to ajmal: do you ever get tired of being all polite-and-proper to your monarch? they're not made of glass, you know, they won't break if you touch them!
Ajmal flushes and splutters, somewhere between embarrased and irritated.
“What?! What are you implying? That I should be disrespectful and inappropriate toward my Monarch? Absolutely not! Their fortitude has nothing to do with it, they deserve my respect and propriety.”

My The Eight Years Revolution MC
Safiya
She is curious and optimistic and devastatingly in love with her bodyguard/ childhood friend.
Loves: Painting, dancing, asking literally every question that comes into her head, Ajmal.
Hates: Awkward silences, being alone, not getting her way.

Play The Eight Years Revolution for: a world with amazing depth, excellent dialogue and one of the most compelling romances I have read in an IF.

ummmmmm i haven't been g8ming a lot recently but here's a (non-exhaustive) bunch of games that i think are neat <3
completed:
our life: beginnings and always (a slice of life visual novel, focusing on the relationship between the player character and a boy named cove holden. available on pc, mac, and android <3. although cove is advertised as a love interest you can be friends with him or just. not care about him throughout your life hfgjdkfghdkjfgh <3 also the amount of customisation is absolutely. Insane <3 there are a bunch of dlcs you can buy but it's not really necessary i feel. personally. depends on what you think obviously <3)
morgan and alex's dark home dinner (an in-browser text horror game about a contaminated home and a contaminated relationship. god this one is good. hand in unlovable hand et cetera <3. content warnings are in the game and also i recommend downloading the maps available since it'll help with getting through the game <3)
all of rusty lake's games. except for the paid ones i haven't played those <3 (rusty lake makes horror surrealist escape room games which are very fun i think <3 content warnings for a bunch of their games here i can't remember any more sorry orz <= me kneeling down in shame. there's probably Lore but i'm not very smart so i just solve the puzzles yayyy puzzles <3. all of the games should have walkthroughs on their pages <3 also side note i went on the rusty lake website for the first time in a while and saw an nft post and nearly had a heart attack. it was a joak fortunately <3)
demo available:
spirit swap: lofi beats to match-3 to (a combination visual novel and match-3 game about samar, a young witch working the spirit-swapping night shift in the eastern outskirts of demashq. the demo currently only has the match-3 part (Um. last time i checked. it's been a While <3) but it's fun i think <3 i'm easily distracted by shiny things can you tell <3)
in progress:
the eight years revolution (currently up to part of chapter 2, a fantasy story about a monarch fleeing from their home-country due to. The Eight Years Revolution that follows. <3. it's very cool so far and i'm excited for what comes next <3 also ajmal mansoor my beloved <3. also also there's a kitty in chapter 2 if you chose to learn guile in chapter 1 i think it's neat <3)
zorlok (currently goes up to the end of the prologue, a dark comedy urban fantasy twine where you play as an amnesiac demon bound to a nerdy teenager. tommy is my son boy :] also the customisation options in this are really cool and it's so cool how the characters react to how you look <3. you can have a capybara in this <3)
#letters#sashlaxolotl#hiii surya <3#also butterfly soup but if you follow me and haven't played butterfly soup what are you even waiting for go play it free on itch.io <3#WOW I PLAY A LOT OF INTERACTIVE FICTION HUH........#anyways. these aren't all the games i play. there are probably more i'm forgetting.#i also play some mobile gacha games but i'm. not going to endorse those <3#i have quite a few mcs for a bunch of ifs. i should draw them some time. Excuse me, I was answering the poll and saw "reluctant romance" with Felice. You can do that? 👀 I will have to play again. I wanted to make my Ajmal mancer be a little infatuated with Felice due to their charisma, but I don't want Ajmal to suffer 😫 (but the angst calls me...)
Hi!
So what I call reluctant romance are the romantic choices that are generally more reserved towards Felice. Basically it's when MC is attracted to Felice but knows they really shouldn't.
I'm thinking specifically about that choice, after the flashback, when you decide how the MC feels about Felice.
Romancing Ajmal while having a crush on Felice is certainly going to be an interesting path to take, I can tell you that!

Hi! I just found your game!! Wanted to ask what the general vibes of the relationships will be? The tropes or general flavor.... <3
Hi! I hope you’re enjoying the game so far!
I’m not very good with tropes, so I’ll try to give you a general vibe.
There’s definitely a power imbalance that might need to be addressed with all the ROs except for Berhane. Some are more sensitive to it than others.
Ajmal: It starts a little angsty. He’s very attached to his duty and is also very aware of the difference in status. Otherwise he’s very sweet and devoted and once the first hurdles are out if the way, that side of him will take over.
Zanetta: You can expect some subtle resistance at first. She knows that falling for the MC is not ideal. But you can expect her to deal with the complications of their relationship in a mature and healthy way, with a lot of communication. She’s very supportive in a relationship.
Felice: There’ll be quite a bit of angst in their route. They’re secretive and when the truth will come out, there might be some conflict. They also are the most distrustful of the RO so the building of the relationship will be slow and bumpy. But once their trust is won, they’re very loyal.
Armine: The chillest route lol. She’s straightforward, she knows what she wants, which makes the relationship pretty uncomplicated. Expects lits of hijinks, light-hearted scenes and MC learning to let loose with her.
Berhane: The war in Sarnah means that the relationship with them is very rocky to start with. I’d say it’s close to the enemies to lover trope. But once the tension eases, they address any issues straightforwardly and set up expectations and boundaries in a mature way, similar to Zanetta. They’re supportive as well, but with a firmer hand.

oh!! What about (collar) and/or (hands) with sir Ajmal, please? 🥺
Hiii thank you for sending these! For the record, I might switch roles around, depending on what inspires me with each prompt.
[HANDS] - sender takes receiver’s hands.
While the others fan out, making sure you have not been followed and you are indeed safe, you find yourself alone with Ajmal after what seems like ages. You stare down at the cobblestones, only stealing occasional glances his way. He is pacing, agitated — more than usual. He looks around, paranoid, jumping at every sound. You take a small step toward him and the sound of your shoe echoing on stone makes him jolt. You wince, looking back down at the floor. You feel guilty. You should have been more careful, you should not be so trusting, gullible, stupid… You close your eyes, keeping your lids tightly shut as you fustigate yourself. The cool and damp atmosphere seeps into your clothes, your skin, your bones. You shiver and wrap your arms around yourself.
And then you feel a little warmer. You open your eyes to find Ajmal closer to you, his warmth radiating and enveloping you. Your gaze falls on his hands. They are jittery, almost shaking. Glancing up, you find his water-green eyes still taking in your surroundings, but sometimes, a concerned look lands softly on you, making your skin prickle.
You do not know what to do, what to say, and your eyes keep finding his quivering fingers.
Ajmal is the first to speak, his voice so broken you feel your own heart shatter.
“I am so… so sorry. I should have been there, I should have done better, I should…”
Almost by reflex, your hand takes his and he gasps, cutting his sentence short. You feel his hand tremble in yours and you brush his knuckles with your thumb to soothe him. Looking up, you meet his eyes, tears trapped between his lashes.
“It is not your fault,” you murmur. “I have been reckless, it is not on you.”
His fingers wind themself tightly around yours and he squeezes. The pressure is intense, almost painful but not quite. He takes another step closer to you, his other hand reaching up to your face, cupping your cheek.
“It is just that… the thought of losing you…”
You close the distance and nestle your face in the crook of his neck and his hand moves to the back of your head, keeping you close. You shut your eyes and focus on the feeling of his lips on top of your forehead and his hand holding desperately onto yours.
“You did not lose me. I am okay, I am safe.”

Hi there!:)
I'm curious as to what superstitions, myths and legends there are, if any of the ROs are superstitious about certain things?
Hi! Thank you for the ask!
I have some sparse notes on religion, so let me pull those out lol.
People from Ahabalad have a polytheist religion with a few gods representing forces of nature. The neighboring countries (like Sarnah) have similar religions but with some variations in their names and legends. They've been influencing each other's beliefs over the centuries/millenia.
In Ahabalad, the divinity that is worshipped the most is Hadia, the Rain Daughter. There are many legends surrounding the Gods and their relationship with mortals. One of them says that the hero Hayat has killed Nergyl, the Son of Flames, millenia ago, putting an end to a time of violent seismic and volcanic activity.
In Teledrica, the religion and beliefs are pretty different. The Dwarves don't believe in gods, but in saints, a lot of them actual historical figures ascended to divinity. Each of them represent a virtue and a sin and govern a particular hell. There are... many of them lol.
There are a lot of statues of different saints throughout Lagodoro and a lot of the superstitions revolve around them. Sometimes you have to touch a saint's bum for good luck, sometimes you have to give them an offering, and sometimes you have to avoid them altogether.
As for the ROs, I'll answer under a read more because this is getting a little long lol.
Ajmal isn't very superstitious. He is religious and pays dutiful respects to the gods when appropriate, but it's not a huge part of his life either.
Zanetta isn't very religious and not very superstitious either. She's too practical-minded for that I think. She swears a lot, though.
Felice is a different story. Maybe they wouldn't be superstitious if they had an easier life. But at this point, they'll try anything to help them survive. If patting some saint's foot is said to bring luck, they'll do it. Why not? They've got nothing to lose. They'll take to any superstition from any culture, they're not picky. Their beliefs tend to mix the glimpses of memories they have of their own culture and the Dwarven beliefs.
Armine is not very religious and not entirely superstitious but she perpetuates some rituals more out of tradition and habit than actual belief. It reminds her of her roots and her family when she feels lonely.
Berhane is a person of science before anything else. They don't believe much in religion and less so in superstitions.

[SIT] for Ajmal because he needs to take a damn break! 💕
Thank you for the prompt! <3 And yes, he really does lol.
• [SIT] - sender guides receiver to sit down on a chair / bed / wall / etc.
When you entered the room again, canvas and supplies under your arm, you found Ajmal standing near one of the arches, looking out, instead of sitting on the armchair, as you instructed. He was stiff and agitated, his fingers tapping nervously against his thigh.
“Ajmal,” you sighed and he turned his head to look at you, offering a tight smile. “Sorry, I had to get up and stretch my legs.” “We have not even started,” you pointed out, one eyebrow raised, while you were setting up your easel.
While you rested your canvas against it and adjusted the height of it, the knight turned away from the window and walked back toward the chair. He did not sit, though. Instead, he started pacing the whole width of the room, inspecting its every corner to avoid looking in your direction.
Once you set down your charcoals, you sighed again and walked up to him, taking his hand to get his attention. And it was a very efficient way to do so. You felt the twitch in his hand when he whipped his head around to look at you.
“You need to sit down,” you said gently, pulling on his arm to guide him to the armchair. “Alright, sorry,” he mumbled back to you, his eyes shifting away and his face turning darker.
He followed you and obediently sat down when you pushed down on his shoulders. You took some time to drape his waistcoat nicely on the chair and cupped his jaw to direct his face the desired way. Which did not fail to bring more color to his cheeks.
“If you could sit still, I would appreciate it greatly,” you told him with a mildly scolding tone.
You went to your own seat and started sketching Ajmal’s silhouette with a piece of charcoal. You quickly noticed the way the knight’s knee kept jumping up and down. You knew he always had a hard time with “sitting still”, but you also knew he could relax from time to time and that his agitation was accentuated with stress. Something about posing for you was distressing to him.
You put down your charcoal, stood up, and walked up to him, sitting on the arm of his chair.
“Ajmal… What is wrong?” You asked softly, frowning down at him.
He shifted uneasily, lifting himself up and sitting back down.
“I…Huh… Nothing is wrong?” “You seem uncomfortable,” you explained. “We do not have to do this if you do not like it.” “Oh, it is not that at all!” The knight was eager to reassure you. “I just… I have no idea how to do this. I am not a model. Surely I am not doing this right…” You tilted your head to the side. “There is not that much to it. You just have to move as little as you can. I know it can be tiring after a while, so I thought having you sit on a chair would be easier for a first time.” Ajmal frowned. “You plan on doing this again?” “If you would be alright with that.”
He gaped at you, apparently baffled that you would want to paint him not only once but on several occasions.
“But… Why?”
That was the question, was it not? You could tell him it was because you found him incredibly handsome, but you were not quite ready for that.
“Why not?” You shot back with a shrug. “There are people who… People whose job is to do this. I am certain they would offer a much more adequate pose for you to depict.” “Ajmal… I am not looking for a specific pose to depict, I want to paint you.” “But why?” He asked again. “Because you are my friend and I care about you and that is the way I want to express that.” “Oh.”
The knight looked down sheepishly, twisting his hands together.
“I am sorry, I should not have… I mean thank you. I am truly flattered.” “Alright, now that is settled, let us get started, shall we?” You said with a gentle smile, trying to lift his mood.
The smile he returned was so full of warmth that you nearly fell from the armrest.
“Alright,” he murmured.
You squeezed his shoulder reassuringly and returned to your seat.
