Empire Magazine just gave us a second still from A3 and look how they are not afraid to show plot relevant stuff. Spider gets captured by RDA againa nd he ends up, again, in Quaritch's hands.

We see further proof that Spider is going to live with Metkayina. Just like we saw in leaked script where they send him back there after his upgrade. He has new hair, new stripes, new clothes. And that Reef Na'vi tattoo. Or at least something that looks like a tattoo since it seems smeared just like his stripes look washed off.

This looks like Quaritch is trying to explain or maybe even apologize. He is hunched (this posture makes him look even less evil Quaritch than the hoodie) and he's doing that nervous thing with hands and he's smiling. That man has never been so nervous in either of his lives. Trying to convince your teenage son who hates you to give you Nth chance is tough. Everything about this is so unQuaritch-like.

But then Slang is pulling the l-word here so it looks like Quaritch has discovered a whole new range of emotions.

Too bad it also looks like he's going to try his old tricks to get his way.

Spider really has been dealt the shittiest hand. What do you do when you know you can count on someone to pull you out of any shit by any means necessary but they are also actively working for people who put you in those situations. Much of the time it's the consequences of their own actions.

Spider clearly wishes he could just cut Quaritch off his life. But he's probably also just been saved again by Quaritch - if the bruises are anything to go by here. It'd be so much easier if Quaritch was just bad to him like to everyone else. If he was just a bad guy. If they weren't family.

But Spider would also be dead then.

That back and forth of Quaritch being an awful person but Spider still being able to count on his help must be as confusing for Spider as love is for Quaritch.

I am having another go at reading ASOH once I saw your gifs of movie!verse Lex Luthor. The whole time, I had been imagining, like... President Luthor from the comics. Bald and more importantly around 50-ish. Him being a 20-something pathetic meow meow makes *so much more sense*, haha.

I would also be pretty turned off from the story if I was imagining non-BVS Lex, so I totally understand 🤣 the Lex in ASOH is a tiny (compared to Bruce and Clark) redheaded omega with an attitude problem whose every word is questionable and concerning.

I definitely leaned more into the BVS characterization for him, and not the traditional Lex Luthor characterization most are familiar with. Since he's technically the junior Lex, it works! Because you can still refer to the big bad OG Lex Luthor (his dad). Who I absolutely believe was an alpha (big, tall etc).

There was Chuuya, too, but the necessity tainted the bond, if he could call it that. Chuuya kept him around for survival, an incredibly naïve and ironic choice, in Dazai’s opinion. Still, there was something unspoken beneath the repulsion shaped oddly like recognition. Like bitter longing. Unacknowledged and uncomfortable.

The ADA needed him, and perhaps he needed them too. The agency allowed him to fulfill his promise—quite possibly the one thing that kept him alive. They relied on his guidance, his insight, his strategizing. He pushed himself into every corner of the group—the relentless pranks, the knowing glances, the thoughtful words—all in a desperate attempt to appear as someone who was meant to be there.

Atsushi and Akutagawa respected him. They turned to him for wisdom, for approval, for courage. Through him they found their reasons to live. He often wondered why it was so different for him. Painful irony.

Beneath every ounce of closeness was a heap of fear and alienation. An understanding that to truly be known by anyone was impossible. A desperate desire to entertain and keep a safe distance. Everything terrified him, but the worst of all was always shaped like kindness and connection.
