Help A Trans Family Making A New FOSS Internet Keep The Lights On
Hi, I'm Agie, me and my wife along with some friends are working on a new internet (you can read more about it at https://piermesh.net and at the #piermesh tag on @utopicwork ). Personally I'm also working on a terminal graphics library (including the ability to livestream into a terminal), a 3D engine, a cheap easy to make linux handheld and more. Unfortunately funding is hard to come by (though im ever grateful for the funding we do get) so we need help to stay afloat. At the moment we need help covering electricity back pay. Please help some disabled trans women and a cute cat out.

Ford 302 Windsor
The Ford 302 Windsor, also known as the 5.0L, is one of the most iconic and versatile small-block V8 engines ever produced by Ford. Introduced in 1968 as a stroked version of the earlier 289 V8, the 302 became a mainstay in Ford’s lineup for decades, powering everything from Mustangs and F-150s to Broncos and Fairlanes. It earned a reputation for its compact size, ease of modification, and broad aftermarket support, making it a favorite among hot rodders and performance enthusiasts.
Displacing 302 cubic inches (4.9 liters, though commonly rounded to 5.0L), the engine features a 4.00-inch bore and a 3.00-inch stroke. Early carbureted versions produced modest horsepower—typically around 220 to 240 hp in high-performance trims—but by the 1980s and 1990s, the fuel-injected 5.0L in the Mustang GT became a modern performance icon. The engine gained a cult following in the Fox-body Mustang era, and its simplicity and durability have kept it alive in restomods, kit cars, and custom builds well into the 21st century.

Trouble in paradise
Pairing: Max Verstappen x PewDiePie!sibling Summary: What if Felix had a genius brother who works as a RedBull's engineer and is also secretly dating Max part 20 of A Calm to my Storm Masterlist
Twitter Thread Pt 1: "Sam Kjellberg calming down the entire Red Bull garage like it’s no big deal 🏎️💥"
1. Video: Sam and Christian walking fast through the garage
The video starts with Christian Horner looking visibly stressed, pacing quickly through the Red Bull garage while Sam keeps up beside him, one hand in his pocket, other waving around as he was talking, looking calm as ever. You can hear Christian’s concern in his voice:
Christian: "But we haven’t even tested that, Sam. How can you be sure it’s going to work?"
Sam, completely unfazed: "Christian, I promise you, this will work. 100%. Just trust me. If I wasn’t sure, I wouldn’t have let it be installed in Max's car."
They reach a group of mechanics standing nervously by Max’s car. What they are saying can't be heard in the video anymore. Sam immediately steps up to the car, explaining the adjustments he made and showing them exactly what he did. The mechanics, at first tense, gradually start nodding and visibly relax as Sam goes into detail about the new feature.
Christian, still slightly worried, spots Max walking by and calls out to him: "Max, come here. Sam’s made some adjustments to the car. You should hear this."
Max just waves it off as he keeps walking to his driver's room, shouting back casually: "Nah, it's fine. I have to meet with Gemma. I trust Sam. He knows what he’s doing!"
The video ends with Sam giving a final confident nod to the mechanics, who seem way less anxious by the end.
Comments:
User 278: "Sam out here managing the Red Bull garage and Christian like it’s nothing. Man’s a genius."
User 279: "LMAO Max walking off like ‘yeah, whatever, Sam’s got this.’ That’s trust right there."
User 280: "You can literally see the relief on the mechanics’ faces as Sam talks them through it. GOAT energy."
User 281: "Sam giving Christian a heart attack but being so calm the whole time 😂"
User 282: "The way Max didn’t even question it. Just walked off like ‘yep, I’m winning today because Sam knows his stuff."
User 283: "Christian’s stress levels vs. Sam’s chill levels in this video is sending me."
User 284: "They should start calling Sam ‘Mr. Fix-It’ in the paddock. Everyone trusts him."
2. GIF of Sam high-fiving a mechanic post-race
A fan shares a GIF from a post-race moment where Sam and one of the mechanics celebrate after Max finishes on the podium. Sam looks excited but still in his usual calm manner, giving the mechanic a solid high-five.
Comments:
User 285: "Sam’s always so low-key but you can tell how hyped he gets when Max does well."
User 286: "Engineer of the year. No question."
User 287: "That calm excitement? I respect it. He’s not screaming, but you know he’s proud of what he’s done."
User 288: "Sam really be like ‘yeah, I helped Max win today. No big deal."
3. Clip from a team radio of Max thanking Sam
A fan shares a clip from a race where Max, in the cool-down lap, thanks Sam on the team radio:
Max: "The car was amazing today. Great work, guys. GP please tell Sam that whatever he and his guys did need, keep doing it."
You can hear GP quietly chuckle at something in the background as he responds: "You’ve got it, Max. Sam says thanks for not crashing his baby. Same next weekend?"
Max: "Absolutely, OUR baby is safe in my hands. Same again next week."
Comments:
User 289: "Max really said 'No, that is my car too bitch', OUR BABY!!"
User 290: "That’s the cutest team radio exchange ever. Max knows who the real MVP is."
User 291: "Sam’s calm energy even over the radio. Legend."
User 292: "Imagine being so good that Max Verstappen is like, ‘keep doing what you’re doing.’ The absolute dream."
4. Pictures of Sam and Max laughing during a debrief
A candid photo of Sam and Max sitting next to each other during a post-race debrief, both laughing at something on the screen in front of them. Max is pointing at something on the monitor while Sam leans back, grinning widely. Second picture taken from behind Christian Horner's back, Sam and Max sitting in chairs in what looks like a meeting room, sides pressed together, from knees and thighs to them both basically leaning on each other, big content smiles on their faces as they watch Christian talking with the whole team.
Comments:
User 293: "Max and Sam during debriefs are the best. You can tell they’re more than just colleagues."
User 294: "The way Max looks at Sam when they’re talking about cars. You know he respects him so much."
User 295: "I love that they can be serious about racing but also have fun like this."
User 296: "I love how you can see that Christian knows they are not listening to him but isn't doing anything because he knows he has nothing to worry about. They work hard but also enjoy every moment."
User 297: “I just love how happy and comfortable they both look in the last photo. I can promise you that in no other team a driver and a mechanic are so close as those two are”
5. Another clip from a press conference featuring Max hyping up Sam
A fan shares a press conference clip where a journalist asks Max how it feels to have an engineer who is quickly becoming a fan sensation, thanks to social media and the clips of him working in the paddock. Max grins widely:
Max: "Yeah, Sam’s great. Fans love him because he’s a genius and…well, you’ve seen him. He’s a... cool... guy."
The journalist presses on, mentioning the viral clip of Sam calming down Christian Horner in the garage. Max laughs: "Oh yeah, Christian was freaking out. But Sam always knows what he’s doing. He keeps us all calm. If Sam is nervous then it's a problem. Luckily for me and Red Bull that has not happened yet. And it hopefully, won't ever happen."
Comments:
User 298: "Max constantly hyping Sam up. It’s adorable."
User 299: "Max is his biggest fan and we love to see it."
User 300: "The way he just laughs when talking about Sam like they’re besties. SO CUTE."
User 301: "Max and Sam are the real power duo in F1."
User 302: “If Sam panics then it's time to panic. Luckily that hasn't happened yet. And it hopefully won't.' I LOVE MAX TALKING ABOUT SAM”

Chill S/O With a Daughter
Words: 289
Request: I want to make a suggestion for Sniper, Engineer and Soldier. The mercs has a chill s/o who already has a child. It’s a 8 year old girl who is very creative :)
Honestly, he’s so glad that you’re chill.
He can barely deal with the other mercs as it is, so you’re a much needed breath of fresh air.
While he’s never been the biggest fan of children in general, yours is alright. (Absolutely, silently adores her.)
If she’s the creative artsy type, he’ll try to bond with her by getting her plenty of art supplies that he can get his hands on. (Always has a small stash hidden in his van.)
She prefers music? Won't buy her an instrument, instead getting her small accessories, bits for the instrument and attends her shows (Whether they're held at school or at home.)
He absolutely adores your daughter. (He loves you as well, don’t worry.)
Has always been the ‘fatherly’ type of man, so she loves him just as much as he loves her.
Will always encourage her creativity the most. (Would be so excited if she was interested in engineering / anything mechanical)
You match him so well with being chill (Lets you both hang around his workshop all the time)
Just for you and your daughter, he’ll willingly take days off, (Sadly not too many) to spend with you both.
Please don’t let this man be around your daughter alone, this man is so stupid yet creative as well. (It’ll only end terribly as he influences her.)
Whether or not she actually joins him on… whatever he does, he loves her with all his might.
You being chill and his s/o doesn’t get you out of working out, but you (And your daughter) aren’t forced to everytime. (He will carry you two over his shoulders.)
Even if he never admits it, you’re a great match for him, truely balancing him out.

150 Ford Galaxie 500 (3rd Gen) 2 door Hardtop (1967) YTA 830 E by Robert Knight Via Flickr: Ford Galaxie (3rd Gen) 2 door Hardtop (1965-68) Engine 352 cu in (5800cc) FE V8 Registration Number YTA 830 E (Devon) FORD USA SET www.flickr.com/photos/45676495@N05/sets/72157623789312836.. The Galaxie was an all new design for the 1965-68 model years , featuring vertically stacked dual headlights in what was becoming the fashionable style in a car somewhat taller and bulkier than the previous year's. Suspension on the 1965 models was dramatically redesigned. Replacing the former leaf-spring rear suspension was a new three-link system, featuring all coils. Not only did the ride improve, but handling also got a boost, and this system was used for NASCAR in the full-size class. Interiors were like the 1964 models, but a new instrument panel and two-way key system were introduced. The 1966 model had a slight coke-bottle design and new horizontally split grille among other small changes. For 1967 all Fords featured a large, padded hub in the centre of the plastic steering wheel, along with an energy-absorbing steering column (introduced late into the 1967 model year),padded interior surfaces, recessed controls on the instrument panel, and front outboard shoulder belt anchors. Another safety related change was the introduction of the dual brake master cylinder used on all subsequent Galaxies (and other Ford models). 1968 saw a new grille with headlights arranged horizontally, although the body was essentially the same car from the windshield back. The long hood short rear deck style with a more upright roofline and a notchback rear was followed too, as was the new trend for concealed headlights on the XL and LTD. One other change for 1968 was that the base V8 engine increased from 289 cu in (4.7 L) to 302 cu in (4.9 L)..The 1968 models featured additional safety features, including side marker lights and shoulder belts on cars built after December 1, 1967. On September 26th 1934 the Liner Queen Mary launched at John Brown’s shipyard, Clydebank.
The construction of still the unnamed Cunard Queen Mary ship began in December 1930 (the ship’s keel was laid down on 31 January 1931) in the yard of “John Brown & Co” at Clydebank. The launch was scheduled for May 1932, but the work on the ship was suspended in December 1931 due to the world economic depression. A loan of 9.5 million pounds from the Government was granted to the Cunard Line with enough money to complete the Queen Mary ship and to build a second liner – the Queen Elizabeth.
As a direct result of this most advantageous deal, the Cunard Line merged with its main rival White Star on 10th May 1934 into Cunard White Star Ltd. The Queen Mary construction resumed in April 1934, the liner was completed by August and launched on 26th September at a total cost of 3.5 million pounds sterling.
The work was completed in March 1936. The Queen Mary ship sailed out for preliminary trials and after being painted in Southampton, the liner was handed over to Cunard White Star Line on 11th May 1936. RMS Queen Mary ship first sailing was on 14th May with its Transatlantic itinerary being Southampton-Cherbourg-New York. By May 1937 the liner had carried a total of almost 57,000 passengers.
The main speed-rival of the QM ship was SS Normandie – a liner built in France and operated by the French Compagnie Generale Transatlantique line. The Queen Mary took the Blue Riband (the prestigious award given to a ship with the speed record for a transatlantic crossing) from the French liner SS Normandie in August 1938, with record speeds for both west- and eastbound crossings of the Atlantic Ocean – the average speeds was, respectively, 30,63 kn (35m25 mph, 56,7 km/h) and 30,14 kn (34,68 mph, 55,82 km/h).
In 1937, the Normandie liner was refitted with new propellers, enabling her to take the Blue Riband, but in 1938 the Queen Mary ship reclaim the honour for best speeds in both directions – westbound 30,99 kn (35,66 mph, 57.39 km/h) and eastbound 31,69 kn (36,47 mph, 58.69 km/h). This record was beaten by the SS United Sates liner in 1952.
The last commercial sailing of the ship Queen Mary was on 30 August 1939 departing from Southampton and then berthed at New York until the end of 1939. With the outbreak of the Second World War, she was converted into a troopship and ferried Allied soldiers for the duration of the war.
Following the war, Queen Mary was refitted for passenger service and along with Queen Elizabeth commenced the two-ship transatlantic passenger service for which the two ships were initially built. The two ships dominated the transatlantic passenger transportation market until the dawn of the jet age in the late 1950s. By the mid-1960s, Queen Mary was ageing and, though still among the most popular transatlantic liners, was operating at a loss.
After several years of decreased profits for Cunard Line, Queen Mary was officially retired from service in 1967. She left Southampton for the last time on 31 October 1967 and sailed to the port of Long Beach, California, United States, where she remains permanently moored. Much of the machinery, including one of the two engine rooms, three of the four propellers, and all of the boilers, were removed. The ship serves as a tourist attraction featuring restaurants, a museum and a hotel. The ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has accepted the Queen Mary as part of the Historic Hotels of America.
RMS Queen Mary remains in Long Beach but recently it has been reported it is in need of significant repairs according to assessments and photos in 2019 and 2020. An estimated $289 million in repairs are needed after years of decline and the most recent operator going bankrupt. But even to “retire and recycle” the liner could cost up to $190m. One of the suggestions are to dismantle and sink the liner, although no long term plans have been finalised as yet.
The Queen Mary is due to open again to visitors next month, let’s hope someone can come up with a rescue plan to save her.
It has been mooted that it could return to the Clyde but the eyewatering amount of money it would take surely rules this out.

The Ford 289 engine is a legendary small block V8 that cemented its place in motorsport history, powering the Shelby Daytona Coupe to win its class twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the mid-1960s.
With its 4.00-inch bore and 2.87-inch stroke, the 289 was compact, lightweight, and high-revving—perfect for endurance racing. It produced remarkable performance, allowing the Daytona Coupe to challenge European giants on their home turf.
Building on the 289’s success, the 302 version of this engine carried Ford to even greater glory. It powered the iconic GT40 to back-to-back overall victories at Le Mans in 1968 and 1969, showcasing the engine's reliability and power over grueling 24-hour races.
With a slightly longer stroke of 3.00 inches, the 302 delivered a perfect blend of durability and speed, solidifying Ford’s dominance in international racing.
These engines weren’t just powerplants—they were marvels of engineering that helped define the golden era of motorsport. The 289 and 302 are forever linked to Ford's triumphs at Le Mans, a feat that still resonates as one of the most dramatic underdog stories in racing history

The Forgotten Mach 2: Ford's 1967 Mid-Engined Mustang Prototype

The Forgotten Mach 2: Ford's 1967 Mid-Engined Mustang Prototype
In the Swinging Sixties, Ford's promotional photo featured a stylish couple beaming with joy as they prepared to take a ride in the Mach 2, essentially a mid-engined Mustang. This sleek, closed coupe boasted a 289 V8 engine, ZF 4-speed transaxle, and amenities like a radio and heater.
"Wait a minute", you may be thinking, if you're old enough to remember the Sixties, or if you've been reading this blog for awhile. "Wasn't there a mid-engined Mustang before there was any other kind?" Well, yeah, there was a drivable concept car based on the front-drive German Ford Taunus V4 powertrain, the Mustang 1*, but that was in 1962, and the roofless projectile seemed to be aimed mostly at SCCA racers ...
The Mach 2's story began in 1966, when Ford's Total Performance program aimed to infuse the GT40's mid-engined glamour into a production car. A Mustang convertible chassis was transformed into a concept chassis by Kar Kraft, incorporating Mustang front suspension, front disc brakes, and Galaxy rear drums. The independent rear suspension was borrowed from engineer Klaus Arning's patented multi-link design for Mustang 1.
Two running prototypes were built, with fiberglass bodies styled by Gene Bordinat's team. The first, a white car intended as an SCCA-ready weekend racer, suffered from chassis flex, while the second, a red example, had a reinforced chassis. The red Mach 2 was showcased at auto shows and featured in car magazines.
With a 107-inch wheelbase, similar to the new Corvette C8, and a weight of around 2,600 pounds, the Mach 2's performance was lively. Ford envisioned pricing it around $7,500, slightly above the Shelby AC 427 Cobra.
However, the Mach 2 program was ultimately scrapped. Ford's success with the Mustang and Shelby's modified versions meant that the Mach 2 was relegated to the sidelines. The white test car was crushed, and the red prototype was returned to Kar Kraft, disappearing from public view.
Rumors of the red Mach 2's fate have persisted, with some speculating that it may still be hidden away, waiting to be rediscovered. The possibility of finding this forgotten prototype has captivated car enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into an alternate history of American automotive innovation.

1967 Ford Mach 2

1967 Ford Mach 2

1967 Ford Mach 2
The 1967 Ford Mach 2 was a mid-engine sports car concept that was never mass produced. It was a two-seater with a GT style, low-sloping hood and front fenders, with a body made of fiberglass. Ford built the first one which was based on a shortened version of the 1966 Mustang convertible floor pan. Two more were built by Kar Kraft based on 1967 Mustangs and powered by a 289ci high performance engine mounted in the middle of the car. It had a five-speed manual transmission, independent rear suspension, and adjustable pedals derived from the 1962 Mustang-I.
Two fully functional prototypes were built:
• Red prototype: The production car candidate, with a revised engine cradle, adjustable Koni shocks, and a redesigned front end
•White prototype: A development mule for racing, with a modified 289, competition-spec components, and a lighter fiberglass body.
The Mach 2 was extensively tested, but the results were not encouraging. The road car handled well, but generated too much body roll at high speeds. The race car's chassis was not stiff enough, distorting under heavy loads. By the fall of 1967, Ford's designers had shifted their focus to the Mach 2A, and the three Mach 2 prototypes were left with Kar Kraft for disposal.

1936 Cord 810 Westchester Sedan - ACD Museum, August 2023
Josh Malks was an ambassador of the Cord automobile and shared its virtue with the rest of the world. Malks, an avid world traveler along with his wife Betty, drove this Cord to the coast of California and to the shores of the Dead Sea. Its mileage currently stands at 115,000. This Cord has roamed the lands of North America, Europe and the Middle East. From the front seat of his Cord, Malks was able to view the world unlike many others. The given name of this Cord 810 Westchester Sedan is “Moonshadow,” due to its distinguished silvery-blue finish and the original blue English Broadcloth interior. It has been highly praised and recognized in several car shows. In its November 2002 issue, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the American automobile, Forbes’ American Heritage magazine chose the Cord 810 as “The Single Most Beautiful American Car.” RESTORING MEMORIES Josh Malks was a well-known historian and Cord automobile ambassador who drove this Cord, named Moonshadow, worldwide. Unfortunately, after his donation of the car to the ACD Museum, the engine block side plates were discovered to be cracked and the engine was un-drivable, a fate not uncommon for Cord engines and old metallurgy. In conjunction with several benefactors, the museum underwent a complete engine rebuild and returned the storied Cord back to running order.
SPECIFICATIONS Model: 810 Westchester Sedan Wheelbase: 125 inches Engine: Lycoming V-8, L-head, cast iron block, aluminum cylinder heads Transmission: Pre-select four-Speed Displacement: 289 cubic inches Horsepower: 125 at 3,600 rpm Weight: 4,000 lbs. Price When New: $1,995

They were finally going to leave the base after grueling days after dealing with the breach and making sure it was safe to. He was still suspicious, but he had to hold it in as he made his way to the jet. “McAllister.” he nods to the younger pilot, pointing to the large aircraft “How’s she lookin’?”
McAllister, standing by the jet, immediately saluted Rooster, trying to hide how startled he was. "Sir, she's prepped and ready to go. All systems are green, and the maintenance checks have been thorough. We've double-checked everything after the breach incident. Should be smooth sailing."
Rooster studied the jet, a mixture of trust and wariness in his eyes. The recent security breach had heightened his vigilance, and he wasn't about to take any chances, especially when it came to the safety of his team.
"Good work, McAllister," Rooster acknowledged, clapping a hand on the younger pilot's shoulder. "I appreciate it. Let's get everyone on board and take off as soon as possible. Anything else I should know before we take off?"
"Just the standard pre-flight briefings, sir. Weather conditions are optimal for the route. All necessary supplies are loaded, and the communication systems are in top shape. We've also received the latest intel updates, and everything seems clear."
Rooster acknowledged the information with a curt nod. "Keep an eye on the communication channels. I want to be informed of any anomalies or irregularities immediately. And McAllister, if anything feels off, even the slightest bit, you let me know, understand?"
McAllister’s blue eyes widened "U-Understood, sir. I'll keep you informed of any changes," McAllister affirmed, his gaze focused and determined…and one quick salute thrown his way,one that Rooster nodded off.
As Rooster turned to make his way towards the jet, he felt a presence approaching from behind. Phoenix walked up with a confident stride, helmet tucked against her waist. "Rooster, everything set for departure?"
Rooster met Phoenix's gaze,"Yeah, we're ready to go Nat. Keep an eye on the navigation systems and stay vigilant. I want everyone on high alert until we're clear of any potential risks."
Phoenix nodded, a serious expression settling on her features. "Got it. Me and Bob are ready…" she pauses, “Brad.”
First name basis.
Serious talk.
She lowers her voice, “...should we…” she flicks her gaze to the side once they were left alone, “Be aware of something else? On the way up?”
Rooster glanced around, ensuring that their conversation wouldn't be overheard. The wind whistled softly, carrying the distant sounds of the base and the hum of the jet's engines.
"You mean aside from the usual protocols and the security breach?" Rooster raised an eyebrow, signaling for Phoenix to proceed.
Phoenix hesitated for a moment, her gaze fixed on the jet. "Yeah, I mean, it's just... something doesn't sit right with me. After the breach, after the rumors, I can't shake the feeling that there's more to this mission than what we've been told."
Rooster sighed, his shoulders tense and high. "I've been feeling the same way, Nat. The breach, the rumors, it's all adding up to something I can't quite put my finger on. But we need to be cautious and discreet about how we handle this. We can't let paranoia compromise the mission." he looks back to the others, “Are the others–”
“They are fully aware too.”
“Good.” he looks back at McAllister who will be his co-pilot once again, “Let’s get ready, comms open, got it?”
The atmosphere inside the jet was of an anticipated readiness, like they were all ready to do this. Rooster took his seat in the cockpit, adjusting the controls with practiced precision. Beside him, McAllister focused on his tasks, running through the pre-flight checklist.
"Bob, Phoenix, make sure you've got a clear view of the navigation systems. We need to stay on course, and I want real-time updates on any changes," Rooster instructed over the intercom, his voice calm and authoritative.
"Copy that, Rooster," Bob's voice crackled through the communication system.
He nods, even if they couldn’t hear, turning his head towards McAllister “All good?”
McAllister nodded, his hands steady on the controls. "All systems are green, sir. Ready for takeoff on your command."
Rooster acknowledged with a firm nod. "Good. You keep an eye on the sensors. I want to know if anything comes up, no matter how small. Guys, stay vigilant on communications. We need to know if there are any unusual activities."
The jet's engines roared to life, the sound echoing across the airstrip. Rooster guided the aircraft smoothly down the runway, the anticipation building with each passing second. The night sky stretched above them, a canvas of stars and darkness.
As they ascended into the sky, the tension inside the cockpit mirrored the uncertainty that hung over the mission. Rooster's mind raced with thoughts of the breach, the rumors circulating among the team, and the unshakable feeling that something was amiss.
Phoenix's voice broke through the cockpit's intercom. "Rooster, sensors are clear for now. No anomalies detected."
"Good. Maintain alertness," Rooster replied, his eyes scanning the instrument panel. The hum of the jet and the distant whir of the engines formed a rhythmic backdrop calmed him down immensely “Hangman?”
“All good here too.” Jake replies “Nothing weird going on.”
The jet sliced through the night sky, its powerful engines propelling it forward into the darkness. Rooster maintained a focused demeanor, his hands steady on the controls.
Phoenix's voice echoed through the intercom. "Rooster, all systems are stable. We're on course, and sensors are still clear."
Rooster acknowledged with a terse nod, his gaze shifting between the instrument panel and the expanse of stars outside.
As the minutes ticked by, the tension within the cockpit intensified. The team remained vigilant, each member fulfilling their assigned roles with precision. Rooster, acutely aware that one pilot hasn’t talked to him yet.
“Mark?” he asks “How are things on your end?” he tries to forget how Mark acted earlier, thinking it’d only be stress…nothing more
There was a brief pause, a moment where the only sound in the cockpit was the steady hum of the jet's engines. Rooster's gaze lingered on the communication panel, awaiting Mark's response.
"Mark, do you copy?"
Finally, Mark's voice crackled through the intercom, its tone guarded. "Yeah, I'm here, Rooster. Everything's fine on my end. Just focusing on the mission."
He glared down at the intercom, then inhaled. Something in his tone was…off. The air inside the cockpit seemed to thicken, an unspoken tension hanging in the space between them.
"Good to hear. Stay sharp, everyone," Rooster instructed, his voice firm. The jet soared through the night, a silent arrow cutting through the darkness. He looks outside for a brief second and all he could see was the ocean. “McAllister?”
“Sir?”
“Hit me with the updates, what have you got?”
"Sir, we're approaching the designated coordinates. No signs of any unusual activity or potential threats so far. All systems are functioning within normal parameters."
Rooster nodded, his eyes narrowing as he scrutinized the navigation display. "Good work, McAllister. Keep a close eye on the sensors. We need to make sure we're not walking into anything unexpected."
"Understood, sir. Monitoring sensors closely," McAllister affirmed.
As the jet continued its steady course over the vast expanse of the ocean, Rooster couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that lingered. The tension within the cockpit, especially with Mark's guarded response, was palpable. Rooster's mind raced, considering the implications of the breach and the possibility of internal threats.
He decided to address the elephant in the room. "Listen up, everyone. We've had a breach, and I need to be certain that everyone on this team is committed to the success of this mission. If there's anything anyone needs to share or any concerns, now is the time to speak up. Our safety and the success of the mission depends on it."
The cockpit fell into a tense silence. Rooster could almost feel the weight of unspoken words, the hesitation that hung in the air.
“Anything?”
More silence.
“Good.” he sighs, rolling his neck, “Remember, it’s mainly scouting right now, keep an eye out everyone.”
The jet continued its journey through the night, slicing through the air with a purpose that belied the tension within. The team, each member locked into their roles, navigated the dark expanse with a heightened sense of awareness.
Rooster's mind, however, remained fixated on the unspoken dynamics within the cockpit. The breach had cast a shadow over the mission, and the palpable unease among the team members only deepened his concerns.
“McAllister, talk to me.”
McAllister adjusted his headset, the blue glow from the control panel casting an otherworldly tint on his face. "All systems are running smoothly, sir. Sensors are clear, no anomalies detected so far. It's like a ghost town out here."
Rooster nodded, his eyes scanning the navigation display. The ocean stretched endlessly beneath them, the moon casting a silvery glow on the rippling waves.
As the jet soared through the night sky, Rooster's mind remained alert, every sense attuned to the surroundings. "Keep an eye on the horizon, McAllister. We're entering the target area," Rooster instructed, his voice firm.
The tension within the cockpit heightened as they approached the designated scouting zone. The darkness below seemed impenetrable, a void that concealed both potential threats and vital information.
Suddenly, McAllister's voice cut through the stillness. "Sir, picking up a faint signal on the radar. It's irregular, doesn't match any known patterns."
Rooster leaned forward, his eyes narrowing at the data on the screen. "Can you identify the source?"
McAllister furrowed his brow, fingers dancing across the console. "It's intermittent, sir. I can't pinpoint the origin. Could be interference or something else."
Rooster's instincts kicked in, his lips pursed. "Maintain course but be on high alert. We don't want any surprises. Let me know if anything changes."
The jet continued its path through the designated area, the tension within the cockpit rose. The intermittent signal added an extra layer of uncertainty to an already delicate situation. Rooster's mind calculated various scenarios, each one requiring a different response.
The minutes ticked by, the team on edge, their eyes scanning the darkness for any signs of movement or activity. The ocean below seemed vast and unyielding, the moonlight creating shifting patterns on the water's surface.
Suddenly, McAllister's voice broke the silence again. "Sir, I'm detecting an anomaly in the water. It's registering a disturbance, like a turbulence pattern, but there's no storm reported in this area."
Rooster's gaze snapped to the sensor readings. "Give me more details."
McAllister's fingers flew over the controls. "It's a localized disturbance, approximately two clicks ahead. The water temperature in that area is fluctuating rapidly. I can't explain it, sir."
Rooster's mind raced as he processed the information. A disturbance in the water, anomalies on the radar—something wasn't adding up. The team, now fully aware of the potential threat, intensified their focus.
"Prepare for a low pass, McAllister. We need visual confirmation," Rooster ordered, his voice cutting through the tension.
The jet descended, flying just above the water's surface. The moonlit ocean unfolded beneath them, revealing the mysterious disturbance. As they approached, the team strained their eyes to make sense of the anomaly.
"Sir, visual contact confirmed," McAllister reported. "There's something in the water. It looks like... wreckage."
Rooster's brow furrowed. Wreckage in the middle of the ocean raised more questions than answers. He instructed McAllister to zoom in on the visual feed, attempting to discern any identifiable markings or signs of recent activity. “What kind?”
"Looks like a ship," McAllister remarked, his voice quiet. "But there's no distress signal, and no lifeboats. It's as if it just... fell apart."
Rooster studied the wreckage intently, his mind calculating possibilities. "Check for any markings or identification. We need to figure out who this belongs to and what happened."
As McAllister manipulated the controls to enhance the visual feed, the jet circled the area, providing different angles of the scene. The team noted the absence of any discernible logos or flags on the wreckage, making it difficult to determine its origin.
"Sir, I can't find any identifying markers," McAllister reported, frustration evident in his tone. "It's like this ship came out of nowhere."
Rooster's gaze remained fixed on the debris below and before speaking, he paused, his mind snapping to one thing and one thing only.
Trap.
The jet continued to circle the wreckage, the team analyzing every detail they could discern from the visuals. Rooster's mind churned with possibilities. A sunken ship, devoid of markings, raised concerns. A lot of them.
"McAllister, check for any signs of recent activity," Rooster instructed, his gaze unwavering. "We need to know if this is recent or if it's been here for a while."
McAllister nodded, manipulating the controls to enhance the visuals even further. The jet's advanced sensors picked up traces of fuel residue and disrupted marine life around the wreckage, indicating that whatever happened had occurred relatively recently.
"Sir, it looks like this wasn't too long ago. There's still some residual heat and disrupted marine activity." McAllister reported.
Rooster contemplated the information, a frown creasing his forehead. The absence of distress signals meant either a catastrophic failure that prevented any communication or a deliberate effort to keep the incident under wraps.
Both scenarios added layers of complexity to the situation.
"Keep scanning the area for any signs of life, survivors, or hostile presence," Rooster ordered, his tone decisive. "We need to gather as much intel as possible before making a decision."
As the jet continued its surveillance, the team remained vigilant, their eyes scanning the water for any signs of movement or unexpected activity. The moonlight played on the ripples of the ocean, casting an eerie glow on the scene below.
"Sir…no life forms.," McAllister announced, his fingers swiftly navigating the controls. “There’s…there’s no one down there."
The enhanced sensors revealed no signs of electronic interference or abnormal energy readings in the vicinity. The wreckage seemed to be a result of a conventional maritime incident, yet the absence of distress signals and life forms continued to puzzle the team.
"Sir, there's nothing unusual in the readings," McAllister reported, a hint of frustration in his voice. "It's a straightforward wreckage, but the lack of survivors or any communication is... unsettling."
Rooster nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Alright." he sighs, eyebrow twitching in anger, he knew something was off about this, “Everyone…return to base.”
