i actually do have a big issue with the epic fandom right now. specifically looking at sharpwolf shippers. i try not to care too much about the ship but i've decided that it genuinely is that deep to me. a male rapist (even if he died before that happened, he NEVER hid that that was his intention) being turned into a gay dark romance dominant king icon is not okay with me. it disgusts me beyond words. even if you claim to only ship the odyssey versions of them, it still upsets me.

everyone changes everything about telemachus' character just to make it happen. so many shippers reduce this into some weird ass domsub dynamic when telemachus' entire character is about becoming a man, being more than just a boy who can't protect his own mother from the suitors. the suitors disrespect him, his mom, his home for years and he hated that he couldn't do anything about it. not every fandom needs a sub uwu boy x mean dom manly man ship. i don't go out of my way to comment hate under sharpwolf posts but i must absolutely ask that sharpwolf shippers don't interact with me. i don't want to see that shit, i don't want to hear about it, nothing.

basically they believe fiction = reality on a 1:1 scale and everything you make is a reflection of your morals, which is detrimental to fandom spaces in general. if someone consumes taboo art and it's a bad person, it's because they're bad, not because of the art, especially when they're labelled accordingly.

purity culture is also the reason why ao3 is banned in china btw. what's funny is that most antis/puritans are liberals but they advocate for censorship which is a very leftist thing.

you are allowed to hate stuff and curate your own fandom experience, but when you label people as awful things just because of their strictly fictional taste then you're weird as fuck. i've seen people death threatening others (cough cough, sharpwolf shippers for example) over fictional media, when real-life problems are being ignored.
