Cottoercus, the wooden rabbit pokemon. The evolved form of Stumper, the grass/electric type Cottoercus have developed a strong sense of right and wrong. Now adamant about protecting the weak, though still not physically sturdy they put their speed to good use as they protect those that need it. The yellow fur that lines their head and spine is said to have high amounts of static electricity, often resulting in those that pet them receiving a nasty shock.

Pelican Press Borders

The Pelican Press, founded in 1916 by British printer and activist Francis Meynell (1891-1975) -- who also founded the more well-known Nonesuch Press in 1922, used a wide range of typographic ornaments and borders. The press published this specimen book, Typography: Type Specimens . . . of the Pelican Press in London in the 1920s for the benefit of their customers "to assist the amateur to a right appreciation of type-forms." Furthermore,

. . . it shows what can be commanded into his service by any buyer of printing; and it attempts to demonstrate what a commercial press can do to enrich the craft by ransacking the treasure houses of the past and breathing into old bodies the living spirit of our day.

Typography Tuesday

This week we focus on the cursive flourishes from Flowers & Flourishes by the noted British book designer John Ryder (1917-2001), published in London by The Bodley Head for Mackays of Chatham and printed at Mackays in 1976. The book displays all the decorative flowers, ornaments, rules, and typefaces held at the printing house of Mackays, prepared to mark the centenary of their foundation in 1875. Since 1999, Mackays has been part of the CPI Group of printers.

The ornaments shown here were designed for production at several American and European type foundries, including American Type Founders (ATF), Bauer Type Foundry, and Amsterdam Type Foundry.

The type display pages were designed by the eminent wood engraver and illustrator Yvonne Skargon (1931-2010).

how it feels to always disappoint everyone around you no matter what you do

Introducing to you - made over the course of a few months - a visual guide to cybertronian pedipalps and proboscis!

The general gist and inspiration for such being of course the episode Thirst and the fact that, up until that point, dark energon did not have any mutagenic properties only (in the show) being utilitised to revive the dead. What if, instead of being a side effect of dark synth energon, dark energon just... reactivated dormant pedipalps (remnants of a more buggy pre-metamorphosis sparkling/protoform lifestage)?

A more comprehensive look is down below- and don't mind how it's exclusively 'Cons lmao :P

Starting off, I referenced CYLAS' canonical pedipalps to try and understand the shapes being used which resembles a lapping type mouth that bees have (so considering there is a tranformers character named Bumblebee it feels appropriate but he ISN'T HERE), let alone the flexible proboscis which I just made as a siphoning type from butterflies which; this is the wikipedia image I used to understand mouth parts :P

Breakdown himself wouldn't need to open his whole face in order to consume energon, given that he has an opening and closing jaw in addition to having the dexterity and power of limbs and a neck to not require lapping, but energon is still drunk through the proboscis like a straw.

Continuing onto characters that would NEED their pedipalps, vehicons and other faceless cold constructs (whether you have the belief every cold construct is faceless or they recently shifted to facelessness to save on costs) by technically did not metamorphose like forged mecha and thus their mouth parts have not gone dormant. Instead, their construction means they have not known anything other than pedipalps and proboscis, having no experience at all with facial expressions and thus not susceptible to phantom sensations.

Though their jaws do not have joints or at least do not have an opening to function like an enclosed mouth, vehicons still do have one on the basis of having a neck and a location to store their coiled proboscis when not in use.

Unlike other cybertronians - forged or constructed - empurata survivors have their heads and/or faces completely remolded and restructured where they do not have a functioning jaw. They have in it's stead a reconstruction of the original pedipalps formatted appropriately to the new head mould.

Monoptics like Shockwave do not have enough room in their helms to have a mouth-like structure at all, instead the neck is reconstructed to open with the pedipalps; the proboscis when fully extended appears longer in monoptics but that is due to the fact the opening is lower and closer to it's base. Nulloptics like Soundwave have their entire face replaced by their mouth, often covered up in seamless panels that give the appearance of a screen, up until the nulloptic actually replaces the panels to include the electronics necessary to protect and display visuals.

In average adult cybertronians however, the pedipalps remain dormant - at least in their use for eating - and are instead used to produce vocalisations alongside the proboscis (which still remains in use by function of the liquid energon diet), in addition to being used in expression in conjuction with the many servos operating within the faceplate. The reason why, despite the variety of things pedipalps can do now that they aren't being used to consume fuel, that empuratas and constructs cannot re/gain a face with the same ability and level of complexity of the average cybertronian is because of the hyperactive function of those very pedipalps.

Vehicons can - if they so choose - express visually through the exclusive use of their pedipalps, but factoring in a faceplate with all of it's own complicated servos intricately woven into each other, the faceplate lacks the ability to split along the seams of the pedipalps and would restrain their mobility and prevent the cold construct from refueling. Empurata have a similar issue with the addition of their lack of functioning jaws and their modified head structure preventing the synergy of a faceplate. Nulloptics' heads are functionally all mouth so the corresponding faceplate cannot have features for optics or ridges, and monoptics' pedipalp expression is on their neck and thus a faceplate that matches where the mouth in their case would be a very bizarre choker-

Thinking about the whole...

"Midoriya is actually the possessive, jealous one!"

"Actually, it's Bakugou."

Frankly, in my very humble opinion (I mean like very humble), they're both possessive and/or jealous. Just in different ways, sort of.

Like, Midoriya is the type that is protective to where it is possessive. People can talk and fawn over Bakugou all day, he is not batting a lash. Bakugou having other friends? Midoriya is not bothered (like, come on).

But hurt Bakugou? It's on a "you hurt the person I care about" way. That's his trigger (*points to canon*). He gets violent, but towards those who have hurt Bakugou.

Bakugou though? He's the possessive-possessive. Like, "I revolve around you and you revolve around me" kind of possessive. He will (and has) eavesdrop on conversations Midoriya has with other people. Wants to be rivals for the rest of their lives and invest most into making Midoriya's hero suit. Freely declared himself Kacchan Bakugo.

(Fitting that he does in one of his heroic moments. Reminds me of Midoriya chose to go with Deku for his hero name. And before anyone goes "Well, Uraraka---" Let's remember who gave Midoriya that nickname and he could have easily chose a different name even after her suggesting it. If anything, that's like an unintentional shipper on deck moment.)

Some of his thoughts be about Midoriya. (I said some because you cannot tell me he doesn't think about, like different hot sauces or something.)

You know what, I would say they're both the kinds of possessive, but each lean towards the other kind just a little more. And maybe it even alternates!

I just don't think only one of them is possessive.

And I don't think either one is more possessive than the other.

I think, again just my humble opinion, that Midoriya and Bakugou aren't ones to be possessive all the time and have a limit to how possessive they'll go.

(Thinking about the nicknames again. Neither verbally expressed dislike towards anyone else using the nicknames.)

They're definitely going to think and feel however for the other because they've always been in each other's lives. However, it's not to the point that they're incapable of giving each other breathing room and they're able to live as their individual. Of course, they're attached to the hip but not stitched together.

I think most, if not all, big ships in this series were sabotaged by the fandom - either by misinterpreting the characters in the ships or artificially inflating/deflating their importance to the story)

i'm sorry it'll always kill me that kyle spent like 100 issues being like ‘my mother is irish, and i never exactly knew my father, but i always heard he was scots irish’ only to look and act like that is so cosmically funny. the most beautiful geeky mixed boy hanging around the most mixed race era of superheroes being like ‘that's what it's like being irish :/’ and then genuinely being gagged when he finds his father is a brown man must have led to all kinds of reactions from his friends. genuinely greatest missed opportunity in comics is an issue where he one by one tells everyone about meeting his dad and hearing everyone react. do you think the titans took bets.

The cast of Blades of Light and Shadow and their Perfect Match types

Ever since I did my Blades/Elementalists attunement crossover to mark the anniversary of the Blades series, I’ve known I wanted to do something like this to mark the wide release of book three, and I love me some Perfect Match and the types system, so what better way than by incorporating that into a piece?

So the match types you see here are based on what we’ve seen of these characters up to book two, so any character evolution they may undergo in book three is not accounted for. You might also notice that, when deciding each character’s type, I went off of the core four traits instead of the match name or description, unless I needed a tiebreaker.

Finally, MC’s type is pretty subjective, as I’m sure everyone has a different idea of what their MCs are like, so for the sake of this edit set, Raine’s type is based on which traits she displays most in canon.
