A trash bag, preferably a black one and the biggest sturdiest one you can find, with a hole cut in the bottom for your head, can pinch hit for a Mylar blanket. I used to do this when I ran half marathons. Clearance or overstock at grocery stores can be ridiculously cheap. I got two sizeable bottles of 7Select fruit punch for my kids for $1 total. Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment

sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it

Some churches offer short term residence

Find your nearest homeless shelter

Look for places that are open to the public

A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry

HYGIENE

A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.

Public libraries have bathrooms you can use

Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.

Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver

Local beaches, go for a quick swim

Some truck stops have showers you can pay for

Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet

Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket

OTHER

Von Hostess kommen viele verschiedene Kuchenspezialitäten wie Zingers, Cup Cakes und Snowballs, aber die bekannteste ist sicherlich Twinkies. Die Süßigkeit hat eine herausgehobene Stellung in der amerikanischen Popkultur – wie auch der Donut – und daher kommen sie auch in vielen Filmen vor. Allerdings meist eher negativ: als industriell hergestelltes, überzuckertes Trash Food symbolisieren sie die hoch entwickelte, arbeitsteilige Industriegesellschaft.

Am bekanntesten sind sicherlich die Auftritte von Twinkies in WALL-E (2008), Zoombieland mit Woody Harrelson (2009) und Predator (2018).

Hostess Twinkies wurden 1930 in Chicago. Zunächst gab es die Cremefüllung nur in der Geschmacksrichtung Banane. Als die während des Zweiten Weltkriegs knapp wurden, nur in Vanille. Diese Änderung war so erfolgreich, dass immer mehr Twinkies verkauft wurden. Mit den 2010er Jahren wuchs

Die u.a. aus den Filmen Ghostbusters und Zombieland weltweit berühmt gewordenen Twinkies von Hostess schmecken ehrlich gesagt wie haltbarer Weichkuchen mit einem Klecks Cremefüllung darin. Das Vanille-Aroma der Füllung hat eine ganz leicht medizinisch-bittere Note wie ich das von manchen Vanille-Sprudeln und Kaugummis kenne, so minimal antiseptisch. Was Tallahassee alias Woody Harrelson daran jetzt so toll fand, dass er einen Zombienahkampf dafür in Kauf nahm, wird mir nicht klar. Meine bescheidene Ausbeute an US-Süßigkeiten, die ich noch nicht probiert habe und einfach kaufen musste. Die Riegel kosten Stück 1,49€, das einzelne Twinkie 0,65€, Frucht-Marshmallows von Little Becky (nicht im Bild) 2,79€, die Dose A&W Vanilla Rootbeer 1,50€ (gekühlt!) und die Jaw Busters 1,49€.

Weitere Kuchenspezialitäten von Hostess

Die “Coffee Cakes” von Hostess werden zum Kaffee gereicht, enthalten aber keinen. Diese Sorte heißt “Apple Streusel”.

Erinnern mich sehr stark an Twinkies von Hostess, die Zingers mit den Peanuts. War ja am Ende auch eine Firma…

Die intensivste Werbebeziehung hatten die Peanuts mit der damaligen Backwarenfabrik Dolly Madison, die später zu Hostess gehörte, bevor beides eingestellt wurde. Ein Produkt von Dolly Madison waren die Zingers, für die vor allem Charlie Brown warb.
