My only recommendation there is that you may want to convert the document to PDF before sending it off to anyone else. docx (the microsoft format) is also an option.

Not all OSs can read odt, the libreoffice format, and that can get difficult when sending documents to co-workers, friends, family, and/or professors.

It's pretty easy to convert to and from PDF, so that's generally the format I prefer to use for mailing documents.

This also helps to protect your documents from Cloud fuckery, and unreliable internet access or power outages (something some classmates of mine ran into recently with Hurricane Lee).

"the best trips i've had in my life"

I’m still stuck on Jungkook saying that the AYS trips were the best of his life? That’s actually a crazy thing to say when you look back on those trips and where they went and what exactly they did. Hearing “best trip of your life” you would expect something more grand, but for Jungkook it really was just hanging out with Jimin, doing pretty mundane activities and eating a lot of delicious food. Somehow these trips were impactful enough that he felt they were the best of his life? That’s crazy to me.  

Sapporo was beautiful, but Connecticut was… Connecticut lol, it’s pretty but not that interesting compared to other places they’ve traveled and Jeju is somewhere they’ve both already been plenty of times. The accommodations in Sapporo were especially nice, but CT was a camping van and the house from my suburban nightmares. The Jeju house was gorgeous but not anything particularly new for them either. 

The activities? They definitely did a lot of fun things, but most of them were things they had already done before, some of them even on other seasons of BV or with other members, friends, and on “private” vacations. A lot of the trips were actually filled with pretty mundane activities. Jimin even said in Sapporo that was just how he usually spends his time at home. It gave them an excuse to eat lots of delicious food, but that's hardly the only time they’ve done that either.

And yes, obviously they would enjoy these trips because they basically planned them. But that’s another thing, how compatible Jikook are and how well they click because not everyone would enjoy this kind of trip. Even TH questioned why he came at first because they already do all that in Seoul anyways, or how he went off to play golf one morning. So obviously Jikook were going to enjoy AYS, but I still never thought that these trips would end up being the best of JK’s life? Eating, taking drives and playing around with Jimin really topped every other trip he’s ever been on? 

The Jimin part is important because while some of the activities like snowboarding were fun on their own, what made the little things entertaining was how Jikook could take any simple activity and make it so silly and fun. I especially loved things like Jikook shining their bedside lamps at each other and how delighted JK was with that game, how happy he was when JM started playing along with him. Playing cards or having dinner with someone or playing in a pool, shining your bedside lamp at them or taking a drive wouldn’t be fun if you weren’t with someone who made those kinds of things fun and dynamic, if they couldn’t match your humor and energy. In fact some of those things could be pretty boring or tedious with the wrong person. 

There’s so many delightful examples of Jikook being adorably silly while doing these simple things like the mock cooking show in Sapporo, the way they made that scuzzi jacuzzi so fun with the snow, or Jikook coming up with the pool slap game and being so proud they showed it to TH and taught it to him the next day. You could list off so many examples like this and it’s just one of my very favorite things about AYS and Jikook’s friendship in general. I mean, the amount of mileage they can get out of a tiny pool or some bedside lamps is really crazy. JK talked about how they would be copies of each other if they were the same age and it really shows in AYS.

But what I also think really encapsulates Jikook’s bond is that even when things went wrong, such as in CT, they still had a ridiculous amount of fun and considered it a good trip. The cursed hamburger, Walmart, Jimin’s stomach virus, getting eaten up by mosquitos, getting nailed with rain that felt like hail, JK having a cold, JM getting burned by the motorcycle and then stepped on, JK falling into the river, elbowing JM in the face, JMs nose being bruised half the trip, having a fever, honestly just annoying the hell out of each other lol. But they loved that trip! JK wanted to do twelve more seasons after, they started planning Jeju and future trips before CT was even over, (they signed up to enlist together right after this!), JK recounted the trip to Yoongi with the biggest smile on his face. They enjoyed watching that first episode so much and laughed so hard at moments I didn’t even think were that funny (to be fair they were a little drunk there lmao).  

So, even when things went wrong they still enjoyed their trip immensely because they have the kind of relationship where they can take something bad and bond over the experience, turn it into something positive and memorable, create inside jokes that'll probably last forever. They also never truly got annoyed or stressed out at each other either despite both being sick or tired. You have to be so close and get along with someone so well to be able to do that?

So despite JK going to Jeju & Busan with his 97 liner friends, despite allegedly going to Japan with Eunwoo, despite already going snowboarding with TH and WS, despite any other trips or breaks or BV seasons over the years, despite CT being a mess, Jeju being somewhere they’ve both already been, none of the activities being that new or particularly exciting for them, despite being “company content”, in that moment JK felt so strongly and so positively and so fondly about his AYS experience that they felt like the best trips of his life. You don’t even need JKs words to know that, it was clear by the constant smiles and laughter throughout the show how much he loved it. And what made those trips so fun and impactful was clearly that they were together. That’s just amazing to me? To have someone you get along with so well, someone you have so much fun with and enjoy being around that much? 

I do think these trips offering a break from his insane schedule made them more impactful and meaningful to Jungkook too. You could tell how exhausted he was working nonstop during his solo schedules. Jimin even said in CT he was glad he came because otherwise JK wouldn’t have gotten to do all of those things. It’s funny that solos & tkkrs tried to make it seem like these trips were just piling onto JK’s busy schedule when in fact they seemed to offer him a much needed break to relax and do something fun instead. So the timing of these trips probably did add to why JK loved them so much.

I also think that JK felt so strongly about it specifically in that moment because Sapporo was a pretty emotional trip for them too. Based on JKs words they were also using the trip to make memories to look back on during enlistment, probably also wanted to have one more enjoyable experience before they would have to go away for eighteen months. I think that played a part in this trip feeling more special and sentimental than it ordinarily would have. I thought it was especially sweet how when they were both feeling particularly emotional/melancholy on the train ride they shared that moment together and took comfort in each other. Jimin said that he didn’t think he would have felt excited about the snow in SK, but in Sapporo he loved it so much. And JK saying that he wanted to return to Japan because it was the location of their first trip was terribly sweet. It was a really nice and poignant way to end AYS, because those trips and Sapporo in particular did have a lot of meaning for them, clearly. They truly loved AYS so much.

I have so many other thoughts and feelings about AYS I’d like to unpack eventually but really I think what encapsulates my feelings on AYS is just JK saying that these were the best trips of his life. I guess this is just my really long winded way of saying how special I think Jikook’s bond is. You can’t really argue that JK enjoyed AYS as much as he did for any reason other than that he was with Jimin. Even if JK simply enjoyed getting to take a relaxing trip during his busy schedule, what made a lot of the small things so fun was Jikook’s unique dynamic. That trip wouldn’t have been possible with someone else because quite simply it wouldn't have been the same trip. It had to be Jikook for AYS to be so incredibly relaxing but also have the right amount of activity, eating, and playing, for the simple things to be that enjoyable, the food so prominent, the shared dorky sense of humor, the few moments of softness and vulnerability, the comfortable vibe between them.

I’ve never seen JK yap that much in BTS content either, you can tell how comfortable he is with Jimin in particular and how easy and familiar their dynamic is too. I’ve never honestly seen them that relaxed and stripped back in BTS content before, which was part of the reason I enjoyed AYS so much. I felt like I got to genuinely know them better and I really loved that. They could have made the show more dynamic and entertaining by packing it full of activities or other people, but it seems like the main focus was just doing the things they enjoy doing together and having their ideal vacation, which I massively preferred.

I also thought it was really meaningful that they did their little AYS thing right before they enlisted together. They just really enjoyed that show so much, they really bonded over creating it, had so much fun coming up with the title and the little details, and clearly felt so much genuine fondness for it. For them to end their CH2 with AYS was really meaningful, because that’s literally how they closed out the whole CH2 “solo” era, with something they created together. Just the fact that they were even thinking about AYS in that moment shows how impactful it was for them. Jikook closed out their CH2 together while at the same time entering the next chapter of their lives together too. They just make my heart so warm for real. I really loved AYS so much and I’m so glad that Jikook loved it just as much as we did if not more.

it was a silly and tongue in cheek way to say that a lot of people are getting mad about it in a way that implies reactionary views on art, and that there's no way to say gay sex cats isn't art that wouldn't also imply that the fountain isn't art. a funny meme image is a funny meme image, but it is also funny to overthink and recontextualize them as art.

and the reaction makes the comparison even more apt. neural net generated artworks are anonymized mass produced images, vast majority having no artistic pretension or meaningful content such as a thomas kinkade painting. gay sex cats was made with no intent to be art, but the discourse it has with audience reaction and its appropriation in derivative works make it so. why is gay sex cats not art if people talking about it negatively allow it to be called art? is art only things you find beautiful and valuable? if so, what is value and beauty, and how do you draw the line? if gay sex cats was still ai generated but had more "aesthetic qualities" would it be art? if someone copies the original image by hand with all its ai generated faults where is the value generated? does the original still have no merit of its own, even after appropriation as a digital ready-made?

but the main reason as to why gay sex cats is comparable to the fountain still is because it made a lot of people with bad takes on art really really mad. and that the pissed off tags wouldn't look out of place as reaction to modern art in the 1920s. art is a flat circle

EDIT: well. putting an addendum because in retrospect more people took either or both the op and image in face value and much more self serious than ever intended. a lot of people understood the tone i was getting at, and i still stand by the questionings i added on, but still for clarification. the original comparison is not serious. it's self evidently ridiculous to compare a meme image to a historically significant artwork, the comparison was only drawn because they were both controversial to an audience, who reacted denying their status as respectively as an image and as art, and that it was funny that the negative reaction people had to the original image explicitly denied its status as art, even if the meme never had pretension to be art, so it was funny to draw a comparison and iterate on that.

i did think it was valid to bring in questionings about art and meaning because that's the reaction i saw most and wanted to make people think about the whys, and that also i do not think it's valid to base your dislike on ai art on either grounds of questioning its position and value as artwork, or even as a question of ip theft. regular degular handmade art can be soulless, repetitive, thoughtless, derivative, unethical, open and blatant theft, and much more, and that does not make it any less of an artwork. neural nets are tools that generate images by statistic correlation through human input.

the unambiguous issue with neural nets in art is its use as a tool by capital, to threaten already underpaid and overworked working artists and to keep their labor hostage under threat of total automation. in hindsight i regretted not adding the paragraph above as it was a way in which people could either misinterpret or assume things about me, but hindsight is hindsight and there's no way to predict how posts would blow up. so shrugs. i had written more posts in my blog that elaborated on that because asks would bot stop coming. and i think my takeaway is that people will reblog anything with a funny image without reading the words around it, or even closely looking at the image.

Upon arriving at the studio for what she thinks is a meeting with Ace, she is instead met with Avis, his wife and interim head of the studio. 

Will Penny keep her temper when she’s told the bad news that her film is being cut in favour of other ventures?

One thought fills Penny's mind as she walks down the studio hallway. 

I should have broken these heels in.

Given the importance of the meeting, she decided to go all out. Her casual clothes and flat shoes have been traded for a fitted copper colour two-piece suit and peep-toe shoes fresh out the box. Her dark brown hair is twisted into an intricate updo showing off her choice of earrings that match her red lipstick. 

It's way more elaborate than her usual getup and strays near overdressed, but when you're meeting with the man-child that is Ace Amberg you grin and bear it. 

Penny cringes as her heels click against the flooring announcing her presence. The men of the office turn at the sound and gawk. They're taken aback by the drastic change of her appearance, the feminine silhouette wrapped in fitted rayon, making no attempt to hide their stares. All she can do is avoid eye contact and walk faster towards the executive offices. 

She calms herself by thinking about the success coming her way. Her film has been greenlit and starts production in a month. The cast is rehearsing, props and sets prepared, all is going according to plan.

"Penny?" 

She is pulled from her daydream when her name is called out by Miss Stinson, Ace's secretary. Penny strolls to her desk, greeting the woman with a warm smile. 

"Hi Miss Stinson, I've got a 1 o'clock with Mr Amberg. Will I just head in? He should be expecting me." Penny moves to go through the office door when she is pulled back by a nervous Stinson. 

"Ah well about that, look, Ace isn't well.." Stinson trails off as her bottom lip quivers, trying to hold it together. She goes on to explain the situation about his health, making Penny gasp and strangely feel bad for the man. Sure she can't stand him, but she doesn't wish him dead. 

She's about to turn and leave when the handle of Ace's office door twists and out steps the unexpected. 

Avis Amberg. 

Despite her small stature, her presence fills the room. Her elegance and poise makes Penny shrink by comparison, feeling like a little girl playing dress up. 

Avis is engrossed in her planner as she hovers under the doorframe. When she looks up, Penny and Stinson stare, waiting for Avis to speak first. All she does is raise an eyebrow, looking Penny up and down before directing her curious expression to Stinson.

"Mrs Amberg, this is Pennelope Davis, a writer. She was meant to meet with Mr Amberg today. I'm so sorry I completely forgot to reschedule it, she was just leaving." Avis stops the rambling by raising a hand. 

Avis steps out of the office, turning to hold the door open. "It's fine, I can see her now. Go take your lunch, Miss Stinson," Stinson nods and scampers away. Avis continues holding the door, starting to tap her foot with impatience.

"Well Ms Davis?" She looks Penny up and down again, this time lingering as she takes in Penny’s appearance. It disturbs her having a woman looking at her like that. Like the men in the hallway. But she also feels intrigued by it. And so, Penny walks into the office. 

"That's an interesting accent you have, you're from across the pond, yes?” Avis shuts the office door, gesturing for Penny to take one of the seats across from the desk. 

Penny fidgets, taking off her gloves as she responds, "Yes Ma'am, Oxford. It's west of London."

"And posh. What does your family think of you gallivanting around Hollywood?" Avis asks, rounding the desk. 

"Ha, I'm the youngest of five Ma'am, they don't often think about me", Penny chuckles at her self-deprecating response, waiting for a similar response from Avis. Unlike Ace who would laugh at the humour, Avis just stares at her, eyebrows raised as she thinks of something to say. 

"I'm sorry to hear that," Avis says sincerely, her features softening.

Penny lowers her head, focusing again on the gloves in her hands. "It's alright. I'm sorry to hear about your husband, Ma'am" Which is followed by a scoff from the other woman. 

"Oh don't be, that's what decades of steaks and cigars do to a person. And don't call me Ma'am, the formality of your voice makes me feel a million years old. Mrs Amberg will do”

"Yes Ma'am–I mean Mrs Amberg! Sorry”, Penny bites her cheek wanting to the ground to swallow her. 

Avis stands behind the desk, hands resting on the chair back. She tilts her head at the flustered girl before her, smirking as Penny tries and fails to make eye contact. 

"You seem nervous, would you like a drink? Tea?" Avis gestures towards the drinks cart in the near corner of the room. 

Penny declines politely, "Oh no, thank you Mrs Amberg I’m sick of tea, I’ve had my fair share back home" 

“Then something stronger” Avis makes her way to the cart, picking up a whisky decanter with one hand, pulling out two glasses with the other.

“Oh no I couldn’t–” 

Avis cuts you off, looking over her shoulder as she makes up the drinks, “I insist, Ace isn’t going to drink it is he?” 

“I guess, I just want to keep a clear head, that's all. I know how big an opportunity this is”

Avis’ hands stop for a second, “Opportunity?”

"I know how lucky I am to be working with the studio, Mrs Amberg. Scripts written by someone like me aren't picked up often, I’m grateful for–” Once again Avis raises her hand signalling Penny to stop talking.

“I’m going to stop you there Ms Davis. Due to a change of circumstances, the production has been suspended indefinitely.”

"What?" Penny hears the words but doesn’t fully register what’s been said. 

“Indefinitely" means production has been stopped for an unspecified period of time.” Penny's mind catches up and her stomach twists in frustration. Of course she knows what indefinitely means. 

“I meant, what do you mean by changes?”

Avis explains, "The studio executives, and Ace, decided to prioritise other ventures. You should have been told after the meeting”

Penny feels her face heat up, not with embarrassment but with anger. She’s always struggled with keeping her cool, occasionally getting the ‘emotional woman’ label as a result. Closing her eyes, she focuses on her breathing, inhaling and exhaling before speaking again. 

"How long ago was the meeting?" Avis picks up on the change in Penny’s body language. The pleasant, warm persona has melted away to reveal something else.

"It was finalised during the last executive meeting. 2 weeks ago." Avis narrows her eyes and braces for an outburst. She sees Penny’s jaw tense as she slumps back in the chair, finishing off her drink. 

Penny thinks back, shaking her head. Ace knew for 2 weeks that the movie was binned, “Why did he arrange for this meeting then? He said it would be a ‘Pre-Production Lunch’ to break the ice”

Avis laughs at this, “Is that so?” 

“I don’t see how this is funny.”

Avis flicks through the planner from earlier, “When things happen enough, you learn to see the humour in them, Ms Davis", Avis passes the planner to her, opened up at today’s date. She grabs their empty glasses, getting up for refills. Penny looks at the planner, more specifically the entry for this meeting, squinting to make out Ace’s sloppy handwriting. 

1pm: Lunch with Ms Davis 

3pm: Check-in at Grand Hotel (Honeymoon suite, have Stinson tell home I'm at a conference)

"He was leading you on sweetheart. He wanted to get your hopes up and be there when they fell to pieces." 

Penny puts everything together and feels nauseous. She can't believe how naive she had been thinking it was purely business. As she continues to spiral, a fresh whisky glass is placed in her field of vision. 

“Still sorry about the heart attack?" 

Penny looks up at the grinning woman, nonchalant, unapologetic, sitting there with a drink in hand. Penny downs her drink in one go, making Avis jump forward, shocked when Penny doesn't flinch at the sting.

“Guess it's back to Paramount I go, hopefully their pity gets the offer back on the table" Penny stands up, smoothing her skirt, swaying as the alcohol hits her. 

"That won't happen"

Penny raised an eyebrow, hand on hip. "You don't know how convincing I can be"

"I don't doubt it, but it won't get made at Paramount or anywhere. Section 34b,” Avis pulls out the contract, flipping to a specific section and reads aloud, "In the event of the movie no longer being produced, Ace Pictures regains the patent as long as the contract has been signed by the writer", Which it has"

Penny sits, grabbing the contract to see it herself. She reads over the section, hands gripping the pages, knuckles turning white around crumpling paper. Her jaw tightens again and she exhales forcefully from her nose as she chucks the document back to the table, leaning back in defeat. 

"You're screwed"

"Yeah no shit Avis" Penny spits back at a gobsmacked Avis.

"It's Mrs Amberg to you"

Penny scoffs, "That was before your husband fucked me over,” Shaking her head, Penny stands up heading towards the drinks cart, “You have no idea the lengths I went to for this to get made."

"Oh I can imagine, next time you try to use your looks in a negotiation, try and make it less obvious. This,” Avis gestures to Penny’s outfit, “ isn’t class, it’s desperation"

Desperation? How dare she. 

Penny turns on her heel and marches over to the desk, leaning over it making Avis sit back in her chair.

"Say what you will, but I only have to wear this costume for a few hours, but you, Mrs Avis Amberg, you're stuck in it for life, stuck with him." Penny flops down on her chair, waiting for a reaction from the woman opposite her. 

Avis’ face stays unchanged, but Penny saw her eye twitch. 

"You're upset, I'm going to let that slide"

Disappointed with the response, Penny sulks. A part of her wanted an argument, to let out the anger, the frustration, the embarrassment. She should apologise and leave but instead she rubs salt in the wound. 

"What changed?" Penny mumbles. 

"What?" 

"What changed? What film took my place?" 

Avis sighs and tosses Penny a folder, she opens it to see the script for Meg along with supporting documents. 

"It's going to change the industry, Ace Pictures will be at the forefront of a new age of stories" Penny sees Avis smile, not smirk or grin, a genuine smile. 

And Penny can see why, as she flicks through the script and treatment. It’s fresh, gripping and– Jack Castello is in it. Penny recognises that face the minute she finds his headshot amongst the documents. 

Many moons ago, Penny had interviewed a gas station that didn't just service cars, she didn't get hired but remembered Jack, a staff member coming out of a car she now realises was Avis' after seeing it today parked in the lot.

Avis sees her expression change as Penny shuts over the folder.

"Is everything OK?"

Penny fakes a smile,"Yes I just need to get going", she stands up, grabbing her things, heading for the door.

“No, something changed. I don't want you leaving until I know you're OK"

Penny stops in her tracks, still facing the door.

“It's just that I know where I stand now. Ace or not, the cards were stacked against me. Maybe if I took you to dreamland I'd still have a job."

Avis' eyes widen, with surprise and anger, she tries to speak. Penny speaks over her as she puts on her gloves and jacket.

"You're the exact same as him, vile" Penny's lip quivers. She knows in saying this she is saying goodbye to her career. She knows the minute she leaves, Avis will make sure every studio in town blacklists her. She doesn’t want any part of this industry if these are people she needs to entertain, regardless of how painful it is to walk away.

Penny opens the door when a hand comes from behind, forcing it shut. She doesn’t know how Avis got across the room so fast but now she’s right at her back.

"Take that back" Despite her calm voice, Penny can hear the hurt hidden in her words. 

"Now look who's desperate" Penny moves to open the door again but instead gets pinned to the door, arm twisted behind her back. 

"I'll ask again, take that back" her breath tickling Penny's ear. The closeness of the position makes her shudder, Avis notices and smiles. 

“So you worked with Jack? How come I never saw you at the pumps?" Avis rests her chin on Penny's shoulder, she tries to pull away, but Avis uses her other hand to hold her shoulder.

"I didn't work there!" Penny protests resting her forehead against the door. 

"But you've been?" Avis hums, letting go of her arm, squeezing Penny’s shoulders. Penny subconsciously leans back into the feeling.

"...I interviewed when I first moved here" This pulled a laugh out of the woman at her back. 

"Aw did Ernie reject you?" 

"No, I just didn't want to deal with certain clientele" 

"What clientele? Older men?"

"It was more men in general"

"Well that's a shame" Avis moves her hands from Penny’s shoulders to her waist, feeling the muscles tense as her hands wander. She reaches for the door, locking it, making Penny freeze. 

"Turn around Penny" 

She sheepishly turns around, keeping herself pressed into the wall trying to build space between them, but as she does, Avis steps closer. No matter where she looks, Avis is there, in her peripheral vision, her perfume and hairspray filling the air around them.

"Tell me, would you have taken me to Dreamland?" Avis pouts, toying with the buttons on Penny’s jacket.

Penny blushes, biting her lip, she shyly makes eye contact with Avis. Having the woman so close and talking so suggestively, makes Penny giggle as she nods. 

"And if we take dreamland out of the equation, would you still want it?" 

Penny nods more confidently, looking down at Avis’s lips.

"And remember, I can't give you your picture back, I can't help your career at all, would you still want this? Want me?" 

Penny looks up to see Avis is now the one avoiding eye contact. She sees a different side to her, a vulnerability she suspects few are privy to. She looks away before Avis catches her staring. 

"Yes Mrs Amberg"  

"No, call me Avis" 

Penny is shocked by the new intimacy but welcomes it, "Yes Avis" 

"Good" Avis steps forward, hands on Penny’s cheeks, foreheads touching. Penny moves in more, but Avis pulls back. Penny whines, reaching for the other woman's waist, which is met with a slap on the hand.

"Please.." Penny pleads, rubbing her hand. Avis smiles, bringing the girl's hand to her mouth, placing a soft kiss on the back of it. 

"Later. Right now I want you to wait while I finish work. Will you be good for me?" Avis doesn’t need to repeat herself as Penny makes a B-line for the sofa, reaching for the nearest magazine, leg bouncing, desperate for time to move quickly. 

Avis watches the scene for a second before making her way back to her desk. The pile of work seems more interesting now that she has something to look forward to once it’s done. Someone to go home with. Who wants to go home with her. How exciting.

I'M ALMOST FINISHED

I'm hoping to get it finished tonight, and then send it off for editing.

So, unless I get told that the entire thing needs a rework (entirely possible, I've been working on this for almost two months so my brain is doing that thing it does when you look at a word for too long it ceases to look like a word - except for all my goals for this chapter) it'll be up tomorrow night.

I've finally been getting some free time and I am HUSTLING I was even working on some bits on the bus home today:

29/03:

I can sum up my week by describing my last three hours: I've been thrown up on twice and spent the time since the sick twins fell asleep washing vomit covered towels and working on an assignment.

Earlier this week I did find time to add another thousand+ words to the chapter though, so progress continues however much it has been hindered by... well, everything. I can give a little spoiler and say I've been writing dialogue for the Bennets! It's been awhile since I last got to play with their different temperaments and speech styles so I'm enjoying it immensely. I even went looking for an extract Mary could quote (which is also why I so easily remembered a relevant quotation from a conduct book for that 'Is Darcy a Virgin?' post, lol) because I imagine she's been moralising about marriage a lot lately.

21/03:

Nothing this weekend.

Sorry it's been so long, it's been ROUGH since the last chapter came out. Four or five things happening (most unexpectedly) which all require more than usual focus, energy, time, etc and all back-to-back and/or overlapping. My brain has been running on fumes for weeks. I'll talk more about the major ones when I eventually get this chapter out but you know about the cyclone and I replied to an ask mentioning we lost Husband's beloved childhood cat.

I put the twins in for an extra day of day-care this week so I could have some sort of recovery and honestly was too drained to even watch a movie. Classic burn out, but three days later and I'm feeling much more recovered. Hoping I'll get some free time this weekend!

The other day, my friend wasn’t feeling well and they have a crush on Oran. So, in an attempt to make them happy, I wrote a silly little oc x reader thing…

Disclaimer: I’m so weird about sharing my writing, because it’s a skill I don’t practice often or put as much time into compared to art… I’m trying to get better at being perceived in general and knowing it’s okay if people see my work when it’s not perfect. So here goes…

Optional Context: Oran exists in a post apocalyptic universe where he lost a lot of people he cared about to a pandemic… Canonically the sickness that caused the apocalypse is not around anymore. Humans successfully eradicated it with our own antibiotics, immune systems and just general health practice, but not before it took out more than half the population leaving things in this world very different… and while Oran is aware of the absence of this past threat, he’d still constantly worry himself half to death over you at the slightest sign of a cold…

It’s only a stuffy nose and mild fever, but you’d think you were terminally ill with the way Oran is fretting over you. He refuses to leave your side, constantly reminding you to drink plenty of water. He’s not particularly skilled at cooking, but you can tell he’s been practicing- just for you. He does his best to make your favorites, things that’d be easy to eat while you’re sick. He urges you to eat enough, even when you don’t really have an appetite. He’s insistent, but never forceful, coming only from a place of gentle concern. He keeps going out of his way to make sure you’re comfortable. Do you need another pillow? blanket? Your water glass never makes it below half. He encourages you to get plenty of rest, yet checks your breath while you’re sleeping. Can’t be too carful.

When you do finally fall asleep, though you were alone initially, you unsurprisingly wake up to massive arms wrapping gently but securely around you. Entangled in too many limbs longer than you are tall, his form protectively encircles you. His torso, even when resting on his side, rises high above your lounging form creating an all encompassing wall; so impossibly big yet never imposing. With the added length of his tail, he makes less of a “big spoon” and more of a complete surrounding circle. You feel so supported, so cared for, so loved.

Even if you are technically trapped in a cage of his limbs, unable to move, you don’t feel worried. That’s the only way he’d be able to get some rest of his own, after all; knowing you’re safe and sound in his arms. Otherwise he’d likely worry himself into insomnia, poor guy.

Eventually you feel his arms shift slightly, loosening their hold on you enough for you to turn around to face him. His sleeping face is only inches from yours, and far too big for you to see all at once from this close angle. His warm breaths wash over you, less steady now as he wakes. Inhuman eyes flicker open and eventually focus on you. There was a time when you found them unsettling, but you’re so accustomed to them now. Not strange or scary, just him. A sweet smile spreads on his face as he meets your gaze and you can’t help but smile back.

Taking note of the proximity, you remember… you’re sick! For a moment, you pull back, worrying you might get him sick too, but he quickly puts you at ease, informing you he “can’t get sick.” You have trouble wrapping your head around that, but with how quickly you’ve seen his injuries heal in the past, you can believe it. He pulls you in closer, hugging you to his chest. From your position, you feel his voice more than you hear it. His lips to your ear as he whispers, “even if I could get sick, you’d be worth the risk.”
