Digital BSS Solutions Drive Cloud-First Agility in Telecom
Telecom operators face one of the most volatile and demanding technology markets. Customers demand fast service delivery, flexible billing, and personalized experiences. Meanwhile, new services like 5G and IoT require systems that scale quickly and work seamlessly.
Sadly, most providers still use legacy stacks. Legacy stacks are the old systems. They stifle agility. They drive up operating expenses. Most significantly, they hinder innovation.
To meet today's expectations, telecom operators are investing in digital BSS solutions. These support automation, reduce time-to-market and allow real-time customer interaction. Combined with telco cloudification efforts, the outcome is a leaner, more agile telecom business.
The shift to digital is no longer an option. It's the path to competitive success. It begins with the right telecom digital BSS solution: one engineered for speed, scale, and change.
Getting Unshackled by Legacy Constraints
Legacy stacks are heavyweight. Fixes require weeks. Tailoring demands extended cycles. Integration consistently falls apart. Such problems burn cycles and budgets.
Digital BSS for telcos upends this math. Cloud-native architecture unbundles functions so telcos can upgrade features separately. Teams are set up instead of code. This reduces development expenditure and accelerates deployment.
Furthermore, microservices and containerized architecture enable modular rollouts. Telcos can modify billing rules or introduce new plans without disrupting the system.
Supporting the Push Toward Cloud-Native Networks
The move toward cloud-native networks has already begun. In the U.S., over 60% of telecom operators have started shifting core systems to the cloud, according to a Deloitte survey.
This shift is not possible without compatible software. Here, digital BSS solutions align perfectly. They enable API-driven integration with both legacy and cloud-native components. As network functions move to containers and virtual machines, business processes must keep up.
A modern telecom digital BSS solution supports this shift. It doesn’t just process orders or calculate invoices. It syncs with distributed systems in real time, making the cloudification of telecom technologies and equipment seamless.
Shortening Time to Market for New Offers
Time is of the essence. Prepaid bundles or enterprise 5G offerings—customers want options in an instant. Telcos can't afford to spend months setting up offers.
With digital BSS for telecom, offer creation is quicker. Teams can test, change, and roll out services without having to write new code. Drag-and-drop catalog builders and dynamic policy engines minimize IT dependency.
This adaptability enables experimentation by sales and marketing teams. They can create promotions, try out market segments, and refine based on customer feedback. Briefly, the idea-to-launch cycle is reduced.
Facilitating Scalable Growth Without Overloading Infrastructure
With every additional user, device, and service added by telcos, back-end systems need to keep pace. Legacy BSS tools buckle under the load. Cloud-based tools automatically scale.
Telco cloudification needs BSS systems that flexibly adapt without disruption. A contemporary stack processes millions of transactions without human intervention. When using behavior changes, the system increases or decreases demand.
This elasticity saves on infrastructure. It also ensures service reliability under peak loads.
Providing Operational Resilience Through Automation
Automation is not merely about efficiency. It's about control and accuracy. Digital BSS solutions provide proactive monitoring, exception handling, and rule-based decisions.
For instance, failed payments automatically cause retries. Downgrades occur in real time when usage limits are crossed. Alerts notify teams before a problem becomes apparent to customers.
This degree of automation provides telcos with greater control. It also allows for freeing up resources for strategic work.
Simplifying Partner Ecosystem Management
Telecom service delivery often involves multiple vendors. From content partners to hardware resellers, the ecosystem is complex. Managing them manually is difficult.
Digital BSS for telecom provides partner portals, revenue sharing rules, and real-time settlement tools. This simplifies onboarding, monitoring, and collaboration.
With APIs and real-time data exchange, partnerships scale without added complexity. Telcos can onboard a new content partner or wholesale distributor in days, not months.
Built for 5G, Not Just Compatible with It
5G demands more than speed. It requires billing by slices, real-time quotas, and ultra-low latency provisioning. A legacy BSS cannot meet these needs.
A 5g ready BSS stack supports dynamic monetization. Whether it’s IoT, private networks, or low-latency apps, the BSS adapts. Operators can launch usage-based billing models, implement flexible SLAs, and charge per service slice.
This adaptability is built-in, not bolted on. The system recognizes new service types and applies the right rules without delay.
Making Cloudification of Telecom Technologies and Equipment Possible
Hardware is becoming virtual. Routers, switches, and even base stations are moving to cloud-based models. But without BSS support, this hardware shift breaks workflows.
That’s why the cloudification of telecom technologies and equipment needs a BSS layer that speaks the same language. One that supports virtualization, orchestration, and software-defined control.
Digital BSS solutions act as the connective tissue. They ensure that virtualized infrastructure and business logic are aligned.
Final Thoughts: Telecom’s Path Forward Is Cloud-Led and BSS-Supported
Telcos don't merely require newer systems. They require smarter systems. The power to innovate fast, handle complicated services, and provide real-time experiences is possible only through digital architecture.
A next-generation telecom digital BSS solution makes that possibility within reach. It enables operational flexibility. It enables service agility. It reduces the total cost of ownership while opening new revenue streams.
More importantly, it aligns with the goals of telco cloudification. It ensures that your network, IT, and commercial strategies are in sync. No more silos. No more delays.
Whether you’re enabling 5G monetization or digitizing legacy systems, digital BSS for telecom is your launchpad. It empowers operators to compete, grow, and evolve without being tied down by aging infrastructure.

Scientists discover "interstellar object" hurtling through our solar system
Astronomers have discovered what seems to be the first "interstellar object" speeding through our solar system at 15.8 miles per second. Discovered October 19 with the University of Hawaii's Pan-STARRS 1 telescope, the object, dubbed A/2017 U1, is less than a quarter-mile in diameter. While scientists say it's most likely an asteroid or perhaps a comet from elsewhere in our galaxy, they can't be certain of its composition or where it may have come from until they collect more telescope data. (Members of UFO cults, please report for duty.)
From NASA
:
"This is the most extreme orbit I have ever seen," said Davide Farnocchia, a scientist at NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) at the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. "It is going extremely fast and on such a trajectory that we can say with confidence that this object is on its way out of the solar system and not coming back."
The object approached our solar system from almost directly "above" the ecliptic, the approximate plane in space where the planets and most asteroids orbit the Sun, so it did not have any close encounters with the eight major planets during its plunge toward the Sun. On Sept. 2, the small body crossed under the ecliptic plane just inside of Mercury's orbit and then made its closest approach to the Sun on Sept. 9. Pulled by the Sun's gravity, the object made a hairpin turn under our solar system, passing under Earth's orbit on Oct. 14 at a distance of about 15 million miles (24 million kilometers) -- about 60 times the distance to the Moon. It has now shot back up above the plane of the planets and, traveling at 27 miles per second (44 kilometers per second) with respect to the Sun, the object is speeding toward the constellation Pegasus...
"We have been waiting for this day for decades," said CNEOS Manager Paul Chodas. "It's long been theorized that such objects exist -- asteroids or comets moving around between the stars and occasionally passing through our solar system -- but this is the first such detection. So far, everything indicates this is likely an interstellar object, but more data would help to confirm it."

Why RESTful APIs Can’t Compete with the Event-Driven Approach to Microservices
Can RESTful APIs with microservices deliver when it comes to the critical real-time customer experience? Businesses in all industries and sectors have all sorts of real-time events coursing through them, including human actions, command and control instructions, sensor readings, news feeds, stock ticks, interest rate changes, process alerts, workflow notifications, fault detection, fraud detection – the list goes on!
The number of such events is increasing at an exponential rate. The challenge lies in sensing and capturing and responding to these events in real-time so you can deliver a higher quality of service, offer a better customer experience, and make more informed business decisions. In this post I aim to explain the limitations of RESTful APIs through an ecommerce microservices example. I also explain how an event mesh can help overcome the challenges. Read on to find out more.
The Rise of Microservices + RESTful APIs
To meet the demands of this real-time responsiveness and extreme scale, businesses recognized the need to innovate, modernize and digitally transform. As architectures and technologies evolved, monolithic applications got broken into coarse-grained services (service-oriented architecture) and now into fine-grained services (microservices).
Business capabilities can now be encapsulated as small, autonomous services and exposed via APIs that can be easily consumed by customers, partners, and 3rd parties. Docker and Kubernetes simplified the containerized deployment and orchestration of services, making it easier to scale and manage them.
The loosely coupled, cloud-native, flexible nature of using different technology stacks and containerized deployments across private cloud, multi-cloud, PaaS, serverless, IoT and edge computing devices have made microservices very popular.
RESTful APIs became a common choice for enabling interactions between microservices because of simplicity – services communicate directly and synchronously with each other over HTTP. Developers who have always programmed by making function/method/RPC calls and database read/writes found it easier to design resource-based APIs using the CRUD actions. And off course rich tooling like OpenAPI (Swagger) made it all quick and easy to use.
Tight Coupling and Orchestration Limit Your Real-Time Interactions with Microservices
As an example, let’s take a look at the RESTful API approach to a microservices use case for processing a customer order on an ecommerce platform.
A customer initiates an order via the Storefront Web app, which acts as the orchestrator by invoking the inventory, billing, and shipping services before acknowledging the order to the customer.
This is the sequence of events:
The Storefront app service calls inventory to reserve the product
The app service waits for the response from inventory
When the inventory system confirms availability, the app service then calls the billing service to validate and charge the customer credit card
The app service waits for the response from billing
When billing confirms that the transaction has succeeded, the app service then calls the shipping service to ship the order
As request/reply interactions, the communications between these microservices using REST APIs are inherently synchronous, so they need to happen one at a time, in a pre-arranged sequence, and each interaction blocks progress of the process until its completion. The interactions between different services, and updates to multiple services, are coordinated by an orchestrator, introducing a single point of failure.
The RESTful API approach for the Storefront Web App microservices architecture described above results in these limitations:
Poor Customer Experience – Response time to the user is a cumulative sum of response times of the inventory, billing, and shipping services. Any issue with either of these services means the user does not get a response.
Cascading Failure Scenarios – If the ”Back In-Stock Notifier” service fails, users will not be notified and the inventory service will never be updated. This would result in a lost order.
Lack of flexibility – To add new business capabilities/services (like fraud detection), you need to change the Storefront service or the billing service.
Poor Scalability/Resource Utilization – The shipping service becomes a bottleneck. To scale the shipping service, you also need to scale the Storefront and the inventory services since they are blocking it – a waste of resources because they are still in a blocked/wait state.
A recent Gartner Report states:
Applications become harder to scale and the web of connected APIs harder to manage, leading to ever-more tightly coupled systems. To move beyond the connected APIs and to enable more scalable, contextual and responsive digital business, application leaders add event-driven architecture (EDA) to the core of their platform and design capabilities.1
Let’s explore how event-driven architecture addresses these limitations and delivers on the real-time experience.
The Benefits of an Event-Driven Approach over RESTful APIs for Microservices
We can look at processing the same customer order from our previous example but, this time, with an event-driven approach.
The Storefront App, inventory, billing, and shipping services all connect to something called an event mesh. An event mesh is a network of interconnected event brokers that forms a configurable and dynamic infrastructure layer for decoupled applications, systems, and devices. In this case, the event brokers are Solace PubSub+ Event Brokers.
All communications between these services are loosely coupled, asynchronous events. The one-to-many publish/subscribe messaging pattern allowed for data to be published once and received by multiple, interested subscribers simultaneously. Services do not rely on a central controller, i.e. an orchestrator, to send and receive data.
Using this event-driven approach, these are some of the benefits the Storefront App can capitalize on:
Real-time Customer Experience/Better Response Times: Inventory, billing and shipping services are invoked asynchronously. Services can be executed in parallel, making the response time much faster. Real-time transmission of events (push vs. pull) means services interact with each other in a very robust and efficient manner.
Increased Flexibility and Agility: New services (like fraud detection) can be added without impacting other services. Microservices architecture and independent CI/CD pipelines for each means faster time-to-market for new business capabilities.
Improved Operational Efficiencies and Resiliency: If the ”Back In-Stock Notifier” service fails, the message is stored by the event broker and can be delivered when the service comes back online. Reliable delivery ensures eventual consistency and no data loss. A stateful intermediary also allows for additional fault tolerance, speed mismatches, and shock absorption during peak volumes.
Increased Versatility and Future Proof: If the shipping service becomes a bottleneck, it can be scaled by simply spinning up another instance quickly, making it a highly scalable architecture.
And most importantly, it doesn’t just stop here.
How an Event Mesh Supports Event-Driven Architecture
Although financial services have been the early adopters of event-driven architecture for market data and pricing distribution, event-driven thinking can help every business to deliver a quality service and real-time customer experience to gain a competitive advantage in their market. You can easily scale and extend an event mesh to:
Hook into your enterprise’s ERP, CRM, MDM, supply chain, analytics, AI, and ML applications
Provide edge connectivity to your IoT devices and sensors running at the retail stores, warehouses, distribution centre, and suppliers
Connect your services across environments, from on-prem to different private/public clouds
Solace also offers an event portal called PubSub+ Event Portal that makes it easier to design, develop and manage event-centric applications.
Think about your first morning coffee experience at a coffee shop. If the coffee shop followed the one-to-one model of RESTful API interactions with the microservices – one employee serving one customer – the same employee takes the order, serves the coffee, and takes the payment. In this instance, you would be waiting for your favourite coffee until all of the customers ahead of you are served by that one employee. Waiting time is directly proportional to the length of the queue.
If the coffee shop adopted the one-to-many model instead, each employee serves multiple customers. In this model, one employee will take the orders and the payments, and delegate tasks (making the coffee, serving the coffee) other employees— truly an event-driven advantage! Each customer is served quickly and efficiently instead of waiting for one person to do all the work.
Over the years, Solace has helped and continues to help businesses in financial services, aviation, retail, transport, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, field services, energy, telco, and more in their event-driven journey. If you would like to learn more, it only takes an event (phone call, sms, email) to reach us!

Is the future with snake(Python) or Coffee(Java) ?                                         Introduction I would suggest that the future will be enlightened with the development in Python. Python is a large heavily bodied nonvenomous constructor snake where java is a coffee. Seriously, even though I have been using Java for a long time and just started putting my hands on python, I found python really easy and an interesting programming language. You should apply for Online Python Classes in Lucknow to know more about python. Python vs. Java Python is a more productive language than Java. Python is an interpreted language with elegant syntax and makes it a very good option for scripting and rapid application development in many areas. Python is a dynamically typed programming language where there is no necessity of declaring variables whereas java is a statically typed programming language wherein variables are to be explicitly declared. Python-The King Maker Python’s real strengths have long been server side technology, software development by non-programmers and as an embedded scripting engine for trusted plugins and in those areas, it’s still powering ahead. Python Distribution In linux distribution like Debian or Fedora, the dynamic language interpreters will be Python and Perl. Apple has expressed their support for Python by building tools that rely on it. Python being the only dynamic language interpreter shipped as part of Mac OS X.  Microsoft ships their Python Tools for Visual Studio bundle. Google, of course, famously chose Python as the only dynamic language supported on their App Engine platform (and they employed Guido van Rossum and a number of other Python core developers). gcc and gdb both let you write plugins, and your language choices are C/C++ or Python (plus Lisp in the gcc case). Many other infrastructure level tools are going the same way. Fedora’s infrastructure is almost entirely written in Python, as is OpenStack. In multimedia development, Python will be a core part of your toolset, and Python is the key open source competitor to proprietary toolsets in the scientific community. The Natural Language Toolkit is a hugely powerful resource for many data mining applications, and Python is entwined deeply into the core of the financial sector as well. Python Development Many years ago a lot of formal education programs switched from C and C++ (or Pascal or Ada, etc) to Java for introductory programming courses. Now switching to Python, pushing Java into the role of an enterprise language used only for large and complex applications where the development overhead can be justified to some degree. Informal education programs are also favoring Python as the first “real world” application language that people are introduced to. OLPC chose Python, as did RaspberryPI which is the most Readability one. Role of few Python Tools The popularity of GREENLETS and GEVENT in the Python world, which permit the use of asynchronous IO capabilities with a threading-like programming style. The ongoing efforts around tweaking generator syntax and capabilities in Python core development could legitimately be summarized as “make it possible to write Twisted code in a way that doesn’t hurt people’s brains quite so much and without relying on the magical stack-switching assembly code needed for greenlets”. Tools like Kivy, which aim to make it easier to write mobile applications in Python. Python’s strength really lies in its ability to step away from traditional web technologies. Want to talk over a serial port to a piece of lab equipment or radio modem, Want to talk to telco gear through a custom C extension? We have a wide range of tools to support that in python, along with some great Asterisk bindings. Python also has many web framework options, like Pyramid and Flask, that let you more easily be selective in your choice of components than Django does. We even get into the potential long term implications of verbal and tactile interfaces like Siri and Baxter. Recent Release The recent 3.3 release included several elements aimed at making things easier for beginners, including improved error messages, an option to modify PATH in the Windows installer and the Python launcher, while the entire Python 3 series is aimed at embracing Unicode as part of the core of the language, allowing it to better reach beyond its original audience of users whose native alphabets could be expressed within the constraints of ASCII or an 8-bit encoding. Upcoming Python 3.4 is likely to bring improvements in the ability to switch the encoding of a stream “mid-flight”, as well as restoring some convenience APIs for the non-Unicode related uses of the encoding and decoding methods in Python 2. CONCLUSION Python’s future is looking very, very bright from where we see and assume that its future is assured. Python is far from perfect, and the same can be said for the ecosystem around us, you should learn python with MSMP Technologies, a Data Entry Company In Lucknow to know more about python. So yes, there are plenty of areas where Python should probably improve. But we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that many of the problems with Python (like binary distribution, dependency management and concurrency) are problems with software development generally, so there’s nowhere for people to go that will magically make those issues disappear.

Analytics and Closed-Loop Automation for Ultra Low Latency Networks
A leading financial services provider that delivers real-time information to global banks needed to introduce network analytics and closed-loop automation that delivers capacity management, performance and latency optimization, predictive analytics, network assurance, and SLA compliance.
Anuta Networks Overview
Anuta networks, we’re based in San Francisco Bay Area with customers and partners worldwide. Some of our leading customers as you can see here, very large Telcos and enterprise customers all over the world. And what we offer is called closed-loop automation that delivers orchestration, analytics, and telemetry for multi-vendor networks. We support 45 different vendors, and we orchestrate and automate networks across multiple domains whether it’s your data center, Campus, branch, the MPLS core network, and the SD-WAN as well.
Customer Profile & Requirements
So the case Sturdy today is about a financial services customer. They deliver financial news – stock data, as well as disclosure data to their customers and their main challenges, is about delivering this financial data within milliseconds to their customers. And their network engineers said “our network is a slave of the applications. Whatever the application wants, the network has to respond within milliseconds.” So they want to implement real-time network analytics, and they want to make the network very responsive to the application demands, and they want to do this within 500 milliseconds. So we’ll go into details as to how the Anuta’s ATOM is helping him deliver this demand from the applications.
Customer Requirements
So – a little bit more in detail; the requirements. The solution, the automation should be able to collect the data whether its streaming telemetry or traditional SNMP based data. And this all has to be analyzed and has to create reports and notifications within milliseconds. And this has to scale to thousands of devices and millions of interfaces and this has to be stored for more than a year for compliance purposes. And they want to make sure the platform is fully redundant, and there is no single point of failure. And this has to support open standards.
Analytics and Closed-Loop Automation: Interface Flapping
So the solution we offer as I said is closed loop automation. It’s best to explain using an example, let’s say you can define the baseline behavior for any network. Let’s say you’re looking at the interfaces – you can say I don’t expect this interface to flap more than two times in a day. Now you can define what you mean by that metric and how you want to collect it and how frequently you want us to monitor it.
And then the correlation engine is comparing the current behavior with the baseline behavior and based on the various deviations that are happening; it can automate the corrective actions. So for example, if the interfaces are flapping once or twice in an hour, you can open it as a ticket in a Service Now system. But if it’s like excessive flapping, then you can immediately shut down that interface. So we can introduce automatic remediation that works across multiple vendors using a workflow engine, and we can also integrate with tools like Grafana so we can visualize all the metrics and generate reports and compliance reports as well.
Anuta ATOM Architecture
This is a bit of detailed slide. It tries to explain how we achieved this. The ATOM platform is composed of many microservices. All of these are Docker containers. They provide individual functionality like discovering the devices, building the topology, collecting the telemetry data, creating a service chain across multiple vendor devices as well as delivering analytics and visualization of the network infrastructure. We integrate with 45 different vendors – all the leading vendors: Cisco, Arista, F5, Citrix, Juniper – you name it. We have it. All the networking related devices we can configure either using CLI, NETCONF, API or REST as well. And all of this data is stored in a time series database with which you can query their data and generate all kinds of reports. And we use kubernettes to manage the various Docker containers within the ATOM platform, so these can be deployed on-prem, or these can be deployed in public clouds like AWS and Azure as well.
Deployment Architecture
So here is the customer deployment – as you can see it’s a fully redundant design. They have multiple data centers – The two instances of the ATOM are synchronizing with each other. The policy data, as well as the times series data, is constantly synchronized so that you have a fully redundant design. And we will go through a short demo of how this whole integration looks like.
Device Onboarding and Topology
So let me switch to the demo. This is a recorded demo so I’ll try to pause it so you can follow along. So first we are going to show a dashboard of all the devices. We then discovered the devices; we can see the various devices, and the config and the ATOM is sucking up all the configuration data from all these vendors, and it normalizes it into a JSON object. So now it builds a topology of your network – it creates this concept of resource pools, and you can look into details of each of their devices. As you can see it overlays operational data on top of this topology. So that gives you full visibility into your entire geographical distribution.
Configure Pre-defined Telemetry Sensors
And then we are configuring telemetry data, the sensors – on this case we are configuring the interface statistics metric on the Cisco IOS-XR. You can decide exactly which data you want from this particular IOS. We are looking for interface status stats, and we can push this config across hundreds of devices. Now from a single GUI, you are configuring the Arista, the Cisco, the Juniper and ATOM will go through a workflow engine. It’s going to show you now the model that it is going to push to the device. As an operator, you can look at the model and verify that everything is working correctly and you can approve it and schedule to push this config at any particular time.
So once it is approved the ATOM is going to auto-generate the commands for various devices whether it’s the Cisco or Arista or Juniper as you can see it’s going to show you the Cisco CLI that it is going to push to the devices. Now the devices start sending that telemetry data to the ATOM platform. And you can see the data in the Grafana dashboard. So here we collect various metrics like interface Utilization and CPU utilization, interface drops and things like that – the dashboard is highly customizable, you can build your own reports and have different alerts created out of it.
Latency Results
And because this customer is so particular about the latency, we have collected the latency within the ATOM platform. You can see that in 26 milliseconds we are able to take the network state like something happens on the network and that data will be stored in the database for applications to access within 25 milliseconds. That’s the kind of latency we are dealing with. The ATOM platform optimizes the overall end to end latency by using the latest software stack, and it works across multiple domains. So it’s a really short demo.
Anuta ATOM Delivers
The main takeaway is that the ATOM platform is able to meet the latency requirements and help the customer deliver very fast and responsive networks that are working across multiple vendors and that has a very fully redundant design using open standards.
Why Anuta ATOM?
So here is the final slide – as you can see, the ATOM scales to millions of devices using micro services-based architecture. It introduces closed-loop automation that delivers analytics, remediation, monitoring as well as orchestration for multi-vendor infrastructure. And it also can be deployed on-prem or in the public cloud like AWS and Azure.

You can check out the website Anuta Networks for more case studies as well as datasheets. Thank you.

Unlock 5G opportunities with Csmart platform
Tumblr media
Standalone 5G architecture for end-to-end 5G deployment
5G network architecture is more service-centric than traditional legacy networks. Service based architecture depends on cloud or virtual network functions which facilitates virtualization and network slicing. This makes decoupling of network functions possible and highly beneficial which further enhances system modularity. Such telco disruption is what makes 5G standalone architecture networks unique & profitable for telcos.
Csmart 5G standalone architecture
Our digital BSS platform- Csmart 5G suite is cloud & PaaS agnostic with microservices architecture which enables the service-centric 5G network architecture. With API-first approach, Csmart reduces complexity of operations, allows easy integration to external systems & 3rd party applications. With many such features, Csmart helps CSPs of any size deliver innovative 5G-IoT services that are both monetizable & profitable.
5G-capable dynamic digital BSS stack
Csmart is 5G-ready and TM-Forum ODA aligned platform, that can rapidly achieve concept to cash journey. It has a state-of-the-art order fulfillment system for pre-integration with 5G network elements. This dynamic digital BSS stack consists of containerized microservices with auto-scaling/de-scaling functionality.
Legacy BSS modernization for 5G monetization
Most CSPs operate on legacy BSS stack. For a telco of any size to offer & deliver various 5G services at consumer-friendly costs across demographics, a modern digital BSS is the first requirement to fulfill. After the launch of standalone 5G networks, a service provider/operator’s BSS needs to be 5G capable to match the 5G network functions.
5G network slicing & guarantee of quality for enterprise-customer services
5G networks offer network slicing as a basic capability, compared to 4G & 3G’s network slicing restrictions. 5G allows dedicated network slices, using which CSPs can create virtual data channels for single data type services. This not only allows co-creation of enterprise-customer services but guarantees quality of services for them as well. That’s why having a 5G-capable digital BSS lets CSPs leverage opportunities created by 5G technology across all types of B2B2X business models.
Covalensedigital has designed 5G Csmart suite with modular flexibility. Csmart digital BSS is cloud based with a powerful microservices architecture that can be decoupled. Only the module required by a CSP/telco can be offered which functions to deliver a specific service/s to a target customer segment. Not only would this allow for a 5G-enabled enterprise-customer service ecosystem to work but thrive. This makes Csmart - the fastest yet low-cost way to provide service differentiation and meet end-user SLAs. It also allows CSPs to try new revenue streams as part of 5G monetization.

Enhancing data and technology to better target consumers: With Paul Haliwell, COO at TwentyCi
In MarTalk Stack-tastic, we talk with marketers about their MarTech stack components, experiences, challenges and opportunities. Join us as they share what MarTech means to their business.
Delivering the right message to the right person at the right time will always be more important than anything else. Paul Haliwell, COO at TwentyCi shares solutions and insights on combining data with marketing technology to create better campaigns and achieve much higher results than client expectations. Paul holds an MBA from the University of Manchester. He is extremely motivated by high growth, shareholder value, and has an absolute focus on the customer and being a first-class employer.
Could you tell me a little about yourself and how you came to be COO at life event marketing firm TwentyCi?
I have spent the past twenty or so years working for fast-growing tech companies including telecoms firms such as TalkTalk which I launched as founding MD and telco Carrier1 which was the largest IPO of the European dot.com boom. What has appealed to me about all the companies I have worked for is that they are breaking the mould, having identified a better way of doing things. That’s what drew me to TwentyCi when I joined two years ago.
It is cutting edge and uses life event data in a way that no one else is – and it is creating great results for companies looking for a more effective way of targeting their marketing.
TwentyCi focuses on the major events in our lives that change our behavior as consumers for weeks/months - for example buying a house.
We build data sets and marketing programmes that enable brands to reach people with the right message at the right time as they move through these life events.
For example, the company has data on 99.6% of all home movers and so knows precisely what stage of the moving process each person is at. The critical time to communicate with a home mover will be different for a financial services company compared to a kitchen company or automotive firm.  **So our data, combined with the marketing technology to analyze and activate it, is enabling us to create campaigns that are achieving results much higher than client expectations in many cases.**
My role at TwentyCi is to organize the business so we can grow successfully.
Are you happy with the buy-in for Marketing Technology that exists at TwentyCi? Do you think the investments being made are adequate or could be more?
There are two streams to the martech we buy – industrial strength technology to power our clients’ advertising and more light-touch tools for our own sales and marketing purposes. For both, we are investing and developing at the right pace.
With the price of cloud-based machine learning tools coming down so much in the past couple of years, we have been investing more in this technology on behalf of our clients.
It is increasingly helping us to get to grips with huge data sets, optimize the analysis and targeting of clients’ target audiences, and deploy communications to them appropriately.
Unlike our clients whose campaigns can reach out to huge numbers of targeted individuals, our own marketing campaigns are targeted on a much smaller scale.  We are reaching out to board directors and senior marketers looking to create cut through with their marketing activity. We, therefore, use Hubspot as a simple, cost-effective tool for creating email campaigns, blog posts, landing pages and lightweight CRM.
What is the key problem you are attempting to solve with marketing technology implementation – could be 360 customer view, better customer experiences, crafting better journeys, full circle attribution?
One of the biggest challenges we need technology to solve lies in dealing with the UK’s largest life event data set which comprises billions of data points.  We have to be able to serve data to our clients so that they can reach consumers at exactly the right point in time relating to their live event. The difference of a couple of weeks or even a couple of days can have a huge impact on a campaign – too early and someone won’t have considered the need for a particular product; too late and they may have already bought it.
Closed loop attribution is also key. Life event trigger marketing is often a new element in a marketer’s armoury as it is still a relatively small (but growing) element in the marketing mix.
It’s therefore essential to be able to demonstrate ROI – both initially when clients are in test mode, and then on an ongoing basis once we’ve proven ourselves.  **We are therefore continually thinking about the best ways to link a consumer’s online and offline personas in order to fully understand their behavior across all channels and react optimally.** This is complex to do in many ways, not least because we have to adhere to the highest ethical and compliance standards to ensure a client’s marketing is not perceived as ‘creepy’ or intrusive.
So, it’s not just about having the technology, but knowing how to use it appropriately.
What are some of the challenges your team faces from a technology & integration perspective?
We work with many brands that use a variety of technologies, have totally different data sets etc., so every client’s integration is different.  We, therefore, have to work hard to develop standard data formats and APIs, and consistent ways to deliver data to clients so that we make it as easy as possible for people to make more use of our services.
What is your take on the massive explosion of MarTech companies across so many categories? Do you feel spoilt for choice or is it just more of a chore to evaluate additional options?
When it comes to what we offer our clients, as we are quite niche within their ecosystem, we are not bothered unduly by ‘me-too’ offerings in the marketplace.  However,
What is really exciting about the explosion in martech is that we are finding genuinely innovative and clever pieces of technology that enhance our data and technology to provide clients with an even better toolset to target consumers.
For instance, a location-based technology that recognizes where a consumer is geographically at any point in time (e.g. using beacons, Wi-Fi, and point of sale), offering huge potential for our clients, especially those in retail. A good example is when a new customer goes into a DIY store and can be identified through our data as someone in the midst of a house move.  This gives the retailer hugely powerful insight they can act on during the store visit and then ongoing – as this customer is likely to be worth hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds.
What is the one area of investment you'd like to make in the immediate future from a marketing tech perspective?
**We are going to continue investing in machine learning. It gives us the huge advantage of being able to build more predictive models at a faster rate than the hand-crafted models we built in the past.**
Build your own stack or buy into a pre-built martech cloud - what team are you on?
We are essentially on both teams as it depends on which route each client has taken - whether they are buying into one particular ecosystem or creating a stack. We are giving them the fuel to power their campaigns to their target audiences, irrespective of the way they work.
Technology is proving to be an incredible facilitator that is driving huge advancements in efficiency in particular.  However,
What is always going to be more important than the tech itself is how you use it and what you use it for. Delivering the right message to the right person at the right time will always be more important than anything else.

7 Million Heroes in 70 years
Tumblr media
The spring locks of my grandma's attache case stretched like a cat, when I ordered them to open. Toiled by years of hard work, they had lost their recoil and sounded a warning for opening a treasure chest which did not belong to me. Neatly, stacked in there were separate stacks of letters from her six sons of whom my dad's were the most distinguishable. They were the blue aerogram letters that I had grown up seeing at my dad's desk. I immediately recognized them. It is difficult to understand how could one fill those leaves of paper without with an autocorrect featured software and printer, but with only a pen and ink of emotions.
Dad moved to Saudi Arabia in 1966 as a young pediatrician from his government job in a remote town in South Punjab. Those were the days when the King's Landing (overwhelmed by the GOT Season 7) was being built by hundreds of my fellow country men in the fields of medicine, engineering and education. Another of my uncle went to build the Queen's Landing in UK and another one to the Green's Landing posted as an army captain in the East Pakistan (fills me with grief on the 70th Independence day for what we lost only after 24 years of independence). The stories of my uncles are for another day when I unpack their letters.
Grandma had a lot reading to do. The boys treasured a great bond with their mother. The letters were old and many. Schooled by a great mom, almost all the letters were written in beautiful handwriting with cut nib pens. They were stocked neatly with grace into packs covered in a plastic envelop binded with a rubber band. The rubber band lay there now melted on the envelope, like a dutiful soldier with a sprawled hands protecting an unaffectionate intrusion into his motherland.
With teary eyes when I opened the first of my dad's scriptures, a tale of how my Rome was built unravelled infront of me. The struggle of defending Pakistani identity in a foreign land was bigger than the struggle of winning economic freedom. Month over month the hard earned money helped my aunts get married and the younger uncles complete their education. Like my father, there are more than 7 million expatriate heroes of Pakistan who go through this struggle everyday.
Our heroes keep our green lights blinking. Every year they send almost $19Bln home to their families home through banking channels
Even with the quick options of account/wallet credits using IBFT from 1Link powered by TPSWorldWide, the cash over counter is still the most in-demand transfer option for cross border remittances. As per industry insights, atleast 50% of the home remittances in the country are collected in cash from the bank branches or from the exchange company locations. The Agent banking/mobile money network though reaching 300,000+ locations in the country have not been able to contribute as a cashout access point for the home remittances. The reason is the average transaction size of ~USD300 per transaction.
The liquidity availability at the agent of PKR 25,000 - 30,000 is a challenge considering the only way to source the agent till is the funds from selling the merchandise. Also the 0.7-1% commission expectation of the agent (possible in a domestic remittance of average transaction size of ~Pkr 4300) against the disbursement is not viable for the MFS service provider.
The human centric operations for remittance payouts have not been productive. ATMs can prove to be a simpler and cost effective answer. Considering the impact of ATMs in financial inclusion and increasing the reach of financial service points, regulator is in a process of introducing regulations to license White Label ATM Operators.
For remittance payouts through ATMs, the challenge is the KYC diligence of the beneficiary at the payout location. How can the beneficiary will be authenticated in the absence of a human agent. We have taken an attempt to crack the code with our #DigiCheQ service. (Read Just In Time remittances blog post ).
With our verified money transfer service built on GSMA's personal identity initiative Mobile Connect the beneficiary is able to withdraw funds from the ATM even without a formal bank account/wallet by authenticating herself from Teleco data (Read first blog in this series).
Tumblr media
Using the Azure cloud hosted service the connected financial institution/exchange house can validate the beneficiary identity with a mobile number. The beneficiary is flashed with a USSD/SMS permission message to share her name and Citizen ID from the telco data. The One time Passcode is issued by the overseas correspondent to the sender for onward transmission to beneficiary.
The DigiCheQ is created from the in-coutry correspondent in the beneficiary name sent on her mobile number. With the two factor of authentication, the beneficiary can withdraw funds from the ATM of the acquirer institution connected to the DigiCheQ network. This is done with the help of Mobile Connect APIs of the connected telecom operator.
Mobile Connect is live with 52 mobile operators in 29 countries reaching East & South Asia, APAC, Europe, MENA and Latam. With our early deployments live with China Mobile, other operators including Mobilink, Telenor adoption is in progress. DigiCheQ is now expanding to integrate the Mobile Connect APIs of global operators to enable Just In Time Remittances.
