okay but like, as much as I am a fervent proponent of “not every ship should get married and in fact some of them would Never” - especially in context of enemies-to-lovers - I hope that everyone who sees me posting like that knows I am not talking about Spuffy. in fact, I would go so far as to say they are the two characters most willing and even desperate to get married that I’ve ever seen.

one of Buffy’s most persistent struggles is her right to girlhood and the inevitable expiration date she faces as the Slayer. she’s forced to fight and claw for every possible milestone that other girls around her take for granted - trying out for the cheer squad, running for prom queen, going to college, etc. one of the nightmares she has after killing Angel is about being unable to be a bride and get married. in Something Blue, she throws herself into wedding planning with a passion that speaks to her having daydreamed about it. in most cases, her commitment issues veer toward clinging rather than avoidance, and marriage is absolutely one of those beautiful, unreachable things that were ripped away from her when the Powers chose her. it haunts her.

Spike is probably even more obvious - he’s a man from Victorian England, a society that held marriage on a pedestal. furthermore, he is fundamentally a creature of devotion, never straying from Drusilla for over a century, and then from Buffy even after she was dead. their desperation is also quite similar - Spike’s original community had considered him undesirable, barring him from a love match; and while a union may have been arranged for him as a human, his vampirism took that option away entirely, in the same way that Buffy’s becoming did it. during Something Blue, he is just as committed to planning the minutiae of the wedding as Buffy is, even though they could’ve just decided to do it at the courthouse and get it over with under a shoehorned pretext. he’s been dreaming of a wedding for 150 years, let’s be real

Spuffy would’ve gone insane about a wedding. they would’ve fallen in love worse. they would have threatened each other with divorce constantly but stayed married anyway for however long they lived. hell, they should’ve done it just for the CPS reasons in season 6, just imagine having to hide it from everyone except the government, lest Anya thinks they’re trying to steal her thunder

Riley is one of the few characters in btvs who is not at all Buffy. He is not a shadow, reflection, or a part making up the whole.

The character he does thematically reflect is Adam (which is literally the only thing about his character that has ever compelled me). And I think seeing how similar he is to Adam made Riley even more desperate to be like Buffy. But the very reason why he could never be a shadow/reflection/a part of Buffy is because he doesn’t want to share and help carry Buffy’s burdens (at least not unless it was on his terms), he just wants to be the hero. He wants to replace Buffy(‘s role).

I will say this, Riley, Adam, and the first slayer were all created unnaturally and are viewed as abominations by both mortals and demons alike but the difference is that the slayers as a whole and as individuals actually learn how to reconcile these two seemingly opposing sides of themselves while Adam never understood humanity and Riley could never understand demons

While I do get why some people would use this as evidence to say that Riley is a part of Buffy, having a similarity to Buffy does not a Buffy archetype make. Because Buffy could never not understand both humanity and inhumanity. She was never given that chance. She desperately fought against this, but we see in season 6 that her demons are as much a part of who she is as is her humanity.

For Buffy it’s about who she is, while for Riley and Adam, it’s about what they are

in my dream last night I was in a class where we had to write a paragraph analysing a single line of dialogue in film/tv that’s word choices represented a larger narrative theme and for some reason I decided to write mine about kendra saying to buffy “not the only freak”. and how the use of the modifier “only” served to emphasise and remind the viewers of the narrative that buffy is supposed to be the only girl in the world who has been chosen to fight this war, she alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. and how kendra’s correction that buffy is no longer alone in this fight is the foundation of the rest of the series’ exploration of buffy as the single chosen one, culminating in every potential becoming a slayer in the series finale. kendra being the first exception to the prophecy and using this to comfort buffy, to reassure her that it the fate of the world doesn’t have to be carried by her alone, is the start of a message that is so important to a show about a girl grappling with what her destiny is when it’s already been decided for her, and maybe it shouldn’t have to all be on her shoulders <33

My totally normal and not hyperfixating self decided to do something different for my next animatic [It technically counts as a PMV but the rough draft is an animatic lmao]. I've never been this meticulous with making doodles so it's gonna be a looong ride/silly

Genuinely don't know where to put them all once I'm done but it's gonna be a fun thing to have around.

At least 20 pure vanillas are gonna be snuch in my house all curled up in a pile of assets and backgrounds, speaking of...those are made traditionally too!! Here are the ones I've finished

These are made with watercolours and colored pencils, only seven of these are gonna be made in this way for my sake. The rest are all digital (since they're just not as detailed)
