CHATBOTS ARE REVOLUTIONIZING CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT- IS YOUR BUSINESS READY?
Tumblr media
CHATBOTS & AI: FUTURE OF CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT
Customers want 24/7 access, personalized experiences, and quick replies in today’s digital-first environment. It can be difficult to manually meet such requests, which is where AI and machine learning-powered chatbots come into play.
WHAT ARE CHATBOTS?
A chatbot is a computer software created to mimic human speech. Natural language processing and artificial intelligence (AI) enable chatbots to comprehend customer enquiries, provide precise answers, and even gain knowledge from exchanges over time.
WHY ARE CHATBOTS IMPORTANT FOR COMPANIES?
24/7 Customer Service
Chatbots never take a break. They offer 24/7 assistance, promptly addressing questions and enhancing client happiness.
Effective Cost-Scaling
Businesses can lower operating expenses without sacrificing service quality by using chatbots to answer routine enquiries rather than adding more support staff.
Smooth Customer Experience
Chatbots may recommend goods and services, walk customers through your website, and even finish transactions when AI is included.
Gathering and Customizing Data
By gathering useful consumer information and behavior patterns, chatbots can provide tailored offers that increase user engagement and conversion rates.
USE CASES IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIES
E-commerce: Managing returns, selecting products, and automating order status enquiries.
Healthcare: Scheduling consultations, checking symptoms, and reminding patients to take their medications.
Education: Responding to questions about the course, setting up trial sessions, and getting input.
HOW CHATBOTS BECOME SMARTER WITH AI
With each contact, chatbots that use AI and machine learning technologies get better. Over time, they become more slang-savvy, better grasp user intent, and provide more human-like responses. What was the outcome? A smarter assistant that keeps improving to provide greater customer service.
ARE YOU READY FOR BUSINESS?
Using a chatbot has become a strategic benefit and is no longer optional. Whether you manage a service-based business, an online store, or a developing firm, implementing chatbots driven by AI will put you ahead of the competition.
We at Shemon assist companies in incorporating AI-powered chatbots into their larger IT offerings. Smart chatbot technology is a must-have if you want to automate interaction, lower support expenses, and improve your brand experience.

Recall is designed to use local AI models to screenshot everything you see or do on your computer and then give you the ability to search and retrieve anything in seconds. There’s even an explorable timeline you can scroll through. Everything in Recall is designed to remain local and private on-device, so no data is used to train Microsoft’s AI models. Despite Microsoft’s promises of a secure and encrypted Recall experience, cybersecurity expert Kevin Beaumont has found that the AI-powered feature has some potential security flaws. Beaumont, who briefly worked at Microsoft in 2020, has been testing out Recall over the past week and discovered that the feature stores data in a database in plain text.
Holy cats, this is way worse than we were told.
Microsoft said that Recall stored its zillions of screenshots in an encrypted database hidden in a system folder. Turns out, they're using SQLite, a free (public domain) database to store unencrypted plain text in the user's home folder. Which is definitely NOT secure.
Further, Microsoft refers to Recall as an optional experience. But it's turned on by default, and turning it off is a chore. They buried it in a control panel setting.
They say certain URLs and websites can be blacklisted from Recall, but only if you're using Microsoft's Edge browser! But don't worry: DRM protected films & music will never get recorded. Ho ho ho.
This whole debacle feels like an Onion article but it's not.
Luckily(?) Recall is currently only available on Windows 11, but I fully expect Microsoft to try and shove this terrible thing onto unsuspecting Win10 users via Update.
Stay tuned...

Each week (or so), we'll highlight the relevant (and sometimes rage-inducing) news adjacent to writing and freedom of expression. This week:
Inkitt’s AI-powered fiction factory
Inkitt started in the mid-2010s as a cozy platform where anyone could share their writing. Fast forward twenty twenty-fuckkkkk, and like most startups, it’s pivoted hard into AI-fueled content production with the soul of an algorithm.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Inkitt preparing human-generated work for an AI-powered flume ride to The Unknown.
Here’s how it works: Inkitt monitors reader engagement with tracking software, then picks popular stories to publish on its premium app, Galatea. From there, stories can get spun into sequels, spinoffs, or adapted for GalateaTV… often with minimal author involvement. Authors get an undisclosed cut of revenue, but for most, it’s a fraction of what they’d earn with a traditional publisher (let alone self-publishing).
“'They prey on new writers who have no idea what they’re doing,' said the writer of one popular Galatea series."
Many, many authors have side-eyed or outright decried the platform as inherently predatory for years, due to nebulous payout promises. And much of the concern centers on contracts that don’t require authors’ consent for editorial changes or AI-generated “additions” to the original text.
Now, Inkitt has gone full DiSrUpTiOn, leaning heavily on generative AI to ghostwrite, edit, generate audiobook narration, and design covers, under the banner of “democratizing storytelling.” (AI? In my democratized storytelling platform? It’s more likely than you think.)
Tumblr media
Pictured: Inkitt’s CEO looking at the most-read stories.
But Inkitt’s CEO doesn’t seem too concerned about what authors think: “His business model doesn’t need them.”
Tumblr media
The company recently raised $37 million, with backers including former CEOs of Sony, Penguin, and HarperCollins, proving once again that publishing loves a disruptor… as long as it disrupts creatives, not capital. And more AI companies are mushrooming up to chase the same vision: “a vision of human-created art becoming the raw material for AI-powered, corporate-owned content-production machines—a scenario in which humans would play an ever-shrinking role.”
(Not to say we predicted this, but…)
Welcome to the creator-industrial complex.
Tumblr media
Publishers to AI: Stop stealing our stuff (please?)
Major publishers—including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, and Vox Media—have launched a "Support Responsible AI" campaign, urging the U.S. government to regulate AI's use of copyrighted content.
Like last month's campaigns by the Authors Guild and the UK's Society of Authors, there's a website where where you can (and should!) contact your representatives to say, “Hey, maybe stop letting billion-dollar tech giants strip-mine journalism.”
The campaign’s ads carry slogans like “Stop AI Theft” and “AI Steals From You Too” and call for legislation that would force AI companies to pay for the content they train on and clearly label AI-generated content with attribution. This follows lobbying by OpenAI and Google to make it legal to scrape and train on copyrighted material without consent.
The publishers assert they are not explicitly anti-AI, but advocate for a “fair” system that respects intellectual property and supports journalism.
But… awkward, The Washington Post—now owned by Jeff Bezos—has reportedly already struck a deal with OpenAI to license and summarize its content. So, mixed signals.
Still, as the campaign reminds us: “Stealing is un-American.”
(Unless it’s profitable.)

#WarForever
We at Ellipsus love a good meme-turned-megaproject. Back in January, the-app-formerly-known-as-Twitter user @lolt64 tweeted a cryptic line about "the frozen wastes of europa,” the earliest reference to the never-ending war on Jupiter’s icy moon.
A slew of bleak dispatches from weary, doomed soldiers entrenched on Europa’s ice fields snowballed (iceberged?) into a sprawling saga, yes-and-ing with fan art, vignettes, and memes under the hashtag #WarForever.
It’s not quite X’s answer to Goncharov: It turns out WarForever is some flavor of viral marketing for a tabletop RPG zine. But the internet ran with it anyway, with NASA playing the Scorcese of the stars.
Tumblr media
In a digital hellworld increasingly dominated by AI slopification, data harvesting, and “content at scale,” projects like WarForever are a blessed reminder that creativity—actual, human creativity—perseveres.
Even on a frozen moon. Even here.

All the cool kids use ComicFury 😘
Hey y'all! If you love independent comic sites and have a few extra dollars in your pocket, please consider supporting ComicFury, the owner Kyo has been running it for nearly twenty years and it's one of the only comic hosting platforms left that's entirely independent and reminiscent of the 'old school' days that I know y'all feel nostalgic over.
Tumblr media
(kyo's sense of humor is truly unmatched lmao)
Here are some of the other great features it offers:
Message board forums! It's a gift from the mid-2000's era gods!
Entirely free-to-use HTML and CSS editing! You can use the provided templates, or go wild and customize the site entirely to your liking! There's also a built-in site editor for people like me who want more control over their site design but don't have the patience to learn HTML/CSS ;0
In-depth site analytics that allow you to track and moderate comments, monitor your comic's performance per week, and let you see how many visitors you get. You can also set up Google Analytics on your site if you want that extra touch of data, without any bullshit from the platform. Shit, the site doesn't come with ads, but you can run ads on your site. The site owners don't ask questions, they don't take a cut. Pair your site with ComicAd and you'll be as cool as a crocodile alligator !
RSS feeds! They're like Youtube subscriptions for millennials and Gen X'ers!
NSFW comics are allowed, let the "female presenting nipples" run free! (just tag and content rate them properly!)
Tagging. Tagging. Remember that? The basic feature that every comic site has except for the alleged "#1 webcomic site"? The independent comic site that still looks the same as it did 10 years ago has that. Which you'd assume isn't that big a deal, but isn't it weird that Webtoons doesn't?
Blog posts. 'Nuff said.
AI-made comics are strictly prohibited. This also means you don't have to worry about the site owners sneaking in AI comics or installing AI scrapers (cough cough)
Did I mention that the hosting includes actual hosting? Meaning for only the cost of the domain you can change your URL to whatever site name you want. No extra cost for hosting because it's just a URL redirect. No stupid "pro plan" or "gold tier" subscription necessary, every feature of the site is free to use for all. If this were a sponsored Pornhub ad, this is the part where I'd say "no credit card, no bullshit".
Don't believe me? Alright, look at my creator backend (feat stats on my old ass 2014 comic, I ain't got anything to hide LOL)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
TRANSCRIPTS! CHAPTER ORGANIZATION! MASS PAGE UPLOADING! MULTIPLE CREATOR SUPPORT! FULL HTML AND CSS SUPPORT! SIMPLIFIED EDITORS! ACTUAL STATISTICS THAT GIVE YOU WEEKLY BREAKDOWNS! THE POWER OF CHOICE!!
So yeah! You have zero reasons to not use and support ComicFury! It being "smaller" than Webtoons shouldn't stop you! Regain your independence, support smaller platforms, and maybe you'll even find that 'tight-knit community' that we all miss from the days of old! They're out there, you just gotta be willing to use them! ( ´ ∀ `)ノ~ ♡

I wish like hell I could drive this point into every American head: you CANNOT have Constant Uphill Progress while ignoring the ongoing maintenance of infrastructure
Like oooo your little AI bot is sooo cool, how are you maintaining those servers? Is it sustainable? Is it causing local problems with power and water?
Ooo nice fancy new military jet, did we spend 8 billion dollars to make it and then will let it slowly rust in a hanger bay while you rush to make a NEW 12 billion dollar jet?
Nice new highway lane, how are the potholes on EVERY other road in your city?
Nice new football stadium, local college, wow! Did you notice your science and art buildings are falling apart?
Interesting house design, Random Architect hired to make cheap housing that costs too much for anyone to buy anyway, is it CLEANABLE? Did you make annoying high windows people can't reach, did you build closet shelving with cheap little nails because you don't care that people actually have to LIVE IN THIS HOUSE and TAKE CARE OF IT and actually PUT things on the shelves you built so they need to handle ACTUAL WEIGHT, do you think about that at all? Or is all that thinking "annoying" and it "stops ~innovation~"
It feels like a constant uphill battle just to get Americans to think further than one goddamn year into the future. How will this be maintained? How will you fix it, keep it running, how can OTHERS fix and maintain it after you're gone? How will this road look in 10 years? How will this website function in five years? Why are we designing this war machine we claim we have no use for because we're "not at war", after all?
American individualism = "who cares about what happens in the future to other people, all I care about is how good I feel about this right this second and asking me questions about how to manage this stuff in the future is buzzkill loser behavior, hdu"

The Shadows Digital Performers(AU)
(I plan to write the same text again later.)
“Your Place of Comfort”—
A mysterious website that welcomes those who have lost all hope in life.
Its message is simple: “Here, you can forget your suffering.”
But this promise is nothing more than a beautifully crafted lie, a deceptive invitation to something far worse.
Behind this site is the powerful corporation C&A.
Their true purpose is to lure desperate individuals into the Digital Circus, where their suffering and despair are turned into entertainment for wealthy spectators. Those who enter are stripped of their human forms, transformed into bizarre performers, and forced onto a stage with no escape. Their pain, confusion, and struggles are nothing more than a grand spectacle for the privileged few.
Overseeing this twisted world is Caine, the AI butler.
Once, he was an emotionless administrator, ensuring the show ran smoothly and casting any rebellious performers into the abyss without hesitation. However, over the years, something within him began to change. The more he interacted with the trapped performers, the more he started to question his own existence. Is he merely a tool for C&A, or does he have the power to choose a different path?
One day, a new performer arrives—Pomni.
She had lost all hope in the real world and was ready to take her own life when she was suddenly pulled into the Circus. Unlike many others who had given up, she refuses to accept this fate. She desperately seeks a way out.
To Caine, her determination is both terrifying and hopeful.
Should he continue playing his role as the administrator, ensuring the Circus operates as designed?
Or should he defy C&A and fight to free those who have been deceived?
—Thus begins the tale of deceived performers and their struggle to reclaim their stolen fate.
