Here’s a question for fellow ACGAS fans:
Anyone else out there on the hunt for All Creatures Great & Small trinkets and antiques? I love 20’s/30’s/40’s knick knacks and this show definitely delivers on showcasing some superb collectibles. Beswick is a personal favourite but I also love the other displayed artwork. I tried to Google-lens some of it but I would love to know more about the Mill painting that’s on display in the Skeldale sitting room. Any other input would also be greatly appreciated. 🧡
Added some pictures (obviously not mine) for clarification.

What are some of your favourite musicals?
Hi :)
Most of my favorite musicals are 40s/50s/60s movie musicals. My favorite movie of all time is Mary Poppins, so I guess that's my favorite musical too.
Beyond that I'm a huge fan of State Fair 1945. Other favorites include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Guys and Dolls, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, High Society, and On The Town. And an honorary mention to the movie version of Paint Your Wagon.
And of course Singin' in the Rain. I'm a big Donald O'Connor fan. My other main favorite of his movies is called When Johnny Comes Marching Home.
For more recent and actually stage shows, my favorites tend to be adaptations of already existing things. You're A Good Man Charlie Brown and Snoopy! for Peanuts, Back to the Future The Musical, and the Secondhand Lions musical are the ones that come to mind.
I'm not much for downer musicals, I like the happy endings, but when I was five I was completely obsessed with the soundtrack to Fiddler on the Roof. My mom had to hide it to make me stop listening to it, and it didn't turn up for over a decade.
#Conversation#Gets asked simple question. Responds with five paragraph answer.#I just love fun questions.#Do I think with the time skip landing in 1945 that the ACGAS characters should go see State Fair? Yes. Yes I do.

Us, finding out that IRL Siegfried's wife's name was AUDREY:
While visitors to the practice were principally there to see the real James Herriot, and were often overcome with excitement to meet him - which always bemused Dad - they were also delighted if Donald Sinclair (better known to them as Siegfried) made an appearance. This of course tickled us as, since we had grown up in and around the practice, Donald and his younger brother Brian (on whom Tristan was based) were like family.
They were a constant presence in our lives, Donald was Jim's godfather and we always referred to him and his wife as "Uncle Donald and Auntie Audrey."
- Jim and Rosie Wight.
#all creatures great and small#acgas#LISTEN#coincidences do happen but that's an awful big coincidence ok?#pls note we are just a PBS station and don't actually know the answer to this question#but are we frequently tempted to go take a megaphone to the MASTERPIECE floor so they can know our shipper thoughts? yes

Hello, fellow middle aged trans guy who likes historical menswear and All Creatures Great and Small. I have quite a bit of catching up to do before I can match your excellent levels of both gender and wardrobe, but you have definitely given me some things to strive for. I don't know how I found your blog, but I'm glad I did.
Question for you, because I don't know anyone else who would have a clue: Do you know what James' work trousers are made of in S1 of ACGAS? Some sort of corduroy? They must be fairly sturdy to hold up to veterinary work (even just filming "veterinary work"), but they also look extremely soft and comfortable.
Heya and thank you!
James is indeed wearing corduroy (which is also specifically mentioned in the books) -- I can recall he has at least 2 pairs that he wears pretty consistently:

I thought at first these were from Darcy, but James' trousers have pleats, so they are from somewhere else. If I find them, I'll tag onto this post. They do indeed look soft and comfy!

Hello new ACGAS fans!
Glad you found your way to the hell-site that is tumblr. We have some nice creators over here. Fanart, gif sets, videos, lots of fanfic writers (on ao3). Use the tag search to find blogs to follow.
We mainly use acgas, acgas 2020, all creatures great and small as tags.
If you like a post you can click the little heart to like it or, even better, use the reblog button to reblog it to your own blog. That way all the original (copyright) information remains in place and you make a creator happy by sharing their work without removing the original source.
Oh and feel free to fill our inboxes with questions.

Anyone else scared they’re gonna do a time jump in All Creatures? 😬
1) There was apparently a casting call for baby girls for a ‘popular series set in North Yorkshire’ that would require twin girls to be available throughout the stretch of time that ACGAS is filming in, suggesting they may be skipping ahead to James and Helen having Rosie.
2) Set photos of Siegfried’s car show that the black out lights are absent from his headlights, which could mean that they simply hadn’t been put on for the take yet… or it could mean the war is over.
3) In a group I’m in on Facebook, someone posted the aforementioned set photos that they took, and a commenter asked if Tristan’s lack of military mustache meant this was post-1945, to which the photographer alluded that it “could well be” with a wink emoji. (EDIT: They also responded to someone pointing out the lack of black out lights with the question of the war being over by saying “good spot” with another wink emoji.)
I… do not want this. At all.
I’ve loved following every aspect of their lives through the war. Especially because the original series did have time skips (and I get why, it’s not like they had any notion of returning full-time), most notably including the entirety of the war, it’s been so, so nice to sit with them through it and actually see what they’re doing and how everything affects them. It always stressed me the heck out when the original did it, because it felt like I’d missed out on so much each time and I didn’t like the feeling of being out of touch with where they are in their lives. Suddenly James and Helen have a kid, suddenly they’re gonna have another, suddenly Siegfried is gonna get married, suddenly he has his own kids we never get to see, suddenly Tris is going to work for the Ministry, suddenly Jimmy and Rosie are preteens, etc etc… it kept making them all grow up, literally or figuratively, faster than I wanted. It is what it is, and you got used to it, but it was still jarring, and I loved that the reboot was NOT doing this.
Seeing the war years and really keeping up with them through everything has been absolutely wonderful. I love not having missed anything significant and feeling like I’m always caught up with my friends. Especially when it’s felt like they are my friends amid bad health struggles this past year that have thrown me way out of the loop with my real friends, it’s been really nice to have ones that I don’t feel I’m missing anything with.
I feel like it would also just be really sudden at this point to just… have the war be over? We’re only just really getting into the big developments of that time period. Season 5 built up more of what’s going on in the community and how each individual feels about things and what they’re starting to do about their circumstances, and it feels like we’re just at the start of the most important stuff. I don’t want to skip the goings-on in Darrowby or the struggle of the war or the relief of the eventual victory, I don’t want to lose out on pieces of Jimmy’s childhood again, I don’t want to miss all of the little family moments among them all, especially each of them being so adorable with Jimmy as he grows, and I really don’t want to miss whatever developments (however small) would have happened between Siegfried and Audrey in the years that have passed. I don’t want to just jump forward and rush to any of it. None of these things would feel as earned to me without actually spending that time with them.
It’s not looking good, but… please no. 😬

I compiled a thing. Just to have all our 'clues' in one place. To see if, you know, we are reading too much into stuff.
*Stands on corner, handing out leaflets titled Reasons Why The Robron Fans Are Clowning In 2023*
•Emmerdale producers calling Danny up 'at the start of the year', which sounds like before ⬇️
•Danny/Ryan meeting in April, talking about a project together/their next chapter, and posting about it on social media, where they also start following each other (Danny and Steph are expecting a baby in August, which ties in with a SSW return)
(•Nothing was ever mentioned about a project together after this meeting)
•Danny starting filming fairly soon after the birth of baby Edith, which we were told by a tumblr anon
•Daisy announcing her pregnancy in August, something that would have been early days in April when Ryan and Danny had their meeting, as the baby is due in December (which could explain a later return date for Ryan)
•Aaron is back for SSW and Marco (who was very highly mentioned in 2022) gets one mention only, when Aaron reveals he was dumped by him
•Danny talks very fondly about robron and how he wants to work with Ryan again and is trying to 'talk him round'
•Laura Shaw is very vague when answering questions about robron, but she sounds positive about them, and she doesn't completely shoot down hope of Robert returning like one of the producers did in 2021, when they flat out said 'no such plans'
•There are no plans revealed for a love interest for Aaron either, in fact very little is revealed about his story at all
•Rhona drops the R(obert) word in front of Aaron, after no one has mentioned him in such a context since 2021, in Danny's exit episode (there was a Robert and Aaron wedding mention in 2022 by Dan, but no one of interest was around to hear it)
•Ryan likes a bunch of posts on his insta after appearing on ACGAS, including ones about how he should come back to Emmerdale
•Danny likes several posts/articles about how the show needs Robert back
• Emmerdale supposedly filming something in Whitby (which might amount to nothing, but it got us curious if it might be a stand-in for Isle of Wight)
• The show announcing that a character is returning in January to 'help someone'
(•Baby Hawley is born)
•Victoria drops the R(obert) word to Aaron, reminding him and the viewers that he was/is 'the one' for Aaron (so two mentions now, in the space of a couple of months...)
Edit: Please don't take the stuff I wrote here to X/Twitter, I would prefer that my thoughts on this stay here, where it's nice and cozy and not hateful! 🙂

question: the episodes of ACGAS 2020 i have are often NOT from PBS masterpiece and don't have the scenes that masterpiece includes, which is a bummer, because i watch the episodes on my friend's masterpiece cable and when i go to Acquire the episodes online they don't have those scenes. anybody wanna gimme a tip on where they're getting the PBS extended ones? I'd rather acquire those ones than the ones with all the scenes cut.

Thanks for the tag, @pers-books!
1) Biggest surprise while writing this year?
That i eventually managed to do something, after a massive post- Home Front slump (published in spring 2023, so... ouch).
2) How many WIPs do you have in your docs for next year?
None. Any writing is a success at the moment, I'm not thinking ahead!
3) Favourite character to write this year?
Oooh, a tricky one. My favourite new character is Mr Bosworth, because he's so annoying and he winds Siegfried up so much. And that's always hilarious to write.
4) The character that gave you the most trouble?
None... she says, hopefully.
5) What's one pairing you want to explore next year?
Nobody new has jumped to mind; to be able to write any of my old favourites would be lovely.
6) Did you receive any gifts this year?
Not yet, but I have hopes for acgas secret santa....
7) Did you do any collaborative works this year?
No
8) What do you listen to while writing?
My sister has put me onto Simply Three - a string trio who did a bunch of the bridgerton music. I prefer listening to instrumental music while writing because I don't accidentally start typing the lyrics.
9) Favourite line/passage which you wrote this year?
I have lots of favourite bits, but I do enjoy this peak comedy moment, from How now, brown cow (a fic that also foreshadowed an episode plot. Hire me, acgas team!):
A solid black cow backside was facing away from him. There was a mournful moo, and the cow swung round to face him. Siegfried jumped backwards in surprise, tripped and landed bottom first in a bucket.
"Crabtree, what the blazes have you done now?!"
Crabtree appeared beside his cow. "Well, it's like this. After you had your... incident and we couldn't find the lasses in the evening, like, we thought we'd better make them easier to find. So we-"
"Painted bits of them white," Siegfried sighed. "Of course you did."
"Aye, they've all got different patterns too. Bessie here, she's got a star, and April, she's a diamond."
Crabtree glanced down at Siegfried, still lodged in the bucket. "I wonder what pattern you'll have and all."
tagging @graceisinthelibrary @owlsie-hoot @cookie-moi , if you'd like to take part!
Questions to copy:

Hi!! I adore your blog, your posts are a breath of fresh air on my dash. I have a quick niche fandom question for you if you have the time!
Do you prefer the 2020 ACGAS or the 1978 adaptation more? I grew up with the ‘78 series and I think I’m a little hesitant to try the new series as to not “overwrite” the memories I have of the old one. Also, if you’re into Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility?
I hope you have a lovely day!!
Thank you!
I grew up with the books (read at age 10 and a huge impact on how I internalized my masculinity), but only binged both TV series late last year. Because, like you, I had nostalgia and was worried neither show would live up to my expectations.
That said, I adore both shows for different reasons.
1978: I like the variety of animal cases, and it's kind of wild to see animal scenes that would in no way be permitted to be filmed today. We get to see a lot more of the side characters, including one of my favs, Granville Bennett. I like how Siegfried is such a little shit and enjoy subplots like the guinea fowls. I like how the farmers feel more rooted in an older time, especially via their language. The production values are very homey /pos.
2020: I like how the characters change and grow over time and how the women have things to do. The side characters we do see get developed more. Audrey Hall is a fantastic addition to the cast of characters. Siegfried is far less mean (personally v. important to me to see him grow out of the worst of his temper) and his relationship with Tristan is explored as to why they are That Way. The production values are lush & gorgeous.
Both series have deep ties to the Herriot estate and are very clearly labors of love. There are book and real!person easter eggs in both shows, though they are a little harder to spot in the new since so much original material gets reworked, but they are absolutely there.
Both are extremely rewatchable and very comforting, so I'd say give the new show a shot! My mental version of the characters has become an amalgam of all three incarnations. As for Austen, I have only seen the movies, so it's Sense and Sensibility (1995) all the way, hugely in part to the cast.

ACGAS fans I have a question because I'm currently really at a loss what to do:
- themed gif sets that combine scenes from different episodes and show for example parallels, similarities, character development, backstory....
Or
- scene gif set that are gifs of one particular scene only
I feel that the second one is preferred by the fandom? I don't really know anymore because between series I'm mainly doing themed sets with a story behind them & that often takes days to make. Whereas I do a lot of scene gif set during series & shortly afterwards. But with so many new fans here on tumblr I'm suddenly no longer sure what to do & therefore rarely make gifs at the moment. Also because I feel that old and new fans are drifting apart at the moment and form two different groups. And I wish we could somehow connect better.

✨personal reflection on my writing process for 'How long have you felt this way?'✨
I finished a thing!! I finally finished something!! yay 🫶
My 6-part 79,700-long series containing my first ACGAS (Farmody) fic, 3 follow-on ficlets, 1 one-shot, and 1 one-shot collection. Holy moly. Allow me to indulge for a moment in a writer's reflection on this whole process :)
My first thought when I saw 5x4 Uninvited Guests, and especially this scene, was "if they didn't want to make it gay they sure did a very bad job🤷♀️", and from that moment onwards I, like many others, was obsessed.
(5x4) Uninvited Guests
There's just something about these two, dude. Tristan's defensiveness, and very relatable fear of being pushed aside by a sparkling new assistant. Carmody's fear of abandonment and rejection. The fact both of them share these qualities, and they both feel like outcasts, but in a "hey, at least we got each other" sort of way. Need I say more?! I will leave it up to the following tags to say more.
I had wanted to get back into fandom for a while, after taking a long break, and I hadn't written anything that wasn't for college or work in years - so my skills definitely weren't where they could be, and initially I felt so insecure putting something out into the scary world of the internet. But I had no reason to be afraid! I found such a lovely, warm, welcoming community of people who wanted to read what I was writing, and I'm so grateful for that! ❤️
So I thought it would be cute to reflect on struggling with writer's block for so long, and just generally on what the writing process was like for this series - partly, I thought it might interest some of you who've been following this series since the start, and partly for my own sake as somebody venturing back into creative writing in a way I honestly never thought I would again!
In How long have you felt this way?, part 1 of this series, and the focal point I suppose of the whole series, I sort of fast-forwarded past their friendship-and-trust-building phase, because I honestly wanted to get to the juicy pining faster. Partly, it was also because I hadn't spent enough time with the characters to really fully imagine how their friendship might naturally develop (now obviously that I've spent a lot more time with them, I can see how their friendship would progress more naturally - which is why I'm returning back to HLHYFTW and filling in more scenes in the one-shot collection, Audrey's Memories). Additionally, chapter 1 is so dialogue-heavy because I am very much a visual thinker (although ironically can't draw to save my life lol) - but imagining dialogue comes easy to me, so the question became, "How do I get these two to talk about relationships?" which is something I couldn't picture them doing naturally.
I decided that Carmody was already developing feelings for Tristan by this stage, but Tristan hadn't fully realised his feelings yet. I think that Carmody would likely ask about Tristan and Maggie, given he was trying to test the waters. Then, it seemed natural for them to talk about their exes, and for two blokes in their mid-20s in WWII, it also seemed natural for them to talk about the future in a general sense, given the existential threat of the war (Tristan musing about settling down in chapter 1 - I borrowed this from Tristan's, imo somewhat unfinished, arc at the end of S2 where he's upset by Maggie moving on). Then Carmody comes out to him, and says settling down wouldn't be as easy for him to do. 6 chapters of pining later and they kiss :)
I do regret ending HLHYFTW so quickly after their first kiss, so in Research isn't as boring as it sounds, actually I imagined how their first conversation after their first kiss might go. That's where Carmody is very blunt with Tristan, and says that being in a same-sex relationship, in 1940s Britain, isn't going to be easy - linking to Carmody's fear of rejection. I wanted it to appear as if Carmody was almost offering Tristan an "out" out of their relationship before it had had even begun (I'm a sucker for angst, can you tell!?). This in turn triggers some anxiety in Tristan, where he's worried that Carmody is pulling away, and Tristan's shutting down makes Carmody in turn more anxious that Tristan will leave him for the same reasons his ex did (an OC named John who we universally hate). Tristan's also anxious that Carmody's already-glittering research career will make him want to stay in London, as opposed to returning to Darrowby. In short, they miscommunicate, have their first fight, (which broke my heart to write, but they needed to get past that milestone to develop their relationship), make up, and move on :)
In London Calling, I wanted it to be much more upbeat: shake off the angst and let them have some fun. I also wanted to show some more of Carmody's life in London, his friends, teachers, the RVC (this was one human error I made: I forgot that he goes to Imperial College in 5x5, not the RVC!), and of course, Hamish :)
I also wanted to show their relationship progressing emotionally (with another difficult conversation) and physically (but I off-screened that because I detest writing smut) so I focused on their emotional bond and made vague references to their sex life (I didn't want to ignore that side of their relationship either). Carmody gives Tristan a tour of the Royal Veterinary College, and Tristan begins to trust that Carmody does, actually, genuinely want to return to Darrowby and isn't sacrificing too much of himself to do that.
This is where I've brought in some of my own personal experiences and this is one way that fic is a safe space to explore some potentially difficult/challenging aspects of your own life, or of those around you, in a sandbox - and that's one of the reasons why I adore fic and fandom so much, and why I'm sure many of you do too!
When you're a researcher, it's very easy to hyperfocus and obsess over your topic (because, let's be real, it isn't just a topic, it's more like a vocation, and without your research, you wouldn't really know who you are!) - I suspect this is something I have in common with Carmody, and it was interesting to explore this characteristic but from Tristan's perspective, as opposed to Carmody. (I know what it feels like to be in my own head, but I don't know what it feels like to be in somebody else's head, observing me. I think that's why I write from Tristan's perspective so much.) Recognising this hyper-obsessive academic trait in Carmody, Tristan gets in his head worried that Carmody is sacrificing too much of himself to return to Darrowby to be with Tristan. So there's a tad of emotional hurt/comfort here, too. That was all informed by either personal experience, or stories from other people in my life where geography and love doesn't always line up (thanks, Brexit 🙄).
[stop reading here if you have not read the last chapter of 'See you at the end of the aisle'!]
See you at the end of the aisle is a sort of full-circle moment: lots of the plot lines I started in previous installments finally pay off and it was incredibly satisfying to finish this ficlet! - (Siegfried and Audrey's wedding, Tristan's recurring anxieties about "the future", and Carmody's need for a deeper commitment from Tristan). Here, again, I leaned into some personal experiences: I adore hearing other people's engagement stories, and now I have my own to tell, I adore telling my own engagement story too (DM me and I'll happily re-tell it, it never gets old!) - so the dinner scene where Siegfried and Audrey are telling their engagement story, and Tristan and Carmody are listening intently, is again directly inspired by real life. (I remember listening to other people's engagement stories, and longing for my own, and I would always picture myself in the role of the woman being proposed to.) So Tristan and Richard naturally do the same thing, and the roles they imagine themselves in foreshadow who eventually does the proposing, that being Tristan.
Here, I wrote from Carmody's perspective for a couple reasons.
Firstly, I adore romcoms and especially ones which have to do with weddings/engagements, and it's a familiar and comforting trope for me to return to!
Secondly, if I did write from Tristan's perspective, it would ruin the ending of the fic! So obviously the only way to do it was Carmody's pov :)
The sad elephant in the room is that Tristan and Richard obviously can't get married as two men in 1942. But I'm a hopeless romantic, so Tristan instead declares his forever love to Carmody, and I like to imagine they had a little spiritual ceremony anyway, with just the Skeldale family :)
To wrap up this very long post, the one-shot He's the love of my life and the (as-of-now ongoing) collection Audrey's Memories are written slightly out of context, basically in an effort to include certain scenes that didn't quite fit in the main 4 fics/ficlets, but which I wanted to write anyway, or which were inspired by conversations with friends in the Ao3 comments and I wrote them as thank yous for always encouraging me!
And I'll reiterate it now: thank you to everyone who subscribed, commented, gave kudos and read this series!! Every single notification email from Ao3 would have me smiling or giggling to myself, whether I was bored at work or on public transport or just chilling at home - I honestly can't emphasise enough how beautiful of an experience it has been to share these stories with you all 🫶 and I'd like to particularly thank @101goldenretrievers, @augurey-ray and @a-casual-egg! 🥰 Genuinely, I don't know how I could've gotten this series over the line without all of your amazing incredible wonderful love and support! 🫶
What's next?
My ongoing WIP, Close To You, is my current main focus, and I'm also working on Beyond All Reasonable Doubt, which is a fixit in which Carmody never leaves after 5x5!
I also write drabbles for these two adorable dorks, which you can find here, and I moderate the ongoing Farmody Prompt Challenge - follow @farmody-prompts to keep up to date with that 🥰
To wrap this up...
Thank you if you've read this far, and enjoy this gif of our faves as a reward 🫶💕
(also, below the gif is a deleted snippet of dialogue between Carmody and Tristan which didn't make the cut after their engagement, but which I wanted to share anyway somewhere so here you have it 🥰)
(5x5) Pair Bond
The way Tristan's smile and his eyes linger on Carmody I am WEAK do you notice how he keeps looking at Carmody even as he walks away???!! As if he's waiting for Carmody to turn around?!! oh my GOD HE'S SO IN LOVE hngnnggngng
Deleted dialogue from 'See you at the end of the aisle' chapter 5:
"How long have you felt this way- I mean... how long have you known you wanted to propose?" Carmody asked, admiring his twine ring in the gentle yellow glow of the light above. "Honestly - since Christmas," Tristan replied, leaving a gentle kiss on Carmody's temple. "Remember that conversation James and I had by the fire? When you and Helen and Audrey were doing the washing up - since then... that's when I knew." "And - how long were you planning this for?" Carmody asked. "I actually wanted to propose the day we went for the picnic at Pumphrey Manor - but I could tell you were stressed out from your research, and I didn't want to distract you - I thought it probably wasn't the right time... And I've been carrying this letter around all week, ever since you got back, and just trying to find the right moment, then... In the dance hall, when you said you wanted to dance, I just knew this was the moment - now or never - and... All I needed then was for you to say yes."

Hii! I hope you're doing well!!
I was wondering, do you have a favourite acgas moment?
Hi!
Thanks for the ask, I'm doing well : )
A favourite ACGAS moment, you say? Tricky question.
Here are some of my favourites:
Tristan playing the guitar - the way Siegfried leaves, but then pauses in the hallway to listen to the little tune he plays.
"There is no known treatment for listeriosis!"
The Mad Conductor scene
Just the existence of Marilyn the badger
Any time Siegfried yells "Tristaaaaaan!"
"You sound just like Siegfried." "I FEEL JUST LIKE SIEGFRIED!"
At the end of the episode 'Merry Gentlemen' where they all step outside and it's snowing. It's really magical, and I love it.
⬆️ this. Just this.
And
"Has anyone ever told you you're insufferable?" "Not to my face, no "
The scene with Tristan and Siegfried giving a tour of the Surgery in episode 5
From the 2020 series
I'm still watching both of the series, so I'm sure I'll have loads more favourites (and there's probably some I've forgotten)
Thanks again for the ask! : ) What's your favourite/favourites acgas moment?
