Neil would like The Neighbourhood. Like if they were a thing, during/after the series (I think the band started in 2011..?) But Neil is so The Neighbourhood coded to me.

I just feel like he would listen to them for the beats and vibes, and everyone *else* would hear the lyrics and go "oh Neil :/" but he doesn't even listen to the words he's singing along to KSBFJSBFIDJFJF

I was driving and listening to them and they're so Neil!!! And then I realized that they wouldn't really canonically intersect???

But I just like to imagine that, if there was a world where The Neighbourhood and Neil Josten existed at the same time, he would be blasting that shit in the fancy car on road trips.

Todd doesn’t talk much in the beginning but I think one random night Todd would go on a sudden 35 minute rant while doing Latin homework about how poetic it is that the Latin word for love is amor cause it sounds like armor, and love makes you feel safe, and Neil would sit there and listen, occasionally adding in comments if it seems like Todd is winding down to get him started up again, and after that Neil tries to get Todd to go on rants whenever he can so he can just sit and listen to Todd go on, sometimes it works and sometimes, especially when they are out and Todd feels anxious, it doesn’t, but every time he does talk on for long bouts of time, Neil just thinks ‘love makes you feel safe’

It's a queer 1953 novel with everything one needs (hospitalized soldiers, male nurses, pretentious and/or mentally unstable queer friends, poetry books, windy countryside, sailors).

I would make fanart of it if I had free time. Hopefully someday I will.

Anyway, go read the the book, its's 100% worth it.

honestly, I feel like Dave McKean's work elevated Neil Gaiman way more than the other way around and we don't distribute credit for that properly. I truly don't think--and, critically, never have thought--the early Sandman writing was so good that it would have gotten far without the heavy hitting art lending it such an air of respectability. McKean's work is so visually distinct still, let alone 20 years ago, let alone 30. the thought of cracking the spine of a book makes kevin nauseous. he like opens it just enough to see the words and holds the book at such uncomfortable angles to read— anything to keep the book pristine and intact. he does not let people borrow his books because he is a control freak (as a term of endearment) and does not trust them to take care of them the way he does.

and andrew is the complete opposite, cracking the spine as soon as he opens it. he annotates in pen. he dog ears the pages because who the fuck has time to find a bookmark. he throws books out of anger. he throws them at aaron for fun. he lets them get smashed and torn in his bag. he always keeps them, he just prefers them to look like they’ve been read.
