love the 13th doctor, I love her era. It's got its flaws but so does every era
I ship tenrose but i dont hate tenmartha
Like I said, doctorclara (and that's both 11 and 12. At minimum)
I love Amy
I liked The Timeless Children as an episode and don't think it should be retconned, although I am a little upset about losing gallifrey again
Character tags
Eight doctor: narrative chewtoy (8)
Ten: John Smith (10)
Eleven: a cool alien (11)
Twelve: basil disco
Simm!master: saxon
Missy: Queen of evil
Dhawan!Master: agent ohh
14/tenteen: Johnny Smyth (14)

Some Thoughts About My Doctor Who (2005) Rewatch:
-LOVE Nine (always have)
-Rose Tyler the woman you are
-I still think 10 is my favorite and 10 and Rose together are *chefs kiss*
-Can’t lie though they did Martha so dirty
-10 and Donna are everything to me. Tennant and Tate are probably one of the best comedic duos. I still laugh every time I watch their Red Nose Day sketch
-I like the 11th doctor better this time around. I think I was too hung up on 10 to fully appreciate 11 before.
-Capaldi is still the goat. 10 is still my favorite but I love Punk Rock Grandpa. I always thought he was a good doctor with bad writing but actually the writing isn’t that bad. Sure there are some bad episodes but that’s true of any era.
-I actually like Clara a lot more now. I’m still not sold on her in season 11b but her whole time with 12 is genuinely really good. Face The Raven is still one of the best DW episodes of all time. The way that it’s followed up by Heaven Sent is also incredible. That whole season had so many bangers.
-Now 13 is the doctor who is a good doctor with bad writing. I love Whittaker and thought she did an excellent job. I think my biggest issue with Chibnall’s writing is that it doesn’t feel like Doctor Who and feels very disconnected from the rest of the show. Specifically, it feels like a lot of character development from season 10 was forgotten. Especially for The Master.
-Let’s talk about The Master. I LOVED Missy. I found her so complex and interesting and added new layers to Doctor/Master dynamic.
Now I love Sacha Dhawan (He was incredible in The Great) and I think his performance is fantastic and I love his interpretation of The Master but it doesn’t make sense looking at Missy character arc. I know new Regeneration means new personality but each Regeneration is still supposed to have the memories of all the Regenerations before and some feelings carry over. This is true for both the Master and the Doctor and with Chibnall I don’t really see the through line. I understand how much of a challenge this is for the writers, directors, and actors but it was really disappointing to watch Missy’s arc and then then go to DhawanMaster because it felt like that whole thing was totally ignored. There wasn’t even a reference to Bill or the Cyberman ship. It just didn’t feel connected to the previous seasons.
I feel like I could see more of how 11 could regenerate insto 13 than 12 into 13.
And the whole Timeless Child thing. I still hate it. It makes no sense within the context of the show and contradicts so much established lore (from both new and classic who). It makes everything 11 did on Trenzalore pointless. It puts so many plotholes into Clara’s Impossible Girl arc. It doesn’t make sense for motivation for the Master imo. It’s so inconsistent and confusing.
That whole Timeless Child arc really felt like “lets confuse the audience as much as we can” “even if it doesn’t make sense?” “Especially if it doesn’t make sense!”
Now before anyone says “oh well in this issue of the comic” or “In this episode of Big Finish” I haven’t consumed either of those. And personally I think that the continuity and lore of the show should stay consistent within the show and audiences shouldn’t *have* to go to other places for it to make sense.
-About to start season 13. This is the last season I watched before doing this rewatch (i’m showing dw to my partner for the first time) so everything after this season will be new to me which is really exciting!

random q: if you could mix 'n match across all the doc's regens and the master's regens, who would you put together just for the lols? which of them together would you'd love to see interact? which incarnations bring out the best in the other? which of them together would spell 'doom upon the entire universe'? and finally, if it were possible to see a master!actor play any of the doctor regens, which actor as which doctor and why?
For The Lols;
Controversial! But I would put Simm with 13 because i firmly believe that if she saw him again she'd beat him to death with a lawnmower before he even got a word in. And it'd have to be before he got a word in, bc i'd prefer if he didn't talk to her. Would this break time? Yeah. Do I think 13 would care? No. It would also be exceptionally funny to see the look on his face when she goes for him and does not stop. 10/10 would watch with popcorn. 13: eats the laser screwdriver like the pting ate the sonic. Simm: what the Fuck is wrong with you?? i eat humans and i think you're a mess!!!
Missy and 10. She would eat him alive in seconds and it'd be funny to watch. Think your average date between praying mantids. That would be the Mood(tm). Ten has the STartlingly visceral urge to run the hell away but is also exceptionally hot for her and has no idea what's good for him.
This one is also canon to me, but 11 and Dhawan. During the end of 11's run, where he's with Clara. Dhawan is posing as cute O and giving them both doe eyes and flirting shamelessly. They both think he's hot. He is cackling inside at all of this And enjoying a close up view of Missy's matchmaking work.
I think 8 and Dhawan should meet bc it'd be the sluttiest combo and they're both very hot and that's a good enough reason. Peak best enemies (with benefits) regeneration pair.
Delgado and Two. Everything about this would be fun.
would i love to see interact:
I would love to see what would follow between jo martin's doctor and any regeneration of the master. I am still believing she's between 2 and 3, so I think she Does know the master and she thinks they're on good terms. So pairing her with dhawan master would be So juicy.
9 and Dhawan would be good. Both have 'we just destroyed galifrey-itis' and are dealing with it badly. They both have a habit of sharing trauma unfairly with others instead of working through it. It'd be an unmitigated disaster, probably, but it'd be fun specifically for Me so I want it.
bring out the best??
I'm trying to answer this, but like, even when they were flirting with it back in the day they were still best mates who had totally normalized attempted murder as a totally normal friend thing to do. Even without the recent drama and horror I'm not sure any variation qualifies as bringing the best out in each other. Maybe 12 and Dhawan would relate to each other and cry in a bar somewhere instead of violence???
which duo would spell doom upon the universe
Missy and 11. the cold, quiet and knife cutting threat of the both of them. The collateral damage. How much they'd enjoy it all. I can See them in my minds eye, emperor and empress of a grand civilisation, lording over all. Admittedly this is just Missy's fantasy But 11 would find it hot as hell. Absolutely horrifying. I want it.
10 and Dhawan. 10's wet blanket master coping strategies would... End Badly. the master: *does something reprehensible* 10: we should talk this out!!! the master: *does something worse to get a raise out of him because it didn't work the first time*. 10: *cries dramatically in rainstorm instead*. This Master Wants a rise out of the doctor and I don't think he'd get it with 10, and I think he'd keep trying to get one to more and more damage. 13 may be feral and toothy and terrible but she didn't let him get away with anything twice through lack of action.
13 and Missy. It's like Missy and 11 except more teeth. and more blatant homoeroticism. Extra biting. 13 would be really mad that Missy actually enjoyed that part and would desperately try to hide how much She also enjoys the biting. All the while one of Missy's plots is carried out, 13 non the wiser, while they hiss it out like angry cats. Soooo many teeth. Much collateral damage.
Master actor as the doctor;
Dhawan absolutely has the skills to play the doctor and he has the subtlety to play 13's arc. The congeniality but Teeth behind the scenes, away from the companions. The fury and hurt and confusion. He'd have nailed it, frankly. A lot of my 13/master body swap agenda is based around wanting to see them play each others' parts. They could do it so well.
Though, I'd kind of be interested to see how Michelle Gomez would have played the doctor? Because she rarely gets to play the part of somebody not totally evil or just exceedingly wacky? idk, i'd just liked to have seen what she did with it! I know she's said she doesn't mind being cast as certain types of roles predominantly, but i'd be interested to see her play something different just for curiosity's sake, tbh, i'm sure she has the skills for it.
thank you for the ask!

ive only watched season 11 & 12 once so i don’t remember much but did we ever get an explanation for why the masters change from gomez to dhawan was so extreme? like did we ever get ANY closure on missy’s death? Has either of them brought up how missy changed at all?

No messy. No fussy. Just Missy.
Here it is, the long awaited character analysis of Missy a.k.a. ‘the Master’. For reference I will be using information from sources outside the show! Such as ‘The Missy Chronicles’ and detailing’s of the audio stories.
I know this has been a long time coming, but it's here now!
First off, it is impossible to isolate Missy from the Master because they are the same with some physical differences as well as some minor personality differences. So, I must start off with the fact that In general the Master (as a whole) only ever does things that suits their needs and their purposes, or that simply will entertain them. Therefore, there are no differences between Missy and other Master’s OTHER than 1. she identifies as she, 2. she is calmer, more poise if you will.
In the very beginning of Missy’s incarnation, she awoke on a Mondasian Cyber-ship with no recollection of why/how she got there.
What’s in a name?
One of the first things the Master does after a regeneration is go the the Scoundrels (a gentlemen’s club for evil doers such as them-self). At this point Missy hasn’t picked a name for herself, so she is nameless). Upon going to and taking her usual seat, she is met with sexism and thrown out of the club. Of course this makes her angry, so she goes on a journey of revenge. On this journey she meets a woman called Saffron (a freed slave from Southern America during the 1700s); it is here in which Missy picks her name. In conversation with Saffron, Missy mentions she was called ‘Master’ and Saffron says “You’re all masters here [...] even the mistresses,” which piques Missy’s interest and gives rise to her calling herself ‘Missy’ (short for Mistress). Missy recruits Saffron and uses her to help aid her in her revenge à la Master style. She goes on to kill every member of the club. The members she didn’t kill she brought back in time and sold into slavery after releasing some slaves so that she could replace them. (So, yes she freed slaves but we aren’t sure what she actually did with them and there’s almost no way they would have been safe if simply released).
Missy commits the acts of revenge against those who have wronged her. Nothing that could be considered ‘good’ can be equated as good due to her malicious motivations behind them.
Dealings with Gallifrey
Missy’s TARDIS is broken! the Eye of Harmony (EoH) has been shut down, locked by Gallifrey, only to be turned on if she does their bidding. So, Missy is recruited by the General and accompanied by Yayani to sneak into the Kyme institute to stop them from using a creature that has been engineered with “time-and-space-travel capability” and with this type of creature it could cause problems throughout time and space. Disrupt the balance, paradoxes, etc. This creature was also born/created to be pregnant so it had the instinct to survive. After some manipulation of Yayani based on her past and hatred for Rassilon (she tried to kill him -> forced to work for him) she is coerced into killing the Doctor who created this creature. Then as expected Missy releases the creature (not for good reason, sorry) and replaces the Eye of Harmony in her TARDIS with it. She imprisons the creature to power her TARDIS, she is no longer reliant on Gallifrey, and to send a message she kills Yayani via Tissue Compression Eliminator and sending her body to Gallifrey and a message ‘Not your puppet’
The many complexities of Missy
Clara: Initially she manipulated her into calling the 11th Doctor and caused them to meet. Then she places an ad in the paper to keep them together after 11s regeneration into 12. She does this to create the Gallifreyan Hybrid of myth out of the both of them. Missy kills Danny Pink by running him over with a milk float.
Lucy Saxon: Missy tells her that she must shoot Harold Saxon, but keeps the information that Lucy will die to herself. She also requests that the matrix slices Harold had acquired be given to her now for her purposes.
With these slices she creates the Nether sphere where the undying minds go. (3W) The reality altered the minds and removed emotions. Missy uses these to fill Cyber coverted bodies. She creates her army of cyber men and plans on converting all the soon to be dead humans into Cybermen. To prove a point she turns control over the army to the Doctor, she wanted him to take control and use the army to prove that their similarities. Much to her dismay he turns control over to Danny who orders the Cybermen to destroy themselves. Plan foiled, Missy fakes her death in order to escape.
Missy even tries to manipulate children into furthering her causes and schemes to gain power. (’Teddy Sparkles Must Die’) This doesn’t go to plan.
Bottom line is that Missy is very smart calculated and complicated. She manipulates things through time to suit her needs or future needs. There is a constant struggle for power.
Moving on, Missy is put on trial for her crimes and sentenced to death. The Doctor was chosen to carry out the execution, but he faked her execution and decided to put her in a vault instead to guard her body. His goal was for her to realize her wrongdoings and become good. After a long time Missy ends up shedding a tear for all those she had killed/hurt, she also claims that she regrets her actions.
As a test the Doctor has Missy perform maintenance on the TARDIS while he is away. She waits for him. This is 12s cause to free her from the vault. He decides he can trust her. They each contemplate whether or not they can be friends again.
The thing is, the Master and even Missy are no strangers to playing the long game. It’s questionable whether or not her change is really genuine.
Then we come to Missy’s end.
As a test, 12 sends Missy on a test mission to see if she really has changed. She is ill prepared and under her watch Bill is shot and carried off to floor 1056. Missy and 12 went to said floor together. 12 leaves Missy to gather information and she learns the ship is Mondasian. Missy ends up going along with ‘Razor’ (Simm!master) only to eventually claim she was playing him. She quickly admits that she is unsure of her allegiance.
The Doctor tries to convince Simm!master to help him save the people because it is the right thing to do but he doesn’t then in private with Missy, she reveals that she wanted to stand with him and help him but couldn’t. The she leaves with Simm! As they were about to leave Missy stabs Simm! forcing his regeneration into her. Missy reveals to him that she planned on siding with the Doctor which angers him.
By now it’s apparent that she has changed. She leaves to help the Doctor, but it ends up killing her. Simm! shoots Missy. Thus Missy dies. She dies and the Doctor believes she always went back on her change, but really she was just too late.
Missy tries to change for the better. She ultimately wants to stand with the Doctor, finally they end up on par with each other. level ground, standing side by side finally. But she’s too late.
The Master is just to disgusted with the idea of standing with the Doctor on his moral high ground. It’s about bringing him down, not climbing them-self up.
Sidenote: Missy through a complicated event become the Lumiat! Another incarnation who claims to be good as a result of the Doctor’s teaching/influence. She herself tries to be a good influence on Missy. This version foils may of Missy’s plans but ends up having to regenerate because Missy got bored of her. It is after this that we assume that Dhawan!Master comes about.
So, what does this all mean? Is Missy good? Well, no, she is still at the core the Master who is inherently bad. Is the Master capable of change? That really depends on which Master you are talking about. Missy, yes. Simm! no. Dhawan, I also believe no. A calmer more poise Master, yes.
The most tragic of all, is that Missy (and the Lumiat) is a moot point. The Master always goes back to being evil. Dhawan is proof of this, regardless of Missy’s learned lessons or changes they are always meant to go back, their need for power is too strong not to.
This is NOT an ultimate conclusion, this is based on the information we have been given thus far in the Master’s/Missy's history!

"I'm her best enemy" Playlist [ PART ONE - Songs 1 to 30]
Tumblr media
Click READ MORE to see the whole list
1. Nemeses (feat. John Roderick) – Jonathan Coulton I mostly see this as being in the Master’s POV.
“Could it be that you need me To keep you out, to run you faster Promise me you'll let me be The one, the worst of all your enemies”
2. Crazy – Burn the Ballroom 12 to Missy. This one is quite cute. He does calls her mad, but we all know the Doctor isn’t exactly the perfect picture of sanity either.
“She had problems with my love connections So she bought me bullets and she made corrections (…) I'd say crazy, doll, but you've got something different I'd say complicated but that's your kind of rhythm I'd say lost and you'd say love
But you're crazy not to see That you're crazy just like me...”
3. Silence – Citizen Shade This kinda makes me picture the Doctor trying to give in and settle down with the Master (any version) while dealing with the inner conflict that they’re far too cruel for their taste.
“I found peace in your violence Can't tell me there's no point in trying I'm at one, and I've been silent for too long”
4. Dangerous Man - Little Dume This alternates between the Doctor’s POV and the Master’s. But you can also interpret it as being 100% about any version of the Doctor, since they do have a dark side.
“Every bone in my body's bad Fire's burning, the skies are turning black They say I'm a dangerous man” “Can you hear the storm's a coming I'm a silver in the lining There's a spark in me They say I'm a dangerous man Better run fast as you can Don't you look back”
5. Under Covers – LeRiche A bittersweet song about two people who had this precious friendship and love for each other, and about how distance can keep it all bottled up but once they give it a chance, they immediately go right back to the start. Just fits them very well, if you picture a happy ending to their relationship.
“I don't know why you're looking for a friend I'm right by your side But out here from a distance You won't look me in the eyes Without your love, I think I could die Then you let me in, we go back to beginnings When we were just friends hanging out on the ceiling We'll laugh about love and how we felt for one another And I love the way we make up under covers”
6. The Scientist – Coldplay A song about longing to make things right again and with little analogies involving science? I mean…
“Nobody said it was easy It's such a shame for us to part Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be this hard Oh, take me back to the start”
7. Renegades – X Ambassadors The “They actually stole a TARDIS and ran away together from Gallirey” AU we need so much
“Run away with me Lost souls and reverie Running wild and running free Two kids, you and me And I say Hey, hey hey hey Living like we're renegades”
8. Love is War – American Young I like how cute this song is and yet there is a bit of a dark twist. Fits them.
“Sometimes love is all that can save us Sometimes love can kill a man Yeah sometimes love is a soft touch Or a pistol in your hand Sometimes love is a white flag (...) Sometimes a cannon ball But it's worth fighting for Baby, sometimes love is war”
9. Bury a friend – Billie Eilish (Cover by Pomplamoose) Master’s POV. Can apply to any of their regenerations but I think of Simm!Master the most, since Ten tends to run towards him rather than walk away from him.
“What do you want from me? Why don't you run from me? What are you wondering? What do you know? Why aren't you scared of me? Why do you care for me? When we all fall asleep, where do we go?”
10. Come as you are – Nirvana (Cover by Imaginary Future) Best Enemies, everyone. Master’s POV again.
“Come as you are, as you were As I want you to be As a friend, as a friend As an old enemy (…) And I swear that I don't have a gun No, I don't have a gun”
11. Turn – The Wombats Academy!Era, Doctor’s POV. Theta (Doctor) clearly has a crush on Koschei (Master) and they’re both love being chaotic together.
“I like the way your brain works, I like the way you try To run with the wolf pack when your legs are tired I like the way you turn me inside and out I like the way you turn I like the way your brain works Baby, it's the crazy I like I think I saw the world turn in your eyes”
12. Run – Snow Patrol Master’s POV if he was ever able to be honest about his feelings. Some parts can easily be read as the Doctor’s POV too.
“You've been the only thing that's right In all I've done And I can barely look at you But every single time I do I know we'll make it anywhere Away from here”
13. Maps - The Front Bottoms The Doctor’s POV as their relationship deteriorates after the Academy and he plans to steal the TARDIS and leave Gallifrey and his friend behind. I had to help myself from quoting the whole song because IT REALLY FITS SO WELL.
“There is a map in my room, on the wall of my room And I've got big, big plans (…) You say 'I hate you', you mean it And 'I love you' sounds fake It's taken me so long to figure that out I used to love the taste, I would do anything for it Now I would do anything to get the taste out of my mouth (…) "And what about your friends, Don't you love them enough to stay?" And I say, "If I don't leave now, Then I will never get away." Let me be a blue raft on the blue sea, I'll blend right in”
14. Old College – The Mountain Goats This fits the tiresome, sad, manipulative and draining part of their relationship.
“The warning signs have all been bright and garish Far too great in number to ignore (…) Our love has never had a leg to stand on From the aspirins to the cross-tops to the Elavils
But I will walk down to the end with you If you will come all the way down with me”
15. Like a Staring Contest – The Future Kings of Nowhere Covers the end of their friendship and start of the new enemies dynamic.
“I'm so tired of open warfare When the point of this was to be best of friends (…) When you fall in love as hard And recklessly as you and I do It seems that the final act should have The same intensity as the first scene”
16. Poison and Wine – The Civil Wars Reminds me of 12 and Missy but before Series 10.
“You only know what I want you to I know everything you don't want me to Oh your mouth is poison, your mouth is wine You think your dreams are the same as mine Oh I don't love you but I always will”
17. Genesis 30:3 – The Mountain Goats The mentions of a past relationship and the following lines followed by drums really make me picture this as Simm!Master and Ten getting a happy but bittersweet ending.
“For several hours we lay there, last ones of our kind Harder days coming, maybe I don't mind Sounds kind of dumb when I say it, but it's true I would do anything for you”
 18. Blood Under The Bridge – Frightened Rabbit Could literally be any version, but I picture Dhawan!Master and 13 making amends here, mostly because he might be crazy and frenetic but behind that façade he’s clearly way more tired than she ever will be.
“And it's alright, it's alright It's just blood under the bridge And I'm too tired to fight And you're sick of feeling sick And so am I It's alright It's just blood under the bridge”
19. Even Though Our Love is Doomed – Garbage  Missy’s POV. You can interpret this like her train of thoughts and reflections starting from early Vault days to the last time we see her on-screen. Reluctance, guilt and then the resolution.
“Come a little bit closer I need to understand Why we kill the things we love the most (…) Can you love me for what I've become Love me for what I Said that I would not become 'Cause they don't burn like I do (…) And even though our love is doomed And even though we're all messed up You're the only thing worth fighting for” You're the only thing worth dying for”
20. Starlight – Muse 12 and Missy during the episodes World Enough and Time and The Doctor Falls.
“Now I'll never let you go If you promised not to fade away Never fade away Our hopes and expectations Black holes and revelations”
21. Control – Halsey This screams Missy to me, especially since she literally incorporates the character of the evil nanny in her book (The Missy Chronicles) and in Big Finish’s audio dramas.
“I'm bigger than my body I'm colder than this home I'm meaner than my demons I'm bigger than these bones
And all the kids cried out, "Please stop, you're scaring me" I can't help this awful energy God damn right, you should be scared of me Who is in control?”
 22. Enemy – Woodlock End of Academy!Era. Yet another song which reminds me about their early fighting days and the end of their friendship.
This is where it begins At the start of an end I could no longer pretend No more, you walked out the door You’re my enemy
23. Why Can't We Be Friends? – The Academic The title says it all. The lyrics also mention how the relationship is always turning into something new, so I had to associate with the longest friends to lovers to enemies we’ve ever seen on television.
“This world is pointless If you're not here This world is pointless If we're not self-destructing love And it falls and it breaks and it turns into something new And it falls and it breaks and it turns into something”
24. Wish That You Were Here – Florence + The Machine Doctor’s POV, in the days when he regrets leaving Gallifrey for a couple of seconds before turning to occupy his with something else. Because he knows that even if he went back, things aren’t the same and everyone has changed – including him.
“And I never minded being on my own Then something broke in me and I wanted to go home To be where you are But even closer to you, you seem so very far
And it's beautiful but there's that tug in the sight I must stop time traveling, you're always on my mind”
 25. No Light, No Light – Florence + The Machine This one makes me picture the first moment the Doctor realized his friend had changed too much and had to choose between his own feelings and standing for what’s right. This happens A LOT in the show, but I imagine realizing that for the first time was the hardest.
“But would you leave me If I told you what I've done And would you leave me If I told you what I've become No light, no light in your bright blue eyes I never knew daylight could be so violent A revelation in the light of day”
26. Dancing with the Devil – Wolf Gang This alternates between the Master’s POV and the Doctor’s POV.
“If you're the chosen one How does it feel to be loved by no one? If you're the number one Where do you run to? Can you hide behind the sun? You say that there's no oxygen again You're forcing down the lies but you always get your way Something tells me that this was all arranged You tricked me once again”
27. Skeleton Park – Kasador Master’s POV. “You know, back in the day, I'd burn an entire city to the ground just to see the pretty shapes the smoke made” (Missy, in The Lie of the Land, Series 10, Episode 8)
“When the house is on fire Air fills my lungs I satisfy desire From watching all you run Yeah the house is on fire Hear the sirens scream My hands hold the lighter It fits so naturally”
28. Elastic Heart – Longfellow What I love the most about the Doctor (all versions) is how they keep fighting for what is right despite their own feelings being hurt or despite how much it may cause them pain. I love what this character represents, and those lyrics reminds me so much of them.
“Oh why can I not conquer love? And I might have thought that we were one Wanted to fight this war without weapons And I wanted it, I wanted it bad But there were so many red flags (…) Yeah, let's be clear, I'll trust no one You did not break in here I'm still fighting for peace”
 29. Bite Back – The All-American Rejects “You think you've broken me? You'll have to try harder than that” (The Doctor, in The Timeless Children Series 12, Episode 10). Same unbreakable side of the Doctor, but this time she definitively resents it a little more than usual.
“You couldn't break me in the end And such a freedom I enjoy When you're deaf to the sounds you trust If that was all you've got, my friend Then set yourself to disappoint”
30. No Children – The Mountain Goats Listen to me here: this covers the whole “They were married way before they started to hate each other back on Gallifrey” fan theory.
“I am drowning There is no sign of land You are coming down with me Hand in unlovable hand”

Note
1-36 ALL OF EM. ALL OF EM.
THIS IS WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR, BRO. ALL FANDOMS.
1. First ship you remember
Peter Pan/Wendy Darling (Disney’s Peter Pan) is my best guess as far back as I can remember. That’s the original OTP next to Bruce Wayne/Selina Kyle (DCU) and Ariel/Prince Eric (Disney’s The Little Mermaid).
2. Your newest ship
Hmmm,,, I haven’t really watched anything new,,,,,,, but I mean I did get into Geralt/Jaskier (Netflix’s The Witcher) recently. I really like them.
3. Favourite ship ever
STARES LONGINGLY AT PETER/WENDY
I go between them and Mulan/Li Shang (Disney’s Mulan) and Korra/Asami Sato (Avatar: Legend of Korra) and  Yuuri Katsuki/Viktor Nikiforov (Yuuri On Ice) and Arya Stark/Gendry Waters (GOT/ASOIAF)  for my favorite ships of all time
4. Favourite m/f ship
I grew up on the His Dark Materials books and I always was a Lyra Belaqua/Will Parry shipper and that has never ever changed. They’re so sweet. I WOULD LIKE PHILIP PULLMAN TO BRING THEM IN THE NEXT BOOK THAT IS SUPPOSED TO COME OUT. DO NOT FUCK AROUND.
5. Favourite m/m ship
you really can’t wrong with Ash Lynx/Eiji Okumura (Banana Fish) except you can and I don’t care,,,, everyone’s alive and fine and not depressed,,,,,,,
6. Favourite f/f ship
do you know how much my heart broke when they refused to do Emma Swan/Regina Mills (Once Upon A Time) EVEN THOUGH everything in canon said they were True Love????? now I’m just pissed,,,,, I can’t let go of them
7.Most innocent ship
OH GOD,,, KATARA/AANG (AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER). THE FLUFFIEST. THE HAPPIEST. THE SWEETEST BABIES.
8.Most fluffy ship
WHAT DID I LITERALLY JUST SAY???
9.Most angsty ship
good god it’s Clarke Griffin/Lexa (The 100) but I still love them and I know I wasn’t THERE for Lexa dying but I’m STILL livid about what they did and how they treated the LGBT+ community and I’m gonna throw hands,,,, ever since it happened and Clexa is mentioned in the show,,, it’s always so painful,,,,, Clarke is not letting Lexa go and tbh she shouldn’t and I’m gonna get mad again
10. Most smutty ship
Smut is optional, not a requirement for my ships.
11. Ship that you would never have wanted in canon but like in fanworks
I don’t fucking trust MCU so they can have none of my ships!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12. Character that you can only imagine in one ship
BOOOOOOOOOOOOORING.
13. Most shippable character
Merlin (BBC Merlin) and Harry Potter.
14. Character that you can’t imagine in any ship
Any character I don’t like.
15. Favourite poly ship
I love love love love Rey/Finn/Poe Dameron. Finnreypoe. Jedistormpilot. I fell in love with Rey/Finn and Finn/Poe through “The Force Awakens” and then saw in the novelization that there was hints of Rey/Poe Dameron and LATCHED onto it. Don’t even fight me with “The Rise Of Skywalker” because it was COMPLETELY a Jedistormpilot movie and that’s all I was there for. Those three characters.
16. Characters that you kinda ship but prefer as brotp FRIENDSHIP
since I think Katniss might be aroace,,, I wanna say Katniss Everdeen/Peeta Mellark and don’t get wrong,,,, I do ship but more platonic ship
17. Characters that you ship and can’t imagine to be friends
Spike himself said that Buffy Summers/Angel (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) dynamic could never be friends and only friends and he’s right
18. Guilty pleasure ship
GUILT IS CRINGE!! CRINGE CULTURE IS DEAD!!! YOU SHIP THINGS TO YOUR HEART’S DELIGHT!!!!! HAVE FUN!!!
19. Ship that you never expected to ship.
I was straightbaited by Black Sails while watching as it aired and never saw Captain James Flint/Thomas Hamilton coming,,,, or them unburying the gays,,,,, I thought the whole time Thomas and James were sharing Miranda,,,
20. Ship that you liked but don’t anymore
at one point I liked Callum/Soren (The Dragon Prince) but I’m over them and I’m over that show and I don’t support Aaron fucking Ehasz
21. Ship that one day you were thinking of and thought “wait, when I started shipping it?”
I DO THAT LITERALLY WITH EVERY SHIP I HAVE
22. Ship that you immediately fall in love with after one scene despite not considering it before.
aahhhh I saw Toni Topez interact with Cheryl Blossom from Riverdale after their confrontation which was like,,,, the first time they ever spoke to each other,,,, but then the diner scene happened, and now I ship them. And they’re canon.
23. Poly ship that you ship despite not shipping some of the characters in it outside of poly ship.
I only ship Ryn/Maddie Bishop/Ben Powell with each other. That’s it. IT’S A CANON INTERRACIAL LGBT+ SHIP. IT’S REAL. I’M SO HAPPY.
24. Biggest notp
Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon (DCU),,,,, oooh don’t get me fucking started
25. Favourite foe yay ship
L/Light (Death Note). That’s a classic. I know Light made sure his ass was murdered but c’mon,,, c’mon,,,, THE CREDITS TO THE LAST EPISODE THO??? DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT???? THAT WAS GAY AS HELL.
26. Characters that you like in every dynamic (lovers, friends, enemies)
we gotta go with Doctor/Master (Doctor Who),,, they’ve been all three,,,,, nobody can tell me otherwise and that’s the beauty of these two! My favorite versions are 1) Thirteen/Dhawan!Master, 2) Ten/Simms!Master, and 3) Twelve/Missy and if you add Simms!Master with the last one then it’s GOLDEN
27. Ship that you expected to ship before reading/watching franchise and you do
I saw gifs and things of Anne Lister/Ann Walker (Gentleman Jack) before I started watching and I already knew I was gonna fall in love AND I DID
28. Ship that you expected to ship before reading/watching franchise and you don’t
this might be a weird one but I really thought I was gonna ship Victor Van Dort/Victoria Everglot or Victor Van Dort/Emily (Corpse Bride) and I just didn’t for either of them. I DO HOWEVER SHIP EMILY/VICTORIA EVERGLOT.
29. Favourite crossover ship
OHHHHH we gotta go with Kate Kane/Kara Danvers (Arrowverse) like look at them look at the gay it’s like SuperBat but the female millennial version
30. Favourite canon ship
Princess Bubblegum/Marceline (Adventure Time)! I’m overjoyed they are canon! I’m not done watching all of this show but still,,,,, and that means we can get Prince Gumball/Marshall Lee to be confirmed canon too?? Yes??
31. Favourite non-canon ship
I know we can’t like CONFIRM in canon but Frodo Baggins/Samewise Gamgee are in love and there’s no denying this. They’re canon enough to me.
32. Favourite ship for hurt-comfort
All of my ships are good for hurt/comfort and whump. I don’t discriminate.
33. Ship that you ship in one installment of franchise but not in other (for example in movie, but not in the book this movie is based on)
I ship Hannibal Lecter/Clarice Starling in the movies for Hannibal related things, even though Will Graham exists in them, but I ship Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham for NBC’s Hannibal 100% and won’t ship them with anyone else
34. Ship that you never expected to ship when you were younger but here you are
I never expected to ship Harry Potter/Ron Weasley/Hermione Granger all together years down the road,,,,, since as a kid I flip-flopped between Ron/Hermione & Harry/Me,,,, er,,,,,,,,, I mean Harry/My OC That Was Definitely Not Me At All and Harry/Hermione but here we are
35. Ship that you have kinda love/hate relationship with
right now it’s Rue Bennett/Jules Vaughn (HBO’s Euphoria) because they’re so cute,,, they really are,,, but they can be so bad together and I hate that! I just want it to work out but Jules doesn’t understand her own feelings,,, and is kinda fucking around with Rue’s feelings,,,,,, and Rue needs to deal with her drug addiction problems first,,,, but let’s see what happens for Season 2
36. Characters that you can’t decide if you prefer as ship or brotp
okay FIRST OFF we don’t “brotp” anything no more because the term was created with homophobic connotations so replace it with “friendship” and honestly I can’t decide if I like Lucifer/Chloe Decker (Netflix’s Lucifer) as a romantic or platonic ship or somewhere between. I haven’t decided.

A collection of Who fic ideas I cant be motivated to write
SEASON 12 FINALE SPOILERS INCLUDED.
some of these are really shit half-ideas and some are just so bad, im sorry but i need someone to write these bc i suck at writing- ilysm
1. So Clara can’t get back to Trap Street because Gallifrey is gone and I doubt its coming back this time, because they don’t deserve it- but imagine if Clara unknowingly arrived on Gallifrey, saw the destruction and then saw a small gaggle of humans making their way towards the broken citadel and she’s like oya oya I smell a conspiracy- and thus we get Clara there, and are you telling me when she finds out the truth, she isn’t going to smack The Master round the face because he’s the only Time Lord left in the Universe and she needs to get her anger out at them somehow- idk where it goes from here but I think about Thirteen and Clara a lot.
2. The Master is that child on the cliff with the Timeless Child, I’ve seen this idea around and I love it but I have no idea how I’d really write it, I just love the idea and want more people to write this thanks??
3. Angsty plot but imagine if Yaz, Graham and the other two humans got into the Cybersuits and couldn’t get back out? Like the suit took them? Thought oh hey new flesh yum good stuff?? And woops Graham you doylum you accidentally converted the four of yall into Cybermen while thinking yall clever.
4. Someone needs to write Thirteen finding out where she’s from though, and hopefully she finds out her original race aren’t all assholes and she has somewhere she actually belongs. Make it Madagascar 2 style like at first she feels like the odd one out, doesn’t fit in, does something wrong and feels outcasted, scared to be alone again but bOOM she isn’’t and someone is there for her, heck even give her parents or smth, i just want her to belong, to have a family she knows wont leave her after only a few years like all the companions do, someone of her own species who dont age in the blink of an eye like humans- :’) am i trying to redeem myself for all the torture i put thirteen through
5. The prison is Stormcage and River hears about the fact they have a new maximum security prisoner and they are really rare bc sure the universe has lots of psychos but only the worst of the worst land themselves in the block the doctor is in and she’s like hmm I wonder- and boom prison break happens as soon as River finds out who it is and whats just happened to her :’)
6. Dhawan!Master barely escaping Gallifrey with The Doctor, the two forces to escape in the same Tardis since its the only one in range, but he’s been hit ever so slightly by the death particle, enough that his body is forced to regenerate and he becomes Missy and Thirteen is just on shock because OH it all makes sense now- Missy didn’t revert to her old ways, she’d not BEEN Missy yet, and finally there’s some hope in the Dark for Thirteen. Also Thrissy because I’m gay for Thrissy.
7. That 12.9 ending scene but instead of just standing in shock and fear and anger, the Doctor paces over to the smug bitch who just yeeted out of that boundary, slaps him across the face and then snogs the fuck outta him. Thoschei rights. Preach.
8. When The Doctor blows the Matrix, her wiped memories start coming back to her and while in prison she has to experience some of these returning terrors alone, with no comfort. Lots of angst. Make it really dark and sad. Make me sob my heart out.
9. The Matrix takes more energy from Thirteen than she thought and when yanking from Yaz’s hold to go blow up the Master and the Cybermasters, she collapses from exhaustion and is unconscious while Yaz takes her place and sacrifices herself. When Thirteen wakes, its too late and she has to live in a Universe with no Yaz, just even more shit for her to try and process, its all too much.
10. Somehow rumour of the true creation of the time lords gets out among the stars, it suddenly becomes common knowledge, “did you hear about the doctor?” “the time lords experimented on her, as a child, stole her dna for themselves” and “they wiped her memories, forced her to revert to a child” and maybe even “i heard they trapped her in a confession dial for 4.5 billion years-” “wha- 4.5 BILLION years?” and suddenly everyone knows the time lords dirty secret but they also know the fragments of the doctors past, and eventually these rumours reach people who know her well, her friends whom are still among the stars, Bill, Clara and Me, Jack, River, hell anyone you wanted, and these companions are like shit we need to find the doctor?? maybe some of them break her outta prison or?? maybe some stumble upon her after shes reunited with the fam and the fam end up finding out too, after thirteen tries not to let them know too much?? idk?? this one is very ambiguous on details so go with it as you want
11. any form of feral baby thirteen. just anything where she snaps at any point will make me happy. just give me. give. me.

RULES: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Send me an ask with the title that most intrigues you and I’ll post a little snippet of it or tell you something about it! And then tag more people.
So, it's been a bit since I got tagged but first I wasn't able to access my laptop and then I kinda forgot, but now I'm here!
I got tagged by @you-have-to-use-your-imagination, thanks!
Fair warning: I have a lot of wips. And I'm only restricting this to my DW wips because it would get too crowded otherwise. But, well, I don't mind sharing some ideas. So let's do this.
(some of these titles are. interesting. don't mind them, I have a system. no I don't. but it works for me so...)
16. You deserve so much better
A really good title about O and Thirteen please and thank you
And they were prisonmates
Angst I guess
Angst story or something
Baby
Big Friendly Paradox
Ectospleens are such a bother
Eighth Man Bound
Four knocks
Gallifrey burns and the Timeless Child weeps
Ghosts of a past long gone

Have you ever seen a dead planet?
Just one moment of inattentiveness
Messages to O that never got sent (or did they?)
Missy, home alone
Not-so-secret identity
O
Override paradox
Paradox Party
Prison Break Series (ft. 9, 11, 12&Missy&Bill, Dhawan!Master)

Thank you
Thirteen being very angry and screaming at someone
Thirteen meets Twelve and Co.
Three immortals walk into prison
Three dimensions just aren't cutting it
Sh*t, that's a lot...
But yeah, if anyone wants to get some insight, I'd be happy to post some snippets or explain what the hell the story is about (given these titles... it might surprise you!)
Uhhh tagging... Whoever wants to do this I guess? Honestly, I only follow like six people, and I have no idea who follows me (I'm not following you guys back because I'm already overwhelmed with the six people posting stuff! I can't do more right now and I am really sorry. It's nothing against anyone! It's just me.)

Doctor who seasons worst to best go.
Oh like a ranking thing? Okay, I guess mine may be controversial but sure. Gonna assume you mean NuWho because I’m only slowly working my way through classic who.
7: Honestly the reason I stopped watching the show. Almost no episodes I genuinely enjoyed here. I didn’t like the impossible girl plot much and there just seemed to be so much wasted potential.
2: I find Rose pretty irritating in most episodes and I wind up frustrated with how Mickey is treated. School Reuinion is the only episode from this era I really go back to.
1: Same reasoning as before. This one only really pulls ahead because none is funny and I like Captain Jack.
3: I guess I really don’t have much nostalgia for these early seasons because I didn’t watch the show properly at the time? I like Martha as a character but I wind up frustrated with how they treat her a lot of the time. Also I’ve just never been a big fan of the Simm!Master episodes (don’t sue me, they’re just not my thing).
11: This one literally only beats out 3 because I like Thirteen and I get excited about it being set near where I live. Again, a lot of missed opportunities. In fairness it’s the only one of these initial four I ever really go back to for a rewatch.
8: I do really enjoy season 8, and Capaldi is my favorite Doctor by a mile, plus this is the first Missy season which I love. Honestly I go back to this a lot, but it has a lot of episodes I’m meh about (like what was with that one with all the trees??)
5: First season I ever watched properly. Also River Song was my favorite character growing up and I always find these early episodes of hers a lot of fun. Honestly that’s what this season is for me- nostalgic fun.
12: I liked it. I know it’s contentious, but I really do like Thirteen and I think it had some really interesting concepts I hope they run with. Also Dhawan!Master is great here.
4: DONNA NOBLE. I actually can’t believe this is this low- I’m actually a total sucker for just nice platonic friendships with the Doctor, and this season definitely makes me laugh more than most. The finale has the best Dalek reveal ever, the reactions are perfect- also the big companion team up? YES.
9: Again, I love Capaldi. I like the morality dilemma in this season, especially with Ashildr, I think Clara’s death is beautifully handled- honestly I just love it. The magicians apprentice/the witches familiar are my favorite episodes of all time, Missy and Clara have a great dynamic- honestly I love this season so much.
6: This was my season growing up. I saw a good man goes to war so many times as a teenager I could write out River’s monologue from memory, and the same with her ‘you are loved’ speech in the wedding of River Song. I love the weird family dynamics, I love Vastra, Jenny and Strex, I love how Rory’s character develops. I love the Doctor’s wife as an episode, it’s great. Season six is stuck a ridiculous nostalgia trip for me, but I also wholeheartedly enjoy every episode here.
10: I still love Capaldi. I love Bill Potts so much, she’s wonderful. I love that she’s just a curious, optimistic human, it’s such a nice change from the ‘most special person in the universe’/mystery companions. I love the weird found family dynamic of Bill, her space grandad, her weird not-human ex conman uncle, and the evil Mary Poppins cosplayer they keep in the basement. Twice upon a time is my favorite special they’ve ever done. Capaldi also has the best regeneration hands down for me. Heartbreaking.

I’ve been watching a lot of Classic Doctor Who, and that really made me appreciate the history of the show. Some of it has been a hit, some of it has been a miss. It is all a bit dated, some of it is annoyingly a product of its time, and much of it is very poorly paced. Still, though, there are some episodes that are so fantastic, it is a joy to watch. The characters and the actors have really grown on me as well.
Along the way (sorry, season 19, I will come back to you soon), I got distracted with Big Finish stories, and tremendously enjoyed almost all of the stories I’ve heard. Stories with Eights Doctor are a particular highlight. Honestly, we’ve been robbed that he had so few on-screen appearances, Paul McGann provides such a deep and nuanced portrayal. The audios alone are enough to make him my third, possibly second favorite Doctor, and there is a lot of stiff competition near the top.
Exploring his adventures, I jumped over onto the War Master saga. Derek Jacobi is a phenomenal master. He has such a terrifying presence, just the way he breaks people apart mentally, to turn them into tools at his disposal, and then discard them after he is done, it gave me shivers. Delago, Simm, Dhawan are all spectacular in their own right, but the degree to which Jacobi owns the role, it’s indescribable.
After that emotional journey, I decided to, *sigh*, give Missy Big Finish arc a try.
I never had any sympathy for Moffat’s era. I had hopes for it, I was looking forward to it, but ever since the first episode of series 5, I got soured on it pretty quickly. A lot of his ideas didn’t connect with me at the best of times, and actively soured my enjoyment of the franchise at the worst of times, and boy was it frequently at its worst. And Missy... was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back all the way back in series 8, what made me retcon the entire Moffat era out of my memory.
Still, recently, engaging with Series 11 and 12 (and it is such a joy to have new Doctor Who I can wholeheartedly love again), I started engaging with the fandom. And it is undeniable that there are people for whom Moffat era worked. Absorbing what has happened by osmosis, reading their theories, their meta made me feel... a bit excited? Not enough to go back and actually watch what I skipped, mind, I don’t trust Moffat an inch. But, may be, just may be, some of his ideas could work in the hands of more skilled writers?
So, Big Finish. River. Missy. *siiiiiiiigh*
River is also a character who just doesn’t work for me. I haven’t listened to the Diary of River Song yet, but I wouldn’t call her appearance in the Doom Coalition, or the Ravenous to be a particularly high point of those arks. I mean, I suppose, if you have to include her, it was workable, but I none of what I heard sold me on her any more than absolutely necessary.
But Missy just hurts. After listening to Only The Good, Master of Callous, and even Rage of the Time Lords, to Missy... How is this supposed to be the same character? I like the Master - they are seriously messed up, but very compelling character, and definitely a perfect foil for the Doctor. Obviously, some takes stand up more than others, and different actors bring different energies, but there is still supposed to be a core to the character that remains unaltered, the thing that makes the character work on the most fundamental level. And Missy just doesn’t even begin to have it.
Take this, for comparison, the preview of Masterful volume, with 8 different Masters:
youtube
I have issues with some of them - namely Mark Gatiss (Can he just stop appearing in the franchise already? How many roles in it can he possibly want?), the “alternate universe/dimension Master”, he was kind of just meh. I can happily ignore him since he is technically not “our” Master. Unsure about Milo Parker, it’d be his debut, he seems a bit young for the role, but would be something to look forward to, seeing where he fits in. Others are a matter of taste. But Michelle Gomez? It’s bad enough that she has a different name, that instead of the name that gives off the commanding presence of the character, she is being infantilized for her femininity. But they didn’t even let her say The Line that everyone else does, just kind of tacked on at the end, disconnected from all of the rest of them. It’s plain insulting, that’s what it is. I get it, that is her character, as it was presented in the show, that’s how she has to be if she is to remain consistent, and Gomez probably gives her all with what she gets, but she just isn’t the Master. And there is only one person to blame for it.
So, yeesh, still hate Moffat, and everything he ever tried to do with the series with the rage of theta1 Ori C. There may be nuggets of good ideas, but it’s not enough to just build on them, they need to be entirely rewritten from scratch to make them work.
I admit, though, seeing some people complain that Chibnall is supposedly “retconning everything”, and they give example after example of things supposedly “not making sense” that come solely from seasons 5-10, and I do get a bit of a kick. Not only can I continue safely ignoring those seasons, now they also know how it feels.

Finally finished watching the latest season of Doctor Who and here are some thoughts/questions (please bear in mind that I have not seen the Classic Who, and thus the following is based only on New Who)
Where in the Master timeline does Dhawan’s Master fit in? Is he after Missy? Why is there no explanation for how the Master’s back?
On a similar note, why is the Doctor not more surprised or even more reactive at the Master being back?
Both the Spyfalls and the finale lacked the usual tension between the Master and the Doctor. Lacked the complexity of their relationship, because every other time, the Doctor has tried to save the Master, to redeem him/her, but this Doctor seems very okay with the Master’s “death”
On a similar note, this regeneration in general seems very okay with death – in Orphan 55, how is the Doctor reacting so passively to humans dying?
Am I supposed to believe that the Doctor, who would sacrifice their self to save a human in a heartbeat, is okay with Ko Sharmus killing himself? It would do well to remember that Nine died to save one person, Ten died to save one person, Eleven was ready to die to save the universe – and with all this I’m just supposed to believe that the Doctor would not put his life on the line if it meant saving someone else’s?
Am I supposed to believe that the Doctor, who carried the guilt of the Time War, and then who got a chance to save Gallifrey (Day of the Doctor), is ready to destroy Gallifrey all over again without much thought?
In general, I think destroying Gallifrey again just undoes the years of character development after the 50th anniversary special. Hell, it even makes the anniversary special and Hell Bent On the companions’ passivity: did it really take them an entire season to actually ask the Doctor questions about where they come from and why they’re travelling? – questions that we have seen earlier companions ask the Doctor in pretty much the first two/three episodes: Martha did so in Gridlock, Clara never stopped asking, nor did Amy and Rory; hell, even Wilf asked – and he was a companion only for two/three episodes.
Even the Doctor largely feels like a very flat character, and this I’d blame entirely on the writing. There is no complexity, no conflict, no moral crises that mark the Doctor. We rarely see the Doctor being forced to choose from an array of bad options, we rarely see the Doctor being forced to weigh lives, we rarely even see the Doctor for who they really are: a 2,000+ year old creature with that many years’ worth guilt and tiredness.
The thing with there being no difficult choices bothered me the most, because for me that’s been the hallmark of Doctor Who: the Doctor being made to constantly question if they are actually a good person, and trying so hard, always, to do the right thing. Compare this to Twelve in Under the Lake, in Into the Dalek – and in so many others.
Where is the frustration about how the Doctor has done so much for the universe, has lost so much, but they still can’t win? (to be fair, we saw a bit of it in the Haunting of Villa Diodati, but it was all lost because Chibnall never built up the Doctor as the complex character it is). Compare this to Eleven’s frustration in Rings of Akhaten, Ten’s reaction to the Daleks in the Manhattan episode, Twelve’s frustration at not being able to save the entire village in The Girl Who Died.
Why are the companions such flat, one-dimensional characters?
I’m missing the conflict between the companions and the Doctor – these companions don’t seem to remind the Doctor why humans are important; they don’t seem to ‘soften’ her. All three of them are also very okay with death
To go back to the point about companions – none of them in this ‘Team TARDIS’ seem to question the Doctor’s choices. Compare this to Donna in Fires of Pompeii, to Martha in general, to Rose and Nine’s dynamic in Dalek, to Bill’s reaction after the death of a person in The Thin Ice. To be fair to the companions, this has to do with the lack of difficult choices in general.
We don’t see the companions’ characters developing except at moments when it is not furthering the plot. We don’t even see the companions having important lives outside of the Doctor.
Peripheral characters like the humans/aliens on whatever planet or place the ‘fam’ is at don’t feel like people with actual choices either, particularly so in the last episode.
Now to the Doctor being the Timeless Child. This is an entire separate thing for me, but here are the highlights.
I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it either. I think it fundamentally changes the nature of the show, of the Doctor being this ordinary Time Lord. Instead it makes the Doctor inherently special, which was never the point. It undoes the character development we have seen right from William Hartnell’s Doctor to Peter Capaldi (I say this because I haven’t seen the Doctor’s character develop under Thirteen at all). To be clear, I don’t have an issue with the showrunners changing things, as long as these changes add value to the story and as long as these changes don’t fundamentally alter the character of the show - and I don’t think the Timeless Child twist does either. It just feels like it’s there purely for shock value. This plot twist changes everything, but it also doesn’t change much: because even after Thirteen learns who the Doctor is, we don’t see her reacting to the information, or responding to its implications. Furthermore, this trope just gives the Doctor an origin story without answering a ton of questions about the Doctor that we’ve had over these 50-odd years: like the Doctor’s family, or their name, or what the deal with the Hybrid is.To put it very simply, it asks more questions to answer questions.
If by being the Timeless Child, it essentially means that the Doctor has infinite regenerations, then it also lowers the stakes in the show, because now the Doctor can sacrifice themselves at any time and it’ll all be okay because they can’t really die. This also makes all the sacrifices others have made for him – Rose, Donna, River, Clara, Bill – meaningless because really the Doctor could’ve saved themselves at any of these times.
In general, both season 11 and 12, although fairly enjoyable, haven’t added anything of value to the larger story that’s been developing for so many years now, and that just sucks, because there is so much they could’ve done.
