"An AI-equipped foot scanner placed at one’s bedside could be a lifesaving companion to those living with a risk of heart failure.
Developed by Heartfelt Technologies in concert with the UK’s National Institute of Health, the scanner takes 1,800 photos of a person’s two feet and analyzes them for signs of a fluid buildup called oedema, one of three best indicators of oncoming heart failure.
Heart failure occurs when the heart’s inability to pump blood properly results in a buildup of fluid in the lungs and a lack of blood-derived oxygen reaching vital organs.
Dr. Philip Keeling, the lead author on a study debuting the invention who is also a consultant cardiologist at the South Devon National Health Service Foundation Trust, explained why such a device would be a key tool in combating heart failure, something which affects 1 million Brits every year.
“This device detects one of the big three warning signs for people with heart failure before they end up in hospital,” he wrote, according to the BBC.
“Only about half of people admitted to hospital with heart failure currently get assigned an early review by a heart failure nurse who can check to see if they are suffering a harmful build-up of fluid because their heart is not working properly.”
“Amid a shortage of heart failure nurses, a device like this can be like a virtual nurse, tracking people’s health.”

The study which Dr. Keeling helped run involved 26 patients across five NHS trusts. Alerts given by the device of potential heart failure came between eight and 19 days in advance of a hospitalization, giving a mean prediction time of 13 days, which is enough for measures to be taken that could prevent hospitalizations.
Six hospitalizations occurred during the trial period, and the device accurately predicted 5 of them. 82% of patients decided to keep the device after it ended.
“This small study suggests a simple device could significantly improve outcomes for at-risk patients with heart failure by keeping them out of hospital,” said Dr. Bryan Williams. Chief Scientific and Medical Officer at the British Heart Foundation which was not involved with the study."

KISEKI: DEAR TO ME Ep. 12
#kiseki: dear to me#kisekiedit#kdtm#kiseki dear to me#ai di x chen yi#chen yi x ai di#nat chen#chen bowen#louis chiang#chiang tien#jiang dian#uservid#userspicy#userrain#userspring#pdribs#userjjessi#*cajedit#*gif#chen yi is really sitting there the whole time with only one thought in his mind and it is: i am gonna kiss this man. and then he does!!#okay but heres where i gotta get analytical about it bc ppl will say blah blah theyre so good at miscommunication and im sorry but NO#THEY ARE THE OPPOSITE. when ai di runs away at the end of ep10 after chen yi says he's figured it out and next time he'll do it for real-#chen yi does not seek ai di out Once after that nor does he try to force him into any admissions. HONESTLY HE DOESNT SINCE THE EP10 BAR#he LETS AI DI COME TO HIM EVERY. TIME. he lies a little to keep ai di from running but he doesnt ever actually force ai di to return to him#any time AFTER he CONFIRMS ai di has real feelings for him-which he does during the bar scene. there was no miscommunication there#it was only listening and observing. and chen yi doesnt push farther than offering gifts or that little lie because he wants ai di -#All of ai di. the truest parts of ai di.... he wants the REAL AI DI the one he knows and loves - to come to him of his own volition#in Whatever Form That May Be. because he loves him!! & in this case the form is in torture and accusations bc chen yi's lie has been caught#but chen yi is nothing less than DELIGHTED. bc AI DI STILL CAME. its further proof of ai di's feelings for him and chen yi loves it#& now it's chen yi's turn to show ai di all the ways in which he loves and belongs to him. its time to play his hand after waiting so long

Scientists have devised a free AI algorithm that they believe will make finding new medicines far more efficient. DrugSynthMC can generate thousands of brand new, virtual drug molecules in seconds for screening and testing. It can adapt to whatever "target" molecule is inputted, creating a library of drug candidates to test against this target, before optimizing the ones that work to make them still better. Available via Open Source, it can generate 10,000 molecules to fit a particular target in 0.75 seconds.

I have a work thing to go to where they plan to show us how to use AI sensibly to improve our creativity, among other things. I’m dreading it due to my personal anti-generative AI stance, but will go to broaden my awareness.
If I don’t like something, I should still know what it’s about and understand what people are doing. I guess I’ll see for myself whether the way they’re suggesting we use it is ethical or not. For example, I don’t have an issue with spelling or grammar checking, or analysis of what I’ve written myself. I do have an issue with telling a program to generate paragraphs or descriptions based on an idea when writing fiction.
Another place I’m involved with is offering a seminar on using AI to translate your work into other languages, and claims the program works well. I also have issues with that, due to having met translators here on tumblr, and being aware that we as people understand nuance in a way machines can’t.
If anyone has thoughts on these things, you’re welcome to drop into my inbox.

AI exists and there's nothing any of us can do to change that.
If you have concerns about how AI is being/will be used the solution is not to abstain - it's to get involved.
Learn about it, practice utilising AI tools, understand it. Ignorance will not protect you, and putting your fingers in your ears going 'lalalala AI doesn't exist I don't acknowledge it' won't stop it from affecting your life.
The more the general population fears and misunderstands this technology, the less equipped they will be to resist its influence.

Disclaimer: Taxes are due April 15th if it's your first time doing taxes, I highly recommend using FreeTaxUSA. It's free and simple to use and not TurboTax.
Now onto the post
I finished doing my taxes last night and doing that after seeing so much AI slop online, I'm reminded why I hate generative AI. I have never thought once in my life that I want to watch a movie made by generative AI or wanted to see artwork made by AI. However, I would kill to have an AI that would do my taxes.
If the IRS made an AI that would do your taxes for you, I'd be over the moon.
No one wants to do their taxes, it's already busy work, and it's a task that everyone just want to get done. Just to understand how annoying it was to do my taxes, I literally turned down the opportunity to get more money because I just wanted to be done as soon as possible.
Not to mention, filing taxes is a great job for an AI to do. AI is great with numbers and comparing them quickly that something like filing taxes should be easy for it to get right. An AI would've made my night so much easier but instead of funding this, we're funding AI that wastes gallons of water and electricity to make things that look like garbage.
AI can be the future. It really can help us but instead, we have this.

Had an AI user tell me (an artist) that artists shouldn’t want credit and that people only ask for credit because they selfishly want recognition or desire money.
He has yet to realize the power I wield to draw him mpreg style and curse his bloodline. Crediting the artist is easy if I can make you never forget.
