So, this meme went around ages ago

Rules: List 5 quotes from various fics you love and link to the fics! Quotes can be short or long. Tag as many people as you want!

And in trying to participate, ya friend here (me, your friend is me) realized that I absolutely do not remember writings that way, despite loving banter to a very unhealthy degree. I remember scenes visually as being verbally tangy, which makes no fucking sense but eh, human brains.

However! I found the single exception to the rule, probably only retained because it's literally one word:

"Woof."

The story is Loosed Reigns by @aggressivewhenstartled and my bookmark for it just says "THIS IS THE WOOF ONE" which truly speaks volumes about my regard for it.

If the tags etc seem like your thing, do yourself a favor and read it. The characters are complex (INCLUDING Sally Donovan, be still my lady-loving heart), the case is icky-fun, there are some laugh-out-loud moments, the sex is brilliant, and it's just generally excellently fucking crafted.

Crowdsourcing a Fic Rec List: Stucky & Peter Parker

Well, look at that!

Due to the numerous responses to this post, and since things have become a little cluttered there (different reblog threads, some recs are in tags or in comments, etc), I thought it would be a shame if anything got lost. So, I decided to compile a list of all the submitted recs for Stucky fics that also feature Peter Parker. Of course, I couldn't help myself and added a rec of my own. Fics that were mentioned multiple times are only listed once, and, if one was provided, I kept the original commentary. I hope I credited everyone correctly. Basically, it's a HYDRA Peter AU, wherein Peter is an asset right along Bucky. Peter is like, 12 at the youngest, so it's mcu Peter, don't worry. Bucky drops Peter off a Steve's house, designation Steve as Peter's new Handler. You can see why this might be bad. I won't spoil much, but the Maximoff twins also come into play! (Bucky saves them)

🕸 Praetorian by RecoveringTheSatellites | 28K, M | part 1 of 2 in Amor Manet series Historical AU featuring Bucky as a pagan witch, Steve as a disgraced former Praetorian Guard, and Peter as a young recruit to the Roman army. Maybe a bit of a cheat, since Peter is not central to the story, but in the moments he does appear, he definitely makes an impression, and what we get to see of his mentor-mentee relationship with Steve really resonates. Fluffy Steve Fest Rec List: July 4: Birthday

Hello everyone! I am doing daily themed rec lists for @fluffystevefest. The fics are related (some more loosely than others) to the daily prompts. The number of fics for any given day and prompt varies, but I have at least one fic for each day. There's also a wide variety of fic types and ratings, so I hope there will be something for everyone.

The lists are vertically long, so I've put them behind a cut.

Rating: Teen Pairing: Stucky Summary: When she reached her eighties, Audrey though she was done with change. She thought things would continue as they always had. Instead, Steve and his friends have brought her more change than she'd gone through in the twenty years before. She gets used to one routine, and then a new one crops up. Or what happens when an elderly USO showgirl helps her super hero friend and his boyfriend. Comments: This is the third part of the Captain America Has a Fella series; I recommend reading the prior parts first. Steve isn't the one dancing here, but dancing does feature prominently.

Rating: Teen Pairing: Can be read as gen or as Stucky preslash Summary: Steve wakes up feeling so terrible that his first thought is that the serum somehow has worn off. His second thought, when he opens his eyes to see hard grey pavement, is that maybe he’s been sent back in time. He’d definitely spent a few nights next to trash cans in seedy alleys in the 30s, and stranger things than time travel had happened in his life so far. What was one more thing to add to the list? When he manages to wrench his head downwards enough to look at himself, though, he realises pretty quickly that he’s an idiot. And that he’s a cat. Summary: Steve wants to help Bucky. Thanks to magic, he gets that wish granted, just not in the way anyone would expect.

Rating: Explicit Pairing: Stony Summary: Sequel to 'All There in the Manual' for firelordstark: “[I]t would be interesting if roleplaying an android were an actual kink of his and not just his subconscious trying to construct a situation where Tony would be interested in him.” (What do you know? Freud was right.) Tony takes so well to Steve's suggestion he starts to wish he'd mentioned it sooner. It's easy to believe the rest of it – that he's the sex-toy android Tony built for when Steve's not around, built to please him, modded within an inch of his life to react to pressure sensors in all the right places – when Tony's even gone as far as to integrate a voice modification filter that fits like a gag but lets out every last sound, not quite in Steve's voice, but flattened a little with a tinny edge, just like he *would* sound if he *were* a robot sex toy. And that's not even all of it. One of these days, he's going to learn to never underestimate Tony Stark. Comments: Steve gets his sexy desires met in this fic. It is not necessary to read the prequel to understand what's going on. Do mind the tags.

Make It Till You Fake It by AggressiveWhenStartled

Rating: Explicit Pairing: Stucky Summary: “Ned,” Peter said, like a drowning man sighting land. “Ned. Captain America and the Winter Soldier are fake dating right now and it is the most painfully awkward and obvious thing I have ever seen, all of us want to die, Ned.” Comments: Funny and lighthearted. Somehow both borderline crack and also entirely in character and believable. It's not a birthday party, but there is a party featured.

Sherlock Fic Recs - October 2024

I have spent a fair bit of time perusing others' AO3 Sherlock bookmarks over the past couple of years and have found many earlier works which don't always make it onto newer rec lists. Here are five that I highly recommend.

First up, The James Holmes Chronicles, by pretty vk (the primary trilogy ranges from T to E to M and comprises almost 300k words; there are a few additional shorter pieces, most of which review certain events through other characters' POV). In a nutshell, Sherlock completes his mission and acquires a son. This is very adult fiction; pay attention to the tags. The son Sherlock acquires is Moriarty's 12-year-old who has been sexually and physically abused since age 9 by Sebastian Moran. The Sherlock here is familiar from S1 & S2, distant, slow to understand emotions, but caring in his own way. Eventual johnlock.

One of my go-to favorites is The Trivial Sublime by mildredandbobbin (E, 54k). Post-TRF, Sherlock must cope with John's being with Mary, which situation is fairly quickly resolved. As their relationship develops, Victor Trevor enters the scene, resulting in Sherlock making a horrible blunder at an intimate moment with John. All ends well.

Another post-TRF (do you detect a theme?) is This is Not a Love Song (Except that It Is), by yaycoffee (T, 20k), with a sequel, If These Walls Could Speak (M, 6k). John is involved with Mary (who is not an assassin and is not awful), but is thrilled when Sherlock returns. At first Sherlock vies with Mary for John's attention, until he realizes he is hurting him. Lots of angst for Sherlock and John. Happy ending.

Touch by aggressivewhenstartled (T, 1.8k). Both John and Sherlock are having a bad day. My favorite line: Sherlock had been a ball of snapping, squirming eels the entire afternoon. They work it out.

Post-TAB, settling of the dust by thosewhowant (E, 12k) is a lovely, angsty johnlock. They get together but John abruptly leaves and doesn't immediately return. Sherlock fights his addiction and learns to cope. Happy ending.

Summary: “I just had the best idea I have ever had in my life,” Bucky said, punching straight through a doombot with his metal hand and clutching the napkin with Steve’s phone number in the other. The formerly (somewhat) dark and peaceful corner of Central Park was now lit up with energy beams, flashing robotic lights, and panicked astronomy buffs running for cover. Oh well, it wasn't like they'd been going to see many stars what with all the Christmas shit everywhere. “The bar you are setting for that is not high,” Natasha told him over the coms.

Oh my god, this is so good. I love how Bucky and Steve are equally intense and stupid about each other. The schemes, the suspicion, the way Bucky thinks fooling Steve when Steve isn’t fooled at all... it’s well-paced, unhinged, and absolutely hilarious.

Plus, he has a crush on the hot cyborg in unit 404 who cooks fiendishly good breakfast foods, and may or may not have some kind of weird connection to the sentient building they live in. He's not sure. He's dealing, all right, his life is in tip-top condition, or it was until an eldritch monstrosity called the Hydra started posing as a real estate company to try and buy over his new home. He's really pissed about that. (The one where Steve is an angry millennial wizard, Sam is a Disney prince, Natasha is a shapeshifter, and Bucky is a spoiler.) It cost them three wishes but it bought them an Asset with power greater than any human and for 70 years they used him to work HYDRA's will on the world. Until they lost him. His bottle washes up on a beach and he's found by a new Master, Steve Rogers. Steve, horrified at having absolute power over someone, has a very different approach to being in control of a genie. While Bucky waits for his new Master to show his true colours they're trying to work out how to live with each other. Bucky doesn't trust Steve, Steve's friends don't trust Bucky, and no one realises HYDRA has not let their Asset go so easily.
