I wanted to try out that 2006 versus 2016 redraw challenge, but I’m not entirely sure when the left image was made. I did find some drawings from 2006, so I’m estimating that this one was done around 2004-2005 because I was(am) bad at dating my drawings. So this is over 10 years of improvement by an art hobbyist. I barely drew during the 4 years of my degree, but I don’t feel like I’ve entirely stagnated during that time. It’s neat to see the improvement and to see that I’ve improved at my own pace. I have time for drawing again, so I’m very interested to see where I’ll be at in 10 more years.

Bài báo của tác giả Kate O’Neil trên Wired cho rằng phong trào đăng ảnh so sánh 10 năm là do Facebook thao túng nhằm thu nhập dữ liệu người dùng.

Hôm 17/1, Facebook đăng dòng tweet “kêu oan” cho rằng mạng xã hội lớn nhất thế giới không hề thao túng người dùng hay đứng đằng sau trào lưu đăng ảnh 10 năm về trước. Mạng xã hội nhận xét trào lưu trên hoàn toàn vô hại và sẽ lụi tàn như những hiện tượng mạng khác.

“Thử thách đăng ảnh so sánh 10 năm trước với hiện tại là do người dùng tự khởi tạo. Chúng tôi hoàn toàn không can thiệp. Trào lưu là bằng chứng cho thấy người dùng vẫn vui v��� khi sử dụng dịch vụ của Facebook”, Facebook đăng trên trang Twitter chính thức.

Sau khi bài viết của Kate O’Neil đăng trên Wired xuất hiện khắp các phương tiện truyền thông, phát ngôn viên của Facebook trả lời Wired rằng người dùng chỉ sử dụng những hình ảnh từng tồn tại trên nền tảng để thực hiện thử thách.

“Facebook không hề thu lợi gì từ chiến dịch mạng này cả. Người dùng có thể chọn bật/tắt tính năng nhận diện khuôn mặt bất kỳ lúc nào”, phát ngôn viên của Facebook nói.

Trong một động thái nhằm bênh vực Facebook, Ryan Broderick, phóng viên trang BuzzFeed cho rằng những thử thách đăng ảnh so sánh quá khứ/hiện tại đã từng xuất hiện rất nhiều trên Internet nói chung, Facebook nói riêng.

Trào lưu đăng ảnh 10 năm chỉ là được “đào lên” và nhận được nhiều sự chú ý hơn. Ryan Broderick đưa ra những hashtag về 2 trào lưu đăng ảnh gần nhất là #2008vs2018 và #2006vs2016. Theo CBS News, cùng với sức bành trướng và ảnh hưởng của Facebook, việc người dùng lo ngại cho thông tin bảo mật của họ là điều nên làm.

“Những trào lưu mạng kiểu này dù vô tình hay không đều cung cấp cơ hội cho Facebook rèn luyện hệ thống của họ để có thể nhận diện những thay đổi nhỏ nhất”, Amy Webb, giáo sư tại Trường Đại học Kinh tế NYU Stern School trả lời CBS News.

Theo Dailymail, những scandal rò rỉ thông tin cá nhân người dùng mà Facebook mắc phải làm gia tăng nỗi nghi ngờ về trào lưu trên. Công nghệ nhận diện khuôn mặt đang trên đà phát triển lại dấy nên nhiều nỗi lo về an ninh, bảo mật an ninh cá nhân sẽ không được đảm bảo.

Cụ thể, Rekognition, dự án nhận diện khuôn mặt của Amazon vấp phải làn sóng phản đối từ các nhóm hoạt động vì nhân quyền. Công ty thương mại điện tử lớn nhất thế giới bị buộc phải dừng cung cấp dịch vụ bởi Liên minh Tự do Dân sự Mỹ.
